- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's a Wednesday.
- 0:16It's the 4th of March. How good is it to have your
- 0:19company today? I can tell you it's very good.
- 0:22Thank you for tapping on play. Thanks for inviting me in so
- 0:25that you and I can continue beyond this terrible judgement
- 0:30that God has for his people that we know is going to be enacted
- 0:33through the nation of Assyria as they well decimate and drag away
- 0:40the population of Israel to be lost to history as they just
- 0:43spread them, scatter them throughout the Assyrian Empire
- 0:48and we lose them. Yeah, it's pretty, pretty awful
- 0:50and tragic stuff. And today and tomorrow we are
- 0:54going to be reading about not just God pronouncing judgement,
- 0:58but it's this beautiful insight that we get through Hosea of the
- 1:02wrestle that goes on inside God as he's torn between his deep
- 1:07love and, ah, the things that they've done, the, the promises
- 1:11they've broken. And how does he deal with that
- 1:14as a loving father? So oh, it's this beautiful,
- 1:16beautiful wrestle that we get to see through what Hosea shares.
- 1:21Ah, Lord, thank you for what you revealed.
- 1:23Tell us about your character. Help us know you more through
- 1:27this reading today. All right, friends, let us dive
- 1:31in and read together. Hosea Chapter 11.
- 1:44When Israel was a child, I loved him, and I called my son out of
- 1:50Egypt. But the more I called to him,
- 1:53the farther he moved from me, offering sacrifices to the
- 1:57images of Baal and burning incense to idols.
- 2:01I myself taught Israel how to walk, leading him along by the
- 2:06hand. But he doesn't know or even care
- 2:10that it was I who took care of him.
- 2:13I LED Israel along with my ropes of kindness and love.
- 2:18I lifted the yoke from his neck and I myself stooped to feed
- 2:22him. But since my people refused to
- 2:25return to me, that will return to Egypt and will be forced to
- 2:30serve Assyria. War will swirl through their
- 2:34cities. Their enemies will crash through
- 2:37their gates. They will destroy them, trapping
- 2:40them in their own evil plans. For my people are determined to
- 2:45desert me. They call me the Most High, but
- 2:49they don't truly honour me. Oh, how can I give you up,
- 2:54Israel? How can I let you go?
- 2:58How can I destroy you like Admira or demolish you like
- 3:02Zeboim? My heart is torn within me and
- 3:06my compassion overflows. No, I will not unleash my fierce
- 3:12anger. I will not completely destroy
- 3:14Israel, for I am God and not a mere mortal.
- 3:20I am the Holy One living among you, and I will not come to
- 3:25destroy, for someday the people will follow me.
- 3:30I, the Lord, will roar like a lion, and when I roar, my people
- 3:36will return, trembling from the West like a flock of birds that
- 3:41will come from Egypt, trembling like doves that will return from
- 3:47Assyria, and I will bring them home again, says the Lord.
- 3:54Israel surrounds me with lies and deceit, but Judah still
- 3:59obeys God and is faithful to the Holy One.
- 4:13Ah, Father, you are indeed slow to anger and swift to love, rich
- 4:20in mercy and compassion. Thank you for these writings of
- 4:29poetry that show us your heart, your heart of such love for us,
- 4:36your heart of love for your people and where your nature
- 4:39truly lies. Thank you for giving this
- 4:41insight behind these words of judgement to see what goes on
- 4:46inside of you. And we see this expressed
- 4:51through what you did for us in Jesus.
- 4:56And we see your mercy and your compassion every day as you love
- 5:01us and you walk with us. You restore us.
- 5:07And you are our God and we are indeed your people.
- 5:12Thank you for who you are, for your nature, your very essence,
- 5:17your being of love. And we just lean into your love
- 5:22today, loving, saving God all in the name of Jesus we pray.
- 5:29Amen.
