A new bumble bee has officially arrived in Wisconsin — the Nevada bumble bee, a big, long-tongued pollinator that’s slowly creeping east from its western roots. Spotted last summer in Sauk County, it’s the first confirmed sighting in the state and follows appearances in Minnesota and near Chicago. Unlike the dreaded “killer bees” of decades past, this one is a welcome addition — vital for pollinating deep-throated flowers and easily spotted by its striking black head and bright yellow thorax. Scientists are still figuring out why it’s expanding its range, but climate shifts or habitat changes…
