- 0:11Hello friends, it's Shaun here. And it's Yvonne.
- 0:14Happy Friday. And it is Friday, it's the 20th
- 0:18of February, and this is the second time we're doing this
- 0:21because I forgot to unmute Yvonne's microphone.
- 0:24Oh dear, it looked like it was working, but then, alas, it.
- 0:28Was not. You were more quiet than usual
- 0:30when we listened to the recording.
- 0:32So we're gonna do this again. Oh, we're such old pros.
- 0:34It is now. Yeah.
- 0:36Today. Today's 20th.
- 0:37Which means tomorrow. It's a very special day.
- 0:41It's your birthday. No, it's.
- 0:42Not for my birthday. Yeah, yeah.
- 0:46Tomorrow is ordination Day. This is the day that you knew
- 0:49was coming like 26 years ago. My goodness, is there anything
- 0:54else that you knew from like decades ago that that you should
- 0:56just tell me now and I'll just like skip ahead to the part
- 0:59where we actually do it rather than me procrastinating for so
- 1:02long? I'll I'll, I'll ponder that over
- 1:05the weekend. Yeah, Solomon might have written
- 1:08a book of wisdom, but boy, you're doing you're, you're
- 1:10punching well above your weight, I reckon.
- 1:13Thanks. But you have not yet captured
- 1:17your wisdom in a book and published it for the
- 1:19generations. And it would only be my wisdom,
- 1:23not. God's wisdom, and that's what
- 1:26this is in this wonderful book that King Solomon pens for us in
- 1:31these little bite sized moments of wisdom that we can apply to
- 1:35our day. So Holy Spirit, may we hear your
- 1:38wisdom for us as we read these proverbs together.
- 1:43Proverbs, 2113 to 18. Those who shut their ears to the
- 1:58cries of the poor will be ignored in their own time of
- 2:01need. A secret gift calms anger.
- 2:06A bribe under the table pacifies fury.
- 2:11Justice is a joy to the godly, but it terrifies evil doers.
- 2:17The person who strays from common sense will end up in the
- 2:21company of the dead. Those who love pleasure become
- 2:25poor. Those who love wine and luxury
- 2:28will never be rich. The wicked are punished in place
- 2:33of the godly, and traitors in place of the honest.
- 2:38And again. Those who shut their ears to the
- 2:42cries of the poor will be ignored in their own time of
- 2:45need. A secret gift calms anger.
- 2:51A bribe under the table pacifies fury.
- 2:55Justice is a joy to the godly, but it terrifies evil doers.
- 3:03The person who strays from common sense will end up in the
- 3:07company of the dead. Those who love pleasure become
- 3:12poor. Those who love wine and luxury
- 3:15will never be rich. The wicked are punished in place
- 3:20of the godly and traitors in place of the honest.
- 3:35But a bribery action going on here this week.
- 3:37Yvonne, OH. I was a little bit confused by
- 3:39that one really. I mean, if if this is Solomon
- 3:42reflecting on the truth of the world, it's true.
- 3:46Bribes work. Slipping A-100 under the table
- 3:49does pacify fury and and get what you want, but I love having
- 3:53the very next one. It says that justice is a joy to
- 3:56the godly, but it terrifies evil doers.
- 3:59It's like this works in this corrupted world of ours, but God
- 4:03calls us to a better way. A place where justice is a joy
- 4:08to to the godly, but it's going to terrify people who continue
- 4:12to do the wrong thing. Makes a lot more sense, thanks
- 4:15for that. And then the the final one where
- 4:18it talks about, you know, the wicked will be punished in place
- 4:21of the godly and traitors in place of the honest.
- 4:24Oh, and I really like the first proverb.
- 4:28Those who shut their ears to the cries of the poor will be
- 4:31ignored in their own time of need.
- 4:33Just a reminder that we really, it's, there's no better time.
- 4:38It's we need to be listening and seeing the needs of the people
- 4:41around us and we need to be doing something to help them
- 4:44that now is the time. Now is the time, Holy Spirit,
- 4:51this is the day that you have made and we are your people.
- 4:57I pray that you call us out to live lives that are wise.
- 5:01Wise, not in the way the world would see where a bribe under
- 5:05the table is going to bring the outcome that we want, but your
- 5:09wisdom that looks like mercy and kindness and generosity and
- 5:16justice so that we can bring about your way in this world and
- 5:23that we can love. Love in a way that makes a
- 5:26difference to those that we love, that we can share and that
- 5:29we can uplift. And that we can bring Your
- 5:33Kingdom, where the poor and the downtrodden are lifted up and
- 5:38celebrated. Our Lord, help us be your
- 5:41people, your Kingdom people today, and whatever that looks
- 5:47like in our part of the world, in our lives, in our day, we
- 5:50pray all of this in your wonderful name, Jesus, Amen.
