- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:20Speaker 2: But let's go ahead and jump into han solo The
- 0:25Speaker 2: Hunt for the Falcon.
- 0:30Speaker 3: By Rodney Barnes.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Mm hmmm uh.
- 0:33Speaker 3: And I don't have the issue in front of me
- 0:35Speaker 3: because my issue actually can't damage, so I just send
- 0:37Speaker 3: it back to Amazon.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Oh no, okay, so I it's it's written by Rodney Barnes,
- 0:42Speaker 2: pencils by Raymond Rosannas, and I think there's the same
- 0:50Speaker 2: cover artists, which is Raymond Rosannas also, I think yes.
- 1:01Speaker 3: So this series is basically on he's sick and tired
- 1:09Speaker 3: of the civilized life. It does not talk about how
- 1:12Speaker 3: he lost the Falcon anymore than The Force Awakens does. Really, yeah,
- 1:19Speaker 3: but it goes into him trying to recover it and
- 1:25Speaker 3: kind of coming to terms with the realization that he
- 1:30Speaker 3: has to protect the others around him and he can't
- 1:33Speaker 3: just go barreling into the unknown.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Basically, this man has a midlife crisis at the age
- 1:40Speaker 2: of sixty is basically what this story is. Basically what
- 1:46Speaker 2: this story is about, which, like I think that's like
- 1:50Speaker 2: the biggest criticism I have over this. Like when I
- 1:56Speaker 2: first started reading it, I was like.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Oh no, I don't think I'm gonna like this story.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Because he's kind of introduced in the first issue as
- 2:08Speaker 2: kind of a douchebag. He he owns like this like
- 2:16Speaker 2: race track or something, and like he hires like all
- 2:19Speaker 2: of these racers and he's like, hey, I don't like
- 2:23Speaker 2: the way you're racing. I'm gonna get into this vehicle
- 2:26Speaker 2: and I'm gonna win the race. And he wins the race.
- 2:31Speaker 2: He's like, yeah, I did it. And then they're like, hey,
- 2:34Speaker 2: actually you're disqualified because you never registered as a racer.
- 2:40Speaker 2: And like, I was a little confused by this because
- 2:43Speaker 2: like I'm like, dude, you own all of this.
- 2:50Speaker 3: I think he just owns the one racer. I don't
- 2:54Speaker 3: think he owned the track. Like I think he and
- 2:57Speaker 3: Lando were like owners of individual racers.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Uh okay, okay, okay, okay, okay.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yeah, but he's left Leiah at this point, like not
- 3:10Speaker 3: involved anymore. And there's flashbacks in here that Barnes actually
- 3:14Speaker 3: really does a great job with articulating like, hey, these
- 3:17Speaker 3: were the problems that came up. Hank wanted to be
- 3:20Speaker 3: the fun parent, yeah, and couldn't handle responsibilities any longer. Basically, so.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I'm not gonna say I have a huge issue with this,
- 3:34Speaker 2: but like, how do you feel about that in regards
- 3:39Speaker 2: to who Han was as a character previous to the
- 3:44Speaker 2: sequel trilogy, to how he was portrayed in the sequel trilogy,
- 3:51Speaker 2: to what this book was trying to like transition the
- 3:56Speaker 2: two characters, Like how do you how do you feel
- 4:00Speaker 2: about that transition?
- 4:03Speaker 3: I think the transition was handled better with the Last
- 4:06Speaker 3: Shot novel, which I have been trying to get us
- 4:08Speaker 3: to read and we have just failed ethically, I'm getting it.
- 4:13Speaker 3: But Daniel jose Older does a really great job with
- 4:17Speaker 3: that transition and kind of bridging the gaps kind of
- 4:22Speaker 3: sort of in align with that. I don't feel it
- 4:27Speaker 3: was handled necessarily very well in this well, So I
- 4:32Speaker 3: will say this too, I really enjoy who Han is
- 4:36Speaker 3: as a character in Legends. You can see where Disney
- 4:42Speaker 3: chose to go off the path and said Legends did
- 4:46Speaker 3: this we need a broken like we need to break
- 4:50Speaker 3: our characters.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I don't like this idea of especially as I'm gonna
- 4:58Speaker 2: get a little real with you guys, as a father myself,
- 5:04Speaker 2: as somebody who literally told Abby when we had the
- 5:11Speaker 2: con when we had the whole conversation of like holy crap,
- 5:15Speaker 2: We're gonna have a kid? Can we afford this? Are
- 5:18Speaker 2: we ready for this? And all this other stuff. I
- 5:20Speaker 2: literally said, Abby, I do not want to be defined
- 5:24Speaker 2: as a father. I want to have my own identity.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I want to have all these things and everything else.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I am not okay with Disney saying, hey, this is
- 5:37Speaker 2: Hans Solo.
- 5:39Speaker 1: He cannot evolve.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Oh yeah, And that's essentially what.
- 5:44Speaker 1: They do now.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Again, there is a moment at the end of this
- 5:50Speaker 2: that's like, hey, we got through it right, But literally
- 5:57Speaker 2: to the end, there's a where he is having a
- 6:01Speaker 2: hard conversation with Chewi and he's like, Okay, I have
- 6:08Speaker 2: to care about you. You have a family. We gotta
- 6:14Speaker 2: just leave. We gotta just leave. Everything will be okay
- 6:18Speaker 2: the moment, and again it's this idea of the addict.
- 6:24Speaker 2: It's the guy who's always seeking the thrill. The moment
- 6:34Speaker 2: that Han gets an inkling of a chance to get
- 6:37Speaker 2: the falcon again, he's like, we're not leaving here without it.
- 6:41Speaker 2: It's just like, dude, you literally had the conversation with
- 6:45Speaker 2: Chewy literally half a page ago.
- 6:49Speaker 1: What happened.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Yeah, And that's the biggest issue that I have with
- 6:54Speaker 3: Han Solo. In and I don't know honestly, if I
- 7:00Speaker 3: want to ever see him actively leave Leah and Ben,
- 7:04Speaker 3: like I think that would genuinely break my heart, because
- 7:09Speaker 3: I do think people can evolve and get to a
- 7:12Speaker 3: point where they can go, Okay, you know what, I
- 7:14Speaker 3: have this responsibility. I it like I need to focus
- 7:19Speaker 3: in on this, and eventually I'll get there. I'll get
- 7:22Speaker 3: like the kid will be old enough kind of thing.
- 7:27Speaker 3: And like I mean by the time that he's like
- 7:31Speaker 3: got his speeder and stuff, and like Ben is breaking
- 7:34Speaker 3: the droid, I'm like, dude, the kid's about to go
- 7:37Speaker 3: off the Jedi training Academy. Like you're literally almost done
- 7:41Speaker 3: with responsibility basically. Yeah. And so that's my biggest critique
- 7:49Speaker 3: of Han Solo as a character, because I love what
- 7:53Speaker 3: Legends does with him and letting him evolve and take
- 7:56Speaker 3: on a different path and realize, like, hey, I do scoundreling,
- 8:01Speaker 3: but I don't have to and I can always go
- 8:03Speaker 3: back to that.
- 8:04Speaker 2: And also he has emotions, m like in this book,
- 8:10Speaker 2: like it is like pulling teeth for him to have
- 8:14Speaker 2: any type of emotion other than hey, let's go get
- 8:17Speaker 2: the falcon, which like one thing I don't know if
- 8:23Speaker 2: it's necessarily like an inconsistency. But there's a moment in
- 8:29Speaker 2: two different moments in this UH series where like he's
- 8:34Speaker 2: looking at a photo of him and Ben side by side.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Ben is as tall as him, So I'm like, yeah,
- 8:46Speaker 2: that's interesting, and then all the flashbacks he's a little kid.
- 8:54Speaker 1: In my mind.
- 8:58Speaker 2: If Han Solo is the way that he is, would
- 9:04Speaker 2: he be visiting Ben at the academy? Where did that photo.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Take place? You know?
- 9:16Speaker 4: So that's kind of the biggest question right in what
- 9:22Speaker 4: we don't know about Luke's Jedi Academy.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Because from everything that I've kind of gathered from what
- 9:33Speaker 3: you and I have read and everything, Luke does treat
- 9:41Speaker 3: been like family. But he also is very stringent on hey,
- 9:47Speaker 3: we're Jedi nets, we don't have attached attacks, whereas the
- 9:50Speaker 3: Luke Skywalker and legends knew, Hey, I'm going to be
- 9:53Speaker 3: raising a bunch of Jedi who already have attachments and
- 9:57Speaker 3: we just need to work with that instead of breaking that,
- 10:00Speaker 3: and so he almost lets So I think it's a
- 10:04Speaker 3: battle with Luke that we haven't seen necessarily to know
- 10:09Speaker 3: does he allow then to go off on family vacation
- 10:12Speaker 3: trips and such or is he kind of like, yeah,
- 10:17Speaker 3: you get like one visiting year kind of thing. Yeah,
- 10:21Speaker 3: that we don't know.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I'm curious to see if they will ever touch that
- 10:25Speaker 2: at all. Yeah, but it was it was just something
- 10:29Speaker 2: that I immediately noticed when I saw the photo of
- 10:33Speaker 2: an older bin with his long hair right next to
- 10:37Speaker 2: Han Solo. So I was like, hmm, is this because
- 10:41Speaker 2: he goes and sees him? Is this because I can
- 10:45Speaker 2: see I'll back myself up a little bit. I can
- 10:48Speaker 2: see there being a possibility of Han saying like, hey,
- 10:54Speaker 2: luke Ef your rules, I'm gonna go see my son
- 10:57Speaker 2: and like flies to the academy to go see him.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a possibility.
- 11:04Speaker 3: And I could definitely see that too, But I also
- 11:11Speaker 3: don't know because of kind of where this takes place.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Like so at this point Kylo has already gone dark side.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Yes, so.
- 11:26Speaker 3: I the Rise of Kylo wren when does that take place?
- 11:36Speaker 3: So this comment is so the hunt for uh the
- 11:40Speaker 3: Falcon takes place between thirty one and thirty four a
- 11:45Speaker 3: b y. Rise of Kylo Wrenn takes place twenty eight
- 11:48Speaker 3: a b Y. So this isn't even like right after
- 11:52Speaker 3: Kylo or Ben went back went bad is like, so,
- 11:58Speaker 3: I don't know. I do enjoy what Rodney wrote. I
- 12:02Speaker 3: just don't know if I like how we went about
- 12:06Speaker 3: the story.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Yeah, like I I do. I do like the the
- 12:19Speaker 2: hearts to heart, like the heart to hearts that him
- 12:21Speaker 2: and chew we have throughout the story.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Cheweye is the best friend.
- 12:26Speaker 2: He's always gonna have the harder conversations with him because
- 12:29Speaker 2: like he knows, like, hey, like no matter what, Yeah, like,
- 12:33Speaker 2: Han's not gonna kill me if I say these things
- 12:35Speaker 2: to him.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Right, But he also struggles to have that conversation because
- 12:40Speaker 3: he So he has two separate conversations with Leah about
- 12:44Speaker 3: how Han is doing one in the future one in
- 12:47Speaker 3: the past, and he still isn't enough. He still isn't
- 12:52Speaker 3: brave enough to go a dude, you're being an idiot,
- 12:56Speaker 3: Like Hans talks about how Chewey has his own family
- 13:00Speaker 3: with like Lumpy who now goes by Waru.
- 13:03Speaker 5: And I think her name is Mala, and yet consistently
- 13:18Speaker 5: pulls them away and stuff, and like, clearly this is
- 13:22Speaker 5: also the issue that I have.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Is so in the Force Awakens, doesn't Hans say Plutt
- 13:32Speaker 3: had it? What are you talking? Like? Duquine must have
- 13:35Speaker 3: sold it to him or something. So this is the
- 13:38Speaker 3: other issue that I have is like, how did you
- 13:40Speaker 3: let this story go when that's what Hans says to
- 13:44Speaker 3: Ray when they get the falcon back. It's like I
- 13:49Speaker 3: told you that some of the had it, Like that
- 13:54Speaker 3: must have been where Duquine sold it. I don't know
- 13:57Speaker 3: how you let unk Ar have it at the end,
- 14:00Speaker 3: Garplue have it and have that be in the Force Awakens.
- 14:07Speaker 1: That's an inconsistency.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a huge inconsistency that doesn't make a lot
- 14:13Speaker 3: of sense because Han is Han is at the end
- 14:16Speaker 3: of this is very much like I'm gonna go back
- 14:19Speaker 3: and get it one day, like I know she's there.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Which like again with the ending of this, they are
- 14:30Speaker 2: just like.
- 14:32Speaker 1: They just fly off right.
- 14:36Speaker 3: And Han ends up back with Lando at the racing.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Track exactly whereas when we meet Han in Force.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Awakens, he is with Chewy.
- 14:49Speaker 2: He's with Chewy being a scoundrel. Again, I think it
- 14:55Speaker 2: would have been better off with like saying, hey, we'll
- 15:00Speaker 2: stick around, yeah.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Because then he would have at least had less of
- 15:06Speaker 3: an inconsistency. And we don't know when exactly this one
- 15:09Speaker 3: takes place, so it's very feasible that she was like, hey,
- 15:12Speaker 3: like I need some money, dude, and like that's how
- 15:16Speaker 3: they end up back together. But still, like I it's
- 15:22Speaker 3: just stuff like that that makes me mad. And because
- 15:25Speaker 3: I read Lando Double or Nothing, which is like the
- 15:28Speaker 3: first thing that Rodney Barnes wrote for Star Wars, but
- 15:31Speaker 3: I haven't read anything since until here. He's done a
- 15:34Speaker 3: lot of adaptations. He's done The Mandalorian, he's done Ahsoka,
- 15:39Speaker 3: and I think he's doing Book Above Effect, and he
- 15:42Speaker 3: did Inquisitors, so he's done a lot for Star Wars.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Right now, I just don't I'm frustrated, and I wish
- 15:52Speaker 3: I could pull up my Force Awaken's comic or even
- 15:55Speaker 3: pull out my Force Awaken's book, but I can't do
- 15:58Speaker 3: it right now.
- 15:58Speaker 2: So well, I'm trying to figure well, I'm trying to
- 16:05Speaker 2: find the flashback to Leya and Chewy's conversation in the past.
- 16:17Speaker 2: I don't remember.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Which it's in one of the later issues.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Okay, let's see here, because I saw something that was
- 16:26Speaker 2: actually I think they did it on purpose, because like
- 16:31Speaker 2: it's not on issue four, it might be issue three.
- 16:38Speaker 2: It is an art choice that I thought was kind
- 16:42Speaker 2: of neat that, Like, I don't think a lot of
- 16:46Speaker 2: people would have seen it's not one issue three, but
- 16:49Speaker 2: it's not on issue five?
- 16:51Speaker 1: What the world?
- 16:54Speaker 2: When I'm looking at these previews, are they just like
- 16:56Speaker 2: not popping up?
- 17:02Speaker 1: I'm so confused because here's issue is. It's not an
- 17:07Speaker 1: issue one? Is it initi one?
- 17:11Speaker 2: Wouldn't make any sense to be an issue one? What
- 17:13Speaker 2: in the world I'm looking at all? Like the panel
- 17:18Speaker 2: layout when it shows all the pages and.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Yeah, not here.
- 17:23Speaker 2: That's so weird. There is literally a panel where Leah
- 17:31Speaker 2: and Chewy are talking and it shows a reflection of
- 17:38Speaker 2: Leah while she is still talking to Chewy while looking
- 17:45Speaker 2: at a photo of Han and Chewey and Chewy's like
- 17:54Speaker 2: belt thing, satchel thing, I can't remember what it is. Yeah, yes,
- 18:01Speaker 2: the bandalier hits the reflection of Leah's face and it
- 18:07Speaker 2: makes it look like she's crying.
- 18:11Speaker 1: And I wondered, like I.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Was interested in, like was that an artistic choice to
- 18:18Speaker 2: like not show her crying, but like show her crying,
- 18:22Speaker 2: you know, yeah, because it's a very emotional conversation of
- 18:27Speaker 2: like because she literally says like I don't want to
- 18:31Speaker 2: leave Han. But basically it's basically her saying like, I
- 18:36Speaker 2: don't want to leave Han, but he's acting a fool, like, yeah,
- 18:39Speaker 2: he can't get his ship together, and I just thought like, hey,
- 18:45Speaker 2: that's kind of a really cool like art thing there.
- 18:51Speaker 3: I yeah, So okay, so I pulled up force wagons
- 18:56Speaker 3: because this was gonna bug me and okay. So he
- 19:02Speaker 3: doesn't say on gar Plut directly, but he says, so,
- 19:08Speaker 3: where'd you get the ship Nima outposts? Jack? Who that
- 19:12Speaker 3: junk yard? Thank you, junk yard told you. We should
- 19:15Speaker 3: have double checked the Western reaches who had it? Duquane.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I stole it from un gar Plutt. He stole it
- 19:21Speaker 3: from the Irving Boys, who stole it from Duquane who
- 19:23Speaker 3: stole it from me? Will you tell him that Han
- 19:27Speaker 3: Solo just strole back the living Falcon for good? So
- 19:33Speaker 3: it's not uncar Plutt because he knew the uncar Plutt
- 19:36Speaker 3: had it, but he also knew it was on Jack who.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Yeah, inconsistency, There is a lot of inconsistencies there that
- 19:47Speaker 2: doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
- 19:51Speaker 1: That that's just annoying.
- 19:54Speaker 2: So I guess you have to just kind of do
- 19:58Speaker 2: what you have to do to make the story. But again,
- 20:02Speaker 2: at that point, you have all of these resources, use them.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Yeah, that can make sense. It would have been one
- 20:10Speaker 3: thing if you weren't on Jack Who at the end,
- 20:12Speaker 3: but you're on Jack Who. So yeah, I don't know.
- 20:17Speaker 3: I came into this going okay, you know what, I
- 20:20Speaker 3: don't hate this. I liked it better than Jedi Knights.
- 20:23Speaker 3: The more we've talked about it, we're angry.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I can't well and the thing, and that's the thing.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Like I think, overall, I think this is an okay story.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Yeah, but.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I think it's an okay story because I don't know,
- 20:43Speaker 2: like I'm even trying to like backtrack my my my
- 20:46Speaker 2: thoughts about like again, character wise, I think Han Solo
- 20:58Speaker 2: of Old is the cool guy that everybody wants to be,
- 21:05Speaker 2: right yep. Making him the stereotypical like high school jock
- 21:14Speaker 2: that can't get over his high school days is a
- 21:18Speaker 2: literal like.
- 21:21Speaker 1: It's I don't need that in Star Wars. Yeah, I
- 21:25Speaker 1: don't like this. Dude literally helps save the galaxy.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Like that, there can always be the Oh
- 21:36Speaker 2: I miss the good old days, right yep?
- 21:39Speaker 1: I miss the good old days.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Everybody misses the good old days. I miss the good
- 21:43Speaker 2: old days, but making him feel like less of a
- 21:49Speaker 2: character because of the fact that you feel like he
- 21:53Speaker 2: cannot evolve as a character feels like a little bit
- 21:57Speaker 2: of a slap in the face.
- 21:59Speaker 3: It does it?
- 22:00Speaker 5: Does?
- 22:04Speaker 3: I think that's the end of that discussion.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so too.
- 22:10Speaker 2: We do plan on doing one more comic book review.
- 22:19Speaker 1: This month, and then.
- 22:23Speaker 2: We have our High Republic rewind basically that we will
- 22:32Speaker 2: get into at the end of the month, I believe.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Yeah. So on the eighteenth we're reviewing the Star Wars
- 22:40Speaker 3: twenty twenty five run, and then on the twenty fifth,
- 22:43Speaker 3: we will be ranking the Higher Republic middle grade books.
- 22:49Speaker 3: So that's all three phases of the middle grade publications
- 22:55Speaker 3: and kind of ranking them talking about like how they
- 22:59Speaker 3: fall into or or if you just read the middle
- 23:02Speaker 3: grade books, would you get a complete story, those kinds
- 23:04Speaker 3: of things. So that's the rest of the month. We
- 23:08Speaker 3: did also just receive our legacy review ARC from Random
- 23:14Speaker 3: Health World, so thank you very much Random House for that.
- 23:19Speaker 3: So originally I had that review scheduled for the ninth
- 23:22Speaker 3: of July, that the embargo date on that is not
- 23:27Speaker 3: actually up until the fourteenth, so we will be reviewing
- 23:31Speaker 3: that live for you guys on the sixteenth, so that's
- 23:35Speaker 3: when you can expect that. Then both Clay and I
- 23:38Speaker 3: will hopefully be settled by that point, be able to
- 23:42Speaker 3: flush things out a little bit better. So yeah, looking
- 23:47Speaker 3: forward to it, guys. But we do have a lot
- 23:49Speaker 3: of comics coming for you guys, like in July we
- 23:52Speaker 3: are talking Doctor Afra, Chaos Agent, and then the new
- 23:57Speaker 3: manga that is coming out, Star Wars Visions Sukomo with
- 24:04Speaker 3: the Legacy review on the sixteenth, and Eyes Like Stars
- 24:07Speaker 3: will probably be on the thirtieth, is what it's looking like.
- 24:11Speaker 3: I don't have an embargo date for that just yet,
- 24:13Speaker 3: but hoping to get that soon.
- 24:15Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, got me very very fun.
- 24:20Speaker 2: But of course, guys, that will be it for the episode.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Thank you so much for being here. This is gonna
- 24:27Speaker 2: be a little bit of a shorter episode because again,
- 24:30Speaker 2: I don't know if I'm going to necessarily grab all
- 24:33Speaker 2: of the news segment that was from last week onto
- 24:37Speaker 2: this episode, so this might be anywhere between like I

- 25:24Speaker 2: more time to actually put out content for our socials,
- 25:29Speaker 2: So of course you can find us at Blue Sky
- 25:33Speaker 2: and Instagram and on threads at Star Wars Alliance that
- 25:38Speaker 2: is s T A R W R s A L

- 25:49Speaker 2: out all on our socials. You'll be seeing more of
- 25:53Speaker 2: us in the July and then onward, so that's gonna
- 26:01Speaker 2: be a whole lot of fun. Go check me out
- 26:04Speaker 2: over at Ranger Alliance as well. Have some cool things
- 26:08Speaker 2: planned out over there. But yeah, Katie, what about you?
