- 0:06Speaker 1: It's often said that the people of Utah speak a
- 0:09Speaker 1: language all their own. It's a language that's often confusing
- 0:13Speaker 1: and even incomprehensible to newcomers here in the Beehive State.
- 0:17Speaker 1: So Radio from Hell presents a handi guide to help
- 0:21Speaker 1: everyone understand how the natives speak. It's the Utah word
- 0:24Speaker 1: of the day, and today's word.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Is moan, mo an, moan. And now here's the Mayor
- 0:31Speaker 2: of Mona, Utah, Don Kriddle, and his son Denver Criddle
- 0:35Speaker 2: us this Utah word in a sentence. The mayor is
- 0:38Speaker 2: just returned home from a meeting of the Mona Town
- 0:40Speaker 2: Council where the big discussion concerned the town's cremation policy
- 0:44Speaker 2: and how it affects the Mona Cemetery. Again, the word
- 0:47Speaker 2: is moan.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Hi, daddy, how was the council meeting? What was the
- 0:51Speaker 3: big topic of discussion tonight? Did you have to pound
- 0:54Speaker 3: the gavel?
- 0:55Speaker 4: Daddy?
- 0:56Speaker 3: Did you have to have the sergeant at arms throw
- 0:58Speaker 3: somebody out of the meeting? It's usually that old Bob
- 1:00Speaker 3: Spooner that caused all the trouble. Did you have to
- 1:03Speaker 3: throw Bob Spooner out? Again?
- 1:04Speaker 4: Well? Whereas Counselman's spooner can somewhat be argumented if on occasion. Tonight,
- 1:10Speaker 4: he was just the very model of how a Mona
- 1:13Speaker 4: councilman should conduct himself. I think he was being civil
- 1:17Speaker 4: because he wants to get buried on Tapa his wife
- 1:20Speaker 4: and he wants everybody to know that he's there.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Can people do that, get buried after they die on
- 1:26Speaker 3: tap of a buddy.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Well, you can't be buried on Tapa, anybody or any
- 1:30Speaker 4: other place before you die soon.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Billy, Daddy, I know that, I just didn't know that
- 1:34Speaker 3: you could put extra bodies in one hole.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Well. The Mona Ordnance dealing with the interment of cremated
- 1:40Speaker 4: people states that we allow two to three cremation burials
- 1:46Speaker 4: on top of a family member who was buried at
- 1:49Speaker 4: the cemetery.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Does it have to be a family member, because I'd
- 1:53Speaker 3: really like to have my ashes put on top of
- 1:56Speaker 3: my fifth grade teacher, I really liked miss.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Olivers it to be a family member. And thanks for
- 2:02Speaker 4: not caring enough for your parents to be put on
- 2:04Speaker 4: top of one of us.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Daddy, I just didn't want you and Mama
- 2:08Speaker 3: to fight over which one of you I would be
- 2:10Speaker 3: dumped on.
- 2:10Speaker 4: It'll be that as it may. The real issue at
- 2:13Speaker 4: the council was of grave markers. You see right now
- 2:18Speaker 4: here the ordinance says that you can only have one
- 2:21Speaker 4: marker or headstone per grade. It's old spooner. Well, he says,
- 2:26Speaker 4: when they put my ashes in there with Elva, nobody's
- 2:31Speaker 4: gonna know I'm there.
- 2:32Speaker 3: That don't seem right.
- 2:33Speaker 4: No, it don't seem right because it ain't right. So
- 2:36Speaker 4: the council decided that we will keep it if you
- 2:39Speaker 4: have two or three cremated folks added to one grave,
- 2:44Speaker 4: and then they can each have a marker, so folks
- 2:46Speaker 4: will know who all is in there. But the markers
- 2:50Speaker 4: have to be them flat ones.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Oh why do they have to be flat, daddy?
- 2:53Speaker 4: Because all the grass that's got to get mowed when
- 2:56Speaker 4: they get out there, moan, the mowers just go right
- 2:59Speaker 4: over the top of them flat markers, moan all that
- 3:02Speaker 4: grass as tough as it is. Well, I don't need
- 3:05Speaker 4: their maintenance crews. I don't need them maintenance crews making
- 3:10Speaker 4: moan in and all that about all the hard work
- 3:12Speaker 4: they do.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Join us again some other time, as we examine how
- 3:17Speaker 1: the Utah natives speak with the Utah word of the day,
