- 0:20I'm Nick Donovan on the lead vocalist for Stuff of the Avenue and to my
- 0:26right is Donald Basso. Okay, he's the he's the strings, he does
- 0:32all the heavy lifting. And I knew it's EPs about to come out and
- 0:40our hits well, hopefully our hit single is a new Empire and we personally
- 0:45we will love this. One's pretty our favorite song out of everything we've done
- 0:48so far. I love your confidence too. Bro calling it a hit single
- 0:52before it even comes out, No God ad buy that if ten people listen
- 0:56to it, be pretty ye, I said. Some of the Avenue are
- 1:00premier in a new song and new Empire this Friday. So how do you
- 1:06feel? Like? Guys, you've got that one EP out of the belt
- 1:07now, so you got a bit of experience there, But how you feel
- 1:10the second time around? I'm excited, Yeah, definitely, I feel like
- 1:14we're a little bit Our approach has been different. We've learned a lot from
- 1:21the first first run and now the second one. I think the songs have
- 1:26definitely taken a step up, and our writing has definitely taken a step up,
- 1:32and like we're definitely sort of coming together more as a group. Like
- 1:37it's not just like all of us were showing our skills in the first one,
- 1:42but this one's a little bit more of a more of a controlled group
- 1:47effort, which has been a really good, good way to write. You
- 1:52could say that Stuffer's getting their groove back, ha ha ha. Very good
- 1:56to hear. They tell us a bit more about a new empire from a
- 1:59musical point of view, and what you're going for with it, probably a
- 2:04bit of a journey, like a lot a lot of influencers, not just
- 2:09in music, but outside of music, Like sort of got a bit of
- 2:13a horror theme vibe to it, and I think when the film clips sort
- 2:19of drops, it all make a bit of sense. But yeah, it's
- 2:23definitely very influenced by a lot of different genres outside of music. But I
- 2:31really enjoyed the journey of the whole song, like it definitely sort of starts
- 2:37somewhere and finishes in like start, middle end sort of thing. I do
- 2:42recall when we were thrashing this one out for the first time, just piecing
- 2:46you together. I'm always just the spectator to start off with, and as
- 2:52the spectator, I just noticed everyone with other three layers, we're all on
- 2:54the same page when we're working on the song from point A. We got
- 2:59to a certain point and everyone straight away I was like, nah, we
- 3:01have to change this up now and we're going to do something. I'm not
- 3:06gonna say drastic, but we're going to do something particular. They were all
- 3:08on the same page straight away, and it was awesome, and I think
- 3:13when what what what? What they came up with was just it just hit,
- 3:17hit right, felt right. It was just smooth, and then it
- 3:22took the took the song to a new level and it was just really cool
- 3:28witnessing it there watching them do that, and then I got to lay some
- 3:31vocals on top. Nice look running through this song, boy, it's like
- 3:36it's it's still heavy as fuck, but there's a you've introduced a bit of
- 3:39a funky, groovy, sort of elementary like it's it's it's got a I
- 3:44got a bit of a tap to it, which you don't really get very
- 3:46often in metal. Yeah, I think it's like all of us, like,
- 3:53well say all of us, none of us just listened to metal,
- 3:58Like there's not just metal to listen to for us, So it is taken
- 4:02a bit of this bit of that and just like it really is a roll
- 4:06of the dice on the day what comes out when we're just jamming and figuring
- 4:13out what we're going to do for the next song. So yeah, there's
- 4:16no rules in the jam room, which is I feel like it's the best
- 4:21way to be whatever's best for the song. Sort. No one says no
- 4:27to anything, like you won't get anyone saying no, that's not heavy enough,
- 4:30No, that's not what we're going for. Like if it works,
- 4:33it works, then everyone is happy to just accept what happens. So tell
- 4:40us a bit more about the music video too, Like all I took out
- 4:44of it was a murderous drumstick and lots of violence. What's actually going on?
- 4:48Well, our drummer Jay did a lot of the heavy lifting with setting
- 4:54up the screenplay for this one, and it's happened for the last three film
- 4:59quips now where of all rock up and then we just all just come together
- 5:02and we throw some more ideas. On the day, everything just seems to
- 5:06stick. I guess it's kind of a mild continuation of the first when we
- 5:13did Sick Current, which tailed off with the door being open to the jay
- 5:19r and this one picks up with the door being open, and I guess
- 5:23it's just like a sort of chainsaw massacre throwback of getting away from a psychotic
- 5:33teddy Bear. And yeah, like I guess it's not done yet, It's
- 5:41to be continued sort of situation. So this is like the meat and potatoes
- 5:45of the story where a couple of us get captured and one of us gets
- 5:49away and then what happens. Cool and a New Red Bar is the lead
- 5:57single for your upcoming EP volume to Superdada, which comes out April a twelve.
- 6:01So why choose this song out of all of them to represent the album?
- 6:06I think it's probably got the most flavor, most well rounded, Like,
- 6:12it's definitely the most We said it before, we think it's our best
- 6:15song so far. We like all of our tracks obviously, but we feel
- 6:20like this one is our strongest foot forward and we're hoping that the direction that
- 6:25we go going going down the track is going to be along that sort of
- 6:30vein as well. Yeah, we're not like hanging shit on the rest of
- 6:34our songs, but like if you listen to the Volume two then it's I
- 6:41feel like it's just a step above everything else on there, Like there are
- 6:46like the other ones that are really good, but this one just has a
- 6:48bit more. The other thing is that this is actually our most recent written
- 6:53songs, so that is our last that, as I knew, was written
- 6:58song on all the is it that You're here come the release of that EP,
- 7:02so that that is ournual song. Yeah, and the is the obvious
- 7:08success to Volume one Stupid Dead being called Volume two Super DEADA like, Well,
- 7:13I got to know how much time did you spend on the title?
- 7:15About zero point five word wings and so it was quick draw, so it
- 7:27sort of touched on this for the last one. But how how do the
- 7:30two EPs differ musically? Like, aside from that that natural growth, I
- 7:32guess as a band, how do they differ? That's a good question on
- 7:38the thought about that. I think growth as a band, and I think
- 7:45more time together, just more time like spending time together, more time in
- 7:50the jam room. Well, it's sort of like when you're I guess,
- 7:56I don't know a good example to use, the like in a foot team,
- 8:00when you start to know your teammates a bit better, you like you
- 8:05you know their strengths and weaknesses, and you know where you should go to
- 8:09make their skills and things shine. That's probably the best thing for us at
- 8:16the moment. It does. It does sound tighter as well. I mean
- 8:18the first EP felt good, but then when we listen to this one,
- 8:22it just sounds tighter again. Yeah, things just get into place a lot,
- 8:28lot better than the first time, a lot really comfortable. Yeah,
- 8:31I feel and I feel like we're getting closer to finding what our sound will
- 8:35be like. We were jumping around with a lot still feeling around, but
- 8:39we are starting to starting to feel living close now. Very cool. There's
- 8:45only four songs on bouim too super Data, so we might run through them
- 8:48one of the time and you can tell us a bit more about them.
- 8:52So we'll start with the first song, brain Fade, shit shit song,
- 8:56and it's horrible, pretty gooldn't skip get past it first one. Yeah,
- 9:05the first thing you should do is skip track one. So brain Fager was
- 9:09actually one of our originals that we wrote, I think in the first It
- 9:13was in the first three tracks that we'd actually completed, so that was what
- 9:16was left over, and we wanted to say that for the Volume two.
- 9:20Yeah, we were. We actually recorded this in with the Volume one through
- 9:24a session and then we had a sitting there and we were still super happy
- 9:31with the song. It's a good intro song a lot of last sets.
- 9:37Yeah, really good. But yeah, it was a very early early song,
- 9:46but it's still still had the balls to make it to an EP at
- 9:50least. See you let your your baby sister handle the spelling of that one
- 9:54too. Yeah. I don't know if you've noticed this yet, but we're
- 9:58not very good at spell. You don't have made. As long as you
- 10:01can play an instrument, doesn't matter of you can spell or not. Dropouts.
- 10:07I think the second song is a new Empire, which we've probably discussed.
- 10:11So we'll move under your cover of Soulfly's song Pain, which features Jimmy
- 10:16B. Yeah. Tim, Yeah, yeah, good friend from those left
- 10:22Behind. He brings the ruckets, he brings the energy, he brings a
- 10:26fucking great Mats Cavalier impersonation. If you're familiar with soul Fly, you won't
- 10:33even think it's Tim, you will think it's Cavalier. Yeah, Yeah,
- 10:41there you go on. Yeah, so that was a cover song. That
- 10:45was actually one that I brought to the band for a bit of fun.
- 10:48It's challenging, I have to say, as on a live set, it's
- 10:50a pretty challenging song to sing in the booth. It was all right,
- 10:54but it's good, fun, fun new metal song. It's like I was
- 11:00a little bit skeptical when we when it first got floated, and then I
- 11:03heard it done and it sounds great. Did you say? Yeah? Well,
- 11:11and there you be closed us up with Compatible Blood. Great great song
- 11:15names goes by the way. I like it. Thank you, yeah,
- 11:16thank you. I think that's felt that one a little bit differently as well.
- 11:20It's got four syllables serious, it doesn't fucking well all about that rhythm.
- 11:28Yeah, so that's that's actually well, it's funny that we've done this
- 11:33way, but that's actually our usually our closing song of a set as well.
- 11:37So it's a good finisher. We think everyone should agree with that.
- 11:41It should give you, shouldn't leave you wanting more. I find with Compatible
- 11:46Blood it and it's definitely got like probably a deeper new metal ties because we
- 11:52bring out the seven string guitar and the five string bass and like it's real
- 11:56low and like a sort of feel so very cool. And then what's next
- 12:05to you, guys? You've got any shows lined up? Yeah, we've
- 12:09got two coming up. We've got the nineteenth of April at Sterling North at
- 12:15the Traveler's Rest, which is the Moodoo warm up, and that is with
- 12:22Hidden Intent, Shadow Monarchy and Hell Machine, Something Prepared, getting the Road
- 12:31from Us. And then on the twentieth we've got the actual Vodoo show,
- 12:37which is like our first show import period on our home turf, and that
- 12:46again is with Hidden Intent, Life Pilot, Heal Machine, coult Code,
- 12:52Those Left Behind, which I think means that we might get a little taste
- 12:58of Timmy B on the stage, Jimmy B with Suffered, Shadow Broke and
- 13:05when silence breaks. So how good a hitting and Chen they're they're probably one
- 13:09of the hardest working bands in this country. And absolutely no days off.
- 13:16No, they don't don't even know what that is. Yeah, where can
- 13:24people find out more about these shows? Guys? What the socials to get
- 13:26hold you on? So we're on Instagram and Facebook. If you just look
- 13:33up stuff of the Avenue or one Handle and figure out how we spill ship.
- 13:39Yeah that's the hard but she can swipe it in and you get straight
- 13:43there. So it goes been absolutely pleasure talk again. The new single,
- 13:50A New Empire is four PM. Queensland, so five pm Southern time this
- 13:54Friday should be getting premiered, so better luck with the guys. She's a
- 13:58fucking good song. Thank you, I appreciate I appreciate that I
