- 0:12Hello friends. It's shown here and I am
- 0:15delighted that you have joined me for day three of these.
- 0:20Three days of God, setting out the blueprints, for what it
- 0:23looks like to be his people. And then tomorrow, we get to
- 0:27hear how the nation of Israel responds to God.
- 0:31But today we get the last of the series of God forming, this
- 0:36nation, forming, these people. Well, they're not even a nation
- 0:39yet, are they forming them into a nation with an understanding
- 0:42of what their society looks like and what it looks like to live
- 0:46together. So, join me as we read the final
- 0:50part of God, laying out his Covenant for his people to
- 0:55respond to. But for today, let's read
- 0:58together. Exodus chapter 23.
- 1:13You must not pass along false rumors, you must not cooperate
- 1:17with evil people by lying on the witness stand.
- 1:21You must not follow the crowd in doing wrong when you are called
- 1:25to testify in a dispute. Do not be swayed by the crowd to
- 1:28twist Justice and do not slide. Your testimony in favor of a
- 1:32person. Just because that person is poor
- 1:36if you come across your enemies, ox or donkey.
- 1:39That is straight away. Take it back to its owner.
- 1:41Owner, if you see that the donkey of someone who hates, you
- 1:45has collapsed under its load, do not walk by instead, stop and
- 1:50help. In a lawsuit, you must not deny
- 1:54Justice to the poor. Be sure.
- 1:57Never to charge anyone falsely with evil never sentence, an
- 2:01innocent or blameless person to death.
- 2:04For I never declare a guilty person to be innocent take no
- 2:09bribes for a bribe. Makes you ignore something that
- 2:12you clearly see. A bribe makes even a righteous
- 2:15person, twist the truth. You must not oppress foreigners.
- 2:20You know what it's like to be a foreigner for you yourselves
- 2:23were once foreigners in the land of Egypt, plan and harvest your
- 2:28crops for six years. But let the land be renewed and
- 2:32lie uncultivated during the 7th year.
- 2:35Then let the poor among you harvest, whatever grows on its
- 2:38own. Leave the rest for wild animals
- 2:41to eat the same applies to your Vineyards and Olive Groves.
- 2:46You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but on the
- 2:50seventh day, you must stop working.
- 2:53This gives your ox and your donkey a chance to rest, it also
- 2:57allows your slaves in the foreigners living among you to
- 3:00be refreshed, pay close attention to all my
- 3:03instructions. You not call on the name of any
- 3:07other gods, do not even speak their names.
- 3:12Each year, you must Celebrate Three festivals in my honor.
- 3:15First celebrate, the Festival of unleavened bread.
- 3:19For seven days, the bread you eat must be made without yeast.
- 3:22Just as I commanded, you celebrate.
- 3:25This Festival annually at the appointed time in early spring
- 3:29in the month of abib for. That is the anniversary of your
- 3:32departure from Egypt. No one may appear before me
- 3:36without an offering. Second celebrate, the Festival
- 3:40of harvest when you bring Me, the first crops of your Harvest.
- 3:44Finally, celebrate the Festival of the final Harvest at the end
- 3:48of the harvest season. When you have harvested, all the
- 3:51crops from the fields at these three times each year.
- 3:55Every man in Israel must appear before The Sovereign the Lord,
- 4:00you must not offer the blood of my sacrificial offerings
- 4:03together with any baked goods, containing yeast and do not
- 4:07leave the fat from the festival offerings until the next
- 4:09morning. As you harvest, your crops,
- 4:12bring the very best of your first harvest to the house of
- 4:16the Lord. Your God, you must not cook a
- 4:18young goat in its mother's milk. See, I am sending an angel
- 4:24before you to protect, you on your journey and lead, you
- 4:27safely to the place, I have prepared for.
- 4:29You pay close attention to him and obey his instructions.
- 4:34Do not rebel against him for, he is my representative and he will
- 4:39not forgive your Rebellion, but if you are careful to obey him
- 4:43following all my instructions, then I will be an enemy to your
- 4:49enemies. And I will oppose those who
- 4:51oppose you For my angel, will go before you and bring you into
- 4:55the land of the amorites, Hittites, perizzites Canaanites,
- 5:00hivites, and jebusites. So, you may live there and I
- 5:05will destroy them completely. You must not worship the gods of
- 5:09these nations or serve them in, anyway, or imitate their evil
- 5:13practices. Instead, you must utterly
- 5:16destroy them and smash their sacred pillars.
- 5:20You must serve only the Lord your God.
- 5:23If you do, I will bless you with food and water and I will
- 5:28protect you from illness. There will be no miscarriages or
- 5:31infertility in your land and I will give you long full lives.
- 5:36I will send my Terror ahead of you and create Panic among all
- 5:40the people whose lands you invade.
- 5:43I will make all your enemies turn and run.
- 5:46I will send Terror ahead of you to drive out the hivites.
- 5:50Canaanites and Hittites, But I will not drive them out in a
- 5:54single year because the land would become desolate and the
- 5:58wild animals would multiply, and threaten you?
- 6:01I will drive them out a little at a time until your population
- 6:04has increased enough to take possession of the land and I
- 6:08will fix your boundaries from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean
- 6:12Sea. And from the Eastern Wilderness
- 6:14to the Euphrates River, I will hand over to you.
- 6:18The people now living in the land and you will drive them.
- 6:22I'm out ahead of you, make no treaties with them or their
- 6:26gods. They must not live in your land
- 6:29or they will cause you to sin against me.
- 6:32If you serve their gods, you will be caught in the Trap of
- 6:36idolatry. Lord.
- 6:47We see. So clearly in this that you are
- 6:51an organized God, you are a God, who creates Beautiful Life,
- 6:54Giving structure around us. You even don't want the promised
- 6:59land to be overrun by the brambles and the the wild pigs
- 7:04if there are wild pigs in that part of the world.
- 7:06But you want it to remain just so so that it can be a gift to
- 7:11your people. Thank you, that you have
- 7:18fulfilled, all of this and giving us Jesus.
- 7:23And that. Now all you ask of us is to come
- 7:25before you with faith in Jesus. Thank you for this Covenant that
- 7:30you give us. We love you and we worship you
- 7:35and we are able to do all of this because of that mighty name
- 7:39of Jesus who you gave for us. That's in his name that we pray.
- 7:45Amen. That's in his name that we pray.
- 7:45Amen.
