- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:26Speaker 2: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan, and we're doing
- 0:29Speaker 2: things a little bit differently for our Chicken Sisters Season
- 0:34Speaker 2: two reviews. I will be joined by a rotating cast
- 0:37Speaker 2: of lovely co hosts who have agreed to join me
- 0:40Speaker 2: to chat the Chicken Sisters. And kicking off season two
- 0:43Speaker 2: is Brian Harold, a regular co host of The Deck
- 0:47Speaker 2: the Hallmark podcast. Thanks for joining me.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Brian, Thank you for having me. It's truly an honor.
- 0:54Speaker 2: In addition to your work over on Deck the Hallmark,
- 0:55Speaker 2: you have a pretty special project with your sons that
- 0:58Speaker 2: you work on. You guys write books together. There. Can
- 1:00Speaker 2: you tell us a little bit more about that?
- 1:01Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yeah, this is something I rarely think about and even
- 1:07Speaker 1: more rarely talk about because it's just not top of
- 1:09Speaker 1: mine usually.
- 1:10Speaker 3: But my sons.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I have two sons, ten and an eight almost nine,
- 1:14Speaker 1: and they pretty creative imaginations and came up with these
- 1:18Speaker 1: stories and would make up these stories about these characters
- 1:22Speaker 1: in their heads or you know, in their imaginations that
- 1:24Speaker 1: to them were I don't know, more real than than
- 1:27Speaker 1: I thought they were, but I decided, I'm like, these
- 1:29Speaker 1: are these are pretty creative, so I'm gonna start writing
- 1:31Speaker 1: these down. And turned out like the more that they
- 1:33Speaker 1: would talk about it, the more of a complete story
- 1:36Speaker 1: sound like. So as a sort of a gift or
- 1:39Speaker 1: you know, a gift to them and a project for me,
- 1:41Speaker 1: I was like, I could.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Turn these into a fun little story series. So that's
- 1:44Speaker 3: what we did.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So wrote out a couple of storylines and worked on
- 1:48Speaker 1: some illustrations with them, some ideas for drawings, and we
- 1:51Speaker 1: turned them into some children's books that we I've self published,
- 1:54Speaker 1: and kind of that was sort of a marketing project,
- 1:57Speaker 1: like can I do this type of thing, like turn
- 1:59Speaker 1: it into a little fun thing to do on the side,
- 2:01Speaker 1: And for.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Them, they were just like, this is great.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I have a book that I wrote in my hands,
- 2:05Speaker 1: so yeah, turn in a little project. We have four
- 2:08Speaker 1: books that we've written now, and every I don't know,
- 2:10Speaker 1: like once a week they're like, oh, Dad, I got
- 2:12Speaker 1: an idea for a book. I got a new idea,
- 2:13Speaker 1: and I'm like, all right, write it down. As soon
- 2:16Speaker 1: as you're ready, we can do more. So yeah, that's
- 2:19Speaker 1: that's been a fun thing to do, and we always,
- 2:21Speaker 1: you know, it's fun to always have those and give
- 2:22Speaker 1: those out to the cousins and the grandparents and the
- 2:25Speaker 1: friends and all the fun people.
- 2:28Speaker 2: That's so fun. I love that. Well, we will link
- 2:31Speaker 2: your website in our show notes for anybody who wants
- 2:33Speaker 2: to take a look at those books. Before we get
- 2:37Speaker 2: into the details of The Chicken Sisters. Our co hosts
- 2:39Speaker 2: for the next couple of months, all are coming at
- 2:42Speaker 2: this show from a very different place, So I'd love
- 2:44Speaker 2: to hear from you where you are with the Chicken Sisters.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Did you watch season one? What did you think of
- 2:50Speaker 2: it if you did, and how are we feeling going
- 2:53Speaker 2: into a second season?
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yeah? I did not watch along in season one in
- 2:57Speaker 1: real time on Deck the Hallmark. They covered it with Jacks,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and I heard a lot of the episodes from the
- 3:05Speaker 1: room next door, like I could hear it going on
- 3:07Speaker 1: and hear the reactions, but I was not up to
- 3:10Speaker 1: date on what was going on. But in preparation for this,
- 3:13Speaker 1: I obviously I binged the entire first season.
- 3:17Speaker 3: You did not, I did.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I did over the last week or so, and I
- 3:22Speaker 1: it was actually easy though, because I did enjoy what
- 3:25Speaker 1: I was watching, so that made it a lot easier.
- 3:27Speaker 1: And also, I mean, of course I listened to.
- 3:30Speaker 3: All of your recaps with.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Go through all of them with Wendy, because I just
- 3:36Speaker 1: need to know where you're at, you know, and like
- 3:38Speaker 1: what you were catching and picking up on. And so
- 3:41Speaker 1: I did all the research and now I am fully
- 3:44Speaker 1: up to date and I feel like I'm really prepared
- 3:47Speaker 1: for this kickoff of the second season.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Well, you've set the bar very high based on that research.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Then you know why I'm here alone today.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Yeah, that makes that makes a lot of sense.
- 4:00Speaker 2: A little bit of a house divided on this series
- 4:02Speaker 2: last season. But I want to say, having seen all
- 4:07Speaker 2: of season one and now the first episode of season two,
- 4:10Speaker 2: Lea Thompson posted a promo yesterday encouraging people to watch
- 4:13Speaker 2: the show because, as we'll talk about in a minute,
- 4:15Speaker 2: she directed this first episode. She said, you don't need
- 4:18Speaker 2: to have watched season one to get into season two. Yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 2: how do you feel about that?
- 4:24Speaker 1: I mean, you gotta say that first of all, So
- 4:28Speaker 1: I get it.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I get it.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I feel like there was truth in that though, in
- 4:33Speaker 1: the sense where you can. My wife started watching this
- 4:36Speaker 1: with me around episode four or five of season one,
- 4:39Speaker 1: and she sat down and I just paused the TV.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I'm like, blah blah blah, blah blah blah, and I
- 4:43Speaker 1: gave her all the high points like this is the
- 4:46Speaker 1: what's going on, here's the tea, and it was enough
- 4:49Speaker 1: and as things happen, I would just give her positive TV,
- 4:51Speaker 1: give her a little background, and keep going, and it
- 4:53Speaker 1: was enough for her to see the rest of the
- 4:55Speaker 1: season through. So I think that if you are a
- 4:58Speaker 1: casual viewer and you jump in on this, there's enough
- 5:00Speaker 1: here that the high level stuff that goes on you
- 5:04Speaker 1: can enjoy. But you I feel like you really get
- 5:07Speaker 1: a lot more when you know the nitty gritty details
- 5:09Speaker 1: and the connections between the people and what what you
- 5:13Speaker 1: know the source of the drama and why something means
- 5:16Speaker 1: so much or is so like, oh boy, here we
- 5:19Speaker 1: go because.
- 5:20Speaker 3: You know, you get the history.
- 5:21Speaker 1: So I feel like you can jump in and have
- 5:24Speaker 1: a good time and enjoy it. But you do get
- 5:27Speaker 1: so much more when you're in on the scoop, when
- 5:30Speaker 1: you got the hot goss if you will, So, I
- 5:33Speaker 1: don't know, I feel like anybody could jump in and
- 5:35Speaker 1: enjoy it because basically, yeah, you once you understand, okay,
- 5:38Speaker 1: this is what happened, this is the high level. This
- 5:40Speaker 1: is where we are. Now, let's go from here. It's
- 5:43Speaker 1: not so confusing and so many people that you can't
- 5:46Speaker 1: figure out the dynamic. You know, you kind of get
- 5:48Speaker 1: a sense from watching it who they are and their
- 5:51Speaker 1: connection with each other. So I feel like, yeah, you
- 5:53Speaker 1: got you gotta say that. But also I feel like
- 5:56Speaker 1: there's some truth to it.
- 5:57Speaker 3: What did you think?
- 5:59Speaker 2: Well, I I agree with you. I think people would
- 6:01Speaker 2: be well served to have watched season one. But again,
- 6:06Speaker 2: this series is not I was in my head trying
- 6:08Speaker 2: to think of a comparison of a show where if
- 6:10Speaker 2: you jumped in season two, you'd be like, I cannot
- 6:13Speaker 2: come up with one off the top of my head
- 6:14Speaker 2: right now. But this is not that show. You could
- 6:17Speaker 2: certainly sit down and enjoy it, and you might be like,
- 6:20Speaker 2: why do I care about May's dad or whatever, but
- 6:24Speaker 2: you can follow along and still enjoy it. I agree.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I wanted to do a very quick little news and
- 6:30Speaker 2: note segment. The showrunner changed between season one and season two,
- 6:34Speaker 2: so season one the show was created adapted from the
- 6:37Speaker 2: book by Annie McBain, who is the executive producer of
- 6:41Speaker 2: one of my favorite shows on television, Shrinking Yeah. Oh yeah,
- 6:46Speaker 2: She's still credited as the creator of the show, is
- 6:49Speaker 2: the one who made it for television, but the showrun
- 6:52Speaker 2: here is now Aaron Gibson. This is a huge departure
- 6:56Speaker 2: from what Aaron Gibson has done before. Aaron wrote on
- 6:58Speaker 2: one episode of Season and When, but she previously wrote
- 7:02Speaker 2: on fifty four episodes of Gay of Thrones. Her big thing, though,
- 7:05Speaker 2: is she has a wildly successful podcast. It's a pop
- 7:08Speaker 2: culture podcast which turned into a TV show called Throwing Shade,
- 7:11Speaker 2: So kind of interesting to see some of the potential
- 7:16Speaker 2: influence will get there with her as head writer and showrunner.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Did you feel like there was a difference in tone
- 7:23Speaker 2: between season one and what we've seen a season two?
- 7:27Speaker 1: Not really, Like I thought that it's weird with the
- 7:30Speaker 1: first episode of a season because you're doing a lot
- 7:34Speaker 1: of groundwork and so it's hard to really, you know,
- 7:37Speaker 1: set tones and establish too much because you don't want
- 7:40Speaker 1: to scare everyone off. You don't want it to be
- 7:43Speaker 1: all inside jokes. So I felt like it was a
- 7:46Speaker 1: really balanced episode in that sense, Like the tone of
- 7:49Speaker 1: it was very easy to get into.
- 7:51Speaker 3: But enough stuff from before where it's like.
- 7:56Speaker 1: It's well, there was one little part that I'll get
- 7:58Speaker 1: into later on. And we talk about this during the
- 8:01Speaker 1: segments that threw me where I was like, that's that
- 8:04Speaker 1: feels very different, and it might be maybe that's her influence,
- 8:07Speaker 1: where she's like, this is something we got to introduce.
- 8:10Speaker 1: But overall, I thought it really lined up.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Overall, I feel like it felt very.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Similar, but there were maybe this is her influence, but
- 8:19Speaker 1: there were a few little things where I was like, huh,
- 8:21Speaker 1: that feels a little different. And also I am coming
- 8:23Speaker 1: off of literally binging it, so.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Sure it's so fresh.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so fresh, and it was all together so
- 8:30Speaker 1: I didn't have that week in between really spaced out.
- 8:32Speaker 1: So my experience with it is like almost not fair
- 8:36Speaker 1: to them.
- 8:37Speaker 2: But yeah, this was directed, As mentioned by Leah Thompson,
- 8:42Speaker 2: she's directed some other things before. She's never directed an
- 8:44Speaker 2: episode of The Chicken Sisters, but lots of network television
- 8:47Speaker 2: like The Goldbergs, Resident Alien and a series called Will
- 8:50Speaker 2: Trent kind of excited to see her direct. It'll be
- 8:53Speaker 2: interesting to see who's directing future episodes.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and I feel like that also keeps people around,
- 9:00Speaker 1: like you have a really good cast and so if
- 9:02Speaker 1: they're more involved, they have more authority in the series,
- 9:06Speaker 1: then the more likely to stick with it. And you know,
- 9:09Speaker 1: I think people who are really established in are big
- 9:11Speaker 1: names like Lea Thompson. That's a good's that's great for
- 9:14Speaker 1: her and for the series, because I think you want
- 9:16Speaker 1: you don't want her to feel like this is just
- 9:19Speaker 1: a gig, you know, like it's great that she isn't
- 9:21Speaker 1: fully invested there in that role.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah. I totally agree, and it makes them want to
- 9:25Speaker 2: promote the show. I practed this, weell exactly, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 9:28Speaker 2: it gives them more motivation there. Well, we're going to
- 9:30Speaker 2: take a quick break and come right back with our
- 9:32Speaker 2: first impression. Well, Brian, I am dying to hear. What
- 9:43Speaker 2: is your first impression of The Chicken Sisters Season two,
- 9:47Speaker 2: Episode one? The train has left the station, y'all?
- 9:51Speaker 1: My first impression here was a good start to the season,
- 9:55Speaker 1: very basic takeaway. It's good to be back in Marrinac, y'all.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I feel like they they set the table for this
- 10:03Speaker 1: season effectively, which is all you want from a first episode.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I feel like, I think, you know, they got everyone
- 10:11Speaker 1: back together one way or another. They ended it with
- 10:14Speaker 1: a proper conflict, and it left me wanting to watch
- 10:17Speaker 1: episode two, and so that's really like all you can
- 10:20Speaker 1: hope for. And I feel like they didn't try to
- 10:22Speaker 1: do too much, and so I was really happy with it,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and I thought it was a really good start to
- 10:26Speaker 1: the season.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Yeah, totally. I think it really mirrors episode one of
- 10:31Speaker 2: season one, where they threw so much information at you,
- 10:34Speaker 2: and then episode two really pulls back and I start
- 10:36Speaker 2: to focus in. I like kind of this frenetic pace.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Wendy and I talk all the time. You know, we're
- 10:42Speaker 2: raised on Gilmore girls like that fast pace, keep it moving.
- 10:45Speaker 2: We love that. So as much as this episode did
- 10:49Speaker 2: feel like a lot at once, it was great. And
- 10:53Speaker 2: I'm almost a little nervous for like, I know, you know,
- 10:56Speaker 2: two through four are going to kind of start to
- 10:58Speaker 2: stretch things out little bit. My first impression is this
- 11:02Speaker 2: episode's got more threads than our grandma's quilting be an
- 11:05Speaker 2: ode to our narrator as her many southern colloquialism.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Very nice.
- 11:11Speaker 2: All right, Well let's talk what we liked about this episode.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so this you since you just mentioned the new
- 11:18Speaker 1: showrunner is more sort of ingrained in pop culture, that's
- 11:21Speaker 1: more her world. I did notice some felt maybe not more,
- 11:25Speaker 1: but maybe more pop culture references, Like it felt like
- 11:28Speaker 1: a little more of that, so maybe she'll bring that
- 11:32Speaker 1: to this show. And that was just that was just
- 11:33Speaker 1: a one off. I just remembered and realized that I
- 11:36Speaker 1: noticed that Kitchen Clash the season promo for that show.
- 11:41Speaker 1: When they did that at the end of the episode,
- 11:43Speaker 1: that got me good, Like that was effective as effective
- 11:46Speaker 1: as I think they wanted it to be with me,
- 11:48Speaker 1: Like I feel like most of the episode, the drama
- 11:51Speaker 1: wasn't peaking a lot. It was very even keeled, and
- 11:55Speaker 1: at the end when they showed that promo and that
- 11:57Speaker 1: little tidbit about the kiss, was like, oh boy, and
- 12:02Speaker 1: you know, looking this is what I mean where having
- 12:05Speaker 1: all the background of the relationships and the connections, it
- 12:08Speaker 1: means a lot more. Like that is salacious at its face,
- 12:12Speaker 1: but knowing you know the history of everybody and what's
- 12:15Speaker 1: going on and how now they've come together and they're
- 12:18Speaker 1: all on the same team, to throw that into the mix,
- 12:20Speaker 1: it's like, oh boy, And I feel like it was
- 12:23Speaker 1: just perfectly done. Like I was really really happy with
- 12:26Speaker 1: that Mom and Nancy and Mama Gus as roommates could
- 12:29Speaker 1: be a lot of fun. Really, I could be a
- 12:31Speaker 1: lot of fun. It could get old, but it could
- 12:34Speaker 1: be pretty fun because it'll be a lot of the
- 12:36Speaker 1: same oil and water stuff. You know, Shaunaby and Shauna
- 12:40Speaker 1: just do not change her a bit. Is she is
- 12:42Speaker 1: the best. She is so funny, and that's like they
- 12:46Speaker 1: the way that she was brought into this and introduced
- 12:49Speaker 1: and the way that she was developed, I feel like
- 12:51Speaker 1: was perfect because you can have her do whatever you
- 12:54Speaker 1: need this show to do, like any left turn you need,
- 12:57Speaker 1: it's like, oh, we'll have Shauna do that, and you
- 12:59Speaker 1: can throw the show off the rails really quickly. And
- 13:03Speaker 1: it's in her nature, it's in her character.
- 13:05Speaker 3: And so yeah, I.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Feel like those are the things that really stood out
- 13:09Speaker 1: to me. I'm glad that shawn is there prominent and
- 13:11Speaker 1: they brought her in and sort of was like this
- 13:13Speaker 1: is my new shirt. It's like, good, Shawna is still
- 13:15Speaker 1: doing this stuff, so keep that going. So yeah, those
- 13:18Speaker 1: are those are some of the things that I really
- 13:19Speaker 1: liked that stood out to me.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with all of that. I like, on
- 13:26Speaker 2: a little bit of softer side, we skid some introspection
- 13:28Speaker 2: from Gus, we see some growth from her. Yeah, you know,
- 13:31Speaker 2: she overhears her daughters joking about kind of how she
- 13:34Speaker 2: was absent and went so far, as you know, to
- 13:36Speaker 2: disown Amanda, and that kind of pushes her to look
- 13:40Speaker 2: into her past and maybe finally reveal who May's dad is.
- 13:44Speaker 2: And fingers crossed, we know David James Elliott is joining
- 13:47Speaker 2: the cast. Please let that. I mean, it's got to
- 13:49Speaker 2: be Gus's love interest. There's no other I refuse to
- 13:52Speaker 2: accept any other possibility. Yeah, and honestly, in season one
- 13:57Speaker 2: I couldn't even have seen her in a relationship, and
- 13:59Speaker 2: now I'm bring him back. Yes, needs up. You know
- 14:04Speaker 2: loved the line Gust decided today was the day she
- 14:07Speaker 2: made her daughter more important than her broken heart. In
- 14:11Speaker 2: other relationship news, I'm so happy. I mean, we knew
- 14:13Speaker 2: it was gonna happen, but we were like, how are
- 14:15Speaker 2: we gonna get Sabrina and Lindsay back?
- 14:16Speaker 3: And yep, so.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Easy, they're here. Yeah, it makes perfect sense. It doesn't
- 14:20Speaker 2: feel clunky. It easily could have and it doesn't at all.
- 14:23Speaker 2: And the oh, we'll just stay through May's wedding. Question
- 14:27Speaker 2: for you, did you feel the Lindsay Frankie maybe romantic
- 14:33Speaker 2: undertones in season.
- 14:34Speaker 3: One, you know, it's so funny. I did, and then
- 14:38Speaker 3: I questioned it.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I'm like, oh no, like Lindsay's not into it clearly
- 14:42Speaker 1: like that's going to be the end of it. And
- 14:44Speaker 1: then the last episode I'm like, oh, like, oh was
- 14:48Speaker 1: this And I sort of wondered was this planned or
- 14:51Speaker 1: did they At the end They're like, we got to
- 14:53Speaker 1: swice this up, like we need to inject this another question,
- 14:57Speaker 1: like more question here, Like I don't know if that
- 14:59Speaker 1: was the plan, And so I left the end of
- 15:01Speaker 1: season one like how authentic is that? But I did
- 15:05Speaker 1: pick up on it, and I definitely like it was
- 15:07Speaker 1: funny because when it was first introduced, I'm like, why
- 15:11Speaker 1: is this just me? Or am I noticing something here?
- 15:13Speaker 1: And then it just went you know, we had that
- 15:15Speaker 1: sad moment of you're such a good friend. I was like, oh, man,
- 15:19Speaker 1: I guess that's the end of that. So yeah, I
- 15:21Speaker 1: picked up on that in the first season.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Yeah, we get a throwback to that, you know, when
- 15:26Speaker 2: we meet Frankie's boyfriend Dudley. I just love the looks
- 15:33Speaker 2: on I just was so glad in that moment because
- 15:35Speaker 2: I don't know if they're going to go there, but
- 15:38Speaker 2: I know that there's a portion of the viewing audience
- 15:41Speaker 2: that believes that there is something there, so at least
- 15:45Speaker 2: they're giving it to us. I really enjoyed that, And
- 15:49Speaker 2: like you said, I loved the Kitchen Class promo. That
- 15:52Speaker 2: secret footage was so layered. When you see the Amanda
- 15:55Speaker 2: Sergio kiss, of course, the first thought is Frank Junior
- 15:58Speaker 2: is going to be pissed and he's going to use
- 16:00Speaker 2: this to his advantage.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Oh yeah, he's.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Gonna milk it for all it's worth. But then when
- 16:03Speaker 2: you see that, Nancy sees it, and you know that
- 16:06Speaker 2: throughout this entire episode she was feeling torn about her
- 16:10Speaker 2: relationship with Frank and kind of trying to bring him
- 16:14Speaker 2: back in, and now Frank has all the power. Yeah
- 16:19Speaker 2: it's so good. Yeah, so good.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, that was that was like, at its face,
- 16:26Speaker 1: there's the kiss happening, and it's like, oh, that's not good,
- 16:29Speaker 1: and then Nancy and Nancy knowing and seeing it and
- 16:32Speaker 1: not saying anything.
- 16:32Speaker 3: That's not good.
- 16:33Speaker 1: But then you see that look on Frank's face, You're like,
- 16:36Speaker 1: that's even worse because now, yeah, you're right, the power
- 16:38Speaker 1: dynamic there is like oh boy, and he still got
- 16:41Speaker 1: those papers.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Oh boy, oh boy, I know, and one final little like.
- 16:48Speaker 2: The music in this episode was great. Yeah, intermittently. It
- 16:52Speaker 2: was good in the first season too. I actually rewatched
- 16:54Speaker 2: the final few minutes of season one because I was
- 16:56Speaker 2: trying to remember. I forgot that they were franchising. I
- 16:59Speaker 2: was like, what happening with these two stores? And they
- 17:02Speaker 2: play a high woman's song in the end of season one.
- 17:04Speaker 2: This episode once again returned with great music, which it
- 17:09Speaker 2: makes It levels up the viewing experience for me.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, the music plays a big role.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Yeah, let's talk what we wished for, what didn't hit,
- 17:18Speaker 2: what questions you had, Let's get into it, all right.
- 17:21Speaker 1: So my big concern here is and the more I
- 17:25Speaker 1: think about it, the more I realize this is probably
- 17:27Speaker 1: the reality, and this makes a lot of sense. I'm
- 17:30Speaker 1: afraid that this season two is going to take place
- 17:33Speaker 1: during the two weeks leading up to the wedding, and
- 17:35Speaker 1: that's it. Like, I feel like it's gonna be heavy
- 17:38Speaker 1: on the wedding planning. And I could be wrong, but I.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Don't like that.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I Like, I feel like it's it could be too
- 17:46Speaker 1: much of a crutch, it could be too much of
- 17:49Speaker 1: a time filler. There is definitely some drama you can
- 17:52Speaker 1: throw in related to it, But I just don't like
- 17:55Speaker 1: the idea of we're gonna we're gonna center this around
- 17:57Speaker 1: a wedding planning time frame. And I'm a little skeptical there,
- 18:03Speaker 1: I hope.
- 18:03Speaker 3: I mean, the more I think about it, I'm like.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Well, they're staying for two weeks up past the wedding,
- 18:10Speaker 1: so Lindsay and her mom and to me, that says
- 18:13Speaker 1: this season is going to be a wedding planning season.
- 18:17Speaker 1: So I don't know, I'm nervous about that.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Yeah, it makes a.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Great season finale, right if you think about it, like
- 18:22Speaker 2: it all hoops together at the wedding. Yeah, when you
- 18:24Speaker 2: think about it, season one, we don't have I don't
- 18:26Speaker 2: think we have an exact timeline, but it was a
- 18:28Speaker 2: very short period of time that that season took place.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so I.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Hadn't thought about that, but it does. It does make
- 18:36Speaker 2: perfect sense. It keeps Sabrina and Lindsay in the picture
- 18:38Speaker 2: of the entire time. Yep, great season finale material. And
- 18:43Speaker 2: there is a lot to dig into here for sure.
- 18:47Speaker 2: But then that makes me nervous because you know, I
- 18:49Speaker 2: really was sad to see Jake Floyd not in this
- 18:51Speaker 2: first episode, and yes, if this is only two weeks,
- 18:54Speaker 2: I mean we could just see him returning for the wedding,
- 18:56Speaker 2: which would be a real bummer to have Patrick by
- 18:59Speaker 2: himself all season long. I mean, I'm happy because I
- 19:03Speaker 2: assume that means Jake was off doing other projects, So
- 19:06Speaker 2: happy for him.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I really this is a small storyline. I don't like
- 19:10Speaker 2: the misdirection we're getting with the pastor McGregor proposal. That's
- 19:14Speaker 2: not what's happening. And it's just like, oh, come, Nancy,
- 19:18Speaker 2: just just everybody leave her alone. It's not what's happening.
- 19:22Speaker 2: It just isn't. And I'm not enjoying that. Oh I
- 19:24Speaker 2: have a proposal for it, come on. Yeah, don't like it.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:28Speaker 1: The one thing about that that I feel like I'm
- 19:31Speaker 1: giving them a little grace here is last season when
- 19:34Speaker 1: there was that question about what's Gus up to in
- 19:37Speaker 1: the freezer?
- 19:37Speaker 2: Here?
- 19:38Speaker 3: What's ship?
- 19:39Speaker 1: They answered that kind of quickly, like relatively quickly, because
- 19:42Speaker 1: they're you know, they're like, all right, we know you
- 19:43Speaker 1: want to know, here's what. So my fingers crossed. They
- 19:46Speaker 1: know that nobody wants this and we'll find out relatively soon.
- 19:50Speaker 2: What his question is, Yeah, nobody wants eight episodes of
- 19:53Speaker 2: this right, same thing with like who's jen to Gus exactly?
- 19:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 19:58Speaker 2: In other like storylines, was the Mays conversation with Farmer Jarvis. Yep,
- 20:04Speaker 2: I just thought, oh, come, when I was talking to
- 20:07Speaker 2: Wendy about this, she goes is season two as hochy
- 20:09Speaker 2: A season one, and I was like, well, yeah, it's
- 20:13Speaker 2: kind of the vibe of the show. Yeah, And that
- 20:15Speaker 2: really was one of the scenes that solidified it for me.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Frank Junior remains the absolute worst, as does his dude
- 20:23Speaker 2: bro mentor Christian. His course on unlocking the divine masculine
- 20:28Speaker 2: is like, you know, yeah, just makes my skin crawl.
- 20:32Speaker 2: But somehow they have managed to create both the most
- 20:34Speaker 2: vile and milk toast villain in Frank Junior, and I
- 20:39Speaker 2: love it. I love that everything in their dude Chicken
- 20:42Speaker 2: shop is frozen and pre made. Oh it's great, great
- 20:45Speaker 2: choice there. Yeah, I know we're talking wishes, but it's
- 20:48Speaker 2: mostly like I hate Frank Junior so much. I hated
- 20:51Speaker 2: him all first season. You know, big applause to that
- 20:54Speaker 2: actor for making me hate him so much. Yeah, and
- 20:59Speaker 2: my sign the thing is how long are we going
- 21:01Speaker 2: to have to wonder what the meaning of the train
- 21:03Speaker 2: arm being stuck down, Like that's gonna come back in
- 21:05Speaker 2: the finale, or someone's not gonna be able to get
- 21:07Speaker 2: to the wedding. Yeah, I see it.
- 21:10Speaker 1: All now, yep, yep, Or somebody's gonna take it down
- 21:14Speaker 1: and everyone's gonna be mad, like why'd you take down
- 21:16Speaker 1: our train arm? Like we like having our useless train arm.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Put it back, so now I.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Have no reason why I'm late places.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Right Yeah, oh oh, I don't want to go here.
- 21:25Speaker 1: I'll just take the long way and stop at the
- 21:26Speaker 1: train arm, like, no big deal. I had a couple
- 21:29Speaker 1: more little things too that this was one that one
- 21:32Speaker 1: of the things you liked that was that really stuck
- 21:35Speaker 1: out to me. It stood out to me as like
- 21:37Speaker 1: it it didn't seem to fit in, and it was
- 21:39Speaker 1: Gus's softening, and it sort of at the end of
- 21:42Speaker 1: season one she got in a wheelchair, You're like, Okay,
- 21:46Speaker 1: Gus is like, she's not she's her outer shell is
- 21:50Speaker 1: softening and she's becoming easier to deal with. I am
- 21:53Speaker 1: afraid that she's become like a caricature of a curmudgeon
- 21:57Speaker 1: and she can no longer be taken seriously as a
- 22:00Speaker 1: really mean, grumpy person like they she goes to ask
- 22:04Speaker 1: about her dad and she she it's almost like she
- 22:07Speaker 1: knows Gus is gonna give in eventually. And then Gus
- 22:10Speaker 1: does have go on that reflection tour where she's looking
- 22:13Speaker 1: at the picture, she's picking the flowers like, I'm just
- 22:17Speaker 1: to me, I'm like, I don't know, I don't know
- 22:20Speaker 1: if I buy this, and I don't know if I
- 22:21Speaker 1: like it, like, and I'm afraid Gus is all of
- 22:25Speaker 1: a sudden they're gonna need her to be mean again,
- 22:27Speaker 1: and people aren't gonna take it as seriously because she's
- 22:30Speaker 1: kind of gone too far into this softer, older, you know,
- 22:34Speaker 1: sickly version of Gus where we gotta like look at
- 22:37Speaker 1: her differently. So that was one thing I I'm watching closely.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I would say, I guess is her emotion and how
- 22:45Speaker 1: her how seriously she's taken, and how mean she can be,
- 22:48Speaker 1: and if people react to it the way they used to,
- 22:50Speaker 1: you know, like she could be mean and people would
- 22:52Speaker 1: just be like, oh, that's just Gus, don't worry about it.
- 22:54Speaker 1: But I feel like you lose a little bit of
- 22:56Speaker 1: edge if people aren't really afraid of Gus, and so
- 22:59Speaker 1: that's something that I was like, hmm hmm, what's going
- 23:02Speaker 1: on here?
- 23:03Speaker 2: Yeah? Is that true to who her character is as
- 23:06Speaker 2: we know it to be. It is a question me.
- 23:09Speaker 2: I'm just like, I want everyone to get along.
- 23:12Speaker 1: I know that is fun too, That is that is fun?
- 23:15Speaker 2: No, I mean I love the drama of it all.
- 23:18Speaker 2: It's interesting because we didn't see a lot. I did
- 23:22Speaker 2: not rewatch season one in preparation for season two, but
- 23:26Speaker 2: in my memory, we didn't see a lot from Gus's
- 23:29Speaker 2: perspective in season one. It was all how people perceived her.
- 23:34Speaker 2: And again, season one is based on the book. Season
- 23:36Speaker 2: two is not like they're just yeah, making it up.
- 23:39Speaker 2: So we don't know where this season is going. Although
- 23:43Speaker 2: season there were some departures from the book, the main
- 23:45Speaker 2: story in season one was the same, and so we
- 23:48Speaker 2: remains to see what Gus's growth is going to be.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Like. That was a question I had, was was, see,
- 23:56Speaker 1: I didn't know that whether season one was the book
- 23:58Speaker 1: total and season two is all fresh, which that's I
- 24:02Speaker 1: don't know.
- 24:02Speaker 3: I guess that's kind of good to hear.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Yeah. The writer is listed as an executive producer. So
- 24:07Speaker 2: she's still kJ Delantonia is still involved with the show
- 24:10Speaker 2: in some way and so hopefully guiding the storyline. But
- 24:14Speaker 2: I'll admit I don't fully understand how executive producing works.
- 24:17Speaker 2: And that's just like an honorary thing, like, hey, we're
- 24:20Speaker 2: using your intellectual property and here it therefore you get
- 24:22Speaker 2: that credit. I don't know how involved.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I think sometimes it is. Sometimes it isn't.
- 24:27Speaker 2: It defends you want to talk to you just see that.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Yeah, one thing that stood out to me just I
- 24:34Speaker 1: know she has to do this, Lindsay hiding in the closet,
- 24:37Speaker 1: just a bold move on the first floor of a
- 24:40Speaker 1: busy house, you know, like you're gonna be you could
- 24:42Speaker 1: be in there all night. Like that's just I don't know.
- 24:46Speaker 1: It just seems like a weird tider, bad hider, bad
- 24:50Speaker 1: bad hider. So in a detail that I feel like
- 24:54Speaker 1: they haven't covered it all yet, and maybe this will
- 24:56Speaker 1: be the source of conflict to come. It's how how
- 25:00Speaker 1: do they decide on which recipes they're going to use?
- 25:03Speaker 3: Here? For Chicken Sisters, because.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Both restaurants, assuming they each had their own secret, proprietary
- 25:10Speaker 1: way of doing their chicken and their sides and all
- 25:13Speaker 1: this stuff. They're going to come together and they're gonna
- 25:16Speaker 1: have to pick one or make a new one, which
- 25:18Speaker 1: I doubt they'll want to do. They'll want to use
- 25:20Speaker 1: a tried and true traditional recipe.
- 25:23Speaker 3: How is that?
- 25:24Speaker 1: Like this is all like background logistical business organization stuff
- 25:28Speaker 1: that I just want to see, Like I want to
- 25:29Speaker 1: be in the boardroom here while they're making these decisions.
- 25:32Speaker 1: So is this going to come up? Have they already
- 25:35Speaker 1: had these discussions? What's the recipe here?
- 25:38Speaker 3: Like who wins? Whose recipes are they going with?
- 25:41Speaker 1: Because I feel like that's maybe that'll be a huge
- 25:44Speaker 1: argument coming up, but I want to know, Like I
- 25:47Speaker 1: want to know about that.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Yeah, but we're nine months into the future, right, So
- 25:53Speaker 2: it seems like if they were going to have that discussion,
- 25:55Speaker 2: they would have already had it.
- 25:56Speaker 3: You would hope.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Yeah, So maybe they're just glossing over that there's too
- 26:00Speaker 2: many details to figure out because the other thing that
- 26:02Speaker 2: seems to me is at one point, you know, for
- 26:08Speaker 2: Rannie's is the one that they seem to do sending
- 26:10Speaker 2: most of their time in but at one point Gus
- 26:12Speaker 2: is back in Mimi, yeah, and May goes over there.
- 26:15Speaker 2: She's like, oh, we didn't need anybody over there, but
- 26:17Speaker 2: it doesn't actually appear that Mime's is open. That was
- 26:20Speaker 2: the little confusing part to me. I couldn't quite figure
- 26:22Speaker 2: out what was going on. Who works where, because Sergio
- 26:27Speaker 2: was of course the Mimi chef, but he appears to
- 26:29Speaker 2: be over at Franny's. That's a little confusing to me
- 26:32Speaker 2: how they're balancing their time between these two restaurants. And
- 26:36Speaker 2: I actually have to admit that when we see that
- 26:39Speaker 2: opening black and white throwback scene and they talk about
- 26:42Speaker 2: the train and they talk about the Chicken Sister's restaurant,
- 26:45Speaker 2: I had completely forgotten that that was the whole origin,
- 26:49Speaker 2: that there was an original Chicken Sister's restaurant. I only
- 26:52Speaker 2: remember that there were two rival restaurants that opened in
- 26:55Speaker 2: the same town. And I was like, are we rewriting
- 26:58Speaker 2: history now? I just have the memory a goldfish, so.
- 27:01Speaker 3: I forgot that.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I didn't catch that either, So that was that's news.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Yeah. I had was genuinely shocked to see that. So
- 27:09Speaker 2: it's split, that's you know, split into Franny's and Mimi's
- 27:12Speaker 2: when they had their big five, right, So I have
- 27:16Speaker 2: just a couple of tiny little like a true did
- 27:17Speaker 2: you see that. In the beginning of the episode, Amanda
- 27:20Speaker 2: hugs FRANKI because Frankie's gonna leave it. She's like, I'm
- 27:22Speaker 2: gonna not gonna get the chance to do that. Well,
- 27:23Speaker 2: she has a tray full of coffees and she hugs her.
- 27:25Speaker 2: The trayco's completely sideways, like if there was anything in there,
- 27:28Speaker 2: Frankie would have been covered in hot coffee. It's the
- 27:32Speaker 2: worst empty coffee cup moment.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Man. That's how they like their coffee, just all over
- 27:36Speaker 3: their clothes.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Yeah, tiny, did you see that? Really loved that. Frank
- 27:40Speaker 2: Junior's co worker at the Dude Chicken restaurant is named
- 27:43Speaker 2: Jethro Yes. I just loved it. It's I don't know why,
- 27:47Speaker 2: but loved it. And this is a deep cut. But
- 27:51Speaker 2: the voice over this season, I'm assuming you did not
- 27:55Speaker 2: watch the trash that is Love Island.
- 27:58Speaker 1: No, uh oh, I've seen some of that, but no,
- 28:01Speaker 1: not not really.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Well, one of the key components of Love Island is
- 28:05Speaker 2: their voiceover the narrators.
- 28:10Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's like Dad jokes and puns the entire
- 28:14Speaker 2: he has a real deep Scottish accent. Anyway, the voiceover
- 28:17Speaker 2: was giving me Ian from Love Island, but instead of
- 28:20Speaker 2: dad jokes, it's seven colloquialisms. Yeah, so that's it. Well,
- 28:25Speaker 2: you are not new to the show, so you the
- 28:28Speaker 2: most rehearsed co hosts we're going to have for the
- 28:31Speaker 2: next eight weeks. So probably nothing confused you because you
- 28:35Speaker 2: were not rand new to the episode.
- 28:37Speaker 3: That's true.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't have my fresh eyes, you know. My
- 28:41Speaker 1: topic that was confusing was basically your what you just
- 28:44Speaker 1: went over or did you see that? About where are
- 28:46Speaker 1: they cooking? What is going on with the kitchens? They're
- 28:50Speaker 1: bouncing back and forth. That was something I was just.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Like, well, they didn't really they're not clear on that.
- 28:56Speaker 3: I assumed. I assume the same thing as you.
- 28:57Speaker 1: They're mainly working out of Franny's and Mimi's is just
- 29:01Speaker 1: there because it's attached or is where her house was?
- 29:04Speaker 3: I don't. I don't know.
- 29:05Speaker 1: So that's something to hopefully they'll clear up or I
- 29:08Speaker 1: don't know.
- 29:09Speaker 3: That was one thing. But yeah, nothing that I was like, Oh,
- 29:11Speaker 3: that's weird. I don't get that. What's that all about?
- 29:14Speaker 1: There was nothing because yeah, I did a little bit
- 29:16Speaker 1: of background work there.
- 29:17Speaker 2: I don't know if this matters, but at the end
- 29:19Speaker 2: of season one. Uh, Kaitlin Sehawanna comes in and she's like,
- 29:22Speaker 2: we're going to franchise this, and she's like, I got
- 29:24Speaker 2: the town elders, that's not the word the mayor to
- 29:28Speaker 2: agree that we can have this franchise in town. But
- 29:31Speaker 2: then in the recap of season two she says like,
- 29:34Speaker 2: we're going to go into business again. They don't use
- 29:36Speaker 2: the word franchise, So I wonder if they maybe realize,
- 29:38Speaker 2: like running these two three chicken restaurants might be a lot. Yeah, oh,
- 29:44Speaker 2: on this show, we're going to add a feathered friend
- 29:48Speaker 2: of the week. Who really brought it for you? This episode?
- 29:52Speaker 3: Well?
- 29:53Speaker 1: May it was great. May is always great. I felt
- 29:55Speaker 1: like during season one, during one of your reviews, you asked,
- 30:00Speaker 1: or are you read the books right?
- 30:02Speaker 2: I did?
- 30:02Speaker 1: Okay, So, and when Wendy asked you, is may a big?
- 30:07Speaker 1: Is she the focal point of the book, because it
- 30:09Speaker 1: felt like they were turning a little bit in the
- 30:11Speaker 1: show to be from her point of view, to have
- 30:14Speaker 1: her sort of be the main focus. And I felt
- 30:18Speaker 1: that too watching the first season. And she again like her,
- 30:23Speaker 1: she feels like a substantial focus for some reason, and
- 30:26Speaker 1: she is great, Like I really really like may I
- 30:29Speaker 1: like her character, I like the way that she acts,
- 30:31Speaker 1: like I think she's very good in the show. So
- 30:34Speaker 1: she's always like a perpetual feathered friend. But the person
- 30:38Speaker 1: who I like sat up straight when I saw was
- 30:41Speaker 1: one loch Woman Roe walking in as the town mayor,
- 30:45Speaker 1: which to me, I love Lochwoman Roe. There's something about it. Yeah,
- 30:48Speaker 1: he's just so fun in every role. And when they
- 30:51Speaker 1: actually bring in the mayor who they talk about in
- 30:54Speaker 1: the previous episodes, it tells me we're gonna have some
- 30:58Speaker 1: small town politicking going on and they want us to
- 31:01Speaker 1: know the mayor, and so I like that because that's fun,
- 31:04Speaker 1: Like when they're just having problems and bickering and Loachlan
- 31:08Speaker 1: Moreau's the one in the middle of it that's gonna
- 31:11Speaker 1: I'm hoping that's going to be a really good time.
- 31:12Speaker 1: So Loachlan Moreau as the mayor was my standout feathered
- 31:16Speaker 1: friend here.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Well, I love that. I was really excited to see
- 31:20Speaker 2: him join the cast too, and I hope, like you mentioned,
- 31:23Speaker 2: we get a lot more of him the entire time
- 31:26Speaker 2: we're talking with you know, I know I made the
- 31:28Speaker 2: Gilmore Girls comparison, but like the comparisons abound. You know,
- 31:32Speaker 2: he's the tailor of the show. You know, the real nitpicky.
- 31:36Speaker 2: It could be very interesting. So look, one of my
- 31:39Speaker 2: favorite characters in this show is Shauna played by Kaitlin Howdy.
- 31:43Speaker 2: She is. She's so good. In this episode, she just delivered.
- 31:49Speaker 2: She gives Amanda Smuddy Book to pass the time until
