  It's

  of

  scripture.
• 2:29
  One
• 2:29
  of

  my

  favorites.
• 2:30
  It's
• 2:30
  really,
• 2:30
  it's
• 2:31
  kind
• 2:31
  of
• 2:31
  a
• 2:31
  biblical
• 2:32
  lost
• 2:32
  and
• 2:32
  found.
• 2:34
  It's
• 2:34
  a
• 2:34
  modern
• 2:35
  parable
• 2:37
  about
• 2:37
  what
• 2:37
  was
• 2:37
  lost
• 2:38
  and
• 2:38
  what

• 2:40
  My
• 2:40
  name
• 2:40
  is
• 2:41
  Dr.
• 2:41
  Brad
• 2:41
  Miller
• 2:41
  and
• 2:42
  we're
• 2:42
  diving
• 2:43
  into
• 2:43
  this
• 2:44
  kind
• 2:44
  of
• 2:44
  really
• 2:44
  this
• 2:45
  fascinating
• 2:45
  passage
• 2:46
  from
• 2:46
  Luke
• 2:47
  that
• 2:48
  reminds
• 2:49
  me
• 2:49
  of
• 2:51
  times
• 2:51
  when
• 2:51
  I
• 2:52
  may
• 2:52
  be
• 2:52
  hiking
• 2:52
  with
• 2:52
  my
• 2:53
  wife
• 2:53
  in
• 2:53
  the
• 2:53
  woods.
• 2:53
  And
• 2:54
  you
• 2:54
  know
• 2:55
  how
• 2:55
  in
• 2:55
  sometimes
• 2:56
  those
• 2:56
  wood
• 2:56
  wooded
• 2:57
  trails
• 2:58
  you
• 2:58
  can
• 2:59
  sometimes
• 3:00
  discover
• 3:00
  something
• 3:00
  that
• 3:01
  may,
• 3:02
  you
• 3:02
  may
• 3:02
  have
• 3:02
  thought
• 3:02
  that
• 3:03
  you
• 3:03
  lost.
• 3:04
  One
• 3:04
  time
• 3:05
  I
• 3:05
  thought
• 3:05
  I
• 3:05
  lost
• 3:05
  my
• 3:06
  phone
• 3:06
  and
• 3:07
  I
• 3:07
  went
• 3:07
  into
• 3:07
  a
• 3:07
  bit
• 3:07
  of
• 3:08
  a
• 3:08
  panic,
• 3:08
  went
• 3:08
  back
• 3:08
  and
• 3:09
  forth
• 3:09
  on
• 3:09
  the
• 3:09
  trail
• 3:11
  and
• 3:12
  realized
• 3:13
  it
• 3:13
  was
• 3:13
  in
• 3:14
  my
• 3:14
  backpack
• 3:14
  the
• 3:15
  whole
• 3:15
  time.
• 3:16
  But
• 3:16
  we
• 3:16
  were
• 3:16
  looking
• 3:17
  for
• 3:17
  it,
• 3:17
  that's
• 3:17
  for
• 3:17
  sure.
• 3:17
  And
• 3:18
  we
• 3:18
  spent
• 3:18
  some
• 3:18
  time
• 3:18
  and
• 3:19
  some
• 3:19
  energy
• 3:19
  looking
• 3:19
  for
• 3:19
  it
• 3:20
  because
• 3:20
  it
• 3:20
  was
• 3:20
  important.
• 3:21
  It
• 3:21
  was
• 3:21
  a
• 3:21
  moment
• 3:22
  of
• 3:22
  panic.
• 3:23
  So
• 3:25
  when
• 3:26
  we
• 3:26
  finally
• 3:26
  figured
• 3:27
  it
• 3:27
  out,
• 3:27
  it
• 3:27
  was
• 3:27
  a
• 3:27
  laugh
• 3:28
  and
• 3:28
  a
• 3:28
  moment
• 3:28
  of
• 3:28
  joy,
• 3:29
  but
• 3:30
  got
• 3:30
  me
• 3:30
  thinking
• 3:30
  about
• 3:31
  today's
• 3:31
  scripture.
• 3:31
  From
• 3:32
  Luke
• 3:32
  15
• 3:32
  we
• 3:33
  encounter
• 3:34
  Jesus
• 3:34
  telling
• 3:35
  these
• 3:35
  two
• 3:36
  parallel
• 3:36
  stories
• 3:36
  about
• 3:37
  lost
• 3:38
  things,
• 3:38
  the
• 3:38
  lost
• 3:38
  sheep
• 3:39
  and
• 3:39
  the
• 3:39
  lost
• 3:39
  coin.
• 3:41
  But
• 3:41
  here's
• 3:41
  what's
• 3:42
  really
• 3:42
  interesting.
• 3:42
  These
• 3:42
  stories
• 3:43
  aren't
• 3:43
  just
• 3:43
  about
• 3:43
  lost
• 3:44
  things
• 3:45
  or
• 3:46
  animals.
• 3:48
  It's
• 3:48
  really
• 3:49
  about
• 3:49
  Jesus
• 3:52
  showing
• 3:53
  that
• 3:54
  hanging
• 3:54
  out
• 3:54
  with
• 3:55
  people
• 3:55
  who
• 3:55
  care
• 3:56
  in
• 3:56
  that
• 3:56
  matter,
• 3:58
  that
• 3:58
  lost
• 3:58
  people
• 3:59
  is
• 4:00
  what
• 4:00
  was
• 4:00
  really
• 4:00
  made
• 4:00
  such
• 4:01
  a
• 4:01
  steward.
• 4:02
  So
• 4:03
  let's
• 4:04
  look
• 4:04
  at
• 4:04
  some
• 4:04
  points
• 4:04
  to
• 4:05
  ponder
• 4:05
  about
• 4:05
  this.
• 4:06
  The
• 4:07
  first
• 4:07
  one
• 4:07
  is
• 4:07
  the
• 4:07
  point
• 4:08
  of
• 4:08
  radical
• 4:08
  inclusion.
• 4:11
  You
• 4:11
  know,
• 4:11
  I
• 4:11
  host
• 4:11
  a
• 4:12
  podcast
• 4:12
  with
• 4:13
  people
• 4:13
  who
• 4:14
  have
• 4:14
  been
• 4:14
  impacted
• 4:15
  by
• 4:15
  cancer
• 4:16
  and
• 4:16
  I
• 4:17
  learned
• 4:17
  that
• 4:17
  sometimes
• 4:17
  people
• 4:17
  just
• 4:18
  want
• 4:18
  to
• 4:18
  know
• 4:18
  that
• 4:18
  they've
• 4:19
  heard
• 4:19
  and
• 4:19
  that
• 4:19
  they
• 4:20
  belong
• 4:20
  and
• 4:20
  they
• 4:20
  want
• 4:21
  to
• 4:21
  hear
• 4:21
  this
• 4:21
  story
• 4:22
  shared.
• 4:23
  And
• 4:24
  I
• 4:24
  think
• 4:24
  that's
• 4:24
  what
• 4:24
  was
• 4:25
  going
• 4:25
  on
• 4:25
  with
• 4:25
  it
• 4:25
  with
• 4:26
  about
• 4:26
  their
• 4:26
  cancer
• 4:27
  stories.
• 4:27
  And
• 4:28
  I
• 4:28
  believe
• 4:28
  that's
• 4:28
  what's
• 4:28
  going
• 4:28
  on
• 4:29
  here
• 4:29
  with
• 4:29
  Jesus.
• 4:29
  He's
• 4:30
  having
• 4:30
  dinner
• 4:30
  with
• 4:30
  people
• 4:31
  that
• 4:33
  other
• 4:33
  people,
• 4:33
  the
• 4:34
  society
• 4:34
  as
• 4:34
  it
• 4:35
  were,
• 4:35
  Pharisees
• 4:36
  and
• 4:36
  Jewish
• 4:37
  leaders
• 4:37
  had
• 4:37
  written
• 4:37
  them
• 4:38
  off.
• 4:39
  The
• 4:39
  religious
• 4:39
  leaders
• 4:40
  were
• 4:40
  scandalized.
• 4:41
  He
• 4:41
  would
• 4:41
  hang
• 4:41
  out
• 4:41
  with,
• 4:42
  quote,
• 4:42
  sinners.
• 4:44
  But
• 4:44
  here's
• 4:44
  the
• 4:44
  thing.
• 4:45
  Jesus
• 4:45
  was
• 4:45
  demonstrating
• 4:46
  that
• 4:46
  everyone,
• 4:49
  and
• 4:49
  I
• 4:49
  mean
• 4:49
  everyone,
• 4:50
  has
• 4:51
  worth.
• 4:53
  Reminds
• 4:53
  me
• 4:53
  how
• 4:53
  my
• 4:53
  granddaughter
• 4:54
  is.
• 4:55
  They
• 4:55
  seem
• 4:55
  to
• 4:56
  make
• 4:56
  friends
• 4:56
  easily
• 4:57
  on
• 4:57
  the
• 4:57
  playground
• 4:58
  and
• 4:58
  places
• 4:58
  where
• 4:58
  they're
• 4:59
  at
• 4:59
  without
• 5:00
  judgment.
• 5:00
  And
• 5:00
  I've
• 5:01
  noticed
• 5:01
  this.
• 5:01
  They
• 5:02
  hang
• 5:02
  out,
• 5:02
  you
• 5:03
  know,
• 5:03
  with
• 5:04
  people
• 5:04
  that
• 5:04
  speak
• 5:05
  different
• 5:05
  languages
• 5:05
  than
• 5:05
  them,
• 5:06
  different
• 5:06
  colors,
• 5:06
  different
• 5:07
  backgrounds,
• 5:07
  things
• 5:07
  like
• 5:08
  that.
• 5:09
  There's
• 5:09
  no
• 5:09
  judgment,
• 5:10
  they're
• 5:10
  just
• 5:10
  having
• 5:10
  fun.
• 5:12
  And
• 5:12
  I
• 5:12
  think
• 5:12
  we
• 5:12
  adults
• 5:13
  can
• 5:13
  learn
• 5:13
  something
• 5:14
  from
• 5:15
  children
• 5:15
  in
• 5:15
  that.
• 5:15
  In
• 5:16
  that
• 5:16
  matter.
• 5:17
  The
• 5:18
  second
• 5:18
  point
• 5:18
  to
• 5:18
  ponder
• 5:19
  is
• 5:19
  the
• 5:19
  mathematics
• 5:20
  of
• 5:20
  grace.
• 5:22
  Here's
• 5:22
  a
• 5:22
  dad
• 5:22
  joke
• 5:23
  for
• 5:23
  you.
• 5:23
  What
• 5:24
  did
• 5:24
  the
• 5:24
  calculator
• 5:25
  say
• 5:25
  to
• 5:25
  the
• 5:25
  math
• 5:25
  students?
• 5:26
  You
• 5:26
  can
• 5:26
  count
• 5:26
  on
• 5:27
  me.
• 5:28
  That's
• 5:28
  just
• 5:29
  a
• 5:29
  silly
• 5:29
  way
• 5:29
  of
• 5:29
  saying
• 5:30
  that
• 5:31
  people
• 5:31
  count.
• 5:32
  Okay.
• 5:34
  And
• 5:35
  fascinating
• 5:35
  both
• 5:35
  stories
• 5:36
  here
• 5:37
  that
• 5:38
  the
• 5:38
  focus
• 5:38
  is
• 5:39
  on
• 5:39
  the
• 5:40
  one
• 5:40
  who
• 5:40
  was
• 5:41
  lost
• 5:41
  rather
• 5:41
  than
• 5:42
  on
• 5:42
  the
• 5:42
  many.
• 5:43
  One
• 5:43
  sheep
• 5:44
  out
• 5:44
  of
• 5:44
  a
• 5:44
  hundred
• 5:44
  and
• 5:45
  one
• 5:45
  coin
• 5:45
  out
• 5:45
  of
• 5:46
  ten.
• 5:47
  In
• 5:47
  our
• 5:47
  efficiency
• 5:48
  driven
• 5:49
  world,
• 5:49
  sometimes
• 5:50
  the
• 5:50
  tendency
• 5:51
  would
• 5:51
  think
• 5:51
  those
• 5:51
  numbers
• 5:52
  don't
• 5:52
  matter.
• 5:53
  Leave
• 5:53
  the
• 5:53
  one
• 5:53
  behind
• 5:54
  and
• 5:54
  go
• 5:54
  with
• 5:54
  the
• 5:54
  rest.
• 5:56
  But
• 5:56
  then
• 5:56
  those
• 5:57
  numbers
• 5:57
  don't
• 5:57
  make
• 5:57
  any
• 5:57
  business
• 5:58
  sense,
• 5:58
  for
• 5:58
  instance,
• 5:59
  do
• 5:59
  they?
• 6:00
  But
• 6:00
  that's
• 6:01
  exactly
• 6:01
  the
• 6:01
  point.
• 6:02
  God's
• 6:02
  love
• 6:03
  doesn't
• 6:03
  operate
• 6:04
  on
• 6:05
  mathematical
• 6:06
  economic
• 6:06
  principles
• 6:07
  that
• 6:07
  we
• 6:07
  might
• 6:07
  know
• 6:08
  culturally.
• 6:10
  It's
• 6:10
  God's
• 6:11
  math,
• 6:11
  it's
• 6:12
  God's
• 6:12
  economics
• 6:13
  that
• 6:13
  everyone
• 6:15
  matters,
• 6:17
  including
• 6:17
  you.
• 6:19
  Third
• 6:19
  point
• 6:19
  is
• 6:19
  about
• 6:20
  the
• 6:20
  celebration
• 6:20
  factor.
• 6:22
  Both
• 6:22
  these
• 6:23
  stories
• 6:23
  have
• 6:23
  a
• 6:23
  party
• 6:24
  at
• 6:24
  the
• 6:24
  end
• 6:24
  and
• 6:24
  that's
• 6:25
  significant.
• 6:26
  I
• 6:26
  know
• 6:27
  my
• 6:27
  wife
• 6:27
  and
• 6:27
  I
• 6:28
  are
• 6:28
  coming
• 6:28
  up
• 6:28
  on
• 6:28
  our
• 6:28
  34th
• 6:29
  anniversary.
• 6:29
  We're
• 6:29
  planning
• 6:30
  some
• 6:30
  celebration
• 6:31
  and
• 6:32
  that's
• 6:32
  crucial.
• 6:32
  Don't
• 6:33
  you
• 6:33
  celebrate
• 6:33
  birthdays
• 6:34
  and
• 6:34
  anniversaries
• 6:35
  and
• 6:37
  Christmas
• 6:38
  and
• 6:38
  New
• 6:39
  Year's
• 6:39
  and
• 6:39
  other
• 6:39
  events?
• 6:41
  So
• 6:42
  I
• 6:42
  know
• 6:43
  in
• 6:43
  our
• 6:43
  case,
• 6:43
  loved
• 6:44
  one
• 6:44
  of
• 6:44
  the
• 6:44
  greatest
• 6:45
  highlights
• 6:45
  was
• 6:45
  seeing
• 6:45
  our
• 6:46
  three
• 6:46
  kids
• 6:46
  graduate
• 6:47
  from
• 6:48
  high
• 6:48
  school.
• 6:49
  Or
• 6:49
  we
• 6:50
  like
• 6:50
  to
• 6:50
  cheer
• 6:50
  on
• 6:51
  some
• 6:51
  of
• 6:51
  our
• 6:51
  favorite
• 6:51
  teams,
• 6:52
  the
• 6:52
  Colts
• 6:52
  and
• 6:52
  the
• 6:53
  Pacers
• 6:53
  and
• 6:53
  the
• 6:53
  Fever.
• 6:55
  Or
• 6:56
  maybe
• 6:56
  we
• 6:56
  just
• 6:56
  celebrate
• 6:57
  small
• 6:57
  victories
• 6:58
  with
• 6:58
  maybe
• 6:59
  some
• 6:59
  of
• 6:59
  the
• 7:00
  people
• 7:01
  impacted
• 7:01
  by
• 7:01
  cancer
• 7:02
  I
• 7:02
  work
• 7:02
  with
• 7:02
  in
• 7:02
  my
• 7:02
  other
• 7:03
  cancer
• 7:03
  groups
• 7:04
  where
• 7:04
  they
• 7:04
  have
• 7:05
  small
• 7:05
  victories.
• 7:06
  Whatever
• 7:06
  it
• 7:06
  is,
• 7:07
  friends
• 7:07
  celebrate
• 7:08
  and
• 7:09
  joy
• 7:09
  is
• 7:09
  multiplied.
• 7:10
  Here's
• 7:11
  your
• 7:11
  action
• 7:11
  step.
• 7:13
  Something
• 7:14
  practical
• 7:14
  that
• 7:14
  you
• 7:14
  can
• 7:14
  do
• 7:15
  this
• 7:15
  week
• 7:15
  is
• 7:15
  identify
• 7:16
  someone
• 7:16
  in
• 7:16
  your
• 7:16
  life
• 7:17
  that
• 7:18
  you
• 7:18
  just
• 7:18
  kind
• 7:18
  of
• 7:18
  sense
• 7:18
  that
• 7:19
  they're
• 7:19
  lost.
• 7:21
  Maybe
• 7:21
  they're
• 7:21
  isolated
• 7:22
  or
• 7:22
  struggling.
• 7:23
  Or
• 7:23
  maybe
• 7:24
  you
• 7:24
  are
• 7:24
  aware
• 7:25
  that
• 7:25
  somehow
• 7:25
  they've
• 7:25
  been
• 7:25
  judged
• 7:26
  by
• 7:26
  others
• 7:28
  and
• 7:28
  reach
• 7:28
  out
• 7:28
  to
• 7:29
  them.
• 7:29
  A
• 7:29
  simple
• 7:29
  phone
• 7:30
  call,
• 7:30
  maybe
• 7:30
  even
• 7:30
  a
• 7:31
  Facebook
• 7:31
  post
• 7:33
  or
• 7:33
  a
• 7:33
  text,
• 7:34
  and
• 7:35
  invite
• 7:35
  them
• 7:36
  to
• 7:36
  get
• 7:36
  connected
• 7:37
  with
• 7:37
  you.
• 7:38
  Have
• 7:38
  a
• 7:38
  call,
• 7:38
  have
• 7:39
  a
• 7:39
  coffee,
• 7:40
  send
• 7:40
  them
• 7:40
  a
• 7:40
  message.
• 7:41
  Be
• 7:41
  the
• 7:42
  person
• 7:42
  that
• 7:42
  matters
• 7:43
  to
• 7:43
  them
• 7:44
  and
• 7:45
  indicate
• 7:45
  that
• 7:46
  they
• 7:46
  matter
• 7:47
  to
• 7:47
  you.
• 7:48
  We're
• 7:49
  going
• 7:49
  to
• 7:49
  pray
• 7:49
  here
• 7:49
  in
• 7:49
  just
• 7:50
  a
• 7:50
  moment,
• 7:50
  but
• 7:51
  before
• 7:51
  we
• 7:51
  do,
• 7:51
  I
• 7:51
  just
• 7:51
  want
• 7:52
  to
• 7:52
  remind
• 7:52
  you
• 7:52
  that
• 7:52
  we
• 7:52
  have
• 7:52
  a
• 7:53
  great
• 7:53
  resource
• 7:53
  for
• 7:53
  you.
• 7:54
  It's

• 8:05
  Oh
• 8:06
  God,
• 8:06
  you
• 8:06
  are
• 8:06
  divine.
• 8:07
  Love
• 8:07

  even

  when
• 8:10
  we
• 8:10
  feel

  lost
• 8:11
  or
• 8:11
  unworthy.
• 8:12
  Help
• 8:12
  us
• 8:13
  to
• 8:13
  be
• 8:13
  seekers
• 8:13
  too.
• 8:13
  Not
• 8:14
  of
• 8:14
  perfection,
• 8:14
  but
• 8:15
  of
• 8:15
  connection.
• 8:16
  Give

  us

  as

  you

  us.
• 8:32
  Amen.

  I
