SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Becoming Saiyans, a Dragon Ball Rewatch podcast.
0:06
SPEAKER_00: And we're back.
0:07
SPEAKER_00: I'm Truman.
0:08
SPEAKER_00: And I'm Jesse.
0:09
SPEAKER_00: And this is Becoming Saiyans, a Dragon Ball Rewatch podcast.
0:12
SPEAKER_00: On today's episode, we watched episodes 79 and 80, titled The Terror and Plague and Goku vs.
0:22
SPEAKER_00: the Sky Dragon.
0:23
SPEAKER_00: Terror and Plague first aired in Japan on September 16th, 1987, and in America on November 28th, 2002.
0:32
SPEAKER_00: Whereas Goku vs.
0:33
SPEAKER_00: Sky Dragon aired um on September 23rd, 1987 in Japan and November 29th, 2002.
0:41
SPEAKER_00: Getting into some facts and some trivia, uh there the differences from the manga as the entire events of this episode for the first episode were exclusive to the anime.
0:51
SPEAKER_00: Um and then in trivia, near the beginning of this episode, Chaos tries to persuade or not Chaos, Chow, tries to persuade a tiger thief who is dressed very similar to the Bear Thief, but as a tiger.
1:04
SPEAKER_00: Another tiger thief makes an appearance in another episode, where he tries to stop Goku from doing some stuff in that episode.
1:11
SPEAKER_00: They may or may not have been the same character.
1:13
SPEAKER_00: They're both voiced by the same ca uh actor.
1:17
SPEAKER_00: The black-haired mustachioed villager is very commonly used character design throughout this series.
1:23
SPEAKER_00: Um, first of all, he was Sano's father, which we both pointed out when we were watching this.
1:28
SPEAKER_00: The village elder is also a common model.
1:30
SPEAKER_00: He's normally used he was used as Sherman Priest and the Jingle Village Chief.
1:36
SPEAKER_00: Um When Rain begins, a man resembling Grandpa Gohan but with a blue hat can be seen.
1:42
SPEAKER_00: Both Terror or Terror and Plague, as well as the ground of mist they use to terrorize the village, are likely based on the two Demon King brothers from the Chinese classic Journey to the West.
1:53
SPEAKER_00: Um Great King King Kak King Kako and Great King Ginkako.
2:00
SPEAKER_00: Uh probably did not pronounce either of those right, but we're gonna move on.
2:03
SPEAKER_00: And the Crimson Gord.
2:04
SPEAKER_00: They possess.
2:05
SPEAKER_00: The Crimson Gord is one of the five treasure tools they have, and it has the ability to suck their opponents in and melt them once they're trapped within.
2:13
SPEAKER_00: The villains of these episodes, uh the villains of the episode are rechristened as Terror and Plague, respectively, in the Funimation dub, as most American audiences would not be would not be familiar with their namesakes as far as Journey to the West.
2:27
SPEAKER_00: In the Blue Water Dub, they contrast uh by contrast calls them Gold and Silver, alluding to their inspiration, but leaving out the horn section of their name.
2:38
SPEAKER_00: Terror and Plague are brothers, according to the Japanese version, but in the English dubs they make no reference to this.
2:45
SPEAKER_00: That said the Blue Water Dub had them played by brother actors, uh Adam Hunter and Brendan Hunter, respectively, which I think is a cool little like nod to the whole thing.
2:55
SPEAKER_00: Um the path that Goku and Chao passed through is called the Road of Dreams in the original version.
3:00
SPEAKER_00: The Funimation dub left it unnamed, whereas the Blue Water dub calls it the Dream Avenue.
3:05
SPEAKER_00: The liquid inside the gourd in the Japanese version is not a potion that Terra and Plague gain power from.
3:10
SPEAKER_00: It's just ordinary sake they drink for pleasure.
3:13
SPEAKER_00: The change was made to avoid referencing alcohol, and the blue water dub did not use the potion angle, uh, but they did change the contents of the gourd to juice.
3:22
SPEAKER_00: That was a lot of triffee for that first episode.
3:24
SPEAKER_00: Jumping into the second episode, Goku versus Sky Dragon.
3:28
SPEAKER_00: Uh, then where is it differences from the manga, all exclusive to the anime this episode was.
3:36
SPEAKER_00: In trivia, uh Shokan has a similar hairstyle to a young uh character that we see later on, and has a voice very similar to uh the kid version of another kid we see or later on.
3:49
SPEAKER_00: Um The old woman who directs Goku to the town is identical to grandpa or grandma Pazauzu, which is the one that she met during Oolong, or one he met during Oolong the Terrible.
3:59
SPEAKER_00: They're both um voiced by the same actress named Stephanie Nal don uh Nadonli in the Funovation dub, who also vote voices young Goku.
4:10
SPEAKER_00: The man in the crowd watching Master Chin fight uh Rising Dragon is wearing uh Yamcha's original costume.
4:17
SPEAKER_00: Um Goku's tail regenerates in this episode and will remain until changes, which I also noticed.
4:23
SPEAKER_00: I was like, what when the tail come back?
4:25
SPEAKER_01: Uh I I didn't take much of a notice on it.
4:30
SPEAKER_01: Like I just was like, yeah, there's his tail.
4:32
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
4:33
SPEAKER_01: But that's kind of just my own memory for getting like, oh yeah, his tail got popped off like 30 minutes ago.
4:39
SPEAKER_01: Like in episode time.
4:41
SPEAKER_00: Um the last piece of trivia is about a I'm thinking a movie because I don't remember this at all.
4:47
SPEAKER_00: But saying that Sky Dragon makes a cameo and I'm assuming this is a movie uh later down the line in Dragon Ball Z.
4:54
SPEAKER_00: Um, but only in the English dub where I where in the uh original Japanese version he has a set there's a separate character named Kan Fun appears instead of the uh Sky Dragon.
5:04
SPEAKER_00: Which I think that's kind of fun.
5:05
SPEAKER_00: They just reuse the like the character, you know, model probably.
5:09
SPEAKER_00: Probably did a flashback and they go back to this time or whatever.
5:13
SPEAKER_00: Probably that that's that would be my guess.
5:15
SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen the movies famously, so.
5:17
SPEAKER_00: Um, but that's all the trivia we have so previously on Dragon Ball.
5:22
SPEAKER_00: Goku is learning from his new mentor, Life.
5:26
SPEAKER_00: And uh and what that means is he's going around places to place and spending an episode doing some stuff.
5:32
SPEAKER_00: In the first episode, he stumbles across a a girl named Chow, about to be chowed on by a tiger, um, but stops that from happening, and then she tells him about these two guys that are, you know, terrorizing and plaguing their town named aptly terror and plague.
5:49
SPEAKER_00: Goku shows up, starts to fight them, uh, gets sucked into a gourd, but then there's they stupidly let him out, and then he beats them up, end of the story.
5:58
SPEAKER_00: Moving on to the next episode, Goku is still just kind of wandering around doing his own thing before he ran into a lady and says, Hey lady, do you know if there's any strong people nearby?
6:08
SPEAKER_00: And she says, Yeah, down in the city, there's some strong people named Chin.
6:11
SPEAKER_00: So Goku wanders into the city and learns about this whole feud going on between these two warring martial arts uh dojos, uh, the sky or the dragon clan and the uh Chin's group.
6:26
SPEAKER_00: And Goku decides to join Chen's side, fights the Sky Dragon in a fight, like a martial arts tournament style setting one-on-one, wins and goes about his business, while also having to let out some business, if you know what I mean.
6:41
SPEAKER_00: And that's what you missed on Dragon Ball.
6:43
SPEAKER_00: Jesse, go for it.
6:44
SPEAKER_01: These are pretty fun.
6:45
SPEAKER_01: I mean, these are fun episodes.
6:47
SPEAKER_01: As we were discussing off uh off mic, almost said off camera, but off-mic uh as we're setting everything up.
6:54
SPEAKER_01: There's not a whole lot to these episodes in learning that they're all anime, at least these two are.
7:00
SPEAKER_00: I wrote I wrote a note that said the these just feel like they're fully exclusive.
7:04
SPEAKER_00: Like on the first episode, like this feels like a fully exclusive episode.
7:07
SPEAKER_01: Like it it you kind of get that feel from it.
7:09
SPEAKER_01: It feels like they didn't want to immediately jump to the tournament.
7:14
SPEAKER_01: Because like I th because obviously I think the part where you know we have like a couple years and Goku just runs off and does his own thing is like a part of the manga as well.
7:24
SPEAKER_01: It feels like that's a line straight out of the manga.
7:27
SPEAKER_01: But the manga just time like probably just time skips it to the tournament.
7:31
SPEAKER_01: That's it.
7:32
SPEAKER_01: And then you get some maybe like some weird flashbacks here or there, like some references to stuff.
7:36
SPEAKER_01: Where it's like, well, we don't really want to do that, so let's put in like I'm gonna assume the next five episodes are very like the next three episodes, obviously these two episodes.
7:44
SPEAKER_01: After these two, yeah.
7:46
SPEAKER_01: Uh are just a lot of one-off.
7:48
SPEAKER_01: Here's something that Goku does to like learn a lesson or learn a thing.
7:52
SPEAKER_01: Which he does, you know, he learns some lessons in the first episode here, and he learns a thing in the second episode.
7:58
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
7:58
SPEAKER_01: And some lessons.
7:59
SPEAKER_00: I also told Jesse between both episodes, like after we finish the first episode and after we finished the second episode, that these are my favorite types of Dragon Ball shows.
8:08
SPEAKER_00: Like, I love the end of the world threat of destruction as much as the next person.
8:12
SPEAKER_00: It gets hype and there are hype moments, you know.
8:15
SPEAKER_01: But there's a s there is that soft spot of like just seeing Goku being Goku.
8:20
SPEAKER_01: Like just not you can't really say seeing Goku being normal.
8:24
SPEAKER_01: But seeing Goku being Goku.
8:26
SPEAKER_00: But just seeing him be a like a person and then having to deal with all this other stuff in the universe.
8:32
SPEAKER_00: It's very it's like it honestly, it's just one of those things that I just enjoy the a ton out of out of these shows.
8:39
SPEAKER_00: Like, I love it in Z.
8:40
SPEAKER_00: There's parts in Z where they're like there's there's just episodes that are just like this.
8:45
SPEAKER_00: Like, there are episodes where you know Goku goes to get his driver's license in Z.
8:50
SPEAKER_00: And it's like, does that matter in the grand scheme of like fighting the end of the world terrors?
8:56
SPEAKER_00: No, but it is it fun to watch Goku like get his driver's license because he never had to drive because he can just you know at that point can just fly around or you know, teleport or whatever.
9:06
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's real fun to watch that.
9:07
SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, like it's the same as in this.
9:09
SPEAKER_00: It's like, is it like is this necessary?
9:12
SPEAKER_00: Not at all.
9:13
SPEAKER_00: On a technicality, yeah, not at all.
9:14
SPEAKER_00: It's not.
9:15
SPEAKER_00: It's not at all.
9:16
SPEAKER_00: This episode, these two episodes, probably the next three episodes, not necessary at all.
9:21
SPEAKER_00: But they're fun as all get out because it is just like, what's Goku up to?
9:25
SPEAKER_00: Oh, what what's like uh what does a what does a kid do when he's been told by his master, hey, just like go walk around and learn?
9:33
SPEAKER_00: And he's like, Well, I guess I'll just walk around and beat stuff up.
9:36
SPEAKER_01: It reminds me of like there's like a TikTok account that I follow that's like, what's happening in the shrimp tank today?
9:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just a whole bunch of episodes, it's just a couple episodes just like that, where it's like, it's something like there was one video they posted, it was like it's animating the shrimp tank having the Titanic happen.
9:50
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
9:50
SPEAKER_01: Or uh for like the um the April Fools joke yesterday, because we're recording this day after April Fool's.
9:57
SPEAKER_01: Uh they posted what's happening in the fi the ant farm today.
10:00
SPEAKER_01: And it's like raindrops started coming down.
10:03
SPEAKER_01: It was like a war zone.
10:04
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
10:04
SPEAKER_01: It was like just fun stuff.
10:06
SPEAKER_01: It's like a bunch of episodes like that.
10:08
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
10:08
SPEAKER_00: And I, again, not to like belittle these episodes, because like I love these types of episodes in this show.
10:16
SPEAKER_00: But like my negative on these is the same as my positive, is that like they are wholly unnecessary.
10:23
SPEAKER_00: Um, they you don't have to watch these episodes.
10:26
SPEAKER_00: They're you can just jump the next five episodes to the next when the tournament starts.
10:31
SPEAKER_01: But that would not be us doing the justice of watching the entire series.
10:35
SPEAKER_00: But we are gonna watch the entire series, and for me, the positive is yeah, you don't have to watch these episodes, but that's why they're so fun.
10:41
SPEAKER_01: These are these are an I feel like this this is a really nice palette cleanser, like a couple of episodes.
10:46
SPEAKER_01: In between, like, you know, the life or death.
10:48
SPEAKER_01: We just we just brought someone back to life.
10:51
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
10:51
SPEAKER_00: But now we're gonna decompress and let Goku just like have like that that's what these episodes do.
10:56
SPEAKER_00: Because every time it pops up in the other, and like in Z, the the driver's license episode happens right after something crazy happens in the episodes, you know.
11:06
SPEAKER_00: And it's like, well, now we're gonna take a minute and have Goku Google get his driver's license.
11:09
SPEAKER_00: Now we're gonna take a minute and have another character like become like a superhero because he's with an alter ego, you know.
11:16
SPEAKER_00: Like he's trying to keep the whole city safe, but like while being like a super savage.
11:21
SPEAKER_01: And then like when we're done doing this, we have we have a couple weeks off of just like relaxing, having fun.
11:26
SPEAKER_01: Then we can move on to the next world-ending thread.
11:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
11:29
SPEAKER_01: Or in our case, and what's coming up after these episodes, move into the next world martial arts tournament arc.
11:35
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's that's what these episodes are.
11:37
SPEAKER_00: These episodes, as as far as like, are they required viewing?
11:41
SPEAKER_00: Not at all.
11:42
SPEAKER_00: But are they necessary?
11:44
SPEAKER_00: Yes, because if it was just um this has been a thing in comics, and I can point to like if every thing is the biggest thing ever, and then the next thing is the biggest thing ever, and it ha everything has to one up the next thing to be the new biggest thing ever, eventually you're literally just like it loses the effect of the biggest thing ever.
12:04
SPEAKER_00: Because like, if everything is the end of the multiverse and the end of the world and the universe is at stake every single day, you at one point you're just like, just freaking blow up the universe.
12:15
SPEAKER_00: I don't care, like I can't handle this stress.
12:18
SPEAKER_01: It's the it's the same thing that kind of happens with like in real life and stuff, where it's like it's super easy to burn out your audience if it's just like, oh man, the stakes are super high.
12:29
SPEAKER_01: And it that's something that I I feel some newer media has a trouble with.
12:35
SPEAKER_01: And especially in the streaming era, where it's like, well, you think you can get around that because well we you know we only release a season every two two years or whatever.
12:43
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
12:43
SPEAKER_01: Like look I'm not trying to dog on stranger things, because I haven't personally watched it.
12:47
SPEAKER_01: But like I have seen I've in the pulp culture around it, I have seen how annoying it is that like it's it was a series purpose-built, like we're gonna film it, and all these kids are all gonna be high schoolers the entire time, and then it took them so long that it's like they're technically college aides, but they gotta like not be that 100%.
13:06
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I mean the biggest thing is it's like the death of the 22-episode show on TV just leads to the fact that you don't have episodes like some of my favorite episodes of How I Met Your Mother just to throw in a different show.
13:20
SPEAKER_00: There are the like the silly one-off episodes that don't really move the plot at all.
13:24
SPEAKER_00: Like Barney and Ted getting a bar doesn't doesn't like move the plot along.
13:29
SPEAKER_00: Like they they don't actually get a bar, but they like take over the bar for New Year's Eve or whatever.
13:33
SPEAKER_00: They get like one day to own a bar, and it's like this is a fun episode, but does it have anything to do with the wide range of the show?
13:40
SPEAKER_00: Absolutely not, you know?
13:42
SPEAKER_00: But that's like those kinds of episodes are important every once in a while because uh otherwise it like part people are like, oh, you're just like filling for time because you got given a bunch of episodes and you gotta fill.
13:53
SPEAKER_00: And it's like, I mean, I guess, but like a lot of it's also just like that you get you have a lot of time, so you get to like flesh out these characters more.
14:02
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you get to flesh out like Goku some more, you get to flesh out the world, even though these people probably are never gonna show up again, except for I guess Sky Dragon shows up in a movie, like way down the line, apparently.
14:15
SPEAKER_00: But like, maybe these guys aren't gonna show up a whole lot.
14:18
SPEAKER_00: It's not like we're gonna flash back to this town and these the either of these towns and see like what's going on in their day-to-day life.
14:26
SPEAKER_00: But they're if they're important episodes because Goku is like it shows the passage of time.
14:32
SPEAKER_00: Because if this didn't happen, we would have ended the last two episodes with um with bringing back uh Bora.
14:39
SPEAKER_00: And then immediately this next the first episode of these two is like, oh, and by the way, like two years have passed or whatever, and now Goku's like ready to fight in the world martial arts turn on it.
14:49
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
14:50
SPEAKER_00: And you just get to it too fast if you do it that way.
14:53
SPEAKER_01: Your brain's like, I just dealt with it.
14:56
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we just dealt with like a a tournament style sh uh, you know, episodes, like where he's having to fight five otherworldly beings, and we just had him meet his grandpa again.
15:07
SPEAKER_00: And revive and revive a person.
15:10
SPEAKER_00: And now two years have passed, but we didn't feel like any time passed, because it's been two seconds for us.
15:16
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
15:16
SPEAKER_01: So this is a great way to like show the time passing, show a little bit of what Goku's escapades seem to be like in these next couple of two or was it two or two years, I guess it was.
15:27
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it's two years.
15:28
SPEAKER_01: Two or three years, whatever whatever it is.
15:30
SPEAKER_00: Um this happens.
15:33
SPEAKER_00: The reason I like these so much is that it does just really show the passage of time.
15:37
SPEAKER_00: It like you can think of this as like this was the second day after he left, and then the third day, or you can think it's been a month and then three months to the next one, you know?
15:46
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
15:46
SPEAKER_00: And in between that, he's just doing other things like this, just kind of hanging out.
15:50
SPEAKER_00: Well, he's just a ser he's just living.
15:51
SPEAKER_00: He's uh living off the land.
15:53
SPEAKER_00: He's just traveling from place to place he's just traveling, and then he stumbles across a problem and he fixes it, and then he goes on on his way.
15:59
SPEAKER_00: Like both episodes start with him wandering into a situation.
16:03
SPEAKER_00: Um being like, Whoa, this is a weird situation, that may help out.
16:07
SPEAKER_00: And then the end of the episode is him being like, see you guys, I hope you fixed your problems.
16:11
SPEAKER_01: And like it all it also, like, I know kind of where the series ends up like going and like Z and stuff where he's like a non- not just in like international hero, but like a universal hero.
16:23
SPEAKER_01: And it's just like setting up those little droplets of like, oh, we gotta help like oh Goku's gonna save the world.
16:29
SPEAKER_01: I remember when Goku saved my village.
16:30
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
16:31
SPEAKER_01: I remember when Goku helped my dad, like beat his arch rival and like stop him from dying and stuff.
16:37
SPEAKER_01: Like it's these little tidbits where you're just planting these pins on a map where people are like, I know this Goku kid, I know this Goku guy.
16:44
SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah.
16:45
SPEAKER_01: And it it kind of helps with that.
16:47
SPEAKER_01: Like, if you're trying to leak it to the overarching plot, it helps get you closer to that type of stuff.
16:54
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
16:54
SPEAKER_00: Um, but after this long like exclamation on our opinions of this episode.
17:02
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we should jump into these episodes.
17:05
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
17:05
SPEAKER_00: And my first note is all these guys look like the same villagers.
17:09
SPEAKER_00: That was my first note.
17:11
SPEAKER_01: These are just these are just asset.
17:13
SPEAKER_00: These are all just reskinned versions of the Arctic.
17:16
SPEAKER_00: Instead of wearing Arctic, they're wearing farmer clothes.
17:18
SPEAKER_01: Like I I guess like the the fence you you have for themselves, for the the animated stuff is these episodes don't.
17:25
SPEAKER_01: Because these are filler episodes, you don't need them to be unique.
17:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
17:30
SPEAKER_01: Because you're only gonna see them for the next 20 minutes.
17:33
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
17:34
SPEAKER_00: And that it really is it, is they just were like, let's just grab some characters that are been in the background and just throw them on.
17:39
SPEAKER_00: This is the village now.
17:41
SPEAKER_00: All these characters from other places.
17:43
SPEAKER_01: Let's get generic villager one through like 50 and just throw them in here.
17:47
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
17:47
SPEAKER_01: Like, just figure it out.
17:49
SPEAKER_01: The only ones we need to be unique is Goku and whoever he's punching.
17:52
SPEAKER_00: And Chow.
17:54
SPEAKER_00: Chow's pretty unique in the tiger in the first episode.
17:57
SPEAKER_00: Which I guess is whoever he's punching.
17:58
SPEAKER_00: It's like it's in that category.
18:00
SPEAKER_01: It's like uh the person recruiting Goku, Goku, and whoever Goku is punching are the only ones that are going to be unique in this episode.
18:07
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
18:07
SPEAKER_00: Because yeah, especially And the MacGuffin.
18:10
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
18:10
SPEAKER_00: Especially like, because they even said in the trivia that like the tiger is just like the bear warrior, but like as a tiger, they just took the same like outfit and reskinned it.
18:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just they literally just fully reskin, which is it's it's funny to know that like yeah, they just were like, yeah, I don't know, tiger.
18:26
SPEAKER_00: It saves on budget and time, though just do that.
18:29
SPEAKER_01: Like when you're making episodes like this, no one cares.
18:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like it's it's funny to point out, but like at the end of the day, yeah, if if if this is gonna cause you to stop watching a show, did you really like the show in the first place?
18:43
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like did you really care?
18:45
SPEAKER_00: I mean, like you can think about it like the even go back to the first arc of like the first saga where it's the P-Loff saga.
18:51
SPEAKER_00: This is the same format as that, where every episode they would stumble into a new situation and have to get the dragon ball.
18:58
SPEAKER_00: But like in this one, there's just not a dragon ball.
19:01
SPEAKER_01: There's just a problem that Goku solves.
19:03
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but in those episodes, it's always like in the first saga, it was like Goku walks into a village and stumbles across like a problem, and but he also finds out that the Dragon Ball's there.
19:13
SPEAKER_00: And like he's there for the Dragon Ball, but he finds a problem, he beats up the problem, and then he gets the Dragon Ball.
19:18
SPEAKER_01: And then because he beat up the problem, that just happens to be what he needed to do to get the Dragon Ball or something.
19:22
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
19:22
SPEAKER_01: It's either he needed to do that to get the Dragon Ball because the problem had the Dragon Ball, or he finishes the problem and then like reward ends up just being the Dragon Ball.
19:32
SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
19:32
SPEAKER_00: And that's the same as this, just minus the Dragon Ball.
19:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
19:35
SPEAKER_00: He stumbles into a situation, uh, but that also like without the radar, so that's not like he's tracking stuff.
19:40
SPEAKER_00: He's just wandering around and he's like, oh, this is a problem.
19:43
SPEAKER_00: Let me help.
19:44
SPEAKER_00: He's straight up just a hermit.
19:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
19:46
SPEAKER_01: He's the Goku, he's the monkey hermit, so the turtle hermit.
19:49
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
19:50
SPEAKER_00: Um, my next note was like, what a bully about the tiger.
19:53
SPEAKER_00: Like, tiger's just he's like, oh, you're gonna give me some money?
19:56
SPEAKER_00: I'll take the money and I'll eat you.
19:59
SPEAKER_01: It's like, what the heck, man?
20:02
SPEAKER_01: It's like you you've just you've done like 90% of what Goku wants to punch people for.
20:06
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
20:07
SPEAKER_00: And then also, always we gotta bring this up.
20:10
SPEAKER_00: Every time there's a young girl, Goku go Goku gets them blushing and collects them like infinity stones.
20:16
SPEAKER_00: Because the first thing he does is save the girl and immediately as he catches her, blush, just fully like rosy cheeks.
20:23
SPEAKER_00: Like they just covered it.
20:24
SPEAKER_00: It was like bright red on her Rudolph cheeks, you know.
20:28
SPEAKER_01: It's just what Goku does.
20:29
SPEAKER_01: He might he might not know that they like him, but boy, is he good at getting them alike?
20:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he collects these girls like infinity stones.
20:38
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then you got the you learn about the villagers needing to feed them food and before that, Goku was saying, I hope they have lamb chops, and then like, let's get the lamb chops over here.
20:49
SPEAKER_00: And put the lamb chops next to the rice case.
20:52
SPEAKER_00: The jump cut was great because it's yeah, it's literally like Goku, like, oh I can have whatever I want.
20:57
SPEAKER_00: I hope they have lamb chops.
20:58
SPEAKER_00: Get the lamb chops over there, go, go, go! It was very funny.
21:03
SPEAKER_00: But and then my next my next note, but yeah, we we meet the villagers, we learn what's going on.
21:07
SPEAKER_00: They got these two guys who are like root, you know, messing up.
21:12
SPEAKER_01: They're causing plague and terror.
21:13
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which are also plague and terror.
21:15
SPEAKER_00: We also find out that they literally are causing plague.
21:19
SPEAKER_00: They're causing plague and terror.
21:20
SPEAKER_00: They also have to be named plague and terror.
21:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
21:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but like the thing is like at first you think it's just like metaphorical.
21:27
SPEAKER_00: Like, they're just calling them plague and terror because they're plaguing the town and causing a lot of terror.
21:31
SPEAKER_00: But like, no, literally, like the moment they're defeated, it rains.
21:35
SPEAKER_00: It's like they were holding the rain back, you know.
21:37
SPEAKER_01: Um, but we just point that out when we got there.
21:39
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's like it is funny, like the meta like the the one for one where like as soon as they're captured and like c under control, like the drought ends.
21:49
SPEAKER_01: It's like maybe there's something was happening.
21:51
SPEAKER_00: Maybe there's like some sort of energy they were giving off that was like stopping it.
21:54
SPEAKER_00: Um my next note was that these guys look like they're fully from another anime.
21:58
SPEAKER_00: It looks like they're from like a Um they look like they're from um what's the name of the freaking anime?
22:03
SPEAKER_00: I can never think of it.
22:04
SPEAKER_00: Um, but uh they look like they're from another like eighties anime.
22:07
SPEAKER_00: They just rolled up from like out of a different video.
22:10
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they got the they get they they're from the outsiders.
22:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they were in the they were in another they were in another studio next door and they were just like, Hey, send us two of your guys, we need 'em for this episode.
22:20
SPEAKER_00: It's a crossover event, you know?
22:22
SPEAKER_01: It's like the uh Cowboy Bebop.
22:24
SPEAKER_01: That's what that's like.
22:25
SPEAKER_01: Cowboy Bebop's a good one.
22:26
SPEAKER_01: I was thinking uh I just recently watched it uh Blazing Saddles.
22:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
22:30
SPEAKER_01: It's like the very instant of that, but it's just they just happen to be there instead of like all fighting through the studio.
22:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
22:36
SPEAKER_01: Uh no, spoiler alert if you ever watch Blazing Saddle.
22:39
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
22:40
SPEAKER_00: Um, but they just totally look like they're from another uh anime.
22:44
SPEAKER_00: And that finding out that that I mean, I kind of like got the general gist because I know about the gourd myth from the you know the Japanese and Chinese mythology and stuff, you know.
22:54
SPEAKER_00: Like I knew generally about that.
22:56
SPEAKER_00: I find that to be great because that means we're like we're still showing like the roots of Goku.
23:00
SPEAKER_00: Because Goku is from that.
23:02
SPEAKER_00: Like he's based loosely off of that general con.
23:06
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, off of someone calling from Journey from Journey to the West, you know.
23:09
SPEAKER_00: And these guys being from that too, you know, loosely based, obviously.
23:14
SPEAKER_00: Very loosely based.
23:16
SPEAKER_01: Their their MacGuffin is from that.
23:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and their their characters are like their characterization is generally similar to that, you know.
23:25
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
23:25
SPEAKER_00: Um, we might have to, if we ever do make a Patreon, might have to do a journey to the West read and like review, like, because like I it's something I've always been intrigued upon, and like knowing how influential it it is, like even on these filler episodes, it's influential, you know?
23:42
SPEAKER_01: It's it's there's so much stuff out there that like you don't know how influential influential it is because some some a lot of times like in modern day people get ideas from stuff that was influenced by something that was influenced by an origin by the original thing that was written or created in like the 1300s.
24:02
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
24:02
SPEAKER_01: And because it's gone through so many different iterations, you don't even realize you're influenced by that until someday you might find like a YouTube video or like a tick or like like TikTok or you're scrolling online and someone's talking about this thing, like, oh my goodness, that's where it came from.
24:20
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
24:20
SPEAKER_01: So it it it's great to actually like be able to pinpoint kind of where it happened.
24:24
SPEAKER_01: And there's a there's a chance that we're talking about this, and we come to find out that Journey from the West was influenced uh by some else.
24:30
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
24:32
SPEAKER_00: I know I'm pretty sure the story of it is loosely based on like the Chinese and Japanese mythology.
24:38
SPEAKER_00: So like it was just like trying to make a story out of like a combined story of all the mythology.
24:44
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
24:44
SPEAKER_00: So like even that, you know, that could go back millennia at that point when you're talking about mythology and religious-based stuff, you know.
24:51
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
24:52
SPEAKER_00: Um the rest of my notes are basically just like, man, though this weapon's OP, man, these guys are idiots.
24:58
SPEAKER_00: Uh Goku wins, yay.
25:00
SPEAKER_00: Um, um, so just to go down like plot-based plot to plot points.
25:05
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
25:05
SPEAKER_00: Plot to plot points on these is number one, um, they show up uh Plague and Terror show up to the the village.
25:14
SPEAKER_00: Um they've been throwing a giant feast, but it's not as big as last time, and they're like, Well, yeah, because we don't have as much food.
25:20
SPEAKER_00: And they're like, well, give us your food, and then they're like, well, we'll starve.
25:24
SPEAKER_00: And then while this is going on, Goku and Chao were running around, like running back to the village to be like, um, try to save the day.
25:31
SPEAKER_00: And Chow's like, I used to love running down this, like, this one road because it would be so beautiful with all the flowers and stuff.
25:39
SPEAKER_00: Um, but since Plague and Terror show up, like the whole tree.
25:45
SPEAKER_00: And Goku is mostly just long for the ride.
25:48
SPEAKER_00: Then he gets there and they're doing roll call, and they find out what happens with this gourd.
25:52
SPEAKER_00: If your name is said while the gourd is open and you don't respond fast enough with here, uh the gourd will swallow you up with mist and boil you in the bottom of the water and you're gone forever.
26:06
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but basically you be in the in the English dub you become like a potion to be drunk.
26:10
SPEAKER_01: That gives them your life your life force strength.
26:14
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
26:14
SPEAKER_01: Strength.
26:14
SPEAKER_01: As we noticed in the like factoids That's not exactly how it works in the Japanese in the Japanese dub.
26:21
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
26:21
SPEAKER_01: Like or the Japanese original, I don't know what I said, Japanese dub.
26:24
SPEAKER_01: In the in the Japanese version, they just become alcohol.
26:28
SPEAKER_00: They become like alcohol that might taste the taste yeah, the taste changes, you know.
26:33
SPEAKER_00: Um but uh Goku won't stand for any people being mean to people, so he decides to fight them, kicks their butt, but then gets trapped because he doesn't know exactly how the gourd works.
26:44
SPEAKER_00: Like at nobody's really explained it at that point.
26:47
SPEAKER_01: She explained it to him, I believe.
26:49
SPEAKER_00: But like, like he was too busy in the moment to think about it.
26:52
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he was too focused on fighting.
26:53
SPEAKER_01: And then because he even noted he even says like when he's in there, he's like, this must happen because I didn't say my name, I didn't say here in time, or I didn't respond in time.
27:01
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and so but then Goku's falls in there, but luckily Goku has his powerful item, the power pole.
27:07
SPEAKER_01: He has his power pole, which just he just corks into the top so he doesn't go into the bottom where you get churned into liquid.
27:14
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
27:15
SPEAKER_00: And then he you know has to relieve himself so he uses the restroom, and then that would be a good thing.
27:19
SPEAKER_01: He just so happens, yeah, he just so happens to use the restroom at the perfect time.
27:22
SPEAKER_01: The other dude's like, I bet he's been turned into liquid, or at least like he hears his piss sloshing that he doesn't know it's his piss.
27:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
27:29
SPEAKER_01: And then he opens it, he uncorks it.
27:32
SPEAKER_01: And we learn in there, if you haven't been turned up and they uncork it, you just come straight back out.
27:36
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
27:37
SPEAKER_00: And so Goku jumps out, kicks their butts again, this time doesn't let them have the gourd.
27:41
SPEAKER_01: Actually, he steals the gourd and then starts playing, playing like, I hope you can remember how many times I've said your name.
27:47
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so it's like play plug territory, like just over and over and over again.
27:51
SPEAKER_01: Just gets them gets them by them not saying it one to be one time.
27:55
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
27:55
SPEAKER_00: And so then they get sucked in, but then they get released, and they are now working for the village to like fix all the problems they had or whatever.
28:03
SPEAKER_01: They're basically working off their debt to the village because they're bad people, but they're bad people that Goku has turned good.
28:09
SPEAKER_01: Good adjacent.
28:10
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
28:10
SPEAKER_00: At least like good as far as like they're stuck in like involuntary servitude.
28:14
SPEAKER_01: I should say, I should say that Goku has begun to help serve justice too.
28:20
SPEAKER_01: I guess that's the better way to put it.
28:21
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
28:22
SPEAKER_00: And it rains, and as Goku leaves this village forever, he does see the flower, and he stops and says, Wow, that's real nice, and then runs off.
28:31
SPEAKER_00: And then that that's the end of the first episode.
28:33
SPEAKER_00: And that it was fun.
28:34
SPEAKER_00: I enjoyed it.
28:35
SPEAKER_00: It was it was a good episode, you know.
28:37
SPEAKER_01: It's it was nice to like see Goku have to handle another MacGuffin that he's never seen before.
28:43
SPEAKER_00: That was one thing I put on here was that this weapon is like OP as I'll get out.
28:47
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's a lot of people.
28:47
SPEAKER_00: Like if you don't know what you're dealing with, like if you don't know what the weapon is, this is like a top-tier relic in this universe.
28:53
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
28:54
SPEAKER_00: It's like you could solve so many problems if you just like you know, you know, swallowed the bad guy by cussing.
29:01
SPEAKER_01: I know there I know there's like villains later on, and I'm sure like there might come become like might be like a limit to like how much power the it can contain before it explodes.
29:09
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
29:09
SPEAKER_01: But like it is funny to think, like, I know there's like uh one of the big, big bads, like beers.
29:14
SPEAKER_01: It really wanted to just have Koki have that same beer as he goes into the gourd and then he just drinks them.
29:19
SPEAKER_00: And then yeah, they're just gone forever.
29:22
SPEAKER_00: We solved the problem.
29:23
SPEAKER_01: We solved it in half an episode.
29:25
SPEAKER_01: I wipe my hands with this and please.
29:28
SPEAKER_01: Like, it's like I just like it's just funny to think that, which is probably why the gourd never comes back.
29:33
SPEAKER_01: I'm presuming it never comes back.
29:34
SPEAKER_00: I I is I couldn't.
29:36
SPEAKER_01: Because I can also tell you, I can also tell you without even having to know, if it did come back, that means the village is no longer protected because they don't have the threat of the gourd to keep the guys from terrorizing them again.
29:46
SPEAKER_01: Because they are stronger than anyone in that village, 100%.
29:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
29:49
SPEAKER_00: Um, but that's it for that episode.
29:51
SPEAKER_00: Um, we jump in to the next episode.
29:54
SPEAKER_00: Immediate res is a way I would say of Goku just, you know, doing handstand walks.
30:01
SPEAKER_01: Handstand run.
30:02
SPEAKER_01: Yes.
30:03
SPEAKER_00: On like his fingertips, I think is and then we jump to an old woman, and that old woman is like washing her clothes, but she like lost one.
30:11
SPEAKER_00: She lost a shirt.
30:12
SPEAKER_00: Goku grabs it.
30:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and is like, hey, is this your shirt?
30:15
SPEAKER_00: And she's like, Oh, thank you.
30:16
SPEAKER_01: And he has a conversation like, is there anything like you can point me to the nearest uh person that's strong that I could fight and get experience?
30:22
SPEAKER_01: And she's like, go to the city, and he's like, Where's the city?
30:25
SPEAKER_01: He's like, It's over there.
30:27
SPEAKER_01: Talk, ask for chin.
30:29
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and um this is another one of those.
30:31
SPEAKER_00: Imagine like the normal people in the universe dealing with this.
30:35
SPEAKER_00: Because, like, imagine you're this old lady, you're just watching your clothes, you're like, Oh man, I lost a shirt again.
30:40
SPEAKER_01: And this is like she kind of does it, like, ah, another one got away.
30:44
SPEAKER_00: But then this child with a tail shows up, which I guess he grew the tail between episodes.
30:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
30:49
SPEAKER_00: That's how you can tell there's been some time passed between these two episodes, is that like Goku grew a tail.
30:53
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because surely his tail is gonna be back for the tournament arcs.
30:55
SPEAKER_01: I guess that's a like something we could just imagine.
30:58
SPEAKER_00: And then he uh, you know, he you see this kid doing like handstand runs on one finger.
31:03
SPEAKER_01: Well, technically, I don't think she saw that, because I think he like jumped off jumped off, like he fell off.
31:09
SPEAKER_01: I think he s like as he was doing it, he like slipped off the cliff and then ended up in the ravine.
31:13
SPEAKER_01: So he was above her, so she didn't see that part.
31:15
SPEAKER_01: So she didn't see that, so she didn't have that context.
31:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she sees this child fall into the water from way above and like grab her shirt and be like, Hey, is this yours?
31:23
SPEAKER_00: Oh, by the way, I'm looking for tough people to fight.
31:25
SPEAKER_00: Do you know any tough people?
31:27
SPEAKER_00: And then that's the rest of that's the rest of it.
31:29
SPEAKER_00: It's just like it's just every time that there's like a normal person that interacts with Goku in like a weird way and sees some weird feat of strength, you always gotta bring up I wonder like how much this changed their life.
31:40
SPEAKER_00: Um seeing this small child with a monkey tail fall off of a like a skyscraper amount of space, not be completely unharmed, and be like, hey, you got any tough people?
31:49
SPEAKER_00: Also, here's your shirt, back.
31:51
SPEAKER_00: Here's your shirt.
31:51
SPEAKER_00: Anyways, see ya.
31:52
SPEAKER_01: Thank you for the information.
31:54
SPEAKER_01: And then like he just like martial arts super fast jumps away into the distance.
32:00
SPEAKER_01: She's like, Yeah, that's just an that's that's a story she'll tell her grandkids, like forever.
32:06
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
32:06
SPEAKER_01: She'll have though though no one will ever believe her.
32:09
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
32:09
SPEAKER_00: I ran into a monkey child one day.
32:12
SPEAKER_00: He was he was pretty cool.
32:14
SPEAKER_00: He asked me for directions to the city.
32:16
SPEAKER_00: Okay, granny, let's get you back to bed.
32:20
SPEAKER_01: Like it's like, okay.
32:22
SPEAKER_00: And then we jump to the village and we see that um a small child whose name I immediately lost completely.
32:29
SPEAKER_01: I meant to write it down, like a pull.
32:31
SPEAKER_01: It's like Sor Link.
32:34
SPEAKER_00: Um, but he is being accused by this giant guy called Rising Dragon, we find out later, of stealing his wallet.
32:44
SPEAKER_00: I was gonna go pull it up if that's what you're gonna do.
32:47
SPEAKER_00: Um, but of of stealing his wallet, and he says, Nope, we ain't gonna like I didn't steal your wallet.
32:53
SPEAKER_00: They get into a little bit of a fight, and his dad Chen steps in and wins the fight.
32:58
SPEAKER_00: Shokin.
32:58
SPEAKER_00: Shokin, that is it, yeah, I see it now.
33:00
SPEAKER_00: Um we got there basically at the same time.
33:03
SPEAKER_00: Um but uh Shokan is accused of stealing the wallet, his dad steps in, we find out that Shokin's a little bit headstrong and also quite a bit bratty.
33:12
SPEAKER_01: Um He's bratty and super overconfident.
33:14
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
33:15
SPEAKER_00: Um but Chen beats up the two main guys, but then he's like, as he's about to fight Rising Dragon, he like has a coughing fit.
33:22
SPEAKER_00: He he's dealing with some health issues we find out throughout the episode, and he can't quite he's not as good as he once was, I guess, is what I would say.
33:29
SPEAKER_01: And at that exact time, Goku conveniently fies finds Rising Dragon's wallet lying on the ground.
33:35
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
33:35
SPEAKER_00: And so then Rising Dragon's like, oh, you must have stole my wallet, and Goku's like, no, you could have just like, you know, dropped it.
33:40
SPEAKER_00: He's like, that's too easy of an explanation.
33:43
SPEAKER_00: Fight me.
33:44
SPEAKER_00: And so he tries to punch Goku, and obviously that doesn't work.
33:46
SPEAKER_00: Goku after images and jumps above him.
33:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
33:49
SPEAKER_01: As they're getting ready to go in, uh, Sky Dragon shows up and is like, Stop trying to fight people.
33:54
SPEAKER_01: Like, let's leave.
33:55
SPEAKER_00: You've got your wallet back.
33:57
SPEAKER_00: Let's go.
33:57
SPEAKER_01: No one took your money.
33:59
SPEAKER_01: Get out of here.
33:59
SPEAKER_00: And then Sky Dragon says, like, I'm sorry, and Chin's like apology accepted, and he's like, I'm also gonna say sorry to you, go you, small child.
34:06
SPEAKER_00: Goku's like, I don't know why you're saying sorry to me, you never even touched me.
34:12
SPEAKER_00: He didn't do anything to me, he didn't even hurt me.
34:14
SPEAKER_00: Um and then I I love the tail flowing in the wind that we see.
34:18
SPEAKER_00: Like, there's a scene once they get to Chin's place where he Goku's like, okay, you're Chin, let's fight.
34:24
SPEAKER_00: Um, and it does like the the camera tilt move where it's behind Goku, so you're seeing like from like through like a third-person view of Goku, but like directly behind him, yeah.
34:34
SPEAKER_00: And the tail's just like flowing like a like almost like a you know, like a like a like it's a dog tail wagging because he's excited type of thing.
34:42
SPEAKER_00: Of like, ooh, I get to fight somebody strong today.
34:46
SPEAKER_00: Um, and then they both like get like they do like a jump in like the samurai style where they both like make contact and you don't know who like got hit, and then Chin like collapses with his meta like with his illness.
35:00
SPEAKER_00: Um I hate that he's like dealing with this.
35:03
SPEAKER_00: This is like tough to watch, like you know, these this guy obviously is cool because he literally takes on those two guys like it's nothing.
35:10
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but like this guy obviously is really strong and he's just like happens to been unlucky.
35:19
SPEAKER_01: He's got like TB or something, you know something.
35:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
35:24
SPEAKER_00: And then the um the Shokin uh says, Well, you know, that's kinda how it goes.
35:30
SPEAKER_00: I guess I'm gonna have to, you know, we like what'd you do to my dad, you you meanie, and then Goku offers to go get some medicine, so that he goes to get medicine, he runs into Scarlet.
35:41
SPEAKER_01: He promises not to start to not start a fight.
35:43
SPEAKER_00: Because Chin brings up the whole thing, which is also from the tournament saga the first time, yeah.
35:48
SPEAKER_00: Where it's like, if you fight outside of the tournament, you're both gonna get disqualified.
35:52
SPEAKER_00: So like the king doesn't like it if there's a big scuffle before the fight, because it feels like you're you're taken away from the main.
36:00
SPEAKER_00: And so Goku says, Okay, I won't fight.
36:03
SPEAKER_00: And so he literally refuses to fight Rising Dragon, he just jumps out of the way, and then Rising Dragon says, No one makes a fool out of me, and then immediately goes for like a major swing, flips over and falls on the river, and makes a fool out of himself.
36:17
SPEAKER_00: And then Sky Dragon kicks the crap out of Goku.
36:20
SPEAKER_00: But my interpretation on what happened there was that Goku was allowing that to happen.
36:25
SPEAKER_00: You know, like Goku was allowing him to get some punches in the world.
36:28
SPEAKER_01: Because he knew because Goku was like, I promise not to fight.
36:31
SPEAKER_01: I can't fight, so I just have to like because he was because he never threw a punch at Rising.
36:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
36:36
SPEAKER_01: He just dodged Rising, and Rising being a drunk brute, just fell into the river.
36:40
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
36:41
SPEAKER_00: And Sky Dragon be more of his wits, just like beat the crap out of Goku.
36:45
SPEAKER_01: Because Goku couldn't defend or fight himself.
36:47
SPEAKER_00: Goku Goku could recognize that Sky Dragon is much stronger than Rising Dragon, and also understand that like he can't, yeah.
36:55
SPEAKER_00: He if he to to like get away from Sky Dragon unscathed, he's going to have to get into a fight which breaks his promise, and Goku doesn't break promises.
37:05
SPEAKER_00: So he just takes the beating and he's like, Man, that guy was kind of fast, and that really did kind of hurt, you know.
37:09
SPEAKER_00: But anyways, I got the medicine.
37:11
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
37:11
SPEAKER_00: And so he goes um back, and then we like to give the medicine to Chen, trying to get Chen all what uh working.
37:18
SPEAKER_00: But the medicine doesn't work, we find out, and it's just not gonna be enough.
37:23
SPEAKER_00: So uh Goku offers to fight.
37:27
SPEAKER_01: Chin's child is like, What?
37:29
SPEAKER_01: Let me fight in your stead daddy like no, you'll die.
37:32
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
37:32
SPEAKER_01: Without saying it, Chen's like, no, you're good, you're you're you're nowhere near strong enough.
37:37
SPEAKER_00: You would you would get one punch.
37:39
SPEAKER_00: And then Goku's like, I'll fight, and Chen's like, sold.
37:42
SPEAKER_00: And that really that really makes Shokin mad because Shokin is like, I am your son.
37:48
SPEAKER_00: I've been training with you for my entire life.
37:50
SPEAKER_01: This man has been here for like at most.
37:55
SPEAKER_00: At the absolute most, 24 hours.
37:58
SPEAKER_00: Like, that's the maximum he's been in this villain.
38:01
SPEAKER_01: More like more than likely 12 to 16 hours.
38:03
SPEAKER_01: Like he showed up yesterday, like afternoon, evening, slept the night here, and then went to go get like meds.
38:09
SPEAKER_01: Like, actually went to go get medicine, then slept the night here, and then he was waking up to eat this food or whatever.
38:14
SPEAKER_00: And so then Shokin, you know, getting in, like, getting very upset, decides to uh put some, I'm assuming, laxatives of some sort.
38:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, some sort of laxative or like some sort of like m uh poison, but not like a strong poison to kill, but like enough poison to like be an irritant.
38:33
SPEAKER_00: Just something to get Goku, make Goku sick.
38:35
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
38:35
SPEAKER_01: Which from the effects that we see.
38:38
SPEAKER_00: It seems diarrhea-based.
38:40
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it seems like you you know turn turn the stomach upside down.
38:43
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
38:43
SPEAKER_00: And that's why I bring up like the laxative, is it felt it feels like it's like a poop poop.
38:49
SPEAKER_01: It's a poop, it's a poop thing.
38:50
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
38:51
SPEAKER_00: Um, but before we get to the tournament, we jump poop.
38:54
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
38:55
SPEAKER_00: We jump to Sky Dragon uh and we see that he has been playing martial arts on rookie mode because none of those people in that uh building have been putting.
39:04
SPEAKER_01: Well we all we also learn we also learn before that that like the like Sky Dragon, uh, once Chin started to take off with his business, Sky Dragon basically just intimidated everybody, every one of Chin's students to come to his dojo.
39:18
SPEAKER_01: And then that's where we pick up where like he's just bullying everyone in his dojo.
39:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and he's he's literally playing on easy mode.
39:25
SPEAKER_00: None of these guys still.
39:26
SPEAKER_01: He's like he's like, I won't even use my legs, and then like the next guy he fights, he like jumps super high in the air and just comes down and headbutts him and knocks him out in one hit.
39:34
SPEAKER_00: He's he's not he's not making himself stronger and he's not helping make any of these guys stronger.
39:39
SPEAKER_00: He's literally just using them as his own punching backs.
39:42
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
39:42
SPEAKER_00: Um, which is not the way not the wise way to train because if you're just training to get like if I you know as an example, you know, like if you're gonna go play soccer or a sport and you walk up and you play against some like toddlers, yeah, you're gonna look freaking amazing, then but if you're not gonna get any better because you don't have to to beat toddlers at soccer.
40:05
SPEAKER_00: You know?
40:06
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
40:06
SPEAKER_00: Like it's the same, and and I know it's a little different, but it's the same premise.
40:10
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
40:11
SPEAKER_00: Is that like he's not gonna get any better by just like punking all of these kids.
40:16
SPEAKER_00: He needs like training and purpose and stuff.
40:19
SPEAKER_00: And that we also find out from Goku that like Goku, you know, has a affinity for helping people who are not able to help themselves.
40:26
SPEAKER_00: Um, but also like he doesn't he also wants to help, you know, Chin's dojo, not just Chen like gain is keep his honor, but about like get his dojo back on track.
40:38
SPEAKER_00: And so then we get into the tournament, uh, Goku is fighting a sky dragon, but right as the fight starts, basically, his stomach starts to run.
40:46
SPEAKER_01: Goku, Goku gets the advantage for the first couple little swings and stuff.
40:50
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
40:50
SPEAKER_01: And then his stomach starts to cramp up, and he's like, time he tries to call a timeout, and everyone's like, Boo, keep fighting, whatever.
40:56
SPEAKER_01: And Shokun's like, man, I really thought he'd just give up when he got sick.
40:59
SPEAKER_01: And like, it's because you don't know Goku.
41:01
SPEAKER_00: Goku will Goku tried to fight while hungry, his only weakness.
41:06
SPEAKER_01: Like you die Goku, Goku does not care.
41:09
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
41:10
SPEAKER_00: Um I wrote that that Shokun is a brat, like, often on throughout my notes here.
41:15
SPEAKER_00: I even called him a stupid brat at one point when it actually starts to like hit Goku, it's like, you idiot.
41:20
SPEAKER_01: It's like it's like it's like the moment he starts to realize his mistake, it's the moment like right when Goku takes the advantage early on in the fight against Sky Dragon.
41:29
SPEAKER_01: He's like, oh he's like, oh no.
41:31
SPEAKER_01: Oh no, I've doomed us.
41:33
SPEAKER_00: And his dad and his dad is like, are you okay, man?
41:36
SPEAKER_01: He's like, You got something you want to convince?
41:38
SPEAKER_00: Are you feeling guilty over there?
41:40
SPEAKER_00: Uh you got some guilt you want to bring up?
41:42
SPEAKER_00: But anyways, Goku wins because he's Goku.
41:44
SPEAKER_00: Uh the moral, like the happy conclusion of these episod or that episode is that Sky Dragon joins Chin's Dojo trained.
41:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Sky Dragon benefits Goku.
41:56
SPEAKER_01: He's like, Gang, thank you, Goku, for stopping me from getting my vengeance.
41:59
SPEAKER_01: I don't know if I ever would have lived, live, could have lived with myself if I had like done what I was going to do to him, basically.
42:05
SPEAKER_01: Like, basically implying that like his plan was to publicly execute him on the fighting in the fighting ring.
42:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was it was quite messed up, but luckily Goku was there to stop it.
42:17
SPEAKER_00: And so as Goku leaves, Shokan gives him some jelly donuts, and that's the end of the episode.
42:22
SPEAKER_00: And we move on.
42:24
SPEAKER_00: So, um, going into it.
42:26
SPEAKER_01: I hope people get that reference.
42:27
SPEAKER_01: Like if you watch the s if you watch the episode, it they're they're like rice cakes.
42:32
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
42:32
SPEAKER_01: But we both grew up watching Pokemon.
42:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they're called jelly donuts in Pokemon.
42:36
SPEAKER_01: Because for every reason they didn't think that kid American kids in the 90s would have been like what could have figured out what a rice cake was.
42:43
SPEAKER_00: And they would look at it and be like, wow, that doesn't look good.
42:47
SPEAKER_00: Even though, like, even if you didn't tell me it was a donut, I would have thought that would look yummy.
42:51
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like it's it's animated food.
42:54
SPEAKER_01: Like, as long as you don't put in like maggots on it, never gonna think it's fine.
42:58
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
42:58
SPEAKER_00: Um, so jumping in your predictions, Jesse.
43:01
SPEAKER_00: You said Goku goes to a new village with a person doing bad things.
43:05
SPEAKER_00: That does happen twice.
43:07
SPEAKER_00: Twice.
43:07
SPEAKER_00: Uh, but the person doing bad things is a sky dragon, and Goku wins.
43:11
SPEAKER_00: That happens once.
43:14
SPEAKER_00: So I don't know how we do that.
43:16
SPEAKER_00: What about Plague and Terror?
43:16
SPEAKER_00: I think I'd that's a plague of terror.
43:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that the first one was that like there's a person in the village doing a bad thing.
43:21
SPEAKER_00: So that was Plague and Terror, but you thought that these two episodes were going to be connected like a two-parter.
43:27
SPEAKER_00: So, like, when you were going through it, you thought these two episodes were going to connect, I guess it should be continued.
43:32
SPEAKER_00: So, like, the plague and terror was what Sky Dragon was doing, and then in the second episode, Goku beat Sky Dragon was what you thought was going to happen.
43:40
SPEAKER_00: Which is like, you know, both of these on premise alone happened.
43:44
SPEAKER_00: But they did not happen in the way you intended for it to be.
43:47
SPEAKER_01: Technically the prediction was wrong, but actually the prediction was right.
43:50
SPEAKER_01: And that purely comes from my thought process of it had been a really long time since we'd seen just like this type of what off.
44:00
SPEAKER_01: Story.
44:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
44:00
SPEAKER_01: So I think even when he finds Oolong, it's like a two episode.
44:03
SPEAKER_01: No, it's Oolong is just one episode.
44:05
SPEAKER_01: But I can't remember.
44:06
SPEAKER_00: I mean, Oolong continues for a couple episodes dealing with him.
44:09
SPEAKER_00: But like the episode where they fight Oolong is in the video is literally just one episode, and then he joins the party.
44:16
SPEAKER_01: I guess that's where my confusion goes.
44:18
SPEAKER_01: Oolong Oolong's like a really crappy person for like five to ten episodes.
44:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
44:24
SPEAKER_00: Alright.
44:25
SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna go ahead and say you got those predictions, even though they in print like in in the wording, you got it.
44:32
SPEAKER_00: In the thought behind it, you were a little off.
44:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
44:35
SPEAKER_00: But um, then jumping into our next three episodes, because that's right, we got three episodes left until the end of this saga.
44:42
SPEAKER_00: So we are going to do a three-parter.
44:44
SPEAKER_00: And the the next three episodes are called Goku Goes to Demon Land, the Rampage of Eno Shikacho, and Which Way to Papaya Island.
44:54
SPEAKER_00: I think it's Papaya, it could be Papaya.
44:56
SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's what's it?
44:57
SPEAKER_00: Papaya Island.
44:58
SPEAKER_01: I mean, what's it spelled like?
44:59
SPEAKER_00: Uh P-A-P-A-Y-A.
45:02
SPEAKER_00: Papaya.
45:03
SPEAKER_01: I think that's what I think that's how the fruit is spelled.
45:05
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
45:05
SPEAKER_01: It's probably Papaya Island.
45:06
SPEAKER_00: Alright, so Goku goes to Demon Land, the rampage of Eno Shikacho, and which way to Papaya Island?
45:13
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
45:15
SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, I think Demon Land's pretty obvious.
45:18
SPEAKER_01: Goku goes to Demon Land.
45:19
SPEAKER_00: Goku is gonna go to a Demon Land.
45:22
SPEAKER_01: I think that's pretty self-explanatory on that one.
45:24
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
45:25
SPEAKER_01: Um and then we've got uh What was the other two?
45:33
SPEAKER_00: Uh the Rampage of Eno Shikacho.
45:35
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, obviously Enochikacho rampages.
45:38
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
45:39
SPEAKER_00: Eno Shika Shikacho rampages.
45:48
SPEAKER_00: And then which way to Papaya Island, Jesse?
45:50
SPEAKER_01: Maggie gets directed to Papaya Island.
45:55
SPEAKER_00: You you're you you're like, I'm not getting burned again.
46:00
SPEAKER_01: These episode names have been very old to know.
46:03
SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be funny.
46:04
SPEAKER_01: Is like he's not gonna burn.
46:06
SPEAKER_00: This is actually a three-part mini saga where he like starts out going to Demon Land, has to fight the demon Eno Shikacho, and then at the end he's like, How do I get out of here?
46:15
SPEAKER_00: How do we go to Papaya Island?
46:17
SPEAKER_01: I don't go to Papaya Island, that's where the tournament arc is.
46:19
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
46:20
SPEAKER_00: Just the most like crazy, the craziest thing to have happened there.
46:24
SPEAKER_00: Um, so Jesse, uh, let's get into it.
46:27
SPEAKER_00: Um, since we got the predictions out of the way for this next bit, what was your worst part?
46:33
SPEAKER_01: Um honestly, none of these parts like really sucked a whole lot.
46:38
SPEAKER_01: I guess my my worst part would just be like Shokan just constantly being an annoying brat the entire time.
46:46
SPEAKER_00: That was gonna be mine.
46:48
SPEAKER_00: Alright, I was ready to throw that guy out into the moon.
46:52
SPEAKER_00: Well, no, I don't know the moon.
46:53
SPEAKER_00: The moon's gone.
46:54
SPEAKER_00: Into the sun, I guess.
46:55
SPEAKER_00: I thought that was a little bit harsh, but I mean he's going into the sun because there's no moon anymore.
46:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
46:59
SPEAKER_00: Um that kid was bugging the crap out of me.
47:03
SPEAKER_00: I guess the I guess with that, the the fact that these are both anime exclusive and are completely skippable will have to be my worst part, but also it could also be my best part because it's my favorite type of episode.
47:14
SPEAKER_00: Completely skippable filler beach type episodes are some of my favorites.
47:19
SPEAKER_01: Like he's it's a nice, it's nice filler.
47:21
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
47:22
SPEAKER_00: Like, and that's what I gotta I gotta throw a note out there for it, and there's nothing else in these episodes that harm me viscerally outside of Shokin, because screw that kid.
47:32
SPEAKER_00: I hope he never finds love.
47:34
SPEAKER_00: I hope he dies alone.
47:35
SPEAKER_00: I I hope he never learns the errors of his ways, and is by the end of his life, is the co he sees Chin at the end of his life like coming down and says, You disgraced me, son, and that's how he goes.
47:48
SPEAKER_00: That is my wish for Shoken.
47:51
SPEAKER_01: I don't think that's gonna happen.
47:52
SPEAKER_00: I don't, but that's my wish.
47:54
SPEAKER_00: Anyways, Jesse, best part.
47:56
SPEAKER_00: Oh sorry.
47:58
SPEAKER_00: You're good.
48:01
SPEAKER_01: Um best part has to be the way Goku as much as I think.
48:09
SPEAKER_01: The P joke.
48:10
SPEAKER_01: It's the P jok.
48:11
SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
48:11
SPEAKER_01: The piss junk is really funny to me.
48:13
SPEAKER_01: Like that, like as it's happening, I'm like, is Goku really gonna be like as it was happening, I thought it was going like he was gonna like bottoms up and drink the piss, and then Goku was gonna escape.
48:23
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
48:24
SPEAKER_01: But like it the way it worked out, I'm like, that's actually really funny that like he gets out because you just happened to piss a lot in the bottom of the bottle.
48:32
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
48:33
SPEAKER_01: My board, I guess I should say.
48:34
SPEAKER_00: My best part is also the part that was my worst part.
48:38
SPEAKER_00: And is that these episodes are completely skippable, slice of life episodes, and I love them.
48:43
SPEAKER_00: I had to put it as the worst part because I couldn't think of anything else that was worse.
48:47
SPEAKER_00: This is also my best part, is that the the the framing of these episodes is just one random day in the Goku world, you know.
48:53
SPEAKER_01: It's a very two-faced coin.
48:54
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
48:55
SPEAKER_00: Um, but that's kind of all we got for today.
48:58
SPEAKER_00: So thank you guys for watching.
49:00
SPEAKER_00: I hope you guys can uh you know download, subscribe, rate review, um, leave us a five star rating.

49:21
SPEAKER_00: And the journey continues.
49:24
SPEAKER_00: Bye.
