- 1:32Speaker 2: Brandon's hard to believe and appreciate you jumping in here
- 1:34Speaker 2: where it's just for a minute. First off, how were
- 1:37Speaker 2: you many good?
- 1:38Speaker 1: I'll tell you what it's like Christmas morning, isn't it though? Yeah?
- 1:41Speaker 1: I woke up at three point thirty this morning and
- 1:43Speaker 1: I did go back to sleep. I was telling I said,
- 1:44Speaker 1: we get to watch football today, and it's always good
- 1:47Speaker 1: to come over here. This is a great venue, great people.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It's I'm glad that we're not rivals anymore as far
- 1:53Speaker 1: as in reagion play goes, because there was that factor.
- 1:56Speaker 1: But I couldn't think of a better place to come
- 1:58Speaker 1: over here to play a tune up game and get ready.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah, let me let me ask you about that, because
- 2:02Speaker 2: you're right, Brandon and Warren Central now not the not
- 2:05Speaker 2: the rivals that Clinton and Warren Central is, or you
- 2:08Speaker 2: know with Pearl, which a lot of people don't realize.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Pearl Warren Central's a big game in a huge.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Goes back all the way to the Little Dixie days.
- 2:14Speaker 1: You know, the old timers out there listening to this,
- 2:16Speaker 1: the veterans, they know that just a slobbery knocker of affairs.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And then it got even more intense when when John
- 2:23Speaker 1: Perry was there in the games that we had, you know,
- 2:26Speaker 1: John Perry gave Josh Morgan one of his worst losses
- 2:29Speaker 1: of all time forty two to nothing. Really, yeah, when
- 2:31Speaker 1: Gunnar Dennis was quarterback for him, we just had a
- 2:34Speaker 1: down year and uh, they had so much. You know,
- 2:38Speaker 1: John Perry had so much respect for for for Josh.
- 2:40Speaker 1: He just was dejected after the game, you know, and
- 2:42Speaker 1: like you know, he he said, this will never happen again.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And but yeah, a huge rival. We love playing Pearls.
- 2:48Speaker 1: You know, it's big and we like knocking them down
- 2:51Speaker 1: the level or two before y'all take care of them.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So it's always fun to play those guys, you know.
- 2:55Speaker 2: The move to six A, I think it just fit
- 2:59Speaker 2: one in Central, right. I mean when the who in
- 3:01Speaker 2: the state championship last year, in the class of it.
- 3:04Speaker 2: When I say it fits, that's not a knock at
- 3:05Speaker 2: Warn't Central at all. Just you know, a lot of
- 3:08Speaker 2: people had mixed feelings about the seven A classification, but
- 3:11Speaker 2: I do think it helped certain teams, Warren Central being one. Look,
- 3:15Speaker 2: I don't want to speak for Pearl, but I know
- 3:16Speaker 2: if you talk to a lot of people of Pearl,
- 3:18Speaker 2: they've said, hey, we really need to be a six
- 3:20Speaker 2: A program. There's that opinion. And it's more so because
- 3:22Speaker 2: of student population. You can speak on this with Warren
- 3:24Speaker 2: Central student population and roster size.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Yeah, student population, we've seen a you know a lot
- 3:30Speaker 1: of kids leaving the Vicksburg Warren School district go in
- 3:33Speaker 1: other places for various reasons. We do have two academies
- 3:36Speaker 1: in in Vicksburg. And then we've seen, you know a
- 3:40Speaker 1: lot of parents worked for the Army Corps engineers and
- 3:43Speaker 1: Ernic and Ergon and other places like that, and they're
- 3:46Speaker 1: electing to be closer to the metro area and they've
- 3:49Speaker 1: moved their kids. So we've seen a pretty drastic or
- 3:51Speaker 1: you know, a trend line of a population of our
- 3:54Speaker 1: students go down for us at warren't Central. I'll be
- 3:56Speaker 1: honest with you, we were disappointed that we were not
- 3:59Speaker 1: in seven A. We wanted to play at the highest level.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Josh never wants to back down. If you look at
- 4:04Speaker 1: our schedule or a non region schedule. We played Vicksburg
- 4:07Speaker 1: because it's a local rivalry obviously, but everyone else is
- 4:10Speaker 1: all seven eight programs, and we want to play at
- 4:12Speaker 1: the highest level to get you ready. And we saw
- 4:14Speaker 1: the benefits of that last year. As we know, we
- 4:17Speaker 1: had a great season in region play and then we
- 4:19Speaker 1: were able to just cruise through the playoffs other than
- 4:22Speaker 1: that tight game against Ridgeland, but we felt like that
- 4:26Speaker 1: playing the tough non region schedule that we had got
- 4:28Speaker 1: us ready for a team like Hattisburg in a four
- 4:30Speaker 1: quarter grind. So but it was a blessing. You know.
- 4:34Speaker 1: It's helped us in all sports. It helped us in
- 4:36Speaker 1: baseball and softball, swim, you know, so many sports. From
- 4:40Speaker 1: dropping down to six eight has helped us. But when
- 4:42Speaker 1: it first happened, we were kind of disappointed.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Let's talk of Nash Morgan committed to Mississippi State. Obviously,
- 4:49Speaker 2: Misssippi State fans so obviously know that name. Cyber Morgan's
- 4:53Speaker 2: have come through there. Josh was a big time player
- 4:55Speaker 2: at Missippi State in that secondary with Eugene Clinton, the
- 4:57Speaker 2: head coach here, at Brandon that the two will square
- 5:01Speaker 2: off and have a little fun tonight. I remember when
- 5:03Speaker 2: Nash was a ninth grader and saw him, I believe
- 5:06Speaker 2: over in Vicksburg, and you know, you saw a guy
- 5:10Speaker 2: that was athletic, but it was coming together. But man,
- 5:13Speaker 2: when you saw him last year, what a player. Talk
- 5:16Speaker 2: a little bit about Dash Morgan.
- 5:17Speaker 1: The weight and conditioning program of spring and summer is
- 5:20Speaker 1: what did it for him. And he put on about
- 5:22Speaker 1: ten to fifteen pounds of good muscle weight and Rob
- 5:25Speaker 1: was able to Rob Morgan, the offensive coordinator. At that point,
- 5:27Speaker 1: they felt good enough to say that was safe enough
- 5:30Speaker 1: to run him more. And you saw what he did
- 5:32Speaker 1: last year. I mean he had fourteen hundred yards or no,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I think he had fourteen fifteen hundred yards rushing and
- 5:38Speaker 1: seventeen rushing, almost twenty touchdowns on the ground. But it
- 5:41Speaker 1: all went back to the strength conditioning program that they
- 5:45Speaker 1: had at war in Central which they learned when they
- 5:47Speaker 1: were at Misisippi State. They created something called Iron Vikings
- 5:51Speaker 1: and All and it was based strictly off of of
- 5:53Speaker 1: what they had the Iron Dog. You remember the Iron
- 5:56Speaker 1: Dog from back in the day at Missisipi State. They
- 5:58Speaker 1: used to do the poster with all of a light
- 6:00Speaker 1: lighthole and the chains and all that, and Josh, Josh
- 6:02Speaker 1: developed that program off of what they went through and
- 6:05Speaker 1: start Bull and it has played dividends for us. And
- 6:08Speaker 1: you know, the we had our conditioning test the other day.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I think they run twelve twelve one hundreds and gassers
- 6:14Speaker 1: and they've got maybe, yes, twelve they have to run
- 6:17Speaker 1: in just a short period of time, and everyone passed,
- 6:20Speaker 1: even the lineman, which is pretty remarkable. Normally we have
- 6:23Speaker 1: kids that fail and have to retake it. So the
- 6:26Speaker 1: stream of conditioning is what's really set us apart, I feel,
- 6:28Speaker 1: and that's what's helping Nash. You'll watch him tonight and
- 6:31Speaker 1: his this look at his legs like you got tree
- 6:33Speaker 1: trunks down there and you need that to play in
- 6:36Speaker 1: this type of game.
- 6:37Speaker 2: There's no doubt about it.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Of course.
- 6:38Speaker 2: So we got about two minutes left here, Brandon Davis
- 6:40Speaker 2: play by play Boys, Warren Central.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Not sneaking up on anybody this year. You are the hundred, hey,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and we're not gonna like that. I mean, we prefer
- 6:49Speaker 1: to be the underdog. And that's always what Josh said,
- 6:52Speaker 1: and you'll ask him even going into the state championship
- 6:55Speaker 1: game and I was interviewed him about various things. He's like,
- 6:58Speaker 1: you know, we're just not that good of a ball program.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Come on, coach, give me something here. You can't say
- 7:03Speaker 1: that now, very modest. So yeah, it's gonna be interesting
- 7:06Speaker 1: to see. It's a different dynamic. You're right, How are
- 7:07Speaker 1: the coaches gonna be able to handle that? The expectations
- 7:10Speaker 1: and then keeping the emotions of the kids down, knowing
- 7:13Speaker 1: that you are the state champions. But everybody, you're right,
- 7:15Speaker 1: it's gonna be looking at you on Friday nights.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Well, brother, we appreciate you, wish you the best, the
- 7:19Speaker 2: Vikings the best this season.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Is great to see you today. Hey, I'm looking forward
- 7:23Speaker 1: to it. It's gonna be fun.
- 7:23Speaker 2: It's gonna be fun. Brandon Davis on your radio as
- 7:26Speaker 2: we get ready to put a bow on it here
- 7:28Speaker 2: on a Friday, I want to say thanks to Keith Hardy,
