- 0:01Speaker 1: One night, a staff member was cleaning up after the
- 0:04Speaker 1: place was closed when they saw a couple doing the
- 0:08Speaker 1: jitterbug on the dance floor. But then before he can
- 0:12Speaker 1: go over and be like, hey, we're closed, Like you
- 0:15Speaker 1: gotta go. You gotta got no jitterbugging on this dance
- 0:18Speaker 1: floor tonight. That's enough of the jitterbug, they disappeared. Can
- 0:22Speaker 1: you imagine if that was like their first dance and
- 0:25Speaker 1: they met that night and then we're together forever and ever,
- 0:29Speaker 1: and their souls were always just doing the jitterbug on
- 0:31Speaker 1: the night this mint, Oh, that's giving me such chills.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Hi Caitlin, Hi Cassie. Hi creepy people, Holly, if you're
- 0:45Speaker 1: new here to a creepy little corner of the world.
- 0:48Speaker 1: This is PNW Hanson Homicides, where we chat about true crime,
- 0:52Speaker 1: the paranormal, and all things creepy, spooking, weird in the
- 0:56Speaker 1: Pacific Northwest. That's what I've heard. We also do a
- 1:01Speaker 1: Tiro reading at the end of every episode for a
- 1:04Speaker 1: little bit of deeper insight into our topic. And we
- 1:07Speaker 1: also call the Pacific Northwest the PNW. If you're nasty, yes,
- 1:13Speaker 1: Cassie insists on it. I just really want people to
- 1:17Speaker 1: know what the PNW means in our name. Yeah, So
- 1:22Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys remember we did an
- 1:25Speaker 1: episode on the mcmhennimu's Crystal Hotel with our friends Shay
- 1:29Speaker 1: and Jody from Rainy Day Rabbit Holes. Yeah you remember,
- 1:33Speaker 1: you remember? I remember, And the Crystal Hotel we kind
- 1:37Speaker 1: of talked about, has like a sister property, which is
- 1:42Speaker 1: the Crystal Ballroom, which is the concert venue in downtown
- 1:46Speaker 1: Portland in the same area. It's like right across the street,
- 1:50Speaker 1: basically like across the street, down the block a little bit, yeah,
- 1:53Speaker 1: from the Crystal Hotel. And I'm going to tell you
- 1:56Speaker 1: about that because it's only natural since we just talked
- 2:00Speaker 1: about the Crystal Hotel to go ahead and just talk
- 2:03Speaker 1: about the Crystal Ballroom. Tell me, Shay talked a little
- 2:06Speaker 1: bit about some of the things and like her experiences
- 2:10Speaker 1: or her mom's experiences at the Crystal Ballroom even too.
- 2:13Speaker 1: So yeah, I might insert because I think I cut
- 2:17Speaker 1: those out of the episode, so I might like insert
- 2:19Speaker 1: those in here and you might just you know, get
- 2:21Speaker 1: a little taste of Rainy Day Rabbit Holes again. Ooh,
- 2:26Speaker 1: I love that taste. The rainbow, the rainbow Hole. Oh well, hey,
- 2:33Speaker 1: it's Pride month Man. Yeah. Yeah, taste the Rainbow rabbit Hole. Ooo. Okay,
- 2:40Speaker 1: So we talked about in the Crystal Hotel episode that
- 2:43Speaker 1: all of the artwork from there was inspired by performances
- 2:47Speaker 1: at the Crystal Ballroom. Yeah. Do you know? You probably don't.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I don't know why I'm asking you this, but do
- 2:53Speaker 1: you know what their slogan is at the Crystal Ballroom?
- 2:56Speaker 1: Oh God, I feel like I should. It's on the
- 2:59Speaker 1: website and everything. It is on any night, anything can happen.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Oh wow, which is like whoa? I mean? Oh, it
- 3:10Speaker 1: is Portland keeping it weird. If you're nasty, if you're creepy,
- 3:15Speaker 1: weird and nasty, you might be welcome at the Crystal Ballroom.
- 3:20Speaker 1: You'd have to be. Yeah. So I've never actually been
- 3:24Speaker 1: into the Crystal Ballroom. I can't remember if you said that,
- 3:27Speaker 1: if you had or not, Yes, yeah, okay, Yeah, that's
- 3:32Speaker 1: it's blasphemy.
- 3:34Speaker 2: It's it's a problem that we are we are going
- 3:38Speaker 2: to work diligently on correcting.
- 3:41Speaker 1: We will fix this. We wow. So but I can't
- 3:44Speaker 1: really speak to this, but I read that it is
- 3:47Speaker 1: quite an inspiring place with its vaulted ceilings, grand chandelier
- 3:53Speaker 1: and de cour and of course the famous dance floor,
- 3:57Speaker 1: which we'll talk about later. So no, no spoiler yet.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Lots of thoughts and feelings.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It looks very much like you would expect any mcmanimon's
- 4:08Speaker 2: location to look like. It's very you know, eccentric, and
- 4:13Speaker 2: but the vaulted ceilings, that's for sure, Like that's it's
- 4:17Speaker 2: so cool in that type of a venue to go
- 4:20Speaker 2: and see a live show. It's a beautiful venue. It's
- 4:24Speaker 2: like obviously kind of also, you.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Know, like I said, eccentric, eccentric and historic histor It
- 4:32Speaker 1: was built in nineteen fourteen as Cotillion Hall what here
- 4:38Speaker 1: de Wertantes were to be formally introduced into the public
- 4:44Speaker 1: for male consumption. Yeah, oh my goodness, I wrote, like
- 4:49Speaker 1: a gag. But yeah, so we all kind of know
- 4:52Speaker 1: what happens that.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean maybe I guess to me, I don't
- 4:57Speaker 2: think of that being something that it's like a part
- 5:01Speaker 2: of the lived experience of anyone outside of like the South. Yeah,
- 5:06Speaker 2: I thought, I guess I'm learning something new that Katillion
- 5:11Speaker 2: was part of history even here.
- 5:14Speaker 1: In Portland, yep, which I didn't I didn't really know either. Okay,
- 5:19Speaker 1: it kind of like reminds me too. I don't know
- 5:21Speaker 1: if it has anything to do with it, but like
- 5:23Speaker 1: how we have the Rose Parade and there's always like
- 5:26Speaker 1: isn't there always like a princess or something of like
- 5:28Speaker 1: the Rose Parade or.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know specific to like any parade if
- 5:35Speaker 2: they're like related, but like you.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Can see where it's like it like the pageantry. Yeah, yeah,
- 5:40Speaker 1: and you know, and yeah, I don't know, they there
- 5:44Speaker 1: could be a little bit of a connection there. Interesting,
- 5:47Speaker 1: I don't know. Anyway, it was a pretty profitable business
- 5:51Speaker 1: until the nineteen twenties when the owner Montrose Wringler, cut
- 5:57Speaker 1: the cotillion crap and started playing jazz music. Do you
- 6:03Speaker 1: have a jazz cigarette? They probably did have jazz cigarettes.
- 6:08Speaker 1: And I don't think people liked it much. We'll get into.
- 6:12Speaker 2: It, okay, Yeah, I mean you know that was sort
- 6:14Speaker 2: of a subversive element at that point.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yeah, And I've heard mentions of like back in this
- 6:21Speaker 1: time when they started dance halls, it was kind of
- 6:24Speaker 1: like illegal to like touch your partner basically, like you
- 6:28Speaker 1: had to had to be like, you know, leave room
- 6:30Speaker 1: for Jesus rules. Oh so when they started playing jazz
- 6:35Speaker 1: and like you know, dancing close and yeah, maybe hitting
- 6:39Speaker 1: some sick some slow jam. Yes, people people weren't. Some
- 6:44Speaker 1: people weren't a fan of it.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Oh man, what is it they say about, like, uh,
- 6:49Speaker 2: I can't remember exactly how it goes, but the song,
- 6:52Speaker 2: you know, bump and grind, Like.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yes, that's what it is.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, yes, I was like, I can't remember
- 7:02Speaker 2: how it goes. All I remember is the bump and
- 7:04Speaker 2: grind part.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Of course, that's all you remember is a bump and
- 7:07Speaker 1: grind part.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Well, I mean arguably that's the memorable part. I'm just saying.
- 7:14Speaker 1: So some people in Portland, believe it or not, believe
- 7:17Speaker 1: that the dance halls were evil them devil worshipers in
- 7:24Speaker 1: those in those dance halls. They wanted them banned from
- 7:28Speaker 1: Portland altogether. And people did actually get together to get
- 7:32Speaker 1: wringlers dance all shut down. Oh my god, I know,
- 7:37Speaker 1: what is this? The town and Footlooths kind of yeah,
- 7:40Speaker 1: this is kind of the town in.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Footloose, I mean like many many years prior to I
- 7:46Speaker 2: think when that story takes place, but still still still.
- 7:51Speaker 1: But one of these people was named Lola Baldwin. I know,
- 7:57Speaker 1: we have another Lola we're going to talk about. Do
- 7:59Speaker 1: you know Lola Baldwin. I mean only in the sense
- 8:04Speaker 1: that I know that there's Ah, yes, you kind of
- 8:08Speaker 1: spoiled it. But we'll let you get away with it, okay,
- 8:11Speaker 1: or you can just cut it out. Oh that's true. Yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 1: maybe we'll see how it works. Or I'll let you
- 8:16Speaker 1: I'll let you say that at the end. Maybe I'll oh,
- 8:19Speaker 1: there you go, because you didn't. I didn't know about
- 8:22Speaker 1: it until I did this research. I learned a lot
- 8:24Speaker 1: about Lola actually from a presentation by her grandchildren and
- 8:30Speaker 1: it was put on by the historian for mcminimons. Wow.
- 8:35Speaker 1: So they videoed this and they put it on YouTube.
- 8:37Speaker 1: So I got to watch it. And I'm gonna say,
- 8:40Speaker 1: Lola's grandkids they might be like, you know, in their nineties,
- 8:45Speaker 1: but they are freaking adorable. Oh they are so cute.
- 8:49Speaker 1: And I could just like listen to them talk about
- 8:51Speaker 1: their lives all day like they love that. It was
- 8:55Speaker 1: so cute. They've got they've got all the good story.
- 8:58Speaker 1: They do have a lot of good stories, and I
- 9:01Speaker 1: didn't include like nearly half of it, you know, like wow.
- 9:06Speaker 1: So if anyone's interested in watching the video obviously, I'll
- 9:08Speaker 1: link it for you, but they do, I might do.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Maybe I'll do patroon bonus on Lola because there is
- 9:16Speaker 1: a ton of interesting information about her. But we're going
- 9:19Speaker 1: to get into a little bit about her right now,
- 9:22Speaker 1: love it? Do it? So many described her, including her grandchildren,
- 9:28Speaker 1: as a stern woman. Yeah, a well meaning, but a
- 9:32Speaker 1: stern woman. Yeah. And they showed pictures of her and
- 9:37Speaker 1: she was very stern. Did she look like the farmer's
- 9:41Speaker 1: wife in the Pitchfork photo? Yes, like literally yes, so intense,
- 9:47Speaker 1: very intense. Yeah. Yeah. And they did show a picture
- 9:51Speaker 1: of her at the very end, a picture of her smiling,
- 9:54Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, okay, so she does have
- 9:56Speaker 1: it in her but for the most yeah, just you know,
- 10:00Speaker 1: it's like a resting face, yes, arresting stern face. Yeah.
- 10:06Speaker 1: We won't call her a bee, we won't disuspect her. Well,
- 10:09Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe I want to hear more before
- 10:12Speaker 1: I decide, right, it's called it might be complicated emotions
- 10:16Speaker 1: about this, So okay, Lola was a fan of things
- 10:19Speaker 1: like prohibition. Obviously I knew. If I knew it, I
- 10:23Speaker 1: can tell by the sternness of her face, and well,
- 10:26Speaker 1: that's what I pictured.
- 10:28Speaker 2: It is like the pictures of the women in all
- 10:30Speaker 2: of the like prohibition like related like articles and stuff
- 10:36Speaker 2: we've I mean, we've talked about it before and I
- 10:38Speaker 2: was like, for.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Shame, yep, yep, she was one of them. But she
- 10:42Speaker 1: was involved in a lot of organizations helping women and girls,
- 10:47Speaker 1: so she was very passionate about that. And she was
- 10:50Speaker 1: concerned about vulnerable young women being preyed upon in the
- 10:53Speaker 1: dance halls. Sure, and that's fair, it's fair. Yeah, sure
- 11:00Speaker 1: that it needed to go to the you know, lengths
- 11:02Speaker 1: of shutting places down. Yeah.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that goes back to, like, instead of
- 11:11Speaker 2: policing what women wear, maybe we raise boys and men
- 11:19Speaker 2: in a way that doesn't make women feel fearful.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Right to walk the street? Right, Yeah you think.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe in the future. I feel like
- 11:31Speaker 2: even now, even now, pretty novel idea.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's pretty out there. And she thought, and I'm
- 11:40Speaker 1: sure a lot of other people, well I don't need
- 11:41Speaker 1: to Like a lot of other people also thought that,
- 11:45Speaker 1: especially in these places playing the evil jazz music, that
- 11:51Speaker 1: this is where it was happening. It wasn't going to
- 11:53Speaker 1: be happening in a place, you know, playing like classical
- 11:56Speaker 1: music or like country music or something was what they thought.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I'm sure this doesn't really need to be said, but
- 12:03Speaker 1: there was also a lot of racism behind that, right.
- 12:06Speaker 1: It wasn't just you know, protecting young women. There was
- 12:11Speaker 1: a lot of racism because obviously, you know, jazz music
- 12:14Speaker 1: is black music, and they were doing anything they could
- 12:17Speaker 1: to shut anything like that down. So, right, but that
- 12:22Speaker 1: was the reasons that Lola gave.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Yeah, well, of course, you know, the first concern should
- 12:29Speaker 2: always be protecting the purity of wat women.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Fat warmen. Yeah, I'm sure they probably didn't care what
- 12:37Speaker 1: was happening if it wasn't white women like disappearing, because
- 12:41Speaker 1: there were women disappearing at this time too, So you
- 12:45Speaker 1: don't say, yeah, almost like.
- 12:48Speaker 2: It's been happening for all of time, since the beginning
- 12:53Speaker 2: of time.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Yeah. In nineteen oh eight, Lola was presented with badge
- 13:00Speaker 1: number thirty three, not only as the first policewoman for
- 13:05Speaker 1: the PPD or the Portland Police Department, but she was
- 13:08Speaker 1: the first policewoman in the whole last country. Oh okay,
- 13:12Speaker 1: I mean good for her. Good for her. I had
- 13:15Speaker 1: no idea like, yeah, we hire the first policewoman.
- 13:21Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not surprised. I think that the first
- 13:26Speaker 2: doctor and lawyer license was also in the Pacific Northwest.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I love that we're so impressive over here, you guys.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I mean, listen before we go to nor Horn too much. Yes, yeh, yes,
- 13:41Speaker 1: and no, we hire the women as policemen who shut
- 13:45Speaker 1: down the jazz dance halls. That's what we did because
- 13:49Speaker 1: racism and misogyny, you know, like ahead of our time
- 13:56Speaker 1: in some respects. And then you know, and Lola was
- 14:02Speaker 1: the one who got Wrigular's dance hall shut down. She
- 14:07Speaker 1: was specifically the person who was like really in on
- 14:10Speaker 1: that place. And I don't know if that's why she
- 14:14Speaker 1: like became a police woman or shut down like that.
- 14:20Speaker 2: She's like, I gotta get the badge and then I'll
- 14:24Speaker 2: get the place shut down.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Yeah, could be that's just the hat rack. She was right,
- 14:31Speaker 1: that's right. But Wrangler the old rascal refused to be
- 14:37Speaker 1: stopped and he moved his dance hall two both. I'm
- 14:42Speaker 1: on a boat, I know, and I was like, wait,
- 14:45Speaker 1: was this the inspo for the dance floor. We'll get there,
- 14:49Speaker 1: we'll get there, we'll get there. Oh my god. But
- 14:54Speaker 1: Lola refused to relent as well, and she also shut
- 14:57Speaker 1: his dance boat down. The She was like, no, you're
- 15:01Speaker 1: swimming out into the middle of the lake to go
- 15:03Speaker 1: shut down their dance party. I think it's a light.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I think she like went through and like looked at
- 15:10Speaker 1: all like the laws and like found one where she
- 15:13Speaker 1: could like point it out and be like, no, you
- 15:15Speaker 1: can't have a dance hall boat.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Oh my god, there it's it's it's on the water. Okay,
- 15:22Speaker 2: Like can we just pretend like international laws because water?
- 15:27Speaker 1: But those young women, she had to protect them. She
- 15:31Speaker 1: just like go on without protecting those young women and
- 15:33Speaker 1: shutting down the dance boats.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Okay, I mean you chase them off from the first
- 15:38Speaker 2: venue and they're like, you know what, that sucks, but
- 15:43Speaker 2: dance boat and they they run over there to the
- 15:47Speaker 2: dance boat, and then she's following them like what be hell,
- 15:51Speaker 2: we we're literally running away from you, Lula La Lula.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Oh. I like to think she had a good heart,
- 16:00Speaker 1: but her grand children that she did. Yeah, I'm sure
- 16:05Speaker 1: she did. But you know, some things can be true.
- 16:08Speaker 1: You could be a real bummer and still have a
- 16:12Speaker 1: good heart. A real buzz kill Lola was, but yeah,
- 16:16Speaker 1: well we'll get her back, don't worry. Also, in this presentation,
- 16:21Speaker 1: the kids they said, as kids they lived on a
- 16:25Speaker 1: houseboat and they would see a double decker dance barge
- 16:30Speaker 1: go by. So it was like this was like an
- 16:32Speaker 1: actual thing, people dancing on boats. And I think it's
- 16:37Speaker 1: still I think it still is slightly a thing.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Well yeah, I mean like the Portland Spirit they do
- 16:43Speaker 2: like boat tours and like dinner cruises and things.
- 16:49Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean I would imagine. Yeah, but just
- 16:52Speaker 1: like the a double decker dance barge just sounded so cool,
- 16:57Speaker 1: like yeah, in the in the I don't know if
- 16:59Speaker 1: it was like the thirties or the forties when they
- 17:02Speaker 1: when the kids saw that, but I love that. I'm
- 17:05Speaker 1: here for it either way. Yeah, I might get seasick,
- 17:08Speaker 1: but you know we'll see no, no, no. See.
- 17:12Speaker 2: The thing is is that like if you if you dance,
- 17:15Speaker 2: then it like counteracts the motion sickness.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Oh, if you drink, it counteracts the motion sickness. I mean,
- 17:26Speaker 1: couldn't hurt, right, I'm spinning one way, the boats spin
- 17:31Speaker 1: in the other just sequels out. I mean yeah, at
- 17:35Speaker 1: some point you just break even since poor Montrose Wringler
- 17:41Speaker 1: kept getting his shit shut down. He had to sell
- 17:45Speaker 1: the ballroom, unfortunately to a man named Dad Watson. And
- 17:51Speaker 1: Dad isn't quote, so I assume that's his nickname. So
- 17:55Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, diddy, dirty, yeah, yeah, But Dad Watson
- 18:00Speaker 1: he played country music at the dance hall until his
- 18:05Speaker 1: death in the late nineteen thirties, so he wasn't thirty too, lad,
- 18:11Speaker 1: Poor daddy. He just wanted to play country music.
- 18:15Speaker 2: And there's like a bajillion places where people did do
- 18:20Speaker 2: that back then, but Jillian places where people do that now.
- 18:24Speaker 2: There's lots of venues for all different types of music.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Like everybody just needs to take so many seats and
- 18:31Speaker 2: chill pills.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I know. I think Daddy was just scared of Lola
- 18:35Speaker 1: shutting his shit down, so he's like, fine, we'll play country.
- 18:38Speaker 1: It's country, okay, Hey, calm down, Lola, nothing to see here. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:44Speaker 1: it's all white people. Don't worry about it. Don't worry.
- 18:49Speaker 1: The ballroom was abandoned until Ralph Ferrier restored the building,
- 18:53Speaker 1: making it come alive again with square dancing and more
- 18:57Speaker 1: of that sweet sweet country music. Oh for God's so
- 19:01Speaker 1: for a good chunk of time, it was it was
- 19:04Speaker 1: just country music, just a lot of cowboy boots and
- 19:09Speaker 1: poodle skirts. Yeah, got square dancing. I just if people
- 19:13Speaker 1: like it, that's fine. I just I don't. I don't
- 19:18Speaker 1: really want any part in that. Is square dancing? Like,
- 19:21Speaker 1: is line dancing similar to it? Because that's what I
- 19:24Speaker 1: think of when I think of like newer country bars
- 19:27Speaker 1: and stuff.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean square dancing is definitely older, I think
- 19:32Speaker 2: than line dancing, but yeah, it is kind of similar
- 19:36Speaker 2: in that, like it's like these very specific, like kind
- 19:39Speaker 2: of a choreographed style of like dancing.
- 19:43Speaker 1: And no touch in your partner's body. Well, line dancing,
- 19:47Speaker 1: I don't know, not days. Yeah, maybe line dancing, but
- 19:50Speaker 1: not not the square dancing.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Yeah, square dancing is like very like you're moving independent
- 19:57Speaker 2: of your partner.
- 19:58Speaker 1: More it's for square, yeah, I mean if it's in
- 20:03Speaker 1: the name. But then it comes the sixties, you guys,
- 20:07Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, people aren't really interested in
- 20:11Speaker 1: country music so much anymore. Thanks to the new popular genres,
- 20:15Speaker 1: the Crystal Ballroom started to see performers like Tina Turner,
- 20:19Speaker 1: James Brown, and Marvin Gay. I could hear it now,
- 20:24Speaker 1: hold on, we're having a silent minute. To dance in
- 20:26Speaker 1: our heads to the music of the Crystal ball Room
- 20:29Speaker 1: in the sixties, continuing to grow towards the psychedelic seventies.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Performers would include the Electric Prunes, Blue Cheer, and the
- 20:41Speaker 1: Grateful Dead, which we mentioned in the in the Crystal Well. Yeah,
- 20:46Speaker 1: but I've never heard of the Electric Prunes or Blue
- 20:48Speaker 1: Cheer obviously. You know, I'm not a huge seventies like
- 20:51Speaker 1: music less. I mean, there was a lot, a lot,
- 20:55Speaker 1: a lot a lot of great.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Music from the seventies. I think those are some choices. Yeah,
- 21:02Speaker 2: in terms of like that's the sampling of the nineteen seventies,
- 21:06Speaker 2: I'm like, Okay, I'm thinking, like, you know, the the Eagles,
- 21:10Speaker 2: I feel like at that point, like the Stones were huge.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Maybe they didn't come to the Crystal Ballroom.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Maybe maybe not because they were probably too big for
- 21:19Speaker 2: a any like that. Maybe maybe that's all it is.
- 21:22Speaker 2: But like Steve Miller band, the Omen Brothers, I mean,
- 21:26Speaker 2: you know, anyways, we could be here all day.
- 21:29Speaker 1: But I'm just saying like, and I definitely just pulled
- 21:32Speaker 1: it from the article out the specific when I was
- 21:34Speaker 1: reading about this section, and I didn't like, go back
- 21:37Speaker 1: and look at the you know in seventies performance history
- 21:40Speaker 1: of the Crystal Ballroom. I guess I could have. I mean,
- 21:44Speaker 1: we can get into that at another time. Yeah, maybe
- 21:47Speaker 1: in the bonus.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean for me and for science. I feel
- 21:52Speaker 2: like maybe maybe we do that late.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, Caitlin, we'll look into that for me.
- 21:59Speaker 1: But do you remember that growth I talked about. They
- 22:01Speaker 1: were growing towards those psychedelic seventies, but that growth would
- 22:05Speaker 1: soon be cut short, No, due to worries of psychedelic music.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Brain fry. All right, I was gonna say, are they
- 22:15Speaker 1: they're growing? Huh? What are they growing? They were? They
- 22:19Speaker 1: were growing, they were growing, they were growing with the times.
- 22:22Speaker 1: And then all of a sudden they did what they
- 22:24Speaker 1: did to the jazz music and they called it evil Boo.
- 22:29Speaker 1: So just the same some more, the same old story,
- 22:32Speaker 1: but just a different music genre. After that, the ballroom
- 22:37Speaker 1: was pretty much abandoned and people would break in and
- 22:41Speaker 1: use it as a questionable hangout spot. Oh you could
- 22:45Speaker 1: probably imagine. Yeah, I guess it was also used as
- 22:49Speaker 1: an art studio and held private parties at like certain times.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Oh that sounds really cool. Yeah, I think so too.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Like the private party to have that in like a
- 23:01Speaker 1: huge abandoned building, Oh yeah, yeah, or an artsud like
- 23:05Speaker 1: totally cool. And I don't know if this was like
- 23:07Speaker 1: before or after people were breaking in to do various things.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Not the timeline, but yeah, buildings just go through so
- 23:19Speaker 2: many life cycles when they've been around this long, and
- 23:24Speaker 2: especially like in a bigger I mean, Portland is a
- 23:27Speaker 2: small city, like when you look at you know, bigger
- 23:32Speaker 2: cities like it, even Seattle, you know. I mean we're
- 23:35Speaker 2: no Chicago, We're no New York, that's for sure, but
- 23:39Speaker 2: like in cities like that, you know that like the
- 23:43Speaker 2: history and all of the Yeah, it's it's wild.
- 23:47Speaker 1: To think about. Yeah. Well, speaking of the history, it
- 23:50Speaker 1: has been on the National Register of Historic Places since
- 23:54Speaker 1: nineteen seventy nine, so I feel like that was kind
- 23:57Speaker 1: of the only thing that was keeping it around during
- 23:59Speaker 1: the times it was abandoned. Oh I would think so. Yeah,
- 24:04Speaker 1: And they like they had several failed restoration attempts to
- 24:08Speaker 1: I don't know like who in that time was trying
- 24:11Speaker 1: to rebuild it, but they just it nothing was working,
- 24:15Speaker 1: nothing was sticking. Yeah, until the mcminnimon's brothers took over
- 24:20Speaker 1: the ballroom, they renovated they added a bar, restaurant, brewery,
- 24:25Speaker 1: and a new sprung dance floor. They actually literally called
- 24:33Speaker 1: it a sprung dance floor, and I was.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Like, oh baby, I mean honestly accurate though, Like that's
- 24:39Speaker 2: an accurate characterization.
- 24:41Speaker 1: It is. And the Crystal Ballroom reopened in nineteen ninety seven.
- 24:46Speaker 2: So it's like this like kind of crazy like gap
- 24:50Speaker 2: in its history, like in a period of flux.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and who knows, you know, like this is a
- 24:57Speaker 1: fair normal podcast. What kind of like huh things or
- 25:01Speaker 1: left over from that time? What kind of energy? Hey,
- 25:05Speaker 1: I've I've talked about venues too. Maybe it's a true crime.
- 25:12Speaker 1: It could be, it could be is it episode? Like
- 25:16Speaker 1: is it did something happen there? I don't know.
- 25:19Speaker 2: I mean, any venue that's been around that long, I
- 25:23Speaker 2: feel like something has to have happened.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Probably, But for right this second, we're going to get
- 25:29Speaker 1: into that dance floor that I keep hinting about, because
- 25:32Speaker 1: it's pretty cool. It is something. It is something. Yes,
- 25:37Speaker 1: it is a floating dance floor, and it is meant
- 25:41Speaker 1: to absorb the shock of people's feet as they dance.
- 25:44Speaker 1: And from what I read, it sounds like they put
- 25:47Speaker 1: like foam on the bottom of like the wood planks
- 25:50Speaker 1: to make it so it's like squishy floating. It's very springy,
- 25:56Speaker 1: but it reduces the chances of injury during torking. Huh,
- 26:01Speaker 1: that's the purpose. Still, I'm gonna say not not my favorite.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I don't get down low no, no, because it's too squishy,
- 26:12Speaker 1: too squishy, but I feel like you don't feel like
- 26:15Speaker 1: you've got like a solid base. Well that was the
- 26:18Speaker 1: thought anyway, is that it would kind of like you know,
- 26:21Speaker 1: maybe keep you from getting shin splints or something.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Yeah, they were very concerned about the future tour.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Yes, floating floors were actually I've heard were pretty popular,
- 26:33Speaker 1: but I don't know in the Pacific Northwest how popular
- 26:35Speaker 1: they were.
- 26:36Speaker 2: I mean, I can't think of anywhere else where like
- 26:40Speaker 2: you can go and actually walk around on one anywhere else.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Not anymore, because this is that's when the last one's left,
- 26:49Speaker 1: like in the world. So yeah, in the world, in
- 26:52Speaker 1: the well, in the country, I think in the country.
- 26:54Speaker 1: I don't know about the world, but definitely here in
- 26:56Speaker 1: the United States, it's like one of the last ones.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Who Yeah, and people say it's like dancing on clouds,
- 27:04Speaker 1: which is a very Portland thing to say.
- 27:07Speaker 2: It's kind of more like dancing on jello with like
- 27:12Speaker 2: pantyhose strewn.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Oh on it it's I want solid. I don't. To me,
- 27:20Speaker 1: I don't.
- 27:21Speaker 2: I don't really get I don't get like a I
- 27:24Speaker 2: don't get seasick, like if I go on like a
- 27:27Speaker 2: boat or like a ferry, I don't have that. I
- 27:30Speaker 2: do get carsick still, like it could happen to me
- 27:33Speaker 2: today to say, but that's the closest thing that I
- 27:37Speaker 2: can think of to like, it feels like how people
- 27:41Speaker 2: describe like being seasick.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, it weirds me out. Yeah. We I
- 27:47Speaker 1: remember chatting with Shay about it, and she really enjoyed it,
- 27:51Speaker 1: from what I remember her saying. And then we were
- 27:53Speaker 1: like ooh, because I'm really sensitive emotion too, and like
- 27:57Speaker 1: I can't even like step on a dock or I'll
- 27:59Speaker 1: be I go like so sick.
- 28:01Speaker 2: It feels like I'm walking through someone's ancient attic.
- 28:06Speaker 1: And I feel like when we went to the van
- 28:09Speaker 1: Resa Castle and we were up in the attic and
- 28:11Speaker 1: it was all floaty feeling.
- 28:12Speaker 2: It's like squishy, yeah, and it feels like, oh God,
- 28:16Speaker 2: is that like is that a board that like it's is.
- 28:20Speaker 1: That a board or quicksand what is that? Yeah, I
- 28:23Speaker 1: don't like it.
- 28:24Speaker 2: I don't want to feel like that the whole time
- 28:27Speaker 2: I'm at a concert. It because I really feel like
- 28:29Speaker 2: I'm like, I can't tell if I'm about to like
- 28:32Speaker 2: my foot's gonna go through.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I know it's not.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Because it's it like it's it doesn't seem unsafe, but
- 28:40Speaker 2: my brain says.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like a I feel like it's like a
- 28:44Speaker 1: lizard brain reaction to like your body feeling like it's
- 28:48Speaker 1: in danger even though your mind is like you, dude,
- 28:50Speaker 1: you're fine.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Yes, one thousand percent. I just like, no matter how
- 28:55Speaker 2: many times I tell myself, it's like it's kind of
- 28:58Speaker 2: like like a little tiny trampoline, and.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I'm just like, that is the stupidest thing.
- 29:05Speaker 2: I'm like, I can't even trick my own brain into
- 29:08Speaker 2: believing that, but but.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I would try it. I want to walk on it
- 29:12Speaker 1: and to see what it's like. Cool, it's cool. I
- 29:15Speaker 1: can do it in short bouts.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I have to go like towards the edges, because there
- 29:22Speaker 2: are parts of the venue where you can feel it
- 29:26Speaker 2: less and like the outer edges. Like then that gives
- 29:30Speaker 2: me like a little breather.
- 29:32Speaker 1: That makes sense. Yeah. H When you're like in the middle,
- 29:35Speaker 1: it's like, oh and everyone's like moving around you too.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Oh wow, Oh we're getting motions like it's just thinking
- 29:42Speaker 1: about it. It's like being on a seesaw kind of
- 29:45Speaker 1: in a way. It's it's freaky. It's really cool. I
- 29:49Speaker 1: love it.
- 29:49Speaker 2: It's very exciting because it sounds like it's a kind
- 29:52Speaker 2: of a rare thing to be able to experience.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Now.
- 29:55Speaker 2: I feel like kind of a dick for going on
- 29:57Speaker 2: and on about how I'm I kind of like, but
- 30:01Speaker 2: you want, you know, we want creepy people to be
- 30:03Speaker 2: warned if they're gonna go, Like if you're really sensitive,
- 30:06Speaker 2: like just know what you're stepping on to so you
- 30:09Speaker 2: don't feel like maybe you don't know what's happening if
- 30:11Speaker 2: you didn't read about the place.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I don't know if they have signs up telling you
- 30:14Speaker 1: it's a floating dance floor or not.
- 30:16Speaker 2: I don't think so. I don't think i've ever seen
- 30:18Speaker 2: anything about that. I remember the first time that I
- 30:22Speaker 2: went to a show there, and I was like when
- 30:28Speaker 2: I made when I made my way to the middle,
- 30:31Speaker 2: like I had no context for that, and I was like,
- 30:35Speaker 2: what is I was. I was genuinely a little bit
- 30:37Speaker 2: terrified for a second.
- 30:40Speaker 1: We're just here to provide context for your future endeavors, y'all. Yeah,
- 30:45Speaker 1: and maybe also process my trauma. Yeah a little bit. Oh,
- 30:50Speaker 1: but that's why I was wondering kind of like if
- 30:52Speaker 1: the like dance boat idea kind of inspired the dance yeah, honestly. Yeah.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Well and it's funny because I'd forgotten even that you
- 31:02Speaker 2: said that, but like describing it as like this is
- 31:06Speaker 2: how people say it like feels to like be seasick,
- 31:10Speaker 2: and I'm like, yeah, I don't think I've ever actually
- 31:12Speaker 2: been seasick, but this is like that you can imagine
- 31:17Speaker 2: like the closest comparison for me.
- 31:20Speaker 1: So if you're ever wanting to know what it's like
- 31:22Speaker 1: to be seasick and you just can't experience it, go
- 31:26Speaker 1: to the floating dance floor at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon.
- 31:31Speaker 1: I know, not a great not exactly an e that
- 31:36Speaker 1: sponsored Well, maybe this will help. The Crystal Ballroom now
- 31:40Speaker 1: holds up to eight hundred and fifty people sitting and
- 31:43Speaker 1: fifteen hundred standing, which I feel like is kind of
- 31:47Speaker 1: like it's not that big of a place. But I
- 31:49Speaker 1: guess it kind of is. Yeah, I mean, so I
- 31:53Speaker 1: think of it.
- 31:54Speaker 2: It's one of several venues in Portland where you're like,
- 31:58Speaker 2: that's kind of small, right, like compared to like if
- 32:01Speaker 2: you think about like a Modus Center something on that scale.
- 32:04Speaker 1: It's Acoma Dome smaller than those, Yeah, but.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Like compare it to like the scale of like you know,
- 32:12Speaker 2: an average like wedding venue which may host Most of
- 32:16Speaker 2: them are like maybe two hundred two fifty max. So
- 32:20Speaker 2: it's like it puts it into perspective not like stadium, yeah, but.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Like bigger than a wedding venue, an average one. Anyway,
- 32:29Speaker 1: Caitlin would know she looked at them all I did
- 32:33Speaker 1: quite literally. Yeah.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Well, one thing that's really cool for me is my
- 32:39Speaker 3: mom is an Oregonian and when she she moved to
- 32:44Speaker 3: Portland when she turned eighteen, and she had a little
- 32:47Speaker 3: apartment in the Montgomery District and she worked at Montgomery Wards.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Oh cute and yeah, and I've been by her apartment
- 32:56Speaker 3: building and it's one of those old brick like two
- 32:58Speaker 3: story buildings, you know, that's so cute, And my gosh,
- 33:02Speaker 3: she told me.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Shay, I think our moms lived in the same building
- 33:06Speaker 2: in Montgomery District.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Dude, well, next time we come out, let's do a
- 33:11Speaker 3: field trip. Let's go out there and see if it's
- 33:12Speaker 3: the same building. But she we need in the like
- 33:17Speaker 3: early sixties.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Oh okay, No, they maybe lived in the same building,
- 33:23Speaker 1: but maybe not at the same time. Yeah, not at
- 33:26Speaker 1: the same time. So uh.
- 33:28Speaker 3: But she told me she used to go to the
- 33:30Speaker 3: Crystal Ballroom to go dancing all the time because they
- 33:33Speaker 3: would have these the concerts were cheap, and they would
- 33:36Speaker 3: do dances there all the time. So I've been there
- 33:39Speaker 3: to dance for eighties nights, like more times than I
- 33:42Speaker 3: can name. I love it so much. Their floating dance
- 33:45Speaker 3: floor is amazing. But it's very cool being in there
- 33:48Speaker 3: and being like my mom was dancing in the same
- 33:50Speaker 3: exact place in the nineteen sixties. Oh, that is cool.
- 33:54Speaker 3: She used to take the bus to the Lloyd Center
- 33:56Speaker 3: during the time that Jerry Brutos was active, and I
- 34:00Speaker 3: I'm always like, Mom, you could have been a victim.
- 34:04Speaker 3: You could have never been here. Anyways, that's that's my
- 34:07Speaker 3: mom in Portland.
- 34:08Speaker 1: That's so cool. I mean, besides the killer part.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Yeah right, she didn't get killed, so it's fine.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, you know, you win some, you lose some, right,
- 34:18Speaker 1: she won that one.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I have to say, I'm not a fan of
- 34:23Speaker 2: the floating dance floor and oh you know.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Like the floating dance floor. Oh, I'd like it.
- 34:28Speaker 3: I mean it's not like it's bouncing like always dancing.
- 34:33Speaker 3: It feels like a little bit floaty. No, like if
- 34:36Speaker 3: you have vertigo, it's risky. Sure, okay, okay, I could
- 34:40Speaker 3: see that. Yeah, but I got a blast there. And
- 34:42Speaker 3: then it was always because they do the eighties dance
- 34:45Speaker 3: attack like they do the eighties video Dance Attack, and
- 34:48Speaker 3: they do a nineties night too, and I've been to both,
- 34:51Speaker 3: of course multiple times both and then one time so
- 34:55Speaker 3: for my fortieth birthday, I was like, I want to
- 34:58Speaker 3: go to Portland. I want to go to eighties night.
- 35:00Speaker 3: But the only eighties night that was happening that weekend
- 35:02Speaker 3: was the Prince Tribute night, so it was in the
- 35:06Speaker 3: ballroom itself. So I love the Prince, but there is
- 35:10Speaker 3: a limit of how much Prince you can dance to
- 35:13Speaker 3: in a single night, because the danceable songs are you know, like.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Eighties, not all of them.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not all of them, Like you're not gonna
- 35:22Speaker 3: dance the rest of them.
- 35:23Speaker 1: You know, you do something else, but I.
- 35:30Speaker 3: Won't do karaoke, but she will sing for our podcast.
- 35:35Speaker 3: But I was drunk enough that that did not matter.
- 35:39Speaker 3: And by the end of the night, my friend had
- 35:41Speaker 3: me convinced that we were gonna go get matching Prince tattoos.
- 35:44Speaker 3: And then I went to the back to the hotel room.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Oh thank god, you didn't get that's good, Thank goodness.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Happy fortieth to me, who it was not that long ago.
- 35:56Speaker 3: I have so much to look forward to. I'm so excited.
- 35:59Speaker 3: I know, Hey, we could all still do this for
- 36:02Speaker 3: your fortieth.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Yeah, we will be there. I will. We have an opportunity.
- 36:06Speaker 3: I will talk you into a matching Prince tattoo that
- 36:08Speaker 3: I will not get. It's the benefit of having older friends.
- 36:11Speaker 3: I'm calling you your plan on my fortieth first.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Absolutely, we're there. The Crystal Ballroom now sees many different
- 36:21Speaker 1: genres of performances, probably all of the genres at this point. Like,
- 36:25Speaker 1: I don't think they're they're what's that word, they're discriminating
- 36:29Speaker 1: at all on genres? Yeah, absolutely no.
- 36:33Speaker 2: And honestly, when you look at the different like artists
- 36:38Speaker 2: and the different bands that are highlighted. Yeah, the selection
- 36:42Speaker 2: for the hotel rooms. So at the Crystal Hotel, it's
- 36:48Speaker 2: such a wide selection of like different styles, it.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Kind of ruins the gamut, I think. Yeah. Yeah, And
- 36:55Speaker 1: as far as I know, no one's trying to shut
- 36:57Speaker 1: it down. So everyone knock on your wood, knock on
- 37:01Speaker 1: your floating dance floor wood gently, gently, don't want to
- 37:07Speaker 1: get sick. Now. So there's a couple of places, like
- 37:14Speaker 1: I talked about them having a bar, and yeah, they
- 37:18Speaker 1: had a brewery, a couple of so we're going to
- 37:19Speaker 1: talk about some of those places. And one of them
- 37:22Speaker 1: is Wringler's Pub, which is defined by a purple awning
- 37:27Speaker 1: on the ground floor of the Crystal Ballroom building. And
- 37:31Speaker 1: does the name Wringler sound familiar to you at all? WHOA,
- 37:36Speaker 1: So we just talked about him. It was named after
- 37:39Speaker 1: Montrose Wringler, and it might see it kind of is
- 37:44Speaker 1: he was the original owner of the building.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's really cool. And they do that,
- 37:49Speaker 2: I feel like in so many subtle ways too.
- 37:53Speaker 1: They do. And we talked about a couple of those
- 37:57Speaker 1: things with the Crystal Hotel too. So if Wrangler sound
- 38:00Speaker 1: it's kind of familiar to we talked about the Wringler's Annex,
- 38:03Speaker 1: which is just like a little like offshoot of the
- 38:06Speaker 1: Wrangler's Bar kind of. That's in that Ringlers features classic
- 38:12Speaker 1: American fair in a pub where pinball, shuffle board, and
- 38:15Speaker 1: pool tables. Beckon, I love me some shuffle board. I
- 38:20Speaker 1: have seen people play it. I'm not sure if I've
- 38:23Speaker 1: actually played it. I think we kind of talked about
- 38:26Speaker 1: this earlier. You're so so appalled that I've never shuffle boarded. Okay, well,
- 38:34Speaker 1: so here's the thing. I was very very surprised.
- 38:37Speaker 2: But it was the sharp intake in the gas that
- 38:42Speaker 2: I listen, I'm not really meant.
- 38:45Speaker 1: To be here.
- 38:46Speaker 2: I might be an actual ghost because I so frequently
- 38:50Speaker 2: am like choking on my own spit. Yeah, it's tripping
- 38:55Speaker 2: over my own feet. Honestly, it's it's really a actious.
- 39:01Speaker 1: It is like how do I even deal with you? Like,
- 39:03Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know.
- 39:06Speaker 2: It's like I'm auditioning to be like the best friend
- 39:11Speaker 2: in a rom com or something like oh oh oh, so.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Am i am the star of the rom com? Where
- 39:18Speaker 1: and where is my rom calmness than Caitlin? I don't know? Okay,
- 39:23Speaker 1: where's my rom com. Kaitlyn, My life is just a
- 39:28Speaker 1: sad calm? Is a sad calm? You're the You're the
- 39:35Speaker 1: sidekick in a sad com movie. What is that the
- 39:41Speaker 1: sad comedy comedy? Anyway? Oh my god, I don't even know.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Oh you're talking about shuffle board, And this is interesting
- 39:50Speaker 1: because I'm like, I can't remember if I've actually played
- 39:52Speaker 1: it or if I've just seen people playing it on TV.
- 39:55Speaker 1: And we literally were talking about the earlier about the
- 39:57Speaker 1: Renaissance Fair, where I was like, I don't know if
- 39:59Speaker 1: I've actually red into a Renaissance Fair or if I've
- 40:01Speaker 1: just heard enough people talk about it and like seeing
- 40:04Speaker 1: one on TV.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I have been to one, and I specifically
- 40:09Speaker 2: went to the one that you were talking about.
- 40:12Speaker 1: And now I'm like, do I do a lot of stuff?
- 40:16Speaker 1: Because I don't think so. I feel like I never
- 40:18Speaker 1: leave my house and it's completely intentional. You do stuff
- 40:22Speaker 1: I occasionally, You go to the Renaissance Fair, you play
- 40:25Speaker 1: shuffle board, and even to the crystal ballroom. Those are
- 40:28Speaker 1: three things I don't think I've ever done. I mean, honestly,
- 40:32Speaker 1: I'm shocked. I'm miss I'm you don't even seem shocked.
- 40:36Speaker 1: So I was gonna say, I'm as shocked as you are,
- 40:39Speaker 1: but I'm I'm you're not matching my You're you're not
- 40:43Speaker 1: matching my freak. Oh speaking of your shirt, though we
- 40:48Speaker 1: weren't really talking about your shirt, but I just remembered
- 40:50Speaker 1: mad Hustle, and I was like, it kind of reminded
- 40:52Speaker 1: me of some of the themes in the episode with Wrangler
- 40:55Speaker 1: having the mad hustle he was trying to get out
- 40:57Speaker 1: on the boat when he couldn't do his stance for
- 41:01Speaker 1: in the hall, and then Lola having the mad hustle
- 41:04Speaker 1: about getting everyone shut down. I mean, boo oh, Okay,
- 41:09Speaker 1: we have some more stuff to talk about. What was
- 41:12Speaker 1: originally the Crystal Ballroom's dance rehearsal studio between the Ballroom
- 41:17Speaker 1: and Wringler's Pub is a six barrel brewery established in
- 41:22Speaker 1: nineteen ninety seven, which I think is when I said
- 41:25Speaker 1: they opened it general, so it opened along with the
- 41:29Speaker 1: new mcminnimon's Crystal Ballroom. They craft seasonal and unique beers
- 41:35Speaker 1: as well as mcminnimon's favorites, like the usual ruby hammerhead.
- 41:41Speaker 1: I think is one of their hammerheads. I'm not totally sure.
- 41:48Speaker 2: I think they have branched out into brewing other types
- 41:52Speaker 2: of spirits as well.
- 41:54Speaker 1: I'm not sure there from what I read they do.
- 41:59Speaker 1: As far as I I know, they do some barrel
- 42:01Speaker 1: aged beers and the barrels they use come from the
- 42:04Speaker 1: Edgefield Distillery. So in case anyone doesn't know, is another
- 42:08Speaker 1: mcminimon's popular Mcminimon's property who also does Like they do
- 42:13Speaker 1: concerts too, Yeah, the Edgefield.
- 42:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's arguably probably the biggest of I think
- 42:24Speaker 2: the properties. And I mean they have a hotel, They've
- 42:30Speaker 2: got kind of like a little spa situations.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Is that where we went for the that concert we
- 42:35Speaker 1: went to? Who was that? Michigan on Kelly? Was that there? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
- 42:41Speaker 1: yeah it was.
- 42:43Speaker 2: I was like, I feel like we've been there together,
- 42:44Speaker 2: but I couldn't quite place it.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd never been there before. That was my first time. Yeah,
- 42:50Speaker 1: and it rained the entire night. It did. Oh should
- 42:53Speaker 1: we insert some of those pictures? I think I still
- 42:56Speaker 1: have like video clips from that too. Loved it. I
- 43:00Speaker 1: thought it was so fun, it was so pubb we
- 43:03Speaker 1: had such a good time. M h. Anyway, where was
- 43:06Speaker 1: I going with that? Oh? So, I don't know if
- 43:07Speaker 1: they do any distilling there. I didn't see anything on it,
- 43:10Speaker 1: but I wasn't really looking for that either, so well,
- 43:13Speaker 1: I'm not sure.
- 43:13Speaker 2: And the only reason why I even like bring it
- 43:15Speaker 2: up is because they have their own like kind of signature,
- 43:19Speaker 2: like they have the umbrella, Jimmy's rose. They've got like
- 43:25Speaker 2: I think it's a white rabbit, like a couple of
- 43:28Speaker 2: different I want to say, wine selections they have. They
- 43:32Speaker 2: have some other signature ones and so those may not
- 43:35Speaker 2: be produced on their properties like where people go and
- 43:39Speaker 2: stay per se, but like they they've got, they got
- 43:43Speaker 2: their hands on a little bit of everything they do
- 43:46Speaker 2: and it's all delicious.
- 43:48Speaker 1: So we all know I started abbreviating mcminimum's m MSMs amens.
- 43:57Speaker 1: We all know mcminimons loves it's unique in historic art.
- 44:02Speaker 1: They seemingly slip it in everywhere they can, little oh crevices, spracks,
- 44:07Speaker 1: even really big things overhead and height, yes, everything, And
- 44:13Speaker 1: they even included some of this artwork on the brewery
- 44:17Speaker 1: tanks in the brewery. Yeah, obviously the brewery takes her
- 44:21Speaker 1: in the brewery. Where else would they be, Cassie, I mean,
- 44:24Speaker 1: I don't know, but on one of those tanks is
- 44:27Speaker 1: a portrait of none other then Lola Baldwin bo So.
- 44:33Speaker 1: I wonder like kind of how she feels about having
- 44:35Speaker 1: her face on something that is making alcohol all of
- 44:40Speaker 1: that Licka. So they did that kind of like as
- 44:44Speaker 1: a little payback to Lola for you know, shutting things down.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Honestly, that just feels like she's a part of the history,
- 44:51Speaker 2: and I feel like, as much as I have bowed her,
- 44:58Speaker 2: I can understand. You know, at a certain point in history,
- 45:03Speaker 2: there were you know, we talked about it with prohibition
- 45:05Speaker 2: crimes where it you know, there was a lot of
- 45:08Speaker 2: violence against women, and a lot of it stemmed from
- 45:12Speaker 2: like really like raging issues with you know, alcoholism and
- 45:19Speaker 2: a lot of untreated addiction and mental health issues. And
- 45:24Speaker 2: you know, I think there were a lot of people
- 45:27Speaker 2: that were just like, we don't know what else to do,
- 45:30Speaker 2: and we don't have a lot of resources to try
- 45:33Speaker 2: to fix this. Yeah, so we're just gonna like we're
- 45:36Speaker 2: cutting the cord on.
- 45:39Speaker 1: The on the booze, shut it it's down, gotta go. Yeah. Yeah,
- 45:45Speaker 1: but racism, I don't I'm not going to give you
- 45:48Speaker 1: a pass there. Yeah, definitely some passionate people doing what
- 45:53Speaker 1: they thought was the right thing to do. So yeah.
- 45:57Speaker 1: But speaking of Lola again, she also as a namesake
- 46:01Speaker 1: in this place, which Caitlin mentioned earlier. What is it
- 46:05Speaker 1: call Lola's Room? Lola's Room, which I don't know much about,
- 46:09Speaker 1: but I read it is like a sister venue for
- 46:13Speaker 1: DJ events and other smaller shows.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Yeah, but yeah, in like the same building though it's not. Yeah, yeah, no,
- 46:21Speaker 2: it's in it is. It's in the same building, so like,
- 46:24Speaker 2: I know it exists. I know I've been there. None
- 46:27Speaker 2: of the snapshots in my head matchup with it. Really,
- 46:31Speaker 2: we'll go there and we'll find it.
- 46:32Speaker 1: We're gonna go go say ha to Loola, Loola, Well,
- 46:38Speaker 1: are you ready to talk about some ghosty things while
- 46:40Speaker 1: we're here, while we're at it? Why not? Oh shit?
- 46:44Speaker 1: I kind of thought maybe that wasn't gonna happen this time. Nah,
- 46:47Speaker 1: it's happening. Okay, pull up your feet. It's not that bad. Okay.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Some local psychics believe that the bricks of the building
- 46:58Speaker 1: are holding the energy from all the excitement that has
- 47:01Speaker 1: taken place there since the opening. All that dancing, all
- 47:05Speaker 1: that live music, all of that shenanigans.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's like mostly probably good energy.
- 47:14Speaker 1: But it is a lot of energy, and it could
- 47:17Speaker 1: be I mean, we don't know there were things happening
- 47:20Speaker 1: to girls back then, so I mean there could be
- 47:23Speaker 1: some of that negative energy as well. Sure not saying
- 47:26Speaker 1: like that that happened so often it needed to be
- 47:31Speaker 1: like shut down or was so unique in that specific
- 47:34Speaker 1: space that it needed to be shut down. I think so,
- 47:36Speaker 1: I think it probably did happen. It probably wasn't like
- 47:39Speaker 1: an unfounded claim or anything. But yeah, so it could
- 47:44Speaker 1: be very good, like upbeat, happy energy. It could not be,
- 47:49Speaker 1: especially maybe the times where it was abandoned and who
- 47:52Speaker 1: knows what was going on.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think there could be a lot
- 47:56Speaker 2: of intense energy from that period.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and all the reservations too, like I'm sure you know. Yeah,
- 48:07Speaker 1: so people experience lights flickering in certain rooms, but like
- 48:12Speaker 1: not in others. Loud, unexplained noises coming from the ballroom,
- 48:18Speaker 1: so like maybe when it's empty or like nothing's going on,
- 48:21Speaker 1: they would hear things and then like go to see
- 48:24Speaker 1: what's going on in there, and that all the noises
- 48:27Speaker 1: just stop.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Oh I don't I don't care for that. And because
- 48:31Speaker 2: of like the vaulted ceilings, like things would just like
- 48:34Speaker 2: echoes like crazy.
- 48:37Speaker 1: I'm like picturing all like this noise and then you
- 48:40Speaker 1: open the door, but then like it stops, but like
- 48:42Speaker 1: you're still hearing like the echoing of what's going on.
- 48:47Speaker 1: I don't know if that's true. That's just like what
- 48:48Speaker 1: I'm picturing in my head. Yeah. No, honestly, I could
- 48:52Speaker 1: see it. I could see it. Guest report feeling like
- 48:57Speaker 1: maybe fingers pulling on their clothes and feeling cold spots
- 49:02Speaker 1: in certain areas, which is kind of I don't know,
- 49:05Speaker 1: like how if the AC is really good in this
- 49:08Speaker 1: old building. I'm not in minimums. It's not really known
- 49:12Speaker 1: for its great air conditioning, so no, And I can
- 49:16Speaker 1: imagine like if it's full of people, it's not going
- 49:19Speaker 1: to be cold. So if you're experiencing a cold spot.
- 49:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that that feels outside of the realm of explanation,
- 49:29Speaker 2: at least from my experience. Yes, it's a hot venue,
- 49:34Speaker 2: and the AC, I will say, like, is not it's
- 49:39Speaker 2: not working over time and a lot of warm bodies
- 49:44Speaker 2: in there, and.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Movement, yes, sweaty bowdies.
- 49:48Speaker 2: If you are feeling a cold spot, like during a
- 49:52Speaker 2: summer concert there, like.
- 49:56Speaker 1: I think it's time to go I'll look about your
- 49:58Speaker 1: ubers here, like, or maybe you just hang out in it,
- 50:02Speaker 1: follow it around, just be in that ghost for the
- 50:05Speaker 1: entire time and have your own air conditioning. Yeah, but
- 50:09Speaker 1: then the ghost is going to ghost you. Ah, come on, yeah,
- 50:15Speaker 1: in my sad calm then even the ghosts ghost me.
- 50:19Speaker 2: No, you just have to play hard to get. Ghosts
- 50:21Speaker 2: are looking for the amusement. They're looking for something to
- 50:25Speaker 2: spice up the afterlife.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Yeah. People also report seeing apparitions dressed in nineteen twenties clothing,
- 50:34Speaker 1: kind of like moving around, dancing around the ballroom, mingling. Yes, please,
- 50:41Speaker 1: I know the twenties, Oh so good, the art deco
- 50:45Speaker 1: of it all, the Great Gatsby.
- 50:48Speaker 4: Ugh.
- 50:49Speaker 1: I mean I know that eras don't necessarily like one
- 50:52Speaker 1: hundred percent matchup, but like it's a vibe. That's what
- 50:55Speaker 1: I'm thinking of too. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yes. One night,
- 50:59Speaker 1: a staff member was cleaning up after the place was
- 51:02Speaker 1: closed when they saw a couple doing the jitterbug on
- 51:07Speaker 1: the dance floor. But then before he can go over
- 51:10Speaker 1: and be like, hey, we're closed, like you gotta go,
- 51:13Speaker 1: you gotta go. No jitterbug in on this dance floor tonight.
- 51:16Speaker 1: That's enough. Of the jitterbug they disappeared, But that that
- 51:20Speaker 1: feels like some of that like good energy. That's maybe, yeah, lingering,
- 51:24Speaker 1: it's just some Oh my gosh. Can you imagine if
- 51:26Speaker 1: that was like their first dance and they met that
- 51:30Speaker 1: night and then we're together forever and ever and their
- 51:33Speaker 1: souls were always just doing the jitterbug on the night
- 51:36Speaker 1: that sum Oh my god. Oh that's giving me such chills.
- 51:42Speaker 1: That's so see.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Okay, that ghost experience, even I would be okay.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Okay, jitterbug and couples, we can handle that. Yeah, Although,
- 51:56Speaker 1: to be honest with you, if I were to see
- 51:59Speaker 1: a couple doing the jitterbug, I'm not sure I would
- 52:03Speaker 1: know that they were doing the jitterbug. I would probably
- 52:05Speaker 1: be like, oh my god, like, are they okay? Are
- 52:08Speaker 1: are they possessed? Like what? Because isn't the jitterbug like
- 52:12Speaker 1: kind of crazy?
- 52:13Speaker 2: I'm trying to picture? Okay, Well, I'm gonna look because
- 52:17Speaker 2: I know I know what it looks like, but I
- 52:22Speaker 2: can't picture it. You're gonna die. This reminds me of
- 52:27Speaker 2: doing like swing dance in like.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I love her hair, I know, Okay, maybe
- 52:36Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I would probably think that they were swing dancing,
- 52:38Speaker 1: though I don't know if I wouldn't know specifically it
- 52:40Speaker 1: was the jitterbug, but yeah, I would know that they
- 52:43Speaker 1: were dancing. Okay. For some reason, I was thinking it
- 52:46Speaker 1: was like a little more crazy. Yeah, okay, we have
- 52:50Speaker 1: a couple more ghosty things to talk about. I know
- 52:52Speaker 1: you're trying to get out of it, but it's not happening.
- 52:55Speaker 2: Well, listen, it's just because now that we've talked about
- 52:58Speaker 2: the jitterbug and possibly having to learn the routine for
- 53:02Speaker 2: my recently established wedding party reunion, I just feel like
- 53:09Speaker 2: I need some time to work on the choreography.
- 53:13Speaker 3: You know.
- 53:13Speaker 1: It's okay, So people also hear the sounds of like
- 53:18Speaker 1: what sounds like a bunch of people dancing and mingling voices,
- 53:22Speaker 1: kind of just like having a party, but the place
- 53:25Speaker 1: is empty of guests. Okay, Well, that I don't care
- 53:29Speaker 1: for as much, and that's not as cute. I think.
- 53:32Speaker 1: It's still it's still cute. It's still reminds me of
- 53:34Speaker 1: like good energy, good energy happening.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that seems like good energy, but I still that
- 53:40Speaker 2: would freak me out.
- 53:41Speaker 1: This one will be your least favorite, okay, right, one
- 53:48Speaker 1: night after a performance, a staff member heard a child's laughter,
- 53:54Speaker 1: and when he went to figure out where it came from,
- 53:57Speaker 1: something tugged on his shirt. No, why the tugging, I know,
- 54:02Speaker 1: And I don't know if like the tugging other people
- 54:04Speaker 1: are experiencing, is the same entity or not, or if
- 54:08Speaker 1: it's different tugging. I'm not really sure, but I kind
- 54:10Speaker 1: of feel like it might be just like the same
- 54:13Speaker 1: child spirit almost uh. When he turned around when he
- 54:18Speaker 1: felt this tugging, and he did see a child, but
- 54:22Speaker 1: probably before he could get too confused about why a
- 54:25Speaker 1: child would be there. Yeah, that late at night after
- 54:28Speaker 1: a performance, it just disappeared. So there's a lot of
- 54:31Speaker 1: that happening. Is seeing something only to have it just
- 54:34Speaker 1: vanish in front of your eyes. Okay, listen.
- 54:39Speaker 2: The only time when a child disappearing was the one
- 54:45Speaker 2: scene in like Back to the Future where the pictures
- 54:50Speaker 2: they start disappearing from them.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Oh yeah, ooh, but.
- 54:55Speaker 2: Even that, honestly, No, also that I'm not okay with that.
- 54:59Speaker 2: I was deeply trouble.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Okay, none of it's okay. No child can disappear ever,
- 55:05Speaker 1: no pleason, thank you. No, it's not good. I don't
- 55:09Speaker 1: like it. But like unless it's a ghost child, but
- 55:11Speaker 1: I feel like you would like that you need or
- 55:13Speaker 1: do you need them to be visible?
- 55:15Speaker 2: I do need them to be visible because I know
- 55:18Speaker 2: they're still, you know, doing little child things.
- 55:22Speaker 1: Tugging on your shirt. Oh mapma, Oh my god. That
- 55:31Speaker 1: is kind of sad though, Like what if she's just
- 55:33Speaker 1: well I don't know if it's a girl child or
- 55:35Speaker 1: a boy child, but what if they're just like wandering
- 55:37Speaker 1: around kind of like tugging at people to get them
- 55:39Speaker 1: to turn so he can like see if it's their
- 55:42Speaker 1: parents or not.
- 55:43Speaker 2: Oh oh, that's so sad. That makes it so much worer.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Sorry, that didn't make it a lot worse. Yeah, Okay,
- 55:51Speaker 1: I hope it's just like a little trickster kid who's
- 55:53Speaker 1: just who knows what it's doing and it's causing mischief. Yes,
- 55:57Speaker 1: I want to.
- 55:57Speaker 2: I want to just pretend it's just some fucking punk kid,
- 56:01Speaker 2: you know, yeah, just runder around being a little nuisance.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Not a sad kid searching for its parents. That's that's.
- 56:12Speaker 1: Oh well, that's my thing. Can I send you a
- 56:16Speaker 1: picture in here? Yeah, in the chat? Yeah, it's an
- 56:20Speaker 1: old picture of the building. Oh and then oh you
- 56:25Speaker 1: can see that it says Cotillion Hall on one side
- 56:28Speaker 1: and then Wringlers Dancing Academy on the other side, so
- 56:32Speaker 1: he was also like a dance instructor. Also downstairs is M.
- 56:37Speaker 1: Kraken motor Co. Oh yeah, and that's like kind of
- 56:43Speaker 1: I think that's like where the bar is now. I
- 56:45Speaker 1: feel like I yeah, which is interesting because like it's
- 56:49Speaker 1: like a car theme because the Crystal Hotel also used
- 56:52Speaker 1: to be like a car place on the bottom floor,
- 56:55Speaker 1: and the Wringler's annex was like a tire place. I
- 56:58Speaker 1: feel like that was so common. Yeah, yeah, interesting. Yeah, anyway,
- 57:02Speaker 1: that was kind of the only picture I had. Yeah,
- 57:06Speaker 1: that was the only picture I brought. Since you've been there,
- 57:09Speaker 1: you know what it looks like on the inside, I
- 57:11Speaker 1: sure do. Well, should we do some taro for the
- 57:15Speaker 1: Crystal ball room some Tarrant balls room? Well, do you
- 57:23Speaker 1: want to do the cute ghost poll for me? Oh
- 57:27Speaker 1: my god, I really like feel like that's the one. Okay,
- 57:31Speaker 1: all right, all right, all right, I'm gonna light my
- 57:34Speaker 1: candle over here, open the doorway. Ooh, that was a
- 57:41Speaker 1: good shuffle. Okay, I need the vibes. I'm gonna grab
- 57:45Speaker 1: my book.
- 57:46Speaker 4: So vibes, vibes, crystal ballroom vibes, Wringler, Lola, Daddy Watson.
- 57:58Speaker 2: You okay, i'm as spread, I'm asa spread the dick
- 58:05Speaker 2: spread it.
- 58:07Speaker 1: Where where am I? What am I feeling? Kind of
- 58:10Speaker 1: like under your hustle, under the hustle side of your shirt? Wow? Okay,
- 58:17Speaker 1: all right? Is that not what you were feeling? No?
- 58:20Speaker 1: It is ooh okay. The nine of coins, nine of coins,
- 58:26Speaker 1: nine of pentacles. But I drew it in reverse. Oh okay, okay.
- 58:30Speaker 1: So our keywords are abundance, material, well being, security, comfort,
- 58:38Speaker 1: and success. Some decks, including the Aquarian and the writer
- 58:44Speaker 1: Waite Smith Taro, depict a woman with a beautiful bird
- 58:48Speaker 1: standing in a vineyard. Oh that is so weird. Just okay.
- 58:53Speaker 1: So learning about Lola, her grandchildren showed a picture of
- 58:58Speaker 1: her and like her bird.
- 59:00Speaker 2: Oh okay, that's interesting.
- 59:05Speaker 1: And she was like kind of outdoorsy too, that is
- 59:08Speaker 1: very cool. Okay. The ripe fruit symbolizes a period of
- 59:14Speaker 1: plenty and accomplishment. It's time to harvest your crop or
- 59:19Speaker 1: brew your bear. The nine of pentacles reversed may mean
- 59:25Speaker 1: you depend on someone else financially interesting, although your situation
- 59:31Speaker 1: may be comfortable in the material sense, you feel trapped
- 59:35Speaker 1: or bored. Oh that big reminds me of like the
- 59:39Speaker 1: Katilion Hall where it was like really profitable. But then
- 59:42Speaker 1: he started playing jazz music. So I felt like he
- 59:45Speaker 1: was feeling like trapped and bored and like, ah, I'm
- 59:47Speaker 1: sick of this fucking cotilions. Yeah.
- 59:50Speaker 2: Yeah, like something that you just like don't feel passionate. Yeah, yeah,
- 59:55Speaker 2: that's needed some spice in his life. Yeah, he got it,
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: boy did he. You'd like to get away, spread your wings,
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: but responsibilities hold you back. Perhaps you don't feel satisfied
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: with your success or don't feel you deserve it.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: Oh that's interesting, but he like kept trying and trying,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, Oh this is interesting. Okay.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: In a reading about money, the reverse nine may indicate
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: squandering money or losing property. Oh okay, perhaps do it
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: with theft, damage or deception?
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: Oh maybe deception, because I know I don't even think
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: we kind of brush the surface of what Montrose Wrangler
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: was doing. I know there was a lot of other
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: shady shenanigans going on, so yeah, deception could be a
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: huge part of that.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: Yeah, if you're purchasing or selling property, this card recommends caution.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: He sold it to the countryman. Caution, caution, save us all.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: If the reading is about your job, this card can
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: signify boredom or a lack of freedom in your work.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Perhaps you feel you should have accomplished more or achieved
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: a higher position by now. You may long for a
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: vacation or retirement, but can't afford to leave your job.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Well, it got he kind of got a forced yeah,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: forced retirement there. I hope he sold it for enough
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: that he could well. I mean, I don't know if
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: he was like a good dude truly or not, but
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: I hope he sold it for enough where he could
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: just go, like live the rest of his life or
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: whatever you wanted to do. I don't know. Yeah, go
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: fly and be free. Wrangler.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: In a reading about love, you may feel stifled or disenchanted.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: In a relationship. The reverse nine can symbolize a partnership
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: based on money and or security that lacks excitement or romance.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: It can also suggest lack of independence or equality. One
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: person holds the reins. What if that's like the relationship
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: between Lola and Montrose. One of them clearly has more power,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: one of them has a badge and one of them
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: is going to get their fucking way. Maybe I know
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: it's not like a romantic relationship, but definitely there was
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: a power struggle. I mean there was there was something
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: going on here. Maybe she like hate loved him, you know,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: like secretly loved him, hated him. That's actually kind of
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: an interesting thought. But she was like from what the
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: grand kids say, her and her husband were like very much,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: you know, in love and together and always doing things together.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: So who knows. I don't know. A woman's heart is
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: an ocean of secrets. Uh, bring it back to Titanic.
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: I was just gonna say it all circles back. It does.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: Can I see the card one more time, just to
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: see the colors and things? Oh? Is it like roses
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: in the background or is it just like red? No?
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: I think that is supposed to be roses, Oh like Portland, Like, yeah, roses,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: look at us. Who. It's funny because I like brought
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: up like the rose parade and stuff too. Yeah, ooh,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: you went onto something. I wonder if Lola had roses
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: because I'm pretty sure she was like a gardener, like
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: a big gardener. Oh, from what I remember in the video,
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: So interesting about the bird too, Like, how random is that? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: that is Yeah, well you'll have to watch the video.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: Maybe not like watch the whole thing, but yeah, because
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: it's like an hour long, but it is. I was.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: I watched it. I was like intrigued at what they were.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: I was gonna say an hour, like that's not that long,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: Like I'm curious. Yeah, it's really cool that that mcmenimums
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: does those kind of like historical presentation things. I don't
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: think I knew that they they have like their own historian.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: That's really cool. That is really cool. Maybe we'll have
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: to see if you can find their historian nowadays and
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: maybe have them on the show. That would be so cool.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Come on the show. Tell us about minimums histories. Are
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: you the mcmenimon's historian? Am I the mcmenimum's historian. I
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: feel like Shay might be the mcminimum's history a little bit.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: Oh my good. Great, Well that's all I have. That's all, folks,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: that's all, folks. Oh you know what we do have
