Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more disgrace Land in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:37Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig
- 0:40Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this bonus episode, we are talking
- 0:43Speaker 1: about this week's subject to the Disgraceland full episode, The Exorcist,
- 0:48Speaker 1: the Scariest Books that You've Ever read, and our regular
- 0:51Speaker 1: update on Sean Diddy Combs. And of course we are
- 0:54Speaker 1: diving into your voicemails, text and more, and as always,
- 0:58Speaker 1: a whole lot of rosie. All Right, disc goes, let's
- 1:01Speaker 1: get into it. I don't know if you've been there before,
- 1:20Speaker 1: but I have. It's late, you're in bed, the lights
- 1:23Speaker 1: are off, the only light is the book light, and
- 1:26Speaker 1: the book that you're reading is dark. But you can
- 1:29Speaker 1: hang for ninety percent of it anyway. Inevitably, there's going
- 1:34Speaker 1: to be that part of the book, that ten percent
- 1:36Speaker 1: that gets you that sneaks up on you, that causes
- 1:40Speaker 1: you to cut from reality to think that maybe, just
- 1:45Speaker 1: maybe you did hear something, so you have to get
- 1:50Speaker 1: up and put on your robe and head downstairs and
- 1:54Speaker 1: go check. Maybe you're good with your fists, so you're
- 1:57Speaker 1: not that insecure, and maybe you've got to gun, or maybe,
- 2:01Speaker 1: like me, you're in your robe with the Louisville slugger
- 2:05Speaker 1: you keep near your bed, and now it's in your hand.
- 2:09Speaker 1: You've got two tactics. You can be loud and hope
- 2:13Speaker 1: to scare them away as you come down the stairs
- 2:15Speaker 1: like a bowl in a china shop, and hope that
- 2:17Speaker 1: whoever or whatever you heard, here's you and high tails
- 2:22Speaker 1: it out of there before you get downstairs. Or you
- 2:27Speaker 1: can go soft and slow, quiet and hope to sneak
- 2:30Speaker 1: up on the intruder or the intrusion. But what if
- 2:35Speaker 1: you succeed? What then? What if you do sneak up
- 2:38Speaker 1: on them? Are you going to fight someone off in
- 2:41Speaker 1: your robe with your baseball bat at eleven thirty on
- 2:44Speaker 1: a school night while your kids and your spouse sleep
- 2:46Speaker 1: quietly upstairs. This is ludicrous and you know it, but
- 2:52Speaker 1: you keep moving forward because you're freaked out because the
- 2:58Speaker 1: book you're reading freaked you out because you got so
- 3:01Speaker 1: into it, you disassociated from reality. You were sucked in,
- 3:06Speaker 1: and then the house breathed and something cracked, and you
- 3:09Speaker 1: snapped out of it, and your fear surged out into
- 3:12Speaker 1: the open. You get downstairs and you turn all the
- 3:16Speaker 1: lights on. You went for the bowl in the china
- 3:18Speaker 1: shop approach, and now thankfully there's no one here. There's
- 3:22Speaker 1: no intruder, and there's no supernatural phenomenon either that you
- 3:26Speaker 1: know of. But how can you tell? Really? What there is, though,
- 3:32Speaker 1: is bread and salami and cheese and mustard and lettuce
- 3:36Speaker 1: and those good chips your wife buys, and cold milk
- 3:39Speaker 1: so you can eat away your fear in the dark
- 3:41Speaker 1: at the kitchen table, and then head back upstairs and yes,
- 3:45Speaker 1: back into the pages of your book, because it's that good.
- 3:51Speaker 1: In Cold Blood by Truman Capoti, Salem's Lot by Stephen King,
- 3:55Speaker 1: Chaos by Tom and Neil, and yes, most definitely The
- 3:58Speaker 1: Exorcist William Peter Bladdie. All of these books that I've read,
- 4:04Speaker 1: they've scared me so bad that this what I just
- 4:07Speaker 1: explained has happened. Where I've gotten up from wherever I
- 4:10Speaker 1: was usually in my bed like I described, and walked
- 4:12Speaker 1: downstairs to try to figure out what the hell was
- 4:13Speaker 1: going on. And for good reason. Two of the authors
- 4:17Speaker 1: that I've mentioned here are the books that I've read
- 4:19Speaker 1: that I've found to be most scary. Two of these
- 4:21Speaker 1: authors are on the list of the top twenty scariest
- 4:23Speaker 1: movies of all time. Those authors would of course be
- 4:28Speaker 1: Exorcist author William Peter Bladdie and Stephen King. I'm going
- 4:32Speaker 1: to give you the list. I haven't read a lot
- 4:34Speaker 1: of them, but still I find this list interesting. This
- 4:37Speaker 1: is from goodreads dot com. All right, I'm going to
- 4:40Speaker 1: give you this list in reverse order, and I'm going
- 4:42Speaker 1: to give you my thoughts as I run through these.
- 4:44Speaker 1: On each of these books, if I've read them, if
- 4:46Speaker 1: I haven't noticed, breeze through. Unless I have a thought
- 4:48Speaker 1: on something I haven't read, but I don't know, who knows? Okay.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Number twenty American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis. This book
- 4:54Speaker 1: is incredible and even though it's funny, it's a funny book,
- 4:59Speaker 1: unintentionally funny, I believe. But no, no, that sounds like
- 5:04Speaker 1: that sounds like I'm degrading the writing I'm not. There's
- 5:08Speaker 1: a great sense of humor to Brett Easton Ellis's writing,
- 5:11Speaker 1: and it's definitely present in American Psycho. It's a main
- 5:14Speaker 1: part of it. It's absurd, so to speak, but it's
- 5:17Speaker 1: also The book is also very, very scary. I found
- 5:21Speaker 1: it to be anyways. So Okay, nineteen The Other I
- 5:24Speaker 1: don't know what this book is. It's by Thomas Tyron.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I can tell you though the cover is incredible. I've
- 5:30Speaker 1: never read it, but I'm intrigued. Okay eighteen The Stranger
- 5:34Speaker 1: Beside Me. This is a book about Ted Bundy. I
- 5:36Speaker 1: I haven't read this either, but if it's on this
- 5:38Speaker 1: list and it's about Ted Bundy and it's in the
- 5:40Speaker 1: top twenty, then it sounds to me like this is
- 5:42Speaker 1: the book on Ted Bundy, and I could get into this.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I haven't read many serial killer true crime nonfiction, but
- 5:50Speaker 1: Ted Bundy has always fascinated me for obvious reasons, So
- 5:53Speaker 1: this looks like something that I could get into. If
- 5:55Speaker 1: any of you have read this one, The Stranger Beside Me,
- 5:58Speaker 1: Ted Bundy, The Shocking Inside Story, let me know because
- 6:01Speaker 1: I'm intrigued. Okay seventeen Swank Song, sixteen House of leaves,
- 6:06Speaker 1: never read either. Number fifteen, nineteen eighty four by George Orwell.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I read this in junior high I think, or early
- 6:13Speaker 1: in high school, and I don't remember it being scary.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I do need to reread it because I feel like
- 6:20Speaker 1: we're living it right now in the world, and I
- 6:23Speaker 1: would like to reread it as an adult with the
- 6:25Speaker 1: context of twenty twenty four. But I don't remember it
- 6:28Speaker 1: actually being scary. If you guys do, let me know,
- 6:30Speaker 1: get in touch. Let's talk about nineteen eighty four. I'm
- 6:33Speaker 1: here for it. Fourteen and I'm psyched. This is on
- 6:35Speaker 1: the list. Legion by William Peter Bladie, the author of
- 6:39Speaker 1: The Exorcist, which I think is a continuation of The Exorcist.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Hold on, I'm gonna check that out. Okay, Actually, Legion is.
- 6:47Speaker 1: It's kind of It's not really a sequel to the Exorcist,
- 6:50Speaker 1: but it is. It does follow a mystery with the
- 6:54Speaker 1: detective from The Exorcist, which is a great character, and
- 6:59Speaker 1: in volvezuz Zodiac Killer. This looks incredible and I love
- 7:01Speaker 1: I love William Peter Blady's writing, as you know. So
- 7:04Speaker 1: I'm probably gonna read this, probably gonna read this next
- 7:06Speaker 1: actually thirteen The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Read it in high school. Don't remember any of it
- 7:12Speaker 1: never mind, don't remember it being scary. Heart Shaped Box
- 7:15Speaker 1: by Joe Hill. Haven't read it. I believe that's Stephen
- 7:17Speaker 1: King's son. Okay. The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar
- 7:21Speaker 1: Allan Poe, Dracula by Bram Stoker, Ghost Story by Peter
- 7:25Speaker 1: strab Those are eleven, ten to nine. Number eight is
- 7:29Speaker 1: Lord of the Flies by William Goading. Read that freshman
- 7:33Speaker 1: Year that I can say was actually scary. Sleeper, sleeper, scary.
- 7:36Speaker 1: That book kind of scared the hell out of me.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I don't think it was intentional. Number seven The Haunting
- 7:41Speaker 1: of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. There's a lot of
- 7:43Speaker 1: horror that I don't read. Okay, here we go. Number
- 7:46Speaker 1: six Carrie by Stephen King. Okay, I said on last
- 7:49Speaker 1: week's pod that the movie was not I did not
- 7:53Speaker 1: think the movie was scary. The book I can't. I
- 7:57Speaker 1: can't actually remember if I read it. I don't think
- 7:59Speaker 1: I read it. Five pet Cemetery by Stephen King. Horrifying,
- 8:04Speaker 1: horrifying book, truly truly scary. Number four The Exorcist. Number four.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I like how it's top five. Is it scarier than
- 8:13Speaker 1: pet Cemetery? Yes? Should it be number one? We're going
- 8:15Speaker 1: to talk about that in a minute. Number three Salem's
- 8:18Speaker 1: Lot also terrifying, terrifying book. First Stephen King book I read,
- 8:24Speaker 1: And maybe that's why it's the scariest to me, because
- 8:27Speaker 1: it was the first that I read, and I didn't
- 8:28Speaker 1: understand horror at that age. At that point, I think
- 8:31Speaker 1: pet Cemetery was the second book I read, Stephen King
- 8:34Speaker 1: book that I read. But Salem's Lot scared the hell
- 8:36Speaker 1: out of me. Anything that normalizes I said this in
- 8:39Speaker 1: the book club last night, Anything that normalizes vampires scares
- 8:43Speaker 1: the hell out of me. As part of me thinks
- 8:45Speaker 1: that vampires are real, I think, and I haven't really
- 8:47Speaker 1: admitted that to myself until right now. Just this notion
- 8:51Speaker 1: that these people in everyday life could in fact be
- 8:55Speaker 1: four hundred and fifty years old. I find that to
- 8:57Speaker 1: be incredibly horrifying. Number Two, The Shining definitely scary, very
- 9:04Speaker 1: very very scary. Scarier than Salem's Lot though nope, scarier
- 9:09Speaker 1: than The Exorcist, Scarier than pet Cemetery, even I don't
- 9:13Speaker 1: think so so I don't know that I would put
- 9:15Speaker 1: The Shining number two, the movie's definitely terrifying, and number one,
- 9:20Speaker 1: and I'm ashamed to say I have not read this book.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Stephen King's it. Okay, I need to read it, and
- 9:26Speaker 1: I need to read it soon. There's no excuse. I've
- 9:29Speaker 1: been talking about this book for about ten years now,
- 9:31Speaker 1: definitely the six years i've been doing this podcast with you, guys,
- 9:34Speaker 1: and I still haven't read it. So again, Number one, it,
- 9:38Speaker 1: number two, The Shining, number three, Salem's Lot, all three
- 9:41Speaker 1: spots occupied by Stephen King, Number four The Exorcist, and
- 9:46Speaker 1: number five also Stephen king pet Cemetery. So four of
- 9:49Speaker 1: the top five scariest books of all time according to
- 9:52Speaker 1: Goodreads are Stephen King books. And the other one is
- 9:56Speaker 1: the book that we discussed in the book club last night,
- 9:59Speaker 1: and the book we recorded a podcast on the film
- 10:02Speaker 1: adaptation of The Exorcist. Okay, so I think we're in
- 10:05Speaker 1: the right ballpark here, guys, And we talked a lot
- 10:07Speaker 1: last night about a bunch of these books in the
- 10:10Speaker 1: book club. That was awesome. Thank you. If you guys
- 10:12Speaker 1: weren't there, you missed out. Make sure you get in
- 10:14Speaker 1: the next one. It's a lot of fun. And I
- 10:16Speaker 1: said this last night. I really love seeing your faces.
- 10:19Speaker 1: It makes us the connectivity of this whole thing, the engagement,
- 10:21Speaker 1: It puts it over the top. For me. It's just
- 10:24Speaker 1: great to spend some FaceTime together. So if everybody was there,
- 10:26Speaker 1: thank you so much. Great conversation. We spent about ninety minutes.
- 10:30Speaker 1: You know, the first half hour we talked about The Exorcist,
- 10:32Speaker 1: and then really for the next hour we talked about
- 10:34Speaker 1: all kinds of shit and it was awesome. And we
- 10:36Speaker 1: figured out that we're going to try to do another
- 10:40Speaker 1: book club between now and Christmas if we deemed that
- 10:43Speaker 1: we have enough time in our schedule. I don't want
- 10:46Speaker 1: to impose upon everybody's busy time of the year. Were
- 10:49Speaker 1: looking for a book, though, here's the point. We're looking
- 10:51Speaker 1: for a book that is in our wheelhouse. Okay, so dark,
- 10:55Speaker 1: true crimey, entertainment, music world, whatever, but it is set
- 11:00Speaker 1: around in and around Christmas. Doesn't have to be a
- 11:02Speaker 1: Christmas book, obviously, but we want something with some sort
- 11:05Speaker 1: of Christmas theme. And I don't know what that book is.
- 11:08Speaker 1: We talked last night. The only thing I can think
- 11:09Speaker 1: about was The Godfather, because the Godfather has a heavy
- 11:13Speaker 1: Christmas element to it, you know. I mean, it's not
- 11:16Speaker 1: a Christmas book by any stretch, but I do want
- 11:19Speaker 1: some Christmas vibes in whatever book we read. I love
- 11:22Speaker 1: The Godfather. I don't want to push it upon anybody.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I want to make sure you guys are excited about
- 11:26Speaker 1: what we're reading as well. So if you have any
- 11:28Speaker 1: other examples of a good Christmas set novel, I should
- 11:34Speaker 1: say or something get Christmas adjacent is probably the better
- 11:37Speaker 1: way to put it. Let me know. We'll get into
- 11:39Speaker 1: that and that'll be our next book club book. Okay,
- 11:41Speaker 1: we're going to figure that out. We'll figure it out
- 11:42Speaker 1: on the Patreon chat, We'll figure it out on Instagram,
- 11:45Speaker 1: on x on Facebook, wherever we're having this conversation. All right,
- 11:49Speaker 1: back to scary books. We're gonna get to your answers
- 11:51Speaker 1: for this week's question of the Week on the scariest
- 11:53Speaker 1: book that you've read. But before we do that little
- 11:57Speaker 1: ditty update as promised the news this week, and there's
- 12:01Speaker 1: of course, you know Tony Busby laying out these lawsuits.
- 12:05Speaker 1: There's a new allegation, a new lawsuit alleging that Sean
- 12:09Speaker 1: Combs raped a ten year old, and I do not
- 12:14Speaker 1: know as of this date whether or not Shawn Combs
- 12:16Speaker 1: and his attorneys have denied these allegations. I'm sure they will,
- 12:19Speaker 1: that's important to note. I'm just going to assume they have,
- 12:22Speaker 1: so I'm saying that, and I have not gone through
- 12:26Speaker 1: the actual lawsuit, so I cannot speak to its veracity.
- 12:31Speaker 1: So it's just there. We're gonna get one of these
- 12:33Speaker 1: every single week, okay, and I'm not going to detail
- 12:36Speaker 1: every single one, at least not in this form. The
- 12:38Speaker 1: other news concerning Sewan Combs this week that is more
- 12:41Speaker 1: interesting to me, and check this out. Okay. You guys
- 12:45Speaker 1: know we've talked about who Jaguar right is. She's on TikTok,
- 12:48Speaker 1: she's saying all kinds of shit. She goes onto Piers Morgan,
- 12:52Speaker 1: as we discussed, and she starts laying out her conspiracy
- 12:54Speaker 1: theories relative to jay Z and Beyonce as they relate
- 12:58Speaker 1: to Diddy. Basically, she's alluding to the fact that jay
- 13:02Speaker 1: Z is culpable in the Sean Combs mess. And she's
- 13:06Speaker 1: been saying this all over TikTok, which is one thing,
- 13:09Speaker 1: but to go on television, to go on Piers Morgan's show,
- 13:12Speaker 1: and to make these allegations is another thing entirely. So
- 13:15Speaker 1: what happens is this is what prompts jay Z and
- 13:19Speaker 1: Beyonce to respond. They have their lawyer reach out to
- 13:23Speaker 1: Piers Morgan. Piers Morgan has to come on and apologize
- 13:26Speaker 1: for hosting Jaguar Right, and he has to basically pour
- 13:29Speaker 1: water all over Jaguar Right's allegations that she made because
- 13:33Speaker 1: they're unsubstantiated. It's her word against I guess jay Z
- 13:36Speaker 1: and Beyonce's. Jay Z and Beyonce have not spoken directly
- 13:39Speaker 1: to any of any of these allegations or conspiracies that
- 13:43Speaker 1: connect them to Diddy. So we knew that. We talked
- 13:46Speaker 1: about that a couple of weeks ago. So why am
- 13:48Speaker 1: I bringing it up again? Well, the reason is because
- 13:50Speaker 1: there's a security guard now. Hip hop security guards on TikTok.
- 13:54Speaker 1: It's a whole cottage industry. Okay, they've got secrets. They're
- 13:58Speaker 1: out there, they're putting themselves on camera, they're doing the
- 14:00Speaker 1: podcast circuit and they're talking about all kinds of crazy
- 14:03Speaker 1: behavior that happens in hip hop. This is not anything
- 14:06Speaker 1: new since these Diddy allegations. This this little security guard
- 14:12Speaker 1: interview cottage industry has really really caught some fire on TikTok,
- 14:17Speaker 1: and there's a lot of security guards who are out
- 14:19Speaker 1: there talking and they're sharing what they've seen, they've they're
- 14:22Speaker 1: taking you into the dark corners of the of the
- 14:25Speaker 1: entertainment industry. Now, whether or not you believe them, that's
- 14:29Speaker 1: up to you. They're not coming with any receipts. It's
- 14:31Speaker 1: all hearsay. So Homie Ceci, who I think I'm saying
- 14:35Speaker 1: that correctly is this security guard. He goes on to
- 14:38Speaker 1: talk about Jaguar Wright on one of these interviews let's
- 14:42Speaker 1: put on TikTok, and he says that she needs to
- 14:45Speaker 1: be quiet, saying that this isn't safe, saying that quote,
- 14:47Speaker 1: this is when people wind up dead unquote. Now I'm
- 14:50Speaker 1: telling you this because we learned end of last week,
- 14:54Speaker 1: I believe that another security guard, this one security guard
- 14:59Speaker 1: for Jays, for Beyonce and at one point for Diddy,
- 15:03Speaker 1: security guard named Uncle Ron. Uncle Ron, like I said,
- 15:07Speaker 1: it's recently been learned, has passed away and to this date,
- 15:12Speaker 1: his cause of death, as far as I can tell,
- 15:14Speaker 1: is unknown. Now why does this matter, Well, Uncle Ron
- 15:19Speaker 1: was part of this sort of TikTok security guard thing,
- 15:23Speaker 1: and Uncle Ron had about hundred and fifty thousand followers,
- 15:26Speaker 1: two hundred thousand something like that, not huge, but big enough.
- 15:29Speaker 1: And Uncle Ron was talking all kinds of shit about
- 15:33Speaker 1: jay Z and Diddy, and like I said, we just
- 15:37Speaker 1: learned Uncle Ron has died and we don't know how. Okay,
- 15:42Speaker 1: it seems strange. Why don't we know how? All right?
- 15:47Speaker 1: And of course nobody, jay Z, Beyonce, Diddy, none of
- 15:50Speaker 1: them have spoken on this death, and why would they.
- 15:53Speaker 1: But I'm just putting that out there now. I'm not
- 15:55Speaker 1: saying that Uncle Ron's death was caused in any way
- 15:58Speaker 1: by jay Z, by Beyonce by, but I'm not saying
- 16:01Speaker 1: that other people aren't saying that because they are. And
- 16:04Speaker 1: still to this day, when you look at the entertainment industry,
- 16:09Speaker 1: the music industry, the film industry, you're still not hearing
- 16:13Speaker 1: a lot in the way of denial when it comes
- 16:17Speaker 1: to these megastars who have associated with Ditty, who have
- 16:22Speaker 1: been at these parties, and who are being associated with
- 16:25Speaker 1: these allegations, at least in the conjecture that's going on
- 16:29Speaker 1: on social media. And I think that's strange. And here's why,
- 16:32Speaker 1: Because if it were me. Let's say it were me
- 16:36Speaker 1: and I were at one of these freakoffs, and let's
- 16:39Speaker 1: just say that I partook in a freakoff. Okay, but
- 16:44Speaker 1: in a I'm just having sex kind of way, and
- 16:47Speaker 1: I did nothing wrong, and I saw nothing wrong, and
- 16:51Speaker 1: I saw no underage ilicit behavior, nothing with minors, nothing
- 16:55Speaker 1: with illegal drugs, nothing with abuse. If I on none
- 17:00Speaker 1: of those things, and my name we're being bandied about
- 17:05Speaker 1: next to all these allegations, I would find myself in
- 17:08Speaker 1: front of a microphone telling the world that I had
- 17:10Speaker 1: nothing to do with this deplorable behavior that is being
- 17:14Speaker 1: accused of Sean Combs and the cohort of celebrities who
- 17:19Speaker 1: had regularly attended his parties. I find it strange that
- 17:24Speaker 1: we have not heard that. Okay, what it all means,
- 17:28Speaker 1: I think you can tell what I think we shall see. Okay,
- 17:32Speaker 1: this is the Little Diddy update. I'm trying not to
- 17:35Speaker 1: cannibalize the whole bonus episode here for disgrace slam. What
- 17:38Speaker 1: I think I'm going to do is I'm going to
- 17:40Speaker 1: move coming in January, right, I think what I'm going
- 17:42Speaker 1: to start doing is I'm going to be releasing this
- 17:44Speaker 1: weekly Diddy Dossier episode that's going to happen probably over
- 17:47Speaker 1: the weekend, and it's going to organize all the news
- 17:49Speaker 1: on Shawn Combs up to that point, all right, and
- 17:52Speaker 1: we're going to talk about all these things in an
- 17:55Speaker 1: organized way. We're going to give it the space that
- 17:57Speaker 1: it deserves once a week or maybe twice a month.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I'm not exactly sure. The amount of news that is
- 18:04Speaker 1: out there will dictate the volume for our conversation. I
- 18:08Speaker 1: am also, as of right now, researching and writing a
- 18:12Speaker 1: full disgrace ane episode on Shawn Combs that will come
- 18:15Speaker 1: out in the beginning of January. And this is going
- 18:18Speaker 1: to take us from where we left off in the
- 18:20Speaker 1: first Shawn Combs episode that we released last year, right
- 18:24Speaker 1: as the Cassie news was breaking. It's going to take
- 18:27Speaker 1: us from the point when Cassie Ventre makes her allegations
- 18:31Speaker 1: to when Shawn Colmes winds up in jail. And I'm
- 18:34Speaker 1: going to give you everything that is real. I'm going
- 18:37Speaker 1: to give you everything that is fact based. I'm going
- 18:40Speaker 1: to give you everything that is fact based in a dramatic,
- 18:43Speaker 1: edge of your seat storytelling way. That is going to
- 18:46Speaker 1: be the episode on seaw Colmes that will be releasing
- 18:49Speaker 1: in about six weeks. As I build that, as I
- 18:52Speaker 1: researched that out, I will also be keeping an eye
- 18:55Speaker 1: on the Sean Combs news that is breaking daily as
- 18:58Speaker 1: I have been, and I will be organized this for
- 19:00Speaker 1: you in some sort of weekly Diddy dossier package bonus
- 19:04Speaker 1: episode type of thing as we go. And then, like
- 19:07Speaker 1: I said, I'll release that full episode in January, and
- 19:09Speaker 1: there will likely be other Sean Combs full episodes throughout
- 19:13Speaker 1: next year as we speed toward the trial which is
- 19:16Speaker 1: happening in May. That's how at this moment, ten thirty
- 19:22Speaker 1: on October thirtieth, twenty twenty four, I am seeing how
- 19:27Speaker 1: I'm going to cover the Sean Combs story for you guys.
- 19:30Speaker 1: All right, enough on Diddy for right now. I'm going
- 19:32Speaker 1: to be back in a flash with your answers to
- 19:35Speaker 1: last week's question of the Week. But real quick, we
- 19:37Speaker 1: have this episode coming out next week on November fifth,
- 19:42Speaker 1: on the nineteen eighty six New York Mets. Now. Listen,
- 19:46Speaker 1: sometimes you try things, You take a swing, pun intended,
- 19:50Speaker 1: and things don't work out the way you want them to.
- 19:53Speaker 1: But it's a big swing, and you take that swing
- 19:55Speaker 1: just because you know what, fuck it, man, Sometimes you
- 19:57Speaker 1: got to just do it right. Mets fan, I'm a
- 20:01Speaker 1: Red Sox fan, but I'm a Mets fan. I've talked
- 20:02Speaker 1: to you guys about this before. They're my National League team.
- 20:05Speaker 1: They have been since before the nineteen eighty six Mets
- 20:08Speaker 1: met the Red Sox. In the nineteen eighty six World Series.
- 20:11Speaker 1: I rooted for the Red Sox and I was heartbroken
- 20:13Speaker 1: in that World Series. Okay, but the Mets are like
- 20:15Speaker 1: my second team and they always have been, in part
- 20:18Speaker 1: because they're not the Yankees and they hate the Yankees,
- 20:21Speaker 1: and Mets fans hate the Yankees, and Yankees fans hate
- 20:24Speaker 1: the Mets. I was really, really, really hoping for a
- 20:28Speaker 1: Mets appearance in the World Series, and the biggest swing
- 20:32Speaker 1: would have been for the Mets versus the Yankees, because
- 20:35Speaker 1: that's thematically part of what this episode is. It's also
- 20:39Speaker 1: about all the drugs and all the drinking, and all
- 20:41Speaker 1: the strippers and all the sex behind the dugout and
- 20:44Speaker 1: all the craziness that went on in nineteen eighty six
- 20:47Speaker 1: with Doc Goodin and Darryl Strawberry and Keith Hernandez just
- 20:51Speaker 1: a phenomenal team. But it's also a story about the
- 20:55Speaker 1: nineteen eighty six Mets and where they come from, which
- 20:57Speaker 1: is Queens, New York, which is different than Manhattan obviously. Okay,
- 21:03Speaker 1: So when you're listening to this episode next week and
- 21:06Speaker 1: you hear the themes that are coming out in this episode,
- 21:09Speaker 1: I want you guys to be thinking about this question.
- 21:12Speaker 1: What is the best sports town not just in America
- 21:14Speaker 1: but in the world and why? Okay, are you in Philly?
- 21:18Speaker 1: Is it Philadelphia? Is it La? The world series will
- 21:21Speaker 1: likely be decided by the time you hear this episode.
- 21:23Speaker 1: So is it La or is it New York? Is
- 21:26Speaker 1: it Boston? Is it Manchester? Man City? Liverpool? What is
- 21:31Speaker 1: it Salpoulo? Is that even a sports town? I don't know.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Let me know. Six one seven nine oh six sixty
- 21:36Speaker 1: six three eight. When you're listening to this Met's episode,
- 21:38Speaker 1: I want you guys to be thinking about what the
- 21:39Speaker 1: best sports town in the world is and I want
- 21:41Speaker 1: you to let me know why. Six one seven nine
- 21:43Speaker 1: oh six six six three eight, And let me know.
- 21:45Speaker 1: I'm going to take a quick break comping back in
- 21:47Speaker 1: a flash with answers from you guys on last week's
- 21:50Speaker 1: question of the week. All Right, we are back. Last
- 22:13Speaker 1: week's question of the week was what is the scariest
- 22:15Speaker 1: book that You've ever read? That's what we were talking
- 22:17Speaker 1: about in the B block here just a minute ago.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Obviously we're talking about it because of the Exorcist, which
- 22:22Speaker 1: was the subject the film, anyways, was the subject of
- 22:25Speaker 1: this week's episode of Disgrace Sland, and the book was
- 22:27Speaker 1: the subject of our book club meeting last week. So
- 22:30Speaker 1: what say you?
- 22:32Speaker 2: Seven to one six, hey Jacobs, And from the seven
- 22:35Speaker 2: to one to six, I still remember Pet Cemetery as
- 22:39Speaker 2: being the scariest book I've read. Nothing comes close to
- 22:42Speaker 2: the passage of when he thinks he's dreaming and he
- 22:47Speaker 2: wakes up and there's dirt all over his feet because
- 22:50Speaker 2: he wasn't dreaming. He actually went out into the cemetery.
- 22:53Speaker 2: But I know it's a long time ago and I
- 22:57Speaker 2: was in high school, but I remember clearly needing to
- 23:00Speaker 2: leave the lights on all night after I read Stephen
- 23:02Speaker 2: King's Pet Cemetery.
- 23:03Speaker 1: It was terrifying.
- 23:04Speaker 2: So anyway, just you know, I thought I would call it,
- 23:07Speaker 2: you know, okay, thanks go Bill.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Yes, pet Cemetery. And I remember that dream scene. I
- 23:13Speaker 1: really really, I really truly did. I didn't until you
- 23:16Speaker 1: mentioned it, and then I was like, damn, that's right,
- 23:18Speaker 1: and I remember being scared, crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy scene
- 23:22Speaker 1: and just an incredible book. I can't tell though, if
- 23:25Speaker 1: you know. With pet Cemetery, I think I'm kind of
- 23:28Speaker 1: burned by the movie, which I actually think is held
- 23:31Speaker 1: up better than than than it was received, if that
- 23:35Speaker 1: makes sense. Pet Cemetery as a as a pet Cemetery
- 23:38Speaker 1: as a movie is not awful, but maybe that's just
- 23:40Speaker 1: because of my affection for the book, but kind of
- 23:44Speaker 1: the goofiness that's the wrong word, but there's the movie
- 23:49Speaker 1: is missing the intensity that the book has. And maybe
- 23:54Speaker 1: I think in my mind that when I think of
- 23:56Speaker 1: pet Cemetery the book, I don't think of it as
- 23:59Speaker 1: being as scary as it actually was when I read it,
- 24:03Speaker 1: if that makes any sense. And real quick on dreams,
- 24:07Speaker 1: they tell you not to write dreams as a writer.
- 24:10Speaker 1: They tell you that it's lazy, that it's uninteresting, and
- 24:15Speaker 1: I disagree, and I think your point here prus my
- 24:18Speaker 1: point that that's not this is not true. I mean,
- 24:21Speaker 1: tell that to David Chase from The Sopranos and yeah,
- 24:24Speaker 1: go Pats, Okay, let's check out this one from The
- 24:27Speaker 1: Five one e.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Yeah, Drake, this is David the five on just Hope
- 24:30Speaker 3: it's not too late, but just listening. And you asked
- 24:33Speaker 3: about question of the week was going to be, what's
- 24:35Speaker 3: the scariest book you've ever read? I have to say
- 24:38Speaker 3: it was a book called The Scream by Skip Inspector
- 24:42Speaker 3: Greig Skipp and still Spector or something like that. And
- 24:45Speaker 3: I'll tell you what it was about Rock Band from
- 24:47Speaker 3: Hell and it was really really good, excellent and uh oh,
- 24:53Speaker 3: by the way, just one. I'm on the side. I'm
- 24:56Speaker 3: the Elroy fan that we talked about JFK book and
- 25:01Speaker 3: you didn't use bad back Jack when you lived an
- 25:03Speaker 3: episode on the AFK. Come on bad back Jack. That's
- 25:06Speaker 3: perfect for him. Keep it up.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Thanks, rock Band from Hell. I love that. I love that,
- 25:13Speaker 1: and I'm shocked that this isn't more well known. And yes,
- 25:16Speaker 1: I totally forgot about bad Backjack from James Elroy. Yeah,
- 25:20Speaker 1: I blew that. I left that one on them. I
- 25:21Speaker 1: left that that was a layout and I missed it.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Thanks for reminding me. I went with Jack the haircut,
- 25:26Speaker 1: which I've always I've always appreciated more than bad Backjack.
- 25:29Speaker 1: It stuck with me for whatever reason, Thanks for your
- 25:32Speaker 1: call five one eight. Let's check out this call from
- 25:34Speaker 1: the six four to seven.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Hey, Jake, my name is Sean from Toronto, and you
- 25:39Speaker 4: asked the question about the scariest book, and I say,
- 25:42Speaker 4: for me, I believe it was called Hell House and
- 25:45Speaker 4: it was about a bunch of people that are looking
- 25:47Speaker 4: into a haunted house. It's supposed to be a real house,
- 25:50Speaker 4: and there's this skeptic and you know, all this kind
- 25:53Speaker 4: of stuff that happens. I remember I was in Florida
- 25:56Speaker 4: when I read it, on a family trip and we
- 25:59Speaker 4: actually went to a psychic equip my sister's friend and
- 26:04Speaker 4: I'm reading this creepy book and the psychic actually says
- 26:07Speaker 4: that there's that if you're not careful, you could actually
- 26:12Speaker 4: be taken into the water by spirits. So you have
- 26:16Speaker 4: to be very careful because their spirits and the thought
- 26:19Speaker 4: of that was just horrifying. And I was reading this
- 26:22Speaker 4: very horrifying book, albeit from the seventies, but still and yeah,
- 26:27Speaker 4: so for me, that was I'd say my scariest book.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Thanks Jake. Loved the show And sorry for the beeping.
- 26:34Speaker 4: I have a door that doesn't work on my car,
- 26:37Speaker 4: so it does that sound. Thanks? Flat, have a great day.
- 26:40Speaker 1: All right, Yes, you are onto something. Oftentimes real life experiences,
- 26:45Speaker 1: things that you're going with in tandem with whatever media
- 26:47Speaker 1: you are consuming. It adds an intensity to the emotion
- 26:52Speaker 1: that that media is giving you. And I think you're
- 26:54Speaker 1: nailing it here. I remember reading Chaos. This is a
- 26:58Speaker 1: little different, but reading Chaos by Tom Tom O'Neill, and
- 27:01Speaker 1: we were on vacation and we were pretty remote, and
- 27:05Speaker 1: it just it just made the fear factor go through
- 27:08Speaker 1: the freakin roof six one seven nine oh six six
- 27:12Speaker 1: six three eight thanks to the voicemails. Guys, Let's check
- 27:14Speaker 1: out some texts. This text is truly crazy. This is
- 27:20Speaker 1: a I'm looking back at the history and the text
- 27:22Speaker 1: chain and this this gentleman has messaged me before. He's
- 27:29Speaker 1: messaged me about O. J. Simpson, He's messaged me about
- 27:32Speaker 1: Magnum p I and I appreciate, I appreciate. I appreciated
- 27:36Speaker 1: his text prior, but this one I have to read,
- 27:41Speaker 1: even though it's a little critical of me, and I
- 27:44Speaker 1: take that criticism and I get it, but that's not
- 27:48Speaker 1: why I'm reading it. Okay, So here you go. Hey, Jake,
- 27:50Speaker 1: I love the show and I've been listening since you started.
- 27:54Speaker 1: This is from the two one seven. By the way,
- 27:55Speaker 1: it's at the top of my list of favorite podcasts,
- 27:58Speaker 1: and I subscribed as soon as you started offering bonus
- 28:01Speaker 1: stuff for listeners. Okay, cool, thank you too. One seven.
- 28:04Speaker 1: I appreciate this. Two on seven goes on to say
- 28:06Speaker 1: I did want to comment on the latest show about
- 28:08Speaker 1: the exorcist. Obviously, there's no way that you could know
- 28:12Speaker 1: with all the listeners that you have that one of
- 28:14Speaker 1: us is an author who's written a lot of books,
- 28:16Speaker 1: but most particular is a book I wrote about the
- 28:19Speaker 1: true story behind the nineteen forty nine exorcism in Saint Louis.
- 28:24Speaker 1: I loved what you did with the show. It was
- 28:26Speaker 1: a great listen, but there was a lot of inaccuracies,
- 28:29Speaker 1: starting with the fact that Ronald Hunkler never remembered what
- 28:32Speaker 1: happened during the exorcism. Also, the exorcism with Father Hughes
- 28:36Speaker 1: at the hospital never actually happened. But there's a lot
- 28:40Speaker 1: of bad information out there, so that really can't fall
- 28:43Speaker 1: on you. I researched the case for twenty five years
- 28:46Speaker 1: and spoke to everyone who is still alive, including Ronald.
- 28:50Speaker 1: As it turned out, I was the one who revealed
- 28:53Speaker 1: his name after his death in May of twenty twenty.
- 28:56Speaker 1: When he and I had first spoken, I had promised
- 28:59Speaker 1: I would not reveal it until after he died. Sometimes
- 29:02Speaker 1: I get credit for it, and sometimes I don't, and
- 29:05Speaker 1: that's just the way it goes. If you ever decide
- 29:07Speaker 1: you'd like to read more about the story, I'd be
- 29:09Speaker 1: happy to send you one of my books. This is incredible.
- 29:12Speaker 1: This is from author Troy Taylor. His book is called
- 29:16Speaker 1: The Devil Came to Saint Louis. Great title, by the way,
- 29:20Speaker 1: great great great tyle, and I have so many thoughts here,
- 29:25Speaker 1: I really do so. First of all, the inaccuracies. You know,
- 29:31Speaker 1: I'm not one of these people who pretends it I
- 29:33Speaker 1: know everything, and I get everything right. We get things
- 29:35Speaker 1: wrong all the time. We're only as good as the
- 29:37Speaker 1: information that's out there. We try to get it as
- 29:40Speaker 1: right as possible. And I'm going to take Troy Taylor's
- 29:44Speaker 1: word for it here that we get some stuff wrong. Now,
- 29:47Speaker 1: I want to read this book because there is a
- 29:49Speaker 1: question as it pertains to Ronald Hunkler and whether or
- 29:53Speaker 1: not he was telling the truth about the exorcism, and
- 29:57Speaker 1: there was an article that I read. I believe it
- 29:59Speaker 1: was in the New York Post, and it might have
- 30:01Speaker 1: been one of these articles where the New York Post
- 30:03Speaker 1: didn't do the journalism themselves, but they're quoting from from
- 30:06Speaker 1: another journalist in another paper. I'm not sure, but I'm
- 30:10Speaker 1: pretty certain I read this in the New York Post
- 30:12Speaker 1: recently when I was researching this this real that we
- 30:16Speaker 1: put together, which goes further into the story of Ronald
- 30:19Speaker 1: Hunkler and whether or not he believed that he was
- 30:25Speaker 1: actually possessed. The story goes that he denies it at
- 30:29Speaker 1: the end of his life. But I would be interested
- 30:32Speaker 1: in talking to Troy here to know what Troy actually thinks.
- 30:35Speaker 1: And I should probably read his book, or maybe I
- 30:37Speaker 1: can get Troy to come on the show and we
- 30:38Speaker 1: can talk about it. That actually would be cool. Troy,
- 30:41Speaker 1: if you're listening, I'm going to message you back. Maybe
- 30:43Speaker 1: we can do that. But the question I'm interested in
- 30:45Speaker 1: knowing is, you know, you're saying here that Ronnie Hunkler
- 30:50Speaker 1: didn't remember what happened during the exorcism. So if that's
- 30:55Speaker 1: the case, how then would he know whether or not
- 30:57Speaker 1: he was actually possessed? And when I read that New
- 31:01Speaker 1: York Post article and when I read the research that
- 31:03Speaker 1: went into this episode that we're guys six one seven
- 31:07Speaker 1: nine six six six three eight voicemail and text. Get
- 31:11Speaker 1: in touch like Troy here. Even if you're an author,
- 31:14Speaker 1: authors are welcome, very welcome. Hit us up eight five
- 31:17Speaker 1: nine rights and Hey, Jake, your chat with Adam from
- 31:20Speaker 1: Lokuk Connie last week inspired me to finally reach out.

- 31:25Speaker 1: do so themselves. Do themselves a favor, get to their show.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Here's a goofy pick taken by a friend and this
- 31:31Speaker 1: is the the eight five to nine in a low
- 31:33Speaker 1: cut Kawnie T shirt looking cool. Looks like you're in
- 31:36Speaker 1: a bar having fun. Nine to two. Oh, scariest book ever.
- 31:41Speaker 1: House of Leaves by Mark Z Daniel Lawski, Daniel Luski.
- 31:46Speaker 1: I apologize Mark, I from fucking up your name. I
- 31:48Speaker 1: cannot read this at night. Super immersive reading experience. You
- 31:51Speaker 1: feel like you're going crazy as a protagonist is going
- 31:53Speaker 1: crazy trying to figure out his weird house. It keeps
- 31:56Speaker 1: morphing and changing. That sounds horrific, all right, guys six
- 31:59Speaker 1: one seven nine, six six six three eight Like I said,

- 32:17Speaker 1: that guy was a total horrible man. He beat up
- 32:19Speaker 1: all the women in his life, all except one. A
- 32:21Speaker 1: black girl from Chicago broke his ribs, his jaw on
- 32:24Speaker 1: his hand, and I love her for this. I love that, Budecca. Rix.
- 32:30Speaker 1: That's how you pronounce your name. Vet Halen writes a
- 32:33Speaker 1: great episode as always. I particularly like the background music

- 34:21Speaker 1: significant factor for any scary movie is did you first
- 34:23Speaker 1: watch it in a theater and during the first run?
- 34:26Speaker 1: The scary factor is much higher in the dark theater
- 34:28Speaker 1: and before any press about the movie and before we've
- 34:31Speaker 1: heard anything really about it. My all time scary movies
- 34:33Speaker 1: The Exorcist, the Night of Living Dead, Alien in that order,
- 34:36Speaker 1: actually had a couple of my face at times during
- 34:38Speaker 1: each of these, followed by nightmares. Whoo, Dave, Dave, You're
- 34:42Speaker 1: absolutely right. I agree with you fully, and I'm planning
- 34:44Speaker 1: on speaking about that with a little more context and
- 34:47Speaker 1: just sort of from my point of view, my experience
- 34:50Speaker 1: growing up. We'll get into the after party bonus section
- 34:54Speaker 1: of this episode coming up. Appreciate your email, guys, Disgrace
