Hello Marvel fans, comic geeks and all nerds in between.
• 0:11
My name is Megan and I'm here with another character breakdown
• 0:14
today and it's a character that I want to see so much more of
• 0:16
and I am confused why we haven't So.
• 0:21
So who is Jericho Drum AKA Doctor Voodoo?
• 0:24
Jericho Drum first appeared in Marvel Comics in Strange tales
• 0:28
#169 of June of 1973 and was created by Stan Lee, Len Wayne
• 0:33
and John Romita Senior. Jericho and Daniel Drum both
• 0:36
grew up in a poor village in Haiti, but their lives went
• 0:39
totally different directions. Daniel stayed behind and became
• 0:43
a local Hungan, which is a voodoo priest, while Jericho
• 0:46
moved to the US to build a career as a psychologist and
• 0:49
scholar. Years later, Jericho moved back
• 0:52
home after hearing his brother was dying.
• 0:54
Daniel told him he'd been cursed by a dark priest claiming to be
• 0:57
the serpent God Dambala, and with his last breath, he begged
• 1:01
Jericho to find Papa Jambo, a master of good magic, for help.
• 1:07
At first, Jericho got publicly humiliated by Dambala, which
• 1:11
pushed him to get serious about avenging his brother.
• 1:15
Papa Jambo refused to fight directly, but revealed Jericho
• 1:19
was actually the one meant to be the powerful Hungan all along.
• 1:23
Under his training, Jericho picked up voodoo very quickly,
• 1:27
eventually becoming more skilled than Daniel ever was.
• 1:31
To give him the powers he needed, Papa Jambo performed a
• 1:34
ritual that brought Daniel's spirit back and fused it with
• 1:37
Jericho. Soon after, Papa Jumbo died,
• 1:40
passing the mantle on. With his brother's spirit now
• 1:43
inside him, Jericho became Brother Voodoo.
• 1:46
Dambala tried to prove himself as the top voodoo master by
• 1:50
gathering the counsel of Vaadu, but Jericho showed up and he
• 1:55
shut it down. He beat Dambala in a magical
• 1:58
showdown, causing Dambala to be destroyed by his own power.
• 2:02
After that, one of Dambala's former followers, Bamboo,
• 2:07
switched sides and became Jericho's ally.
• 2:09
Brother Voodoo stayed in Haiti for a while, acting as a
• 2:12
superhero and protecting people with Bamboo as his right hand
• 2:16
  man. Eventually, Jericho moved back
• 2:18
to the US and set up in a flashy mansion in New Orleans, French
• 2:21
Quarter. When Haiti started dealing with
• 2:24
zombie attacks supposedly led by Baron Sam Many, Jericho went
• 2:29
back to investigate, only to discover that it was actually
• 2:32
AIM running experiments. Since he was immune to their
• 2:36
mind control, he took down their operation and freed the victims.
• 2:41
Back in the States, at the Mississippi River to be precise,
• 2:44
he saved a girl named Laura Lee Tate from drowning, but she
• 2:48
later got kidnapped by a colt who managed to knock Voodoo out
• 2:51
in his own home. Helped by her father, Inspector
• 2:55
Samuel Tate, Brother Voodoo decided to rescue her.
• 2:58
The seer Mama Limbo LED Brother Voodoo to Desmond Drew's mansion
• 3:03
where he could not find any clues.
• 3:05
Ambushed by the evil cult, however, Voodoo pretended to be
• 3:09
subdued in order to get apprehended and infiltrate their
• 3:13
temple where they he met their leader, Black Talon.
• 3:17
After fighting Black Talon, it was revealed that Mama Limbo was
• 3:21
the mastermind behind the kidnapping as she was draining
• 3:25
Laura Lee to stay young. Following her accidental death,
• 3:29
Black Talon revealed to be her son Desmond Drew, which exposed
• 3:33
him as a fraud and damaged his credibility to his cult brother.
• 3:37
Voodoo and Laura Lee Tate then left safe and sound.
• 3:40
From there, Jericho dealt with all kinds of supernatural
• 3:43
threats. He teamed up with Spider Man to
• 3:44
stop the deadly Moon Dog the Malicious.
• 3:46
He helped fight Dracula in Brazil and even assisted
• 3:50
Werewolf by Night by letting Daniel's spirit temporarily
• 3:52
control the werewolf. He also worked with A Thing to
• 3:55
stop a human trafficking operation in Uganda tied to dark
• 3:59
magic. But not everything went as
• 4:01
smoothly as those did. He once got captured and knocked
• 4:04
out during a weird fighting tournament, and at another point
• 4:08
he got tempted by a powerful artifact tied to Dumbala that
• 4:13
backfired badly, letting the God take over his brother's soul,
• 4:18
destroy his home, and seemingly kill Bamboo.
• 4:21
Jericho nearly lost control completely until Doctor Strange
• 4:25
stepped in and freed him. He later teamed up with Moon
• 4:28
Knight to fight zombie outbreaks, battled vampires
• 4:31
alongside Doctor Strange and others, and even had to destroy
• 4:35
the zombies he summoned once they'd serve their purpose.
• 4:39
His personal life got messy, too.
• 4:41
He tried to magically force Lorelei to love him, realized it
• 4:45
was wrong, and they broke up. After that, Jericho refocused
• 4:50
and even writing a book and going on a tour while keeping up
• 4:53
his superhero work. He helped Daredevil break free
• 4:56
from a curse, assisted Blade and other heroes against vampire
• 5:00
plots, and revived Iron Fist, who used his life force to
• 5:05
resurrect Blue Cage and teamed up with Black Panther and Gambit
• 5:09
on different missions. He also became deeply tied to
• 5:12
New Orleans, seeing himself as its protector during the Scroll
• 5:16
invasion. He was secretly replaced by a
• 5:18
Scroll imposter, who ended up exposing the invasion when it
• 5:22
was killed. Jericho later got pulled into an
• 5:25
even weirder situations, like sending Deadpool into someone's
• 5:28
soul and helping fight off the Wendigo invasion alongside major
• 5:32
heroes. Eventually, he was chosen to
• 5:36
become the Sorcerer's Supreme after Doctor Strange, proving
• 5:39
that he had both the skill and the heart for it.
• 5:41
He took the role very, very seriously, traveling across
• 5:44
dimensions to lock away dangerous supernatural forces
• 5:48
and protected the world, even pushing himself to exhaustion
• 5:52
while still working as a doctor at a free clinic.
• 5:55
Things got intense when he faced Nightmare, dealt with Doctor
• 5:59
Doom's schemes, and handled A prophecy about a massive cost of
• 6:03
cosmic threat. At one point he actually died
• 6:07
using the Eye of Agamotto to stop a powerful enemy, but was
• 6:10
later came back during the Chaos War.
• 6:13
From there he joined teams like The Avengers Unity Division,
• 6:17
dealt with conflicts involving his own brother, siding with
• 6:20
dark forces you think you know a person, and helped stop the
• 6:24
corrupted Hulk by entering his mind and choosing to save his
• 6:27
  friend over bringing Daniel back.
• 6:30
Daniel is his brother. Just so we're all keeping up.
• 6:33
Later on, Jericho became a teacher, eventually a headmaster
• 6:37
at Strange Academy, training the next generation of magic users.
• 6:41
He dealt with rebellious students, dark magic influences,
• 6:44
and even attacks from Dormammu, all while trying to keep the
• 6:48
school together. On top of all that, he continued
• 6:52
helping other heroes with magical problems, dealing with
• 6:55
cosmic level threats, and navigating major changes like
• 6:58
Doctor Doom, taking over a Sorcerer's Supreme and reshaping
• 7:01
the world, which is one world under Doom.
• 7:03
That's the event, you should check it out.
• 7:06
Even in more recent events, Jericho kept getting pulled into
• 7:09
dangerous situations, helping Hulk with mystical problems,
• 7:14
trying and partially failing to cure storms, radiation poisoning
• 7:19
through a risky magical deal, and getting targeted by powerful
• 7:23
entities like the Eldest and even Death herself who wanted to
• 7:26
turn him into her avatar to lead a supernatural war.
• 7:30
Through everything, Jericho stays caught between science,
• 7:34
magic, life, death and responsibility, constantly
• 7:38
dealing with forces way bigger than himself, remaining a
• 7:41
champion of the supernatural world and still trying to do the
• 7:44
right thing. Because isn't that what a hero
• 7:47
does? So that was Jericho Drum.
• 7:50
  Brother Voodoo. Doctor Voodoo.
• 7:52
He's Doctor Voodoo now, I think he's a really cool character.
• 7:55
I love Marvel's magical side and I would love to see more of him.
• 8:00
He's just, there's just so much depth with him.
• 8:03
He is just such a banger of a character.
• 8:08
So yeah, that's who I wanted to talk about today.
• 8:10
I hope you enjoyed it. I hope you learned something and
• 8:13
I hope you will like and subscribe.
• 8:15
With that being said, have a marvelous day.
