- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Hello, thank you for having me.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: How you doing?
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: I'm good.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I've I've been thinking about this all week since you've asked me.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: Like I've I've been so excited.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: Because like this is if I could have like my own podcast, it would just it would just be me talking about uh about cat in the heart.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: I really think it would be so That's so strange.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Like I I don't know.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Well I hadn't heard about this well, I hadn't thought about this movie in so long, and then you were like talking about it, and I was like, oh, I've got to ask Molly to come and talk about this film because I know like it's universally known as being a terrible movie.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: I don't understand why, like I really but yeah, it is like I've the thing is I've tried to bring people on board with this film many of times since from being a child to an adult, and it has never worked.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Like I've I've forced it upon people, but people have never actually enjoyed it to the same level as me.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: So I'm excited to there's gonna be a somewhat listening to this, and again, um I will be forcing it on people.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: There will be people that want to that that will come and listen to it after go and watch it after this, or if they've seen it already, and like are fans, they'll they'll flock to it because it's for the gonna be the one of the first podcasts ever on it.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I hope I'll I hope so.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I mean maybe like my true love is another person that equally loves King the Heart.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: Like maybe that's why I've not found them yet, because it's so hard.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: But there'll be someone out there and they're gonna like search cat in the heart on Spotify or something, and then I'm gonna come up and it's like, oh my god.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: So if you're listening, hey, yeah, yeah, just just DM me.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: DM Mon at you.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: You get some freak stuff.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just send just send me like a cat in the hat like quote, like that's it, and then I'll know.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but just with a hat on, and I'll know.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: There doesn't have to be any awkwardness, there's no like, you know, we don't have to get to know each other, no small talk.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Just do that and we're ready to go.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: Well, here's the thing.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: So on Rotten Tomatoes, it's nine percent.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: Nine percent.
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: I can't believe and then the audience is fifty-five percent.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: But hopeful.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: Which is not bad.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: It's not bad.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: It's like just below a positive rating.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: 60% is positive on there, so that's not bad.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: But 163 reviews from critics, and then it says 250 from audience, so it's like it's it's basically like the same it's like barely more audience score.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: I mean why has no one seen this?
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't understand.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: I feel like I thought I was a massive I I think I was in a bubble, right?
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Because I only recently realized that people don't like this film and it wasn't, and it was a flop.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Like I knew it was yeah, like I think I thought that everyone just liked it because it was like when you're a kid and you watch a film, like I might I it came out in 2003, so I think I was like 11.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Um Okay.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: So so I always think like you you kind of liked most things when you're a kid.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Like you like a lot of the films that you watch.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Like if someone buys at you on DVD, then it's just like the DVD you have and you just watch it and it becomes like part of your identity, like like whether you like it or not, kind of.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: And so I I actually thought like everybody else just kind of liked it, but then when you bring it up, people hated it or didn't have it on DVD and stuff.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, huh, because I have like I had like the Teddy, I had like I was like, I was like always like on the DVD, because the DVD in particular, it had really good features on it.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Like I loved it.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: I think I might have liked that more.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Like there was a there was there was a bit that was like cat in the hat dance along, you know, where it teaches you how to do this dance.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: And like I remember like I loved that so much, like I'd just do it in my room, and when people would come over for a sleepover, I was like, oh my god, let's do the cat in the hat dance.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: And people just weren't really bored and were like, Can we do something else now?
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: And I was like, Oh Did you not find you were too old for it?
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: That's another thing, like, because I was in high school, like this isn't a primary this isn't primary school behaviour.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: This was I think it came out when I was in year seven.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, to be honest, it I probably had it on DVD when I was in year eight, real cinema.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Um, but I was like so childlike.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: But the film is like for everyone, it has that humour, so like if anything, people were.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it kind of tried they're trying to make it appeal to everyone, don't they?
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: They do try and make it appeal.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: Um so wait, it came out in November Wait, when did it come out in the UK?
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: 2nd of April 2014.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: No, no, not 14.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: 2004 No.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: In the UK it did.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: No, 2014.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh 2004, sorry.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: Not 2014.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was like, Yannis, what are you doing tonight?
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I was like, how was that like universal?
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: No, no, what was that?
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: I was like in college or university even.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: I was like with the dance along on DVD, I was like, what?
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: Sorry, 2004.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah, this makes sense.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: What month was it?
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: April November.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: April.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I was I think I was still 11.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: So it's fine, but I was in year eight.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was I was uh 15, so I was just like way over.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: You were over it.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: That was not my tar it was I was not the target.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Um it I in year in year eight though, to be fair, I still believed in Fab of Christmas.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, I I was like an absolute freak of nature.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: Like someone someone also I went to like the roughest school, like in Salford, and these kids were like so adult, and like I was like a kind hat kid that was like believed in Faber Christmas, and someone brought someone brought it up in P and like, oh my god, Molly thinks Santa's real.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Yeah, and they were like, How's that possible?
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Well, he doesn't come to you because you don't believe, and yeah, and I know, but bless me, but then I did catch my dad at that that Christmas, and life has not been the same since.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: So since then, Cat in the Hat has mean nothing to you.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: No, it does, it has doesn't have the same impact.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: It reminds me of the time before where there was hope and humanity.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: So wait or were all your friends like my uh like really adult then basically, like were they were they all like very different to you?
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: Th there was a few that were like a s a similar to me, but I was definitely the most childlike, like just on another level.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: I don't think I swore until like I was like in year eleven, and like um I just can't imagine any of this with you.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: I know, like I I just rebel and it's mad because when I when I like I think when I left school, I like rebelled and to such an extreme to like even it out.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, no, I was like and also like I was like obsessed with like SpongeBob, which is like a similar like genre of humour, I think.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: SpongeBob's obviously better, but like to the point where like it was like all I would talk about, like I would go to like this drama class and I would only do like I would act out like SpongeBob scenes.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: I think we did do a cat in the heart scene as well.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Like of course, um yeah, I was I was just I was a little angel, so how many times have oh no god, sorry.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: No, no, I think I I think there was an a dark side to it, and I think that is why cat in the heart was like the perfect the perfect thing.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say, how many times have you seen it at this point then?
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, I watched it loads.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: It was like one of my most watched DVDs, and like weirdly, I watched it I've watched it quite a lot as an adult as well.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: I actually I posted about it and I made my friends watch it, um, because they did kind of like it, these guys that I was friends with, and I was like, that's watch cat in the heart, and we watched it like last year, I think, and it was funny, and then I brought it up the other day and I was like, oh my god, like let's watch Cat and the Heart.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: And they were like, Molly, like we did that like a year ago, like we're not doing that again.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: But I'm like, alright, I'll do it on my own then.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: Um I I think I did, it was one of those ones as well, like you know, one of those DVDs that you watched while you went to sleep?
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like you just kept it on, and it also had like the most irritating like DVD like opening, like it was it loud and it talked.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: So it was like the two.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: Well, I don't know that about that one, but like all those DVD openings were so like I remember falling asleep to them and like waking up to the opening again.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: It was just Yeah, and it was like a horrific like a nightmare.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Like it was hard.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: I remember the Shallow Howl one being Yeah, this one was horrendous.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: The Shallow Howl one was bad.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: It was like Jack Black Black's face, like zooming in and out.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: But this one was like one of them ones that like it haunts me, but weirdly, it was like the only thing I could fall asleep to.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: Like I have the arrested development one in my head over and over.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: Like that's the one I used to fall asleep to.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I had them on DVD as well.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: I do kind of miss that.
- 11:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: Like, because now, like, when you watch something like on Netflix or like on your laptop, it just ends.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: You wake up and there's nothing, it's kind of sad.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Just I just want some strange loop, like, so I don't have to listen to my own thoughts.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Uh so this this movie is yeah, it stars Mike Myers as the cat in the hat.
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: It's also got Spencer Breslin, Dakota Fanning, Alec Baldwin, Kelly Preston, Sean Hayes.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: It's got a huge cast.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: Huge cast.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: And then it was written.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: Do you know who it was written by?
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: I don't actually.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: I know the director.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: Is it the same guy who directs?
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: It's not the same guy who directed it.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: It's not the same director it's not as the same director.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: So Bo Bo Welch is the director, and it's the only film they've ever done.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, that makes sense.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: I think he did he not work on production of like Tim Burton stuff.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: Oh, possibly.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: It's the only film he's ever directed.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: I think that's why it's aesthetically quite nice.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: Very like Tim Burton.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: Aesthetically, this this movie is great aesthetically.
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's a uh it looks like he's a production designer on loads of stuff.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: Loads of really good things.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: Men in Black, uh Thor, uh, series of unfortunate events, Edward's Scissor Hands, Bo Batman Returns, Beatles, yeah, all the Tim Burton stuff.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Um not so good with uh scripts.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: Well, it's not even his script, so I can't even fault him for that.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, right, yeah, who who doubt who wrote it then?
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: So it's Alec Berg, David Mandel, and Jeff Schaefer.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: Now, these three, they wrote they wrote on Seinfeld.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: No way.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they wrote on Seinfeld, they wrote um one of they wrote, I believe David Mandel is the guy that's the showrunner for Veeep.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: Um, oh my god.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: Alec Berg made Barry.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: Um David Mandel.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: I think they also wrote all wrote Euro Trip together.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: No way.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: I told you this film is good.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: Curb your enthusiasm.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: No way!
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's just baffling that they they this was at the same sort of time as well this c this would have come out a year before Eurotrip, right?
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: I think.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: Or did you say that?
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'd say so.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: I'd say so.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, as if you know what?
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: Because I wondered if I've never looked into this, but I always wondered if a lot of it was like because the dialogue is weird because like if it's not my the cat like Mike Myers, it's quite bizarre.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: Like there's like some really weird lines from the mum and like um there's a lot of repetition and stuff, but like I think like the Mike Myers bits just kind of all feel like SNL sketches, and I thought I didn't know if it was like him like in like with improv doing improv or like just his or he wrote those because it always feels it feels very different to the rest of it.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: Well this is what I was reading about it though, like apparently like his Mike Myers, first of all, he didn't want to do this, um he didn't like the script at all, and he was contract contractually obliged to do it though because of like some like I don't know, I guess to get like the Austin Powers stuff and like all the other things he was doing.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: Um so he was stuck making this basically, and then like he didn't get on with anyone on set and like didn't talk to any any person at all except for the director.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: He like refused to talk to anyone.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: Why though?
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: Is he just being a drama queen?
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, yeah, but uh to be fair, I feel like Alice Baldwin would be annoying.
- 15:20unknown: Yeah.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: Alice Baldwin would be annoying.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Uh but then it says like he Yeah, so basically there was all that going on, but then he was just like I guess he was making stuff up for himself and like only talking to the director about what he was going to do.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: Like nobody else knew it, I guess.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because I feel like probably the thing that doesn't work about it is there's not much like you know, there's not a much connection with the characters at all, really.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: Like nothing.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: It just feels like Mike Meyer's just being silly, and like I really like that.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Some people don't really like like like his humour or whatever, but I love that.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: And like because he's not even like got really got a nay, I don't even know what his character's about, like he just does silly voices, and I'm like, that's so interesting.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: Well, basically, like this movie well, the book itself is 1600 words, and then this obviously this movie is what like 70 something minutes.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: So, first of all, it's a very short movie, it's like 75 minutes, maybe something like that.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: Uh, but to drag even to drag out 1600 words into 75 minutes is like that's where something's gone wrong there, basically.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: They obviously didn't know how to stretch it out.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Definitely, because it there's hardly any plot anyway, isn't there?
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: But it's it's nothing.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, nothing to this movie.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: The the li there is not like I don't really know who who is the protagonist, really, or who's the good I don't know what we learn.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: Well it's the kids, I guess, isn't it?
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but because they're so the the kids are quite boring in it though, that I don't feel any emotion with them.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Like there's no one that you really like.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm saying this as I really like the film because I really like it for its silliness, but it's the s the story, like I there's no one that I'm really like sympathized with or like I I I'm even following, like they're just kind of like a fake Barton Lisa.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: Um well you're not but did you not find that when you were what 11 years old then that you were that you uh attached to one of them more than the other one?
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: Did you not attach to Dakota Fanning's character at that time?
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: No, she was she was way too uptight and like like cleaning and stuff.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: I was like lame.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: So you weren't so you weren't in you weren't that kind of kid, but you were just I was I was more Conrad, I think.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I would probably say I was more Conrad.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: I was just more into into the cat in the hat.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: Like I wanted to be him.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: Like Yeah, well that makes sense.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah you did get into comedy afterwards That is why I I got into Commodore like when I saw Mike Myers as the cat in the hat, I thought, fuck, how do I do that?
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: And yet you didn't get into clowning.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: No, no, I'll go a different way, I'll find a way.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Do you know?
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Imagine if that that's how life works out with finally a remake, a cat in the hat.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, if you were the cat.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: That would be that would be a die.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: Well basically, do you know what I read about this as well though?
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: One of the other things I read about this was that the the estate of uh Dr.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: Zeus, when they saw this movie, they were like so angry with it, like how bad it was, that they said, You will never do another live action version of one of our stories again, and that's why there's not been a live action version of any of his books since.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: No way!
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: That is it is horrific though.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: It's like cats, like hum human like animals, like human cats, like just anything like that is just terrifying and creeper.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: Um but I think that's why it adds to it.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: Um because I I I'm I'm very convinced that this film is essentially just a metaphor for like taking acid.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: It feels it, yeah.
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: Well that's what all the Doctor Zoo stuff feels like anyway.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: And if you were gonna make a film like that, then they would have to be creepy looking.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: Like it if when you if you were to take LSD, people are gonna look like cats, like as in the cats the musical rat rather than like a cute, like animated thing.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: Like you have to feel a little bit scared, you know.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: But I feel like they got that purple.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: It also said that like a lot of the adult humour in this film was meant for the Grinch how the Grinch style Christ Christmas, but Ron Howard cut that out of there.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: So I don't feel like there's a lot of adult humour in this though.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: I feel like there's a little bit, but like Yeah, it's like really like daft like toilet humour.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: There's there's that bit where like he looks at the picture of his mum and like it's like a boner joke and his hat goes big.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, um, and then there's bits where he's like son of a bit, and everyone's like, ooh, like you know, like stuff like that, really.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: I feel like that that feels like just Mike Myers riffing though, yeah, for sure.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: And like I I just love that like Mike Myers can just kind of say like he'll just like say like hello when it's like fun.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: Like he just does like a silly laugh and you're like ho.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Like, um but it is literally just just that I don't think there's anything like too bad, really, but I mean at the same time, like everything was doing that in the 90s anyway.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: Like, this is just as afraid, like that was like peak children's anime and like you had the Simpsons and stuff.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: I feel like that was quite yeah.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: I think it's quite tame for what it could have been.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: Like what they could have done with it He could have like he could have definitely gone full on like Mike Myers Austin Power like Wayne's World Austin Powers style.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: And like really over the top, but like they they tone they definitely toned him down.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Um that's the s that's the version I want to say that X-rayed uh sorry, I just noticed a bit a thing about the DVD uh thing.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: I'm just reading about it, because you were talking about the DVD earlier.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Um widescreen disc shows an image of the fish looking out of the fish bowl with a worried look, and the full screen shows the cat peeking out.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: Nothing that interesting.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: I think there was a bit where like the ki the actually another thing that one thing I don't but like about this film, actually, I don't like the fish.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: The fish is annoying.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: Did you notice that it's also Sean Hayes?
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: Like the same it it's him as a.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: Is it?
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: That's just lay that's just laser.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: Like I didn't even realise it doesn't sound like him.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: Or maybe No, it doesn't.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: But the fish has got it.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Doesn't it?
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Mmm, true, true.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: Maybe the mum's like on acid and that's what she's imagining.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it it's so clever.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Well, I think Alec Baldwin and the kids have taken acid, and that but they're having the huge Oh, that's so awful.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: The kids are tripping.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the kid the kids are tripping, but they're fine at the end.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: You know, they come out of it, everything's fine, everything's normal.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: But like Alec Baldwin is like the one that like the odd person that gets like fucked up because like he's like covered in gungeon, he's like insane, and then the mum's like, oh get rid of him.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: So like Yeah, I'm coming because I feel I'm pretty sure they're the only three people that see the cat.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: The kids and Alec Baldwin.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they are just nobody, yeah.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: Nobody ever acknowledges the cat except for those three.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I think that they are the three of them are just tripping balls.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: I'd I'd love to do acid while watching this film.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: Like that'd be any.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: Do you think that this absolute nightmare?
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: I bet it would be I bet it would be amazing.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: I feel like never mind like doing it out in nature, like you should just do it watching kind of.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: You gotta do that, you gotta watch this and then on a double bill with cats as well.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Yes, oh my god.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: Do you know what?
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: I I did I did mushrooms once and I watched uh I immediately decided to watch um the live action Popeye.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: Oh no.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Because I thought that would be like kind of funny, like in this cat, but it it's it's not it's not funny, like you you think oh this is gonna be so funny, but it terrified the life admit.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: I was I was scared, I was crying, and we had to turn it off and I had to.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: Do you know the lore about that one?
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: About that when they were making that, that every single person was on cocaine like the entire time.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: No way.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: Maybe I could sense it.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: That is yeah, I had no idea.
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: That's the vibe of that one.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: That's not it's not a mushroom movie.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's an intense, like, yeah, that yeah, it was too much it was it was horrific.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: It I was convinced they were speaking Russian through the whole thing.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know if we were watching that I don't know if we were watching the wrong one because I was loving Russian club as well.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: But I kept asking my friends and they were like, no, they're not, but like I don't know.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: Um and then I looked at my friend and he started to turn into Popeye, like in muscles, but like in a creep in like a creepy way.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: It was it was horrendous.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: So saying that I don't think I want to do that to uh to cat in the heart at all.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because that's even that is more normal that that looks more normal than this one.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's not really it's not really that weird in the scheme of things, but it was nightmare fun.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: Like it was it was horrible.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: Oh, now I really want to see you do LSD and then watch this.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: I I'll have to do it at some point in my life.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: Like once I get to a certain low, I think it's like it's time.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: So you did you grow up as a big like Mike Myers fan then?
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I loved Austin Powers.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: Currently I'm on my laptop and my background is of Austin Powers.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: Is it?
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, goal, goal member wallpaper.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: I love it, love it.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: Um yeah.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, I was a big I was a big uh big Austin Powers fan, liked Wayne's World.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: Um I only recently watched uh So I Married an Axe Murderer, but I like it.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, that's great.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: And I I only re Yeah, I only watched it not that long ago, but like I really, really liked it.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: It's pretty underrated.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, definitely.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: I couldn't believe how good it was.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: Like I really didn't expect to like it was just so silly, like it was just it was I really enjoyed it.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, I and I feel like it gets a bad rap, Matt Myers.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: Like people I feel and I feel like that's kind of why you know they did the Love Guru and then it kind of yeah, I mean that wasn't that good.
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Love Guru is awful.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it's it's not good, but like I feel like he still did like a lot of good films, and like obviously it makes a great Shrek and stuff, but like I feel like people Yeah, but I feel like people are always like are calling him, like everyone loves Jim Carre, and you never meet like a Mike Myers super fan.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: That's true, yeah.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: You really don't actually thinking about that.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: No.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's so strange.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: I think he does do like a lot of the similar characters.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: Like so, I suppose they get a bit reductive.
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: I think like I don't know.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: I like it when he's Yeah, I guess I guess when he's not playing like I don't like well, I didn't like this movie, and I didn't like I don't like the love guru, so I guess I don't like the like very over-the-top style characters, but I like the the ones that are a little bit more grounded, like Wayne and uh Austin Power.
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: Well, I say grounded Austin Powers, he's not grounded, you see.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: But you know what I mean, like a little bit more realistic.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, definitely.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, I again like you say you you say you've got a gold member background.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: I haven't seen I haven't seen those movies in I wanna say like 15 years.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Yanis, you need to go back to them.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Like this these still hold up.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: Like people are gonna be listening like, no, they do not.
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: The thing is, I don't I'm scared to go back to them because I feel like they're gonna feel really dated.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: They do feel dated, but like in a really like nice, nostalgic way, I find.
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: So it's not like it's like it's gone past the point of because there was the point of it just being like entirely everyone's everyone was quoting it all the time.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: It got ridiculous.
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: And like I think that's where people got sick of him and sick of him, to be honest.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, that's so true.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, even like Shrek, like Shrek was so popular to the point that like do you know you always watched it in school, like that they kind of hated it after a while.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: Like we always watch Shrek when it was like, you know, like the end of term or whatever, and it got to a point where like if anyone like spoke of Shrek or like quoted it, and it's the same with Austin Powers, but then that does show us like how popular they were, really.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: They were they were huge.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: But Austin Powers also had like sick cameos in and like good songs.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: Like they had they had the Brit the Brittany uh song, like Boys, they had Beyonce with with um what's that song?
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: Work It Out.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: Work It Out and and they had Madonna, what which was it what song does she do in it?
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: Oh she does um Beautiful Stranger, Beautiful Stranger, yeah.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: So cool.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: Like you can't you cannot get better, like I think well, yeah.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: I've I'm gonna have to go back and rewatch them.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: I think I think they'll I think I'll enjoy at least the first and probably the second one.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I'll enjoy Goldmember still.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: Goldmember is my favourite one, like of course it is.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: Like I love it, I just mean it's so good.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Like, Beyonce should have got an Oscar for that.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: She was so good.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: Like for what?
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: What does she be doing it?
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: She just was so hot and cool, you know.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: Like I just um I just talked about uh have you seen the Pink Panther with her?
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: We were just it was just the episode last week, and it was we were talking about her and like how she has about five lines in the movie, and it was the last thing she like really did before as her acting career.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, I completely forgot she was involved in that.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: That's so strange.
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: But she barely does anything.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, God, what what a what a film career she's had.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: And that came out the same month as Dream Girls.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: Which is wild.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: Well, Dream Girls was amazing.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: Has she done what was the last film she did?
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: Like Oh, okay.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: But it doesn't I don't that's but it's just a voice, isn't it?
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: So Yeah, yeah.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: She is good.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: Bring Beyonce back.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: To the screen, to the big screen.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: But uh yeah, anyway, back back to the cat and the hat though.
- 30:29SPEAKER_02: Like uh it's uh I've I've taken it on the tangent, but like back to the cat and the hat, it's um so let's try and explain the plot if we can.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: Oh my, oh my.
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: Um it's do you do you wanna try?
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: You've seen it more I've only seen it the once, and last it was only last night.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: Okay, right, I'll give it a go.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: Okay, so there's a family, a single mum, two kids, and the mum works in a hand sanitizing uh place.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: See, ahead of its time.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: No, she doesn't work in a hand sanitizing place.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: He's just the guy is just like very into hand sanitizing.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: It's a it's an estate agent.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: Wait, does it not sell hand sanitizer?
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: No.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: Oh okay.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: Well, I am I've I'm I'm not as I'm not as up to date with it.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: I thought I knew everything about this film and I've been proven wrong.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: I feel she works.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: There's no there's no indication they say.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: She's a realist Right, okay, okay, okay.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: Well, but they're oh he just likes hand sanitizer, that's it.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's a germophobe, that's it.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true, that's true.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: There's no indication about like they don't talk about property at all.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just a green, they just work in some big, like green, nice but building.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: Um and he's cleaning his hands a lot and uh and he invit She's gotta have do some work thing where he's like gotta come round for some like work event or work.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: I think this is what it's I think this is the only indication that it's that about the the estate agents is that they're doing like a viewing or something.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: I don't know, something like that.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so she's gotta like get the room nice, the living room nice, especially.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: Um, because there was something previously done and the house was a mess.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: Um so she's also going out with Alec Baldwin, like who's supposed to be hot in this film, which is really weird.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: Like you're supposed to think he's hot, like he's like teeth are shining and stuff.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Um which she's later revealed that he's like got a belly and he like fingers his belly button.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: Um which I which I honestly think he looks hotter like that than oh no, Molly, you look disgusting.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: He's keeping it real, you know.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: He looks revolting like that.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: But um, but yeah, he's going out of she's going out of Ali Bob.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: Can we speak about the man who whose name we can't say?
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Can we speak about Alec Baldwin?
- 32:58unknown: I don't know.
- 32:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we can talk about him.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: Like we've cancelled and we cannot bring up Mr.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: Baldwin.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: Um you said his name like 14 times already.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I have.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: I seem like his biggest fan.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: Um but but Alec Alec Baldwin, just saying it again.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: Um Alec Baldwin uh tries to get rid of the son by saying that to send him to military school because I think it's like some kind of thing that he wants the wife to himself or whatever.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: He's just like a bad guy, basically.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: He's trying to get basically he's trying to send him to military school so he can get like the wife and then he can get the money, basically, because he's put he's broke.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: He has nothing to do.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's a big loser who's like trying to look like he's got his life together.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: I I feel like that right now in my little Ched Carner, like pretending I'm not I don't the mess that is here that nobody knows.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: I feel like Alec Baldwin, and I do put my finger on a belly button sometimes.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: I've got like an abnor I've got abnormally like innie, like I can get like half a button.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like it's just like really it goes in loads.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: Like I can get loads of my finger in that.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Oh god.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: Oh god.
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: You'd have to tell us that.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: No, well, that the more you know, the more you know.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: Um anyway, um so they she gets a babysitter to look after him, but classic, the babysitter just immediately falls asleep.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: Mrs.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: Quad icon.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: Um falls asleep, they just start being like a bit naughty, like jumping around.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: The cat just like appears out of nowhere for like no reason, really.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's no reason for it at all.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: That's what really confused me.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: I thought there was gonna be some logic to it.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: There's not.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: There's there's no logic.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: It's it's just there messing about, and then they don't they sign a contract to say like I to promise to have a day of fun.
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: They sign a giant contract.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: Because they test he test them, he tests them, doesn't he?
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: And they uh one of them is like too uptight uh Dakota Fanny's character who she like always played at this age as well.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: She always played that character.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: And then uh Spencer Breslin is the like the naughty one uh who messes about too much and he's like I can't remember what they call him.
- 35:23SPEAKER_02: They say I've got it written down somewhere.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, they call her a control freak.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: She gets labeled as that as the fun on the fun ometer.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: She's a control freak and he's a rule breaker.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so it's kind of like they've got a I mean, is is the plot of the film that you have to just be in the middle somewhere?
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: It's like have fun but be good about it, I think.
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 35:47SPEAKER_02: Is it?
- 35:47SPEAKER_02: Because they're not even good about it.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: No, no, I feel like that's not that good of a of a lesson, is it?
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: Like, just just be somewhere in the middle.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: But um but they sign they sign this contract, then they just like they just like mess about, they make and and then there's like wait, hang on.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: There's then there's just like a box that appears.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the box.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: Thing one and thing two appear, there's a box it opens that has like a mad or other dimension in it.
- 36:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's where he came from.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: Yes, and they lose the lock because it's stuck on the dog for some reason and the dog runs away.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: So they have to like find the dog.
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: Like it's like I love how we're telling the entire pl in about five minutes.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: It's like if you made up a film, if you were like five if you were in class, someone was like, make up a film, and then you're like, and then this happens, and then like there's no, it's so nonsensical and random, and like uh so then they go running after the dog.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: Um, oh, but then they go in, there's a party next door, and it's beans from even Stevens, who's always yeah, I wrote down, I wrote down beans, yeah.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: Beans, like what a legend.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: That is one of the reasons this is a good film.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: You've got beans.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: Stephen Anthony Lawrence.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: I've got him on Facebook with Facebook Friends.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: You've got him on Facebook, not Dovin's a Prague, but I've got beans from Facebook.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: You don't even have me on Facebook, you've got beans.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: And and uh I've had him on there for about since I was in high school.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: Like, I found him like on Facebook, and I feel like we don't like with there probably is some like message history there from all these times, but like he's one of those people like you'll occasionally I mean I don't really use Facebook anymore, but you'll put a Facebook status and he'd like it, and then maybe he'll he'll like m I like his, and I felt like we were friends because of that.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: Like we never we didn't really speak.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: He used to like your Facebook status instead.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: Occasionally, maybe like two to be fair.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: Like maybe I'm I am playing this up.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: But I was like, yeah, well, me and me and beans, and like but I did start annoying him because I'd add him to like silly group chats.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: Do you know where you're you know where you've got like random people in there and you're just like spam it?
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: And I was probably you know way too old to be doing that.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: And I would add beans and he'd he he would immediately leave, but he never deleted me or anything, so I always felt like he's just like oh classic mollet, what's she like?
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: Um no.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: I should.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: I should, what should I put?
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: I don't mean literally in a second, but yeah.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: Now I want to move.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: I feel like I should.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: I feel like because he might reply like while we're doing the like imagine, like Stephen Imagine if I haven't got him anymore.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: No Where is uh No, I have I have there he is.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: Thank God for that.
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: Message him saying I'm on the I'm on a podcast about cat in the hat right now.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: Any memories?
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: By the way, there's only one there's only two things I've ever messaged him.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: Um so in 2016 I messaged him saying, Hey, do you want I thought, hey, do you want to come to a party tonight?
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: And he put and he put, you do know I'm in California, right?
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: And then I never replied.
- 39:14SPEAKER_01: God song the podcast That's the only thing.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: That's it, but we did like our I think that we did like each other's statuses anyway.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: Like that's okay to tell us that.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: I'm on a podcast.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm telling him guys, we're getting this is you're getting live uh I don't know.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: This is uh on a podcast about cat in the heart at the mow.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: Any memories of it?
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: Right, that's say.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, he's active now, so maybe that right.
- 39:47SPEAKER_01: This is iconic, right.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: I'll leave my phone and we'll say like it is yeah, come on, beans, come on.
- 39:55SPEAKER_01: Um but anyway, be Beans uh is next door and like is just like hitting him like a pinata.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: Um and and Alic Baldwin steals a dog.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: Um and then the only way they get the dog back is by the cat acting like a a white guy with dreads.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: It's weird.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's like it's it's it's just not really it's not like a plot device, is it?
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: Like it doesn't make any it's just like oh I just I'll just be this other character.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: And then they and they get the dog, but then they go to the house, and the house has turned into like another dimension, like, and yeah, they they they use the babysitter as a boat to like and then they lock the door, they lock the box.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, he's ringing me!
- 40:41SPEAKER_02: He's ringing you.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: Hang on.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: Hello?
- 40:45unknown: Hey Marlene.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: Hey, hey uh Steven, how you doing?
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: Good, good, good.
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: I actually do got a good can the hat story for you.
- 40:54unknown: You're ready?
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, hang on, can you can you hear this?
- 40:58SPEAKER_02: I could hear it, yeah.
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: But you can't hear me, I don't think.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, Steven, if you've got a good can and the hat story, that'd be great.
- 41:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I got I got a good one for you here.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: Uh not many people know about this, so this is gonna be a fun story.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, so we shot it on uh the universal backlog there, right?
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:17SPEAKER_00: So uh what we would do uh like uh what we do during lunch and dinner if we had like a nice shooter.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: Like Spencer and I we we'd like jack a golfer and get our get our dinner and then we'd go eat lunch or dinner in the the like the psycho house, right?
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: Or like the house where they shot psycho house.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 41:35SPEAKER_00: So, you know, you know, the rumor has it that that the set is still really haunted and and shit, so you know, we're we're we're sitting there eating dinner, kind of freaking ourselves out.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: Then we hear this loud bang from upstairs.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: So we're like, oh shit.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: So like we we just leave our dinner, we we run back to the golf round I'm like Florida, right?
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: And uh uh we we drive through the jaws exhibit there for the tram ride.
- 42:03SPEAKER_00: You know, the there's like this uh during the tram ride, there's a part where they go through this big ammo uh amity uh island thing.
- 42:11SPEAKER_00: Uh and uh uh the sensor goes off and like the thing starts flooding and the jaws pop, something goes wrong.
- 42:19SPEAKER_00: I was thinking since it was so late at night, you know, they had the exhibit turned off since the park was off.
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: Well, that wasn't the case.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: So uh I'm driving through the exhibit, uh I set the sensor off and on the platform starts dropping, water starts flowing in, jaws is coming at us attacking.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 42:39unknown: So I ended up wrecking a golf cart on the back lot.
- 42:43unknown: Run run back to set and like, you know, waste my water before I get back and and Wardrobe's like, why the fuck are you all wet?
- 42:53unknown: Don't ask.
- 42:54unknown: Okay.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that's I gotta that's a good cat has to report.
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: Did you get in triple?
- 43:03SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: It was uh we uh I don't know if they saw it on camera, they probably did, but uh, probably will now, but uh so yeah.
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: Thanks, Steven.
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: We got some like actual like seek Hollywood secret right there.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: There's your there's your little Holly weird secret.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: Yannis, have you got anything you want to add to this?
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: Uh no, I don't think Steven can hear me.
- 43:35unknown: That's it.
- 43:35unknown: It was it was such a cool set to work on.
- 43:38unknown: Um yeah, Mike Myers didn't trust me with a real bat.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: Um, so we had to use a fake one to protect our batteries.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: What a busser.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: What was Mike Myers like?
- 44:00unknown: He was cool, cool guy, you know.
- 44:01unknown: Uh actually a little reclusive, but still very pleasant to be around, very nice, a you know.
- 44:07unknown: But you know, it's it's a stuff.
- 44:08SPEAKER_02: That's what it was say.
- 44:09SPEAKER_02: Like I he can't hear me uh if you tell him that work, you know.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it said it in the in the trivia about him not not talking to anyone and we wanted to know if it was true.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it said on the uh Yanis is I don't you can't hear him because I've got it's in my head in my I've got headphones in, but uh we were saying that on the you know on the trivia on the IMDB, it said that like he was quite like reclusive and didn't really speak to anyone on set and stuff.
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah, yeah, but you know, uh he was very professional, you know, nice guy, nice you know, but yeah, you know, it's a it's a set.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: We're there to work that kind of mess around muck around muck around like Spencer and I crashing golf cards in the in the in the Jaws exhibit.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: So I love that.
- 44:50SPEAKER_01: Well we're talking about it because I love Kyan Hart.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: It was like one of my faves.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: And um I'm just kind of explaining what makes it so iconic, basically.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, um Yeah, it was just it was a cool set to work on, you know.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: Uh like some of the set I mean they they they had a hand built all you know, all it off uh you know, they had a hand built it obviously.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: And you know, they still have a lot of that stuff there to this day.
- 45:19SPEAKER_01: Oh really?
- 45:21unknown: Yeah, the Doctor Seous Christmas thing is still there.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: Oh wow still there.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: So yeah, you know.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: Oh amazing.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: I will go one day.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: You will you will, you will.
- 45:34SPEAKER_00: You'll see that Jaws exhibit and be like, oh, this is where Beans crashed that golf card.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: Well, thank you so much, Steven.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: This has been great.
- 45:46SPEAKER_02: Thank you, Steven.
- 45:47unknown: Yeah, that's it, Molly.
- 45:48unknown: Well, hey, thank you so much.
- 45:50SPEAKER_00: I I kind of gotta run, but just wanted to share that with you.
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: You take care and you have a good one, everybody.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, I appreciate that.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: Take care.
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: Take care, baby.
- 45:57SPEAKER_01: Bye.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: Oh Molly! That's mad.
- 46:05SPEAKER_01: That was amazing.
- 46:06SPEAKER_02: That was not one of the things.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: We just got beans involved.
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 46:13SPEAKER_01: I was quite nervous.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: Like, I was like, no, you were nervous.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: Having a chat with beans, I was like, you know, we're friends, but we're not really like it's like my statuses, but we've never had a chat.
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: He was so friendly.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: He was so friendly.
- 46:29SPEAKER_01: Maybe you can keep ringing him, like he's having a bad, a bad day today.
- 46:34SPEAKER_02: Like and the fact that he called himself fiends as well.
- 46:38SPEAKER_01: I know, I love it, I love it so much, legend.
- 46:42SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 46:43SPEAKER_01: What a great.
- 46:45SPEAKER_01: I know, I love it.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 46:51SPEAKER_01: We can't we can't beat that now.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: No, we can't.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: I don't even know what's going on.
- 47:00SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, that story's so funny.
- 47:02SPEAKER_02: Like I I I guess I forgot that they he was the same age as he would have been about about the same age as Spencer Breslin, so like they obviously they were gonna hang out together.
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like just getting up to up to no good.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 47:15SPEAKER_02: They would have been like he's about I think he's about the same age as me.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: I feel like.
- 47:21SPEAKER_01: Should we have a look?
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to find him on here.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: What a nice Stephen Anthony Lawrence.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: Stephen Anthony Lawrence.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: Thirty-one.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: Thirty-one.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, he's younger than me.
- 47:38SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, he's a year a year and a half younger than me.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: I can't remember.
- 47:43SPEAKER_01: He was in so many.
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: He was like the kid of that time, like Yeah.
- 47:49SPEAKER_02: Oh, he's filming something at the moment.
- 47:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, is there?
- 47:54SPEAKER_02: He's filming a horror film at the moment.
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, we need to get well it we're friends with him now.
- 48:03SPEAKER_01: Obsessed.
- 48:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: Um oh it was the plot.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: We were talking about the plot, weren't we?
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can't it's oh, I I don't even know.
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: I don't even know.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: Oh he I can't remember.
- 48:14SPEAKER_01: I'm so stabbed.
- 48:16SPEAKER_02: You were talking you have met so many people like and you're still Star Trek now.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know, but this is on a different level.
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: Like you could I've met Lady Gargar and I wasn't this nervous.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: This is beans from even Stevens, like yeah, because it's your childhood.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is kind of the heart, like um what were we say?
- 48:45SPEAKER_02: Where were we?
- 48:46SPEAKER_02: We we were talking about the he he takes the dog, and then like oh yeah, he we're talking about Mike Myers doing the weird like character where like the uh the the white guy with dreads.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: Oh yes, of course, yeah.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, because then there's also a scene where I think it's around that time where they like go into like a phone box or something, and then they all go down like a stripper pole, and then like a nightclub, and Paris Hilton.
- 49:13SPEAKER_02: Paris Hilton, yeah.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: I was like, why is she there?
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: Amazing, and for some reason everyone's got the cat in the hat hat on, which because he gets the hat mixed up.
- 49:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he gets the hat mixed up, but then it like doesn't lead to anything.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah! That doesn't even matter anymore.
- 49:30SPEAKER_01: Like oh my god, but yeah, I love um that that show that shows it's definitely gotta be like a an LSD trip.
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: Like, how does that's not r normal?
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: Like I mean a lot of the film is a normal like why are they all wearing those hats?
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: Like, it doesn't make any sense.
- 49:51SPEAKER_01: Um and then yeah, so then they get back, everything's normal in the house again.
- 49:58SPEAKER_01: The kids are like, oh.
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: Well no, but the first of all the house is like breaking down and Yeah, but they they lock it, they relock it, and everything suddenly is normal again.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: So and then and then the cat and then they're like, Oh, you know, you've got to go, you're bad news or whatever.
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: And then but then the cat comes back, he leaves, it's a sad moment, but the p cat comes back with this like machine that cleans the house, and you they do like a clean it there's a scene where um a montage scene of them cleaning, and this is amazing for the case.
- 50:32SPEAKER_03: Thing one and two though.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but there's a smash mouth song, and it's a cover of Get Better by the Beatles.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: Like, how iconic is that?
- 50:42SPEAKER_02: That was a Smash Mouth version?
- 50:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was Smashmouth singing the Beatles.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: Like, I feel like that's like a metaphor for the film.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, because it's like this cult book.
- 50:55SPEAKER_01: Like the the book is the Beatles, and the film is Smashmouth.
- 51:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's that tracks.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and in and in some ways I prefer Smashmouth, like you know of course again that tracks.
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 100%.
- 51:16SPEAKER_02: Um one thing I didn't realise until just now, do you know who does the voices of thing one and thing two?
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: No.
- 51:23SPEAKER_02: Homer Simpson.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: No Dan Caspellanetta.
- 51:28SPEAKER_01: No, what yeah, but the how they make any sounds?
- 51:31SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 51:33SPEAKER_01: That's so weird.
- 51:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: No way.
- 51:38SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
- 51:39SPEAKER_01: I still can't get over the fish.
- 51:41SPEAKER_02: Um The fish thing is so weird, isn't it?
- 51:43SPEAKER_02: Because I was I I only found that out because I was looking at the time.
- 51:46SPEAKER_02: I was trying to find out.
- 51:47SPEAKER_02: I was like, I recognise that voice.
- 51:48SPEAKER_02: Where who is that?
- 51:49SPEAKER_02: And I I saw Sean Hayes' Mr.
- 51:52SPEAKER_02: Humberflu slash voice of the fish.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: But that is I like the idea.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: You said like the trippy thing, and it's but the thing is, like, the fish has that well, I suppose Sean Hayes does.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: He sounds quite animated as as like the boss, but as the fish, he's got it's just one of those voices, you know, sometimes where they put like a celebrity as like a voice, as a voice actor, but they've not really got like a distinct voice, so it's quite bland.
- 52:16SPEAKER_01: Like it's kind of like one of those, so it just didn't really.
- 52:19SPEAKER_02: They should have just had Mike Myers do another voice.
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, that would make sense.
- 52:25SPEAKER_02: He did like well, he plays multiple characters.
- 52:28SPEAKER_01: Who do you think's better?
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: Jim Carrey as the Grinch or Mike Myers as the cat?
- 52:34SPEAKER_02: Oh see, I don't like either of those films.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 52:38SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's controversial.
- 52:39SPEAKER_02: Controversially, I don't like either of them.
- 52:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:42SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 52:42SPEAKER_01: Why don't you like the Grinch?
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: I just think it's boring.
- 52:47SPEAKER_01: I think it's overrated.
- 52:48SPEAKER_01: I was never obsessed with it.
- 52:51SPEAKER_02: I just think it's kind of boring.
- 52:52SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 52:53SPEAKER_02: I I think he does more with the Grinch than Mike Myers does with the cat in the hat, but I don't think that's Mike Myers' fault.
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: No.
- 53:03SPEAKER_01: I think Jim Carrey's more like animated with like the way he moves and his facial expressions and like um and I think the character's probably more popular because it's got more it's got more of a character arc, so yeah, you're way more invested.
- 53:21SPEAKER_02: And it's a Christmas movie as well, so like it comes around every year.
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of course, yeah.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: But I think so I don't think there's any way that you know I I think if Jim Carey played the cat, it would be it wouldn't have done better.
- 53:37SPEAKER_01: I don't think uh I don't think it it's really I'm sure I read that Tim Allen was meant to play the cat as well.
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: That's what I was about to say.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: That's exactly what I was about to say.
- 53:45SPEAKER_02: Tim Allen was was cast as the cat, but then had to drop out because of one of the Santa Claus movies, I think.
- 53:51SPEAKER_02: Yes, Santa Claus 2 he was filming.
- 53:56SPEAKER_02: Tim Allen would have been awful.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: Wasn't Conrad in Santa Claus too?
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: He was in one of the Santa Claus.
- 54:03SPEAKER_02: He's in one of them, yeah.
- 54:03SPEAKER_02: Maybe he is.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: Let me check.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: But Tim Allen would have been awful because he's not he is in Santa Claus too.
- 54:12SPEAKER_01: No way, strange.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: That's well that's not a legit reason.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: Conrad could have done it.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: Excuses.
- 54:17SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean, Tim Allen's clearly in it and has like prosthetics.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's a lot more to it.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: Um But Tim Tim Allen would have sucked.
- 54:26SPEAKER_01: Like he's not animated whatsoever.
- 54:28SPEAKER_01: He's not he's he's to be fair, like he's kind of a boring guy.
- 54:32SPEAKER_01: Like you know, home improvement is good and and like Toy Story is good, but like But that he's not like an animated character, is he?
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: Like he's he's just like uh your regular guy.
- 54:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:45SPEAKER_01: Like he's I feel like he just plays that like you know the the guy next door.
- 54:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 54:52SPEAKER_01: Well he's not the Ganness, so but you know, it's nothing to him.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: That would have been that would have been horrendous.
- 54:58SPEAKER_01: Also, he's quite like in Santa Claus, like he's just he's quite sweet, like it I feel like there's a sweetness to him where the cat isn't really meant to be like that at all.
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: So I I can't see him I can't see him being like, you know, a chaotic, like naughty kind of character.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: Well Mike Myers says here was um says that the cat's personality is a composite of Bruce Paltrow, his SNL character Linda Richmond, and actor Charles Nelson Riley.
- 55:31SPEAKER_02: So he like try I don't I Lynn Linda Richmond's the only one I can think of.
- 55:39SPEAKER_02: And that's which is his SNL character, which is the I think it's the let me just check.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: It's the yeah it's the Coffee Talk lady um that he does.
- 55:50SPEAKER_01: He used to do on the I think I read as well that he also did uh Gene Wilder.
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: He tried to do Gene Wilder.
- 55:59SPEAKER_02: That makes that tracks.
- 56:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:02SPEAKER_02: I can see that.
- 56:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah Um which you can see from a certain extent.
- 56:11SPEAKER_01: I can definitely see that But I I do feel like there's only so much you can I feel like he did it really well and I feel like there was only so much you can do with like such a small story.
- 56:24SPEAKER_01: Um like I think the whole thing essentially is like it's good because it kind of just like takes it's like takes the mick out of everything it takes the mick out of like all nighties and and then and also like what comes of the naughty's culture.
- 56:38SPEAKER_01: Like it it's like a parody of pop culture and like ad it probably takes the mick out of product placement and customers in films.
- 56:47SPEAKER_02: He always does that in all of his films though, if you notice that might might he does that in every single one of the film, but I like that as well when you're like kind of winking at the audience about it, like it's fun.
- 56:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love it, and I feel like I feel like things I think it was a bit ahead of its time.
- 57:03SPEAKER_01: Like I think there was more things that kind of parody other things now that are a little bit more popular, where then everyone was like, Well, this is this is a bit too like weird or whatever.
- 57:15SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: I feel like I I really like I think I always because it's very like a it feels like loads of sketches like it does, yeah.
- 57:22SPEAKER_02: I think that's the issue.
- 57:23SPEAKER_02: It's not it's not cohesive, whereas it's like if it if it had a cohesive story, fine.
- 57:29SPEAKER_02: It would have been a lot better.
- 57:31SPEAKER_02: And I think they should have just like I think it comes down to literally just comes down to the story.
- 57:40SPEAKER_02: I don't think it's I think the performance his performance is fine.
- 57:43SPEAKER_02: I think like he does a good performance in this.
- 57:45SPEAKER_02: I I think the kids could be fine.
- 57:49SPEAKER_02: Alec Baldwin, yeah, I could take him out of the story, I don't really care.
- 57:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: We don't we we we of course we need beans.
- 57:59SPEAKER_02: Beans, yeah.
- 58:00SPEAKER_02: We need we need more of his characters.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: We needed more if anything, it would have been better with more.
- 58:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 58:08SPEAKER_02: He was gonna come back for the sequel.
- 58:10SPEAKER_02: It would have been him as the kid.
- 58:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, I would love it.
- 58:13SPEAKER_01: I would love it.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: If I if I get my dream of making cat in the heart, uh Beans can be the Alec Baldwin character.
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: Yes, but better, because he'd be like the adult version, or maybe he can be the cat and I'll be like the hot mum.
- 58:29SPEAKER_01: Because I'm like, actually, I want to be like the hot character.
- 58:33SPEAKER_02: So you don't even want to be the comedic character, you just want to be the hot character.
- 58:36SPEAKER_01: I don't know yet.
- 58:37SPEAKER_01: Now I'm like, oh, that's why I do comedy, and now I'm like just completely changing.
- 58:41SPEAKER_01: But like, if I could just be the hot one instead, that would be better.
- 58:43SPEAKER_02: You could both be thing one and thing two.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: Ooh, like a cute duo.
- 58:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 58:51SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm gonna have to have some words, aren't we?
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: Thing one and thing two annoyed me though, as well.
- 58:59SPEAKER_01: Like, actually bringing them.
- 59:00SPEAKER_01: I find those are they're annoying in that film.
- 59:02SPEAKER_01: I think they should have been played by like more like they could have had like a bigger celebrity, I think, play them.
- 59:09SPEAKER_02: Now they would have done that.
- 59:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think so.
- 59:13SPEAKER_01: But I think in it they were just kind of irritating in in the in the film, I think.
- 59:20SPEAKER_02: I I don't know, yeah.
- 59:22SPEAKER_02: But it's weird that they become the most popular characters from that as well.
- 59:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:26SPEAKER_02: Like if you see them, you see those everywhere now if you go to like Universal or whatever.
- 59:31SPEAKER_01: I think that do they have like a ride or something?
- 59:33SPEAKER_02: I'm pretty sure they do.
- 59:35SPEAKER_01: I remember that when I was in uni and there was like a guy that I was like friends, it was I was doing my master's, there was a guy I was friends with because he was like on my course before, like I knew him, but we weren't like you know, we'd we'd let onto each other.
- 59:50SPEAKER_01: We weren't like particularly best mates.
- 59:52SPEAKER_01: Well, we were just friends.
- 59:53SPEAKER_01: But I remember once someone someone had written like in a cat got us Christmas cards and put thing one in mine and thing two in his.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: Someone was like, Oh, you was a Jew.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_01: I know I was like, huh?
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: Like I didn't even think we were given like thing one and thing two energy.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: Like, I just sort of I'm like, I am you alright, and then that's it.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_02: Did they mean it as like an insult or was it to be funny?
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: I don't know because it was one of those things where you just like I think I just ignored, I think I just ignored it.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_01: I was just like strange.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_01: It is strange, isn't it?
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_01: And I also want that finance thing and one thing too annoying.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_01: I was a bit like, what?
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, why am I giving this energy up?
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_02: Like I say I'd say you don't give off that energy, but like I don't you don't give off the energy now.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: I don't know what you were like at uni.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_01: No, well this was only like three three or four years ago, I think.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_01: Oh, like when I did my master.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so it was like I was like, yeah, I wasn't like a different stranger.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_01: Like it was really weird, like yeah, I was like 27, I think.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_01: Like I was just like, what?
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_01: Do you think that she knew like my like secret love for this film?
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_01: But if she did, then if she did, then that's like even more of an insult, knowing that you're I'm sorry, I'm the main character, I'm the cat.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm not thinking one or thing too.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_02: I like the bottom of the bottom tier characters.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_01: It's like you're saying you're the fish from kind of heart.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_02: You're the Paris Hilton character.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: Alec Baldwin, but only when he's got his belly out.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_02: Oh his big hairy belly with his Yeah.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_01: I wonder if that was his was that prosthetics?
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_01: Or did he just belly out?
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_01: That's gotta be prosthetic.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_01: It probably was.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_01: It was ridiculous.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_02: There's no way he even if he had that, I feel like he wouldn't admit to having it.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, definitely.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_01: I yeah, I reckon that it was real, but like he has pretended it's prosthetics.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: Because he does seem because you know like he wears like one of those things that he pulls off.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_01: Like body uh things.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_01: Like he does seem like the guy, the type of guy that would wear one of those.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, definitely.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_02: It's w one of the other things that's weird, he looks he looks very young in this compared to like in the last he's aged a lot in the last however many years.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_02: Like what is it, like 20 years?
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_02: Almost 20 years now.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's aged a lot.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, definitely.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_01: Definitely yeah, like looking back at it, it makes you realise how long ago it was.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_01: Um But it's still he still doesn't deserve the the heart frob.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_01: Because he is meant to be a bit of a heart frob, because realistically he's meant to look like the perfect guy and then Yeah.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_02: Well, is he supposed to look like the perfect guy or is he supposed to be like what the mum thinks is a perfect guy, but kind of creepy still.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because we still know he's a bad guy, but you could have like a a generically like handsome but like you know, a bit like a John Hammond would have been good.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: Ex that would be very good.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_01: John Hammond would be perfect for it.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_02: And then when he like reveals the belly, that would have been great.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, because then it's more of a shocker that he's got the belly.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_01: Where when Ali Baldwin shows that you're just kind of like, oh right, like Yeah, alright, I can see that.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I I'm not surprised.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_01: Like I said, it I feel like he he looks kind of better like that.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_02: Like Well the thing, this is also like three years before 30 Rock as well, isn't it?
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_02: This is like very soon before 30 Rock, but that I think even in that time between this and 30 Rock he changed a lot.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_01: Different, yeah, that's true.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_02: I don't know, it's weird.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_01: I think how old is he?
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_01: Sixter?
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_02: Sixty-three, so he would have been forty like forty-two, forty-three.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, just his mid-40s basically, he would have been.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_01: Was it was he ever hot?
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_02: People think he was hot around the time of like Beetlejuice.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_01: I I mean, are any of the Baldwins hot?
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_02: Stephen Baldwin Defoe.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_02: Steven, yeah, Steven.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_01: No, he's not, not Steven.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_01: Do you think he's hot or he's a nightmare?
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_02: Do you remember when he's gonna be like, what are you talking about?
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_01: When he was on Do you remember when he was on Big Prophet?
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_01: When he was insane.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_01: That was amazing.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_01: He was so insane.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_01: Like, oh my god.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_02: You talk about the devil on it all the time.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, he's like super Christian, isn't he?
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_01: And like he went, yeah, oh my god.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_01: Hasn't he got a tattoo of like Hannah Montana or something?
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_01: He's like so weird.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_01: Like he got a tattoo that says like Hannah Montana and he did it got it to meet her.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_01: It's so bizarre and creepy, like weird, weird, like uh weird, weird vibes, weird vibes.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, but I did like Biodrome.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_02: I've not seen Biodrome.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_01: That is great.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_02: Is that the Pauly Shaw one?
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah, that's why I haven't seen yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_01: It's not amazing though, like they're not gonna be like cool icons like Stephen Baldwin and Paulie Shaw together, but they tried and it's alright.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_02: Have you seen that clip going around of Paulie Shaw as um what is it, Pinocchio?
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_01: No?
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, I've got to send you it afterwards.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_02: It's so funny.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_02: It's like it's a new it's a new p it's a new Pinocchio coming out, and Paulie Shaw is the voice of Pinocchio.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_02: It's insane.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_01: I see I seen like you know when everyone was doing that, they call me her the Ting Ting song, and they were showing the actors.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_01: I saw he did it and I watched his, and at the end it had like a really tacky Pinocchio, which I just presume Was from like 20 years ago.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize that.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_01: That's coming out.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_02: No, it's a new one.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_01: It looked so like old and like outdated the animation.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_02: Apparently some like Russian production.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I can't wait.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_01: It's like that Sir, you know, did you that Sir Billy?
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_01: That like um who was in that?
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: The guy that died.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: Sir Billy.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: Sir Billy.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_01: And it had um Steve.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_03: That sounds made up.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_01: It's like a really oh my god.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_01: It's what is in it.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_02: I'm looking it up.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_01: Oh it's Sean Connery.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_01: It was his last film before he died.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_01: What?
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_01: And um the anime the animation is like horrendous.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, this looks awful.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_02: This looks worse than that Pinocchio one.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_01: That was imagine making that.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_01: Imagine that being your last film.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_01: It's it's the the actual film is it's even worse.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_01: Like look looking.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_02: It's also got Alan Cumming and Ruby Wax in it.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's bizarre.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know what's going on.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_01: Like what what's going on?
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_01: Why didn't they think that was gonna work?
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_01: I want to watch this.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_02: It's so bad.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's amazing though.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_01: You've gotta watch it.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_01: Like it's so bad as well.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_02: This is what you should watch with your double bill.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_01: Yes, Dafo.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna look this up afterwards.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_02: Um okay, so we kind of we talked about the cat in the hat, you've defended it a lot.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_02: Uh do you have anything else you want to say about it?
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_01: Um I do think that like universally, like it does look aesthetically look nice, right?
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_01: And it never was like, do you know, like in the Tumblr days where people will be posting like um Wes Anderson or like um I don't know, like, you know, like put film stills and they're like, oh my god, the aesthetics and stuff.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_01: Why did no one post Kamaha?
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_01: Like it had the it it has like the best aesthetics, it never had its moment.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_01: Like this is I don't think it ever will.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_01: The colour schemes were unreal.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_01: The outfits were.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_02: The colour schemes are so good in it.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_02: I really I love Mr.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_02: Movie.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_01: I think we need like a we need like a coffee table book of of of uh Kamaha.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_02: Three pages long.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, honestly, I would buy it, I would buy it.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_01: So I would hope so.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_02: Even though, no, that's too much even for me.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_01: I would buy it just to make other people look at it though, like because coffee talk some more just for you forcing it upon someone and for my entire life, that's what I have done.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: Um but um yeah, hopefully we can we can do another one of these once of once we've uh watched it on acid and see what the uh aftermath is.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_01: After we've watched it uh after doing acid, that's what we need.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_01: That that's I may never come back.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_01: I don't think I'll ever be saying I'll be like Alec Baldwin at the end of the film.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're just sitting there picking your belly button.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_02: Okay, so let's let's move on to the final segment then, which is uh the reverse of this, which is do you have a movie that's uh well loved and reviewed by critics and and loved by fans that you think is actually a bad movie?
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_01: Um well I have it I I have a few franchise actually film-wise, finding Nemo.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, it was it just I don't know if I was that good.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_01: It's alright.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_01: Uh I did understand the bit, yeah.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_01: Prefer Shark Tale.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_01: Which I've got to do.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_02: Shark Tale's been defending in here.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_01: That shouldn't even need to be in there.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_01: That like this is that's genuinely a good film, isn't it?
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_01: Is that like seen as like a bad film?
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_03: It is what?
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_01: Well, I prefer Shark Tale 100%.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_01: Um but Fan and Nemo, yeah, it's is I just I don't hate it, but I the hype of it annoys me.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_01: But I also have it with Har Harry Potter, hate hate Harry Potter, despise it, never liked it.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_01: So when everyone was buzzing off Harry Potter, I was yeah, cut in the heart.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_02: No, I and now and now people are turning on it.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, finally, we're finally we're finally and yeah, finally, we're we're understanding it's a bag of shite.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_02: Well, see here's the thing about Harry Potter.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_02: I I really like the books at the time.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_02: I haven't read the books in a long time.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_02: I really like the books.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_02: I never really loved the movies or anything.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_02: I thought they were just fine.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_01: I just felt like there were two I found all the characters very boring.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I I kind of hate any film that's like, ooh, the the posh kid kids in like the boarding school vibes that are ooh, like those films always annoying because the characters never really have anything like quirky or like weird about them.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_02: Like they're always like, you don't feel a struggle with them.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they're just kind of like they've never got anything to them.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_01: Though anything like that used to just immediately kind of bug them.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I get that.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, I'm not not a fan.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_01: And I'm also like that with all I hate like all superhero films.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, all of them.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_01: Just all of them.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_01: I don't they can just get in the bin.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_01: I don't get it.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_02: Do you watch them or do you?
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_01: I'm sick.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_01: I have.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_01: I try and give them a go.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_01: I've tried many times.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_01: The only one I didn't mind is like I don't mind Ant-Man.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_01: It's like a bit funny, so I don't mind it.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_01: And I like that Superman one that was like an an animated.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_01: That was alright.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_02: Oh, that was amazing.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I enjoyed it, but then when when people say it's amazing, I'm like, huh, I don't understand.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_01: I just just I think I like anything that's like because these things are like what is like Harry Potter and like I find a Nemo and superhero films are like the most like amazing things to so many people and it like makes them feel good.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_01: And honestly, those things just repulse my really do.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_02: Like what is your favourite film?
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_01: What is my favourite film ever?
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, let's go.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_02: Do you have some favourite films?
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_01: Um that's really difficult.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_01: Oh, I don't really think.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_01: You know what it I kind of have like silly like shit films that I love, like A Girl of Pleasure.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_01: Like I love I love the Pick of Destiny.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's great.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_01: Pick of Destiny's great, but that it is great, it's amazing.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_01: Um probably probably true romance is my favourite film.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_02: That I can see that with you.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_02: That's a great film.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_02: That that makes sense.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_01: But if it came to like kid like uh or like family film, I don't know, Tenacious D is not a family film, but like if it's like that type of vibe, then that would be something like that.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_02: That makes sense.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah, I understand.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_02: I mean I I really like finding Nemo, but I get I think I probably get why you prefer Sharktail as well.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_02: I can see that.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_01: It's so good.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's got like such an amazing cast.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_01: It's got Scorsese in it.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_02: Like it's I know, that's the funniest thing about it.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_02: It's got Scorsese in it with giant eyebrows as its character.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_01: Amazing, amazing.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_01: There's great soundtrack.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_02: Oh, soundtrack's amazing for it.

- 1:14:46SPEAKER_02: I mean That's the thing, but everyone thinks well, most of the time, like people will come on like, I thought this movie was good, and I looked it up, and it's really bad reviews, and I don't understand why, so that's why they can't want to come on and defend it.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_02: And yeah, and if it's when they're peep when people are passionate about it, it's great.
