- 0:11Speaker 1: Okay, I have a dilemma. What is it?
- 0:12Speaker 2: It's lunchtime and I don't have any food in my fridge.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Let's go get good, Let's go get g y G baby,
- 0:20Speaker 3: mex exactly what I wanted.
- 0:22Speaker 1: That's exactly what I wanted. Dilemmas are back, Baby, dilemmas
- 0:25Speaker 1: are back. Thanks everyone for tuning in. Let's jump into
- 0:28Speaker 1: the episode.
- 0:29Speaker 2: All right, don't want to go first? Yeah, Hey guys,
- 0:31Speaker 2: I'm nineteen and I'm from the UK and I've been
- 0:34Speaker 2: talking to this guy for around three years and I
- 0:37Speaker 2: really love talking to him and he tells me he
- 0:40Speaker 2: does as well. I could really picture him being in
- 0:43Speaker 2: my life in a more than friendship way. But the
- 0:47Speaker 2: problem is he's Canadian. I don't know what to do
- 0:50Speaker 2: as I absolutely love talking and facetiming him, but if
- 0:54Speaker 2: it's not realistic for us to even meet anytime soon,
- 0:58Speaker 2: should I just lay off the situation?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Please?
- 1:00Speaker 2: Any advice you have I do appreciate from the UK.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I'm just looking for a little guidance from another person's perspective.
- 1:08Speaker 1: So she's the UK, he's Canada. I love listen. Some
- 1:12Speaker 1: of our listeners are so sweet. I mean, I'm trying
- 1:15Speaker 1: to three years of talking. I reckon, how long is
- 1:20Speaker 1: the flight from UK can? I was just gonna say,
- 1:22Speaker 1: go buy a fly it works out? This is three
- 1:24Speaker 1: years is too long to not try? No, not at
- 1:26Speaker 1: all delusional or not. And I don't give a fuck.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I say give it a crack.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and then and then if it doesn't work out,
- 1:32Speaker 2: it doesn't work out, and you'll come home and.
- 1:34Speaker 1: You'll know, Yeah, you'll know.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I would say, it's the simplest answer, but you need
- 1:38Speaker 1: to know, especially after it's three years.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Surely three years of talking to someone and you're genuinely thinking,
- 1:44Speaker 2: like I want to start a long term relationship with
- 1:46Speaker 2: them through the phone is like enough for you to
- 1:48Speaker 2: buy a ticket to go see them.
- 1:50Speaker 1: What's with? Though? So my answer is the same as Jakes,
- 1:53Speaker 1: go buy a flight and find out what's with? You
- 1:56Speaker 1: know that shows on Netflix like Catfishes and people who
- 1:59Speaker 1: Talk Forever, Like, how does that happen? How do people
- 2:01Speaker 1: get so emotionally investive with someone who doesn't exist? Well,
- 2:04Speaker 1: they think they exist, yeah, but how does someone portray
- 2:07Speaker 1: themselves as like this beautiful person when they're like, surely
- 2:10Speaker 1: they FaceTime and every night or something like they always
- 2:13Speaker 1: think of a way to not. They always think of
- 2:15Speaker 1: a way to not. But my immediate thought is make
- 2:18Speaker 1: sure he's real.
- 2:18Speaker 2: But that show Catfish is like a yeah, they they
- 2:23Speaker 2: target the right person. They target a lonely person. That's
- 2:26Speaker 2: what they do.
- 2:27Speaker 1: No, there was one I saw one on Netflix. Really
- 2:29Speaker 1: it was this star quarterback. He made a documentary about it.
- 2:33Speaker 1: But you never know. He could have been a lonely guy.
- 2:36Speaker 1: But he got catfish by like some random girl. But
- 2:39Speaker 1: he got and they were talking for like months and
- 2:41Speaker 1: months a month and he was posting stuff on social
- 2:43Speaker 1: media saying he was taken and they've ever met.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Wow, some people just get manipulated a fucking gas lip
- 2:51Speaker 2: into anything.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So make sure he's real. Buy a flight, go on
- 2:55Speaker 1: there and find out, have some bang as sex and
- 2:59Speaker 1: remember maybe not and it's not good sex.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah. Do you remember ages ago, years ago? You were
- 3:05Speaker 2: still living here. It was so long ago, and we
- 3:10Speaker 2: had the podcast. It was in that corner, but it was.
- 3:11Speaker 1: The old Cara. Yeah, And I had matched.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I was single matchurally go on Tinder, and I think
- 3:17Speaker 2: there was like two dates where she canceled.
- 3:19Speaker 1: One we rescheduled to cancel, another one rescheduled I do
- 3:22Speaker 1: remember she was a flight attendant.
- 3:23Speaker 2: She's a flight attendant, so I remember, I remember. I
- 3:26Speaker 2: think after the second day cancer, I was just like,
- 3:28Speaker 2: fuck it.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I mean, I'm gonna give up. I don't give a
- 3:30Speaker 1: fuck now. But do you reckon? She was cat fish?
- 3:34Speaker 1: Maybe never FaceTime never? We just all we did was planned.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Like I got, I got, I went straight to text.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I should have gone straight to Instagram.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Which I didn't do. Maybe that's the thing photos, and
- 3:45Speaker 1: maybe that's it. That's why Snapchat is good to be fair,
- 3:47Speaker 1: even though younger people like you get a vibe.
- 3:50Speaker 3: It's I think Snapchat's for Okay, we're in this weird
- 3:55Speaker 3: error us three in our generation that we're all you.
- 4:00Speaker 1: You communicate through Snapchat. That's such an ick.
- 4:03Speaker 2: You go two years older than us, Joanna, that's all
- 4:06Speaker 2: she uses, all right, That's all her and her friends use,
- 4:08Speaker 2: really all right, A couple of years younger than us, that's.
- 4:10Speaker 3: All they fucking use for some reason, wearing this weird
- 4:13Speaker 3: generation of like you. That's such an dick. Yeah, we're
- 4:15Speaker 3: like trying to be cooling.
- 4:17Speaker 1: We're always trying to be cool.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I don't know, fucking hell, Like, if you don't know
- 4:21Speaker 2: I message me, you're a fucking loser.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Oh shit, Yeah, I think that would find out girl.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Yeah do it? You w with to yourself. Next dilemma.
- 4:34Speaker 1: This one's short and simple, but it's a relatable dilemma.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I'm a first year in university studying Bachelor of Health
- 4:40Speaker 1: and Physical Education. However, it's a long drive to Woollongong
- 4:44Speaker 1: with early mornings and late nights. I need help in
- 4:46Speaker 1: deciding what I should do, if I should quit or
- 4:48Speaker 1: hold on and push through. I've been told for most
- 4:51Speaker 1: of my life I should be a teacher. I love
- 4:53Speaker 1: to put others first in achieving their goals, but I
- 4:56Speaker 1: don't think I have the mental capacity to keep going
- 4:58Speaker 1: for four years, considering I'm only four weeks in and
- 5:00Speaker 1: feel burnt out. Love the pod, thanks heaps. Fuck So
- 5:04Speaker 1: she was in Sydney Sydney to Wollongong. Was that like
- 5:07Speaker 1: the same as us? I think it is like an
- 5:09Speaker 1: hour and a half. We're three hours to woo Sydney
- 5:13Speaker 1: to Wollongong, same as US to Sydney.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Oh right, right right, and I'm gonna say it's probably
- 5:18Speaker 2: an hour and a half.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Yeah, like with traffic and stuff. Yeah, this always happens though,
- 5:22Speaker 1: Like people are like, you're such a good teacher, you'd
- 5:24Speaker 1: be such a good like chippy.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I remember growing up I wanted to be a fireman
- 5:29Speaker 2: because my mom would always say you'd make such a
- 5:30Speaker 2: good fireman. Yeah, And I was like, well, I want
- 5:32Speaker 2: to be a fireman. And then when I came here,
- 5:34Speaker 2: I remember just like saying I want to do my
- 5:35Speaker 2: dad did.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Yeah, And the first question she should ask herself is
- 5:38Speaker 1: are you doing that because people who are saying you'll
- 5:40Speaker 1: be a good teacher or is it because you actually
- 5:43Speaker 1: want to be a teacher. Yeah? Are you people pleasing Yeah? Yeah,
- 5:45Speaker 1: yeah exactly, like I would be good at people would
- 5:48Speaker 1: say good at other jobs, and I'm like i don't
- 5:49Speaker 1: want to do that. Fuck no, Like I'm sure I
- 5:51Speaker 1: could be a beast barrista, but.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Like you know, and like yeah, everyone says to me, like,
- 5:55Speaker 2: you know, you can make more money, Like it's not
- 5:57Speaker 2: everyone only like grandparents also like you you can make
- 6:00Speaker 2: more money and doing carpentry than what you're doing now.
- 6:02Speaker 1: And I'm just like, yeah, but I fucking hated life. Yeah,
- 6:06Speaker 1: I hate grandparents hate. I was going to do a trend,
- 6:08Speaker 1: like what you say to your grandparents and they say, like,
- 6:10Speaker 1: no boyfriend yet or no girlfriend yet, I don't know,
- 6:12Speaker 1: dig a hole, you're going there soon. They bought the
- 6:15Speaker 1: house like seven thousand. Yeah, they saved for a year
- 6:19Speaker 1: and they pat it off. Thanks grandma. But it's so annoying.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I see all these inflation things of like the average
- 6:27Speaker 2: income and then how much more a house costs than
- 6:29Speaker 2: the income there. So it was like back in the day,
- 6:31Speaker 2: a house was four times your income and now it's
- 6:34Speaker 2: like twenty times.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Oh, they went up way further than wages. Oh, it's ridiculous.
- 6:38Speaker 1: It's clearly impossible for us to buy house. Yeah. Fuck,
- 6:41Speaker 1: it's gonna be. It's scary. But so that's the first
- 6:44Speaker 1: question you got to ask yourself is do you actually
- 6:46Speaker 1: want to be a teacher? At second one, personally, I
- 6:52Speaker 1: I really tried to go to university, you did, I
- 6:54Speaker 1: really tried. I went a lot of times, went too
- 6:57Speaker 1: through architecture. I went another time for I was in
- 7:00Speaker 1: physiology and I gave exos physiology a proper crack. I
- 7:03Speaker 1: was there for about two months and it just wasn't
- 7:06Speaker 1: for me. Sucks, Like, yeah, like it just wasn't for me.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Like everyone says, like go to university and you have
- 7:11Speaker 1: a good life blah blah blah blah blah lah. And
- 7:13Speaker 1: I was sitting in class and I was thinking to myself.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I was like, this is like, so I feel like
- 7:17Speaker 1: I'm wasting my time being here, Like I know, life
- 7:21Speaker 1: short And I was just sitting in class with all
- 7:22Speaker 1: these people around me. I'm like, I don't feel like
- 7:24Speaker 1: I belong here.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah, which acts a plumber? And you do, you're doing
- 7:29Speaker 2: like the university grade of plumbing to become like a
- 7:31Speaker 2: proper licence plumber.
- 7:32Speaker 1: How many days a week?
- 7:33Speaker 2: Is it?
- 7:33Speaker 1: One day a week? But that's shortened down, but yeah,
- 7:38Speaker 1: for two years. And that's kind of like almost difference
- 7:42Speaker 1: with his is he's still making decent money right now.
- 7:44Speaker 1: She didn't as an apprentice, but he still makes all up.
- 7:47Speaker 2: It's like five six years okay, yeah, yeah, so it's
- 7:51Speaker 2: a little bit different, but still it's like wouldn't be
- 7:52Speaker 2: he knows he likes plumbing though, yeah, he likes playing
- 7:55Speaker 2: with shit.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a hard thing to ask yourself because university,
- 7:59Speaker 1: she's assumed she's young, and they say, go to this
- 8:01Speaker 1: degree to do a job that you don't even know
- 8:03Speaker 1: if you like at least with an apprenticeship, you can
- 8:05Speaker 1: do like what's it call you did in school? You
- 8:06Speaker 1: did like you do it in school. Apprenticeship, Yeah, no,
- 8:09Speaker 1: you did. Like a traineeship you would go work with
- 8:10Speaker 1: a plumber for like a month, or work experience, work experience. Yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 1: you don't really do that with any university degree. No
- 8:16Speaker 1: fuck no. That's one of our friends is a bit
- 8:18Speaker 1: lost at the moment, and I was saying to him,
- 8:20Speaker 1: like he wants to do something in the social media page,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and I was like, literally, just go to all these
- 8:24Speaker 1: agencies and I would even know. It's hard of a teacher, though.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I was going to say, go to these agencies and
- 8:29Speaker 1: like can I shadow you for a week? Can I
- 8:31Speaker 1: just be your into, Can I get your coffee for
- 8:32Speaker 1: a week? Someone's gonna say, yeah, yes, I did it.
- 8:35Speaker 1: In when I was doing my apprenticeship, I realized I
- 8:37Speaker 1: hated it, and I was like, maybe I'd like real estate.
- 8:39Speaker 1: And so I went to a real estate agency and
- 8:40Speaker 1: I said, I want to work for free on weekends
- 8:42Speaker 1: they paid me, but they said yes, they paid me
- 8:44Speaker 1: two hundred bucks for the day, which is actually good money.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I was like, fuck, it's the two hundred dollars extra
- 8:48Speaker 1: per week and just every Saturday, i'd go to open homes.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I've got the answer for us, the same thing. It's
- 8:52Speaker 1: the same thing. So university is daunting because it's four
- 8:55Speaker 1: years and you look at it and you're like, fuck,
- 8:56Speaker 1: this is the longest time period in my life. There's
- 8:58Speaker 1: a year teaching degree. You can be a teacher's aid. Yep,
- 9:01Speaker 1: just go, it's take course two nights a week. She's
- 9:04Speaker 1: in Australia. It's the same thing, and go and do
- 9:06Speaker 1: that for a year whilst she's still working. Get that
- 9:08Speaker 1: thing and you do placement in the schools as a
- 9:10Speaker 1: teacher's aid and you help kids, which is simply essentially
- 9:13Speaker 1: the same thing on a less scale. And if you
- 9:15Speaker 1: like that, then you know you can commit to the
- 9:17Speaker 1: four years where if you don't like that, then it's
- 9:19Speaker 1: only a year wasted, not four and you don't have
- 9:21Speaker 1: an eighty thousand dollars day. I think that's a great
- 9:23Speaker 1: idea because they make really good money too. When you
- 9:26Speaker 1: do that, you get eighty bucks an hour.
- 9:28Speaker 2: I say, everyone, you're going to get so many family members.
- 9:30Speaker 2: I'm just assuming it's not guarantee, but I assume you'll
- 9:33Speaker 2: get family members saying like, oh, why don't you finish
- 9:35Speaker 2: blah blah blah, and I say, fuck them, Yeah, seriously
- 9:38Speaker 2: fuck them. You could just say to them like, oh,
- 9:40Speaker 2: I'm doing this in a way where I actually want
- 9:42Speaker 2: to see if I like it, so I don't waste
- 9:44Speaker 2: my life. Yeah, and they're just going to be like
- 9:46Speaker 2: oh okay, like they will have nothing to say to that.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I think me and Jake got really lucky with their
- 9:51Speaker 1: parents being so their parenting approach was so relaxed and
- 9:55Speaker 1: more like they can figure it out, it's their life. Yeah.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I was never forced We're never forced to do an
- 10:00Speaker 1: and anything with the potty, Like my dad was just like,
- 10:02Speaker 1: that's cool, I see what happens with it. Yeah, when
- 10:04Speaker 1: at the start of the year when we kind of just.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Like didn't work again, Yeah, my parents never once gave
- 10:10Speaker 2: a shit.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Yeah. They were just like it like they had just
- 10:13Speaker 1: like full confidence. Yeah, one hundred percent. And that's like
- 10:15Speaker 1: that's a hard thing that I think is rare that
- 10:17Speaker 1: we got with our parents. But there's something there's such
- 10:20Speaker 1: a big parent saying no to your parents and you
- 10:22Speaker 1: know what you like, So if you're doing it for
- 10:24Speaker 1: any other reason than yourself, then I don't think you
- 10:26Speaker 1: should do it. Love it all right, guys, we're cutting
- 10:30Speaker 1: it short. There, that's all you get. Sorry. The full
- 10:33Speaker 1: hour length episode is on Patreon yep, so if you
