Latest / Dad’s Bedtime Stories / Quantum and the 3D Printed Starship - Quantum #5 - A Sci-Fi Sleep Story for Kids
Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Hello, friends from across the nation and around the world.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I'm Martin, and you are listening to Dad's Bedtime Stories.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Tonight we're headed back into the Quantum Computer universe because
- 0:17Speaker 1: I got a few ideas for it on my Google form.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Tonight's episode comes to us from Asher, who wanted an
- 0:25Speaker 1: episode where you continue to build up the underground base
- 0:30Speaker 1: and build a spaceship. I think that's a great idea, Asher,
- 0:35Speaker 1: So that's exactly what we're going to do today. If
- 0:38Speaker 1: you have an idea for the Quantum Computer universe or
- 0:42Speaker 1: any other universe, I love getting your ideas, even if
- 0:46Speaker 1: I can't make all of them. You can record them
- 0:49Speaker 1: on speak pipe, leaving your own voice, which I can
- 0:51Speaker 1: play on the podcast, or you can fill out the
- 0:55Speaker 1: Google form, or you can just email me at Bedtime
- 1:01Speaker 1: Stories at gmail dot com. If you've never listened to
- 1:06Speaker 1: any episodes of the Quantum series, I think there's only
- 1:09Speaker 1: four before this. I did a little compilation episode in
- 1:12Speaker 1: another one. If you want to get caught up, or
- 1:15Speaker 1: you really just have to understand, you're a kid who
- 1:17Speaker 1: found a quantum computer that helps you build things using
- 1:20Speaker 1: a three D printer. So now you're like going around
- 1:23Speaker 1: collecting garbage to turn into new material, and yeah, it's
- 1:27Speaker 1: pretty fun. Before we start, I just want to give
- 1:31Speaker 1: a big shout out to my newest Patreon sponsors, Jessica
- 1:35Speaker 1: and Valerie. I reached out to both of you via
- 1:39Speaker 1: messages to see if there's anyone else you wanted me
- 1:41Speaker 1: to shout out, so just let me know. As many
- 1:45Speaker 1: of you have probably heard before, making this podcast and
- 1:49Speaker 1: keeping it going does take a pretty significant amount of effort,
- 1:54Speaker 1: so I really appreciate any donations going to the show.
- 1:58Speaker 1: It helps us keep the lights on around here. And
- 2:01Speaker 1: the other thing that helps us keep lights on around
- 2:03Speaker 1: here are advertisements. Now, I don't love having a ton
- 2:08Speaker 1: of advertisements, and I never never will play one during
- 2:12Speaker 1: the story or after the story here on Dad's Bedtime Stories,
- 2:17Speaker 1: but we do have to fit in a few beforehand
- 2:20Speaker 1: to make that work. Now it's time to close your eyes,
- 2:25Speaker 1: get as comfy as you can in that bed, and
- 2:28Speaker 1: imagine yourself doing what the kid in the story does.
- 2:34Speaker 1: As a quick recap from the last episode, you basically
- 2:39Speaker 1: woke up to discover an underground base under your bed,
- 2:43Speaker 1: and then Quantum sent you on a mission to collect garbage,
- 2:47Speaker 1: clean up the ocean with a sort of self replicating
- 2:52Speaker 1: garbage clean up fleet in the ocean. And yeah, that's
- 2:56Speaker 1: where we left off. Also, I want you to remember
- 3:00Speaker 1: that you are the main character. So I try to
- 3:03Speaker 1: write these stories so you can fill in the blanks
- 3:05Speaker 1: with your own imagination. And that's exactly where we're going
- 3:09Speaker 1: to start today. Imagine yourself waking up in your very
- 3:15Speaker 1: own bed. For a moment, everything feels normal, your room's quiet,
- 3:23Speaker 1: sun's peeking in through the curtains, and then you remember Quantum,
- 3:30Speaker 1: the underground base, the ocean clean up fleet, the hover coppter,
- 3:37Speaker 1: the giant secret hatch under your room. You sit up quickly.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Good morning, Quantum says from your wrist. You lift your
- 3:49Speaker 1: arm and see Quantum's little smiling face glowing on the
- 3:53Speaker 1: watch screen. Good morning, You say, anything new happening while
- 3:58Speaker 1: I was sleeping? Of course, Quantum replies, several thousand things. Oh,
- 4:05Speaker 1: you say, that sounds like a lot of things. It was.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I have prepared a progress report, but I suspect you
- 4:13Speaker 1: would rather see it for yourself. You grin and look
- 4:18Speaker 1: toward the little red button on your nightstand. It's still
- 4:22Speaker 1: sitting there waiting for you. You climb out of bed
- 4:27Speaker 1: and press it for a second. Nothing happens. Then your
- 4:32Speaker 1: bed begins to slide sideways across the floor with a smooth,
- 4:37Speaker 1: sort of mechanical hum. The metal hatch underneath it appears
- 4:43Speaker 1: glowing faintly blue around the edges. You grab the handle,
- 4:48Speaker 1: pull the hatch open, and look down at the shiny
- 4:51Speaker 1: metal slide curving into blue light below. You sit down,
- 4:56Speaker 1: push off, and immediately shoot downward. The slide twists around
- 5:02Speaker 1: a glowing tunnel, curving left right, then dropping sharply enough
- 5:07Speaker 1: to make your stomach jump. Blue lights blur past you.
- 5:13Speaker 1: The smooth metal beneath you hum softly, and eventually you
- 5:18Speaker 1: shoot out the bottom and come to a gradual stop
- 5:21Speaker 1: in the middle of the underground base. Only now the
- 5:26Speaker 1: base looks different. Before it was huge and mostly empty,
- 5:32Speaker 1: but now it's filled in. The walls are still dark
- 5:37Speaker 1: metal with glowing blue lines running through them, but there's
- 5:41Speaker 1: different sections everywhere. A line of hover copters rests along
- 5:47Speaker 1: one side of the launch bay, each one silver gray
- 5:52Speaker 1: with blue white energy rings. Helper bots float around them,
- 5:57Speaker 1: polishing panels, checking tang welding things together. On the other
- 6:04Speaker 1: side of the base is a kitchen area with shiny counters, cabinets,
- 6:10Speaker 1: and well a fridge beside it is a living room,
- 6:15Speaker 1: a real living room. There's a large, soft looking couch,
- 6:21Speaker 1: a table, and an enormous entertainment screen that covers most
- 6:26Speaker 1: of the wall. The screen is so clear it looks
- 6:30Speaker 1: less like a screen and more like a window into
- 6:33Speaker 1: another world. You built a living room, you ask, Yes,
- 6:40Speaker 1: you are spending more time in the base. I determined
- 6:43Speaker 1: that you might appreciate the comfort. That's probably true, you say,
- 6:49Speaker 1: walking towards the couch and entertainment. This quantum television receives
- 6:56Speaker 1: programs from all quantum realities. You stop walking. Ohit all
- 7:03Speaker 1: quantum realities, Yes, every possible universe that is close enough
- 7:09Speaker 1: to tune in. That sounds weird, Oh it is. Obviously
- 7:16Speaker 1: you have to turn it on. You pick up a
- 7:18Speaker 1: remote sitting on the table and press the power button.
- 7:23Speaker 1: It's obviously the power button because it's a large red button.
- 7:27Speaker 1: The screen lights up, showing what looks like a traditional
- 7:31Speaker 1: sitcom living room, except everyone in it looks like they're
- 7:36Speaker 1: half person and half technology. A man that looks like
- 7:43Speaker 1: he has a toaster built into his chest for some reason,
- 7:47Speaker 1: begins to speak Honey, I accidentally downloaded the neighbor again.
- 7:54Speaker 1: The audience laughs. A woman with wheels instead of feet
- 7:59Speaker 1: rolls into the living room and says, not again, Carrie.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Last time he got stuck in the dishwasher dimension. The
- 8:08Speaker 1: audience laughs even harder. You just stare at the screen. Quantum,
- 8:16Speaker 1: what is this? It appears to be a comedy program
- 8:21Speaker 1: from a reality where humans and technology have merged together,
- 8:26Speaker 1: though they have retained bad television writing. This is terrible,
- 8:31Speaker 1: you say, yes, however, there are channels from all different realities.
- 8:38Speaker 1: There is certainly something good on there. All right, Well,
- 8:43Speaker 1: maybe I'll check that out later, you say, turning off
- 8:46Speaker 1: the TV and putting down the remote. You walk further
- 8:50Speaker 1: into the base, still amazed by everything. The giant printer
- 8:55Speaker 1: is even larger than it was before. There are stored rooms,
- 9:00Speaker 1: nail robot docking stations, what look like vehicle bays, a
- 9:06Speaker 1: large circular empty area in the middle of the base
- 9:10Speaker 1: that looks very important, though you're not sure why, so
- 9:15Speaker 1: you ask what happened with the ocean cleanup fleet. Quantum's
- 9:19Speaker 1: face appears not only on your watch, but also on
- 9:23Speaker 1: the giant screen mounted to the wall. The screen changes
- 9:27Speaker 1: to a map of Earth with glowing dots spread across
- 9:30Speaker 1: the Pacific Ocean. The ocean cleanup fleet has been largely successful,
- 9:36Speaker 1: Quantum says. The mother sub has continued self replication. It
- 9:41Speaker 1: has printed additional collectible submersibles, floating debris skimmers, river mouth interceptors,
- 9:49Speaker 1: and transport drones. The operation is expanding at a sustainable rate.
- 9:55Speaker 1: That's amazing. So it's just cleaning the ocean by itsself.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Heal now, correct, of course, with supervision. I am still
- 10:04Speaker 1: monitoring it. The seagulls remain suspicious. It's understandable, you say,
- 10:11Speaker 1: we did spray them with water that low pressure. Still
- 10:16Speaker 1: though they probably didn't appreciate that. Quantum Screen returns to
- 10:21Speaker 1: his smiling face. Now he says, what would you like
- 10:25Speaker 1: to build next? Oh? What are the choices? You ask? Well,
- 10:32Speaker 1: since I am programmed with knowledge from almost every quantum reality,
- 10:37Speaker 1: I should be able to create anything. You can think
- 10:40Speaker 1: of anything, you say, pretty much, even like a spaceship,
- 10:49Speaker 1: like a real one that can traveled different planets and
- 10:53Speaker 1: things like that. Quantum is silent for almost a whole second.
- 10:59Speaker 1: That is an excellent choice. The giant screen changes again.
- 11:04Speaker 1: A glowing blue print appears in the air. Above the floor,
- 11:09Speaker 1: lines of light form the outline of a ship. At first,
- 11:13Speaker 1: it's small and simple, and then Quantum keeps adding details.
- 11:18Speaker 1: The ship grows longer and sleeker. A cockpit forms at
- 11:23Speaker 1: the front, A rear fabrication chamber appears, storage tanks lock,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and a place along the sides. Engines glow at the back.
- 11:33Speaker 1: A living room or living quarter area forms in the middle.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Then the whole design spins slowly in the air on
- 11:42Speaker 1: the computer screen. You stare up at it with your
- 11:45Speaker 1: mouth open. That, Quantum says, is a compact interplanetary and
- 11:52Speaker 1: limited interstellar exploration vessel. It uses anti gravity engines within
- 11:58Speaker 1: the Solar system and can create a warp field to
- 12:02Speaker 1: travel to other soldier systems. That's incredible, thank you. This
- 12:09Speaker 1: ship will contain built in accommodations, a high capacity three
- 12:13Speaker 1: D printer, a de atomizer, energy storage systems, repair drones,
- 12:18Speaker 1: matter collection tools, and long range navigation, as well as
- 12:23Speaker 1: some defensive capabilities in case we run into aggressive alien
- 12:29Speaker 1: species so we can actually go to space. Yes, you
- 12:37Speaker 1: look at the glowing ship design. Can you build it? Yes,
- 12:43Speaker 1: Quantum says, but it will be matter heavy. Oh, of course,
- 12:49Speaker 1: it will require a large variety of materials, including precious metals,
- 12:55Speaker 1: rare earth elements, conductive materials, advanced ceramic plastics, carbon structures,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and energy storage materials. Technically, I can reorganize atoms into
- 13:09Speaker 1: different materials, but doing so requires additional energy and time.
- 13:15Speaker 1: It is more efficient to begin with a large variety
- 13:19Speaker 1: of matter, so we need more garbage, correct preferably useful garbage.
- 13:27Speaker 1: The screen changes to show several locations. There are many
- 13:32Speaker 1: nearby sources, Quantum explains. Electronic waste deposits contain precious metals
- 13:38Speaker 1: and circuitry. Battery graveyards contain lithium, nickel, cobalt, copper, and
- 13:44Speaker 1: other useful materials. Old landfill sites contain mixed matter and
- 13:50Speaker 1: in some cases leach unpleasant substances into the groundwater. We
- 13:56Speaker 1: can both build a spaceship and clean up the planet.
- 14:01Speaker 1: You make a face at the thought of the groundwater. Gross, yes,
- 14:08Speaker 1: but useful, and on the plus side, no one is
- 14:13Speaker 1: likely to miss any of it. What about the Ocean
- 14:17Speaker 1: cleanup fleet? Couldn't we just use the matter from that?
- 14:20Speaker 1: We could, Quantum says, But the fleet is currently self
- 14:25Speaker 1: replicating and expanding. If we take matter from it now,
- 14:29Speaker 1: we slow down the cleanup operation. I believe it is
- 14:33Speaker 1: better to let it continue. That makes sense, you say,
- 14:38Speaker 1: all right, battery graveyard first, I guess excellent choice. One
- 14:44Speaker 1: of the hover copters powers up in the launch bay
- 14:47Speaker 1: and slides over to the side. Its side hatch folds open.
- 14:54Speaker 1: You climb inside and sit in the pilot's seat. The
- 14:58Speaker 1: controls glow life around you. Quantum's face appears on the
- 15:03Speaker 1: screen in front of you. The huge launch hatch opens
- 15:08Speaker 1: above the base and sunlight pours in. You pull up
- 15:13Speaker 1: on the hover lever, and the hover copter rises smoothly
- 15:17Speaker 1: into the air, lifting out of the underground base and
- 15:21Speaker 1: up into the yard. You take it higher and higher
- 15:25Speaker 1: as the hatch closes beneath you, hiding the base again
- 15:29Speaker 1: as if it was never there. Once you're high enough,
- 15:34Speaker 1: you shift into flight mode. The steering wheel folds out,
- 15:39Speaker 1: the engines hum louder. You place one hand on the wheel,
- 15:44Speaker 1: one hand on the throttle, and you push forward. The
- 15:49Speaker 1: hover copter blasts ahead. A sonic boom cracks behind you.
- 15:54Speaker 1: As the world blurs beneath your window. You soar over forests, rivers, roads, fields,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and towns, following the little glowing path on the navigation screen.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Before long, dark smoke appears in the distance. Uh, Quantum,
- 16:15Speaker 1: I see it, he says. Thermal scans indicate a battery
- 16:20Speaker 1: fire at the facility. The fire is spreading toward the
- 16:24Speaker 1: nearby forest. You grip the controls tighter as the smoke
- 16:28Speaker 1: grows larger. Below you see a huge yard filled with
- 16:33Speaker 1: old batteries, containers, broken equipment, and storage piles. Flames roar
- 16:40Speaker 1: from one section. Bright flashes pop inside the smoke as
- 16:44Speaker 1: more batteries ignite. You pull back on the throttle and
- 16:48Speaker 1: switch to hover mode once again. Beyond the facility is
- 16:54Speaker 1: a thick green forest, and the fire is moving towards it.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Can we stop that? Yes? Scanning forest now. A display
- 17:06Speaker 1: appears on the screen showing outlines of animals moving along
- 17:10Speaker 1: the trees. There are deer, foxes, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, birds, frogs, snakes, insects,
- 17:18Speaker 1: and several nesting areas within the risk zone. Quantum says,
- 17:23Speaker 1: if the fire reaches the forest, many animals will be displaced,
- 17:28Speaker 1: some may not survive. You feel your stomach, Titan, Then
- 17:34Speaker 1: we have to stop it, agreed, Quantum continues. Luckily, the
- 17:40Speaker 1: hover copter includes several emergency systems I have not yet explained,
- 17:45Speaker 1: such as such as a freeze ray. A freeze ray
- 17:52Speaker 1: you say yes, adapted from designs collected from highly advanced
- 17:57Speaker 1: quantum versions of Earth. The freeze ray can instantly lower
- 18:02Speaker 1: the temperature of anything it hits, making it much more
- 18:06Speaker 1: effective than water, particularly on a battery fire. Would you
- 18:12Speaker 1: like me to activate it now? Yeah? You respond? A
- 18:18Speaker 1: panel opens beside your seat and a joystick rises out
- 18:22Speaker 1: of it. The screen changes to a sort of aiming
- 18:26Speaker 1: display with glowing hash marks and a bright blue crosshair.
- 18:32Speaker 1: It looks like it's showing a view directly from the
- 18:35Speaker 1: freeze ray. Use the joystick to aim, quantum says, and
- 18:40Speaker 1: the trigger to fire. You grab the joystick and guide
- 18:45Speaker 1: the crosshairs towards the edge of the forest, between the
- 18:49Speaker 1: trees and the approaching flames. Fire When ready, You pull
- 18:55Speaker 1: the trigger and a brilliant blue light blasts from the
- 18:59Speaker 1: front of the hover copter. It hits the ground with
- 19:03Speaker 1: a flash of sort of icy mist. The ground freezes
- 19:09Speaker 1: and frost begins to spread across the grass and dirt,
- 19:14Speaker 1: rising up into a thick wall of ice. Whoa excellent
- 19:21Speaker 1: continue You guide the beam carefully sweeping it along the
- 19:27Speaker 1: edge of the forest. Ice bursts up wherever the beam touches.
- 19:33Speaker 1: You create a sort of shiny, frozen barrier between the
- 19:37Speaker 1: fire and the trees. Then you shift your aim to
- 19:41Speaker 1: the fire itself. As the beam hits it, it almost
- 19:45Speaker 1: instantly stops. You move the beam back and forth across
- 19:51Speaker 1: the ground, across ball of the ground that's currently on fire,
- 19:56Speaker 1: until the fire is completely out. I believe the forest
- 20:02Speaker 1: has been protected. Now we should deal with the battery
- 20:06Speaker 1: piles before they continue to burn. More fires may start. Uh,
- 20:13Speaker 1: how do we do that? You ask, the same way
- 20:17Speaker 1: we do everything, We absorb them. You turn the hover
- 20:22Speaker 1: copter towards the burning battery yard, hover just above, and
- 20:28Speaker 1: flick the button to activate the suction device. The atom vacuum,
- 20:35Speaker 1: or whatever you call it. A cone of energy shoots downward.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Broken batteries, melted casings, wires, metal scraps, and all sorts
- 20:46Speaker 1: of other debris begins to rise into the beam. As
- 20:51Speaker 1: it rises, it transforms into energy and gets sucked into
- 20:57Speaker 1: the bottom of the ship. You start with the section
- 21:02Speaker 1: of the yard that was on fire, and once that's
- 21:05Speaker 1: taken care of, you move to other parts of the
- 21:09Speaker 1: yard as well. Congratulations, Quantum says you have performed very well.
- 21:17Speaker 1: The chance of future battery fires has been greatly diminished,
- 21:22Speaker 1: at least for the time being, and I believe your
- 21:25Speaker 1: animal friends will be safe. Oh good, well, it looks
- 21:32Speaker 1: like the tanks are already half full. Uh where to next?
- 21:37Speaker 1: The next closest destination is a nearby landfill. It was
- 21:42Speaker 1: previously used for humans to dump their garbage into a
- 21:46Speaker 1: giant pile before being abandoned. However, the garbage continues to
- 21:53Speaker 1: decay and large amounts are leeching into the ground, contaminating
- 21:59Speaker 1: ground in the nearby town. That doesn't sound good. No,
- 22:05Speaker 1: it is in fact quite gross. The substance is called
- 22:09Speaker 1: leech eight and it is not ideal. Can we clean
- 22:14Speaker 1: it up? Absolutely? As the next destination appears on the screen,
- 22:20Speaker 1: you activate flight mode and blast forward at incredible speed.
- 22:27Speaker 1: You once again shift to hover mode and activate the
- 22:31Speaker 1: collector again. A beam begins to pull up old garbage
- 22:37Speaker 1: from the dump below, breaking it down and absorbing it
- 22:42Speaker 1: into the energy tanks. Drones release themselves from the hover
- 22:48Speaker 1: copter as well and begin collecting their own little tiny
- 22:53Speaker 1: piles of garbage and ceiling contaminated patches. You built in
- 23:00Speaker 1: many robots into the hover copter. You ask, of course,
- 23:06Speaker 1: is there anything you didn't build into the hover copter?
- 23:09Speaker 1: You ask, yes, there are many millions of things that
- 23:13Speaker 1: I did not build into the hover copter. Ok, Okay, yeah,
- 23:19Speaker 1: obviously it was kind of more of a figure's speech.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Material capacity reached, Quantum says, we should return to base.
- 23:29Speaker 1: You lift into the sky, switch back to flight mode,
- 23:34Speaker 1: and push the throttle forward. The hover copter booms through
- 23:38Speaker 1: the air, once again, racing back over the landscape towards
- 23:43Speaker 1: your home. When you reach a more familiar environment, you
- 23:48Speaker 1: shift the thing back into hover mode, aim at right
- 23:52Speaker 1: over the giant patch of ground beside your house, and
- 23:57Speaker 1: begin to lower it down. As a hatch in the
- 24:00Speaker 1: yard opens up, You carefully lower the hover copter into
- 24:06Speaker 1: the underground base and land gently in the launch bay. Immediately,
- 24:12Speaker 1: helper robots swarm the craft. They detach the glowing tanks
- 24:17Speaker 1: and carry them to the giant printer. Quantum's main screen
- 24:22Speaker 1: lights up. Golden energy flows through transparent tubes and into
- 24:27Speaker 1: the fabrication system. Then the printer begins. It prints huge
- 24:34Speaker 1: curved panels first, then beams, then engine parts, then well
- 24:40Speaker 1: glass that looks like it's probably for the cockpit, then
- 24:43Speaker 1: storage tanks, doors, walls, wires, chairs, control panels, and strange
- 24:49Speaker 1: glowing pieces that you have no idea what they'refore. Helper
- 24:54Speaker 1: robots grab each piece as soon as it's finished and
- 24:58Speaker 1: fly it to the open circular area in the middle
- 25:01Speaker 1: of the base. Soon, the spaceship begins to take place
- 25:07Speaker 1: right there in your underground base. You watch for a
- 25:12Speaker 1: while before getting a little bit bored, so instead you
- 25:17Speaker 1: sit down on the couch and turn on the Quantum TV.
- 25:22Speaker 1: At first, the strange sitcom with the half human half
- 25:26Speaker 1: robot people appears, but you begin to flip the channel
- 25:32Speaker 1: to all sorts of different programs. Some seem completely alien
- 25:38Speaker 1: in others well, others look like they were probably made
- 25:42Speaker 1: on your own Earth. You sit on the couch, watching,
- 25:47Speaker 1: laughing and generally being entertained while the helper robots assemble
- 25:52Speaker 1: your ship, until eventually Quantum speaks from the wall screen
- 25:58Speaker 1: the starship is complete. You jump off the couch. It's done. Yes,
- 26:05Speaker 1: would you like to see it? Obviously? You run across
- 26:11Speaker 1: the base. The ship stands in the center of the
- 26:14Speaker 1: launch bay, sleek and silver with glowing blue lines along
- 26:19Speaker 1: its side. It's not enormous, but it's pretty big. The
- 26:24Speaker 1: rear hatch opens, you walk over and step inside. The
- 26:30Speaker 1: first room you enter is a sort of building and
- 26:33Speaker 1: storage area. A smaller copy of a three D printer
- 26:37Speaker 1: sits against one wall, connected to storage tanks and a deatomizer.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Tools are locked neatly into place. Helper bots line the
- 26:47Speaker 1: walls and docking stations, and they're small open areas for
- 26:52Speaker 1: well future projects. This area allows us to build parts,
- 26:58Speaker 1: repair damage, and ibricate equipment while traveling, Quantum explains. A
- 27:04Speaker 1: door opens and you step into the next area. It's
- 27:09Speaker 1: the living quarters. There are bunk beds built into the wall,
- 27:14Speaker 1: a little couch, a tiny kitchen area, storage cabinets, and
- 27:19Speaker 1: another Quantum TV. It sort of looks like the inside
- 27:23Speaker 1: of a futuristic RV. You put a Quantum TV in
- 27:28Speaker 1: the spaceship two. Of course, long voyages can be boring
- 27:34Speaker 1: fair enough. Finally, you enter the last door, the control area,
- 27:41Speaker 1: or the cockpit. It has two seats, a wide front window,
- 27:47Speaker 1: glowing control panels, and a center console. Quantum's face appears
- 27:52Speaker 1: on the main screen. I have transferred control to the
- 27:56Speaker 1: ship's computer. He says. The controls are similar or to
- 28:00Speaker 1: the hover copter. However, the ship also includes advanced autopilot.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Spaceflight can become uneventful over long distances. You mean it
- 28:11Speaker 1: can get boring, Yes, extremely boring, flying straight through empty
- 28:17Speaker 1: space for days upon days. You sit in the pilot seat.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Would you like to take it for a test spin?
- 28:27Speaker 1: Quantum masks, yes, you say. The launch hatch above the
- 28:33Speaker 1: base begins to open, the same one used for the
- 28:38Speaker 1: hover copters, only it sort of feels like there's barely
- 28:42Speaker 1: enough room to make it through. You pull up on
- 28:47Speaker 1: the hover control and the Quantum Starship lifts smoothly out
- 28:52Speaker 1: of the base. It rises through the hatch, up past
- 28:56Speaker 1: your house and into open air. As the hatch closes
- 28:59Speaker 1: below Oh, then you press the button and enter flight mode.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Only this time you pull back on the steering wheel
- 29:10Speaker 1: and aim straight up. As you press forward on the throttle,
- 29:15Speaker 1: the ship blasts upward. The ground drops away beneath it
- 29:20Speaker 1: as clouds rush past. The sky starts to turn darker
- 29:25Speaker 1: and darker, Quantum explains calmly as the ship climbs. We
- 29:31Speaker 1: are primarily using anti gravity flight. This allows us to
- 29:35Speaker 1: move without relying on traditional rocket propulsion inside the atmosphere. Good,
- 29:43Speaker 1: you say, because rockets seem kind of wasteful. The blue
- 29:49Speaker 1: sky fades into black. Stars appear, and then you're in space.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Earth curves below you, glowing blue and white and beautiful.
- 30:03Speaker 1: For a moment, you're just in awe. Quantum, we're actually
- 30:10Speaker 1: in space, Yes, Quantum says, we are. You stare down
- 30:17Speaker 1: at the planet somewhere below, our motions being cleaned by
- 30:22Speaker 1: your fleet, forests that didn't burn down because you helped them.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Oh what now, you ask, I suggest testing the matter
- 30:33Speaker 1: gathering system on an asteroid. A map appears, showing a
- 30:38Speaker 1: glowing path toward the asteroid belt. Let's do it, you say.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Quantum engages long range flight, and the ship surges forward,
- 30:49Speaker 1: even faster than it did before. Earth shrinks behind you.
- 30:54Speaker 1: The Moon slides past in the distance. You pass Mars
- 30:58Speaker 1: as a rusty red world glowing against the black, and
- 31:02Speaker 1: then ahead, countless rocks appear in space the asteroid belt.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Quantum highlights one asteroid on the screen, targets selected, many
- 31:16Speaker 1: precious metals present. Begin attachment protocol. You slow the ship
- 31:23Speaker 1: and carefully guide it toward the spinning rock. Hash Marks
- 31:28Speaker 1: appear on the screen, helping you line up with the
- 31:31Speaker 1: surface easy, Quantum says, we must match rotation speed and
- 31:38Speaker 1: engage clamps. You follow his instruction. The ship turns gently,
- 31:44Speaker 1: matching the asteroids spin. As you press the clamp button,
- 31:49Speaker 1: there's a deep metallic thunk, and the ship is suddenly
- 31:53Speaker 1: pulled straight down and attaches itself to the asteroid. We
- 31:59Speaker 1: are success fully attached, Quantum says. The front of the
- 32:03Speaker 1: ship opens up. A gigantic needle like device extends from
- 32:09Speaker 1: the nose of the ship, then pushes forward slowly and
- 32:14Speaker 1: lunges itself into the asteroid. The asteroid lights up with
- 32:19Speaker 1: glowing blue lines spread from the point of contact. Matter
- 32:24Speaker 1: gathering device engaged, Quantum says. The ship powers up as
- 32:32Speaker 1: storage tanks in the back begin to fill. You watch
- 32:36Speaker 1: the display climb higher and higher as the ship gathers
- 32:39Speaker 1: useful materials from inside the asteroid metals, mineral stone, and
- 32:46Speaker 1: well elements that will help you build things you haven't
- 32:50Speaker 1: even imagined yet. This is incredible, you say, Yes, Quantum says,
- 32:57Speaker 1: asteroids are highly useful. Also, people do not complain when
- 33:02Speaker 1: they go missing. The tanks reach full capacity, test successful,
- 33:09Speaker 1: Quantum announces. Prepare for detach with another sort of metallic thunk.
- 33:18Speaker 1: The ship detaches from the asteroid and you pull it
- 33:21Speaker 1: up and out of the area. Autopilot engages and guides
- 33:27Speaker 1: you home across the dark, star filled space. Soon Earth
- 33:33Speaker 1: glows large again. You descend through the atmosphere, surrounded by
- 33:39Speaker 1: a soft glow as the ship's shielding protects you. Clouds
- 33:44Speaker 1: rush past. Your home appears on the navigation map. The
- 33:49Speaker 1: giant hatch opens beside your house. You lower the starship
- 33:54Speaker 1: carefully into the underground base as the hatch closes above you,
- 34:00Speaker 1: hiding the sky. The ship lands with a soft hiss,
- 34:05Speaker 1: and you climb out, very tired, but in the best
- 34:10Speaker 1: possible way. I think that was a big enough day.
- 34:16Speaker 1: You say, time for bed. You walk to the new
- 34:22Speaker 1: living quarters inside the base, where Quantum is already prepared
- 34:26Speaker 1: a bed for you. It's built into the wall, but
- 34:29Speaker 1: it looks very soft and cozy. You climb inside and
- 34:35Speaker 1: pull the covers up over top of yourself. The base
- 34:39Speaker 1: hums quietly around you. Helper robots move gently in the distance,
- 34:46Speaker 1: and somewhere near by, your new starship rests in the
- 34:51Speaker 1: launch bay, full of asteroid matter and ready to build
- 34:57Speaker 1: whatever comes next good night, Quantum. You say good night,
- 35:04Speaker 1: Quantum answers. Tomorrow the universe will be ours to explore.
- 35:11Speaker 1: You close your eyes. With each breath, your body feels
- 35:17Speaker 1: heavier and softer, your arms relax, your legs sink into
- 35:24Speaker 1: the bed, and your thoughts begin to drift off to
- 35:30Speaker 1: dreams of new adventures, new planets, and new things to build.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Good Night, everyone in New yor.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Union, No no thing, no.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Mo m
- 48:00Speaker 2: One one mo
