- 0:02Hey, welcome to the City Point Church podcast.
- 0:04Thanks for joining us. Every day is an opportunity to
- 0:07take hold of. So we hope this message inspires
- 0:10you and build your faith that it helps you have more of a God
- 0:13perspective for your day. Enjoy.
- 0:15Share. This amazing testimony from a
- 0:19young lady, There are so many significant ones, it's hard to
- 0:22pick one. But I want to share this
- 0:23testimony because do you know that the mantle, the Joshua
- 0:28generation mantle, is like Pastor Nicole said, it is not
- 0:31limited for the young people, but the young people are going
- 0:34to do something with it. And they're going to lead the
- 0:36nations of this world to an acknowledgement of Jesus Christ
- 0:41again. And we are going to walk into a
- 0:44time in history in this next season where it's going to be
- 0:47undeniable that Jesus Christ is Lord all over the world.
- 0:51Did you know right now in the UK, one in eight Gen.
- 0:55Zetas are heading to church? One in eight.
- 1:00Did you know in the US, one in six are streaming Christian
- 1:05content to learn about who Jesus is and to gain insight into a
- 1:11spiritual transformation and reformation through platforms
- 1:16because they have had an absence of it in their homes.
- 1:21Because of this, there has been a response by a number of the
- 1:24streaming platforms in particularly Prime, who has
- 1:28gone. If our business is going to
- 1:30succeed, we actually need to keep up with the content that
- 1:34this next generation is craving, and that is about Jesus Christ.
- 1:41And so because of it, a number of the streaming platforms have
- 1:46decided to remove content that carries witchcraft and cult and
- 1:52things that worship idols and begin to flood their content
- 1:56with things that are actually building young people's faith in
- 2:00Jesus Christ. That is why a line in your prime
- 2:05account now, if you have Prime now says religious, religious
- 2:11documentaries. And it's got an amazing what
- 2:14it's like content for you to grow in your faith.
- 2:17I think it's like faith growing religious content or something
- 2:21like that right beside which is so bizarre in other platforms
- 2:26that is like Halloween things. Has anybody noticed that their
- 2:30streaming platforms are full of a line right at the time
- 2:32Halloween go into prime, see something different, see
- 2:36something different because of it, which of course I am not
- 2:40surprised about at all. Tim was talking about this
- 2:43before because of this shift in this particular streaming
- 2:48platform I've been tracking, they are right now in the world
- 2:52the number one, they were like right down the bottom in how
- 2:57successful their business was. In actual fact, the shift came
- 3:02when they put something up that was carried a whole lot of
- 3:06witchcraft. They put it on their platform
- 3:09and and within 24 hours they had reduced the amount of
- 3:14subscribers so significantly, the company went into OverDrive
- 3:19wondering if they would still be around within a month.
- 3:24And then somebody said, I've actually heard about this
- 3:28producer or director who's building a series about David in
- 3:33the Bible. And I think that as a streaming
- 3:38platform, we should get behind it, fund it and air it.
- 3:44Do you know that the House of David shifted Prime?
- 3:48And then they began to get other content, including the chosen
- 3:53and put it on this platform. And that content is the most
- 3:58streamed content on their platform, and it has turned
- 4:01their business around. So if you really want an amazing
- 4:06afternoon of encouragement, go and see what the director of
- 4:08Prime is now saying about this kind of content.
- 4:11He's awesome, so cool. Why?
- 4:18Because the Joshua generation is going to lead us not just to a
- 4:22move of the Holy Spirit, but they're going to see the nations
- 4:26of the world come and God get on their knees and say Jesus is
- 4:30Lord again. Now that really did not warrant
- 4:35that kind of level. Thank you, Mary, for agreeing
- 4:38with me on that. Maybe you didn't hear that this
- 4:43morning. Do you know why we don't often
- 4:47get excited about this? There are very few of us sitting
- 4:52in this auditorium today who have lived in a time where our
- 4:57nations were God fearing. So we don't believe it, but do
- 5:04you know that there have been generations that the nations of
- 5:08the world have feared? Lord, when the dark gets dark,
- 5:19really dark, the light gets brighter.
- 5:26And right now this next generation are running into the
- 5:30arms of Jesus. And I'm not talking limited to
- 5:33City point church all around the planet as we proclaim these
- 5:39amazing testimonies of beaches all over the world full of
- 5:43people being baptized. Did you know it's this
- 5:45generation and you know it's come from this cry in their
- 5:49heart, a Joshua cry that says a declaration that says As for me
- 5:55in my house, we will serve the Lord.
- 6:01I want to unpack this to us as a church this morning.
- 6:04About maybe six weeks ago or so, Pastor Ryan and Nicole gave me
- 6:09the incredible honor of coming into our youth ministry as a
- 6:12part of the lead up to camp and bringing a word around this
- 6:16particular theme. Now, because of this, I had to
- 6:19go and study it. Now, Joshua is one of my
- 6:21favorite people in the Bible. This is a personal thing for me.
- 6:26When I was a child, my parents gave each of us children a
- 6:30prophetic word and a scripture that has been our scripture for
- 6:34our whole life. Mine comes from Joshua 18, And
- 6:37so I love Joshua. I had studied Joshua, but I'd
- 6:43studied Joshua as a young person.
- 6:46And so as I began to prepare this message for youth a couple
- 6:49of weeks ago that I'm going to bring to you again today, for
- 6:52those of you who have heard it from our youth program, you can
- 6:55get behind it and you can go. Amen.
- 6:57And at the end of this, I'm actually going to Commission you
- 7:00to pass something on. Is that OK, Young people?
- 7:05As I began to study it out as a 44 year old, there is revelation
- 7:11in it I'd never understood before.
- 7:14That has marked me because this statement that Joshua says, As
- 7:19for me and my house, we will serve the Lord is not made as a
- 7:25young person. In actual fact, it's made as an
- 7:30old person. If you are over 70 in this
- 7:34place, give me a wave. It was made by somebody over
- 7:38that age. It was made by somebody who had
- 7:43fought many battles, who had wandered.
- 7:47He'd actually been born in a desert, wandered a desert and
- 7:51gone through significant things. And he makes a declaration and
- 7:56says, As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
- 8:02Before I jump into this message, I want to quickly share this
- 8:05testimony because this testimony carries a generational blessing
- 8:10that I think you and I need to catch.
- 8:12Because God is moving not for the sake of the next generation,
- 8:16but for all generations. God is moving so that the next
- 8:21generation helps lead us up out of our chairs, up out of
- 8:25comfortable spaces, and gets us on the move again, doing what
- 8:30God has called us to do in the Western world.
- 8:38We have chased for nearly 20 years, comfort booking our
- 8:44holidays on our our next holidays, on our current
- 8:48holidays. We're looking at our next rest
- 8:51as as opposed to looking at our next purpose.
- 8:57But God is calling us in this generation in the last days of
- 9:02this earth to bear witness for him to be about his work, to be
- 9:09about seeing this community come to Jesus.
- 9:14And this will not happen if this generation alone are doing that.
- 9:21It will happen if we all stand up and declare and decide that
- 9:28As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
- 9:31Listen to this testimony so good.
- 9:33It's from a beautiful young lady in our youth ministry.
- 9:35And I cannot see that font. Not at all, all Right, says
- 9:42walking into youth camp. I was expecting God to move in
- 9:45wondrous ways, just as he'd done before.
- 9:48And he did. He moved in me and my sister and
- 9:52in hundreds of other youth from all around Australia, and I
- 9:56didn't know it, but he also moved in my dad while he was at
- 10:00home and we were at camp. My testimony started at the
- 10:04Miracle Service this year when I was set free from a spirit of
- 10:08rejection from unforgiveness and anxiety and had a ton of pain
- 10:12taken off my off my life. I felt the peace of the Lord and
- 10:17I felt the peace of the Lord and experienced God's love and peace
- 10:21created in. This created an expectation for
- 10:24me for youth camp this year. I can profoundly say that youth
- 10:29camp was so powerful. Walking into youth camp, a main
- 10:34prayer of mine was for my sister to receive salvation and to
- 10:39experience God. She didn't even want to go to
- 10:43camp at one point, but something changed.
- 10:47The night before camp night 2, she experienced God.
- 10:54This is what I love after this. But that's her testimony to
- 10:58tell. All I can say is that my prayer
- 11:03was answered. Walking into camp.
- 11:10I wasn't planning on being baptized but the day the
- 11:14baptisms were happening I was told about it and it definitely
- 11:18had me thinking, is this my next step?
- 11:21I had a feeling like I should do it and ended up saying yes.
- 11:32I like this young lady a lot. She's she's born to preach.
- 11:34Listen to some of these words. Ready.
- 11:36I realized that sometimes all it takes is a yes to God and things
- 11:43happen before my baptism. This is powerful.
- 11:48Before my baptism, I felt nervous and excited until I was
- 11:53talking with Pastor Nicole and she told me somebody needs to
- 11:57receive this. This morning she told me that
- 12:01nerves and excitement are exactly the same thing, except
- 12:09you only feel what you say it is.
- 12:13Somebody needs to receive that. This morning you only feel and
- 12:18receive what you claim it is. I was so emotional the whole
- 12:23time before it all happened, all the way until I got in the
- 12:26water. Being baptized made me feel so
- 12:30renewed and refreshed. Once I was baptized and I got
- 12:35out, I walked over to the tent but I was still crying, but I
- 12:40found I was laughing as well. Some girls came to congratulate
- 12:47me, but all I could do was cry and laugh at the same time.
- 12:51I was just so overwhelmed by joy and a feeling of God working in
- 12:56me. I felt loved, I felt happy, and
- 13:00I'm so grateful for the rest of the day.
- 13:03I just could not stop laughing and smiling and I realized that
- 13:08I felt the joy of the Lord for the first time.
- 13:17Ever since then, I've realized that the joy of the Lord is
- 13:20everywhere. I feel like I am seeing things
- 13:24in a different and a new perspective.
- 13:26I am I am so incredibly grateful for youth camp because many
- 13:29prayers were answered and encountering God.
- 13:32I was encountering God constantly at services that were
- 13:35so powerful. When I got back from youth camp,
- 13:38my sister and I were sharing our testimony with our parents and I
- 13:42found out that my dad, when my dad got the messages from me
- 13:46asking for permission to be baptized, he actually prayed in
- 13:51our living room by himself asking God to give him a sign.
- 13:57Whether this camp was the right decision for me and my sister
- 14:03because this is all new for our family and hearing our
- 14:09testimonies, he claimed this was the sign.
- 14:14I can say that my prayers are being answered and God is
- 14:18definitely working in my family. I pray that the rest of my
- 14:23family, here she goes straight into a prayer.
- 14:25I pray that the rest of my family are able to turn to the
- 14:28Lord and be able to experience the love and the peace and the
- 14:32joy of the Lord that I have experienced.
- 14:35Youth camp and the miracle services.
- 14:37The best thing that's ever happened to me and getting
- 14:40baptized was the best decision I've made in my life.
- 14:48Final statement is her As for me statement, it says I cannot wait
- 14:55to share this joy and light that is inside me to my friends, to
- 15:00my family and to anyone I have come into contact with.
- 15:06What a testimony of what God does if we carry an expectation
- 15:13that He wants to move in us. Do you have that expectation
- 15:18this morning that God wants to move in you like that?
- 15:21Right at the beginning of Joshua, Joshua 18 and 9, Joshua
- 15:26himself receives A prophetic word, and it says this Joshua
- 15:31one verse 8. This book of the law shall not
- 15:35depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and
- 15:39night, so that you may be careful to do all that is
- 15:44written in it, for then you will make your way, your life
- 15:51prosperous, and then you will have good success.
- 15:58Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous?
- 16:05Do not be afraid, for the Lord your God is with you wherever
- 16:10you go. This is a word spoken over
- 16:14Joshua as a younger person, to hold him instead for a life that
- 16:22ends with the result that it says, As for me and my house.
- 16:27But this prophetic word, like we say often in the life of this
- 16:29church, a prophetic word is an invitation by God.
- 16:35An invitation to come, come, be equipped, come, be formed in
- 16:41hidden places, come and allow the Spirit of the Lord to
- 16:45transform you because it's in of those places.
- 16:52But God is able to outwork significant things in our lives
- 16:56for the sake of our land, for the sake of this nation.
- 17:01This is where it began for Joshua.
- 17:03And so we want to unpack this morning in just a little bit of
- 17:06time that we've got today. As for me and my house, we will
- 17:12serve the Lord and what it means for you and I today for it's
- 17:15significant. So today our passage that I'm
- 17:19going to share from is from Joshua 24 verse 14 and 15
- 17:25because every generation must decide whom they will serve.
- 17:32Every single generation has to have a time that they draw a
- 17:37line in the sand and they say this is whom I will serve.
- 17:43Joshua 2414 and 15 says so. Fear the Lord and serve Him
- 17:49wholeheartedly. Say wholeheartedly.
- 17:53That is not lukewarm, that is not comfortable, that is
- 17:59sacrificial. Fear the Lord and serve Him
- 18:03wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols of
- 18:08your ancestors and whom they worshipped.
- 18:13Serve the Lord alone, and whose today whom you will serve.
- 18:21And then it finishes with this statement.
- 18:24But As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
- 18:33Do you know? In this passage, Joshua unpacks
- 18:36a couple of things that he is saying to the nation of Israel
- 18:40who are about to crossover into the Promised Land.
- 18:44He's saying something significant because he's saying
- 18:46to each and everyone of them, you must fear the Lord that came
- 18:51out this morning. Pastor Rach in our worship LED
- 18:55us in a beautiful, sacred moment in worship to come with humility
- 19:01and to fear the Lord as we brought an offering of worship
- 19:06this morning. We must fear the Lord, serve Him
- 19:11wholeheartedly, and put away the idols our ancestors worship.
- 19:21Joshua chose to make a statement that As for me and my house will
- 19:25serve the Lord, but it's paired with.
- 19:29So I'll have to choose not to have God under idols.
- 19:36Let me unpack what he's saying here for a second.
- 19:39Joshua drew a line in the sand. No matter what others choose his
- 19:42life and those who had who he had influence over would serve
- 19:47the Lord. Can I unpack why it's those who
- 19:51he had influence over in this passage he says, As for me in my
- 19:56house, who's heard the scripture before most of us right.
- 20:01As for me in my house, Did you know that Joshua at this stage
- 20:07of his life, I'm sure he would have had a family, but unlike
- 20:11the. Practices of the writings of the
- 20:14Bible up to this point that actually have very accurate
- 20:19accounts of this person belongs to this person.
- 20:22This is the Father, this is the Son, this is the grandson, this
- 20:26is the great grandson. I don't know if you've ever read
- 20:29this. It's some of the hard part of
- 20:31the Bible to read when it goes through the genealogies.
- 20:34Joshua's isn't there. We know he's the son of Nun,
- 20:42which has lots of amazing Christian memes attached to it,
- 20:49but he has no family listed in genealogy in the word of God.
- 20:54And yet he's the one who makes the statement.
- 20:57As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
- 21:01Can I unpack this just for a second?
- 21:04This word house carries so much meaning because this man's
- 21:09lineage is not listed. You do not know the name of his
- 21:12sons so you do not know whether he's married or not.
- 21:17But when you go actually unpack the origins of this word house,
- 21:22it actually means 2 meanings at the same time.
- 21:26It is A2 pronged approach. This particular word.
- 21:29It means both family of origin and all those I am entrusted to
- 21:35influence at the same time with no divide.
- 21:43Do you know for some of us who who have said obediently, I'm
- 21:47going to follow and serve the Lord with my whole life.
- 21:50Often the wrestle is particularly in our comfortable
- 21:55era of the Western world, we like to try and find the divide.
- 22:01We call it balance, the balance between our family of origin
- 22:08serving this and ministry. And in this one little verse,
- 22:14Joshua says there's no divide. I am declaring As for me and all
- 22:22those that have been entrusted in my care, all those that God
- 22:27has brought to me to be able to influence and lead and disciple
- 22:33and guide all, all fall in one declaration.
- 22:39As for me in all with no divide, which means my life is to serve,
- 22:49yes, the Politensky home, but also all of you and this region
- 22:55with no divide. As for me in my house, you can
- 23:01say I'm part of Mel's house. Come on now.
- 23:04That should make you way happier than that should be.
- 23:06Like I'm on my house. No, nobody's feeling it.
- 23:10OK, All right. There's no divide.
- 23:17But his life and those he had influence over would serve the
- 23:19Lord. Joshua makes this declaration
- 23:22with this passage, and he says I will not stand with any idol.
- 23:26In actual fact, I'm. We must choose today whom we
- 23:30will serve. And so he stood against the
- 23:33idols of his day. Can I quickly unpack this?
- 23:35Very quickly. He stood against the gods of
- 23:38Egypt, which symbolizes slavery and your past life.
- 23:45The behaviors, the addictions, the toxic habits that once
- 23:51consumed and controlled your life before you knew Christ.
- 23:55He said I'm drawing a line in the sand.
- 23:59They are not going to enter this place with me.
- 24:03As for me and my house, they have to go.
- 24:07I'm going to serve the Lord. The God of their ancestors means
- 24:12tradition and religion without relationship with God.
- 24:19So these modern day idols come off as religious practices that
- 24:24become now gods. Come on, let's be frank.
- 24:33This is what we are often debating on social media with
- 24:37other believers about this doctrine or that doctrine.
- 24:41Black walls or white walls. Communion in every service or
- 24:45once a month. Crosses on buildings or not on
- 24:50buildings. This is what he's talking about.
- 24:53The God of ancestors was tradition and religion and not
- 24:58relationship focused. Other expressions of this is
- 25:03living off others faith, others experience parents faith and not
- 25:08having our own. And the God of the Amorites
- 25:12which was the other types of idols in this day.
- 25:15This is a big one. You ready was the cultural
- 25:19popular gods. These were the gods of
- 25:23popularity, money, me obsession, and sexual compromise.
- 25:32This is the gods that Joshua was talking about.
- 25:36All right, Joshua said. I don't care what culture does.
- 25:39I've made my choice. The idols we worship today,
- 25:43church are exactly the ones that the people in Joshua's time
- 25:48worshipped. Exactly the same popularity and
- 25:51social media validation, likes, follows subscribers.
- 25:55Online influence can become an idol.
- 25:58Many believers measure their worth by how many people react
- 26:03online instead of how God sees them.
- 26:06Galatians 110 says, Am I now trying to win the approval of
- 26:10human beings or of God? Another one Appearance and
- 26:16image. Obsession with how we look, body
- 26:19image, fashion trends, filters, the idol of perfectionism,
- 26:25believing if I look good enough, I'll be valuable.
- 26:30But one, Samuel, 16, seven says people look at the outward
- 26:33appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
- 26:38He cares far more about the state of your soul than it does
- 26:42about the size of your lips. He does.
- 26:55Some of us need to spend a whole lot more time reading God's love
- 27:01lavished upon us in His Word, then reading what the world is
- 27:04saying about us through images that are coming up, setting a
- 27:09bar or an expectation of what we should look like and what we
- 27:13should be #3 achievement and success.
- 27:18Grades, sports, career, dreams, talents, giftings.
- 27:22These are easy, idle traps when they define our identity.
- 27:28And you know what? Often we can speak to young
- 27:31people about this because they're often doing these
- 27:33things. But do you know parents in the
- 27:35room? And I know our parenting seminar
- 27:37is going to go here. Do you know often we are the
- 27:40cause because of a lack of identity in us?
- 27:43We're pushing our children to be successful, to build ourselves
- 27:46up. If they are the best at then we
- 27:50are good, then we are successful and it's putting value on us.
- 27:55The pursuit of success without God leads to burnout and
- 27:57emptiness. Matthew 1626 says what good
- 28:01would it be for someone to gain the whole world yet forfeit
- 28:04their soul? There are so many more
- 28:08relationships and romance, pleasure and entertainment,
- 28:11money and possessions. And then the God of this age,
- 28:14which has been the God of every age, self, the idol of me,
- 28:19independence, self-image, and the rise of my truth, my way, my
- 28:25life. The idol of self is pride,
- 28:28believing that I am enough without God.
- 28:33Proverbs 3 verse 5 to 6 encourages us to trust in the
- 28:36Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own
- 28:39understanding in all your ways. Acknowledge Him and He will make
- 28:44your path straight. Every single one of us has to
- 28:48make our own choice. Will I let culture?
- 28:53Will I let friends? Will I let precious?
- 28:56Will I let the modern day idols define who I am?
- 29:02Or will I declare this day As for me and my house, we will
- 29:08serve the Lord. Can I tell you each and every
- 29:10person here today, this is super important.
- 29:13Faith is personal. It is not congregation, it is
- 29:17personal. Say faith is personal.
- 29:20My faith is my own, but it carries generational impact.
- 29:29You can set the tone for your family by having an authentic
- 29:33faith. You can set the tone for your
- 29:36friendships by having an incredible faith and you can set
- 29:41an incredible future for those you've been given influence
- 29:44over. If you make a declaration that
- 29:47is for me in my house, we will serve the Lord.
- 29:49So I want to give you 2 things that we can take from Joshua's
- 29:53life very quickly this morning before we go that I would love
- 29:57to encourage each and every one of us to take from Joshua on how
- 30:03how to do this work in the secret place.
- 30:07How to do this work behind the scenes so that you can step away
- 30:11from the idols that want to take over and influence and dictate
- 30:18the future of your life. I want to give you these two
- 30:21very quickly this morning because they are things that we
- 30:24can take from Joshua's life that you and I need to know.
- 30:29Number one, don't leave the tent.
- 30:32Say don't leave the tent, you're going to go.
- 30:36What is this about? In Exodus 33, verses 7 to 11,
- 30:42there is a particular story about in the wilderness when
- 30:46Moses pitches the tent at the special tent that houses the
- 30:50presence of God, where his presence would come down like a
- 30:55cloud. All right, And in that tent God
- 30:59would speak directly with, as with Moses, the Bible says as a
- 31:04friend, say as a friend, that's how God wants to know you as a
- 31:09friend. But there's a detail we can't
- 31:13miss from Joshua's story that is so significant found in verse
- 31:1611, Exodus 3, verse 11. It says then Moses would return
- 31:21to the camp. Now let me give you context.
- 31:23The Presence of God tent was set up outside of the camp and when
- 31:30Moses would go to the tent, people would stand outside of
- 31:35their tents in the camp. Now in context that youth camp,
- 31:38the tents were a long way from the tent meeting where they
- 31:41actually came together to worship the Lord and hear the
- 31:44word of God. This was the same in that time,
- 31:47there was a distance, but when they would stand outside, Moses
- 31:54would go into the tent at the cloud.
- 31:56The presence of God would descend on this tent, and
- 32:00Joshua, who was not invited to go into the tent like Moses,
- 32:06would stand at the door. So everybody else stood at the
- 32:12tent doors of their tents, but Joshua stood at the tent door of
- 32:17the presence of God. Here's what's amazing.
- 32:21It says this, when Moses would finish being as a friend with
- 32:27God in the tent, he would return to the camp.
- 32:32But his young aide, Joshua did not leave the tent.
- 32:40Joshua was a warrior. He was a young man who was
- 32:43Moses's assistant. But most importantly, Joshua was
- 32:47a present seeker. He sought the presence of God.
- 32:51He learned the secret of leadership and strength was to
- 32:56not leave God's presence, but to linger.
- 33:02Say that word this morning. Linger.
- 33:05Why? Because the tent was a place of
- 33:08encounter with God. Joshua stayed when others left.
- 33:14Why? Because Joshua wasn't content
- 33:16with second hand faith. He wanted God for himself.
- 33:20Great men and women of God are formed in lingering moments to
- 33:25church. Don't leave the tent.
- 33:29Some of you every single month hear the call out to come and
- 33:33pray in the House of God on the first weekend of the month and
- 33:37you're like, it doesn't fit in the calendar.
- 33:43It's not comfortable. I don't even know if I could
- 33:45pray that long. Could I Commission you?
- 33:49Could I encourage you this morning?
- 33:52Come and be found. Don't leave the tent.
- 33:57Would you practice lingering in the presence of God?
- 34:02Because the presence prepares you for your purpose.
- 34:05Joshua didn't know it yet, but one day he would lead Israel
- 34:09into the Promised Land. What prepared him was his time
- 34:14lingering in the presence of God at the tent.
- 34:17Joshua 19, says God says to him, be strong and courageous for the
- 34:23Lord. Your God will be with you
- 34:24wherever your wherever you go. You know your courage for
- 34:29tomorrow is fueled by your presence with God today.
- 34:34Linger in the tent. The second thing that Joshua did
- 34:38that is marks me about this young man that prepares him to
- 34:43put aside the idols of the day, make a declaration, say As for
- 34:47me in my house we serve the Lord is that he was OK at being
- 34:52halfway up, say halfway up. What does this mean?
- 34:57In Exodus 2413 to 14, he says this So Joshua and his
- 35:03assistant, sorry, Moses and his assistant Joshua set out and
- 35:07Moses went up the mountain of God and he said to the elders
- 35:14means the church leadership wait here for us at the bottom of the
- 35:19mountain until we return for you.
- 35:24But Joshua was trusted to go halfway up part way up Mount
- 35:33Sinai with Moses. He couldn't enter the cloud like
- 35:38he couldn't enter the tent. There's something found here for
- 35:42us church. But he waited faithfully at his
- 35:46post until Moses returned. Now I don't know if you've read
- 35:50these accounts of Moses in the book of Exodus, but this happens
- 35:55often that Moses is called into the 10 or is called up the
- 35:59mountain and he stays for a long time.
- 36:02One of one of these times is so significantly long that the
- 36:06people believe Moses to be dead and not returning.
- 36:12It's a serious way. But Joshua is content at being
- 36:20halfway up. There's something significant
- 36:23found here for you and I because you know what?
- 36:26Many of us in our faith do not like the seasons where we're
- 36:29called to be alone and God's calling us halfway up.
- 36:35He's saying, I don't want you down there in the camp.
- 36:38They're doing things. They're building calves.
- 36:42They're getting unrest, you know, they're getting uneasy.
- 36:46They tout I don't want you there, but you're not yet
- 36:51allowed there. Are you OK at being halfway up?
- 36:58Do you know halfway up forms things in our lives that cannot
- 37:02be done in the crowd that we often expect must be done in the
- 37:08presence on the top of the mountain.
- 37:11And yet this young man who makes a declaration As for me and my
- 37:15house, we're going to step away from these idols.
- 37:18We are going to serve the Lord and leads the nation of Israel
- 37:23into the promise promise 40 years before is formed,
- 37:28lingering alone at the tent and halfway up church.
- 37:34I know, I know prophetically this morning that many of us are
- 37:40being called into this sacred season right now.
- 37:45We want to, we want to right now go marching into the promised
- 37:50land and take the giant town God saying right now I need you to
- 37:55obediently stay halfway up. I need you to linger at the
- 38:00tent, for I am forming something in you.
- 38:04Joshua did not complain about being not allowed to go into the
- 38:07glory cloud. He'll sit and rush back to camp.
- 38:10He simply waited. Sometimes our purpose is learned
- 38:16in waiting, not in the position and not in the activity, but
- 38:22alone, halfway up. God was training Joshua to be
- 38:27patient, to honor authority, and to value His presence even more
- 38:36than being in the thick of it right now.
- 38:42I wonder if you are sitting in this auditorium, if God is
- 38:45asking you to come into this season of lingering and halfway
- 38:50up, maybe it feels like others are experiencing more getting
- 38:55ahead or being noticed. But like Joshua, you're being
- 39:00called to be formed in waiting halfway up.
- 39:05Waiting is not wasted, it's preparation.
- 39:09So we have to pray in the season that God is inviting us into.
- 39:14God, help me to trust you in the waiting.
- 39:17Teach me to stay faithful even when I can't see everything
- 39:19you're doing, Joshua said. I, I can see Joshua and the way
- 39:27he processes this. It says halfway up, but all way,
- 39:32all the way faithful. This is why he's entrusted to go
- 39:35to the promised land. So this morning, I wonder if
- 39:39there are those in this auditorium who are not content
- 39:43for our next generation to be alone in this Joshua generation.
- 39:48I'm 44 and I will be counted in the Joshua generation.
- 39:54Are you here this morning and you're 44 and you want to be
- 39:57counted in the Joshua generation?
- 40:00That says I'm not going to be swayed by the idols of this day.
- 40:04In actual fact, I'm not just going to go, I'm I'm not going
- 40:07to do that quietly or I'm just going to debate about it on
- 40:10social media. No, I'm just going to draw a
- 40:12line in the sand and say, As for me and my house, we will serve
- 40:18the Lord and so obediently. We're going to be OK with
- 40:23lingering in the presence of God and being formed halfway up.
- 40:29There's anybody here this morning that says, I know, I
- 40:31know. I've been set apart to be a part
- 40:34of this next Joshua generation. Would you stand to your feet
- 40:37right now in obedience and in faith to that call, in faith to
- 40:42being marked by God to lead in this next generation, this next
- 40:49season, and say, I'm going to live out the purpose of God for
- 40:54my life. I'm not going to conform to the
- 40:57ways of the world. I'm going to follow his way.
- 41:02Father, right now you see the people standing.
- 41:06You see their faith and their expectation.
- 41:10God, I pray right now for a boldness and a tenacity and a
- 41:16strength and a courage like you bestowed to Joshua to come on
- 41:21each and every one of them. Encourage them that you are with
- 41:26them every step of the way. You are strong and you are
- 41:31courageous. God is with you wherever you go.
- 41:37But God, but I thank you for their faith in responding to
- 41:42being OK to linger in your presence, away from the crowd,
- 41:49away from the murmurings, away from the culture, but being
- 41:54formed halfway up. Because I know God, you're going
- 42:01to entrust this generation with something significant in our
- 42:06nation, a beautiful nation, a nation rich in multicultural
- 42:15history, a a nation rich in faith of people from all over
- 42:21the world, a nation rich in multi generations.
- 42:27Oh, we know your heart for our nation, God.
- 42:31And so we stand in faith, saying and declaring this morning, As
- 42:36for me and my house, would you say it with me this morning As
- 42:39for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
- 42:44As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
- 42:47Father, right now, for each person, I pray for the courage
- 42:52and the clarity in their calling this morning for all that you've
- 42:55called them. To God, we thank you that you
- 42:59are pouring your spirit out across the nations of this
- 43:02world. You're allowed to do what you
- 43:06want to do in us so that we are prepared to do incredible things
- 43:12like Joshua did. Go and face giants and not see
- 43:15them as that, but as territory for the Lords in Jesus mighty
- 43:21name and all those who believed it said Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen,
- 43:26Amen.
