Transcript
- 0:08Hello and welcome back to Ambitious.
- 0:10So today we are doing something a little bit different with
- 0:12today's episode. I will tell you I am a podcast
- 0:15junkie, OK? Like I listen to a lot of
- 0:18podcasts and I, in listening to those podcasts, sometimes don't
- 0:22always go back to episode 1 and kind of start from beginning and
- 0:25go through it. I will find titles that resonate
- 0:28with me. I will find descriptions that
- 0:30resonate with me and I dive into those episodes first.
- 0:33But the thing that I often find that I actually enjoy the most
- 0:36when I find a new podcast is the highlight episodes.
- 0:39The episodes that really take you through the one O 1 of like
- 0:42the top segments that they've had, the top interviews that
- 0:46they've had, and really, frankly, the top pieces of
- 0:49content or context that that audience really resonated with.
- 0:52And so myself and our team have gone through the behind the
- 0:55scenes of the one O 1 of the podcast clips on TikTok, the
- 1:00clips on Instagram, on YouTube, the YouTube videos, the Spotify
- 1:04downloads. We have gone through all of the
- 1:06data of our last several episodes from day one since we
- 1:09started ambitious. And we have compiled all of
- 1:11those to really bring to you the top 10 segments that our
- 1:15audience really enjoyed and really loved.
- 1:16And so with that being said, in today's episode, we're going to
- 1:19break down the top ten pieces that you definitely will want to
- 1:22make sure that you tune into and that we're most loved by all of
- 1:25our fellow ambitious women. So without further ado, let's
- 1:28get into today's episode. Coming in at #10 We've got the
- 1:32secrets to building A7 figure business, the insights and
- 1:35advice for an ambitious entrepreneur.
- 1:37From episode number 2. I had to learn and go into seven
- 1:40figures myself, which was your company will only grow as much
- 1:43as you grow as the entrepreneur. And my, my mentor passed this
- 1:47along to me and he said, you know, the, the lid of a business
- 1:49is the lid of its leadership. And you know, literally you are
- 1:54capping your business. If you are at a certain level in
- 1:57your vision, that is the vision and where it stops your team.
- 2:00If you're at a certain level in your mindset, that is, that is
- 2:02the mindset level that everything will be capped at.
- 2:05If you are at a certain level in your belief of where the
- 2:08business can go, the business will never surpass that.
- 2:10You are the lid of your business.
- 2:14So if you want to increase to a new level, you as the
- 2:18entrepreneur, as the CEO, as the leader of this business, need to
- 2:22get to a new level, which is why I'm constantly looking to up
- 2:26level and up level and up level. Because one of the things that I
- 2:28had to learn and I remember at the time I was, I was a multiple
- 2:326 figure business. And I remember saying to my, my
- 2:35coach, I said, yeah, you know, I'm just, I'm really gunning for
- 2:37seven figures. Is it respectfully, you don't
- 2:39deserve it. There's no way that your
- 2:41business can get to 7 figures because you and your mind are
- 2:44not a 7 figure business owner like in you and your mind are
- 2:48not even aligning yourself to achieving that goal.
- 2:50So respectfully hitting that goal is going to be very
- 2:53difficult if you do not have the ability to hold space for that
- 2:59goal. So the thing that's important to
- 3:02recognize is that you are the lid of your business.
- 3:05So your business will never outgrow the level that you are
- 3:09currently at. So you have to ask yourself,
- 3:12what level are we currently at? What level is our current
- 3:14mindset? At what level is the current
- 3:16vision? At what level do I think this
- 3:17business can get to? Do I have clarity of all those
- 3:20things? What are the skills that I have
- 3:22that I need to get to the next level for if we want to go to
- 3:24the next level? So it's never done.
- 3:27If you want to exponentially grow, you're never done because
- 3:30as soon as you stop your development, your business
- 3:33development is going to stop. So you need to make sure that in
- 3:37understanding you're the lid of your business and the lid of the
- 3:39company is the lid of its leadership.
- 3:41How can you keep moving the needle forward?
- 3:42Where are the areas maybe that you haven't been as focused on
- 3:46and you're also seeing that translate into your business?
- 3:49And one of these big things for me and going to seven figures
- 3:51was leadership, understanding how to motivate people,
- 3:54understanding how to manage different personality types,
- 3:56understanding how to translate my vision to other people when
- 3:59it wasn't so emotional for them as it was for me.
- 4:02How do I translate that to make it make sense to them?
- 4:04Understanding how other people are triggered and, and how
- 4:07they're, you know, activated and understanding how other people
- 4:11are motivated, right? Like all of this was something I
- 4:13had to learn. So I was like, if I don't learn
- 4:15that, I am going to be having this one style of management.
- 4:18And it works for person A, but it doesn't work for person B or
- 4:21C or D, right? So the lid of the business is
- 4:24the lid of its leadership in the number 9 spot.
- 4:26We are talking all things insights from behind the scenes
- 4:29of intensive week of my own coaching happening in Montana.
- 4:32All of the things that I learned around leadership and new
- 4:34business strategies from episode 19.
- 4:37I heard in a podcast recently like No2 clients that are
- 4:41fitness clients have the exact same workout routine.
- 4:43No2 clients have the exact same plan.
- 4:47No2 businesses are completely identical.
- 4:51And so why are we forcing businesses to do that in the
- 4:53online world of, you know, this is my process, you become it.
- 4:57And also how is that actually hindering us in a really intense
- 5:01way? And when I start to unpack it
- 5:03with our conversations, we realized that, you know, the way
- 5:06that I kind of vocalized it was that having these blueprints
- 5:10while people think, oh, it helps me to give me confidence, you
- 5:12know, exactly what to do, follow my steps.
- 5:15The thing that you may not be considering is the fact that
- 5:18it's also causing you to not think, It's causing you to not
- 5:21develop. It's causing you to not have the
- 5:23critical thinking skills that you need as a business owner to
- 5:25make the decisions because they're basically being made for
- 5:28you. And so then we want to think
- 5:30down the line when you don't have that coach or the next part
- 5:33of the blueprint hasn't been developed yet or you actually
- 5:35have to, God forbid, think on your own 2 feet.
- 5:38I have seen this first hand in conversations with people who
- 5:41are like, I don't know what to do.
- 5:43I don't trust myself. Is it this or is it that?
- 5:45Is it this or and people become paralyzed, paralyzed with fear
- 5:49around making the right or wrong decision.
- 5:51And that ultimately is because they've never worked with
- 5:54someone who actually allowed them to trust themselves, who
- 5:58actually allowed them to say, Hey, let me teach you who to be.
- 6:02Let me teach you how to develop to become the person that you
- 6:06need to be to get the outcome you want, not teach you just
- 6:10hey, do this, do that. And that's going to get you
- 6:12where you want to go. And you know, the, the line that
- 6:14was shared during the week was the fact that like, you know,
- 6:16really unfortunately bad coaches give their clients fish, really
- 6:22good coaches teach them how to fish.
- 6:25And so that analogy for me was like, how are we actually
- 6:30creating codependency with our clients?
- 6:32How are we actually potentially hindering and literally, you
- 6:35know, tapping our clients success by putting them in this
- 6:39box? We're not empowering them.
- 6:41We're not trying to say, hey, here's how we're going to help
- 6:44you to choose. Here's how we're going to help
- 6:45you to know. Here's how we're going to help
- 6:47you to build confidence. We're just saying, hey, be me.
- 6:50And how is that really helping? It's really when we really get
- 6:53to the crux of it, only helping the mentor who's coaching.
- 6:57Why? Because you've now become part
- 6:59of this McDonald's production line of the same burger, same,
- 7:04you know, Starbucks latte. That's a recipe.
- 7:07There's no customization, there's no individualization to
- 7:09it. And so the question becomes is
- 7:11that really what we want to summarize business to be?
- 7:14And so for me, it really helps me to get the permission slip
- 7:18going through it this week and analyzing my own business to
- 7:21realize like I have done a lot of customization.
- 7:24There were still some places where I didn't feel that I was
- 7:26completely authentic to myself when we are changing those, but
- 7:29there were so many aspects where I knew what others did and I
- 7:32they went left and I was like, great, if that's left, I want to
- 7:34go right because I didn't want to do the same thing.
- 7:36I was not a blueprint or, you know, an outline that really
- 7:39resonated with me. And so when I started to unpack
- 7:43that this week, I just realized like, this is something that I
- 7:45want to talk more about because there's so many people who feel
- 7:48this way. There's so many people who show
- 7:49this belief. And I also think that you maybe
- 7:51have even invested in a mentor or invested into a course where
- 7:54you haven't been given, you know, independence, Oregon
- 7:57autonomy to really figure out who you are and how you want to
- 7:59do it. And instead, it's been a
- 8:00blueprint. And if that's capping you, I
- 8:02want to make sure you have resources to overcome that.
- 8:05At #8 we are diving into all the business trends for 2024,
- 8:08everything from AI, marketing strategies, and the future of
- 8:11hybrid business models coming in at #8 is episode 6.
- 8:16So the thing that I'm seeing that's actually helping
- 8:18businesses scale right now in their current structure and in
- 8:21today's landscape is really focusing on the relationships
- 8:25that they have with their clients, the depth of those
- 8:27relationships. Not just simply just this kind
- 8:30of this very superficial exchange of I pay you, you do
- 8:33this for me. The relationship factor is
- 8:35what's going to help you with longevity with your clients to
- 8:37also increase renewals and referrals for you.
- 8:40And I also will say it's something that in today's
- 8:43society, when we have the same person who does what you do is
- 8:49all over your client right now. So picture a client in your
- 8:52mind. That client has the same
- 8:54industry as yourself, the same service as yourself being shown
- 8:57to them every single day on social media.
- 9:00So they're constantly kind of getting this commercial
- 9:03basically of other things that could be their results.
- 9:06So your results matter. They also have the factor of the
- 9:09relationship that people have with their clients being
- 9:11marketed. That factor matters.
- 9:13So I really can't emphasize it enough.
- 9:15I think too many people coming into the online space or too
- 9:19transactional about this idea that if they just simply
- 9:23exchange money for service, that's enough.
- 9:25It no longer is going to cut it. People are much more into the
- 9:29relationship and the brand they're investing into and what
- 9:32the experience is, not just necessarily the product itself.
- 9:36And so going into next year, as you record this, it is 2023,
- 9:41going into 2024, the important thing that I want you to focus
- 9:44on is really asking yourself, how can I deepen the
- 9:46relationships with my clients? How can I really facilitate not
- 9:49just being there as the service provider to them, but also being
- 9:52there as a relationship with them?
- 9:55Ask yourself, how many renewals did I get last year?
- 9:58How many referrals have I gotten in the last 12 months?
- 10:01Right? Ask yourself those questions.
- 10:03And if those questions are I didn't get a lot or I didn't
- 10:05really get any, that tells you where you need to start.
- 10:08You need to start looking at the experience of your offer and the
- 10:10relationships that are happening within your client base as it
- 10:14stands today. I do believe that the
- 10:16relationships and the experience of your existing clients is
- 10:20going to greatly impact the experience and the amount of
- 10:23clients that you're going to have moving forward.
- 10:26Because the thing that I can tell you is that when we're
- 10:28buying into brands today, we care about the ethics, we care
- 10:32about the experience. And if you are not focusing on
- 10:34that, you will get left behind in 2024.
- 10:37This is not to scare you, this is not to make you
- 10:39uncomfortable. This is a matter of giving you
- 10:42the ability to step back right now and say, OK, how am I going
- 10:45to make some changes to make sure that I have those renewals,
- 10:48I have those referrals coming in, and I'm focusing on the
- 10:51relationship in the number seven spot.
- 10:53We've got the journey to business success, overcoming
- 10:56personal challenges and thriving as a female entrepreneur.
- 10:59The classic thing that I grew up with was the five step plan of
- 11:01like, you go to elementary school, you go to high school,
- 11:04you graduate with good grades, you get into university or
- 11:06college, you get a degree and then you get a really good job
- 11:10and you make 6 figures a year. You get married, you get a
- 11:12house, you get a white picket fence and a dog and you call it
- 11:14a day, right? Like that was what I grew up
- 11:17with. That was the yeah, like the
- 11:18narrative of what I was told success was the blueprint to
- 11:22life was going to look like. And so for me, I never really
- 11:24considered anything else. Like that was always OK, well,
- 11:26what am I going to do for school and what am I going to, you
- 11:28know, where am I going to live, live and like, what's the big
- 11:30job that I want to get and what's the career that I'm
- 11:32looking for? And so to be where I am today
- 11:35meant unpacking and really rewriting a lot of those
- 11:38narratives. And maybe you came from a family
- 11:40where you feel like nobody else around me is doing what I'm
- 11:43doing and nobody seems to understand what I'm looking to
- 11:46do here or you know, what I'm what I'm trying to achieve.
- 11:49And that's difficult because when you go into doing something
- 11:52that's so different than the people around you, you also have
- 11:54a lot of narratives of people around you that are impacting
- 11:57you, right? Their thoughts about you
- 11:58starting a business, their thoughts about you going into
- 12:01something that they're not familiar with.
- 12:02It's scary to them because they don't have any context of that
- 12:06working. And so that was very much my
- 12:07myself as well. Like there was a lot of growing
- 12:10up narratives around the fact that this was the way to be
- 12:13successful. And obviously I have gone, I
- 12:15veered to the right. I want a totally different
- 12:17direction and I'm grateful for that.
- 12:19But it doesn't mean that it wasn't difficult because again,
- 12:22I didn't have any conversations about what this looked like,
- 12:27like I, I was totally in the dark as to anything regarding
- 12:31entrepreneurship. And it was very much starting
- 12:32from Ground Zero. So I just really wanted to, you
- 12:35know, include that for you because I think it can be
- 12:38difficult for people who are so different than their family or
- 12:41feel that they're different, they feel like they're the black
- 12:43sheep to really feel confidence in that.
- 12:46And I was listening to a podcast, actually at my Let's
- 12:48podcast, which I highly recommend everyone listen to.
- 12:50It's an absolutely incredible podcast.
- 12:52And he was talking about the fact that it takes one person.
- 12:54It takes one person to change the narrative.
- 12:56It takes one person to change the history of their family.
- 12:58It takes one person to totally rewrite what has been known
- 13:03until that day in that family. And listening to that just made
- 13:08something click for me. It was a matter of the fact,
- 13:10like, I don't have to be, you know, weird.
- 13:13I don't have to be a black sheep.
- 13:14I can be someone who's just carving a new path for my family
- 13:17and the generations that follow. And so for me, that was
- 13:20something that I really want to be sure to share because I think
- 13:22a lot of people think, oh, yeah, OK.
- 13:24You know, there's this narrative of people who are successful to
- 13:26say, oh, did their parents help? Did they come from a family of
- 13:29entrepreneurs with their parents entrepreneurs?
- 13:30I was the only entrepreneur in my family.
- 13:32And more or less still am at this point.
- 13:33I don't have a lot of entrepreneurs in my media
- 13:35family. And so I want to encourage you
- 13:36that even if you are someone who is doing something totally
- 13:39different than the rest of your family, that is OK.
- 13:42And you are someone that is going to change the history of
- 13:45the new narrative for your family and the generations that
- 13:47follow coming in at #6 which is going to be the business trends
- 13:51for 2024. Everything AI, marketing
- 13:54strategies, the future of hybrid business models, and everything
- 13:57in between. In episode #6 buyers are more
- 14:01hesitant than ever. This is something that I want
- 14:04everyone to be aware of because I think a lot of people will
- 14:07say, I'm trying to sell X and it's just not selling the way it
- 14:10used to. And that is because people's
- 14:12past experiences with things that they're buying or with
- 14:16brands that they've dealt with are things that are leaving a
- 14:18bad taste in their mouth when it comes to investing again.
- 14:21And So what I'm seeing happening is people will say, well, like,
- 14:25I'm selling this master class and people are not buying it the
- 14:28way that they wanted to. I was trying to this course and
- 14:30it's not selling as hot as it used to.
- 14:32I'm trying to sell potentially one-on-one consulting with
- 14:34people. I'm selling a done for you
- 14:37service and it's not selling the same way.
- 14:38And that is because brands need to, in general, in my opinion,
- 14:43need to be focusing on the experience, right?
- 14:46Like we need to be focusing on the experience we're giving to
- 14:49clients. Again, back to that client
- 14:51experience of the outcome that they're generating with us, but
- 14:54also realizing that brands need to do better when it comes to
- 14:58really showcasing and marketing why we should trust them, right?
- 15:02So I was actually just talking to a client the other day and we
- 15:04were talking about the fact that when you are someone who's
- 15:07selling something right now, your audience has a couple core
- 15:09questions from anyone gonna buy from myself, you, your
- 15:12competitor, they have core questions, which is who the heck
- 15:14is this person? Okay, so who am I?
- 15:18Can I trust you? So they're looking for
- 15:20information to see who is this person?
- 15:21What do they do? Second, are you legit?
- 15:23So do I feel like I can trust you?
- 15:25Is there authority representation there?
- 15:28And 3rd, have you generated results before?
- 15:30So are you someone who's actually generated outcomes for
- 15:32people? And 4th, can you do them for
- 15:35someone like me? And so I'm often now in a lot of
- 15:38the coaching that I'm doing and consulting with businesses, I'm
- 15:40talking about the fact that they need to have those four areas
- 15:43covered. You need to make sure that I can
- 15:45very clearly understand who you are, what you do.
- 15:49Second, I need to see authority pieces.
- 15:51I need to feel like I can instantly find you on any social
- 15:54media platform and feel confident that I know you and I
- 15:57can trust you. Third, I need to be able to see
- 16:00that I can see results of people you've worked with and results
- 16:04that you've been able to generate for other people other
- 16:05than yourself. And 4th, if that is the case,
- 16:08you'll be able to generate results.
- 16:10I need to see variety in those results and not as a pillar that
- 16:13I will say, we've seen social proof day in, day out for many
- 16:16years. But I will say that I have seen
- 16:19this gap of people showcasing social proof with variety.
- 16:24There's a lot of social proof on the market right now that
- 16:26basically is like the same rinse and repeat consumer.
- 16:28And if you have a very niche market that makes sense.
- 16:30Say for example, I only help agencies with all of my social
- 16:33proof as agencies, then yeah, of course your social proof would
- 16:36just be agency reviews, right? However, if you were a business
- 16:40that has a wide variety in your markets, like for me, I help
- 16:42everything from like lawyers, bookkeepers, agencies, systems
- 16:46and operations people like it does not matter.
- 16:48The industry. I've helped publishing firms,
- 16:50literary agents, like it doesn't matter.
- 16:52But with all those industries, the thing that I have to focus
- 16:55on because I have not a very specific clientele is because in
- 17:00my social proof, I have to accentuate the variety of the
- 17:03different clientele that I work with.
- 17:04Otherwise, what happens if someone finds me on TikTok who's
- 17:07a little bit colder? They haven't been watching me a
- 17:08lot. They find my TikTok as a result
- 17:11and they go to my website and then they start to see all the
- 17:13social proof of like coach or agencies.
- 17:15If they are not one of those things, in their mind, they will
- 17:18say, yeah, you've generated the results for so and so, but you
- 17:21can't do it for me. And so they almost in themselves
- 17:24will disqualify you just simply based off the fact you don't
- 17:27have variety. And so that again is only if you
- 17:30don't have a very niche specific market and if you are very niche
- 17:33specific. So again, back to my example, if
- 17:35I am just for agencies, then I need to make that very clear in
- 17:40who I am and what I do because then that becomes the filter of
- 17:43how they assess your results. So again, I think that it is
- 17:46important now due to how many people have been burned by other
- 17:51people's delivery or other people's businesses that when
- 17:54they search out for that verification of you, they need
- 17:57to be able to find those things. So again, who are you, what do
- 18:00you do and can I trust you? Authority, Social proof, Have
- 18:03you generated results for people?
- 18:04And 4th, the results you've generated, yes, you've done it
- 18:07for them, but can you do it for me?
- 18:09And I need to see that variety. I need to see that selling point
- 18:12really hit home. And in some of your copy videos,
- 18:15social proof, etcetera, in the number 5 spot, which was a very
- 18:18popular episode, we have the Secrets to Building A7 figure
- 18:21business from episode #2. This was a very big awakening
- 18:25for many clients. And this was something that I
- 18:27learned in my own coaching was that there's so many people who
- 18:30can have a multiple 6A7 figure business, a multiple 7 figure
- 18:33business, and still very much be just a very high paid employee.
- 18:37What does this mean? If you are someone who feels
- 18:41that your business is controlling you, you feel like
- 18:44you are constant, it's running the show.
- 18:47It tells you when you have to start work.
- 18:49It tells you when you have to finish work.
- 18:51It tells you you know where you're spending your time and
- 18:53how you're going to spend your time.
- 18:54It's constantly pulling you in demand.
- 18:58You're not in control that business, it's controlling you,
- 19:02your business. You left a job where you worked
- 19:04for someone else and you have now gone to make a business
- 19:07where you were just a really well paid employee, essentially
- 19:11being ACEO, truly running you running A7 or multiple 7 figure
- 19:15business means you're in the driver's seat.
- 19:18It means that you are the one who makes decisions, that you
- 19:20decide how things are going to go, that you have the ability at
- 19:23a moment's notice to just change things if you need to and you
- 19:26have that control. If you can't do the things you
- 19:30want to do. If you feel that you have built
- 19:32this business but it's kind of backed you into a corner, well
- 19:36then guess what? It means you've been operating
- 19:38from a place of being an employee, not ACEO.
- 19:41So the good part is that this can change at any moment.
- 19:45You can decide to approach the business differently.
- 19:48A lot of the time I see this with businesses that I work with
- 19:51where they will actually make decisions again just for this
- 19:54pursuit of the seven figure or the multiple 7 figure goal, not
- 19:57realizing what it's taking. While you're trying to give
- 20:01yourself that target, it's taking a ton from you.
- 20:04You're not in control, you're not in the driver's seat.
- 20:07It's telling you what to do. It's demanding your attention,
- 20:09your time at all moments and you feel like you're a victim to
- 20:14your business. It's running the show.
- 20:16So remember, just because you have a 7 figure business does
- 20:20not mean you are CEO. It can mean you are a very high
- 20:23paid employee. And if this is the case and you
- 20:26feel this resonates with you, remember that this is really a
- 20:30matter of you getting a different strategy with your
- 20:31business and you being able to step back and say, OK, what
- 20:34about this is not working? Because while it is hitting my
- 20:37targets, while it is making me money, I don't like the way
- 20:40we're doing this. And I will tell you, this is
- 20:42very common. I work with businesses all the
- 20:44time who are multiple 6-7 figure, multiple 7 figure
- 20:46businesses who come to me and they're like, hey, I'm going to
- 20:48burn this to the ground. I hate it.
- 20:51I hate it. I built it because I knew it was
- 20:54working and it was making me sales and the social was working
- 20:57so I kept leaning into that. But I am miserable.
- 21:00I don't want it like this. I want that target but I don't
- 21:03want it like this. And that is because they have
- 21:06been stuck in this employee approach with their business and
- 21:10instead really need someone to come in and say, great, how do I
- 21:13actually put myself in the right place so I run the show, right?
- 21:18So again, you can have a very successful business and still be
- 21:20a very high paid employee. So the question asked yourself
- 21:22is, do you have control of your business right now or does your
- 21:25business control you? And if you feel like your
- 21:28business controls you, this can change.
- 21:31This doesn't have to stay this way, it can change, but you have
- 21:33to have a different strategy and approach your business from a
- 21:35different lens. In the number four spot, we've
- 21:38got creating work life harmony, how to navigate your schedule,
- 21:41optimize your productivity, and really master self-care from
- 21:44episode 10. I want to teach you some
- 21:46principles that allow you the flexibility and the fluidity to
- 21:49allow that to change as you go through these different stages.
- 21:52So first thing that I want to say is I think kind of even to
- 21:56the note of the title of today's episode of like really going
- 21:59into work life balance. First we need to have this
- 22:01conversation of like, what is balance?
- 22:03What does balance even mean? What does that even look like?
- 22:06And in my opinion, balance is really just a byproduct of what
- 22:09you value. And what I mean by that is some
- 22:12people really value, let's just say going to the gym.
- 22:18So having that, going to the gym hour in their day is essential
- 22:22because that's what they value. If you value spending time with
- 22:25family and you're like, family is the number one for me.
- 22:27And I have many clients. I feel that way.
- 22:29Many moms I work with, like family is number one of my
- 22:31business. Every single day I'm like,
- 22:32amazing. If that's the case, then you
- 22:34should be building your business around family, which means that
- 22:37you should have sufficient time to see family, spend time with
- 22:41family, intentional time with family.
- 22:42Or maybe your kid has soccer practice or hockey practice or
- 22:47dance recital and you're like, that is really important for me
- 22:50to be there. Then great.
- 22:51Let's work that into the structure of how you build your
- 22:54business. And so to me, your balance, your
- 22:58perfect schedule, your reality is a byproduct of what you
- 23:02value. And so I very much do believe on
- 23:04value based decision making, which means that one person's
- 23:07schedule may not look like something you want.
- 23:10And that's because what they're doing may be something you don't
- 23:12value and your schedule may look different than theirs and they
- 23:16don't want it because they don't value what you value.
- 23:18Base your balance off what you value.
- 23:21And so This is why I don't believe in this like one
- 23:23template structure, because what I value in the stage of my life
- 23:26is not the same as I'm going to likely value in the next 10
- 23:29years. And so I want you to think about
- 23:32looking and balancing your calendar, your structure of your
- 23:36week off of your values. So for me, what this means is I
- 23:40basically look at my calendar and if at a snapshot, I try to
- 23:43put as much in my calendar to give me this visual
- 23:45representation as I can. But when I look at my schedule,
- 23:48I literally will see, OK, how much of what I value is in here.
- 23:53So like how much of my health time is in here?
- 23:56How much my family or friends time is in here?
- 23:58Is there like a date night in there?
- 24:00Is there time for sleep at quit in there like the things that
- 24:04you care about? If I was to take a snapshot of
- 24:06your calendar, I heard this quote.
- 24:07I'm going to mess up the quote for sure.
- 24:09But basically it was saying, if I saw your schedule, if I saw
- 24:14what you do, what would I assume that you value?
- 24:18And and I think that that was really like for me, the easiest
- 24:22snapshot of really at any moment knowing, quote UN quote, success
- 24:25for me at a given moment, which was right now.
- 24:27If I asked you and I looked at your schedule and I saw what you
- 24:31did literally every day, Monday to Friday for the last week or
- 24:33so, what would I see? And if you couldn't give me
- 24:37context, what would I assume your values are?
- 24:40So do you have time in there? Is it all work?
- 24:43Is there no work? Was there all lots of family
- 24:45time, No family time, your schedule, if I watched your
- 24:49day-to-day life, I should be able to see what it is that you
- 24:52care about. And so if I can't see that gives
- 24:54us an opportunity to kind of readjust and quote UN quote
- 24:57rebalance, right? So I will say again, your
- 25:01seasons are going to look different and therefore your
- 25:03values will change, right? It's my value right now in my
- 25:06business is very much a lot about my business because I have
- 25:09the ability to be selfish right now.
- 25:13When I have kids, I'm not gonna have as much ability to be
- 25:16selfish because I have other people that I'm responsible for,
- 25:18right? So for me, my values right now
- 25:21are very much about business. But eventually, when I have a
- 25:24family, we'll definitely tip more toward family than they
- 25:27will business. And for me, values I consider
- 25:30are things like health, relationships, like, I think
- 25:33almost about like the wheel of life in a way.
- 25:35And I look at my schedule every week and I say, how much of each
- 25:37of the pieces of the wheel of life have I taken care of?
- 25:39How I feel about my personal development, my mindset, my
- 25:42health, my physical health, my mental health, my career?
- 25:45Do I feel like relationships, All those pieces are being taken
- 25:48care of in a given week. And if I feel like there's
- 25:50balance amongst the wheel, in my opinion, then I do feel like,
- 25:54OK, like I've done my job. In highlight three, we are
- 25:56talking all things burnout. So how to navigate burnout?
- 25:59Insights to recognizing it, addressing it, and most
- 26:01importantly, overcoming it in episode #5 I'm someone who's
- 26:05been going to therapy. I'm very much pro therapy.
- 26:08I think that everyone, to be honest, regardless of who you
- 26:10are, should be in therapy. Not because I think there's this
- 26:12misconception. Therapy's like, oh, something's
- 26:14wrong with me. I need to go talk to somebody
- 26:15about it. Therapy to me is simply getting
- 26:20a non emotional third party who does not have any preconceived
- 26:26ideas about you or your life or any of those things and gives
- 26:30you an honest third party opinion of what they see in you
- 26:34or what they see as patterns in you.
- 26:36They identify your blind spots and they're non emotional.
- 26:40And when I the reason I keep saying non emotional is because
- 26:42sometimes when we go to get insight, we go to our parents or
- 26:45we go to people who know us, we go to our friends, right?
- 26:48And therapists don't have all of that emotional connection to
- 26:53them. It is simply a matter of let us
- 26:55unpack the facts and let's present this in a new lens,
- 26:58right? So therapy for me, a couple
- 27:00things that really helped me. I worked with my therapist to
- 27:03really talk about how I was making decisions at that time
- 27:05when I was the most burnt out and I was making decisions from
- 27:09a flawed belief system. So that was kind of the the
- 27:12slogan that I want to pass along to you is burnout is a byproduct
- 27:15of making decisions from a flawed belief system.
- 27:19So what does that mean? You everyday should be making
- 27:23decisions based off of your values, not how you feel when
- 27:26you wake up, you're going to feel certain things.
- 27:28I feel tired today. I feel like I don't want to eat
- 27:31healthy today. I feel like I don't feel like
- 27:33moving today, Right? You feel you feel, you feel.
- 27:35What do we know about feelings? We know for a fact that feelings
- 27:38are fluid and that feelings go up and they go down and they can
- 27:41change so quickly in couple minutes, in 1/2 an hour, in an
- 27:48hour, right? Your emotions can change.
- 27:50And so The thing is, when you tie your behavior to your
- 27:55emotions, you're going to see your results or your life be a
- 27:59byproduct of that fluidity of feelings, right?
- 28:02Because if you're constantly making decisions up and down
- 28:04based off of feelings, your life and your outcome and your
- 28:06reality is going to be up and down.
- 28:08So one of the things that I do now, I do this with my clients
- 28:10as well because again, I really want to help people to not only
- 28:13come back from burnout, but also to prevent burnout as well, is
- 28:18looking at making your decisions in your life from a value
- 28:21system. So what do I mean by this?
- 28:24For example, one of my values is harmony.
- 28:26Do I have harmony in the things that I care about, for example,
- 28:31values? Another one for me would be
- 28:34boundaries like taking care of myself first than others.
- 28:38And So what this does is ends up being this kind of internal.
- 28:41I want to think about this as almost like an internal
- 28:43commandments like you're going to have this internal system
- 28:48that you'll use to check in to say, OK, how am I doing right?
- 28:52How am I doing with the things that I care about?
- 28:54How am I doing with what I prioritize what I know to be
- 28:57true? And you're going to actually
- 29:00take that and look at your week every week and say, how did I do
- 29:03to make decisions based off my values?
- 29:05For example, I don't feel like going and working out or going
- 29:10to the gym or going to do something movement wise.
- 29:13Well, I could say, well, that's based off how I feel, but what
- 29:15do I value? I value taking care of my health
- 29:18and I value making sure that I move my body in some way every
- 29:22single day. So for me, I'm like, I don't
- 29:24feel like going to the gym, go for a walk.
- 29:26I don't feel like going for a walk.
- 29:28Go do yoga. Don't feel like doing yoga, go
- 29:30take another class, right? Like go do something, go ride
- 29:33your bike, go do a boxing class, do an online whatever, do some
- 29:37kind of program, do something to just move your body because
- 29:41that's what you value. You value moving your body in
- 29:43some way, shape or form every day.
- 29:44You don't necessarily have to value.
- 29:45I go to the gym every day and I crush my PR.
- 29:48It's more a matter of OK, great, what do I actually value?
- 29:51And then checking it with yourself and saying, even for
- 29:53you, what do you actually value? What are the things that matter
- 29:55to you? What are the things that you
- 29:57hold to be true in your life? And taking some attention.
- 29:59It's time to sit back and take time to outline these things.
- 30:03Take time to get clarity because the other thing I know is this
- 30:07clarity is not just gonna happen because you listen to this
- 30:09episode and all of a sudden you're like great, OK, got it.
- 30:12And then it, it just sits and nothing happens with it.
- 30:14Take the spark, take the awareness and take that and
- 30:17actually make that into something.
- 30:19Make that into a plan for yourself.
- 30:20In highlight #2 we are talking all things Creating your dream
- 30:24clients and strategies for effective client management.
- 30:26From episode 17. When we're going into the sales
- 30:30process, it's about qualifying. So I qualify based off of the
- 30:33person who they are, IE is it the ideal client that I serve?
- 30:36Example, we do not serve brick and mortar businesses any
- 30:39longer. And we also do not serve anyone
- 30:41who is just for example, in the influencing era in the sense of
- 30:44like they don't have their own product or service to sell.
- 30:48They're selling themselves. If you sell yourself as your
- 30:51main offering, IE like brand partnerships and things like
- 30:54that, that's not something that we help with.
- 30:56And we don't help with brick and mortar businesses, which means
- 30:58on your application or on your intake to work with us.
- 31:01If we see that, we will actually contact you and say, hey, it's
- 31:04not that we don't have some strategies that would be
- 31:06effective for you, but because I know where you are and what you
- 31:10want to be doing, this is not something that's a good fit for
- 31:12you, right? So I qualify and say based off
- 31:15who you are and what you do, this is not for you.
- 31:17Here's what I recommend this debt and I try to get them help
- 31:20elsewhere with someone who is a better fit.
- 31:22Two, I'm looking again, as I said at that problem.
- 31:25So example, in one of our offerings, we have a minimum
- 31:28requirement of how much you have to be making in your business.
- 31:31And we also have a minimum requirement of the types of
- 31:35skills or I guess say stage of understanding you have to have
- 31:38of your business. So for example, if you don't
- 31:40have consistent marketing going out already, if you don't have a
- 31:43product suite that's already been developed, some of those
- 31:45are key qualifiers to work with us.
- 31:47Why? Because the problems we solve
- 31:49inside that offering and what we're going to be teaching you
- 31:51and supporting you with are to build off of those initial
- 31:55foundational elements. And so if you don't have those,
- 31:59the actual product is not physically going to work for you
- 32:02because it's assuming a lot of things upon starting.
- 32:06And so if you don't have it, it's kind of like saying I want
- 32:08to go get my master's degree, but I've never gone to
- 32:10university or never gone to school before this, right?
- 32:12There's a qualifier before that step of that offer.
- 32:15And so if you don't have that base, you know, university
- 32:18degree, the masters of our program is not going to be a
- 32:21good fit. And therefore we rule out those
- 32:24people because you recognize it is out of integrity for us to
- 32:28sell them on the masters when they don't have the base, you
- 32:31know, university understanding, right?
- 32:33So that's really about the problem that we solve.
- 32:36And the product isn't actually a good fit.
- 32:39Now, most importantly, I also am looking at process, which is in
- 32:42the sales process. I might have someone who says to
- 32:44me, you know, I want this, this, this.
- 32:46And in my mind, I'm thinking, OK, like that is very much a
- 32:49intensive, maybe one of my VIP days, something that's kind of
- 32:52like a very short, intense offering got a long term
- 32:55offering. And so when I hear all of their
- 32:58descriptors and then they say, oh, yeah, but I want six months
- 33:02of coaching, ongoing coaching, maybe private or inside of our
- 33:04mastermind, I have to be conscious to say, OK, well, wait
- 33:07a second, Is that even the right product for them?
- 33:09Is that actually what they need based off what they're telling
- 33:12me? And so I have to often tell
- 33:15people, hey, even though you're saying you want offer B, what
- 33:19you actually described to me was my offer A.
- 33:22So I have to read between the lines, not just to say say that,
- 33:25oh, this person wants to send me, you know, fifteen $20,000
- 33:28for an offer. Great.
- 33:29I'm going to sign them into it based off what they describe to
- 33:32me as what they're going through.
- 33:33That is not the product that they need, even though they
- 33:35think that's the product that they want.
- 33:37And so out of integrity, I actually just had a conversation
- 33:40with someone last week and they said, you know, I'm thinking
- 33:41about this, I'm thinking about that.
- 33:43What do you think? And I said, I'm going to be
- 33:44honest with you. If you do not buy product, AI
- 33:48don't want to sell you into anything else.
- 33:50Because truthfully, even though I know you're saying like, take
- 33:53my money, it doesn't serve you for what you're looking to do.
- 33:57So unless we can get on the same page that this offering is what
- 34:01you want to invest into, I don't think that I would sell you into
- 34:04anything else because it'd be out of integrity for me to do
- 34:07so. And I often in the sales process
- 34:09will pivot business in the sense of putting it into a different
- 34:12offering than they maybe came in for.
- 34:14And I also will turn away business based off of the
- 34:16problem they have or the person in the sense of the avatar of
- 34:19business that they are because we don't serve it.
- 34:21And so ask yourself, what is your qualifier, right?
- 34:25Like what are the list of things that you do not help with?
- 34:28What are the list of people that you maybe do not serve?
- 34:31And is your qualifier right now only on price?
- 34:35And if it is on price, if we're wanting to be, you know,
- 34:37obviously respectful of the fact that people have certain budgets
- 34:40and that they can't afford some things and not others, the
- 34:43question becomes, how are you qualifying on price?
- 34:45My one advice to you that I just I genuinely cannot stand when it
- 34:49comes to sales processes is that people will have on like an
- 34:53intake for a service or they'll have on an intake for anything
- 34:57inside their world that they'll say what's your budget?
- 35:00And if the person's budget on paper is not the one O 1 of what
- 35:04their budget is for their offer, they just don't even talk to
- 35:06them be like, never mind. Next you're not qualified.
- 35:09You know, you don't want to spend X amount.
- 35:12My coaching to you on that if you were my client is to also
- 35:15realize that in many different services and offerings, your
- 35:19ideal client maybe doesn't even recognize what the investment
- 35:22required is. I made an investment recently
- 35:24and I went in truthfully with the mindset it was like it was
- 35:27gonna be $10,000, like I was convinced it was gonna be
- 35:30$10,000. And I think probably by the end
- 35:32of this entire process now I've probably spent around I would
- 35:35say like 30-40 thousand dollars. And so this is just such case in
- 35:40point to me of the fact that if they had looked at my
- 35:43application or my intake to work with this done for you service
- 35:46and said like, oh, her budget is 10,000, we're not working with
- 35:48her. They would have turned away a
- 35:50potential additional $30,000 in addition to that $10,000 of
- 35:54revenue that I have now given them.
- 35:56And so I think it's important for us to recognize that also
- 35:59qualifying, how are you qualifying?
- 36:02I really believe in qualifying based off conversation, not off
- 36:06of necessarily just process. And so like one of the elements
- 36:09that we use in our sales process is our triage.
- 36:11So we actually have a 15 minute consultation.
- 36:14That's the kind of like a short qualifying call before any time
- 36:17that someone's going to be sold into anything.
- 36:19And the reason that we do that is because I want to ask some
- 36:21clarifying questions. And that has allowed us to see
- 36:25like on one side, someone's application or intake and on the
- 36:28other side, their conversation and, and their clarity points
- 36:31that they've given to us. And we realize, Oh my God, if I
- 36:33had just turned that away entirely based off of not
- 36:37getting this context now, I would have turned away who's now
- 36:40a fantastic client, right? So this process and this
- 36:43qualifying is a great way to use this to make sure you're getting
- 36:48the right people in the right products to solve the right
- 36:52problems. And it's again, even though you
- 36:54might think, well, Kate, like what if I'm turning away
- 36:56business? Though you also have to ask
- 36:58yourself, what is the number one priority here?
- 37:00Is it just collect cash and whatever that comes with, that's
- 37:03your goal? Or is this to really make sure
- 37:05that your reputation is centered around serving people to solve
- 37:08their problem in the core things that they're struggling with,
- 37:12regardless of what that means for you?
- 37:14And I really have found when it comes to the sales, if we want
- 37:17to talk revenue side, I have found that clients actually
- 37:21respect me more for the fact that I will not sell them into
- 37:25just anything that will process a payment, right?
- 37:29It's not about me in the sales process.
- 37:31When you want to work with great clients, it's about putting the
- 37:33client 1st and saying what does the client need?
- 37:36What will serve the client and that person, that problem?
- 37:39What process do they need and find the best fit?
- 37:41And if it happens to be that you don't have that thing, then so
- 37:44be it. Let the pieces fall where they
- 37:45may. Highlight one is going to be
- 37:47from episode 22, where we're going to be breaking down how a
- 37:51client was able to go from 25K to seven figures.
- 37:55When you're going into a launch, at least when you're
- 37:57intentionally doing launching, you're not just putting out
- 38:00content when you're launching, Launching is just as much
- 38:03planning and prepping. But there's also this aspect of
- 38:06response, right? And so it's, yes, being, you
- 38:10know, proactive in the way that you go into it, but also
- 38:12reactive because launching, you have to remember, is about
- 38:16understanding of sales psychology.
- 38:17It's understanding of marketing strategy, it's understanding why
- 38:20people buy and trickling and pressing certain buttons in a
- 38:23certain series of time. It's basic essence.
- 38:25That's really what it is. But the thing you have to
- 38:27remember is that you are not somebody who has this crystal
- 38:31ball. There's a lot of strategy and
- 38:32there's a lot of psychology as to what works in marketing,
- 38:35which is why a lot of these campaigns can follow a
- 38:37structure. But the other thing you have to
- 38:39remember is when you're going into launching, launching is
- 38:41also just as much responsive and hearing what your audience is
- 38:44saying, listening to what's working or not working and
- 38:47making adjustments along the way.
- 38:49And so this first launch for us was all hands on deck because it
- 38:52basically meant that when we were going into this, I wanted
- 38:55to see what was resonating with people, but I also had to see
- 38:58how they responded to our marketing approach to know how
- 39:02to adjust that for the future. When she wanted to launch again,
- 39:05I needed to know what kind of buyer type she had.
- 39:07I need to know what topics triggered.
- 39:09I need to know what lenses hit home with her audience.
- 39:11And so this launch was going to be basically our shot at getting
- 39:14all that data to give her a true rinse and repeat structure
- 39:17moving forward. So when we launched this, we
- 39:20decided we're putting it back out to the world.
- 39:22We were like, OK, we are going to create a lot of hype around
- 39:25this. So I want to say the entire
- 39:26launch from start to finish in the sense of the entire
- 39:29marketing campaign probably lasted around four to five weeks
- 39:32for the first time that we did it.
- 39:33And so we did the e-mail campaigns, we built out an
- 39:36entire social calendar all rooted in the marketing
- 39:38messaging of the post and everything.
- 39:40And so we decided that we were going to relaunch it to to her
- 39:43audience. And so I have to tell you,
- 39:46there's so many wins that she's been able to achieve, but she
- 39:49actually sold out the first launch and we closed doors
- 39:52early. I remember we had a plan of a
- 39:54certain amount of time and she was like, Kate, like, this is
- 39:57insane. Like it's just, it's flying off
- 39:59the shelf basically. And when it comes to what she
- 40:03was able to achieve, quite literally insane.
- 40:06She actually just has some of the highlights for you.
- 40:09She had seven figures within 3 calls of us planning these items
- 40:12out that I'm discussing. She hit six figures in 10
- 40:14minutes. Of opening one of her launches,
- 40:17one launch that we did together did $500,000 in cash in half of
- 40:22a day and another launch that we did, we did $600,000 / 6 weeks.
- 40:28So when I tell you guys, I like to focus on marketing.
- 40:32I like to focus on marketing because that's really like where
- 40:35that's where the win is. That's where there's a lot of
- 40:38momentum and movement that can happen.
- 40:40So we relaunched this. She has these massive wins.
- 40:43I remember us in Slack. It just makes me smile because
- 40:45she was like, holy shit, holy shit.
- 40:47And I'm like one thing after another and she's seeing like
- 40:49win, win, win. And she was like giving me this
- 40:51updated total. She's like, this is wild.
- 40:53And so to her, I remember saying like, we have a whole other
- 40:56week. We're not done.
- 40:57We've got to keep going. And she was like, this is a lot
- 40:59like, I think I'm good. I feel good.
- 41:01And I'm like, OK, like we can keep going if you want.
- 41:03It's up to you if you want to keep rolling with it.
- 41:05She was like, no, it's the first launch.
- 41:06Like this is the first Test in the water.
- 41:08Let's get our our kind of like footing.
- 41:10Let me get these people in. And then once I have all of them
- 41:13situated, we'll kind of go again.
- 41:14And I'm like, sounds great. So once we went through this
- 41:17launch, we learned a lot. We learned a lot of what worked.
- 41:19We learned, you know, what kind of people would move at what
- 41:22stages like it really gave us so, so much insight as to what
- 41:25was going to hit home for everybody.
- 41:27All righty, I hope you enjoyed those 10 segments.
- 41:29As I said, those are the 10 pieces that our audience of
- 41:32ambitious women really love diving into.
- 41:35And so if there was 1 today that really resonated with you,
- 41:37please feel free to shoot me Adm slide into my messages.
- 41:41I absolutely love hearing from you and the feedback that you
- 41:43have of pieces of the podcast that resonated with you, topics
- 41:46that we talked about that you really enjoyed, and really
- 41:48frankly, anything that we can do in these episodes to bring even
- 41:51more value to you and what you're working on as an
- 41:53ambitious woman with your business.
- 41:55So with that being said, I hope you guys enjoyed today's episode
- 41:58and I will see you next week on ambitious.
- 42:00And, as always, stay ambitious.
