- 0:02Welcome to Impact Ready, a show dedicated to helping you elevate
- 0:06your impact in the world. I'm Steph Safra, your host.
- 0:09Let's explore the power of showing up with intention and
- 0:12energy each day. This is for those who seek to
- 0:15make life truly meaningful. Get ready for impact.
- 0:22Hi loves, thanks for being here. I hope you are having a great
- 0:25start to your Monday and I hope this is going to be a great week
- 0:28for you. I think my millennials who
- 0:32listen to the show will remember that TV drama called Friday
- 0:36Night Lights. It was about a high school
- 0:39football team in a small town. And I love that show.
- 0:42I love sports shows. And one of the things that the
- 0:47coach said to his players all the time was clear eyes full.
- 0:51Hearts can't lose. I'm sure you've heard that
- 0:54phrase before. It's become a really popular,
- 0:57trendy phrase over the years. It still stands the test of
- 1:01time. You're still hearing it sitting
- 1:02around. And this show came out, I don't
- 1:04know, in the earlier 2000s, but the coach always said that to
- 1:09his players to try to interrupt whatever pattern of thinking
- 1:14they were in before the game or during a practice.
- 1:17And the intent was to get them focused on what they were doing,
- 1:20get them focused on the game, playing with a certain attitude.
- 1:24It was all about having focus, playing with integrity, having
- 1:28character on the field. He wanted his players to be good
- 1:32players, but he also wanted them to be good people.
- 1:35And that phrase, clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
- 1:39This is similar to what we call a trigger phrase.
- 1:42A trigger phrase is a specific word or combination of word
- 1:46sentence that can activate a response or an action.
- 1:49It's often used in marketing, it's very often used in
- 1:53storytelling, but it's meant to provoke specific reaction.
- 1:57I used to say to my spin class, anything can happen on Tuesday
- 2:02because I taught on Tuesdays and Fridays, and every Tuesday I
- 2:06would say to my class, to my team on those bikes, Anything
- 2:10can happen on Tuesday team. And it was the same idea to say
- 2:15a trigger phrase to help people get into a specific mindset.
- 2:20And people started to know it. They started to know me for
- 2:24saying that they would expect that they would hear it in the
- 2:27class. That phrase was something that
- 2:31my wife and I used to say to each other early in our
- 2:34relationship. And it started as kind of a
- 2:37joke, and it was meant to kind of give us hope during stressful
- 2:41times so that in the midst of stress we would recognize that
- 2:45anything was possible. But I just took it and ran with
- 2:48it and I carried it on for the next 8 years when I was teaching
- 2:51classes. And I always taught early
- 2:54morning classes. And because that was how people
- 2:58were starting their day, I wanted to use that phrase to
- 3:02help people remember to stay out of their own way.
- 3:05It was really about trying to be open to the good stuff that
- 3:09might be trying to come in. And in this episode, I just
- 3:15really want to give you a little bit of encouragement for the
- 3:18week. We're entering a very busy
- 3:20season for people. I don't know, there's a lot of
- 3:24people who are feeling heavy and that like things are a lot to
- 3:28carry. There's a lot of emotional load
- 3:30on people right now. So I want to give you a little
- 3:32bit of encouragement for the week.
- 3:35And so let's go back to clear eyes.
- 3:37Full hearts can't lose. I'd love for you to think about
- 3:42approaching this week with clear eyes.
- 3:45Meaning know who you are, know who you are this week and have a
- 3:51clear vision in regards to what you want to achieve, what you're
- 3:55focusing on. See things with clarity, see
- 4:01things with openness. So often we lose sight of the
- 4:05important things because we're so focused on the the
- 4:08peripheral, the distractions we choose to fixate on the small
- 4:12stuff. I do it too.
- 4:14I get lost in the nuance of the problems.
- 4:16And every once in a while I catch myself and I'm like,
- 4:18Steph, you have to zoom out here.
- 4:20You're making quite a bit of progress.
- 4:22And that is probably something that you've experienced in your
- 4:26life. I mean, have you ever gotten
- 4:28lost in the details of a problem so much so that you miss the big
- 4:33vision that you have? It happens all the time.
- 4:37So can we choose to zoom out every once in a while and have
- 4:41clarity, just have really clear eyes on the big vision?
- 4:46Can we see that one hard day doesn't equal a loss in the
- 4:50grand scheme of things? Could we try not to have
- 4:53judgement clouding our eyes or things blocking us from seeing
- 4:57what really is? Because you never know what's
- 5:00going on for people in their life.
- 5:02You never know their stories, the people you're interacting
- 5:06with, that might be who you see, but it's not who you're talking
- 5:09to. As Jefferson Fisher always says,
- 5:12there's always something going on deeper.
- 5:16And so approaching it with clear eyes, not having to know
- 5:20everything, but looking and paying attention, listening to
- 5:24the people in front of you, looking at things with clear
- 5:27vision so that you can be powerful and take in the full
- 5:31context of information. And then full hearts.
- 5:35This can mean a lot of things, honestly.
- 5:38Let's think about having hearts full of conviction and
- 5:41gratitude. Conviction is such a big thing,
- 5:45like really standing for what you want, taking action on the
- 5:51things that are important to you.
- 5:52Be in conviction. Don't be free to be excited
- 5:55about your life, because if you're not excited, then what
- 6:00are you doing this for? Isn't it all for the excitement
- 6:04and the enjoyment and the fulfillment of life?
- 6:06Shouldn't we be experiencing that now instead of waiting
- 6:10until we achieve X or Y or Z or we hit some certain milestone?
- 6:16Why are we withholding the joy? Can we be in conviction that
- 6:22whatever we're doing right now is serving the grander plan?
- 6:26Have conviction for what you're doing for your family.
- 6:29Be in conviction for showing up in your relationships with your
- 6:33friends and showing up well for work and being in integrity and
- 6:37doing what you say you're going to do.
- 6:40You can make it about being in appreciation for what's
- 6:44happening in this moment in your life, in this week.
- 6:48Yes, there's going to be challenge.
- 6:49Yes, I'm sure you're experiencing some level of
- 6:53stress, but you can also have appreciation for what's
- 6:56happening and what you already have.
- 6:58I guarantee you have a tremendous amount of wealth in
- 7:02your life, not just financial wealth, but wealth in your
- 7:06relationships, in your marriage and your friendships with your
- 7:10colleagues, with your health. I mean, if you just start to
- 7:14think about what kind of wealth do I have in all of these
- 7:18different buckets in my life, I, your mind is going to be blown.
- 7:22I bet you will be absolutely astounded at how wealthy you
- 7:27actually are because we often think about wealth only as
- 7:31financial wealth. But I'm not talking about how
- 7:34rich you are. I'm talking about your wealth in
- 7:39all of the different buckets. Do a little out of that.
- 7:42I know that in this season of my life, I can recognize that I
- 7:47have a lot of wealth to be appreciative of, to be in
- 7:51gratitude for. I'm, I'm just very, very
- 7:54thankful, especially as I exit a season that was really
- 7:58tumultuous for my family. And I, along with full hearts,
- 8:03have an open heart this week. It's really easy for our hearts
- 8:07to close off. It happens in an instant
- 8:11whenever negative emotions come up for us in a day, which is, I
- 8:15don't know, 250 times a day I'm sure.
- 8:19But focus on trying to keep the heart open.
- 8:23Meaning be curious and be open to whatever experience is in
- 8:29front of you. Try not to shut down, try not to
- 8:31get defensive, try not to put the walls up, but instead be
- 8:35commutative. Ask questions, be curious, be
- 8:40open to feedback, be open to listening, be open to problem
- 8:44solving. Clear eyes, full hearts, can't
- 8:48lose. I mean, he says it all the time,
- 8:50that coach and Friday Night Lights.
- 8:52But every time I hear it, I'm like, hell yeah, let's go.
- 8:55And so I hope that you can take a little bit of encouragement
- 8:59for you this week. This is meant to be a short
- 9:02episode, so you can take it and run with it on a Monday.
- 9:05And you can also create your own trigger phrase, something that
- 9:08resonates with you. Some of my clients have their
- 9:11own mantras or trigger phrases that help them shake themselves
- 9:16awake and get into a specific mindset.
- 9:19Sometimes I'll say to myself, everything's working out for me.
- 9:23Sometimes I'll say to myself, this is easy.
- 9:27Those types of phrases shake me out of whatever I'm stuck in and
- 9:32get me thinking about things in a different way.
- 9:34So don't be afraid to create your own.
- 9:36It absolutely works. It's a really powerful
- 9:39psychological tool and it doesn't have to be complicated.
- 9:43So I hope you can take this this week and do something powerful
- 9:47with it. Clear eyes, full hearts.
- 9:49Can't lose baby. Have a great Monday.
- 9:52Have a great rest of your week. More impact ready coming to you
- 9:55on Thursday. Thank you for being here, team.
