New Mexico Investigators Still Waiting for Epstein Records (7/13/26) · The Epstein Chronicles

Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to head back
• 0:07
down to New Mexico and get an update on the
• 0:10
battle between the state of New Mexico and the federal
• 0:14
government over Epstein files that are in the possession of
• 0:18
the DOJ that New Mexico has subpoenaed, and Attorney General
• 0:25
Rabul Torres is saying that the DOJ doesn't want to
• 0:29
play ball. And now this is building on what we
• 0:32
talked about previously about how the DOJ didn't want to
• 0:36
turn these documents over and how they were dragging their feet.
• 0:41
And I think it's also worthy to note that Pam
• 0:44
Bondi was fired two days roughly two days after the
• 0:50
DOJ agreed to turn over this documentation to New Mexico.
• 0:54
So is that part of why Pam Bondi was fired.
• 0:57
I don't know, maybe, but one thing's for damn sure.
• 1:02
The DOJ is not interested in turning this information over
• 1:06
to New Mexico. So today we have an article from
• 1:09
the International Business Times and the headline Trump administration accused
• 1:14
by New Mexico of blocking crucial Jeffrey Epstein ranch files.
• 1:19
This article was authored by Christelle May not Pisa, New
• 1:24
Mexico's top prosecutor says the Trump administration is running out
• 1:28
the clock on justice for Jeffrey Epstein's victims. Attorney General
• 1:33
Rabul Torres published a letter on July ninth accusing the
• 1:38
US Department of Justice of stonewalling Estate's criminal investigation into
• 1:41
Epstein's or O Ranch. The letter, sent to Acting Attorney
• 1:45
General Todd Blanche and date of June thirtieth, twenty twenty six,
• 1:49
says more than one hundred and thirty days have passed
• 1:52
since New Mexico first requested on redactive records. The Justice
• 1:57
Department disputes the characterization, saying it's ready to help, then
• 2:03
what are you waiting for? If you're so ready to help,
• 2:06
why don't you just help everything they say, the messaging
• 2:10
that comes out of the DOJ, it doesn't match with
• 2:13
the reality on the ground. They talk all this nonsense
• 2:17
and none of it lines up, none of it pans out,
• 2:21
and it turns into nothing more than another hustle. Torres
• 2:25
letter states plainly that access to the requested records has
• 2:28
not been granted, no substantive response has been provided, and
• 2:31
more than one hundred and thirty days have now elapsed
• 2:34
since the NM DOJ's initial request. He calls that delay
• 2:39
unreasonable under any rule of reason. And I agree. If
• 2:43
the DOJ is so transparent and they're so interested in transparency,
• 2:48
well here's an idea start being transparent. But that seems
• 2:52
to be a little bit too difficult for them, so
• 2:56
much so that we had to have a frickin' law
• 2:58
put on the books to make them comply. Does that
• 3:02
sound like the most transparent administration or DOJ in history.
• 3:07
His office reopened the Zoro Ranch investigation in February twenty
• 3:10
twenty six after federal authorities released a batch of Epstein
• 3:13
related files. Some of those documents concerned the ranch, which
• 3:17
Epstein owned in Santa Fe County from nineteen ninety three
• 3:21
until his death in twenty nineteen, and where he is
• 3:24
alleged to have hosted trafficking victims. Yeah, there's no allegations
• 3:29
that's what happened. It's not if it happened. It's to
• 3:33
what extent and how many people were abused and how
• 3:36
many people in New Mexico knew. That's really the question
• 3:39
at this point. If we want to bring people to account,
• 3:44
and we want people to be held responsible for whatever
• 3:47
roles they may have played. Then that's what you go after,
• 3:51
who knew, who enabled it, and who looked the other
• 3:54
way for personal gain. According to Torre's letter, published and
• 4:00
full by the New Mexico Department of Justice, heavily redacted
• 4:04
open source records already established that multiple survivors were brought
• 4:08
to Zoro Ranch on numerous occasions where they were subjected
• 4:12
to sexual abuse and exploitation. He says the unredacted versions
• 4:17
in federal custody hold the names of survivors, witnesses, co conspirators,
• 4:23
and other individuals that New Mexico investigators need to build
• 4:27
a case and not all fits. I just have a
• 4:32
hard time believing that the DOJ would be a roadblocker
• 4:37
unless they have something to hide or unless they're protecting somebody.
• 4:43
But that would never happen, right, That's just a big
• 4:46
old conspiracy theory. New Mexico's probe is not new. Then
• 4:52
Attorney General Hector of Balderis attempted to investigate Zoro Ranch
• 4:56
in twenty nineteen, only for federal prosecutors in the Southern
• 5:00
District of New York to ask the state to stand
• 5:03
down while they pursued their own case against Epstein, which
• 5:08
is just bs. There should have been concurrent investigations going
• 5:13
on in these states, people like mister Baldaris. He owed
• 5:18
that to the residence of New Mexico. Right, I'm gonna
• 5:22
punt and let the Feds take care of this. What
• 5:25
there's allegations of a trafficking ring down in Stanley, New Mexico,
• 5:30
and you're punting to the feds. Here's an idea. Why
• 5:34
don't you treat those accusations and those rumors the same
• 5:37
way you would if somebody was selling drugs, you know,
• 5:40
show up to their house with the tank and rip
• 5:42
the wall off. Yeah, same kind of shit. Epstein died
• 5:45
in federal custody weeks later, and the case against him
• 5:48
was never completed. Torres letter argues that the outcome left
• 5:52
New Mexico survivors without accountability, stating that the investigation was
• 5:57
effectively suspended by a federal request into the thought nineteen,
• 6:01
Its files were released to federal authorities, and its survivors
• 6:05
were left without an accounting of what occurred in New Mexico.
• 6:09
All by design. Unfortunately, that's why they focus so much
• 6:15
on the island. They don't want you talking about what
• 6:17
happened in Zoro Ranch. They don't want you talking about
• 6:20
New Mexico. So focus on the island, focus on Manhattan,
• 6:24
because if people focused on what happened to New Mexico,
• 6:28
I'm not sure that these people could survive that as
• 6:31
far as you know, politically speaking or professionally. Now, as
• 6:38
far as justice goes, we'd have to have a DOJ
• 6:40
that actually gave a damn. But I think there's plenty
• 6:43
of evidence of what was going on in New Mexico.
• 6:47
He warns that the current delay is compounding that original harm.
• 6:51
Every day that the USDJ withholds these records, the foundation
• 6:55
upon which a New Mexico prosecution could be built, e
• 6:58
Roades Torresroote, adding that witnesses relocate and become unreachable, and
• 7:04
physical and documentary evidence to grades is lost or is
• 7:08
rendered more difficult to authenticate with the passage of time.
• 7:12
And those are always the fears when you're dealing with
• 7:16
an investigation that sprawls for years, right, an expansive investigation
• 7:21
that has been going on for decades. A lot of
• 7:24
the players, a lot of the people, they're going to
• 7:26
get older, they're going to pass away, documents are going
• 7:29
to be lost, whether on purpose or quote unquote an accident,
• 7:35
and that's always been the goal to exhaust this case
• 7:40
into oblivion. The stakes were sharpened by a twenty nineteen
• 7:45
FBI tip described in the released Epstein Files, in which
• 7:49
an informant offered a conservative talk show host what he
• 7:52
described as video evidence of abuse and the location of
• 7:56
remains believed buried on the property for the price of
• 8:00
one bitcoin. And look, like I've told you from the beginning,
• 8:03
be very very cautious about what you believe. Now, I'm
• 8:07
not saying discount anything, but there's a difference between evidence
• 8:11
and proof, and there's a difference with what we can
• 8:16
prove and what we know. So I would suggest being
• 8:20
very very cautious of disinformation because the Epstein Files was
• 8:24
seated with it. And the whole entire idea was to
• 8:27
get people saying that, oh, look, this is so ridiculous.
• 8:30
Everything else has to be ridiculous too. That was the point,
• 8:35
and unfortunately it was pretty damn effective. I mean, how
• 8:39
many people clung onto the most salacious parts right away,
• 8:43
trying to you know, drive those points home with no evidence,
• 8:48
and when you're talking about the things we're talking about here.
• 8:51
You better have some evidence, right because if not, forget it.
• 8:55
At least as far as I'm concerned, the days of
• 8:58
trust me bro are long over. The Justice Department disputes
• 9:02
Torres's account. A Department spokesperson told CNN the agency substantively
• 9:07
responded last month to requests from New Mexico Attorney General's office,
• 9:12
adding that the Department welcomes New Mexico undertaking additional investigation
• 9:17
of the Zoro Ranch and stands ready to provide necessary
• 9:20
assistance with New Mexico's investigation. The spokesperson said that should
• 9:24
that investigation uncover potential federal crimes, the DOJ will work
• 9:29
closely with our law enforcement partners to investigate and, as appropriate, prosecute.
• 9:35
Oh yeah, we're all very confident in that the DOJ
• 9:38
is going to investigate itself. Boys and girls, everybody can
• 9:41
rest easy. Torres letter documents ex separate outreach attempts to
• 9:47
federal officials, including a formal records request filed on February thirteenth,
• 9:52
and an effort to arrange an in person meeting during
• 9:55
a visit to Washington. According to CNN's review of the correspondence,
• 10:01
Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin, ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee,
• 10:06
has separately complained that lawmakers permitted to view unredacted files
• 10:10
were made to do so on Department owned computers inside
• 10:13
of a doj NX while staff looked on. Well, look,
• 10:17
there's a lot of classified material. But I think that
• 10:21
these congressmen and senators they should have some kind of
• 10:24
privacy while they're looking at this stuff. You mean to
• 10:27
tell me we need a dj goon hanging over their shoulder.
• 10:33
The dispute unfolds against the backdrop of the Epstein Files
• 10:36
Transparency Act, which Trump signed after initially opposing the release
• 10:40
of the files, and which require the Department to publish
• 10:43
its Epstein records within thirty days with minimal reactions. Legislators
• 10:49
have since questioned whether the Department fully complied, given that
• 10:53
the bulk of the files were not published until late
• 10:56
January and many arrived heavily redacted. Torres letter states his
• 11:01
office will treat the Record's request as denied if it
• 11:03
goes unanswered by the end of July, raising the prospect
• 11:07
of a state court subpoena. Whether the records arrive on
• 11:10
time or not. New Mexico says the survivors of Zoro
• 11:13
Ranch cannot afford to wait much longer. Look, I agree, man,
• 11:18
enough is enough, and at some point the DOJ has
• 11:21
to get called out on their bullshit. Now. I don't
• 11:24
know when that's gonna happen, obviously, considering who's in charge,
• 11:28
but at some point the bill's gonna come due, and
• 11:31
the only question is who's gonna pay it. All right, folks,
• 11:36
that's gonna do it for this one, But I have
• 11:38
no fear. Plenty more is certainly on the way, including
• 11:42
a recap of what went down at the Tyler Robinson
• 11:45
preliminary hearing and where things currently stand in the state's
• 11:49
case against Tyler Robinson. All the information that goes with
• 11:54
this episode can be found in the description box.
