- 0:00Welcome back to another edition of the Be Forever Cool podcast,
- 0:02My Name Is Rex 45. My name is TJ with two rows and
- 0:06coffee. What's going on, man?
- 0:08How are things? Everything's getting colder.
- 0:11It's it's that November weather kicking in, right.
- 0:15I I see. I see the beard is the beard is
- 0:18coming out so that I I know what that's like because for me, you
- 0:21know when I was in Boston, you know after I stopped shaving
- 0:24after September. So by the time December came, I
- 0:27had a halfway decent beard. You know, I'm so used to wearing
- 0:31hoodies or long sleeves just because I'm in New England.
- 0:34Jealous. You're wearing that T-shirt
- 0:36right now. I got you, man.
- 0:38I got you. I'm going to be there in a few
- 0:40days. I got, I got you for sure.
- 0:43But yeah, I know. I was on a call earlier today
- 0:47and or video call and and the people I were talking to man,
- 0:50they were in Chicago and Boston and it was ski hats and sweaters
- 0:54bro. Oh man, that's we got a brutal
- 1:025-6 months of this, so I guess we're getting ready for it now.
- 1:06Yeah, listen, I can't talk. I was in Homestead this past
- 1:11weekend and the past weekend Sunday and did a track day there
- 1:17for the first time and you know it it it it was nice to drive 3
- 1:23hours to Homestead, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:26Because I'm used to 2830 hours when I was up that way, so.
- 1:30How how? Let's talk about your, your
- 1:32track day. I mean I know we're used to
- 1:35drive in what an hour and a half, two hours with traffic.
- 1:41Yeah it's allowed in and like I've been to New York safety
- 1:44track it's about four hours. So.
- 1:46So it's about that was a that was a long trip for me.
- 1:49Yeah, yeah, you know, that's so. But I know you, you're used to,
- 1:52you know, going long distance for tracks.
- 1:55So how'd that feel to go to a track day and three hours away?
- 1:59It it felt pretty good because it was a short track.
- 2:02It was a short trip. And then then you know with with
- 2:06the converted trailer, I used to stay in hotels, but now I stay
- 2:09in RV parks, so. I thought there's a lot more
- 2:15down there than up here soon. Yeah, for sure.
- 2:19There there's there's stuff up north, but I think I don't know
- 2:22what it's like once it gets cold, you know, but definitely
- 2:26there's stuff up north. But you know, traveling and
- 2:29staying at RV parks is RV. I don't think they call parks,
- 2:33but you know campgrounds and and and RV places is definitely
- 2:38different than staying in hotels.
- 2:39For sure. One is cheaper and that's the
- 2:42and and that's the best part. And you can come and go and then
- 2:45you can cook your own food and do everything you need to do.
- 2:47So that's the plus side of it all, you know, But it's
- 2:50definitely different. There you go.
- 2:53So I know you haven't been on the track since what Daytona?
- 2:58So now you did you, did you have all your belongings and
- 3:02everything went well? No, no, no.
- 3:06Forget like tire warmers. No, I had tire warmers and
- 3:09stuff, but definitely. And that's something.
- 3:12It's weird, right? Because once you're in a
- 3:16consistent season, you got all your stuff.
- 3:20But I think I can't speak for everyone but for me not having a
- 3:25consistent schedule. Yeah, I definitely, you know
- 3:29forgot things. You know forgot tables and not
- 3:32not. I mean I had to tie warmers.
- 3:34I I had that. You know, I can check my tire
- 3:36pressure. I have my toolbox.
- 3:38You know what I'm saying? I, I, I I could ride, right.
- 3:41But it it's the it's the ancillary stuff.
- 3:43You know what I'm stuff, the stuff that you need, you know
- 3:45what I'm saying? Not necessary to go riding, but
- 3:47just to make your your weekend more comfortable.
- 3:50You know, I got a nice red chair that you know you can sit in for
- 3:545-6 hours easily without getting you know, getting tired of it
- 3:58type of thing. Probably even longer and like I
- 4:00forgot that. And again, it's not the end of
- 4:01the world, but it's creature comforts, right?
- 4:04You know what? I mean, I know that chair.
- 4:06That chair You used to brag about that chair a lot.
- 4:10I sign that chair, right? That's crucial.
- 4:13Yeah. Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 4:14So, like forgetting those things.
- 4:16So yeah, you know, it it it definitely and just, you know,
- 4:21I'm from the racing background more than I am from the track
- 4:25background, right. I didn't start out doing track
- 4:29days. I jumped.
- 4:30I mean a gym would point out you know even the classroom I
- 4:34Penguin for the for the Friday before race weekend is is a
- 4:37track day. But you know outside of that I
- 4:40didn't do any for a while. So it still feels weird because
- 4:45you know, you, you, you, you, almost you, your body, you know,
- 4:51does this thing around race weekend for a lot of people,
- 4:54regardless of whatever you're racing, regardless of basketball
- 4:57or whatever, you know, it's that it's that fight or flight mode.
- 5:00You know what I'm saying? Like, you know, like things
- 5:03start to happen to your body. You start to get into a certain
- 5:05space and and your mindset and then all of a sudden it's just
- 5:08like, oh, we're not racing. Yeah, that's true.
- 5:12And it's just like oh like so for me it's it's a little
- 5:16different because now it's kind of like it's it's practice.
- 5:20You know it's like, OK go out there.
- 5:22You know I'm going out there trying to you know I was going
- 5:24out there literally trying to just pick through everybody and
- 5:26and you know and I'm on I'm on my RC390 right.
- 5:29And and a lot of big bikes out there and stuff like that.
- 5:32You know, and and my mindset is like, I'll just catch the next
- 5:35person, catch the next person instead of like am I working on
- 5:38anything? I'm like, you know, like I'm not
- 5:40working on anything. I'm just really just trying to
- 5:42pick through traffic and and you know, catch whoever's in front
- 5:45of me. Yeah, that's the go ahead.
- 5:48OK. I was going to say that was
- 5:49that's that's the tricky thing about a a track day.
- 5:52You know some people take it as, you know, practicing to get up
- 5:55to speed and you know trying to make passes and some people are
- 5:59there just to work on things. And for your sake, you know
- 6:02we're so used to racing. So like when we go to a track
- 6:05day, we like it's. We have to find something to
- 6:08work on you know because just so used to race.
- 6:11Exactly. So it took a little bit to
- 6:13settle in into like OK, like you know what I'm saying?
- 6:17Like you got to work on something you know what I'm
- 6:18saying? Like like you know whatever
- 6:19apex, whatever. Figure out something but you got
- 6:21to work on something because you know that's what it is and and
- 6:25you know and it it. So that was that took a little
- 6:28bit for my mind to get into that role and and and you know great
- 6:33like I felt pretty good some good sessions I probably I may
- 6:36even had my you know when I had some open track in front of me I
- 6:40probably even got one of my fastest times on on the on the
- 6:44KTM so I felt really good about that but it is interesting
- 6:47because like I I signed up for the intermediate class my first
- 6:51day at this track group but never used them before or
- 6:53anything like that. So I really didn't know what to
- 6:55expect or anything So I didn't want to go throw myself to the
- 6:58wolves because in the X in the advance group there's you know
- 7:02there's some rules but at the end of the day everybody knows
- 7:05how to ride and and and I'm on a smaller bike so I took the
- 7:08intermediate group. So that was a little bit
- 7:10different because they're all different caliber of riders in
- 7:13there and and and so for me and and and and and I'm pretty sure
- 7:19people who have been doing track days and racing, I probably have
- 7:22more experience with within me showing up and trying to figure
- 7:25it out. But it's weird when I'm, you
- 7:28know on the track with thousands.
- 7:29You know what I mean? It is weird.
- 7:31I almost wish that it was like OK, you know there's three
- 7:35groups you know novice, intermediate in advance but it
- 7:39almost and and and it could be a time thing or whatever could
- 7:42could be but it almost should be breaking up by CCS to a level as
- 7:45well because you know what are the biggest problems I had like
- 7:51I can I can deal with. I can catch guys and gals in the
- 7:54corners and stuff like that. But in a straightaway people
- 7:57pull away from me but then they'll park it in into the into
- 8:00the corners. So then you know and with the
- 8:02rules you really can't pass as in a race.
- 8:06So therefore I'm kind of stuck behind riders that I that you
- 8:10know you know I I would want to get in front of you know by and
- 8:15so by like you know there's I think there's like 7 or 8
- 8:17sessions So you know by like the sixth session you know I was
- 8:21just passing people on the outside.
- 8:22I was just, it was just, it was it was one of those things like
- 8:24like for me to get a really good lap, good laps and I, I had to
- 8:29pass people. And still even even doing that I
- 8:33still didn't get. I was still 3 seconds slower
- 8:36than I what I was when I had no one in front of me.
- 8:38So I had fun. It's a little different big, you
- 8:42know, because you got to practice and there's all type of
- 8:45writers on it, on on on it, and it's a whole different mindset.
- 8:48But you know, I do like it and and I I plan to do more track
- 8:52days regardless if it's with this place or somewhere else.
- 8:58Discrepancy Because now you can't find things to work on
- 9:02because someone's breaking too, you know they're passing on the
- 9:06straight, and then they're breaking too early.
- 9:07Now you got to adjust to their breaking instead of finding
- 9:10something to work on, right? And let me tell you on on a on a
- 9:1442 horsepower bike, it's different than when you're on
- 9:17the R6. 'Cause you're like, hey bro, I'm
- 9:19not breaking and I and I can't hurry up through the corner.
- 9:24Yeah. And I can't gasp past them, you
- 9:26know what I'm saying? Like that, you know, without it
- 9:29making be, you know, it is what it is.
- 9:32I I tended that, I had fun. It was I I felt really good on
- 9:35the bike. You know, I I this bike I've
- 9:39been dealing with all year trying to sort it out.
- 9:42And you know this is the second Daytona was the first round that
- 9:47I felt really good on a bike and then this round to follow it up
- 9:52it, it felt good. Yeah.
- 9:55So you know, I just saw the other day with CCS that they're
- 9:59going to start combining classes, which is something
- 10:03that, you know, for somebody who likes to do a lot of races,
- 10:07that's going to be a problem because now it's just kind of
- 10:09like there's 300 and 400 super bike races and then there's 300
- 10:14and 400 super sport races. So now in a weekend, if I wanted
- 10:18to do a race on my KTMI can either do the the 300 or the 400
- 10:24or both, but only do one race and then there's a 400 GP and
- 10:29then there's I think it's the GT Lite or the 501 of those things
- 10:33for the the 20, the 24 minutes to 25 minute race.
- 10:37So there's not a lot of options. So I'm kind of disappointed that
- 10:40the races are now being combined together instead of keeping them
- 10:44separate, which is something that you know for us.
- 10:48Again, for for myself, I was hoping to do some 400 races and
- 10:52some 300 races, but now I just got to pick, you know, one or
- 10:57the other. Yeah, that's tough that they
- 11:01decide to do something like that.
- 11:03I mean that's one thing that I'm still trying to figure things
- 11:07out is, you know the rule book. I mean we we all read part of
- 11:12the rule book, but just for our like our class of bikes, only
- 11:16things that we care about. Well, well, I mean like when I
- 11:20first, when I first started, you know, I I knew about the rule
- 11:24book, but I didn't know about the class of riding.
- 11:26So my I started out in Penguin. Racing so I did.
- 11:30I did a couple of races on there on a rented 400, so when the
- 11:34following year came around I got the R6.
- 11:38I deleted the 400 and everything out of the profile.
- 11:42So when I signed, when I signed up for races, it still made me
- 11:45sign up for racer 3 and four, which are which are races for
- 11:50four hundreds and and lower. So I'm out there on A600 racing
- 11:55with four hundreds and I get disqualified, you know, and I'm
- 12:00just like for what you know. And they're like, oh, you got to
- 12:02be in, you got to be in a racer 2 or racer one.
- 12:05And I'm just like, OK, no, who's playing that to me?
- 12:09So them taking them the classes in and out, you know, it's just
- 12:14something that I hope is just playing a little bit better, so.
- 12:18I don't understand why they would take out some races for
- 12:21that particular class. So it's a little more
- 12:24frustrating for you, right? Exactly.
- 12:28You know, I don't know, maybe they're looking at numbers.
- 12:30Maybe a lot of people don't sign up for the 300 races for the 400
- 12:34races. Well a lot of people sign up for
- 12:35the 400 races, so the ninjas probably probably doing better,
- 12:40but you still got, you know the KTMS and and the R threes and
- 12:45and the ninja 3 hundreds and the Hondas and stuff like that.
- 12:48So it may be a consolidation thing, it may be a revamping
- 12:52thing. You know, you know it, it you
- 12:56know it. I don't want to sit here and
- 12:59bash anyone because I don't know the the the reasoning behind it
- 13:03but from a rider's perspective you know now I only the most I
- 13:07can do on my bike is probably 4 races in a weekend outside of
- 13:12Azra 400 if I'm racing CCS Azra now I I know if you look at
- 13:17where we're in some of these other places I think the most is
- 13:20probably 2 races each day if it's a two day round and stuff
- 13:24like that If if you're racing a small bike and other bike so you
- 13:28know I don't I know the insurance and out of it but it
- 13:29definitely less races. Well, I mean, I know, I know.
- 13:35Four races for me in a weekend. That's about a good amount.
- 13:40Some people can do 6 to 8 and I just don't know how.
- 13:45Yeah, oh man, that that's that's a lot, A lot of funs.
- 13:50But it's it's, it's a lot also on the body.
- 13:54Yeah. 4/4 races pretty good. That's what I usually try to do
- 13:57on the weekend, but I don't know the size on the 400 is probably
- 14:02a little. Easier on the body, A little
- 14:04easier on the body for sure. Same thing though.
- 14:06I mean you know, I, you know for the folks that won't like sign
- 14:11up for a lot of races, Good luck to you, good luck to you.
- 14:16That's all I can say. You know I've done 8 races in a
- 14:19weekend, you know what I'm saying?
- 14:20So I've done rounds where it is the the, you know, back in the
- 14:24day, I can say back in the 8 now God is double there, there was a
- 14:28Sprint round. So it's it's it's it would it's
- 14:30double the weekend. So if you normally sign up for
- 14:32four races, you know what I'm saying.
- 14:34Now it's eight races 'cause it's the same race again the next day
- 14:37type of thing. So I've I've done it and it can
- 14:41be done. You know it can it can be done
- 14:45and and you know folks who endure endurance races and stuff
- 14:48like that it can be done. But realistically you know I I
- 14:51I, you know I like to I like to relax a little bit and you know
- 14:54I like to do 4/4 races four or five races is is I think it's a
- 14:58good amount for me. I don't necessarily need to do
- 15:018I, I don't know. I just say I don't need to do 8
- 15:04races because if those, if those rounds came back and it was
- 15:07double, it was Sprint rounds, then I'd be doing them.
- 15:10You just did them, you just knew you had to do them and stuff
- 15:13like that. But realistically, yeah, I'm
- 15:17okay with not doing 8 to 12 races in the weekend.
- 15:21Well, if you're chasing, chasing championship points then.
- 15:26That makes sense, right? You know you want to get as many
- 15:29races as you can out there, right?
- 15:30Overall championship points, Yeah, overall championship
- 15:34points. If you're chasing that or if
- 15:36you're just endurance junkie, you know, I'm saying because you
- 15:39know, you know, you know, like, listen, some people want to do
- 15:42them 100 mile, 100 something mile marathons and all that.
- 15:45I'll do 26. I'm OK You know what I'm saying?
- 15:49But you know what I'm saying. So you know they they they're
- 15:51folks out there that you know they're into the endurance game
- 15:56and and and and you know, I, I, I I dream about it.
- 16:00I I think I can do it. But I've done.
- 16:04I got a friend that allowed in who doesn't stay the night and
- 16:07he just comes down on the race day.
- 16:10He does the GTU and then he does the the dash and he's going
- 16:14home. That's it.
- 16:15Two races. Two races, the longest ones,
- 16:19yeah. Yeah exactly.
- 16:20And one day you know what I mean?
- 16:22So I think for everyone it's it's it's a bit different for
- 16:26sure but you know, I I don't you know I like the smaller bikes
- 16:31you know I mean I like all of them.
- 16:32I I don't think you know if I was racing earlier in my life
- 16:36maybe I'll I'll be racing 1000. But I have no desire not to say
- 16:41I have no desire to raise 1000, but I don't have a desire to
- 16:45raise 1000. I mean, I would definitely take
- 16:491000 on a track day if I had a clear track.
- 16:51But you know, I need like a, you know, like how they do like a
- 16:55test day. Yeah, you know I need just like.
- 16:58Couple people there, Nothing too crazy, right?
- 17:02And you know, and so one of my hopes is to do track days in
- 17:05Europe, right? That's one of my hopes And I'm
- 17:07probably going to start out on my R6, but I, you know like
- 17:10those tracks. I think you probably need to be
- 17:12on a bigger bike because they just bigger tracks but small
- 17:17tracks you know what I'm saying for me and in in in the fatigue
- 17:21part of it because you know the the it's a lot of energy.
- 17:25It is a lot of energy to ride those bike to brake and the gas.
- 17:29It's it's it's all it's more it's the most fatigue you're
- 17:32going to be. So you got to be in the shape
- 17:34that you need to be in to ride those bike and you know some of
- 17:38these tracks in the US I'm not I don't know what the numbers are
- 17:42but a lot of tracks you know the the the lap records on 6
- 17:45hundreds are very good. So you know what I'm saying and
- 17:49and you know they're usually smaller bikes that you did the
- 17:53lap work records are being set on so you know seven 5600 type
- 17:57of thing. So you know it it it's one of
- 18:00those things where you know if if if I can't ride the wheels
- 18:05off of R6 or 600 bike or middle weight bike, what am I going to
- 18:091000 for? That is true.
- 18:13So yeah, you got to you know try to master the scale at least on
- 18:17the bike, bike you have before you move up, You know, that's
- 18:20the proper way to do it. That is the proper way.
- 18:22Like you know you got that bike coming down sideways doing all
- 18:26type of things on that 600 like you're throwing it around like
- 18:28it's a tricycle that when you're doing that then that makes
- 18:32sense. But I, you know, I I find that
- 18:36there are people riding big bikes that probably should be on
- 18:38small bikes. There I said it.
- 18:40I'm not going to upset some people, but it's you can see it.
- 18:45Yeah, that's true. I mean you just want them to
- 18:48develop a better skill as opposed to doing it that way.
- 18:51But you know some some of those leader bikes are more rider
- 18:55friendly nowadays. I rode A600 on the street for
- 18:59seven years before I even thought about a 1000.
- 19:03And and once I got the 1000, I was like, Oh yeah, now, like it
- 19:07was just so much easier to understand, you know, But can't
- 19:11speak for everybody. Nope, can't, can't speak for
- 19:13everyone. And and the beautiful thing
- 19:15about this country is that anybody can do whatever they
- 19:17want to do. So I stay away from the thousand
- 19:20to thousand classes and you know, even the six hundreds at
- 19:25this point, give me the lightweight.
- 19:27Give me the ultra lightweight bikes.
- 19:30You know, I, you know, that's that's just where I am.
- 19:34I do love, I do miss my 600 racing for sure.
- 19:37Even at Homestead this past week, yesterday I was just kind
- 19:40of like I should have brought that bike just to do some track
- 19:44days and stuff like that, 'cause you know, it is, it is fun.
- 19:47But the thing that you learn on these smaller bikes is, is, is
- 19:53it gives you a little different kind of discipline because you
- 19:55know you have to do all the right things to make the bike go
- 19:58fast. You know what I'm saying?
- 20:00And if you do all the right things on a small bike, it's
- 20:03easier to transition up I think when you and and that's how it
- 20:07is for me because I started on a racing SV650I went to a 600,
- 20:14jacked myself up, figured I should sort things out and I
- 20:17went to the R, the RC to to sort it all out.
- 20:20And these last few years is is is been pretty good, feel really
- 20:23good on the bike and it's also maybe faster on the 600.
- 20:28I know on the track for sure racing lines and racing lines is
- 20:34very important. So you don't want to in the
- 20:38braking markers, you don't want to decrease that.
- 20:41You know what I'm saying? You want to you want to, like go
- 20:44faster and increase your braking markers and and and tighten your
- 20:49lines. So you don't want to start on,
- 20:52you know, a faster bucket and jump on something smaller and
- 20:55try to figure it out. Unless you've done it all right.
- 20:57So exactly and Speaking of big bikes, man, let's let's roll
- 21:00right into it. I we, you know let's go into
- 21:02into Moto GP because this past weekend it's pretty wild, man.
- 21:09Pretty wild. Are you Team?
- 21:12Are you Team Peko Or are you Team Martin?
- 21:14I'm Team Ducati, baby. Team Ducati oh, that's a that's
- 21:19a that's a a post on Moto GP site.
- 21:23Now they they're asking if you're a team you're rooting
- 21:26for. Right.
- 21:29I know. It's just close.
- 21:30It's just down to them too. I I also.
- 21:33I've said it before, Ducati wants Peco to win and I'm not a
- 21:40conspiracy theory and I am a Peco fan.
- 21:44But Jorge Martin performance on Sunday was suspect.
- 21:50Oh, hey, Andrea Bastini was like, I'm taking this, I think
- 21:54his, I think Martinez riding was OK.
- 21:58I think he just didn't have a great start.
- 22:03Come on, I mean like I. Mean you finished your fan?
- 22:07Come on, he he he finished what? 4th or 5th?
- 22:125th Yeah. I mean, that track is like, it's
- 22:17all gas pretty much, yeah. It's like there's there's two
- 22:21long straights. I mean, there's a couple tight
- 22:24corners. He was off his game a little
- 22:26bit, but I mean he he didn't ride like a champion in this.
- 22:29Race, Right, Right. Right.
- 22:30So you you you showed the three the three bosses didn't go
- 22:33tinker with his bike at night. Uploaded some data just to say
- 22:37be slower than Pekko. I mean I mean during the the
- 22:42practice and and the qualify and he he he was he was out on pole
- 22:46for a second. I don't know what Alex Marquez
- 22:49was on but I don't know maybe that shook him up a little bit
- 22:55but yeah and who knows like maybe they tinkered it by a
- 22:58faction of a second. It was like, all right by Lat
- 23:0315, he's going to drift away, I promise.
- 23:06You know, because I I don't want to blame the rider because he's
- 23:09a fast guy. He's always been fast and it'd
- 23:12be one thing if he made a mistake, but it was one of those
- 23:14things like he even he was a little bit confused at the end,
- 23:19like, you know, not believe in his performance.
- 23:21And we all get like that for sure, but definitely.
- 23:27I was, you know, again, I'm rooting for Peco to win it.
- 23:30So I don't know why I'm I'm, I'm, I'm saying this, but I it
- 23:33just feels like, you know, if they want team order, they can
- 23:38have team order, you know what I'm saying?
- 23:40Because it's all Ducati. So they literally can just say,
- 23:43hey, we want Peco to win, period.
- 23:47I know one thing is when when when the race started and I saw
- 23:52that Ducati, that red Ducati out front, I thought it was PECO and
- 23:56it was in there. And I'm like what?
- 24:00I was surprised that that was because of PECO.
- 24:03I think because whatever media brought out there, that question
- 24:07that they brought saying if Martine joins, you know, the
- 24:11factory team and Peco was like, ah, no, that's not fair.
- 24:16I think he's scared to have Martine as a teammate.
- 24:18He's like, no, no, that's not fair.
- 24:19I don't. I don't think I mean.
- 24:21Think about it right. You know, no rider is scared of
- 24:24a teammate, right? Because if you're not going to
- 24:26be a Moto GP, World super Bike, you're not going to be anywhere
- 24:28if you're scared, right? So I don't, I don't think
- 24:31scared. I I I feel legally he's he's
- 24:36he's on the contract so they can't really get rid of them.
- 24:38And I know it's nice to talk about, but you can't really get
- 24:41rid of them. You know, it may be a situation
- 24:44like like pull Espogero where he's the backup, but it's still
- 24:48paying him his money because he's under contract.
- 24:50So I, you know, to switch back and forth, I think it's nice to
- 24:53talk about, but there's still contracts in place, so I don't
- 24:57know how much that's going to happen.
- 24:58I don't even think that's even fair for for Anaya.
- 25:01But Anaya could have passed Pekko on the Sprint, yeah?
- 25:05No, I don't think it was fair for Anaya.
- 25:06It was right for Pekko to say that.
- 25:08Yeah and and and and and he chose not to.
- 25:11He, he he, he he he chose not to because he understands like
- 25:15Ducati Factory wants to win. I mean they.
- 25:18They at this point they got Ducati is going to win
- 25:21regardless but they but but they want the factory to win right
- 25:25and and and and he chose to stay behind Petco for that and
- 25:29whatever they figured out whatever they figured out that
- 25:34the day that they had. They improved on it for Sunday
- 25:37and he was able to run away like he did.
- 25:40And which I'm happy to see because the dude was fast.
- 25:42The dude was fast like I was, you know, at at the beginning of
- 25:45the season. Like I thought it was going to
- 25:47be him and Pekko and then this is what we wanted to see.
- 25:50And then when Marini took him out, you know, you know,
- 25:54accident of course when he took him out that that was tough, you
- 25:59know what I'm saying? And then when he took himself
- 26:01out that was also tough and and you hear in his, in his, his
- 26:05speech. At the at the at the end of the
- 26:08race you know only his family his girlfriend his friends know
- 26:11what he had to go through and and it's like you know when you
- 26:15got when you have adversity like that and you and you have to get
- 26:18over stuff and then and there's people hunting for your job it's
- 26:21tough. And then and and to top all
- 26:23that, off with with, with with them saying what they're saying
- 26:26like, oh, the way he's riding, you know, he he should get a
- 26:29factory seat. And you know outside of Bazeki
- 26:32getting hurt Bazeki was riding just as good too right.
- 26:36You know what I'm saying And and and Bazeki was he's he still he
- 26:40stayed with with with with with with Valentino and he probably
- 26:45could have took Frankie's seat in in in Primack Zako's old seat
- 26:50right. Right.
- 26:50For he's not old because he's still riding it, but for 2024
- 26:54and and so you know, for them to say that, you know, I I guess
- 26:58it's the proper thing to say. And but and they won that seat
- 27:07and no fault of his own obviously the second crash was
- 27:10his fault but the first crash was not.
- 27:13And it's possible that the first crash probably LED up to the
- 27:15second crash because he's just trying to play catch up type of
- 27:19thing you know what I'm saying and and for them to say that was
- 27:22tough and then for him to come out and and and I you know we've
- 27:24all been watching seeing you know he's in a top 12 top ten
- 27:27top. It's like, oh man, oh man.
- 27:30And it from to do what he did. It's a it's, it was definitely a
- 27:33beautiful thing and I'm definitely happy for him, happy
- 27:36for him for the win and happy for him for, you know, you know,
- 27:40not overtaking his teammate, thinking about the the the the
- 27:43factory championship factory championship and not necessarily
- 27:46Ducati Championship. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:51Oh yeah. No he he rode great like I I he
- 27:55he was just on cruise control basically, you know, Right.
- 28:00I'm, I'm very happy for him. Like he said it was unfair for
- 28:05that that topic to come out to even put it Martin in in there
- 28:09in that situation to talk about it like that.
- 28:11You know especially like you said when someone goes down with
- 28:15an injury, you know the people are so unfair that they just
- 28:21like if if this Michael Jordan goes down with an injury or
- 28:23someone like that, like when he comes back, they expect them to
- 28:27be the exact same right away. And you know it's it's but they
- 28:32don't see that process that they have to build up on the on you
- 28:36know the outside or where you can't see them and expect them
- 28:41to come back to be the same. So I think when that topic came
- 28:45up whatever Pecko said just threw another fire under anaia
- 28:48he he just took off running. So I was happy to see that.
- 28:52And and he had to, he had to prove that he's still a good
- 28:55rider cause like couple rounds ago he was like in 20 seconds.
- 28:59Oh yeah, And you know, and you know, he's still dealing with
- 29:03his injuries. Yeah, definite, definitely.
- 29:06So I'm definitely happy for him. You know, I think Pekko's right
- 29:12in smart and but you know. The luck is on his side at the
- 29:24moment. You know what I'm saying?
- 29:26And you know there's only a couple more rounds for this
- 29:29year, so he just got to worry about this year.
- 29:31But next year, next year is is, is is anybody's game.
- 29:38Yeah, you got to come out right from the gate.
- 29:39I mean, that's what they all try to do.
- 29:41But you got to come out right from the gate.
- 29:44Gotcha. Gotcha.
- 29:46Yeah. Were there any any surprises
- 29:50over the over the weekend as far as Moto GP?
- 29:53You know, you know, Miller did fairly well.
- 29:58You know the the previous, the previous struggled.
- 30:02I think Fabio actually did really well.
- 30:05Like just to see the way he rode in practice and the times he was
- 30:09putting in and qualifying, he was actually on on pole for a
- 30:13little bit. But you know, that was going to
- 30:15go down after, you know, the price.
- 30:18But I think he rode really well for what he got because you
- 30:22haven't seen him up there fighting, you know, for, for a
- 30:28while. Yeah, Miller.
- 30:34I'm trying to figure out why he keeps drifting back.
- 30:36Like he drives really, really well.
- 30:39But, you know, like there's something that Brad Bender seems
- 30:45to be a little bit stronger. Yeah, a little more figured out.
- 30:49Obviously this is Jack Miller's first season, but you know, like
- 30:54when someone's super excited and when they start something, they
- 30:59give their most the best effort, right?
- 31:02So they might, they might get that little a jump on someone
- 31:04else. Yeah.
- 31:05And he seems to lose traction and fade back almost almost
- 31:09every race so. And and he had the same issue
- 31:11with Ducati. I don't know and you know this
- 31:14is a management of tire thing. I don't know if his tires alone,
- 31:17so I won't say that, but it it it it does.
- 31:22He's had this issue with Ducati as well and I you know and and
- 31:28it and. You know, at that level, you
- 31:30know it, it it, it is just, you know, just to hear of a
- 31:34difference, right? You know, just to hear of a
- 31:36difference on the trigger, to to to the, to to a different rider.
- 31:40So just just to save, just to save some life on a tire for two
- 31:45laps, you know? Exactly.
- 31:46So you know, there's definitely, you can see it in Moto 2 as
- 31:49well. There's definitely riders that
- 31:51you know at the end of the race chew the tire up way more than
- 31:54other riders, that type of thing.
- 31:57And he's. You know, I I I like, I'm a big
- 32:02fan of Jack Miller. I would love to see him win more
- 32:03races for sure but that is the one thing it it it is it's you
- 32:09know the end of the race is he he falls backwards instead of
- 32:13full. But granted there was a lot of
- 32:14other riders this past week and falling backwards too so he
- 32:17wasn't alone in that for sure. But you know, he he definitely
- 32:21helped KTM, you know, become a top five bike.
- 32:26But Oh yeah, he's he's somewhere you know, you know got shuffled
- 32:29back a little bit. Yeah, but overall I think they
- 32:34they he did well. We're looking forward to next
- 32:38round because you know it's one week away.
- 32:40They ride back on the bike. Oh yeah, I'm looking forward to
- 32:45it, you know, and go ahead, I got.
- 32:46I was going to switch the mode too, but we're the same.
- 32:48Same here. That's what I said.
- 32:49Go ahead. Yeah.
- 32:50So you know, I like, I root for Aaron Connette all the time, and
- 32:55he didn't have a good weekend. No, congratulate Pedro Acosta
- 32:59for finally pulling out the championship.
- 33:02Woo Hoo. You know he is the 4th rider to
- 33:11Intermodal GP, winning the first two premier classes.
- 33:17Congratulations, Pedro Acosta. Right, he's a fourth rider.
- 33:20Valentino Rossi, Danny Pedroza and Mark Marquez.
- 33:27All three. Very good, right?
- 33:30And he is one of the youngest writers to do it as well.
- 33:34And, you know, pretty impressive.
- 33:38But also shout out to her, Mayor Aldogir, right?
- 33:42Oh yeah, you know, he's going to get that seat.
- 33:47Which seat are we talking about? Oh wait, my favorite Did they
- 33:53get offered a a seat for GP? Well, you know, the rumor mill
- 33:57has it that Luka Marini is being quoted for Mark Mark has his old
- 34:06seat. And if that does happen, if if
- 34:09Luka Marini goes to Repsol Honda, which has got to be some
- 34:13kind of vindication for Rossi somehow pay me the money
- 34:17somehow. It sounds like Fermi might move
- 34:21up to Luka Marini's old seat again.
- 34:24It's still 2023, so you know he's still riding the bike, but
- 34:29you know what I'm saying. So what do you think about it?
- 34:34Well, it sounds like he was also offered the the, the Repsol
- 34:39seat, so the fact that I think he turned that down.
- 34:42Or it was rumored. Same with Polis.
- 34:43Progro also was, you know, they were trying to bring him back to
- 34:48Honda and those guys didn't want it.
- 34:50So it'd be weird that a lot of riders don't want that seat.
- 34:54But Luca Marini, you know, is considering it and and it's also
- 34:59a way that they didn't offer it to Digin.
- 35:01Antonio. As well.
- 35:02So they must know something there that they're saying, hey,
- 35:06you know, we don't want Digen Antonio, we'd rather deal with
- 35:09Rossi even, you know, then deal with Digen Antonio, which is
- 35:13kind of also odd, you know, for if I was Luca Marini, they would
- 35:20have to offer me a four year deal with with a two year option
- 35:24after that. If, if, if you're going to, if
- 35:27you, if you want me to, how many crashes between Mir and and
- 35:32Marquez this year? Well over 50, yeah.
- 35:37Marquez is at 2728. Yeah, almost 50, yeah.
- 35:42If if you want me to do that, give me a four year deal, pay me
- 35:46a lot of money and give me a two year option at that because at
- 35:49least I know I can be a Moto GP for six years.
- 35:52You know what I'm saying? Because the one thing as you
- 35:55know, I feel bad. I mean even eco, even though Eco
- 35:57Luca One O is still on a Honda factory team in World Super
- 36:01Bike, Remy Gardner's in World Super Bike.
- 36:04You know what I'm saying? Like the owners, I mean, maybe
- 36:10always, but you know, there's some riders that I felt like
- 36:14just got treated pretty bad. Oh no, I shouldn't say pretty
- 36:17bad, but bad. And and and and it's one of
- 36:19those things like you don't want to go you don't want to give up
- 36:21a good seat that you have you know you're not the you're not
- 36:25pram Max so you know and you you you know like he's he's gotten
- 36:29poll he I don't think he's won a race yet but he's been on the
- 36:32podium Luca Marini and and it's a very good bike so outside of
- 36:37money like that mean I mean if Mark Marquez is willing to give
- 36:43up his factory seat to go to Grassini.
- 36:47Like you you know money is not it.
- 36:49Like money is not the end, all right.
- 36:51Because Marquez could have just stayed and got the money so I
- 36:55can't and and and his brother's is is Valentina Rossi.
- 36:58So I can't believe he's sitting here saying, well I'm going to
- 37:02go take the money so it it it has to be something more and
- 37:06sure when they turn that bike around again when they turn the
- 37:09bike around, because they will. I mean they got enough money
- 37:11that they will turn the bike around.
- 37:13There's, there's, there's, there's there's no question that
- 37:15Honda doesn't have the money. I I can't speak for Yamaha, but
- 37:17Honda definitely got the money. But you know, as a rider, you
- 37:23know you could stay with your brother.
- 37:24I don't know how long he could stay with his brother either
- 37:26because you know, there's young riders coming up.
- 37:28So obviously, you know, if if they're talking about it, having
- 37:32that conversation, it it has to be something greater.
- 37:35And I got to assume this guy's going to stay in Moto GP for a
- 37:37while because I don't think Rossi's going to have his
- 37:40brother get bounced out of Moto GP quick, you know what I'm
- 37:43saying? He's going to put up some
- 37:46dollars, make sure that don't happen.
- 37:48I can't see Luka Marini going worse.
- 37:52Yeah no, I don't think he will go to World Super Bike.
- 37:55But if he leaves you know VR46 Mooney and goes to Honda and
- 38:00Honda gets rid of him in a year and a half, two years or
- 38:02whatever the case may be And you got firm air on the on Mooney
- 38:08next year and then you got Bezeki on and if these guys do
- 38:11really well they might move up the class right and and and so
- 38:15forth and he still got young riders coming in.
- 38:19You know what I'm saying? There's still a lot of young
- 38:20riders out there and and and that that are really good.
- 38:23So you know it. It's very tricky.
- 38:26So I I don't know what's going to happen again.
- 38:30If he was to go, he knows he's might not be on the podium again
- 38:35and if he stays with VR46 there's a good chance he's going
- 38:37to be on the podium. But if he stays with, if he goes
- 38:39to Repsol, he may or may not be on the podium again.
- 38:43He may or may not have a pole position again.
- 38:45Yeah, I mean, they got to have to until they fix their fight.
- 38:50Honda will, but whether he's riding it is a different story.
- 38:56You know what I'm saying? So, so, yeah, so we'll see what
- 38:59happened. It was nice to see you from here
- 39:01when, like I said before, that's back-to-back, right?
- 39:05Yes, back-to-back. And you know, like I said
- 39:08before, I to me, on paper, to me, to me, he was a he was a
- 39:13better rider than than than Acosta.
- 39:16To me like and and coming out the Argentina before Silas Tina
- 39:20took him out last year and stuff like that like he he he he was
- 39:24up there and then you know I think he he had a bunch of bad
- 39:27luck last year. Not to say that Acosta didn't
- 39:30either. But he had more bad luck and he
- 39:33and he and and it took him a while to get his seat back, his
- 39:35feet back underneath him and he's there.
- 39:38And honestly if he's riding away, he's riding.
- 39:41Now who's going to catch him next year?
- 39:45Yeah, I mean yeah, now Acosta is leaving.
- 39:48I mean I know Pedro was trying to be safe.
- 39:51He. Beat the Costa by three, 4
- 39:55seconds. No, it says he he beat him by 7,
- 39:57seven. There you.
- 39:58Go. I'm.
- 39:59I'm, I'm, I'm making. I don't know what it is.
- 40:02I was going to say Pedro obviously knew he was going to
- 40:05win the championship so you don't want to make any type of
- 40:07mistake. So he knew he had it.
- 40:09One with, what's his name, Tony Arbolino.
- 40:13He had a crazy incident. Motorcycle racing.
- 40:17You gotta love it. That that, that turn 9, like
- 40:21there was what, 6 riders that didn't finish?
- 40:24Yeah, yeah. And and in one corner 2 riders
- 40:27crash at the same time. Yeah, oh.
- 40:30Yeah, and A and a Yeah. Yeah, that was crazy.
- 40:32Which was, Which was kind of spooky.
- 40:34It's like do you get?
