- 0:00Speaker 1: Mark Simone, live from the WOR LifeVac studios. Well, Howie
- 0:08Speaker 1: Carr is one of the great talk show hosts in America,
- 0:11Speaker 1: also a best-selling author, his latest book coming out, Mass
- 0:14Speaker 1: Corruption 2, his radio show, his podcast on iHeart, and
- 0:18Speaker 1: you can get everything at HowieCarrShow.com. Just go to his website, HowieCarrShow.com.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Howie Carr, how are you doing?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Very good, very good. Mark, the president is scheduled to
- 0:33Speaker 2: speak at 8.15. Kickoff between the Super Bowl rematch, the
- 0:38Speaker 2: start of the NFL season, is 8.20. Which will you
- 0:43Speaker 2: be watching?
- 0:44Speaker 1: Well, you know, shouldn't somebody be getting yelled at on
- 0:48Speaker 1: the planning team? Doesn't that NFL schedule come out way
- 0:52Speaker 1: in advance? Don't they know?
- 0:55Speaker 2: Well, I mean, the Wednesday night game was kind of
- 0:57Speaker 2: a surprise, but you're right. The advance team is supposed
- 1:00Speaker 2: to know stuff like that that most people don't notice
- 1:03Speaker 2: until the actual day of the game, right?
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Someone made a mistake, I think.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Should I skip both of them just to watch the
- 1:11Speaker 1: Rhode Island primary tonight?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah. yeah, they're, they're trying to gin that up, but it's,
- 1:20Speaker 2: it's not, it's kind of a non-starter, you know, I
- 1:23Speaker 2: don't think there's much going on there.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You know, they asked him, why are you doing the
- 1:26Speaker 1: only Wednesday night primary? They said, well, it was Labor Day.
- 1:29Speaker 1: You can't do it the day after Labor Day. Don't
- 1:31Speaker 1: every other state do that? Why not? New Hampshire just
- 1:35Speaker 1: did it.
- 1:35Speaker 2: New Hampshire just did it. Yeah. And, uh, yeah, we
- 1:37Speaker 2: did it. Massachusetts did it September 1st. I mean, that
- 1:40Speaker 2: was kind of a new thing, but you know, it's not,
- 1:43Speaker 2: it's not a big deal. I, it's just, it's just odd.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I don't, I don't know. It's pretty interesting. I'm not
- 1:52Speaker 2: on the air today. I've got to go to an
- 1:56Speaker 2: event in New Hampshire. John Sununu is going to be
- 1:59Speaker 2: the nominee against Chris Pappas for the Senate seat. He's
- 2:03Speaker 2: bringing up Tom Cotton, who's the great senator from Arkansas.
- 2:08Speaker 2: He's the one who... You know, he was denounced by
- 2:13Speaker 2: the New York Times and the Washington Post for pushing
- 2:16Speaker 2: debunked theories about COVID. And then they had to issue
- 2:22Speaker 2: corrections later on. Corrections, those debunked theories. Turns out they're
- 2:26Speaker 2: not so debunked anymore, you know.
- 2:29Speaker 1: This Republican convention, midterm convention, a brilliant idea. But you're right,
- 2:33Speaker 1: wrong scheduling. And let's say they put on great speeches.
- 2:37Speaker 1: The president's unbelievable. Who's going to see it? Where is
- 2:40Speaker 1: it going to run? Nobody will see it.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's going to be on Fox, but
- 2:46Speaker 2: that's preaching to the converted, right?
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not going to help. They already got the
- 2:50Speaker 1: Fox voters.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, the thing is, I asked, we've
- 2:56Speaker 2: had some guy on the show yesterday, one of the
- 2:58Speaker 2: quote-unquote delegates, and I said, who's down there from Massachusetts?
- 3:03Speaker 2: And he named the national committee man and woman, the
- 3:07Speaker 2: state party chairman. I said, are there any elected officials
- 3:10Speaker 2: down there? Not that there are many in Massachusetts that
- 3:13Speaker 2: are Republican. He said, no, no one's down there. I mean,
- 3:16Speaker 2: who is going to be down there?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah. And, you know, they're selling tickets if you want
- 3:20Speaker 1: to go down there. Even for the delegate, you got
- 3:22Speaker 1: to pay like $ 7, 000 for a ticket. It's crazy.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Yeah, this guy, this delegate said, we have a mandatory meeting,
- 3:30Speaker 2: breakfast meeting tomorrow. Geez, I haven't had a mandatory breakfast
- 3:34Speaker 2: meeting since I, you know, got out of prep school,
- 3:36Speaker 2: you know?
- 3:38Speaker 1: Hey, Howie Carr, I don't know why. I don't follow
- 3:41Speaker 1: this Lindsay Clancy stuff that closely. There's a lot of
- 3:46Speaker 1: murders all the time. What is it that gripped so
- 3:48Speaker 1: many people about this case?
- 3:51Speaker 2: I think it's live streaming. I've always been a proponent
- 3:55Speaker 2: of televising trials. I do cover a lot of stuff
- 4:01Speaker 2: in federal courts. It's very... You know, irritating not to
- 4:05Speaker 2: have that great video and for the radio audio. But,
- 4:09Speaker 2: you know, it's it seems like, you know, it's it's
- 4:12Speaker 2: it's getting out of control. I mean, like this this guy,
- 4:15Speaker 2: Kevin Reddington, he's he's he's an old old guy. But,
- 4:19Speaker 2: you know, he he just was he's just playing for
- 4:22Speaker 2: a clickbait. And, you know, just I mean, just insult.
- 4:25Speaker 2: He's insulting the jurors. He's insulting the judge. And the women,
- 4:31Speaker 2: it was nine women and three men, the women just
- 4:34Speaker 2: really liked him. They liked he was their grandfather or something.
- 4:41Speaker 2: And I just couldn't believe the judge didn't admonish him.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I mean, you don't just hit... Judges don't just hit
- 4:50Speaker 2: lawyers with contempt, but they say... you know, watch your language, Mr. Reddington, or,
- 4:55Speaker 2: you know, you know, you could be held in contempt
- 4:58Speaker 2: or show a little respect for the court, you know,
- 5:01Speaker 2: and he's just he's telling the guy that the judge
- 5:04Speaker 2: read the jury instructions. And so Reddington said, you didn't
- 5:08Speaker 2: do a good job. He said, I read the man,
- 5:11Speaker 2: the instructions in the manual. He said, but you didn't
- 5:14Speaker 2: read it. You didn't read it with enough authority. And
- 5:17Speaker 2: the judge said, What did you want, a brass band?
- 5:20Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know why the judge had to
- 5:21Speaker 2: take that crap from him. And it's just, it was
- 5:24Speaker 2: just outrageous. And then he goes out and he says,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I crushed, I crushed the DA. And he's got to negotiate,
- 5:32Speaker 2: you know, a plea bargain or something with this district attorney. And,
- 5:37Speaker 2: you know, why is he insulting him?
- 5:40Speaker 1: I don't get it.
- 5:41Speaker 2: And he also said, you know, another thing, you know,
- 5:43Speaker 2: I obviously followed this pretty closely, Mark, but he said,
- 5:47Speaker 2: you know, Lindsay Clancy is, is like a daughter to me. And,
- 5:52Speaker 2: you know, but doesn't that raise the question? Well, aren't
- 5:55Speaker 2: you angry then that your daughter killed your three grandchildren?
- 5:59Speaker 1: So, but you know, this case, you've covered it as
- 6:02Speaker 1: well as anybody. Should she get off? Shouldn't she be
- 6:04Speaker 1: in jail? What do you think?
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, this was, you know, they, the three
- 6:09Speaker 2: of the jurors weren't a good last night on the
- 6:11Speaker 2: NBC affiliate and, and, the, the key takeaway, which they didn't,
- 6:15Speaker 2: they didn't show until they actually ran it in prime time. Uh,
- 6:19Speaker 2: one of the jury, one of the, one of the
- 6:21Speaker 2: female jurors said that this male juror, the holdout, I
- 6:24Speaker 2: think he should be, you know, man of the year myself.
- 6:27Speaker 2: And so do a lot of people, including women. But
- 6:29Speaker 2: she said he just couldn't get over the fact that
- 6:32Speaker 2: she had murdered her three children.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:36Speaker 2: And, and that's a problem. How, you know, and I mean,
- 6:39Speaker 2: that's the thing Reddington was, was yelling about. He said,
- 6:42Speaker 2: he kept saying, He's not following the law. I mean, when,
- 6:46Speaker 2: when a jury gets a case, the case belongs to
- 6:49Speaker 2: the jury, right? I mean, you know, the, the OJ
- 6:54Speaker 2: Simpson case and gay jury engaged in jury nullification. There
- 6:58Speaker 2: are all kinds of juries up in the Bronx when
- 7:00Speaker 2: they used to have the death penalty, you know, theoretically
- 7:02Speaker 2: in New York state that engaged in jury nullification, but,
- 7:06Speaker 2: but nobody ever wanted to throw them off the jury.
- 7:08Speaker 2: It's just, that's the, that's the price you pay. I mean,
- 7:11Speaker 2: we've had a, We've had this system for 600 years
- 7:14Speaker 2: in Anglo-American jurisprudence. You have to have a unanimous verdict in,
- 7:19Speaker 2: you know, almost every single criminal case and certainly in
- 7:23Speaker 2: capital cases. And, you know, when he wants to throw
- 7:26Speaker 2: this guy off the jury because he won't agree with him,
- 7:29Speaker 2: I mean, how out of control are things getting?
- 7:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Hey, we had some questions of listeners about the husband,
- 7:36Speaker 1: Patrick Clancy. Apparently he got there first. He went in
- 7:38Speaker 1: the basement before the police.
- 7:40Speaker 2: What?
- 7:40Speaker 1: What's the deal with this husband?
- 7:43Speaker 2: Well, you know, no one has accused him other than,
- 7:48Speaker 2: you know, internet trolls and these crazy people on TikTok.
- 7:53Speaker 2: No one's accused him of being involved in it. And
- 7:55Speaker 2: she has admitted that she killed them. But they're just
- 8:02Speaker 2: saying that, you know, oh, he was out. But, you know,
- 8:05Speaker 2: the thing is, and we don't know. and I, and
- 8:08Speaker 2: actually he's on at least one surveillance camera. He went
- 8:11Speaker 2: to the drug store, the CVS to pick up some
- 8:14Speaker 2: prescription medication. He also went and picked up some food.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I don't know if he's on a, on the camera,
- 8:20Speaker 2: the surveillance camera at the restaurant, but he's on at CVS.
- 8:24Speaker 2: And so, you know, people call in and I say, wait,
- 8:26Speaker 2: you think he, you think Patrick Clancy killed him? What
- 8:30Speaker 2: about the, what about the surveillance camera and the timestamps on? Oh, he, he, he,
- 8:36Speaker 2: you know, He counterfeited that. What? I mean, listen, we're
- 8:41Speaker 2: back to Joy Reid country, you know? I mean, you know,
- 8:44Speaker 2: the time travelers hacking into her Twitter accounts. I mean,
- 8:51Speaker 2: they really lost it here.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Well, so what's going to happen? They'll make a plea deal,
- 8:57Speaker 1: you think?
- 8:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it's got to be that. I mean, I don't.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I don't think Tim Cruz is a pretty good district attorney.
- 9:06Speaker 2: He's the only Republican district attorney in Massachusetts. And I
- 9:10Speaker 2: don't think he really he wants to do this. But
- 9:12Speaker 2: what's he supposed to what was he supposed to do
- 9:14Speaker 2: if he hadn't if he hadn't, you know, put her
- 9:18Speaker 2: on trial? He would have been, you know, criticized by everybody.
- 9:22Speaker 2: And then he puts her on trial and they're making
- 9:24Speaker 2: her out like she's some kind of a feminist hero.
- 9:27Speaker 2: I think they'll try to try to work out some
- 9:29Speaker 2: kind of deal. It's kind of a good career move
- 9:34Speaker 2: here for Kevin Reddington at the end. He was involved
- 9:37Speaker 2: with some fringe players in the Karen Reid case, some of.
- 9:41Speaker 1: The black hats.
- 9:46Speaker 2: He loses a lot of cases, too, over the years.
- 9:49Speaker 2: But this is a nice way to cap his career.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I think he'd like to keep going here. I mean,
- 9:54Speaker 2: how absurd was it that he you know, asked President
- 9:57Speaker 2: Trump to partner, knowing that President Trump couldn't partner? And
- 10:01Speaker 2: then he's saying it was, you know, he's basically comes
- 10:03Speaker 2: back to Boston and says, well, this was a crafty move.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I'm going to try to get Trump to intervene with
- 10:08Speaker 2: his fellow Republican. I mean, can you imagine under any circumstances?
- 10:12Speaker 2: possible circumstances that Trump would make a call to the
- 10:15Speaker 2: district attorney and say, can you drop the charges against
- 10:18Speaker 2: this woman who murdered admits murdering three of her kids?
- 10:23Speaker 2: I mean, talk about delusional that they think that's ever
- 10:26Speaker 2: going to happen. Yeah.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Well, how we car, I knew you'd be the guy
- 10:29Speaker 1: to ask great stuff. And, uh, Hey, the new book is, uh,
