Remember when we learned how to ask for a water break? Luna: Oh yeah. 'Kann ich Wasser trinken?' That was useful. I actually used that last week. Lucas: That's awesome. Today we're staying at the gym, but we're focusing on something small but super handy: asking for a towel. Luna: A towel. Yes. I always forget mine. So what's the first phrase? Lucas: The most basic one: 'Ich brauche ein Handtuch.' Let's say it together. Ich brauche ein Handtuch. Luna: Ich brauche ein Handtuch. That's "I need a towel." Right? Lucas: Exactly. Handtuch is the towel. Let's hear it again. Ich brauche ein Handtuch. Luna: Ich brauche ein Handtuch. Okay, I've got that. Lucas: Great. Now, if you're looking for them, you can ask: 'Wo sind die Handtücher?' Luna: Wo sind die Handtücher? Where are the towels. Lucas: Perfect. Die Handtücher, plural. Let's practice that. Wo sind die Handtücher? Luna: Wo sind die Handtücher? That rolls off the tongue. Lucas: You can also be more polite and ask: 'Haben Sie ein Handtuch für mich?' Luna: Haben Sie ein Handtuch für mich? Do you have a towel for me? Lucas: Yes. Sie is formal, so it's polite. Let's say it slowly: Ha-ben Sie ein Hand-tuch für mich? Luna: Haben Sie ein Handtuch für mich? I like that one. Lucas: Now, if someone points you to the towels, they might say: 'Die Handtücher sind dort.' Luna: Die Handtücher sind dort. The towels are there. Lucas: Exactly. And finally, a simple request: 'Kann ich ein Handtuch haben?' Luna: Kann ich ein Handtuch haben? Can I have a towel? That's straightforward. Lucas: Let's do a quick scene. Imagine I'm at the gym desk. You come up and say: 'Haben Sie ein Handtuch für mich?' Luna: Haben Sie ein Handtuch für mich? Lucas: I say: 'Ja, die Handtücher sind dort.' Luna: Ah, so they're over there. Got it. Then I could say: 'Danke.' Lucas: Perfect. So let's review all five phrases. Repeat after me: Ich brauche ein Handtuch. Luna: Ich brauche ein Handtuch.
