- 2:38Now to City Watch. Sacramento County leaders
- 2:40are moving forward with a major overhaul of how
- 2:43homelessness services are coordinated across
- 2:46the region. This week, the Sacramento County
- 2:49Board of Supervisors voted to appoint Supervisors
- 2:53Patrick Kennedy and Rich Desmond to the newly
- 2:56formed Planning Task Force focused on creating
- 2:58a unified regional homelessness governance structure.
- 3:03County officials say the effort comes after more
- 3:06than two years of discussions between Sacramento
- 3:09County, the city of Sacramento, Sacramento Steps
- 3:12Forward, and other local jurisdictions about
- 3:15how to better coordinate homelessness response
- 3:18efforts amid rising unhoused population and increasing
- 3:22strains on funding streams. Proposed framework
- 3:25would create a single governance board serving
- 3:28dual roles, acting as federally continuum of
- 3:32care board while also advising local governments
- 3:36on shelter operations, encampment response, housing
- 3:39coordination, and broader homelessness policy.
- 3:43Supporters say the unified structure could improve
- 3:46regional coordination, strengthen accountability,
- 3:48and make Sacramento more competitive for future
- 3:52state and federal homelessness funding opportunities.
