Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch, to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:32Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:36Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other. The backyard, to dig
- 0:39Speaker 1: into the dirt, our mission to uncover the truth, to
- 0:41Speaker 1: confront the myth, to reclaim the story. On this bonus episode,
- 0:44Speaker 1: we are discussing your favorite non traditional Christmas songs and
- 0:47Speaker 1: we're making a great Christmas mix along with our conversation.
- 0:50Speaker 1: In the exclusive portion, we're going to get into band
- 0:52Speaker 1: and obscene Christmas tunes. What's up below Fly, We get
- 0:55Speaker 1: into your emails, comments, dms, and as always, a whole
- 0:58Speaker 1: lot of rosie. This is the podcast the musically obsessed,
- 1:01Speaker 1: the outsiders, the independent thinkers who know that the best
- 1:03Speaker 1: history is the history that gets buried. Disgraceland is where
- 1:06Speaker 1: I tell the stories they didn't want told, the kind
- 1:08Speaker 1: you'll end up telling someone else. All Right, Discos, let's
- 1:12Speaker 1: get into it.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:29Speaker 1: You guys love non traditional Christmas songs. That was our
- 1:32Speaker 1: question of the week last week here in the after Party,
- 1:35Speaker 1: and that was our question on social media, and we
- 1:37Speaker 1: were flooded with responses from you guys, both over the
- 1:41Speaker 1: phone and the comments on Patreon. So we're gonna do
- 1:45Speaker 1: something a little different this week. We're gonna dedicate most,
- 1:48Speaker 1: if not all, of this episode to your responses and
- 1:51Speaker 1: try to build a kick ass non traditional Christmas mix.
- 1:55Speaker 1: So let's get right into it, all right. Some of
- 1:58Speaker 1: the non traditional Christmas songs I sugested Where Christmas Must
- 2:01Speaker 1: Be Tonight by the Band, which I talked about last
- 2:03Speaker 1: week in the after Party, and it was kind of
- 2:05Speaker 1: the impetus for this whole conversation. I also mentioned on
- 2:10Speaker 1: social I mentioned winter Man by Clarence Reid. This song.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I can't recommend the song highly enough. It's incredible, all right.
- 2:20Speaker 1: But anyways, let's get into some of your recommendations. And
- 2:23Speaker 1: the goal here is to sort of informally throw a
- 2:26Speaker 1: bunch of recks into the mix, a bunch of songs,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and then call them down into a side one and
- 2:31Speaker 1: aside to track listening for you guys, and we can
- 2:35Speaker 1: put a little mix together. We can share on Spotify
- 2:38Speaker 1: and wherever else. All right, so let's get right into it.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Goozberg on Instagram recommended Christmas was Better in the eighties
- 2:45Speaker 1: by the future Heads. Future Heads are a great modern
- 2:48Speaker 1: Ish UK band who we've talked about before. This song
- 2:53Speaker 1: does not disappoint. It's fantastic. Check it out. Christmas was
- 2:57Speaker 1: Better in the eighties by the future Heads. Ellie Ordez
- 3:01Speaker 1: on Patreon suggested God Rest You Married, Gentleman by Black Sabbath,
- 3:05Speaker 1: Moronnie James Dio and Tony Iomi, which I had no
- 3:08Speaker 1: idea existed. This is deliciously weird and totally worthy of
- 3:12Speaker 1: your time, and this is going on the mix. Two
- 3:14Speaker 1: thousand Miles by Pretenders was recommended by a couple of you.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I really love this song and it seems like I
- 3:22Speaker 1: forget about it every year, so thank you guys for
- 3:24Speaker 1: calling it out. Jackie over in the Patreon chat brought
- 3:28Speaker 1: up another tune that I never ever think to listen
- 3:31Speaker 1: to during the holidays, but it's a tremendous non traditional
- 3:35Speaker 1: Christmas song, and that's Christmas Card to a Hooker in
- 3:39Speaker 1: Minneapolis by Tom waits Man. The Electric Piano sound in
- 3:44Speaker 1: this song. I just I love it. I love it.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Just makes me feel like the nineteen seventies are swallowing
- 3:50Speaker 1: me up. Charlie, I'm pregnant, living on Ninth Street, above
- 3:54Speaker 1: a dirty bookstore on Euclid Avenue, and I stopped taking
- 3:57Speaker 1: dope and quit taking whiskey. And my old man plays
- 3:59Speaker 1: a trombone and works out at the track. He says
- 4:02Speaker 1: that he loves me, even though it's not his baby.
- 4:05Speaker 1: He says that he'll raise him up like he would
- 4:06Speaker 1: his own son. And he gave me a ring that
- 4:09Speaker 1: was worn by his mother, and he takes me out
- 4:10Speaker 1: dance and every Saturday night. God, what lyrics? Huh. This
- 4:15Speaker 1: isn't a song, guys. This is a movie, all right.
- 4:18Speaker 1: And it's a movie that I want to see on Christmas.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Christmas Card to a Hooker in Minneapolis by Tom Waits.
- 4:25Speaker 1: And while we're talking about Tom Waits, the Tom Waits
- 4:28Speaker 1: and Shane McGowan and Elvis Costello's story that's in our
- 4:31Speaker 1: mini episode this week is an incredible slice of weird
- 4:36Speaker 1: music history. You gotta be an All Access member to
- 4:39Speaker 1: check that out. So go to disgracelanmdpod dot com to
- 4:41Speaker 1: sign up for exclusive content like the mini episodes that

- 4:46Speaker 1: free listening on all Disgraceland and hollywood Land episodes. And
- 4:51Speaker 1: I think I think Zeth figured out a way for
- 4:54Speaker 1: you guys to gift Disgraceland Patreon memberships to your friends
- 4:58Speaker 1: and family for the holidays. You can now become a
- 5:00Speaker 1: member for just a dollar a month, and of course

- 5:10Speaker 1: Disgraceland in an all access membership, So check that out
- 5:14Speaker 1: at disgracelampod dot com. Back to our mix, Fairytale of
- 5:18Speaker 1: New York by this week's full episode subject the Pogues
- 5:23Speaker 1: goes without saying that this is on our playlist. M
- 5:28Speaker 1: Von twenty thirteen to twenty fifteen on Instagram recommends Sufion
- 5:33Speaker 1: Stevens put the Lights on the Tree. This song is fantastic,
- 5:38Speaker 1: and I just gotta say, I hope I'm pronouncing Sufion
- 5:41Speaker 1: Stevens correctly. I don't think I am, but I don't
- 5:45Speaker 1: care to go to Google and look it up. I
- 5:47Speaker 1: just you know, Sufion, if you're listening, know that I'm
- 5:50Speaker 1: pimping out your your five disc Christmas album. Man, okay,
- 5:55Speaker 1: five discs and it's it's damn good, fantastic and m
- 5:59Speaker 1: Von twenty thirteen, twenty fifteen is not the only one
- 6:02Speaker 1: who thinks so. Received a bunch of recommendations for songs
- 6:06Speaker 1: from Sufion Stevens's five disc Christmas album, and put the
- 6:10Speaker 1: Lights on the Tree is the one that I'm I'm
- 6:12Speaker 1: going with, Okay, Heather the Yinzer on Patreon recommends Careless
- 6:17Speaker 1: Santa by the Great Lincoln Sudbury High School Band They
- 6:20Speaker 1: might be Giants. This song gets special consideration not only
- 6:24Speaker 1: because these dudes are from Massachusetts, but because it's got
- 6:26Speaker 1: a heavy crime element to it as well. And I
- 6:29Speaker 1: didn't know about this tune, not at all. But I
- 6:32Speaker 1: did know about Horatio Sands and Julian Casablancas. I don't
- 6:35Speaker 1: care what your mama says. Christmas time is here, and
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'm throwing that one into the mix. And now we've
- 6:41Speaker 1: got ten songs for our side one, all right. We
- 6:45Speaker 1: just ripped through ten there pretty quickly, and we haven't
- 6:48Speaker 1: yet mentioned, not even one band Christmas song or potentially
- 6:53Speaker 1: banned Christmas or censored Christmas song. This is a weird list.
- 6:59Speaker 1: People get up tight hey about Christmas songs, man, whether
- 7:01Speaker 1: it's seemingly innocuous tune like it's beginning to look a
- 7:06Speaker 1: lot like Christmas, or I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus,
- 7:10Speaker 1: or perhaps something a little more explicit from the likes
- 7:14Speaker 1: of Easy or Blowfly even We're going to be talking
- 7:18Speaker 1: about some of our more innocuous Christmas songs that were
- 7:21Speaker 1: banned or censored for music history, and we're going to
- 7:24Speaker 1: give you list of those tunes. You know, A adds
- 7:27Speaker 1: some others too that I don't want to say are
- 7:29Speaker 1: we're worthy of being censored. But there's a list of
- 7:32Speaker 1: absolutely filthy Christmas songs that are not only riskuy, but
- 7:35Speaker 1: they're kind of hilarious. And we're going to get into
- 7:37Speaker 1: these as well, and also going to talk about the
- 7:40Speaker 1: new viral deep fake Ella Fitzgerald so called band Christmas
- 7:44Speaker 1: song that's going to show up in your feed today.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Don't doubt as you scroll on the Gram and TikTok
- 7:49Speaker 1: all that's coming in the exclusive section of Today's after Party,
- 7:52Speaker 1: go to Disgrace aandpod dot com to sign up and
- 7:54Speaker 1: become a Disgrace and All Access member to get in
- 7:56Speaker 1: on this conversation. All right, speaking of Christmas songs, it
- 8:00Speaker 1: should be banned. We've got miss All I Want for Christmas,
- 8:03Speaker 1: Mariah Carey coming up in the rewind slot tomorrow and
- 8:05Speaker 1: then next week when Christmas finally gets here on Tuesday,
- 8:09Speaker 1: not the Christmas is on Tuesday, but on Tuesday in
- 8:12Speaker 1: the Disgrace Sland feed, we're going to be celebrating by
- 8:15Speaker 1: playing Russian Roulette with Johnny Ace and none other than
- 8:18Speaker 1: Elvis Presley the King himself, So don't miss those episodes.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Next after this break, we're going to get into your voicemails,
- 8:25Speaker 1: in your texts and your emails, and we're going to
- 8:28Speaker 1: figure outside two of our non traditional Christmas list. Don't
- 8:31Speaker 1: go anywhere back after this. All right, guys, we are back.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Last segment, I mentioned our Elvis Presley Johnny Ace episode,
- 8:56Speaker 1: and I wanted to mention that a couple of days ago,
- 8:58Speaker 1: I went onto the excellent pot podcast Ridiculous History and
- 9:01Speaker 1: talk to my guys Noel and Ben about the Johnny
- 9:04Speaker 1: Ace story. That episode is available wherever you get your podcasts,
- 9:09Speaker 1: so check that out. Pledging My Love, the Johnny A song,
- 9:12Speaker 1: deserves to go on our list for sure. It is
- 9:15Speaker 1: unintentionally Christmas. And that's what happens when you accidentally shoot
- 9:18Speaker 1: yourself in the head on Christmas at the same exact
- 9:21Speaker 1: time you release your new single. That single becomes an
- 9:23Speaker 1: unintentional Christmas song. All right. So Pledging My Love, the
- 9:27Speaker 1: song by Johnny Ace and the Elvis Presley cover, the
- 9:30Speaker 1: subject of next week's Disgraceland episode. Both versions have made
- 9:35Speaker 1: our Christmas Mix. And just for the record, I found
- 9:39Speaker 1: a great copy of Johnny Ace's memorial album, the record
- 9:43Speaker 1: featuring Pledging My Love, that was released after his death.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I was up in Boston last weekend, visited Stereo Jacks
- 9:50Speaker 1: and Somerville and damn man, anyone, anyone from Boston, Somerville, Cambridge.
- 9:55Speaker 1: You want to know what a great record store is,
- 9:58Speaker 1: go to Stereo Jacks in Summerville. And I don't mean
- 10:02Speaker 1: I'm not going by vibe, though the vibe is great.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I'm going by just the collection, the volume, what's available.
- 10:11Speaker 1: My goodness, it's tremendous. I spent an obscene amount of money.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Now granted, I bought a ton of records for Christmas gifts.
- 10:20Speaker 1: So that's I only bought. I bought like, I bought
- 10:23Speaker 1: the Johnny Ace record for myself, bought myself an old
- 10:26Speaker 1: Boston Boston Rock Christmas compilation with SSD and the Del
- 10:33Speaker 1: Fuegos on it, which I didn't know existed. And I
- 10:35Speaker 1: got this fantastic Dave Brubeck Christmas album from nineteen ninety
- 10:41Speaker 1: six that I had no idea existed. Matt Body, you
- 10:45Speaker 1: got to check this out. You probably already have it
- 10:48Speaker 1: if you guys are into into jazz and you want
- 10:52Speaker 1: to hear like really unique, unique takes on traditional Christmas songs.
- 10:59Speaker 1: This Brubeck double album of Christmas Jams from nineteen ninety six,
- 11:03Speaker 1: I think it's just called the Dave Brubeck Christmas is great.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I got that at Stereo Jacks as well. And then
- 11:10Speaker 1: I just I just bought a bunch of blues records
- 11:11Speaker 1: for my stepdad, and a bunch of soul and R
- 11:15Speaker 1: and B records from my mom. Got my godson something,
- 11:20Speaker 1: got my godmother something. Get a bunch of stuff, but
- 11:22Speaker 1: just stereo Jacks. If you haven't been in a while,
- 11:25Speaker 1: if you just remember the sign from massav and Cambridge
- 11:27Speaker 1: between between Harvard and Porter Square, and you're like, yeah,
- 11:31Speaker 1: I know that place that sounds familiar, and you think
- 11:33Speaker 1: you know what it is. You don't know, Like go go,
- 11:37Speaker 1: it has so much, so much, it's incredible. Check it out,
- 11:41Speaker 1: all right, let's check out your uh let's get to
- 11:44Speaker 1: some voicemails and calls here six one seven nine oh
- 11:46Speaker 1: six six six three eight. The call was put out
- 11:50Speaker 1: last week on We're talking about the band must be
- 11:52Speaker 1: Christmas Tonight, Christmas must be Tonight, and we're talking about
- 11:55Speaker 1: non traditional Christmas songs and you guys get back to
- 11:58Speaker 1: me full throated. Let's hear from the two.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Six Jayka, what's going on? It's Tony from the two six.
- 12:05Speaker 3: I'm gonna go ahead and get right to answer your
- 12:07Speaker 3: question what my favorite Christmas song is? I actually have
- 12:10Speaker 3: two that are fighting for the number one spot, and
- 12:14Speaker 3: not just of my favorite Christmas song, but arguably the
- 12:18Speaker 3: most obscure Christmas song, meaning you got to dive deep
- 12:21Speaker 3: define these. A casual Christmas music listener nine times out
- 12:26Speaker 3: ten hasn't heard these. But the first one is Thank
- 12:29Speaker 3: God It's Christmas by Queen, which is a phenomenal song
- 12:33Speaker 3: The second one was actually a b side by the
- 12:36Speaker 3: artist himself, Prince. It's called Another Lonely Christmas, which in
- 12:41Speaker 3: my opinion is kind of his version of Blue Christmas
- 12:44Speaker 3: if you listen to it. So I'm going to issue
- 12:46Speaker 3: a challenge, my brother. I want you to listen to
- 12:48Speaker 3: both those songs and hopefully you'll give me your thoughts
- 12:52Speaker 3: on them when you do your bonus episode this week.
- 12:56Speaker 3: I'd love to hear your thoughts on both those songs,
- 12:58Speaker 3: if you have or if you haven't heard them. And
- 13:01Speaker 3: then also one more thing I wanted to say.
- 13:03Speaker 4: If Mariah Carey is the Queen of Christmas, I think
- 13:08Speaker 4: it's only right. We give George Michael the title of
- 13:10Speaker 4: king every year we hear last Christmas, so I think
- 13:14Speaker 4: it's only right. All right, brother, Well listen, Merry Christmas,
- 13:17Speaker 4: Happy Holidays to you and yours. Say faith out there
- 13:20Speaker 4: and stay warm. Rock and roller.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Tony two great recommendations here. Of the two, i'd heard
- 13:27Speaker 1: the Queen one, never heard the Prince one, went and
- 13:29Speaker 1: went and checked it out. I love the princes thing here.
- 13:30Speaker 1: It's fantastic. It's just weird enough for a prince, and
- 13:36Speaker 1: just weird enough I think to not be a hit,
- 13:39Speaker 1: but it's great and I love it, and it's going
- 13:41Speaker 1: on the mix, and we'll put both of them on
- 13:42Speaker 1: the mix. Four one two text in, let's read this
- 13:46Speaker 1: one here. I want to read the whole thing here,
- 13:47Speaker 1: not just the recommendation. Four one two rets and hey,
- 13:50Speaker 1: probably the best monologue yet. Shane made the most amazing
- 13:53Speaker 1: Christmas song of decades. My favorite cover of the McGowan
- 13:58Speaker 1: fairy Tale of New York is in A Very Murray Christmas,
- 14:03Speaker 1: the late great buster David. He's talking about David Johansson
- 14:06Speaker 1: and the annoyingly lovable Paul good job, bro Okay, So
- 14:11Speaker 1: uh yeah, Very Murray Christmas is fantastic, and the David
- 14:15Speaker 1: Johanson stuff is especially great in that movie. So hold on,
- 14:20Speaker 1: someone else recommended, does David Johanson? Yeah, David Johansson cover
- 14:24Speaker 1: I saw the Light in that the rud Gren tune.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I believe someone else recommended that to us. That's kind
- 14:29Speaker 1: of an unintentional Christmas song, but I like it. I
- 14:32Speaker 1: like it. So both are going on the mix. All right,
- 14:34Speaker 1: Let's check out the text here. I wrote down from
- 14:38Speaker 1: the three to nine, Jake, it's Ryan from the three
- 14:42Speaker 1: oh nine, and I don't have a topic. But in
- 14:44Speaker 1: lieu of Christmas season, there's a Christmas song. I'm not
- 14:47Speaker 1: sure you're gonna know of it, but it's by Blink
- 14:49Speaker 1: one two and it's off there Take Off Your Pants
- 14:52Speaker 1: and Jacket album. The song is called Happy Holidays, you bastard.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Give it a listen. Happy Holidays, Jake in the rest
- 14:58Speaker 1: of the double elvis. I am familiar with the song
- 15:02Speaker 1: and I love it. We can put that on the
- 15:03Speaker 1: mix as well. A little Blink one two shout out,
- 15:06Speaker 1: Tom DeLong, shout out to all the aliens out there,
- 15:09Speaker 1: all the extraterrestrials, all the ultra terrestrials. Happy Holidays, guys.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I know you're watching and listening. Nine seven to one
- 15:16Speaker 1: text in Hey Jake, Jeff here from Oregon. This may
- 15:20Speaker 1: be late, but a great, very unknown Christmas album that
- 15:23Speaker 1: I love is Chet Baker's masterpiece, Silent Nights. All that
- 15:28Speaker 1: I know is that it was released in nineteen eighty six.
- 15:30Speaker 1: It isn't available on Spotify due to some licensing nonsense,
- 15:33Speaker 1: and it sounds like a cry for help or drug money.
- 15:36Speaker 1: That sounds like Chet Baker crying for help and drug money.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Some songs feel rushed and scattered, and others are coated
- 15:43Speaker 1: in that sugary, thick bourbonesque chet baker feel. In other words,
- 15:47Speaker 1: it's fantastic, good luck fine in a copy though, Merry Christmas, Jake, Well,
- 15:51Speaker 1: you know, maybe I can find it at at Stereo. Jack's.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Feels like the type of record they'd have there. Nine
- 15:56Speaker 1: seven to one. Thanks for the recommendation, appreciate it and
- 16:00Speaker 1: text in, Hey, Jake, here's another Christmas song that is
- 16:02Speaker 1: not on most people's radar. Emmanuel You're One of Us
- 16:05Speaker 1: by Ren Collective featuring Ellie Holcom. It came out in
- 16:08Speaker 1: twenty twenty as part of a compilation album called A
- 16:11Speaker 1: Jolly Irish Christmas Volume Too. It's stopped me in my
- 16:14Speaker 1: tracks when I heard it. I thought of it when
- 16:16Speaker 1: you told us about Christmas must be tonight during the
- 16:18Speaker 1: Last After Party episode. This is Lisa from the nine
- 16:21Speaker 1: oh seven. Lisa from the nine oh seven. Thanks very much,
- 16:23Speaker 1: great recommendation. I'm going to throw that one on the
- 16:25Speaker 1: list here seven seven five writes in and reminds us
- 16:30Speaker 1: of the squirrel Nut Zipper song Johnny Ace Christmas. We
- 16:34Speaker 1: know what that's in reference to, you guys, all right,
- 16:37Speaker 1: so it looks like we need two more to give
- 16:41Speaker 1: us a total of ten more songs for side B.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Let's go to the old email machine. This one from
- 16:48Speaker 1: Scott Ward, who writes in Jake, you magnificent bastard. My
- 16:52Speaker 1: choice is one you mentioned in the recent Merle Haggard
- 16:54Speaker 1: episode if We Make It Through December. Yes, it appeared
- 16:56Speaker 1: on Hagg's Christmas album, but the single was released in
- 16:59Speaker 1: October and Country Radio played a year round back during
- 17:02Speaker 1: Haggs Heyday, that's my choice. Thanks for what you do.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I'm asking for a subscription as a gift this season.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Love that, Scott Ward. We will see you in the
- 17:12Speaker 1: exclusive section of the after Party and in the Patreon chat.
- 17:16Speaker 1: And yeah, of course Haggs If We Make It Through
- 17:19Speaker 1: December is going on the list. Craig Cannon emails us.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Craig says, hey, good day mate. Thank you from Australia
- 17:26Speaker 1: for such a great podcast. I'm sure it's been mentioned before,
- 17:29Speaker 1: but we'd like to add again in Aussie's favorite Paul
- 17:32Speaker 1: Kelly's How to Make Gravy. It's very Australian and well
- 17:36Speaker 1: worth a mention from across the other side of the world.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Merry Christmas and happy New Year, or should I say
- 17:41Speaker 1: Mary Siplis and a happy Gonorrhea Craig Well, well put
- 17:45Speaker 1: there at the end, Craig Yeah. I love this Paul
- 17:48Speaker 1: Kelly tune. It was brought to my attention a couple
- 17:50Speaker 1: of years ago by our Australian listeners. Might have just
- 17:52Speaker 1: been last year, fairly recently great song and absolutely going
- 17:58Speaker 1: on the mix Paul Kelly's how to Make Gravy six
- 18:02Speaker 1: one seven nine oh six six six three eight voicemail
- 18:04Speaker 1: and text at disgracelamppod dot com. Hit me on the
- 18:08Speaker 1: Socialist Disgrace lampod at gmail dot com to email me.
- 18:10Speaker 1: What I'd like, uh for you guys to think about
- 18:13Speaker 1: this week is you know, this is great. I love
- 18:16Speaker 1: the non traditional Christmas music, but we got one more
- 18:18Speaker 1: week of content here before Christmas and we're going to
- 18:22Speaker 1: get into the after party next week, which I think
- 18:25Speaker 1: falls on Christmas Day? Is that right? Or is it
- 18:27Speaker 1: the day after Christmas? Let's see here, Thursday is no
- 18:30Speaker 1: Christmas Day, Christmas Day after party. So what I want
- 18:35Speaker 1: to talk about is unintentional Christmas song. Somebody last week
- 18:40Speaker 1: mentioned God Only Knows by the Beach Boys as an
- 18:43Speaker 1: unintentional Christmas song, and I can get with that. I
- 18:46Speaker 1: can also get with the Johnny Ace pledge in My Love.
- 18:49Speaker 1: And there's probably about ten others we can get to,
- 18:52Speaker 1: or twenty. There's a ton. Just as Diehard is an
- 18:55Speaker 1: unintentional Christmas movie, just as Good Fellows is an unintentional
- 18:58Speaker 1: Christmas movie. What are some unintentional Christmas or Holiday songs?
- 19:05Speaker 1: Six one seven nine oh six six six three eight
- 19:08Speaker 1: voicemail text at Disgrace sam Pod on Socials Disgrace sampod

- 19:15Speaker 1: with your answers now. I will be back right after
- 19:19Speaker 1: this with the track listing for this new mix of
- 19:22Speaker 1: non traditional Christmas songs. This playlist that we were making here,
- 19:27Speaker 1: and I'll have information on where you can find this
- 19:30Speaker 1: playlist and where you can listen to it. Back after this,
- 19:48Speaker 1: all right, Thanks to everybody who submitted songs. We've got
- 19:50Speaker 1: twenty songs now, and here's how I'm sequencing them for
- 19:54Speaker 1: our new mix, entitled a Non Tradition Christmash in Disgrace.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Side one. We're gonna kick it off with fairy Tale
- 20:03Speaker 1: of New York by the POGs. Then we're gonna lean
- 20:05Speaker 1: into another Lonely Christmas by Prince straight into two Thousand
- 20:10Speaker 1: Miles by the Pretenders. From there we head down under
- 20:14Speaker 1: to how to Make Gravy with Paul Kelly. Christmas was
- 20:17Speaker 1: Better in the eighties by the Future Heads. Put the
- 20:20Speaker 1: Lights on the Tree by Sufion Stevens, A Christmas Treat
- 20:24Speaker 1: by Julian and Casablancis, Johnny Yace Christmas by Squirrel mud Zippers,
- 20:29Speaker 1: and then we end side one with Pledging My Love
- 20:32Speaker 1: by Johnny Yace. All right, that's a hell of a
- 20:35Speaker 1: side one of non traditional Christmas songs. Side two leading
- 20:39Speaker 1: off in the number one spot taking us all the
- 20:43Speaker 1: way home the band with Christmas must be Tonight. Next
- 20:47Speaker 1: up winter Man by Clarence Reid, straight into Christmas. Card
- 20:53Speaker 1: to a Hooker in Minneapolis by Tom Waits, Careless Sanna
- 20:57Speaker 1: by They Might Be Giants, I Saw the Light Todd Rudgren.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Thank God It's Christmas by Queen God Reste, Mary, Gentlemen Dio,
- 21:06Speaker 1: Ronnie James Dio. That is in Tony Iomi into Emmanuel,
- 21:10Speaker 1: You're one of us, Render Collective and Ellie hocom If
- 21:13Speaker 1: we make it through December by Merle Haggard, And we
- 21:16Speaker 1: end our mix with the King himself his cover of
- 21:22Speaker 1: Johnny Ace's Pledging My Love. All right, this mix is done.
- 21:26Speaker 1: It's up. I'll post a link to the playlist on
- 21:29Speaker 1: our Patreon, or you can just follow Disgrace Lampod on
- 21:32Speaker 1: Spotify and you can cop it there. I'll probably get

- 21:41Speaker 1: you guys seen our new video podcast. This film should
- 21:44Speaker 1: be played loud. This is a new monthly video podcast
- 21:48Speaker 1: that I am doing with doctor Zeth Lundy, where we
- 21:52Speaker 1: discuss the convergence of our two favorite things, music and film.
- 21:57Speaker 1: We pick one movie per episode. Our inaugural episode was
- 22:02Speaker 1: on Goodfellas, and we go through the soundtrack and or
- 22:06Speaker 1: the score if there is one, all the great needle drops,
- 22:09Speaker 1: all the fantastic moments in these films that we love,
- 22:13Speaker 1: these moments, however, that are elevated by incredible music. Okay,
- 22:19Speaker 1: we did Goodfellas, that was the first one. I'm not
- 22:21Speaker 1: sure what we're doing for a next month's episode. I'm
- 22:24Speaker 1: not sure which movie we're gonna cover, so hit us
- 22:27Speaker 1: up with some recommendations. We've talked a lot about Dazed
- 22:30Speaker 1: and Confused, Trained Spotting, Rachel getting married? What else do
- 22:36Speaker 1: we discuss? All quiet on the Western front. This is
- 22:39Speaker 1: a whole bunch of movies that we could do here,
- 22:41Speaker 1: pulp fiction, Once upon a Time in Hollywood, all the
- 22:44Speaker 1: great Tarantino movies. Anyways, this film should be played loud.
- 22:48Speaker 1: That's the name of this new podcast where it's video
- 22:51Speaker 1: podcast again, and we're bringing it to you once a month.
- 22:54Speaker 1: You gotta be a Patreon member to copy that, which
- 22:56Speaker 1: is easy to do. Just go to disgrace sampod dot
- 22:58Speaker 1: com to sign up and become an all access member
- 23:01Speaker 1: today so you don't miss an episode of any of
- 23:04Speaker 1: our exclusive content. All right, why don't we give you
- 23:07Speaker 1: guys a little taste of this film should be played loud? Matt,
- 23:12Speaker 1: go ahead and give him a little clip. So, and
- 23:18Speaker 1: just like the Rolling Stones in nineteen ninety were fucking dead,
- 23:24Speaker 1: Clapton was nothing in nineteen ninety.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean.
- 23:28Speaker 1: The lamest, you know, like my friend's dad's like Derek Clapton,
- 23:33Speaker 1: you know what I mean.
- 23:33Speaker 2: There was that whole we joke about this, but it's
- 23:36Speaker 2: that whole divorce Rock era really is. What's that shit?
- 23:40Speaker 2: What was that record? He had out.
- 23:42Speaker 1: It was that's not the one, it's uh, it's promises.
- 23:45Speaker 1: He is a song promise I love, I love that ship.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Now that's the thing.
- 23:48Speaker 2: No, I do too, hold on. But he had a
- 23:50Speaker 2: like he had this incredible divorce rock record out at
- 23:53Speaker 2: that time. Journeyman came out in nineteen eighty nine. Journeyman
- 23:57Speaker 2: had Pretending Running on Faith, Bad Love, No Alibis. This
- 24:01Speaker 2: was like the super slick Aoar Eric Clapton, which which
- 24:07Speaker 2: sort of made him uh, super lame love.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Yeah, the I think the eyeshot, the sheriff shot stuff
- 24:20Speaker 1: is like nineteen eighty nineteen eighty one, that's okay, and
- 24:22Speaker 1: then it's bad. And then he has a Scorsese yeah,
- 24:26Speaker 1: like rise again with Color of Money.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Or Money, which is also lame.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I was like, this is like a fucking Miller.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Like it's latest. Well I know, but that's that's what
- 24:41Speaker 2: makes that movie so great. It's like the Phil Collinson
- 24:43Speaker 2: in that movie as well, Like it makes that it's
- 24:45Speaker 2: of that time, you know.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Color of Money is it's it's essential.
- 24:54Speaker 2: It's amazing essential. Really, it's essential. It's essential. Scorsese, Yes, yeah,
- 24:59Speaker 2: it's it.
- 25:00Speaker 1: You know. Tom Cruise could have done nothing after that,
- 25:02Speaker 1: and we would have been like, Tom Cruise is fucking
- 25:04Speaker 1: the man.
- 25:05Speaker 2: He's amazing in that he's incredible.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Oh, that's real. The whole thing we're getting out track
- 25:10Speaker 1: with with Vince.
- 25:11Speaker 2: And just the fact that he's playing We don't have
- 25:13Speaker 2: to go in the weeds about this, but he's playing
- 25:15Speaker 2: Paul Newman. Thinks he's playing Tom Cruise, and Tom Cruise
- 25:17Speaker 2: has been playing Paul Newman the whole movie.
- 25:18Speaker 1: It's just as it is so good. It's so damn good.
- 25:22Speaker 1: All right, that is this film should be played loud.
- 25:25Speaker 1: You can hear that. Excuse me. You can watch that
- 25:28Speaker 1: on Patreon. Go to disgrace and pod dot com to
- 25:31Speaker 1: sign up. In addition to having access to this new
- 25:35Speaker 1: exclusive content, you're also going to get access to the
- 25:38Speaker 1: extended after Party bonus content. In today's all access portion
- 25:42Speaker 1: of the After Party, Zeth and I are discussing band
- 25:46Speaker 1: incensored Christmas songs as well as some pretty explicit Christmas
- 25:51Speaker 1: tunes that perhaps, well, I guess you could justify it.
- 25:54Speaker 1: If not justify it, you could understand if somebody wanted
- 25:58Speaker 1: to ban I'm never for banning or sensor anything, but anyhow,
- 26:02Speaker 1: we're going to get into all this. Some of it's
- 26:05Speaker 1: maddening and frustrating, and some of it is hysterical, and
- 26:09Speaker 1: as always, I have some fun with my men' zeth
- 26:12Speaker 1: here that's coming up right now. All right, welcome back.
- 26:30Speaker 1: We're about to land this plane. Before we do, I
- 26:32Speaker 1: should mention that we talked about Ronnie James Dio, and
- 26:34Speaker 1: we talked about Tony Iomi from Black Sabbath, and there
- 26:36Speaker 1: is a Black Sabbath episode in the archive for you
- 26:39Speaker 1: to check out right now. Also, we talked about Tom Waits.
- 26:44Speaker 1: We don't have a Tom Waits episode. We mentioned Tom
- 26:48Speaker 1: Waits because we're talking about Christmas card from Hooker in Minneapolis.
- 26:52Speaker 1: But there's this great Tom Waits story involves Elvis Costello
- 26:57Speaker 1: and Shane McGown. That's part of our mini episode from
