• 0:00
[upbeat music] Good, good, good hello.
• 0:18
[laughs] Wow. It's Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 80. Number 80. Star 80. Oh, is Elizabeth Berkley on that? Ugh, I thought it was Dorothy Stratten in the story. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 0:32
The, the other one is in- Is my bike okay? Stratton's in s- Or something... the door's locked, yeah. Oh, well, then we're good. Thanks. But if you're concerned about it, you should've taken care of it before the show.
• 0:43
I would've if you- It came out around the time of like- I would've if you had my number... My Tutor and those formative '80s [growls] movies. Okay. Dove Taylor, uh. Right. Were there any bikes in that movie?
• 0:56
Uh, had to be. I know 'em. That's why, that's the linchpin, I tell you. How was everybody's week? Oh, yeah, by the way, JK's right here and Tony's right over there. [laughs] Hey. Oh, yeah, in case any- JK, you know.
• 1:10
You know the drill. Right? You can go hopefully. Yeah, probably, but- Uh, I, I, I rode- The lineup is in the show notes... [laughs] I rode an electric fat bike with a dude. It was pretty fun.
• 1:21
Yeah, it was a pretty good day. Yeah. Well, it was- Rolling around... weather was not as- Testing... it should've been until we got to the last stop, and then it just torrential downpoured.
• 1:29
[laughs] It's like, come on, really? Yeah. I met you guys up at the end of yours- Yeah... and the beginning of mine. I was down- And that was pretty funny.
• 1:39
[laughs] I was like, okay, well, yeah, different timelines here, but- Yeah, yeah. Well, I wanted to get the rain pictures so we could get rid of those fenders, but- Yeah, but it didn't happen...
• 1:48
it didn't happen 'cause- They did work well [laughs] for the ride home- It's nice-... in the, in the pouring rain... this is fender time of year. Well, you did a little spinny spinny on your E-spinny. What do you mean?
• 1:59
On the way back from, on Sunday. Like what, a burnout? Down the hill. Yeah, yeah. Oh. There was a little confusion in the, uh, yeah. Yeah? Oh. [laughs] It was pretty funny. It got, it got back here somehow. Oh, yeah.
• 2:13
Oh, for sure. [laughs] There was a dance there. [laughs] It's like, like, just go straight up fucking Humble. Yeah, yeah, right up. That's what I did. I can do it. I mean, with- well, I wouldn't.
• 2:23
[laughs] I did it straight up Humble Hill, and that was- But there was like a little-... that makes that bike really, really appreciate it...
• 2:26
there was a little stop, install, the, you know, there was a little traffic in there- Uh-huh... being kinda traffic-y. So there was a little uh-huh. [laughs] Trust me. All righty. I just crossed my legs.
• 2:39
[laughs] Right on, right on. Yeah, yeah. Kind of, uh, kind of dreary lately. I'm- Yeah... blue. I'm not- Chilly... I'm not super ambitious- Yeah... right now. Yeah, yeah.
• 2:53
I'm getting my head around this gotta wear gloves, gotta do couple layers- Yeah. Been-... type thing... not real pleased about that myself. Not pleased. But- I just wanna get- Yeah...
• 3:05
be comfy when I'm doing what the hell I'm gonna do, otherwise I'm gonna be a damn curmudgeon. Yeah. Curmudgeon. Uh. You got fenders on your bike now? Uh, n- uh, kind of. Fenders, sort of. In a way.
• 3:18
[laughs] They're- Is it-... kinda piecemealed around between two bikes, so none of it is- There's a big pile of muddy ones over there just to... [laughs] You can- No, I'm i- I'm dancing around a, uh, a back rack,
• 3:33
which kinda doubles as a- Yeah... as a splash... line it with a part of a fender or something to make it very effective. Yeah. For sure. Sure, sure, something like that.
• 3:41
But I mean, just to minimize the bead, you know, of- Are you talking for the low side? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that- Well, a- yeah, yeah, 'cause I have, I have that little- That Topeak-...
• 3:50
little, little piece thing off of the- That- [laughs]... 29er that- I, I like that, uh- It just takes the bead off. That Topeak Tourist- Bead off, I said... uh, DX, I think it is, for the disc brake model one, is really
• 4:02
a pretty nice rack. Does that have that MTX slidey-on system- Yep... clickity click? Yep. Yeah, that's kinda nice. They make a, they make a pretty good product for a pretty reasonable price, that's for sure.
• 4:13
Not- I've heard decent about all their- Probably not made in the USA, though. They're not made in the USA. I'm certain of that. Actually, we probably have a rack or two over there.
• 4:20
'Cause I was sniffing on that- Good value, good value in the rack there... that every- Yeah... what is it? The Everyday, Everyday rack, or the PDW, whatever it is.
• 4:28
Oh, that's- The little bamboo-y- Oh, you know what, though? That, that would be way sexier on that low side. That's one thing. You should do that. I know. You should totally do that.
• 4:35
Uh, but not- Now that I looked over and saw that- I've been, I've been eye fucking that thing for a little bit... yeah, I think- [laughs] So it's like, it's like, oh... That is a great... Yeah.
• 4:42
Uh, we gotta get a picture of that for, for the [laughs] Just to- I'll take, take a picture of that. Yeah. I love that just- Welcome to Enabler [laughs] Radio. [laughs] Jared had his last, um, NICA event- Oh...
• 4:55
this past weekend, which they never even did the races, but, uh, they went out and did adventure riding at various mountain bike areas around the state in a- Oh... socially distant and safe fashion, I trust. Right on.
• 5:09
Yeah. Yeah, that, I, I see the, uh, that, uh, Sherwood mountain bike club trailer thing constantly in my backyard. Yeah.
• 5:20
And, uh, but then I saw, like, a crew that apparently were, like, the chaperones or coaches or what have you on it, and it was interesting. They're going like, "Yeah, yeah, I'm not sure. That, that was a fun route."
• 5:32
[laughs] Yeah. Or something like that. I don't know. It, it, it looked like they did something that was a little, at least to them, clever, you know? Hmm. Yeah, they've- I mean-... they've got a big team.
• 5:41
They got like 50 kids on that team. Yeah. And yeah, I've seen- NICA, baby. Check it out next season... I've, I've seen some, yeah. When, yeah, when there's, like, mass, you know, group hanging out riding, and you're
• 5:54
sometimes going the other direction, [laughs] it's like, oh, sh- yeah. I mean, it is. It's a swarm. Yeah. A swarm of-...
• 6:02
of anything and you're, there's gonna be some jackal [laughs] that's gonna like, "Ugh," buzz the tower. They're, they're usually a good group- Yeah...
• 6:10
and they kinda have rules they gotta stick to and stuff, so hopefully they're being respectful. Right on. Right. Um, it's- I just ran through a- Yeah... a swarm of lances on the way in here, so- Oh, yeah.
• 6:20
Well, they use the- [laughs] It's kinda, it's kinda fresh... unfortunately, they use the, uh- Path leaf?... they use the oak leaf for their- Path leafs?... kind of their- Yes, path leafs... their speed work.
• 6:30
It's like you should probably not... That's more for cruising, not for speed work.
• 6:33
Yeah, that's, that's, it's, it, it's also- Well, we're getting to that time, we're getting to the time of year where there's gonna be fewer people on it, where you could, where, eh, I hate that I'm defending that, but
• 6:46
well, there's less people- I, I-... for fuck sake, you know? Oh, you mean can you go faster then? Sometimes. Well, it's respectful. Yeah. You don't go fast when there's people around.
• 6:51
I mean, you go fast when- You go fast when, yeah, when you see people, you slow down. If you see, yeah. I mean, eh. That's just the way it goes. Crazy. I don't care what your time trial is, just be courteous. Yeah.
• 7:00
If you're gonna be going the speed of a car on the trail, then go on the road. [laughs] Down to, what's, what the hell is it? Uh, Washington Park in- Unless you're on an electric bike and you're having fun. Yeah.
• 7:09
Then you're also going around people. Kenosha. Go to the velodrome. Go to the velodrome. G- get it out of your system. Yeah. Go around a damn oval.
• 7:15
They should have some kind of electric bike velodrome racing where there's a limit on battery power and, and they all- Oh... like, give every- They're all the same bike...
• 7:24
give everybody the same hub and the s- give everybody the same power system, and then have them do whatever they want for the bike. Oh, that'd be a neat way to do it, too.
• 7:31
And then you have, then we throw a ball- It's like-... into the mix, and it's- Yeah [laughs]... it's roller ball now. It's like ITB racing. [laughs] Yeah. Well, yeah, kind of if you give- You know?
• 7:39
Low, low cost and tracks... m- The ball has- Limited bikes... and you have to, like, wear armor, Mad Max style. Roller, roller ball style? Yeah. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. [laughs] That comes next.
• 7:48
That kind, that would be good. That's, well, I know. I like that idea, Greg. I'm already seven moves ahead here. That should, that would be, you know.
• 7:53
It's too bad the, um, the Brown Deer Park Velodrome is gone, 'cause that would be nice and close to go goof around. Yeah. Yeah. The one in Kenosha was, I was just there a couple weeks ago. That's pretty active still.
• 8:04
There's a lot up during the season. Yeah. There's a lot of activity there. There was a guy- Although, I don't know about this year. I didn't- There was a guy on a 10 speed that's like just total hippie, just bring.
• 8:13
And he, [laughs] he was going mid- Grabbing it... midway around and just consistent and just, I don't know- Grab... late 60s. I mean, it was- Just rolling? Rolling around? Yeah, yeah.
• 8:24
[laughs] And I'm like freaking out, going like, "Ah, I'm too high, I'm too high, and I'm not going fast enough." Yeah, you need to be going faster on those c- bank turns. Yeah. That's the whole point.
• 8:33
It's not a very fat bike friendly. You kind of can be hands-off on them at like 35 or something. Right. Right, right. In the middle of the track, you're moving along pretty good. That's crazy. Yeah. Sounds like fun.
• 8:42
Uh-huh. Yeah. Fun. Yeah. Scary fun. Fixie. Fixie boy. Exactly. I, I ain't doing that. Yeah. At all. Well, that's all, you know, obviously, if you get into it, that's where all that comes from. Yeah. Yeah. Of course.
• 8:53
Of course. That's a mental thing too, man, 'cause I, I gave, I, I did a couple bites at that apple [laughs] and I'm like, I'm like, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. This is freaking me out."
• 9:01
Take the punk track that they, you know. The, the original punk track at Rays was pretty fantastic for- I love that thing. Yeah. I wanna build one somewhere. Just, you know. N- they're not that big.
• 9:09
Yeah, no, and they're fun. And I'm surprised there aren't any in Milwaukee that are kind of accessible outside. Where the one from Rays is? Probably a big pile of plywood somewhere.
• 9:20
Or did they just shut that place down and do nothing to it, and it's still sitting there? Yeah, I don't know. If it's still sitting in there, maybe we can go grab it. Yeah. We should find out.
• 9:26
I think it probably- Yeah... well, lumber's pretty expensive right now. I was gonna say- Yeah... it'd probably be cheaper just to build a new one, though. Yeah.
• 9:33
'Cause you can have all the lumber dropped off instead of trying to move that thing. If that one's all done, you have to design anything. You'd have to take it apart. How are you gonna get it there? Label it.
• 9:38
Put it on a, put it on a truck. Label it and take it apart, put it back together. Put it, probably could. Well, let's go investigate, 'cause I want one. That'd be fantastic.
• 9:46
I kinda ha- almost have a place to put it, too, but we have to get rid of this place to do that.
• 9:53
[laughs] It's a new, it's a new potential location for combining both the warehouse and the shop, which makes obviously good sense if we can do it, and not spend a bunch of money on the warehouse part of it,
• 10:06
so we'll see. Shop house. Yeah. Big, big door right up the street. It'd be pretty- A warehouse... it'd be pretty nice. I know what you're talking. I know what four you'd be throwing down. Yep.
• 10:18
Speaking of that, did you see that, uh, we're, we're digressing into weirdness, but the, that building that was for sale for way too much money is, appears to be having a bunch of work done to it? Yeah.
• 10:28
[laughs] Got bought for not very much money, so. Did it? Do you know where- Yeah, they had some, yeah. I, yeah. [laughs] Oh. We'll talk after the show. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway. Wing wing ding.
• 10:37
Anyway, uh, so we're gonna do some- [laughs] No, do not speak directly into the flower... we're, we're going to be, uh, doing some hopefully rain shots on Sunday, so. Or, or tomorrow evening if it's good.
• 10:53
You mean yesterday. Yeah, yesterday evening. It was good. [laughs] What? What happened? Um- We have to do some shots of the- Of the- Oh. Oh, oh, oh, shots... 604. Welcome to the radio program, caller.
• 11:07
Who do we have on the line? Happy Friday. It's Shannon. Hey, Shannon. What's up, Shannon? I just haven't talked to you guys in, oh, I don't know, just well, pretty much 2020 so far, so I figured I'd say hello.
• 11:20
Well, it's good because we didn't really have anything to talk about anyway. We're just kinda rambling on. [laughs] Rambling on. What's your, what's your cycling, uh, summer been like?
• 11:29
Uh, working, riding, and playing with the girls pretty much. Did I- Uh- Did, did I see a carpet fiber bike in your pictures? Um, yeah, I became a roadie part-time. Okay. Ah. Well.
• 11:44
Uh, yeah, so I do have a carbon road bike, but beginning of the year I did build up my first Surly. Nice. What kind? Uh, I got a 2020 Karate Monkey, and then, uh, built it up.
• 11:59
Kevin hooked me up with a, a 140 RED inverted fork and some carbon bars. Oh, he's- Oh, very good... I put on some carbon- Carbon wheels, so some more plastic- [laughs]... to, uh, make Tony smile. Yeah. Plastic.
• 12:13
Is that what you think every day when you're rolling down the road, "I wish I could buy some more plastic"? [laughs] Yeah. So it's a mix, and then I made it single speed to play around- Nice... out here on the trails.
• 12:24
Uh, separate wheel set, or did you just, just gonna run always single? Always single. Right on. I'm just finishing up a- So, [laughs] nice and- I'm just finishing up a coaster brake single speed.
• 12:36
[laughs] So it's like- Oh, fun... yeah, it's, it's, um, from Money Bikes. It's a, kind of a modified Shimano hub, and- Just get a picture of that for the showing... it's, it's a coaster brake.
• 12:47
It's, the bike should be done next week. I've just been slacking off and working on customer bikes, so. But I, it should- So is it, like, a clunker or, or old school? Yeah, bas- Yeah, yeah. It's a clunker. It's, yeah.
• 12:57
Yeah, pretty much. It's got- Yeah, it's a-... it's got his handlebars on it too. It's just a f- a 650B frame I had forever and has been a bunch of different things.
• 13:05
Most recently it was an electric bike, and, uh, I'm like, "Yeah, that thing should be something else now," so a new project. Nice. It's pretty slick. It's gonna be cool. Yeah, for sure. Just tool around. Yeah. Yeah.
• 13:21
With the, with the lack of big rides and racing going on- Yeah... I mean, basically I've, I've built up, uh... Well, I got three bikes now.
• 13:28
The latest one to my quiver is a old '70s Schwinn, actually Chicago Schwinn trike. Oh, I saw that. Yeah. It, uh, yeah. Oh, wow. I, I bet, I bet that's real strong. Better than Big Sexy's trike.
• 13:41
That's exactly what Chad and I were talking about. [laughs] It's like, yeah, that's a way better ride than what Big Sexy's riding.
• 13:48
I, I can't believe the miles that guy's putting on, even riding this thing up and down the street. I'm like- [laughs]... ugh. Mm. And then knowing, knowing his trip to all the capitals is just, that guy's amazing now.
• 13:59
Even more amazing in my mind. Right. You know what, Shannon? Right. He's gonna be super happy to hear that, 'cause he's, he's listening. I'm just waiting for a little bit [laughs] to pull him into the show.
• 14:09
[laughs] That's awesome. [laughs] So- Yeah. So, uh, I was wondering, like, this Global Fat Bike Day, are you guys just doing the Santa Rampage, or are you guys doing a Global Fat Bike thing or...?
• 14:23
I, I think that's still to be de- determined. [laughs] Um, you know, Global Fat Bike Day is its own thing, so that doesn't... Y- While we'll probably do something on that day, I don't know...
• 14:34
Yeah, we're gonna go some- Okay... We'll do Global Fat Bike Day and then something else probably, like Steel Is Real or, I mean, uh, Santa Rampage maybe. Oh, Santa Rampage or something. Which, yeah.
• 14:42
Right, 'cause that coincides with Santa Rampage there in Milwaukee. U- Usually, yep. Yep. Yeah.
• 14:47
I mean, Santa Rampage is different now anyway, so we can do a Global Fat Bike Day ride in Santa suits, and then- Yeah, yeah... that would kinda qualify for both. For both. Yeah.
• 14:55
Because the only real part of the ride is, is short. It's from 67th Street or something to Lakefront Brewery, so it's only- Oh, yeah. The, yeah... seven miles or something. Yeah. It's not very far.
• 15:05
And then at that point they disperse all across the city, so, you know, it's kinda cool, but- Well, the, like you-... you do wanna have something else organized... the old-timey-ish
• 15:14
abbreviated was that Lakefront parade style through the downtown- Right... to the Great Lakes. Right. That was kinda like- Yeah... like doing a parade parade. Yeah. I don't know, Shannon.
• 15:26
And that worked out for a little bit, but. We, we just did Steel Is Real two weeks ago. Yeah. And it worked out pretty well.
• 15:32
There was, like, 40 people on the ride, but n- not everybody was always at the same place at the same time, which was kinda what I was shooting for. Right, right.
• 15:39
And I would slowly- Yeah, it looked like you guys had a blast. Yeah. I was sort of expecting that the, um, Santa Rampage would ta- follow a similar tact.
• 15:47
I don't think they're gonna have a, you know, a massive meetup somewhere where you've got 3,000 Santas waiting to ride all together. Right. But I do think there'll be a lot of ex- Santa activity. Yeah.
• 15:58
And, I mean, there's probably, there's a bunch of other places. There'll be a lot of Santa activity. I know Rochester's doing one. Well, yeah.
• 16:01
And it normally is, and it has kind of gone that direction, where it's just like y- you're gonna just see a bunch of Santas going into bars and riding bikes. Right. Like, all over the damn city, so.
• 16:12
Gotta wash my Santa suit. Yeah. Or [laughs] I gotta... No, I have to put more tent sealant on mine just in case, so yeah. Yeah, JK's is funny. Yeah. [laughs] Um, Shannon, how, how are- My son JK...
• 16:22
how are you liking that Wren fork? Uh, the 140s a little much. Um, but- Because, yeah, what was that? It was made for a 120 fork? Is that what the Karate Monkey was made for?
• 16:34
I, I saw, I saw on Surly's website you can get a Karate Monkey with a 140, so I just- Oh, okay... went with the 140. Oh, there you go.
• 16:41
And the Wren, uh, comes 150, but you can move it down to 140 or 130, so I've been playing with that, but that's a lot of travel for out here really. Yeah, I think so too. Yeah, yeah. At least. So, but, I mean, it's fun.
• 16:55
I know how to dial them in since I had the, uh, 100 mil travel on the fat bike for so long, so. Yep. Actually, I got one in the stand right now. Um- I'm changing out the, uh, compression side of the, the fork.
• 17:07
[laughs] Yeah. Um- Well, once you get your s- your sag and you get it dialed in, it's like riding in an old school Cadillac. I mean, they're- Oh, yeah... super plush. Yeah. Yeah, for sure.
• 17:18
And I- I'd just like them to ramp up pretty fast at the end- Wait, wait, wait... 'cause I don't, you know. How many old school Cadillacs did you ride in? Because some of them were not that plush. Just saying.
• 17:28
[laughs] My dad had some shitboxes, man. Well, my first car, my first car was a '77 Delta 88. Oof. That was pretty much a big ass boat meant- That's a, that's a big car... for the land yacht. That's a big car.
• 17:37
I'm, mine was a '68 Polara. It wasn't my first car, but it was by far the largest car I ever owned. [laughs] '67 Chevelle. [laughs] And that was a small car back then. That's a really big car. Oh, hell yeah.
• 17:46
Yeah, that's huge. Yeah, you can fit eight people in the trunk to get into the drive-in movie. [laughs] Like they didn't figure that one out. Right on, dude.
• 17:55
So I don't know, what do you got, any, any other plans for, um, rides this year, or is Santa Rampage kinda what you're looking at as something maybe to give a go at?
• 18:04
Well, I saw Fatbike.com posted that new artwork, which was really killer, that, uh, Chris Daisy Designs did, and so it, that's what got it in my head.
• 18:13
I'm like, "Oh, shit, I gotta-" Yeah, I started making some plans where I'm gonna go, if I'm heading up north or- You know, yeah, I, to me, I guess it kinda depends on if there's snow.
• 18:21
If there's snow, I'd go to, like, Pleasant Valley or I'd go to, you know, somewhere and do a little trail riding in the snow if it's actually snowing. Yeah. But usually it doesn't. No.
• 18:30
Usually just sloppy and wet and kind of semi-irritating. [laughs] Yeah. Right. Or straight up irritating. Yeah.
• 18:38
Yeah, otherwise, yeah, I've pretty much played out all the trails out here that I need to find some newer places to go. Have you been up to Wausau yet this year? Wausau. No, sir. Wausau.
• 18:50
I, understand- North-sau I, I mean, I've been there a couple times, obviously nine miles up there, and my son and I did the, uh, the bike park, Sylvan Bike Park. But the,
• 19:00
uh, there's a lot of trails up there, and Schlabowski was saying the, the Ringlé Trail is what would be the best for me, 'cause it would be badass. [laughs] So- Yeah, I've played at Cam Rock a few times.
• 19:13
I, I, I really love that, uh, the trails there. Other than that, Alpine Valley's always really quick for me to get to Silver Lake.
• 19:21
Um- That's kinda climbing, that's climbing, climbing, climbing, climbing, climbing, and then going down, right? It's- Uh, you, well, you do have enough payoff for the climbing there. Yeah.
• 19:29
I, I mean, I rode there many years ago when Jamison k- you know, kinda first started it- Yeah... and, uh, but I haven't been out there for a while. Yeah, it's been years.
• 19:35
I, I have this aversion to riding or driving my car with my bike in it to go ride my bike these days. Yeah, totally.
• 19:42
So we, I do a lot of urban riding, and we have some trails here, but it's, it certainly doesn't, uh, warrant a, a dedicated full suspension bike. It's, it's questionable whether it's even necessary to have a front fork.
• 19:55
Right, on some of the stuff. But a fat bike is pretty fucking fun. [laughs] Yeah, it is. Yeah. I don't have it on the fat bike anymore, just the, the Monkey.
• 20:05
Well, next time we get together you can, uh, you can give me the Ren school of, uh, adjusting the fork.
• 20:09
I, I got a pretty good idea, but the s- doing the dual chamber thing is like, you know, here's what I want it to do, let's figure out how that, to make it happen, 'cause I know how I want it to feel, so. Yeah.
• 20:21
But, uh, right on. That'd, that'd be easy. I'll just have to, I'll have to come up and visit one Wednesday. Yeah. Have a couple beers with you. Yeah. A super- Wait, beers? Super idea.
• 20:30
What, what is your, what, what is the show beer for tonight? Uh, uh, wait, wait, wait. [bell ringing] Oh, wait, wait, I, I've just sort of had the thing here. It's- We are at the top of the hill.
• 20:38
Hey, maybe Shannon wants to host the show now, 'cause he's- [laughs]... getting all the cues right today. I guess. Uh, J- courtesy- Hey, no, I'm just a frequent listener [laughs] Courtesy of JK, Octoberfest,
• 20:50
uh, from Surly Brewing up there in, uh, Minneapolis area. Yep, yep. Do tell. Oh, nice. Why did you choose this particular beer on September 29th? [laughs] 'Cause it's Octoberfest season. Or 30th.
• 21:02
It is Octoberfest season. It is October 30th. Yeah. It's only two days ago. It's, it's counterintuitive- I think all, I think all of them released that... it's- Septemberfest...
• 21:10
I think most of the breweries have been releasing. Yeah. Oh. Makes sense. It's that time. It's a good beer. It's that time. It's actually a pretty good beer. It's a pretty darn good beer. Yeah. 6%, and yeah.
• 21:20
It's traditional. It's malty. It's festive. Yeah. Exactly. And it was, I, I went into Otto's and I was looking, [laughs] I was sniffing around. I'm like, "Oh, I probably should get a show beer."
• 21:29
You know, so- And it is called Surly too, even though they're unaffiliated. Right. Loosely, yes. Unaffiliated, but yeah, I, I, we were hearing all their- Yeah, they're both in, they're both in Minneapolis.
• 21:39
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Got that going for us. Oh, they're, it was funny, I w- uh, when they were talking about not the collaboration- Well, again, I'm getting, uh-...
• 21:46
but the agreement of like, we're two different things, but we do well together- Right... type thing. Shannon wants to- Well, then- Shannon wants to go to the bathroom. Got to wee-wee?
• 21:55
[laughs] No, I, I am going to go in and say good night to some of the little girls and sit down and finish my beers. Great hearing from you, dude. Right on. Right on, right on. Thanks for calling in.
• 22:06
[coughs] We'll talk- So, all right, guys, have a good one. We'll talk to y'all later. Right on. Sounds cool. Bye. Cool, I had it on my phone to remind
• 22:16
me to tell you that Shannon wanted to know about that, and I said, "But if you have time, you should call in," and, you know- Oh, good. He called in. See, that's how we get guests on the show. Yeah.
• 22:23
You tell 'em, tell 'em to call in. It's like- I'm like, "Come on, man, call in." Yeah. Otherwise we're gonna blather, like we do. Right? Well, hey, welcome to the radio program, caller.
• 22:32
[laughs] Who do we have on the line? [laughs] Hello, it's Big Sexy from Tennessee. Tennessee. Wow. Tennessee. I, I, I am, I am- Tennessee... absolutely flabbergasted that one of your listeners called in and mentioned me.
• 22:48
[laughs] That, that, that is, that's wonderful. Dude, that's not the only one that does that. Sh- right, that's, that's true. We should have a, a- Oh, y- y- you, you think-... Big Sexy appreciation day...
• 22:56
I just put it on speaker and, and wait to hear the beep? No, no, no. [laughs] I listen. [laughs] Um,
• 23:03
but, um, I, I, I'm, I'm proud to, I'm proud to say, and I'm, and if, if y'all follow me, follow me on Facebook, you know that I crossed into my 31st state in Tennessee. Tennessee.
• 23:16
But more, more importantly, Heather has been in every state east of the Mississippi River. Wow, that's cool. Wow. I like those milestones like that, where you get a sense of accomplishment- And-... before you're done.
• 23:32
Yeah. And I- See you become-... have no idea what a Monkey is or what kind of 228 by 10- Oh, karate monkey? Karate Monkey. Karate Monkey. Yeah.
• 23:42
[laughs] I have no idea what y'all, what y'all are talking about when you say those things, but we've done it. That's a mou- that's a mountain bike, yeah. Without knowing those things.
• 23:49
[laughs] Well, yeah, that's just a mou- Right... that's a s- it's a model of a mountain bike. He, you don't need to know about that. [laughs] You just need to know how many states he's done.
• 23:58
I'll te- I'll tell you what, though. Right, um, uh, 31 states, uh, 26 state capitals. I'm, I will be at 27 tomorrow. Nice. Um, I'm right outside of Nashville. I'm, I'm being very careful about how deep I go tonight.
• 24:13
Yeah. Good call. [laughs] Um, and so- You know, and- Shit. Yeah, yeah, yeah... and, I mean, I, I don't wanna, I don't wanna get political, but that debate was stupid last night.
• 24:25
[laughs] Um, anyway, uh- I couldn't get, I couldn't get through six minutes of it before I started yelling at it, and then I had- No... to leave the room, so. Yeah.
• 24:32
It, it, it, either, e- either way, either way, we're doomed. Oh, sure. [laughs] We're doomed. Yeah. Pretty much. Get on your bike and ride- Like, like Queen said Ah, escapism. Come on, now...
• 24:45
like Queen said, get on your bike and ride. Shit, yeah. Yeah. It's gonna be a good thing to do to- Um, I, uh-... pull your head together... I'll tell you what, though. That there's a big...
• 25:00
I mean, I don't know about, about you guys, but I've been in 31 states. There is a huge difference when you cross into another state, and, and, you know, it, it, it, it, you go to the ga-...
• 25:16
I go, I go to the gas station, 'cause you can tell a lot about a town just by sitting in the gas station for a minute. That's for sure. You can tell what you're getting into. Oh, yeah, yeah.
• 25:26
And, and, and- Feel the pulse... and, uh, when, when I crossed into Tennessee, I was like- Tennessee... whoa. Yeah. I ain't getting no donations from these motherfuckers, am I?
• 25:39
[laughs] Well, I've, I've been in every state except Alaska and Hawaii, but not on a bicycle in- Right... the majority of them. I, I do drive, and I- Right, right...
• 25:47
I stop at the out of the way spots like the ma and pa diners and stuff, and that's where I... You, you know, if you go to a place and you stay in there for a day or two, you can get a pretty good pulse- Yeah...
• 25:56
from the diner- Yeah... at breakfast time. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 25:59
[laughs] And, and, and, like, tho- those, those select individuals who, who welcome you in or, or, are very nice to you, tho- tho- those are, those are cool people, don't get me wrong.
• 26:10
But the rest of them, oh my God, do they stare, stare you down. [laughs] Probably, yeah, wanna know what they think. Like, what in the world, what in the world is that three-wheeled blue thing right there?
• 26:24
[laughs] That's a guy who's- He's got American flags, fine. He must be a veteran. Oh, no. But, uh, and I'll tell you what, guys. I, I, and I don't wanna take up too much time, but, but, um,
• 26:37
somebody called the cops on me the other morning. Oh, goddammit. I, I was still in Kentucky. And? Okay. Um, I was about to cross into Tennessee, but somebody called the cops on me 'cause I was begging for money. Mm.
• 26:52
Doesn't sound like you. And I- [laughs] No, no, no, no. I had my sign up, and I was sitting there. And, uh, the guy, the, the cop came up to me and said, "Hey, man, uh, I heard reports that you were begging for money."
• 27:07
I'm like, "No, sir. I have not said anything but good morning or hello to anybody today. Uh, yeah, my sign's up, but, um..." My, my sign's pretty simple. It says, "Traveling. Anything helps.
• 27:24
Even a kind word goes a long way. Smile." Right? That sounds pretty good to me. Yeah, that's pretty darn right. Right. Right. It, just, just smile. It, uh, doesn't matter, right?
• 27:36
But, um- Yeah, I can't p- I can't punch a hole in that look... because, because of the American flags I have, um, sticking out of Heather now, I put underneath the smile, I said, "I am not,"
• 27:48
  N-I, N-O-T-E, N-O-T-E- [laughs] N-O-T, in red, "I am not a veteran, but I support our troops."
• 27:59
And the cop said, "Well, uh, would you think you'd do better, uh, money-wise if you said you were a veteran?" I'm like, "That is... No." Yeah. [laughs] Jesus.
• 28:09
[laughs] That's a, that's the most despicable thing you can do is- Oh, Lord... pretend to be a veteran. Oh, man. And a cop told you- They will not- And a cop told you this or asked you this? Oh, God. No, no.
• 28:20
But, but no, he, he, he gave me 10 bucks and shook my hand and- Ah... told me to have a good day. Right on. Excellent. Well, there are good cops out there, obviously. So.
• 28:29
Yeah, you just gotta sort through some weird- Man, I'll tell you, I'll tell you- Yeah. [laughs] You gotta go through some damn weird waters to get there sometimes. [laughs] It's like, what?
• 28:37
And I, I've got, I've got one, I've got one more thing, and I'm, and I'm really sorry to say it, but, uh, Nashville will be the last capital.
• 28:46
It'll be number 27, but it'll be the last capital for at least a year, because, uh, I got some big boy stuff to do down in New Orleans.
• 28:54
I gotta make sure my human girl gets rehabilitated from her stroke and, and, uh, is living a good life before I can take off on Heather again. So it's gonna be a little while yet. Well- All right...
• 29:06
glad you're doing what you need to do- Yeah... and that you got to experience what you have so far. And you can, you can look forward to- Keep, keep pushing it, dude... yeah. Yeah, yeah. Good vibes, bro.
• 29:15
I'm, I'm gonna, I'm gonna write, I'm gonna write half the book while I'm, like, waiting for her to get, get better and shit.
• 29:21
But, um, I'll tell you what, it, it's a, it, it, it's obvious that I love her that much, that I'm gonna stop what I'm doing and, and make sure she's good. All right.
• 29:32
But, um, I, I think, uh, me and Heather, we, we still, we still... What is it? Uh, 29 states to go. You'll do it. Just might be on a little delayed game. It is 19. 19. We still have 19 states to go. There you go.
• 29:49
Yeah, 19. Damn it, man. Yeah, right? All right, man. That's amazing. Thanks very much for calling in. Give us a, give us a ring. Hey, no problem. We'll talk to you soon. Right on.
• 29:58
Well, look, and I wish, I wish I had some sort of a technical problem that I've been having, but I mean, other than the front brake, and, and it's been getting a workout with all these hills, uh, in the Smoky Mountains and all that, but- Don't jinx it...
• 30:13
I got nothing. Right on. No jinx. She's been riding like- Come on. I'm throwing salt on myself... she's been riding like a dream
• 30:21
Throw some salt over your shoulder and turn around 13 times and, and, uh, spitting- Smarten up... bloody Marys in the mirror. Whatever, whatever- [laughs]...
• 30:30
you gotta do to get us to, get us to New Orleans to, to fix this all up. I'll be in touch, guys. I pro- I promise. All right. Thanks again. Thanks, man. Bye. All right, y'all. Oops, I pushed the button. [laughs] Oops.
• 30:44
Poops. Big sexy, ladies and gentlemen. I have no butt. Half the country already. Big, big sexy. Uh, more than half the country, but half the capitals. And four times more than mine. Yeah. In, I think, in general.
• 30:56
I, uh- I don't know. [laughs] You know, actually, I, um, certainly haven't made it a point to ride to every state capital, and I've ridden in some. Oh.
• 31:02
But that is an undertaking that, you know, somebody has to be really dedicated, and he- Yeah, and he, and he is... so, you know, I, this w- he r- he mentioned writing a book.
• 31:09
I- he had mentioned that in the past, and I kinda forgot about it, but- Yeah? Why the heck wouldn't you? 'Cause there's gonna be a lot of stories from that project, you know? Yeah, absolutely.
• 31:16
And I'm sure people wanna read it. Some of it might be raccoons. Some of it might be, um, big dick trucks. I don't know. Yeah, could... [laughs] Little dicks. Little dick trucks. Little. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 31:26
Big trucks, little dicks. Yeah. Whatever. Doodies, dude. [laughs] Get the doodie. I like, I like all size trucks. Oh, come on. [laughs] I mean... Oh, I don't know.
• 31:39
Well, no, he was, when he was, uh, speaking of, uh, you know, you go state to state, I mean, and that just works out in region to region, for God sakes. Oh, yeah, for sure.
• 31:49
And, oh, I think- It'd be even in a car, you notice that, for sure...
• 31:50
oh, shit, when we, um, went to, uh, Ice House, that was the funniest thing in the damn world when I walked in there, and it was like, uh, [laughs] asked for two drink t- [laughs]
• 32:04
and I thought it was gonna be, like, plastic and, you know, whatever, but no, it was bottles, and like, okay, can I take this outside? [laughs] You're not from around here, are you? Yeah.
• 32:13
And I'm like, hot damn, I really am not. And I mean, it really was only, like, seven miles in a southwestern direction of my normal. Yeah. Yeah, that's weird. Um, for sure.
• 32:23
And it was, like, a little bit of a different- The most segregated city in the, uh- Yeah... in the, in the country, I believe... it's weird. Compartmentalized just weirdness.
• 32:30
It's, it's not the most segregated city in the world. But that's not, that's not just a race segregation. No. It's segregated in a lot of different- Yeah. Yeah, it's, yeah, yeah... [laughs] yeah, yeah.
• 32:37
It, oh, now I'm gonna get yelled at. Thank you, iPhone 3. All right, we should probably stop talking before I say other dumb shit. I'm d- [laughs] What about bike talk? I mean, what do you got in the shop?
• 32:45
Well, it's all about, that's why I talk about the bike. Oh, my God, I didn't, I walked past it twice. The gray vape. The Wednesday is in the house. It's gray, gray vape. [laughs] Gray vape. Gray vape.
• 32:57
How did I not see that? Yeah, and when you were mentioning your- Gray vape... heavy is the head that wears the crown. Yeah, that's a large.
• 33:06
I got a large, and a another large, and a small, I think, are what's coming in so far. Oh, my- But we got other ones coming. My camera does not do this color justice. That is a- No, it really doesn't, does it?
• 33:17
It's- It's 'cause it's a pixel or whatever. We, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. It's also 'cause of the fluorescent light probably. Doesn't know how to deal with it. Don't, don't disparage that. Do the white balance thing.
• 33:26
Actually celebrate that. I'm still thinking about getting one. God damn it. [laughs] You know, uh, thanks to our- Oh, I left my Pix- or my, um, iPhone X at home because, you know, [laughs] it's an iPhone X...
• 33:37
better camera. Um, so- I know... thanks to those guests, we've already, you know, done plenty of damage to our fine listeners' sensibilities. Yeah, I'd say.
• 33:47
Hey, here's something that I solved, or at least partially solved, 'cause I haven't seen the whole- [laughs]... the series yet, but John was- Did you solve puzzle?
• 33:54
John was, last week, Trusky was on the show, and he said very adamantly that it was a LiveWire and a Sportster that were on this new Long Way Up show, and I adamantly said, uh, no, there, there's definitely- Yeah, that was a LiveWire 4...
• 34:07
there's definitely two, two electric motorcycles. And we kinda saw it in the fourth episode, there still were. We postulates, well, maybe one of them died, and they had to use another one.
• 34:15
Here's what I think really happened. I forgot about the third guy, 'cause they have a camera guy that follows them on a motorcycle. Yeah. Guess what he's riding? How else do you get the damn footage?
• 34:24
That's Sportster 1200. So for all you who thought we were crazy, I think that's what happened there. [laughs] Oh, I still think you're crazy. [laughs] What, what was the name of the show again?
• 34:32
That's, that got you there. How do I see this? Long Way Up on Apple TV- Long Way Up... for now. Oh, here's something, uh, for you people that are looking for new tires in our cheapskates. Ah. CST Toboggan. Mm, how heavy?
• 34:43
Nice, nice name, huh? Uh, weight is, I don't know. I'm gonna have to get some in- Mm, size?... and we'll just check them out. 26 by four and studdable. Mm-hmm. $27 for the standard and $77 for the pre-studded tire.
• 34:57
I'll take them. 26 by four- [laughs] 26 by 4.0. Yeah, I was thinking I better order a few of those, huh? Yeah. [laughs] I mean, for studded tires- I like their tires... and- Their China tire, what?
• 35:07
C-Chang- Uh, Cheng Shin tire, I believe. Yeah. But here's the deal with them. If you're gonna be riding studded tires, it doesn't really matter how heavy they are. Right. It's cold. It's gonna be cold outside.
• 35:15
You're not gonna be going very fast. You're gonna have fun. Yeah. And you, it, I don't know if they're, I don't know how good a race tire they are, but I guarantee you- Who cares?...
• 35:21
they're gonna be a good lakefront ice tire. Yeah. So, yeah. Time me up. We- we'll be ordering some of those. Time me up. Order a lot of those. I'm not shipping them, though, 'cause they're wire bead.
• 35:29
So you want them, you're gonna have to come into the store. That's cool. Well, there's other places, but it, too expensive to ship a tire that- Yeah... that you can't fold. Yeah.
• 35:37
Uh, uh- I wanna get those bad boys in here. Oh, it's, uh, tomorrow's taking a, Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day. Oh. S- be the 3rd, tomorrow. Oh, my. Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day.
• 35:48
IMBA, IMBA's got a whole thing on their website about it. It's definitely not your typical one, but it's, it's, it's a- No, it is its own... he's only a little kid...
• 35:56
there's a lot of ideas for doing it still on socially distancing. He's only 11 months old, man. And it's, maybe it's your kid. Yeah. Take your kid. Your daughter doesn't ride a mountain bike?
• 36:06
[laughs] He huffs in- indignantly. I'm puffed. I can't even respond to that. I'm just gonna agree about it.
• 36:12
[laughs] Well, that's all right, 'cause w- we can get the hell out of here right now if, uh, y- you- Make like a tree and haul... uh, come back next week.
• 36:19
We'll probably have other stuff to talk about, I would, I would imagine. That's about as smart as a screen door on a battleship. [upbeat music] Or a submarine.
• 36:31
  [upbeat music]
