- 0:00Speaker 1: This is The Edge by Micah Parsons, and I want
- 0:02Speaker 1: to say welcome back to The Edge, presented by Wayfair.
- 0:06Speaker 1: I'm so excited to be back with you guys. I
- 0:08Speaker 1: know last year didn't go as planned. A lot of
- 0:11Speaker 1: life and life-changing situations happened. Y'all see the new set.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Y'all see the new... Y'all see the new everything. New colors,
- 0:21Speaker 1: new me. I feel like I'm back to myself, and
- 0:24Speaker 1: I'm glad to be with you guys. And in that case,
- 0:26Speaker 1: we added someone very special, the QB Guru. The guy
- 0:31Speaker 1: that makes X a hell storm sometimes. And that's Quincy Avery.
- 0:36Speaker 2: What up, fam? How you living? You know what? I'm blessed, bro.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I'm blessed, bro.
- 0:40Speaker 1: We back on the edge. It's time to talk ball,
- 0:43Speaker 1: talk life. And let's bring some inspiration back to football.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Let's see some knowledge in here, man. We got to
- 0:48Speaker 1: drop it.
- 0:49Speaker 3: We about to do that for the people.
- 0:51Speaker 1: We're going to get into some spicy table talk real quick.
- 0:54Speaker 1: It was the Jaden Daniels cease and desist. I saw it.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I think the world saw it. The world has been
- 1:01Speaker 1: going crazy on X talking about stay away from number five.
- 1:06Speaker 3: They've been giving these folks hell. How you felt about it, though?
- 1:09Speaker 3: What was you thinking when you saw Jaden Daniels and
- 1:12Speaker 3: the fans in the cease and desist?
- 1:14Speaker 1: You know, at first, I didn't think it was real.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I just thought it was like somebody playing around. But,
- 1:20Speaker 1: you know, I know Jaden. It probably came from a
- 1:23Speaker 1: good place in his eyes. But, you know, I think
- 1:27Speaker 1: us as football people, like, I just think, like, when
- 1:31Speaker 1: we talk about, like, college, like, it's different, you know,
- 1:37Speaker 1: from the NFL. Like, when you're a professional, like, it's like,
- 1:41Speaker 1: you know, when you get your jersey or a number
- 1:43Speaker 1: of retired professionals because you had this long, great, notorious career,
- 1:47Speaker 1: you're like, wow. Like, I think it hits different versus
- 1:50Speaker 1: college where it's like college is a long-lasting legacy of
- 1:55Speaker 1: just great players forever coming through a program.
- 1:58Speaker 2: So, like.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Being part of Stick City number 11 at Penn State
- 2:03Speaker 1: is like similar to number seven at LSU. And it
- 2:07Speaker 1: really shouldn't matter like what number it is because like
- 2:11Speaker 1: you just want the greatness that comes along with the number.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Like I want to be a part of that. I
- 2:16Speaker 1: feel like that's what college is. It's like I'm joining
- 2:19Speaker 1: a program so I can become great and I want
- 2:21Speaker 1: to leave a legacy that others follow suit on. So
- 2:24Speaker 1: I think like it's an inspiration thing where like guys,
- 2:26Speaker 1: but I want to wear number 11.
- 2:28Speaker 2: And go to Penn State.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I want to go to Penn State because Micah Parsons
- 2:31Speaker 1: has been there. Abdul Carter went there. Like LeVar Arrington,
- 2:34Speaker 1: Navarro Bowman, like Brandon Bell. It's like this rich tradition
- 2:38Speaker 1: of like linebacker rushers that's like gone to this school.
- 2:41Speaker 1: and establish ourselves enough to have these great, good NFL
- 2:44Speaker 1: careers get drafted. I think that's what college is about.
- 2:47Speaker 3: So not only did you want to go to Penn
- 2:49Speaker 3: State so you could wear number 11, but you wanted
- 2:51Speaker 3: to look out after guys who are wearing that same number?
- 2:53Speaker 3: Is that what you were thinking?
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yeah, me and Abdul are still hand in hand.
- 2:57Speaker 1: When I go out to LA, me and LeVar lets
- 3:00Speaker 1: me crash on his couch. We be eating pizza together.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I feel like it's like a brotherhood. It's like a
- 3:06Speaker 1: tandem within the players who wear the number. And you're grateful.
- 3:09Speaker 1: His son that's wearing number 11 now, that's like my
- 3:12Speaker 1: little brother.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I want him.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I'm helping that he turns into the player he wants
- 3:16Speaker 1: to be. And I don't think there's no such thing
- 3:19Speaker 1: as earning a number because when I was a freshman,
- 3:21Speaker 1: nobody said, Mikey, besides being a five-star recruit and what
- 3:24Speaker 1: I did in high school, I didn't do anything to
- 3:25Speaker 1: deserve number 11. It was like LaVar was like, yo,
- 3:29Speaker 1: give him number 11.
- 3:30Speaker 2: He needs to be in that 11. You know what
- 3:31Speaker 2: I'm saying?
- 3:32Speaker 3: So is Jaden missing out on that aspect?
- 3:34Speaker 1: No.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Rather than him looking at it as a negative, you
- 3:36Speaker 3: think he could have been looking at it like, yo,
- 3:38Speaker 3: I want you to wear number five so you can
- 3:39Speaker 3: show up and show out on my number.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Of course.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I think that's what college should be more about. Like,
- 3:45Speaker 1: think about why we go back to our colleges. Because
- 3:48Speaker 1: how much we loved it there.
- 3:49Speaker 2: How much we.
- 3:50Speaker 1: But I think because, like, he's in a similar where, like,
- 3:53Speaker 1: you know, he came on a fifth-year senior Heisman.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Like, it's different.
- 3:58Speaker 3: LSU probably didn't mean the same thing to him that
- 4:01Speaker 3: Penn State meant to you when you made that decision.
- 4:02Speaker 2: No, of course not. And I think, like.
- 4:05Speaker 1: when it comes to that, like, college coaches switch around
- 4:09Speaker 1: so much, there is no loyalty in that. Like, and
- 4:12Speaker 1: it's not their fault. Like, coaches just get fired because
- 4:14Speaker 1: it's bad seasons, whatever. But, like, there is no loyalty
- 4:18Speaker 1: in college. Like, expecting some type of loyalty is, like, delusional.
- 4:24Speaker 1: And that's one of the reasons he got the number
- 4:26Speaker 1: for real. Lane Kiffin there, hey, this dude wants number five.
- 4:29Speaker 1: It's more important to him to have him happy in
- 4:32Speaker 1: the program. So, I think It kind of makes sense
- 4:35Speaker 1: in terms of what you're saying. But there's folks out
- 4:37Speaker 1: here in the sports world giving them hell. You checked
- 4:40Speaker 1: out the graphics they've been making on Twitter?
- 4:42Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Let's pull up the Mets joint. Stop their fool out
- 4:47Speaker 3: of respect for Jaden Daniels.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Like, that's what I'm saying. Like, the internet has no control. Like,
- 4:54Speaker 1: you giving them unlimited ammo. Like, I think I said, like,
- 4:58Speaker 1: we might change our name from Five Guys out.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Of respect for Jalen. Like, it'd be stuff like that. Like,
- 5:02Speaker 2: come on, bro.
- 5:04Speaker 3: The Guardians really playing with his name.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Like, unlimited sports teams, like, we just can't give people ammo. Like,
- 5:12Speaker 1: we got to remember what this is. This is a
- 5:15Speaker 1: child's game.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Like, look at this. The racetrack.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Hey, we just going to take out Five, man. We
- 5:22Speaker 3: going to give you this.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Bro.
- 5:25Speaker 1: And, like, not to compare, bro. Joe Burrow had the greatest,
- 5:31Speaker 1: almost like a Reggie Bush year. One of those things,
- 5:33Speaker 1: you just can't say anything.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Heisman, National Championship, he did all that. But the thing,
- 5:39Speaker 3: here's my thought. I don't know what the conversation Jaden
- 5:41Speaker 3: had with LSU after his time there. If they told
- 5:45Speaker 3: him this, they told him that. But you can't control
- 5:48Speaker 3: how people respond to disrespect. So if you feel disrespected,
- 5:51Speaker 3: I'm not going to say nothing about how you handle it.
- 5:53Speaker 3: But he just has to be ready for everything that
- 5:54Speaker 3: comes with it.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And you see.
- 5:56Speaker 3: You see how folks is treating him now, playing with
- 5:58Speaker 3: his name.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I know, bro.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I got nothing but love and respect for Jaden Daniels. But,
- 6:02Speaker 1: you know, however you felt it was better to handle
- 6:04Speaker 1: the situation, you know, that's on him. And I don't
- 6:09Speaker 1: really get into those type of situations. But I do
- 6:11Speaker 1: think that us as players, we got to kind of
- 6:15Speaker 1: put our ego aside sometimes and say like, hey, like this,
- 6:19Speaker 1: you know, this. Like I always look at it like
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's like, you know, I'm a starting defensive end for
- 6:25Speaker 1: the Green Bay Packers, and the Packers draft another defensive
- 6:28Speaker 1: end in the first round. Hey, we don't want to
- 6:30Speaker 1: keep paying Mike all this money. Like, it's not a
- 6:32Speaker 1: disrespect thing. It's just the business factor. We're in an
- 6:36Speaker 1: NIL era, a completely different era than, you know, we
- 6:39Speaker 1: played in. So, are you telling me this kid, a
- 6:42Speaker 1: five-star recruit, won number five and a million dollars? You're
- 6:46Speaker 1: getting what you need so we could go win championships.
- 6:49Speaker 3: They trying to win games just like anybody else.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Exactly, bro. Sometimes we just got to– Be quiet and
- 6:55Speaker 2: play ball. That's it.
- 6:57Speaker 3: But let's take it to the NFL.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Top five defenses coming into the NFL, like, right now.
- 7:03Speaker 1: You know, I think, you know, it's hard to say
- 7:06Speaker 1: top five defenses because, like, the thing about the NFL is,
- 7:11Speaker 1: and really, not even just the NFL, all sports, you
- 7:14Speaker 1: got to do it again.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Every time.
- 7:16Speaker 1: So, like, the names on paper always don't be the
- 7:18Speaker 1: same names on paper because anyone can have a down year. So,
- 7:23Speaker 1: we got to really, like, Think about how this can look.
- 7:27Speaker 1: And the film is out.
- 7:29Speaker 2: That's what people don't realize.
- 7:32Speaker 1: People always say the sophomore year is the hardest year
- 7:34Speaker 1: because the film is out.
- 7:36Speaker 2: We know what you're running.
- 7:37Speaker 1: We know what your best guys want to get into. Now,
- 7:40Speaker 1: can you still run that same quality defense?
- 7:43Speaker 2: 100%.
- 7:43Speaker 3: And a lot of teams are going to make some
- 7:46Speaker 3: changes with that. We got some big additions this offseason.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Von Miller to the Cowboys. Your boy Diggs, he just
- 7:53Speaker 3: signed with the Seattle Seahawks, Super Bowl champions. Miles Garrett
- 7:58Speaker 3: is probably the biggest move in my eyes. He's going
- 8:01Speaker 3: to the Rams. A lot of buzz with that. And
- 8:04Speaker 3: they also got another piece who I think might be
- 8:06Speaker 3: hitting soon, Aaron Darnold coming back. I don't know what
- 8:09Speaker 3: he's going to be like after the long layoff. And
- 8:12Speaker 3: the Giants, when defense again in the first round, they
- 8:15Speaker 3: got a bunch of first-rounders on that defense. Those are
- 8:19Speaker 3: teams– that really, really made some improvements. But what does
- 8:24Speaker 3: this offseason say to you about the importance of defense
- 8:27Speaker 3: in the NFL? I think it's been this way, and
- 8:31Speaker 3: I think people hate to admit it, and they kind
- 8:35Speaker 3: of just want to keep throwing the MVP on quarterbacks
- 8:38Speaker 3: all the time.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Oh, we're winning because of the quarterback. That's not true.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Seattle Seahawks won a championship because of their defense.
- 8:46Speaker 1: See, that's about 95% true. What's the other 5%? Sam
- 8:52Speaker 1: Donald played really good football at the same time.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Sam Donald played really safe football.
- 8:55Speaker 2: He was solid.
- 8:56Speaker 1: They play safe football, but a lot of things have
- 8:59Speaker 1: to go in place for you to play safe football,
- 9:01Speaker 1: and that comes with having.
- 9:02Speaker 2: A great defense.
- 9:03Speaker 1: And even if we go way back in the day,
- 9:05Speaker 1: like we go back to the 90s, early 2000s, 2010 decade,
- 9:12Speaker 1: the teams that won Super Bowls had the best defense.
- 9:15Speaker 2: It was lockdown. It was lockdown.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Like, I hate that we just throw the MVP at
- 9:19Speaker 1: quarterbacks and quarterbacks is the most valuable. Because don't get
- 9:23Speaker 1: me wrong. Sometimes your quarterback, your defense is going to
- 9:26Speaker 1: have a bad game. And your quarterback has to step
- 9:29Speaker 1: up in the moments to make the throws, get the
- 9:31Speaker 1: points where your defense can't hold a team to 21.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Especially in today's hands-on offensive league they want to make
- 9:38Speaker 1: it offensive it's crazy the vp and you know roger
- 9:42Speaker 1: goodell in the videos they're like this is an offensive
- 9:45Speaker 1: league people want to see points they tell you this
- 9:47Speaker 1: in the intro to the camp meetings like they want
- 9:51Speaker 1: to see points but if you can still limit those
- 9:54Speaker 1: points and limit the penalties the holdings the roughing the
- 9:57Speaker 1: passers the defensive players, all those things that they added
- 10:00Speaker 1: to the game to protect offensive players so they can
- 10:03Speaker 1: see points, that is who's winning football games.
- 10:06Speaker 2: And people hate to admit it.
- 10:07Speaker 3: And with that being said, winning football games, I'm going
- 10:11Speaker 3: to guess that these top five defenses that you're about
- 10:13Speaker 3: to choose are going to win some football games.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Yes.
- 10:17Speaker 3: So let me start with five. Who you got?
- 10:22Speaker 1: At number five, I'm going to take the Los Angeles Rams.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Is that because of Miles Garrett? That was strictly because
- 10:29Speaker 1: of the Miles Garrett addition, and they added McDuffie.
- 10:32Speaker 3: McDuffie's huge. I don't think people understand how talented he is.
- 10:36Speaker 1: McDuffie, with a pass rush, is one of the best
- 10:38Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the league. You've seen it when they had
- 10:41Speaker 1: a healthy pass rush back when they won Super Bowls
- 10:43Speaker 1: with Holmes. I mean, last year they were basing his
- 10:46Speaker 1: production off of, They had very lack of success rushing
- 10:51Speaker 1: the quarterback last year, Kansas City. You cannot win football
- 10:55Speaker 1: games without rushing the quarterback.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Doing what you do.
- 10:57Speaker 3: And they got the guy.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Yeah, they got the guy. They got the guy.
- 11:00Speaker 1: They got the guy that's going to get the ball
- 11:02Speaker 1: out in 2.7 seconds.
- 11:04Speaker 2: You got to. Or double team, chip, whatever, but he's
- 11:06Speaker 2: still coming. They got the guy.
- 11:08Speaker 1: And if they add the other guy, the guy that
- 11:10Speaker 1: we all know, the, what, nine-time first-team All-Pro?
- 11:13Speaker 2: Hello. Holy crap. I'm going to go with five.
- 11:16Speaker 3: So who we got with four?
- 11:18Speaker 1: And number four, man, I'm going.
- 11:23Speaker 2: To go with the New England Patriots.
- 11:25Speaker 3: What about the New England Patriots' fourth best defense in
- 11:29Speaker 3: the NFL?
- 11:29Speaker 1: They went to the Super Bowl, and they got to
- 11:32Speaker 1: the Super Bowl off a great defense. Going through that run,
- 11:35Speaker 1: even though they didn't have Bo Nix, even though they
- 11:40Speaker 1: could say the Texans' offense was bad, they held their
- 11:45Speaker 1: end of the bargain to get to the Super Bowl.
- 11:47Speaker 3: You got the weather game in Denver, right, against Jared Stidham,
- 11:51Speaker 3: who I love Stidham. And then Houston Tech. That was
- 11:54Speaker 3: probably the worst game CJ's played. You know, it probably
- 11:59Speaker 3: happens at your position, too. Like, when one thing goes bad,
- 12:01Speaker 3: it kind of starts to snowball. You start trying to
- 12:03Speaker 3: make plays. They just got in one of those situations.
- 12:05Speaker 3: I don't think that will ever happen again for CJ.
- 12:08Speaker 3: I don't see this. They don't have a dominant. Like,
- 12:10Speaker 3: you were talking about dominant pass rush. I don't see
- 12:12Speaker 3: that from the New England Patriots.
- 12:13Speaker 1: But their interior, which we've seen guys, they're saying, we
- 12:16Speaker 1: don't need the rushers. We're going to do it interiorly.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Christian Balmore, Milton Williams, guys that they paid and they
- 12:23Speaker 1: got in that program that can create the pressure. That
- 12:26Speaker 1: interior pressure. People are like, if we can't get a
- 12:29Speaker 1: top-edge guy, we're going to double up interior. And we've
- 12:31Speaker 1: been seeing that. The Dallas Cowboys did it. You know,
- 12:33Speaker 1: Kenny Clark, Quentin Williams, Keenan. Tennessee Titans did it. They said,
- 12:38Speaker 1: we can't get a dominant edge rusher. They went and
- 12:40Speaker 1: got John Franklin Myers. We're seeing them more in the
- 12:42Speaker 1: National Football League where if we can't get that rusher,
- 12:44Speaker 1: we're going interior.
- 12:46Speaker 2: And they got the DBs to do it.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Yeah, Gonzalez is a fool. I think he's one of
- 12:50Speaker 3: them ones.
- 12:51Speaker 2: He is. He is. He's the top three corner.
- 12:53Speaker 1: So when you add their factors and just how they
- 12:56Speaker 1: played down that stretch, you kind of say, you know, regardless,
- 13:01Speaker 1: they have to be in the top five. Just because
- 13:03Speaker 1: even though the weather game, whatever, CJ's bad game, but
- 13:08Speaker 1: they still did their end of the bargain. And they
- 13:11Speaker 1: won three games. They went 15-3 last year.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:15Speaker 1: So you're not doing that if you don't have a
- 13:17Speaker 1: great defense.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Okay, who we got at three? At number three, I'm
- 13:21Speaker 2: going to go with my Green Bay Packers. Oh, man. Oh, man.
- 13:27Speaker 3: That's saying a lot.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:28Speaker 3: What about that? What about your team right now since
- 13:32Speaker 3: top three defense in the NFL?
- 13:34Speaker 2: I'm going to say.
- 13:35Speaker 1: We are going to be a pressure unit, and we
- 13:38Speaker 1: have so many players that people don't even know about
- 13:42Speaker 1: that they're going to know about. I'm going to say
- 13:43Speaker 1: we have a top three, top two, three, maybe one
- 13:48Speaker 1: safety unit.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Oh, McKinney a fool.
- 13:50Speaker 2: And Evan Williams. People sleep on Evan. I think Evan
- 13:53Speaker 2: Williams is going to be a Pro Bowl player this year.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Who are we not thinking about on this Green Bay
- 13:57Speaker 3: Packers defense right now who folks are going to know
- 13:59Speaker 3: their name at the end of the season?
- 14:01Speaker 2: Yo, we're not thinking about Cisse, the guy we just drafted. Okay. Crazy.
- 14:05Speaker 2: He's a baller. He's a big baller.
- 14:08Speaker 1: They're not talking about Lucas Van Ness or Baron Sorrell.
- 14:11Speaker 1: They're not talking about the fact that we added Javon
- 14:14Speaker 1: Hargrave and another young and heavy D is going to
- 14:17Speaker 1: be playing Devontae White. He got hurt last year. He
- 14:19Speaker 1: was hurt most of the year last year. Still had, what,
- 14:22Speaker 1: five sacks? And we got a young kid, Warren Brinson.
- 14:27Speaker 3: I think what's going to matter for the Green Bay
- 14:30Speaker 3: Packers defense is your offense. How many points is your
- 14:33Speaker 3: offense going to be able to score to put teams
- 14:35Speaker 3: in position where they've got to pass and where you
- 14:38Speaker 3: can take over the game?
- 14:39Speaker 1: And I think that's even going to be even more
- 14:41Speaker 1: special because our offense is looking crazy. Jordan Love, and
- 14:45Speaker 1: we're going to get into Jordan Love, but how he's
- 14:49Speaker 1: been performing, it's like one thing to watch on game
- 14:53Speaker 1: day or you watching that guy and I'm like, he's dying.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Jordan Love has been looking like the most ridiculous quarterback
- 15:01Speaker 1: in the NFL Every practice.
- 15:04Speaker 3: I know we got to talk about Jordan later, so
- 15:05Speaker 3: I ain't going to get into Jordan, but I agree.
- 15:09Speaker 2: He's just ridiculous, bro. And he does it effortlessly.
- 15:13Speaker 1: It's so amazing to watch him on the floor, and
- 15:16Speaker 1: I just can't wait to watch them perform.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I just can't wait.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Let's get into number two. Who you got second best defense?
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yep. And number two, I'm going to have to go
- 15:27Speaker 2: with the Denver Broncos.
- 15:29Speaker 3: That's a solid group.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 1: You just can't deny them. The back end is elite.
- 15:36Speaker 1: You know, Hufunga, Sertain, Moss. I mean, you know, they're
- 15:41Speaker 1: just a solid group. Then the front, it's just like
- 15:44Speaker 1: you don't miss no one. You know, Roach, Zach Allen,
- 15:49Speaker 1: Nick Bonito, Jonathan Cooper. And they just play so well together. Like,
- 15:54Speaker 1: they're a united front. And even though they lost in
- 15:56Speaker 1: the playoffs, you're like, this team– Should have and could
- 15:59Speaker 1: have been in the Super Bowl if Bo Nix was healthy.
- 16:01Speaker 3: The thing about them that makes them so difficult is
- 16:03Speaker 3: they can play a lot of too high and stop
- 16:05Speaker 3: the run. Like, they just take away a lot of
- 16:07Speaker 3: things from you without having to bring another safety in
- 16:09Speaker 3: the box. They're just able to– structurally, they make it really,
- 16:12Speaker 3: really difficult on offense.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And then, obviously, number one, you can't– there's literally nothing
- 16:19Speaker 1: you can do is the Houston Texans defense.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Houston Texans, amazing defense. We're going to get into Houston Texans.
- 16:28Speaker 3: I got to ask you about.
- 16:29Speaker 2: A team you miss. Who did I miss?
- 16:31Speaker 3: The Seattle Seahawks. The Seattle Seahawks might be the best
- 16:36Speaker 3: defense in the NFL. They may be the best defense
- 16:39Speaker 3: in the NFL. The things that they do to you,
- 16:41Speaker 3: the pressures that they create, the best player on that defense, well,
- 16:45Speaker 3: one of the best players on that defense, Nick, coming
- 16:49Speaker 3: out on the nickel. He can play the pass. He
- 16:52Speaker 3: can play the run. He's damn near the most impressive
- 16:55Speaker 3: player on the field every time he's out there.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yo, you so right. You so right. Oh, my God.
- 17:04Speaker 2: I definitely did miss Seattle. Somebody has to go.
- 17:08Speaker 3: I think you got to go there, too. And I
- 17:10Speaker 3: think everybody else gets pushed up a notch.
- 17:13Speaker 2: You're not wrong. You're not wrong. I can't even lie.
- 17:16Speaker 2: You're not wrong. I definitely did forget about Seattle. I
- 17:20Speaker 2: wouldn't put them two, though. Okay. I'd rather bump them
- 17:23Speaker 2: to four and throw the– Patriots. Patriots to five?
- 17:28Speaker 3: All right, we'll look at that.
- 17:29Speaker 2: No, Patriots to six. Patriots to six.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Yeah. Rams to five.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:33Speaker 3: All right, but tell me what makes this Texas defense
- 17:36Speaker 3: so difficult to play against.
- 17:37Speaker 1: You can't play max protection the whole time because they
- 17:40Speaker 1: get pressure interiorly with Mike Hall, and they had the
- 17:45Speaker 1: young cat that was rushing really good. And then on
- 17:48Speaker 1: the edges, you have two top five rushers, Will Anderson
- 17:51Speaker 1: and Daniel Hunter. Daniil Hunter doesn't get enough credit. I mean,
- 17:55Speaker 1: we all talk about Will Anderson because he is a
- 17:57Speaker 1: hell raiser, but Daniil Hunter is impressive. Daniil Hunter to
- 18:01Speaker 1: me is literally the most underrated rusher of our generation.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I don't know why. Oof. I don't know why.
- 18:09Speaker 1: He is literally like, if you watch his past, he
- 18:13Speaker 1: probably has the most toolbox out of any of us,
- 18:16Speaker 1: like from the edge position.
- 18:18Speaker 3: But when you say that, right? Because I don't know D.N.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Like that. Yeah.
- 18:22Speaker 3: What does that look like to you? Like, what is
- 18:23Speaker 3: he doing?
- 18:24Speaker 2: He can do anything. He could beat you with speed.
- 18:28Speaker 2: He could beat you with power. He could beat you
- 18:30Speaker 2: with spins.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Bro, I seen him do a chop, chop, cross, spin
- 18:36Speaker 1: move on Panay Suwile, bro.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Chop, cross, and then he spun back off.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Yes.
- 18:41Speaker 1: He does unusual behaviors. Like, it don't matter who he
- 18:45Speaker 1: goes against. Like, it's hard to get his number, bro.
- 18:49Speaker 1: And it's like, I'll never forget, I think Houston came
- 18:52Speaker 1: to play Dallas like three years ago, two years before last,
- 18:57Speaker 1: and he had a quiet first half. Second half, when
- 19:01Speaker 1: we had to throw that ball, sack, sack, sack. He
- 19:05Speaker 1: had three sacks in the second half. He was just
- 19:07Speaker 1: so elite to me, and I think that's why you
- 19:10Speaker 1: see Will's progression since he's gotten there, gotten so much
- 19:15Speaker 1: better and higher because He actually had that veteran. People
- 19:18Speaker 1: miss out on so much veteran presence in the National
- 19:21Speaker 1: Football League. Like, it's not even funny. Like, people are like, oh,
- 19:25Speaker 1: he's just not a good player. No, he just didn't
- 19:27Speaker 1: have good bets around him to help him develop. Like,
- 19:30Speaker 1: I think about my career. Like, who would I, who would, like,
- 19:33Speaker 1: and I see, like, guys making fun of, like, Sonny
- 19:36Speaker 1: Stiles because of preseason games. And they make fun of
- 19:40Speaker 1: these other young quarterbacks or young corners. And I think
- 19:44Speaker 1: about my development, like, Who is Micah Parsons without working
- 19:47Speaker 1: with Tyron Smith after practice? Or getting a chance to
- 19:51Speaker 1: go one-on-one with Zach Martin in practice? Or going against C.D. Cooper,
- 19:55Speaker 1: I mean, C.D. Lamb, Amari Cooper, Ezekiel Elliott, like, Dak Prescott, like,
- 20:00Speaker 1: going against them so early in my career, Leo Collins,
- 20:03Speaker 1: Leo Collins telling me, like, you know, Von Miller used
- 20:05Speaker 1: to do this, go watch some Von tape, and then,
- 20:08Speaker 1: you know, come back and we'll work on that, like, like,
- 20:10Speaker 1: you know, Demarcus Lawrence, even Demarcus Ware, like, who are
- 20:14Speaker 1: we without some of that, like, some people can do
- 20:17Speaker 1: it off the strength, and that's kind of what makes
- 20:18Speaker 1: them great, like, but not everyone's Deion Sanders.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Yep.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Like, and that's kind of, like, the expectation, like, we
- 20:23Speaker 1: put onto these people, and you even think about, you know,
- 20:27Speaker 1: and we could dive into the, like, go straight into
- 20:28Speaker 1: the QB situation with this, is, like, you think about
- 20:33Speaker 1: how many quarterbacks didn't have to come in and be
- 20:36Speaker 1: starters right away, and they became great, like, Tom Brady
- 20:41Speaker 1: wasn't a starter right away.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Mahomes wasn't a starter right away.
- 20:44Speaker 2: He wasn't.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Like, Jordan Love wasn't a starter right away. Like, people say, like,
- 20:48Speaker 1: why aren't these guys coming in right away? Lack of development. Like,
- 20:53Speaker 1: you know, Jaden Daniels, when he came in, even C.J.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Stroud.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Like, you see them spark the league. And like I said,
- 21:01Speaker 1: once the film is out and we know what you
- 21:03Speaker 1: want to do and get to, that's when it's so
- 21:07Speaker 1: much easier to game plan.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Yep.
- 21:09Speaker 1: And then you miss out on that development aspect. I
- 21:16Speaker 1: remember we were playing one young quarterback, and I won't
- 21:19Speaker 1: say no names. And it was like, he doesn't want
- 21:22Speaker 1: to throw it to the field. So we shifted coverages
- 21:26Speaker 1: to the boundary to take away his first reads almost
- 21:28Speaker 1: every time.
- 21:29Speaker 2: And he had a long day, a long day.
- 21:32Speaker 1: And, like, you know, this guy, you know, he was
- 21:34Speaker 1: a starting quarterback in national football, but he was scared
- 21:36Speaker 1: to make the field. He didn't have enough throw power.
- 21:38Speaker 1: He did not want to go a long way across
- 21:39Speaker 1: the field. He just wanted to keep everything short and
- 21:41Speaker 1: to the boundary. Like, people don't realize, like, their tendencies. And, yeah,
- 21:46Speaker 1: they could.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Say QB develop, like, QB coaches.
- 21:49Speaker 1: And stuff, but there's no coaching like learning from someone
- 21:52Speaker 1: who has done it before.
- 21:53Speaker 2: 100%.
- 21:55Speaker 1: And I think that's what kind of makes, like, football
- 21:58Speaker 1: is losing its touch and With reality, like, oh, we're
- 22:01Speaker 1: going to have this first-round pick, and he's going to
- 22:03Speaker 1: change our organization.
- 22:05Speaker 2: No, that's not true. And then we give up the
- 22:07Speaker 2: grace period. Like, usually they have, like, a couple-year grace period. Nah.
- 22:10Speaker 2: But now it's like, if you don't come help right away,
- 22:13Speaker 2: we need to get rid of this guy. J.J.
- 22:15Speaker 3: McCarthy, prime example.
- 22:17Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 22:19Speaker 1: Like, Kirk Cousins and Sam Donald, were they together? Nah,
- 22:22Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins was down.
- 22:24Speaker 2: He left.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it was Sam and J.J. J.J.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Got hurt.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Sam becomes a starter.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah. That year.
- 22:30Speaker 1: But where did Sam learn? He learned under Shanahan. He
- 22:32Speaker 1: was with Shanahan and Brock Purdy, and he actually got
- 22:34Speaker 1: live game reps. JJ was hurt, and he got thrown
- 22:37Speaker 1: in the fire his second year in the league and said, hey,
- 22:40Speaker 1: you need to go keep up with this organization plan.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Yeah, wasn't ready. That's crazy.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Wasn't ready.
- 22:46Speaker 1: With no vet presence besides Carson Wentz. And then he
- 22:50Speaker 1: gets hurt, and he's out the building.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Yeah, like, what?
- 22:53Speaker 3: Yeah, we on a quarterback topic. We going to talk
- 22:56Speaker 3: about your man we was talking about a little bit earlier,
- 22:58Speaker 3: Jordan Love. Ranked 72nd on the NFL top players list.
- 23:04Speaker 3: This is what you said about him. 71 players in
- 23:06Speaker 3: the NFL aren't better than Jordan Love. How do you
- 23:08Speaker 3: feel about Jordan?
- 23:09Speaker 1: I think Jordan is going to be a top five
- 23:12Speaker 1: quarterback this year. And I think he's going to show
- 23:15Speaker 1: the world how great he really can be. And you
- 23:19Speaker 1: got to shout out to Matt LaFleur and Goody for
- 23:21Speaker 1: seeing it before anyone else.
- 23:23Speaker 3: You said top five. I'm going top three, top two.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Jordan Love.
- 23:28Speaker 2: I'm not mad at that.
- 23:29Speaker 3: When we talk about Jordan Love, he gets knocked for
- 23:32Speaker 3: some crazy things. He experienced a lot of drops last year,
- 23:35Speaker 3: but second in the league in EPA, right? Only behind
- 23:38Speaker 3: Drake May, but his fourth quarters were so much better
- 23:40Speaker 3: than Drake's. He's the best deep ball thrower that the
- 23:44Speaker 3: NFL has right now. He's not a tremendous athlete, but
- 23:47Speaker 3: he moves well in the pocket. He's super accurate underneath.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Every time he steps on the field in a situation
- 23:53Speaker 3: where y'all need to win games, he plays at a very,
- 23:55Speaker 3: very high level. And then when you talk to him
- 23:57Speaker 3: about the game, he sees it so well. He understands
- 24:00Speaker 3: everything that's going on, understands what defenses are trying to do,
- 24:03Speaker 3: how they're bringing rotations, how they're bringing pressures. And he
- 24:06Speaker 3: has a plan every time he steps in line of scrimmage.
- 24:08Speaker 3: And he's one of the best quarterbacks against the Blitz. Oh,
- 24:11Speaker 3: you can't Blitz him. You Blitz him, it's a problem.
- 24:14Speaker 3: And seeing him now, I remember his first start for
- 24:17Speaker 3: the Green Bay Packers. And LaFleur, you can tell, you
- 24:20Speaker 3: didn't trust him yet, right? When they brought pressure, he
- 24:22Speaker 3: was just throwing goal balls. No, now- You bring pressure,
- 24:25Speaker 3: he's throwing it right where you came from, and they're
- 24:27Speaker 3: getting a gashing play.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Yo, Q, tell me, give me all some guys that
- 24:33Speaker 1: are higher ranked than Jordan Love.
- 24:36Speaker 3: I'm going to start with Trevor Lawrence. He's 62.
- 24:37Speaker 1: And see, I would, like, and this is the thing
- 24:41Speaker 1: that bothers me is, like, I think Jordan Love has
- 24:44Speaker 1: just as many wins as Trevor Lawrence if everyone stays healthy.
- 24:48Speaker 2: 100%. Like, Trevor Lawrence, and, like, this is, like.
- 24:52Speaker 1: What are we rating this off of? Like, do we
- 24:56Speaker 1: rank players? Like, I'm looking at, like, dominant factors. Like,
- 25:01Speaker 1: when we go through our top 100 as players, right,
- 25:04Speaker 1: and I think fans, they be like, oh, well, so-and-so
- 25:06Speaker 1: was an all-pro or so-and-pro wasn't an all-pro or, like,
- 25:11Speaker 1: so-and-so missed five games. That's not what we're talking about.
- 25:16Speaker 1: We're talking about when I'm playing you on the field, like, dude,
- 25:20Speaker 1: I'm like, damn, like, we're about to face– We're about
- 25:23Speaker 1: to face B. John Robinson this week.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:26Speaker 3: I got to put my heart out.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Let's buckle up and go 12 rounds. That's what I'm
- 25:31Speaker 2: talking about.
- 25:31Speaker 1: When I do my votes, I'm not just putting down
- 25:34Speaker 1: my friends. It seems like sometimes the league has so
- 25:38Speaker 1: much respect for players that's been in the league so
- 25:41Speaker 1: long that we just kind of just throw them down.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Like, oh, yeah, so-and-so has been in the league for
- 25:45Speaker 2: a while. He's been hooping. Boom, boom.
- 25:47Speaker 1: But then we forget about, like, Who are the young
- 25:51Speaker 1: boys that's really killing the league? Like, Brock Bowers is
- 25:57Speaker 1: the best tight end in the league right now. Besides
- 25:59Speaker 1: Trey McBride.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Trey McBride.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Give that man his credit.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Yeah, McBride has probably won Brock Bowers too.
- 26:04Speaker 1: And then we get back into our ODs who's been
- 26:06Speaker 1: killing the game for a while.
- 26:07Speaker 2: But, like, people are being.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Scared to put that out there. I get what you're saying.
- 26:11Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. Like, I feel like this is
- 26:12Speaker 1: a prime example. Like, like, Certain days, like, it's not
- 26:16Speaker 1: like they're saying Josh Allen. Like, Josh Allen, you're like, yo,
- 26:19Speaker 1: we got to really lock in.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:21Speaker 3: I mean, Brock right now is ready 60, still above Jordan.
- 26:23Speaker 3: I'll give you another quarterback above Jordan, Bo Nix.
- 26:26Speaker 2: See, no, no, no.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Like, stat comparison, like, hold on, bro. Like, I'm pretty
- 26:35Speaker 1: sure Bo Nix had more interceptions than Jordan Love. And
- 26:40Speaker 1: they probably were tied around the same passing touchdowns, maybe.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Let's look.
- 26:47Speaker 3: And Jordan missed a few games last year.
- 26:49Speaker 2: He did.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Bo Nix, 25 TDs, 11 interceptions.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Let me let you.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Know what my boy Jordan Love did.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Last year.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Jordan Love. Jordan Love last year, 23 touchdowns, 6 interceptions. 3,381 yards.
- 27:04Speaker 3: And he missed three games or two games.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Come on, man.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Like, what are we talking about? He's just a better player.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Bo Nix, very good player.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Very good.
- 27:12Speaker 3: It's like the quarterbacks get so much flack for what
- 27:15Speaker 3: their team does. But when we watch the game, I
- 27:18Speaker 3: would much rather play Bo Nix than Jordan Love. 100%.
- 27:20Speaker 2: 100%.
- 27:21Speaker 1: And that's no discredit, but we're talking about, we're saying
- 27:26Speaker 1: 71 players are better than Jordan Love. Like, they had
- 27:31Speaker 1: Jared Goff rated higher than Jordan Love.
- 27:33Speaker 2: We beat the Detroit. We swept the Detroit Lions last year.
- 27:36Speaker 3: Hello.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Clean sweep.
- 27:38Speaker 1: And Jordan Love put up 30-plus on one of the
- 27:41Speaker 1: top defenses in the NFL of the Detroit Lions.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Right. Like, come on, bro. Come on.
- 27:47Speaker 1: He put up, what, 20-something the first game? And what,
- 27:50Speaker 1: we dropped 30 just a second? I forget, but I
- 27:53Speaker 1: just know it's a clean sweep.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Clean sweep.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Yeah, y'all took care of them. I'm going to give
- 27:57Speaker 3: you somebody who's not a quarterback. I think he's a
- 28:00Speaker 3: really good player, but I don't think that they're a
- 28:02Speaker 3: better player than Jordan Love. Cooper Dejean, really good player.
- 28:07Speaker 3: An elite cornerback.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Elite.
- 28:09Speaker 1: But he's not better. He's not better at cornerback than
- 28:11Speaker 1: Jordan Love is at QB. And I think where he's
- 28:14Speaker 1: playing corner at, that kind of shows that. You're playing,
- 28:18Speaker 1: you know, Nickle is in a hard position. I mean,
- 28:21Speaker 1: it is a hard position, but like. You know, because
- 28:24Speaker 1: you are on the island a lot as a nickel.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Nickel's probably one of the hardest positions on the field.
- 28:29Speaker 3: It's difficult.
- 28:29Speaker 2: It's very difficult.
- 28:30Speaker 3: But you're not going to get those big splash plates
- 28:32Speaker 3: from the nickel. So you don't see them giving up
- 28:34Speaker 3: the bomb. You know what I'm saying? Like, those things
- 28:35Speaker 3: don't happen.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Not consistently. A lot of the overs and things like that, like,
- 28:38Speaker 2: you'll give up. But, like, that's tough. But, like, I
- 28:42Speaker 2: still think Jordan Love's just a little bit better, though.
- 28:45Speaker 2: He is.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Quarterback who's so many spots in front of him, Drake May.
- 28:51Speaker 1: You know, I think that's because he went to the
- 28:53Speaker 1: Super Bowl. a lot of that be going to, like,
- 28:57Speaker 1: Super Bowl love, like, playoff love. Like, I think we value. Like,
- 29:01Speaker 1: there was a point in time where it was like,
- 29:03Speaker 1: we don't know who's going to be MVP. Matthew Stafford,
- 29:06Speaker 1: Drake Love. Like, no offense to Drake Love or Drake May, but, like,
- 29:12Speaker 1: I didn't even think that was a conversation to be had.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Bad conversation.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Like, it's like almost, are we serious right now? Like,
- 29:18Speaker 1: I wonder, like, if we try to make it conversational, like,
- 29:21Speaker 1: just so, like, it could be, like, mad love, but, like, Yo,
- 29:24Speaker 1: they're not even in the same category.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Drake may have some impressive stats through for a lot
- 29:28Speaker 3: of yards, a lot of touchdowns, but he's just not
- 29:31Speaker 3: the same player. And he also has, he had a
- 29:33Speaker 3: defense who was balling out all of last year.
- 29:36Speaker 1: And that's what I'm saying. Like, it got to be
- 29:38Speaker 1: consistent around the board. And, like, I know, you know,
- 29:41Speaker 1: Drake May lost a lot of his receiver help too,
- 29:43Speaker 1: so I'm not going to take that away from him.
- 29:44Speaker 1: He had an amazing year, you know, second MVP. But, like,
- 29:48Speaker 1: I don't know if he's, you know, 50-plus slots better
- 29:52Speaker 1: than– He's not.
- 29:53Speaker 2: He's not.
- 29:53Speaker 3: We can't even argue about that.
- 29:56Speaker 2: He's not.
- 29:56Speaker 1: It's a closer bargain than, you know, people want to
- 29:58Speaker 1: get into– This is new home advantage presented by Wayfair.
- 30:03Speaker 1: And Quincy, I would love for you to throw me
- 30:06Speaker 1: some off-season moves that you think is going to have
- 30:08Speaker 1: the biggest impact.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 30:10Speaker 3: I'm going to kind of stick to the wide receiver
- 30:12Speaker 3: position here. We got A.J. Brown to the Patriots, D.J.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Moore to the Buffalo Bills, and Mike Evans to the 49ers.
- 30:22Speaker 2: I think my biggest move is going to have to
- 30:24Speaker 2: be the Patriots. Oh, A.J. Brown the dog.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Not only is he a dog, I think he's the
- 30:29Speaker 1: most– Because of one, like last year, he's probably became
- 30:35Speaker 1: the villain and probably the most disrespected receiver in the
- 30:39Speaker 1: league for some reason. And whether it's because the controversy
- 30:44Speaker 1: and the Twitter people of Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown,
- 30:48Speaker 1: whatever they wanted to throw out there, he's become mad disrespected.
- 30:52Speaker 1: And forget that this is the man that was shattering
- 30:55Speaker 1: records week after week just two, three years ago. Like
- 30:59Speaker 1: a consistent all pro, all pro, all pro. And I
- 31:02Speaker 1: think now that he's with the all pro Drake May,
- 31:05Speaker 1: he is going to go crazy once again. And I
- 31:08Speaker 1: think this is the time that we see Drake May,
- 31:11Speaker 1: what he's really made of. He got a number one now. Yeah,
- 31:14Speaker 1: he has a number one. There's no excuses now. There's
- 31:16Speaker 1: no excuses. You have a number one now. Like that
- 31:18Speaker 1: was the, you know, Stefan Diggs, you know.
- 31:22Speaker 2: He was really a two going, like, he's at.
- 31:24Speaker 1: The back end of his career. Like, last year he
- 31:27Speaker 1: had over 1,000 yards. Great for him. I think that's
- 31:29Speaker 1: still a great year, great numbers. But he's not signing
- 31:34Speaker 1: to be number one no more. Like, that's not what
- 31:36Speaker 1: he's signing for. Dick said he was number two, so
- 31:38Speaker 1: I'm with you. Like, he feels like he's at that
- 31:40Speaker 1: point in his career. My thing about A.J. Brown is
- 31:45Speaker 1: are you comfortable when you don't get the touches? Because
- 31:48Speaker 1: him being that number one there, he's going to get
- 31:49Speaker 1: a lot of things rolled to him.
- 31:51Speaker 3: A lot of doubles, a lot of things like that.
- 31:53Speaker 3: We saw how he responded last year when he got
- 31:55Speaker 3: 78 catches. It was just a lot of balls. It's
- 31:57Speaker 3: not the hundred that he's used to. But how is
- 32:00Speaker 3: he going to respond in those situations? He doesn't have
- 32:02Speaker 3: a Devontae Smith on the other side now. That was
- 32:05Speaker 3: like he's an elite receiver as a number two. He
- 32:07Speaker 3: doesn't have that anymore.
- 32:09Speaker 2: That's true.
- 32:10Speaker 1: But I do think they have a lot of young
- 32:13Speaker 1: players and they have an elite run game. They understand
- 32:16Speaker 1: the system a little bit more. Like I think Philly
- 32:18Speaker 1: had an identity crisis where it was like, Do we
- 32:21Speaker 1: go with two K say, or do we go to
- 32:24Speaker 1: one K Brown or do we go to Devante Smith?
- 32:27Speaker 1: Like they didn't know who they wanted to like win
- 32:29Speaker 1: the game off of. And I think that's when you
- 32:31Speaker 1: kind of lose everybody because now you're like, cause I
- 32:36Speaker 1: think when you have so many egos on the offense, everyone.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Has to be fit. Right.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Like Jalen Hurst wants to be fed. Like I'm doing this.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Like it's me. Like it's me. Like, like I see
- 32:46Speaker 1: it in them. Like he's like, it's me. Like I,
- 32:48Speaker 1: like I see it in them. Like everyone sees that. Like, like, uh,
- 32:51Speaker 1: You know, Saquon, like, Saquon is probably the more, like, conservative, but, like,
- 32:55Speaker 1: you see the way he wants to play.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Like, I want the ball. Like, I know I can
- 32:58Speaker 2: do more. Like, and we believe it. We've seen it.
- 33:00Speaker 1: But then you got two special receivers that you're playing
- 33:03Speaker 1: 25 million plus a year or two that's like, yo,
- 33:07Speaker 1: don't forget the program.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Like, we still out here, too. Yeah.
- 33:11Speaker 3: They didn't have an identity is what really it relied, like,
- 33:14Speaker 3: what it came down to. They did not know who
- 33:16Speaker 3: they were. And I don't think that their previous offensive
- 33:19Speaker 3: coordinator communicated to the team that well enough, this is
- 33:22Speaker 3: what we're doing, this is who we are. And I
- 33:24Speaker 3: think you know this. As a player, all you want is, like,
- 33:28Speaker 3: honest communication, knowing what's going on, and you can play
- 33:31Speaker 3: well from there. They didn't have those things, and I
- 33:33Speaker 3: think that kind of fractured their team and their offense.
- 33:36Speaker 1: And I think what people fail to realize, and, you know,
- 33:40Speaker 1: I'm glad that they're starting to get more money, is
- 33:44Speaker 1: the best football teams are the teams that can establish
- 33:47Speaker 1: the run game.
- 33:48Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Like running backs are finally starting to get their paper
- 33:51Speaker 1: and starting to get their recognition they deserve. If you
- 33:54Speaker 1: could run the football, it makes throwing the football.
- 33:57Speaker 2: A lot easier. A lot easier.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Because now you're unmanageable. If you can win first and
- 34:02Speaker 1: second down, you can win a lot of football games.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Get me in third and three. I don't want to
- 34:07Speaker 1: be in third and ten.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Yeah, get me in those.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Now you got Miles Garrett, Micah Parsons smiling like, ah, like, yo,
- 34:14Speaker 1: we coming.
- 34:15Speaker 2: And, like, you know it. So, like, now it's hot throws.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Get it out the hand, like. Now I'm under duress.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Now it's third and three. Is it run or pass?
- 34:23Speaker 1: Now I'm thinking. Am I playing a run? Am I
- 34:25Speaker 1: setting an edge? Or can I get vertical? It's a
- 34:29Speaker 1: completely different football game. And I feel like they're missing that.
- 34:33Speaker 1: So I think that's why I say the Patriots are
- 34:35Speaker 1: going to win because they got Stevenson, they got Henderson.
- 34:39Speaker 2: And now they got A.J.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Brown and Drake May who can really do an under
- 34:42Speaker 1: center and shotgun play. I think it could be special.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I think the Eagles worked out a shotgun too much
- 34:47Speaker 1: last year. They never really got a lot under center,
- 34:50Speaker 1: which is not normal for us. And I think that's
- 34:54Speaker 1: kind of like a bad trend that a lot of
- 34:56Speaker 1: teams just want to stay in shotgun. What does that
- 34:58Speaker 1: do to you as a defensive end, the difference between
- 35:00Speaker 1: a quarterback being under center and a quarterback being in shotgun?
- 35:02Speaker 1: You know, it just switches the situations up. Like, under center, like,
- 35:06Speaker 1: you could get stats where it's like, oh, we're getting
- 35:08Speaker 1: 70% more run game.
- 35:09Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 35:10Speaker 1: Like, we come in and every Wednesday it would be like,
- 35:13Speaker 1: listen– And why off-wing, why paired up, whatever, they're running
- 35:18Speaker 1: the ball, duo, counter, but it's 78% run.
- 35:21Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 35:23Speaker 1: They might have a few passes, verticals, drags, slants off
- 35:27Speaker 1: of it, but it's 78% run, so this is what
- 35:29Speaker 1: we're thinking about it.
- 35:30Speaker 2: But that 78 ain't always, you know what I mean?
- 35:33Speaker 2: It ain't always true. You know what I mean?
- 35:34Speaker 1: Or, you know, when you're on the center, it could
- 35:36Speaker 1: be like they're running to the slot a lot more.
- 35:40Speaker 1: So that means they're running to the field. They're going
- 35:41Speaker 1: to keep the slot unless they go, you know, they're
- 35:44Speaker 1: keeping the receivers into the boundary and, you know, they
- 35:46Speaker 1: can do that too. But the runners most likely go
- 35:49Speaker 1: into the slot. But it keeps you honest and it
- 35:52Speaker 1: keeps you like, damn, you know what I mean?
- 35:54Speaker 2: Like, what am I expecting?
- 35:55Speaker 1: Now I'm thinking like, hey, I got all this information
- 35:58Speaker 1: during the week. Now how am I going to process it?
- 36:01Speaker 1: Versus teams that just live in shotgun, it's like, okay, bet.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Done far, what am I expecting? Pullers.
- 36:09Speaker 1: You know, I'm expecting the truck. I mean, you know,
- 36:13Speaker 1: it's very easy to predict. All right, gun near. All right,
- 36:16Speaker 1: gun zone.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Duo. It's all coming out of the shotgun. Like, it's
- 36:19Speaker 2: very easy. Like, all right, bet.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Now, the tackle, you went from square to now that
- 36:24Speaker 1: leg kicked a little bit back because now you see
- 36:26Speaker 1: him on the edge. All right, now I know his pass. So,
- 36:28Speaker 1: it just offers a different flavor. And I think that's
- 36:31Speaker 1: why when you see the best offensive coordinators in the league,
- 36:35Speaker 1: they give you a little bit of everything. You're going
- 36:37Speaker 1: to start seeing more under center pass this year, I
- 36:38Speaker 1: feel like. Just five-step, real drop back from under center.
- 36:42Speaker 1: A little bit more difficult on the quarterback, just on
- 36:43Speaker 1: our footwork aspect. But if you can do it at
- 36:46Speaker 1: a high level, I think you put your offense in
- 36:48Speaker 1: a really good position.
- 36:48Speaker 2: You do.
- 36:49Speaker 1: And it takes the load off your tackles consistently. It
- 36:54Speaker 1: takes the load off the quarterback consistently. Like, let them
- 36:57Speaker 1: bite up in the run game. Get a quick dunk.
- 37:00Speaker 1: You know, get the flash across, shifts, shift motions. Like,
- 37:06Speaker 1: make it confusing for the defense a little bit.
- 37:08Speaker 2: I think that's what you get. Oh, shoot, we got
- 37:10Speaker 2: our X. We bring him in. Now he's in the court.
- 37:13Speaker 2: All right, bet.
- 37:13Speaker 1: On the snap of the ball, we got wide motion
- 37:15Speaker 1: to the back, running right, but the receiver's going left. Like,
- 37:17Speaker 1: it just throws so many different things at you. Now
- 37:20Speaker 1: it's moving fast for the defense. And I think that
- 37:23Speaker 1: was the hard part about linebackers that a lot of
- 37:26Speaker 1: people don't realize. Like, and that's why it takes so
- 37:28Speaker 1: much growth and, you know, coaching and development of learning
- 37:31Speaker 1: football is like a lot is going on, but what
- 37:36Speaker 1: are they actually doing? What are you trying to do
- 37:38Speaker 1: to attack me?
- 37:39Speaker 3: I want to show you a play from a quarterback's
- 37:41Speaker 3: perspective so you can kind of see how things start
- 37:43Speaker 3: to move fast. I'm going to play it once real
- 37:45Speaker 3: quick for you, and then we're going to talk about
- 37:47Speaker 3: the play, all right?
- 37:48Speaker 2: Yep.
- 37:48Speaker 3: So this is Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles, and this is
- 37:51Speaker 3: what quarterbacks see every single play. Now that turns out
- 37:57Speaker 3: to be a touchdown, but I'm going to run it
- 37:59Speaker 3: back for you, and I'm going to talk about what
- 38:00Speaker 3: we're thinking about, and I want to understand kind of
- 38:03Speaker 3: how you handle this as a defensive end. Right. So
- 38:06Speaker 3: we come out. We're building a bunch. So what that
- 38:09Speaker 3: means is we've got two receivers to the right. Our
- 38:11Speaker 3: back is in that far set away from our tight
- 38:14Speaker 3: end on the left. So we've got a back, our Quan.
- 38:18Speaker 3: He's free-releasing. As a defensive edge, and how do you
- 38:21Speaker 3: really think about this back coming out here to the right, right?
- 38:25Speaker 3: And he may look like he's getting.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Ready to chip in. Can you go straight from the beginning?
- 38:29Speaker 3: Yep, I'll bring it back to the top.
- 38:33Speaker 1: I want to see if it shows us right at
- 38:35Speaker 1: the beginning, like, if we kind of see where his
- 38:38Speaker 1: position's at.
- 38:38Speaker 3: Nah, you won't see it. He's just outside technique of
- 38:41Speaker 3: the tackle, and you got the two receivers in, like,
- 38:43Speaker 3: a tight split.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Yep. Okay.
- 38:45Speaker 1: I'm going to say, all right, off the rip, running
- 38:48Speaker 1: back alignment is going to tell me if I'm getting
- 38:50Speaker 1: a chip or not. And he's to your side right now. Yeah,
- 38:52Speaker 1: he's to my side, but he's wide. That lets me
- 38:55Speaker 1: know he's getting out. Like, he's not worried about me anymore. Now,
- 39:00Speaker 1: a running back, all running backs have a little bit
- 39:02Speaker 1: of towels.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 39:03Speaker 1: When they come to the line, if they're more focused
- 39:07Speaker 1: and they're trying to count the box, you kind of tell,
- 39:11Speaker 1: all right, it's more of a run. But if they're
- 39:14Speaker 1: kind of looking around, they're kind of analyzing, giving you
- 39:16Speaker 1: the watch this, watch that.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Yeah, they're telling me they're getting ready to block.
- 39:21Speaker 1: They got protection responsibility. Yes, they got protection responsibility. So one,
- 39:25Speaker 1: they're fast to the ball. So if you if you
- 39:26Speaker 1: look at this like oh it's quick out of the
- 39:28Speaker 1: huddle it's quick out of huddle once you see quick
- 39:30Speaker 1: out of huddle you know right away that it's coming
- 39:32Speaker 1: fast so he's not worried about chips right now yeah
- 39:35Speaker 1: okay he's not worried about chips right fast to the
- 39:37Speaker 1: ball means the bat they trying to get the look
- 39:39Speaker 1: if you even look at the defense carter's hands not
- 39:42Speaker 1: even all he's just getting set in the ball snap
- 39:45Speaker 1: so that lets you know They're not worried about nothing.
- 39:48Speaker 1: This ball is trying to come out fast, and they're
- 39:49Speaker 1: trying to get the defense unready so they can't communicate.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Okay, so we do that.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Boom.
- 39:53Speaker 3: This is what we're doing. We got Saquon to the
- 39:55Speaker 3: flat right here. We're going to have a corner here,
- 39:58Speaker 3: and we're going to have a spot here. So how
- 40:00Speaker 3: Jalen's reading this, right, how quarterbacks are taught to read this,
- 40:03Speaker 3: Saquon's going to be one, right? His eyes are to
- 40:05Speaker 3: the flat fast. If we get zone coverage, we want
- 40:08Speaker 3: to high-low the outside defender. We get man here, and
- 40:11Speaker 3: they do a great job of taking that away. So
- 40:13Speaker 3: you didn't get the chip, and that's what I was
- 40:14Speaker 3: worried about for this tackle. and Saquon's to the flat.
- 40:17Speaker 3: They do a great job of doing that. Now, you
- 40:20Speaker 3: used to play linebacker. This linebacker right now, to me,
- 40:24Speaker 3: he's in hell. Jalen did a great job. Eyes, it
- 40:27Speaker 3: was gone to the right. Now he's coming back to
- 40:28Speaker 3: the left. People are thinking Jalen Hurts is just looking
- 40:32Speaker 3: him off. That's not what's going on. He's got a
- 40:35Speaker 3: sit right here and then a back line behind it.
- 40:38Speaker 3: But when you're playing defense, you're playing that middle linebacker spot.
- 40:41Speaker 3: How do you really react to this when you see
- 40:42Speaker 3: a quarterback's eyes go to this sit route or grab route?
- 40:47Speaker 1: Bro, you almost got, like, they teach you goal line discipline,
- 40:51Speaker 1: and that's what makes it so hard. Because technically Bond
- 40:54Speaker 1: did the right thing.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:56Speaker 3: He goes to take it away.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:58Speaker 1: He melts on it. That's the goal line discipline. Anything
- 41:01Speaker 1: kind of in your area, you want to be the
- 41:03Speaker 1: reason it breaks up. Like, that's the hard part. But,
- 41:07Speaker 1: you know, it leaves so much room for that corner
- 41:10Speaker 1: on that dig, which he gets hit by. Then he
- 41:12Speaker 1: goes back line dig right there. High ball, great throw.
- 41:16Speaker 2: That's hard. That's a great throw by Jalen Hurts.
- 41:18Speaker 3: And people see a quarterback, you know, come to the
- 41:21Speaker 3: line of scrimmage and have to do these things. That's
- 41:23Speaker 3: a lot of information you got to handle. Are they
- 41:25Speaker 3: in man or zone? Eyes got to start to the right.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Then I got to peek the corner, come back, see
- 41:30Speaker 3: the sit, and then the back line behind it. You
- 41:32Speaker 3: really got to be able to play perfect offense. And
- 41:34Speaker 3: then the defense, I still think, did a really good job,
- 41:36Speaker 3: made it a tough throw on the quarterback.
- 41:38Speaker 1: But what that tells us, and that's the hard part,
- 41:41Speaker 1: no matter how hard, we kind of see a priest
- 41:42Speaker 1: in that. They come to the ball fast, we got
- 41:45Speaker 1: to get ready. We got to get the communications ready. Like,
- 41:49Speaker 1: that's what makes defense so hard, right? Like, you never
- 41:52Speaker 1: know if they– like, the urgency, the tempo. Like, that
- 41:56Speaker 1: is what makes championship teams go. So, that's a great
- 41:59Speaker 1: rep by our Philly right there.
- 42:00Speaker 3: You see my boy CJ Stroud out on that field?
- 42:02Speaker 2: Yes. You seen his pregame? I have seen it. What
- 42:06Speaker 2: was he doing? I have no idea.
- 42:09Speaker 1: But, look, the crazy thing is everyone has their weird, like,
- 42:13Speaker 1: itch for how they need to warm up. Whenever I
- 42:17Speaker 1: ask him to play his best football, I hope that
- 42:19Speaker 1: works for him.
- 42:19Speaker 3: I'm going to show you what my dog was doing.
- 42:20Speaker 3: This is some quarterback. I think it's going to become bigger,
- 42:23Speaker 3: not only with quarterbacks for everybody.
- 42:25Speaker 2: All right.
- 42:25Speaker 3: So you've seen him over here. Then he took it
- 42:28Speaker 3: up and down. That's called a saccade circuit. All right.
- 42:33Speaker 3: So what we're doing, right, is we're just trying to
- 42:37Speaker 3: improve our like visual and cognitive awareness. Everything on a
- 42:41Speaker 3: football field.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Yeah. You, You got it.
- 42:45Speaker 3: And now it's just our system being able to better
- 42:49Speaker 3: track and pick up objects. As a quarterback, like we
- 42:53Speaker 3: saw with Jalen, how many things that they're seeing, how
- 42:55Speaker 3: things are moving, right? You can't throw a ball till
- 42:58Speaker 3: you can track where your eyes need to go. So
- 43:00Speaker 3: your eyes need to see it, your feet need to
- 43:02Speaker 3: get in place, and then you can make a throw.
- 43:05Speaker 3: This is also something you'll see, you probably had a
- 43:07Speaker 3: concussion test or when they do those things where they
- 43:10Speaker 3: want you to start tracking. So If you're injured or concussed,
- 43:14Speaker 3: you may be like throw up or it may make
- 43:15Speaker 3: you sick. But if you're healthy, all these things are
- 43:18Speaker 3: just going to get you tracking in a better position
- 43:21Speaker 3: so you can throw the ball a little bit better,
- 43:22Speaker 3: be a little bit more accurate. It looks crazy, but
- 43:26Speaker 3: it is helping him out in terms of being a
- 43:28Speaker 3: better quarterback.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Whatever's going to help him go the distance, I'm rooting
- 43:33Speaker 2: for CJ. Let's go.
- 43:34Speaker 3: Let's do whatever it takes.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Whatever it takes. I don't care if you start getting
- 43:37Speaker 2: balloons on the field.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Hey.
- 43:41Speaker 2: Play some good football and let that defense eat, dog.
- 43:44Speaker 3: Let's do it, CJ. Yes, sir.
- 43:46Speaker 1: And, you know, speaking of young guys, when does the
- 43:48Speaker 1: kid take over? We think about Jalen Hurts. He took
- 43:51Speaker 1: over Philly. Now people are wondering is, you know, is
- 43:57Speaker 1: Shador going to take over Deshaun? You know, what do
- 44:00Speaker 1: you think about that? Like when does the kid take over?
- 44:05Speaker 1: I think that it really depends on the kid.
- 44:07Speaker 3: The Shador-Deshaun situation is really interesting to me Their situation
- 44:11Speaker 3: is a little bit different than others. Shador's not an
- 44:13Speaker 3: early-round draft pick. If they're winning games this year, Deshaun's
- 44:17Speaker 3: going to stay and be the starting quarterback for the
- 44:19Speaker 3: Cleveland Browns. If they're not winning or they're struggling, they're
- 44:23Speaker 3: going to end up having to throw Shador in there
- 44:25Speaker 3: just to see what they got so they know what
- 44:27Speaker 3: they're going to be doing at the quarterback position next
- 44:29Speaker 3: year because Deshaun's in the last year of his contract.
- 44:32Speaker 3: If he's not coming back there, they're going to have
- 44:34Speaker 3: to get somebody else. So I think that one, it'll
- 44:36Speaker 3: be– Really dependent just on how the team does, how
- 44:40Speaker 3: many games they're winning, how they're able to do. Then
- 44:42Speaker 3: you've got a situation like Kirk Cousins and Mendoza. I
- 44:46Speaker 3: think Mendoza, no matter what, week four, week five, he's
- 44:50Speaker 3: going to be the starting quarterback for the Las Vegas
- 44:53Speaker 3: Raiders just because he's the number one overall pick. You
- 44:56Speaker 3: know he's got to play. You know he's the future
- 44:58Speaker 3: of your franchise. But like you said, it's about your mentors.
- 45:02Speaker 3: Who's the other quarterback in the room with you? How
- 45:03Speaker 3: are they teaching you? How are they helping you develop?
- 45:06Speaker 3: I think that we've seen their relationship be really good.
- 45:09Speaker 3: But how's it going to be when Mendoza becomes a starter?
- 45:11Speaker 3: How much is Kirk going to be able to help him?
- 45:13Speaker 3: Or is he going to be willing to help him
- 45:15Speaker 3: as a quarterback?
- 45:16Speaker 1: You know, see, I don't necessarily, you know, I think
- 45:20Speaker 1: Kirk is the perfect guy for the job.
- 45:22Speaker 2: We shoot him with Pennix. He is paid by Atlanta.
- 45:25Speaker 1: They draft Pennix at number eight overall. And he, you know,
- 45:30Speaker 1: they kind of just, he's like, dang. You know, I
- 45:33Speaker 1: think he's been in the situation so many times. that
- 45:36Speaker 1: he's the perfect guy for the situation. And he's been
- 45:39Speaker 1: in the league so long.
- 45:40Speaker 3: He's been in the league so long, but I don't,
- 45:42Speaker 3: I mean, I think he handled it well, but I
- 45:44Speaker 3: don't know if he was in the quarterback. I know
- 45:46Speaker 3: that he wasn't in the quarterback meeting room doing a
- 45:49Speaker 3: ton to help Pennix. I think that that could change
- 45:51Speaker 3: this year. He went into a different situation. He goes
- 45:54Speaker 3: in knowing they're getting ready to draft Mendoza.
- 45:57Speaker 2: He was in Atlanta.
- 45:57Speaker 3: I think that took him off guard a little bit.
- 46:00Speaker 2: For sure. I mean, there was definitely questions with him
- 46:03Speaker 2: through the organization. Yeah.
- 46:04Speaker 1: And I think that kind of leaves a bitterness into it,
- 46:06Speaker 1: like a salty, like, dang. So a different situation, but
- 46:10Speaker 1: I think him knowing the situation he was stepping into now,
- 46:14Speaker 1: like honest communication, is going to be a completely different
- 46:17Speaker 1: situation where I think Kirk and Mendoza is going to
- 46:20Speaker 1: have a great relationship. And I like it for Mendoza
- 46:23Speaker 1: because it doesn't throw him into pressure where he has to.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Start right away.
- 46:26Speaker 1: You've got a 20-year vet that's been in the league
- 46:28Speaker 1: for a long time, won a lot of games. that
- 46:30Speaker 1: you can learn from him. I think it's going to
- 46:31Speaker 1: be very important for his development. And, you know, if
- 46:34Speaker 1: the Raiders are on a hot streak, I don't see
- 46:36Speaker 1: them pulling Kirk.
- 46:36Speaker 2: 100%.
- 46:37Speaker 3: I don't know if they got what it takes to
- 46:39Speaker 3: get on a hot streak.
- 46:40Speaker 2: So I.
- 46:42Speaker 3: See Mendoza going in real quick here.
- 46:44Speaker 2: We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll know about, what,
- 46:46Speaker 2: week six? Week six.
- 46:47Speaker 3: We'll have a good idea what they're doing.
- 46:48Speaker 2: About week six.
- 46:49Speaker 3: All right, we got J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray. Kyler
- 46:52Speaker 3: Murray got announced as a starter before their first preseason
- 46:54Speaker 3: game even happened. What do you see going on there?
- 46:57Speaker 1: I think the relationship was over last season. And that
- 47:02Speaker 1: was kind of sad. And you hate to see it
- 47:05Speaker 1: because I've heard he had a great camp.
- 47:06Speaker 2: I heard good things. You know what I mean?
- 47:08Speaker 1: I heard a lot of good things, you know, from,
- 47:10Speaker 1: you know, report writers, Minnesota writers. They say he had
- 47:13Speaker 1: a great camp. He looked way better, way more improved.
- 47:16Speaker 1: But I think, you know, people had to say it.
- 47:19Speaker 1: Their best player on the team made the call. Like,
- 47:25Speaker 1: I think he left the piece– out there that kind
- 47:29Speaker 1: of left a lot of people scarred and they just
- 47:31Speaker 1: wanted to see a different situation.
- 47:33Speaker 2: I just hope it's not too late for him to
- 47:35Speaker 2: get it back.
- 47:37Speaker 3: I think that it is too late for JJ McCarthy
- 47:39Speaker 3: to get it back in Minnesota. But we've seen guys
- 47:42Speaker 3: go to a second team and have a resurgence, play
- 47:44Speaker 3: really well. The same Donalds of the world. Baker Mayfield.
- 47:47Speaker 3: Like guys who didn't work out necessarily with their first team,
- 47:50Speaker 3: but were able to bounce back. But I think that
- 47:53Speaker 3: Kevin O'Connell has soured on JJ McCarthy.
- 47:56Speaker 1: But I don't think you can just go anywhere. And
- 47:59Speaker 1: that be the case. Because, I mean, we've seen Mac
- 48:06Speaker 1: Jones go from Patriots to the Jaguars to San Fran.
- 48:12Speaker 2: And each one of them places look like a different quarterback.
- 48:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:15Speaker 1: It needs to be a developmental coach that understands football
- 48:20Speaker 1: at a very high level. I mean, we look at
- 48:23Speaker 1: Malik Willis. He left from Tennessee. came to the Green
- 48:27Speaker 1: Bay Packers, and you could argue that Malik Willis, the
- 48:32Speaker 1: way he looked under LaFleur and how LaFleur put into him,
- 48:37Speaker 1: he could have started anywhere.
- 48:38Speaker 2: Coaching matters, man.
- 48:40Speaker 3: It changes the game.
- 48:41Speaker 2: It changes the game.
- 48:41Speaker 3: I don't want to say Kevin O'Connell's not a good
- 48:43Speaker 3: coach because he's been able to do a lot of
- 48:44Speaker 3: good things, a lot of quarterbacks, but I don't know.
- 48:47Speaker 3: He's never taken a rookie quarterback and developed him that
- 48:49Speaker 3: way or a young quarterback and developed him that way.
- 48:51Speaker 3: He's done a great job with a lot of other quarterbacks.
- 48:54Speaker 3: And then our last QB competition, Tua versus Penix. When
- 48:58Speaker 3: does Penix become the starter?
- 49:01Speaker 1: I think for him, his focus needs to just be like,
- 49:05Speaker 1: let me get all the way healthy right. In his eyes,
- 49:08Speaker 1: he's got to say, I know this job is mine.
- 49:11Speaker 1: Let me make sure I'm 100% before I step back
- 49:13Speaker 1: on this field. yeah regardless of what the record is
- 49:16Speaker 1: because i'm gonna be honest with you the way the
- 49:19Speaker 1: league works is they don't care like how low you
- 49:24Speaker 1: were how much you put every effort to get back
- 49:28Speaker 1: if you don't come back the same player it's it's
- 49:31Speaker 1: sayonara see you later like like i don't know why
- 49:34Speaker 1: guys get this like you know, feeling like, oh, I
- 49:37Speaker 1: need to hurry up and get back, so I lock
- 49:39Speaker 1: in my position. No, you lock in your position by
- 49:42Speaker 1: being the best player you can be on Sunday. Yep.
- 49:46Speaker 1: And the best player you can be on Sunday is
- 49:48Speaker 1: making sure that you're the best person and you being
- 49:52Speaker 1: the best person of interest of yourself because they're always
- 49:55Speaker 1: going to be the best interest of the organization first.
- 49:58Speaker 1: And we see this so many times. So many guys
- 50:00Speaker 1: are like, I got to get back, get back. They
- 50:02Speaker 1: rush back and just don't look not comfortable. not confident, like, not.
- 50:08Speaker 2: Durable no more. Like, because they're compensating. This is wrong.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Oh, now my hamstring, now it's my groin, like.
- 50:17Speaker 3: He's not the same guy.
- 50:18Speaker 1: No, because you never caught up to fix the main problem.
- 50:23Speaker 1: And I tell so many young guys, it's like, when
- 50:26Speaker 1: someone told me, your body is your enterprise. How you
- 50:29Speaker 1: treat your enterprise will let you know the success your
- 50:32Speaker 1: enterprise goes to. So, like, I just hope that he
- 50:36Speaker 1: takes this and says, yo, I'm like, and, you know,
- 50:38Speaker 1: he's had injuries from college.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:40Speaker 1: And I've been seeing all these guru doctors, all these
- 50:44Speaker 1: guys coming on socials. Oh, he's been having, you know,
- 50:47Speaker 1: problems since college. And not just Pennix, you know, Jordan Tyson's,
- 50:51Speaker 1: the Chris Olave's.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:53Speaker 1: All he's been doing is people aren't learning. I mean,
- 50:56Speaker 1: they dealt the same thing with my dog, Christian Watson,
- 50:58Speaker 1: for the Green Bay Packers. And Christian was like, yo,
- 51:00Speaker 1: I'm going to go get this fixed. Went to a specialist,
- 51:03Speaker 1: worked on it, figured it out. And now he has
- 51:05Speaker 1: no more problems. That's what I mean when I say, yo,
- 51:09Speaker 1: use your body as an interest. Go see the specialist.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Go see people that has your best interest at heart
- 51:14Speaker 1: that's going to get you to where you need to
- 51:17Speaker 1: be and then come back and play great football.
- 51:19Speaker 3: With all that being said, Micah Parsons is not coming
- 51:21Speaker 3: back early until that man is ready. And when he
- 51:25Speaker 3: comes out there, he's going to be ready to dominate.
- 51:28Speaker 2: Amen.
- 51:28Speaker 1: And that's a wrap. Quincy, thanks for coming on the show.
- 51:31Speaker 1: I'm looking very much towards the season. I love everything
- 51:35Speaker 1: that you bring into the show. And this has been
- 51:37Speaker 1: The Edge presented by Wayfair. I appreciate you guys. And
- 51:41Speaker 1: I can't wait to be back.
- 51:42Speaker 2: See you soon.
