The Music Dial · Oct 11, 2026 · 5m

Soul, pop, hip-hop, jazz and television history come together in today’s episode of The Music Dial, with stories connected to October 11.

We celebrate Daryl Hall, MC Lyte and Cardi B, remember jazz legend Art Blakey, and go back to the very first broadcast of Saturday Night Live, with musical guests Billy Preston and Janis Ian.

One date, several generations, and music stretching from Philly soul and hard bop to pioneering hip-hop and modern rap.
