- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on gadigal Land, Always was, always
- 0:03Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal Land. Hey Chicks, I'm sal and I'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: out and this is two Broke Chicks, the show that
- 0:15Speaker 1: shares life lessons and tips to help make you rich
- 0:18Speaker 1: in life. And welcome to our very special Black Friday episode. Bebe,
- 0:23Speaker 1: it's Quee that doesn't want any more.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Bear exactly.
- 0:27Speaker 3: It's Simpson's reference for anyone playing at home.
- 0:30Speaker 4: But every year we always do a huge Black Friday
- 0:33Speaker 4: episode to help you chicks get the most bang for
- 0:35Speaker 4: your buck during arguably the biggest sale season of the
- 0:39Speaker 4: entire year.
- 0:40Speaker 1: This year, though, we're doing it a bit differently because
- 0:43Speaker 1: we're going to chat about how you can make Black
- 0:45Speaker 1: Friday work harder for you for a whole year and beyond,
- 0:49Speaker 1: rather than just one week of shopping or this month
- 0:52Speaker 1: one month of shopping. We'll get into that, but basically,
- 0:56Speaker 1: how you can capitalize the most on the Black Friday
- 1:00Speaker 1: deals and discounts for a longer period than just one
- 1:05Speaker 1: week or one month.
- 1:06Speaker 3: But before we get into it, what's your obsession of
- 1:08Speaker 3: the week.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Okay, has to be the Wicked movie.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Okay, that was my obsession, So we can go into
- 1:14Speaker 4: it together, Okay, obsessed, sessed, Like we went and saw
- 1:20Speaker 4: it on like the preview nights, so the night before
- 1:22Speaker 4: it actually comes out.
- 1:24Speaker 1: And it was just just stopping for like three hours,
- 1:29Speaker 1: like we couldn't cope.
- 1:31Speaker 2: It was fucking amazing.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I've just been listening to the soundtrack exclusively for the
- 1:36Speaker 1: last what four days.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Yeah, the soundtrack is really good.
- 1:40Speaker 4: They did such an amazing job with the soundtrack, with
- 1:43Speaker 4: the casting.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I was really really happy with it.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think there's I don't have a single critique.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah. I saw a TikTok and.
- 1:51Speaker 1: It was someone like they went with their boyfriend and
- 1:54Speaker 1: their boyfriend had like typed into their phone because I
- 1:57Speaker 1: anyon want.
- 1:57Speaker 2: To say, oh not, like why the fuck are they
- 1:59Speaker 2: always singing?
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yes?
- 2:01Speaker 3: Like, how do you not.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Know that Wicked is a musical?
- 2:03Speaker 3: Honestly?
- 2:04Speaker 1: Like, surely even if you haven't seen the musical, surely
- 2:07Speaker 1: you've seen an ad for.
- 2:08Speaker 2: The movie which has all the show the singing in it.
- 2:13Speaker 2: But I'm just being defensive because I love it so much.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Okay, let's get into it all right, we need to
- 2:25Speaker 1: have I feel like it goes without saying that this
- 2:30Speaker 1: year's Black Friday is the most unhinged thing that has
- 2:33Speaker 1: ever graced a sales period. This is a message for
- 2:38Speaker 1: brands and brands only, can we please go back to
- 2:41Speaker 1: Black Friday just being on like one day, then like
- 2:44Speaker 1: the weekend, then Cyber Monday, Like, can we just put
- 2:46Speaker 1: Black Friday back to one to three days? Because this
- 2:49Speaker 1: is way too much. It's confusing as a consumer. There's
- 2:53Speaker 1: way too many sales, and I feel like the sales
- 2:57Speaker 1: because they're going for a longer period of time, are
- 2:59Speaker 1: a small sale, like it's less competitive, rather than just
- 3:02Speaker 1: one day where it's like a big fuck off sale.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And then we can compare them all they're all changing
- 3:08Speaker 1: and going on different days, and it's like a beautiful
- 3:12Speaker 1: mind where we're trying to make the cheat sheet and
- 3:14Speaker 1: I'm like pulling in all these dates. And the thing
- 3:17Speaker 1: is as well, brands are feeling it too, Like when
- 3:19Speaker 1: we've been talking with brands, everyone will like send us
- 3:23Speaker 1: their sale for the cheat sheet in advance, and then
- 3:26Speaker 1: we get like another email and it's like, oh, by
- 3:28Speaker 1: the way, we're changing it. We're starting earlier because everyone
- 3:30Speaker 1: else has started earlier. Yeah, so why don't we all
- 3:33Speaker 1: collectively agree that next year we're not going to do this,
- 3:39Speaker 1: and we're just gonna do it on Black Friday, like
- 3:41Speaker 1: we all promised, yeah, like when Black Friday actually is.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Yeah, because I get why people are so confused.
- 3:48Speaker 4: People don't know when to shop, I think, and also
- 3:50Speaker 4: people are fatigued by the sale because we had click
- 3:53Speaker 4: Frenzy in the middle of the month that was.
- 3:56Speaker 2: A whole other can of worms. Clickfrenzy is normally in October.
- 4:00Speaker 4: They only have two weeks between technically click Frenzy and
- 4:04Speaker 4: the official Black Friday, like early sales side, and I
- 4:09Speaker 4: think there's just choice paralysis for people.
- 4:11Speaker 3: They don't know what to expect.
- 4:13Speaker 4: They're thinking that a better deal is going to come
- 4:15Speaker 4: on actual Black Friday.
- 4:16Speaker 3: It probably won't.
- 4:17Speaker 1: It's probably just it's probably like people saying stopping their
- 4:20Speaker 1: sales before the actual Black Friday, Like it's confusing. So
- 4:25Speaker 1: if you are feeling overwhelmed by Black Friday, we're basically
- 4:28Speaker 1: saying this not to be negative nancies, but to just say, yes,
- 4:32Speaker 1: that's okay that you're feeling like that. If you are
- 4:35Speaker 1: feeling overwhelmed by Black Friday. This year has been probably
- 4:39Speaker 1: the most overwhelming version of Black Friday we have ever seen.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I've been a shopping journalist since I was twenty one,
- 4:45Speaker 1: so like two years.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Try seven, actually fuck try eight. Shit.
- 4:52Speaker 1: You know, Black Fridays starting early would be the Monday
- 4:55Speaker 1: of the week of Black Friday. Starting a whole month
- 4:58Speaker 1: before Black Friday actually start is ridiculous, and we all
- 5:01Speaker 1: need to collectively agree that next year we're not going
- 5:04Speaker 1: to do that because we've been trying to update this
- 5:06Speaker 1: cheat sheet and we are tired.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Bro.
- 5:09Speaker 1: We are slippy sales in there, like every morning being
- 5:12Speaker 1: like another and another new sale.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:16Speaker 1: So that's kind of why this year, with this episode,
- 5:20Speaker 1: we decided to do it a little bit differently because
- 5:23Speaker 1: Black Friday this year is different. So we have kind
- 5:26Speaker 1: of analyzed what's out there at the moment and how
- 5:29Speaker 1: you can use Black Friday to work harder and smarter
- 5:33Speaker 1: for you rather than just shopping kind of in the
- 5:35Speaker 1: moment and looking forward and seeing how you can actually
- 5:38Speaker 1: save on the things that are important and going to
- 5:41Speaker 1: last you a really long time, rather than just getting
- 5:44Speaker 1: like another pair of blue jeans for like twenty percent off.
- 5:47Speaker 4: So we're gonna run through our Black Friday does and dites.
- 5:52Speaker 1: So I actually got an email from the Iconic and
- 5:55Speaker 1: I just thought. I love reading like a report, and
- 5:59Speaker 1: apparently these are the most shopped Black Friday items this year,
- 6:04Speaker 1: So I feel like this is helpful to know in
- 6:06Speaker 1: terms of like Christmas presents, which we're going to get
- 6:08Speaker 1: into later, but the most wanted items this Black Friday,
- 6:13Speaker 1: according to the Iconic. In terms of men's it's the
- 6:17Speaker 1: Van's Old school sneakers, the Nike Free METCN six, the
- 6:22Speaker 1: Dickies eleven inch Relaxed Fit Carpenter Denim shorts, the Thrills
- 6:28Speaker 1: Minimal Thrills, merch Fitty, and the Polo Ralph Lreen Iconic
- 6:33Speaker 1: Oxford shirt and crocs was also in there. And then
- 6:37Speaker 1: for women, it was the Air Linen wide legged pants,
- 6:43Speaker 1: the Linen button down Converse, Chuck Taylor All Star platforms.
- 6:47Speaker 3: That's use, I need a new pair.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Oh there you go by myself, some new Balance three
- 6:54Speaker 1: two sevens and Doc Martins. And then in terms of beauty,
- 6:57Speaker 1: the most wanted beauty items for Black Friday is the
- 7:00Speaker 1: Clinique Almost Lipstick in black Honey, the Benefit Cosmetic beneitit
- 7:04Speaker 1: the Pride of Paradox. I'm gonna claim that, I'm gonna
- 7:08Speaker 1: say that everyone wants that because of me just kidding.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Ultra Violet Supreme Screen, hydrating facial skin screen, and the
- 7:15Speaker 1: Bondai Boost in for a bounce brush.
- 7:17Speaker 3: It's interesting.
- 7:18Speaker 4: I feel like all of those things are classics, yes
- 7:21Speaker 4: on the list, which is good.
- 7:23Speaker 1: So one way that you can make Black Friday work
- 7:26Speaker 1: harder for you is to shop kind of the unsexy sales.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Now bear with me, they might not sound exciting, but
- 7:35Speaker 1: trust me, you're gonna save so much more money in
- 7:37Speaker 1: the long run. But it's looking at unconventional or unsexy
- 7:41Speaker 1: sales such as fitness memberships, subscriptions, also groceries and home
- 7:49Speaker 1: and tech. So, for example, there are a lot of
- 7:53Speaker 1: gyms and like fitness memberships that go on sale during
- 7:58Speaker 1: Black Friday.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Two main ones that we've seen is KX.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Pilates, which is dropping on Thursday twenty eighth, and you
- 8:04Speaker 1: can kind of buying bulk classes or packs. I reckon
- 8:07Speaker 1: class Pass will also do one.
- 8:09Speaker 2: That's just a prediction. I don't know one hundred percent.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Brands like Fitness person Anytime Fitness they quite often.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Do Black Friday sales.
- 8:16Speaker 1: They also quite often do New Year sales too, and
- 8:20Speaker 1: also kick the kick aut from Steph Claire Smith and
- 8:23Speaker 1: Laura Henshaw. They have a fifty percent off for your
- 8:26Speaker 1: first month. So looking at things like that and it's like, Okay,
- 8:31Speaker 1: this is actually going to save me money potentially for
- 8:34Speaker 1: the next year, potentially for the next six months, and
- 8:37Speaker 1: that's something that I'm using consistently. That's something in my
- 8:40Speaker 1: day to day that I'm saving money on. Another one
- 8:43Speaker 1: is your subscriptions. I want more of these on sale. Yeah,
- 8:46Speaker 1: Like I want to cancel all my subscriptions and then
- 8:49Speaker 1: repurchase them all on Black Friday. One I've seen is
- 8:53Speaker 1: Binge who're doing four ninety nine per month for twelve months,
- 8:57Speaker 1: so that subscription then comes down to five dollars per
- 9:00Speaker 1: month for the next twelve months. But you're getting your
- 9:03Speaker 1: savings during Black Friday, but it's lasting for a year.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And Disney Plus often do a Black Friday sale as well,
- 9:10Speaker 1: and these sales will be more out of pocket in
- 9:14Speaker 1: the moment because you're purchasing it for the whole year,
- 9:17Speaker 1: but when you break it down month by month, you're
- 9:19Speaker 1: saving more.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Yeah, And if it's something that you're already going to
- 9:22Speaker 4: spend money on anyway, then it's a no brainer to
- 9:27Speaker 4: sign up during Black Friday.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I kind of look at subscriptions like that when it's
- 9:31Speaker 1: for the whole year, and it's like that girl math
- 9:33Speaker 1: of when you pay for your holiday in advance.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Then when you get to the holiday, you're like, it's free. Yeah,
- 9:39Speaker 2: obviously it's.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Not, but still you're saving money in this instance, you
- 9:43Speaker 4: are saving money in the long run exact taking advantage
- 9:46Speaker 4: of the Black Friday offer. It's so funny when we've
- 9:49Speaker 4: been doing our online shop with us during the sale
- 9:52Speaker 4: season and we ask you chicks to send in what
- 9:54Speaker 4: you're shopping and what you want us to find for
- 9:56Speaker 4: you on sale. So often we get groceries. Yeah, like please,
- 10:02Speaker 4: I really want to just save money on my grocery shopping.
- 10:05Speaker 4: And I think that's not something that we technically think
- 10:07Speaker 4: about when we look at Black Friday. But you can
- 10:10Speaker 4: get non perishables such as dish washing tablets, laundry detergent,
- 10:14Speaker 4: other household items like that on sale during Black Friday
- 10:18Speaker 4: from places like Amazon.
- 10:20Speaker 3: I've also seen shot.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Back regularly do upsized cash back offers with some grocery
- 10:27Speaker 4: stores and with liquor.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Stores and places like that as well.
- 10:30Speaker 4: So even if they're not necessarily doing a Black Friday sale,
- 10:34Speaker 4: you can still get bang for your buck on your
- 10:36Speaker 4: groceries and on like your everyday items.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I've seen like Big w as well, and I
- 10:44Speaker 1: do think Cole's do a Black Friday sale as well.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Also check out the Reject Shop that they're always so
- 10:50Speaker 1: good for like cleaning items.
- 10:52Speaker 4: And then also hygiene items like toothbrushes. Period undies we've
- 10:56Speaker 4: seen you by Cootex has a sale on at the
- 10:58Speaker 4: moment on Amazon.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Yeple gone in.
- 11:00Speaker 2: The cheat sheet love a period undee.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's like another thing that you know that
- 11:04Speaker 4: you'll be purchasing throughout the year, so you may as
- 11:07Speaker 4: well buy it on sale because it's a non.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Perishable and period undies last so fucking long and they're
- 11:12Speaker 1: the best thing. And it's so good when this is
- 11:14Speaker 1: me every single time of the month. Whenever I don't
- 11:17Speaker 1: have my period, I have five billion tampons everywhere. Whenever
- 11:20Speaker 1: I have my period, not a single tampon none can
- 11:23Speaker 1: be found. But doesn't matter, never fear. I have period unders.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're the best and I love them.
- 11:29Speaker 4: I always feel like such a put together human when
- 11:32Speaker 4: I know my period's coming.
- 11:34Speaker 3: So I'm wearing period undies, you know, I'm ready for you,
- 11:36Speaker 3: and I'm like, yeah, that's right, I'm organized.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:41Speaker 1: And then lastly is like your home tech items like
- 11:45Speaker 1: a vacuum cleaner or kindles. Kindles often go on the
- 11:49Speaker 1: best sale during Black Friday, and it's going to save
- 11:52Speaker 1: your money in the long term of not having to
- 11:54Speaker 1: buy books. You just buy it on your kindle. And
- 11:56Speaker 1: then also washing machines. I know I die on this here,
- 12:00Speaker 1: but my washer dry machine is the best thing I've
- 12:03Speaker 1: ever spent my fucking money on.
- 12:05Speaker 2: I love her. She's the best. So think of those
- 12:07Speaker 2: items that you need.
- 12:09Speaker 1: And you're like, oh, it's not very sexy, it's not
- 12:11Speaker 1: very fun, but I promise you, when you have it
- 12:14Speaker 1: and you're using it, like every single fucking day, you're
- 12:17Speaker 1: gonna be like, oh, I'm so glad I got this
- 12:18Speaker 1: and I got it on sale.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Our next do for Black Friday is Christmas shopping, of course,
- 12:24Speaker 4: so we always say this, do your Christmas shopping during
- 12:28Speaker 4: Black Friday. This is the last big sale event before
- 12:32Speaker 4: Christmas and your last chance to do your shopping on sale. Also,
- 12:37Speaker 4: we're a month away from Christmas now, it gives you
- 12:39Speaker 4: plenty of time to order things online and ensure that
- 12:43Speaker 4: it will come on time before Christmas, and then you're
- 12:45Speaker 4: not doing the mad rush on Christmas Eve in the
- 12:48Speaker 4: shops buying things in store.
- 12:51Speaker 2: You're like, what kind of adrenaline about choke? Can I
- 12:54Speaker 2: get them?
- 12:55Speaker 4: Every fucking It's always been your dad and it's always
- 12:59Speaker 4: like the whole race car.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Driving one and you're like, yeah, all right, and then
- 13:04Speaker 2: you've got to find a printer, you know.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Or you do like the screenshot and send it to morn. Yeah,
- 13:11Speaker 4: it's just not the vibe.
- 13:13Speaker 3: So definitely do your Christmas shopping at this time of year.
- 13:16Speaker 1: That is an order for obvious reasons. We have to
- 13:20Speaker 1: say use the Two broa Chicks cheat sheet. This again
- 13:25Speaker 1: has been such a big cheat sheet this year. We
- 13:28Speaker 1: were going to split it over to overclick Frenzy and
- 13:31Speaker 1: Black Friday, but it just made sense to kind of
- 13:34Speaker 1: keep running and keep updating it daily.
- 13:36Speaker 2: With the way that sales have worked this year.
- 13:38Speaker 1: However, this year we decided that we wanted to donate
- 13:41Speaker 1: all of our affiliate revenue across our Instagram, our Facebook group,
- 13:45Speaker 1: all of it to charity for Victims of domestic violence,
- 13:48Speaker 1: the People of Palestine and Sydney Dogs and Cats home
- 13:51Speaker 1: and it's not even Black Friday yet and we've already
- 13:53Speaker 1: raised over three thousand dollars, which is just so amazing
- 13:57Speaker 1: and just so good that it just kind of makes
- 14:00Speaker 1: all the updating and you know, scaring of the internet
- 14:04Speaker 1: completely worth it, because I'm just glad that we could
- 14:07Speaker 1: do a little bit more and give a bit more
- 14:09Speaker 1: back as well as help save people money. And I
- 14:13Speaker 1: think the cheat sheet is there as a way to
- 14:16Speaker 1: help you navigate the mess that is this US sale season,
- 14:20Speaker 1: because it is messy, So how to use the cheat
- 14:24Speaker 1: sheet because we have had a few comments this year,
- 14:26Speaker 1: which is so fair enough because it's busy in there,
- 14:29Speaker 1: like it's getting updated with new sales and coming soon
- 14:31Speaker 1: and all that stuff. Of how to use the cheat
- 14:33Speaker 1: sheet to the best of its abilities. So the cheat
- 14:37Speaker 1: sheet is broken up by category of fashion, beauty, home, travel.
- 14:41Speaker 1: You can have a scroll and it's broken up by
- 14:44Speaker 1: all these categories of what you want to shop in.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Fashion just has everything in it in terms of active
- 14:49Speaker 1: wear and like underwear and clothing because so often now
- 14:53Speaker 1: brands just are across all categories and it's too difficult
- 14:57Speaker 1: to break them out. And that way you can kind
- 14:59Speaker 1: of see exactly what you're shopping for, and it's.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Alphabetical because we were.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Going to do it in like as sending order of
- 15:06Speaker 1: the best sales, but that kind of just promotes you
- 15:10Speaker 1: to buy things just because it's on sale, whereas when
- 15:13Speaker 1: it's alphabetical, you're going in there with intention and being like, Okay,
- 15:17Speaker 1: I know I want to buy something from Dish, I'm
- 15:20Speaker 1: going to go alphabetically down.
- 15:21Speaker 2: To the d and shop that sale.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Or if you're shopping something from Kmart, you know where
- 15:27Speaker 1: to go, or you can just command f and find it.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's how it's laid out.
- 15:32Speaker 1: And then you also have the Small Business tab, which
- 15:36Speaker 1: is also a new little edition this year that we
- 15:37Speaker 1: wanted to have a small Business tab so that we
- 15:40Speaker 1: could promote smaller businesses that are also having Black Friday sales,
- 15:44Speaker 1: but it's really really hard for them to break through
- 15:46Speaker 1: the noise and like the marketing spend that really big
- 15:50Speaker 1: brands have.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Or you know, they might have services that are a
- 15:54Speaker 4: little bit more localized as well. So yeah, that's a
- 15:57Speaker 4: really fun ddition this year because you know, we also
- 15:59Speaker 4: love to small and support small Australian businesses, so definitely
- 16:03Speaker 4: check out that tap if you haven't already.
- 16:05Speaker 3: And then we also have a.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Few exclusive deals that are just for you chicks. And
- 16:12Speaker 4: we partnered up with quite a few brands who are
- 16:14Speaker 4: offering additional discounts on top of their sales, early access
- 16:19Speaker 4: to their sales, or just exclusive discount codes if they
- 16:22Speaker 4: weren't already running a Black Friday sale that are.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Just for you chicks.
- 16:26Speaker 1: So some that we have exclusives with is Pepper, Mao, Charcol.
- 16:30Speaker 4: Clothing Style, Runner, Lust, Minerals, Lovington, Doc Muttons at the
- 16:36Speaker 4: top of each of the categories, So whether that is fashion, shoes, accessories, etc.
- 16:42Speaker 3: We do have all the exclusives listed.
- 16:44Speaker 4: At the top so you can see all of those
- 16:46Speaker 4: exclusive discy codes there for you chicks. And then, of course,
- 16:50Speaker 4: another very important part of the cheat sheet is the
- 16:53Speaker 4: shop back column, which is where you can see everywhere
- 16:57Speaker 4: you can earn cash back on top of the sales
- 17:01Speaker 4: this Black Friday. So our next tip is brought to
- 17:03Speaker 4: you by the sponsor of today's episode, our good Friends.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Our best is at shot back Because.
- 17:10Speaker 4: Sales season or no sale season, we never make a
- 17:13Speaker 4: purchase without checking if we can get cash back through
- 17:15Speaker 4: shot back first. But this is especially true during Black Friday.
- 17:20Speaker 4: You can earn cash back on top of the savings
- 17:23Speaker 4: that you'll be getting for the sale. And shot Back
- 17:26Speaker 4: is partnered with over four thousand brands. There are so
- 17:30Speaker 4: many of your favorite brands that are partnered with shot
- 17:33Speaker 4: Back that you can get cash back with brands that
- 17:35Speaker 4: you're already going to be spending with this Black Friday
- 17:38Speaker 4: and beyond and for Black Friday, shot Back also has
- 17:42Speaker 4: huge upsized cash back offers happening over the sale period,
- 17:46Speaker 4: so you can earn even more cash back than you
- 17:49Speaker 4: usually would throughout the year. We have these all listed
- 17:52Speaker 4: out in the cheat sheet, but two examples that we've got.
- 17:55Speaker 4: On actual Black Friday, the twenty ninth of November, you
- 17:58Speaker 4: can get up to twenty seven percent cash back capped
- 18:02Speaker 4: at thirty dollars with added asses up to fifty percent
- 18:05Speaker 4: off Black Friday sale, and you can also get up
- 18:09Speaker 4: to twenty two percent cash.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Back with Meyer not bad.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Yeah, So keep an eye out on that column to
- 18:15Speaker 4: see where you can be getting your upsize cashbacks. But
- 18:18Speaker 4: make sure you've downloaded the shop back app and that
- 18:20Speaker 4: you've got the plug in on your web browser, because
- 18:23Speaker 4: you'll get a notification also as well whenever you can
- 18:26Speaker 4: get cash back, so if.
- 18:27Speaker 3: You're unsure, it literally tells you.
- 18:29Speaker 4: And of course, if you are new to shop back,
- 18:32Speaker 4: you can sign up for free via the link in
- 18:34Speaker 4: our description and you'll get a twenty dollars cashback bonus
- 18:38Speaker 4: with our code two bread chicks.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Gorgeous.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Yeah, love it all right, and our final do is
- 18:45Speaker 1: easily one of the most popular questions we get every
- 18:47Speaker 1: sale season, and it's are they going to be any
- 18:50Speaker 1: travel deals?
- 18:51Speaker 2: And why yes, yes there are.
- 18:54Speaker 1: There's actually a dedicated travel day for Black Friday, and
- 18:59Speaker 1: it's called Travel Tuesday. And this is the day where
- 19:02Speaker 1: a lot of travel brands, like airlines, hotels, they all
- 19:06Speaker 1: go on sale and it's the third of December. It's
- 19:09Speaker 1: like the Black Friday for travel sales, and you can
- 19:12Speaker 1: get a bunch of deals on airlines, flights.
- 19:15Speaker 2: That's the same thing.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Accommodation experiences, all that hullabaloo, and it's one of the
- 19:20Speaker 1: best things you can do because, as we've said, when
- 19:22Speaker 1: you pay for a holiday in advance, when you go on.
- 19:25Speaker 2: The holiday, it's free.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Yeah, And we can't tell you exactly what the sale
- 19:29Speaker 1: is because it's under embargo. But tomorrow after this episode
- 19:33Speaker 1: comes out, So on the twenty seventh, Virgin is gonna
- 19:36Speaker 1: drop their Black Friday sale. I just think that's easily
- 19:39Speaker 1: one of the best things that you can do. If
- 19:41Speaker 1: you know that you're gonna have a holiday coming up,
- 19:43Speaker 1: like you want to go to Bali in like March,
- 19:45Speaker 1: or you go on a europe for Eurosummer, like, do
- 19:48Speaker 1: all of your booking then.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Like we always say, it pays to book in advance
- 19:54Speaker 4: across everything when it comes to travel.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and so that's definitely one thing that I would
- 19:59Speaker 1: like that I'm going to be looking at for any
- 20:01Speaker 1: upcoming holidays and just to make deals you can get
- 20:04Speaker 1: for even like a weekend away.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Or those tiny homes. I want to go to a tiny.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Home, Sam, it looks so quaint, go on a little
- 20:11Speaker 4: weekend getaway.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Yeah, all right.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Shall we go into our don'ts So you had a
- 20:17Speaker 1: really good tip for your don'ts our first, don't don't
- 20:21Speaker 1: just buy it because it's on sale. Yeah. I've seen
- 20:24Speaker 1: like seventeen billion videos saying this, and every time I'm.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Like like, yeah, well, it's so true because I think
- 20:30Speaker 4: a lot of us get swept up in you know,
- 20:33Speaker 4: the magic that is a good old Black Friday sale
- 20:36Speaker 4: and the marketing that comes with it. Do you know what, though,
- 20:38Speaker 4: I feel like this year is like the least people
- 20:41Speaker 4: have been swept up in it though, because everyone's like.
- 20:44Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 20:45Speaker 4: Yeah, because I think choice paralysis exactly, the choice paralysis,
- 20:49Speaker 4: the sale fatigue. It's too much. People are like, I'm
- 20:53Speaker 4: just not even going to spend any money. But something
- 20:55Speaker 4: that we have seen when we've been working on the
- 20:58Speaker 4: cheat sheet is that we've noticed that a lot of
- 21:00Speaker 4: brands are doing the same sales that they were doing
- 21:03Speaker 4: for after Payday, for click Frenzy, for end of financial year,
- 21:06Speaker 4: and their sales have been pretty consistent throughout the year.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Whereas in the past, Black Friday was usually the big
- 21:12Speaker 4: kahuna where brands were doing their absolute best, most competitive sales.
- 21:17Speaker 3: This is still definitely happening in some cases.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Yea, with some brands.
- 21:20Speaker 1: There's definitely sales that we're like, fuck, that's good again.
- 21:23Speaker 1: You could argue the thing of being like to brands,
- 21:25Speaker 1: oh you a sale, Yeah, like not really, But if
- 21:29Speaker 1: you want people to shop and get a good deal,
- 21:31Speaker 1: then yeah, if.
- 21:32Speaker 4: You're unsure if a brand that you're looking at is
- 21:35Speaker 4: offering a competitive sale, or if it's a sale that
- 21:39Speaker 4: is sort of run of the mill that they do
- 21:41Speaker 4: every single sale season.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Look back through.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Your email inbox and any edms that you may have
- 21:46Speaker 4: got from the brands that you subscribe to, have a
- 21:49Speaker 4: scroll back through their Instagram feed, or if you still
- 21:52Speaker 4: have the links, go back and look at our cheat
- 21:55Speaker 4: sheets from previous sale seasons, and you'll be able to
- 21:58Speaker 4: see if a brand and is offering a deal that
- 22:02Speaker 4: is more competitive than usual, or if this is something
- 22:05Speaker 4: that you probably can expect again when after Payday rolls
- 22:07Speaker 4: around in a boxing day or Boxing day or whatever,
- 22:11Speaker 4: and whether or not you want to use the money
- 22:13Speaker 4: that you've got currently for that purchase, or if maybe
- 22:16Speaker 4: that's something that you would want to hold off on,
- 22:18Speaker 4: or you know, you can kind of take away some
- 22:20Speaker 4: of that shine and make you realize, oh, this actually
- 22:22Speaker 4: isn't that competitive of a deal.
- 22:24Speaker 3: I don't really need it. I was getting excited. That's
- 22:26Speaker 3: across way.
- 22:27Speaker 1: I think it's also a good thing because I think
- 22:30Speaker 1: people are being a little bit more mindful with what
- 22:34Speaker 1: they're shopping because there is so much going on, and
- 22:36Speaker 1: because like I don't know, some of the sales aren't
- 22:38Speaker 1: that good. We're getting a little bit less wrapped up
- 22:41Speaker 1: in it, which I think is good, Like people are
- 22:43Speaker 1: actually just shopping for what they need or Christmas presents
- 22:46Speaker 1: rather than like just shopping for the sake of it.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Yeah, our next one is too.
- 22:50Speaker 1: That is really easy to forget, but it saves you
- 22:53Speaker 1: so much more money. Is don't forget to price match
- 22:56Speaker 1: and check the returns policy. So price matching is easily
- 23:00Speaker 1: the best way that you can save money. It's turning
- 23:02Speaker 1: into like the mob boss being like, hey, I saw
- 23:04Speaker 1: Harvey Norman had this deal for one hundred dollars off.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Why don't you give me something a bit that's sweetish
- 23:09Speaker 1: sugar honey exactly like that.
- 23:11Speaker 2: I'll send you. I'll send you a link to say
- 23:13Speaker 2: it exactly.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll send you a script.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Yeah you can send I'll send you a voice note.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Just send that to them. But a lot of brands
- 23:19Speaker 2: price match that you might not realize, like.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Maya, David Jones, Harvey Norman, JB High Fi, the iconic
- 23:24Speaker 1: Rebel Sport, Strand, and also Chemist Warehouse. So go to
- 23:28Speaker 1: these brands and be like, Okay, well they're doing this,
- 23:31Speaker 1: what can you do?
- 23:32Speaker 2: And some maybe we'll just match the price.
- 23:35Speaker 1: But that's when you can maybe combine it with an
- 23:37Speaker 1: upside cash back offer or use a voucher that you
- 23:40Speaker 1: might have, or get free shipping or get free shipping,
- 23:43Speaker 1: or even maybe do it with points if you want
- 23:45Speaker 1: to do it that way, Like how can you maximize
- 23:48Speaker 1: a sale with other rewards or other benefits and get
- 23:52Speaker 1: more money back from it. Sometimes they have like beat
- 23:55Speaker 1: it by ten percent policies, and sometimes you can look
- 23:57Speaker 1: at other ways like cash back or points or free
- 23:59Speaker 1: shit being and then do not forget to check the
- 24:02Speaker 1: returns policies. I do feel like a lot of brands
- 24:05Speaker 1: are a lot better now with sale items. But if
- 24:08Speaker 1: you see anything that says like final sale or like
- 24:11Speaker 1: no exchanges on no returns on this sale item, don't
- 24:15Speaker 1: do it unless you've already tried it on and you
- 24:18Speaker 1: already know you love.
- 24:18Speaker 2: It in store.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I swear half the time you end up getting it
- 24:22Speaker 1: and you're like, oh shit, I can't return this, and
- 24:24Speaker 1: then you've got to put it on deep.
- 24:25Speaker 4: Up like a quarter of the price our final don't
- 24:29Speaker 4: don't wait until Cyber Monday.
- 24:31Speaker 3: If you really want something.
- 24:34Speaker 4: On Cyber Monday, you'll typically see a further sale on
- 24:37Speaker 4: already existing reduced items, or you may see like a
- 24:42Speaker 4: reduction on a specific edit.
- 24:45Speaker 3: It's very rare that it's like a completely new sale,
- 24:47Speaker 3: Like you're probably not gonna.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I'm not even sure we're going to be seeing Cyber
- 24:51Speaker 1: Monday sales this year.
- 24:52Speaker 4: From what we've seen so far, we haven't seen too
- 24:56Speaker 4: many changes over Cyber weekend. It's pretty much the same
- 25:01Speaker 4: from what they've already dropped now or what they're dropping
- 25:04Speaker 4: on Black Friday, over the weekend.
- 25:07Speaker 3: And on Cyber Monday.
- 25:09Speaker 4: But I would say that even in the past, you
- 25:11Speaker 4: would very rarely see an even more competitive offer on
- 25:15Speaker 4: Cyber Monday. So I think that if there's something that
- 25:18Speaker 4: you really want that has been on your wish list,
- 25:20Speaker 4: you need to weigh up do I want to get
- 25:22Speaker 4: it now and take advantage of the current sale, or
- 25:25Speaker 4: do I want to risk it potentially selling out or
- 25:29Speaker 4: the sale being less competitive on Cyber Monday. So many
- 25:33Speaker 4: of us have that FOMO being like, oh, but what
- 25:36Speaker 4: if they drop a better deal, but you just like
- 25:38Speaker 4: his twenty dollars off worth it worth missing out together?
- 25:43Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 25:43Speaker 1: Or actually we get into advice with the chicks.
- 25:50Speaker 4: Hey, chicks, I love your podcast. It brings me so
- 25:53Speaker 4: much laughter and love. Your friendship truthfully makes me jealous,
- 25:56Speaker 4: which leads to my dilemma. This time last year, my
- 26:00Speaker 4: two best friends ended up giving me an unexpected intervention
- 26:04Speaker 4: about my toxic job that I was trying to leave
- 26:07Speaker 4: and actually did a month later and my partner. What
- 26:11Speaker 4: happened then was one of them stopped talking to me
- 26:15Speaker 4: in brackets. It's awkward with the other, but we are
- 26:17Speaker 4: trying to make it work.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Feels weird to not be a trio anymore.
- 26:21Speaker 4: When I finally got the guts to ask what the
- 26:23Speaker 4: go was, she told me we were emotional crutches for
- 26:27Speaker 4: one another and could remain friends with topic limits, work, money, relationship.
- 26:32Speaker 4: I never responded to that text because it felt like
- 26:35Speaker 4: an ultimatum that wasn't fair. We now haven't spoken since January.
- 26:40Speaker 4: I even got engaged since, and she said nothing. And
- 26:44Speaker 4: I miss her so much. She was my person best
- 26:47Speaker 4: friend of seven years. We went to markets, out for drinks,
- 26:51Speaker 4: regular hot girl walks, and just hung out all the time.
- 26:54Speaker 4: I miss her so much and am feeling so alone.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Said toxic job and poor mental health also left me
- 27:00Speaker 4: pretty friendless, while I miss her terribly part of me
- 27:03Speaker 4: isn't sure if I'm wanting to reach out because I'm
- 27:06Speaker 4: just lonely. Advice, help and positive vibes would be appreciated.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Chicks, Oh, that's so rough. So it's like, did they
- 27:17Speaker 1: So they had an intervention for her and it was like,
- 27:21Speaker 1: this toxic job is like affecting you and therefore affecting
- 27:25Speaker 1: our friendship.
- 27:26Speaker 3: I think, so.
- 27:28Speaker 4: Like she like vibe or maybe being like you have
- 27:32Speaker 4: to leave this job.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Like, it's hard to say what it was because I don't.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Know if that's a friends like.
- 27:38Speaker 4: I feel like we've done that with friends before, though
- 27:41Speaker 4: not in terms of an ultimatum, being like we're you're friends,
- 27:43Speaker 4: but we're not.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Going to be friends with you unless you leave your
- 27:45Speaker 2: toxic job.
- 27:47Speaker 4: But we've sort of but I don't think that's what
- 27:49Speaker 4: has happened initially. I think they didn't you say it
- 27:52Speaker 4: was an ultimatum that was afterwards.
- 27:54Speaker 3: So the initial conversation was like an intervention.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Job and also about her partner, So I don't know
- 28:02Speaker 4: what's happened next.
- 28:02Speaker 3: She said that she's since been.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Engaged, right, so they didn't like her partner as well, perhaps, and.
- 28:07Speaker 4: It's hard to know without knowings how much you know
- 28:11Speaker 4: you were relying on your friends inventing to them about
- 28:14Speaker 4: these things, and if they're giving you advice over and
- 28:17Speaker 4: over again and perhaps you're not taking it, and they
- 28:18Speaker 4: can see that it's having a toll on you because
- 28:20Speaker 4: you've said that you know you were in some toxic
- 28:23Speaker 4: situations that had an impact on your mental health, which
- 28:26Speaker 4: is totally understandable.
- 28:28Speaker 3: I do think, because you know, I have said in
- 28:30Speaker 3: the past.
- 28:31Speaker 4: That I have like my three strike rule or three
- 28:35Speaker 4: conversation rule when it comes to something like that, like
- 28:38Speaker 4: if it's a relationship where I feel like it's negative
- 28:43Speaker 4: and you know your friend keeps complaining to you about
- 28:45Speaker 4: it but won't do anything about it.
- 28:47Speaker 3: But I do always say, like if your friend genuinely needs.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Help, like that rule doesn't actually apply if they're in
- 28:52Speaker 4: like a genuinely toxic situation where they do need help,
- 28:56Speaker 4: like you should always just do whatever you can to
- 28:58Speaker 4: try and help your friend.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Out of that.
- 29:00Speaker 4: I just think that it also sounds like they had
- 29:04Speaker 4: this intervention and then she stopped speaking to you, and
- 29:08Speaker 4: then you reached out. She explained it, and then you
- 29:10Speaker 4: didn't reply. Yeah, so she sort of left the ball
- 29:15Speaker 4: in your court. And I do think that like your
- 29:18Speaker 4: engagement could have been a good opportunity for her to
- 29:20Speaker 4: reach out.
- 29:21Speaker 2: But also she doesn't like your.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Partner, then that wouldn't be sincere, Like she might not
- 29:27Speaker 4: reach want to reach out, or that might be complicated
- 29:29Speaker 4: for her to reach out and be like congratulations if
- 29:31Speaker 4: she isn't supportive of the relationship. You know, if this
- 29:35Speaker 4: has been hanging on your mind, and it could be
- 29:39Speaker 4: because you're lonely, it could be worth trying to have
- 29:42Speaker 4: a conversation with this friend in person, because so far
- 29:46Speaker 4: you've sent her a message, she sent you one back,
- 29:49Speaker 4: and you haven't replied, and the conversation has ended there
- 29:52Speaker 4: if you do want to give it another go and
- 29:55Speaker 4: give the friendship a chance, like you're only really going
- 29:57Speaker 4: to be able to have any sort of real resolution
- 29:59Speaker 4: or co conversation if you speak in person, I agree,
- 30:02Speaker 4: or at least over the phone if that's not possible
- 30:04Speaker 4: if you guys live far away from each.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Other or whatever. And I think that you know, it
- 30:09Speaker 3: could be a.
- 30:10Speaker 4: Case where the friendship has just run its course, but
- 30:13Speaker 4: maybe having that conversation will at least.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Help you get some closure.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Yeah, because there is like as soon as you said,
- 30:20Speaker 1: you know your friends for seven years, it reminded me
- 30:22Speaker 1: of the seven year friend theory and how every seven
- 30:26Speaker 1: years people very often either continue a friendship or they
- 30:32Speaker 1: develop like new friendships. And it's kind of like how
- 30:35Speaker 1: you know, when you're in high school that's seven years,
- 30:37Speaker 1: and then primary school that's seven years, and then like
- 30:40Speaker 1: your twenties, like you kind of have friendships and then
- 30:42Speaker 1: you will maybe cut the fat when you get into
- 30:46Speaker 1: your thirties of like the friendships that are actually really
- 30:48Speaker 1: high quality.
- 30:49Speaker 4: Yeah, or people move into different yeah, stages of their life,
- 30:52Speaker 4: so the friendship sort of Peter's off.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yeah, And so sometimes there just are those friendships that
- 30:58Speaker 1: don't necessarily make it past seven years. And I don't
- 31:02Speaker 1: think you'll know if this was one of those friendships
- 31:04Speaker 1: if you at least don't reach out and just try
- 31:08Speaker 1: and like shoot your shot, and if it doesn't work out,
- 31:10Speaker 1: then at least you know that, Okay, that's fine. That
- 31:13Speaker 1: was like a seasonal friendship and it served, you know,
- 31:17Speaker 1: a time in my life that I really enjoy and
- 31:19Speaker 1: I'm fond of those memories. But I guess, like, this
- 31:22Speaker 1: isn't a lifetime friendship, and that's okay too, but I
- 31:26Speaker 1: agree with you. Like I think from her perspective, she
- 31:30Speaker 1: might be looking at it as like she replied and
- 31:33Speaker 1: then didn't hear back, and so that she might be thinking, well,
- 31:37Speaker 1: why would I message again not to say and also
- 31:41Speaker 1: like we know, life just gets busy and then it's
- 31:44Speaker 1: been two weeks since you responded, and then you feel
- 31:46Speaker 1: a bit awkward.
- 31:46Speaker 2: So then you get like stressed about that you haven't.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Responded, So then you put it off because you're stressed
- 31:51Speaker 1: about it, and then it's like six months and you're like, well, fuck,
- 31:53Speaker 1: it's too late now. Yeah, but it's never too late
- 31:56Speaker 1: to reach out to someone and try to rekindle a
- 31:58Speaker 1: positive relationship if that's something that you want to do,
- 32:01Speaker 1: and it will only either get better or you'll be
- 32:04Speaker 1: in the same situation we are not talking, so you
- 32:06Speaker 1: might as well just give it a red hot crack.
- 32:08Speaker 1: But also think about maybe developing some new friendships if
- 32:11Speaker 1: you are feeling lonely, like maybe go to a pottery
- 32:13Speaker 1: class or a pilates class, or go to a cafe
- 32:16Speaker 1: and have a chat with someone there. Maybe try to
- 32:19Speaker 1: reach out to someone that maybe you're a little bit
- 32:21Speaker 1: more acquaintances.
- 32:22Speaker 2: With and develop more of a further friendship there.
- 32:24Speaker 1: If that is the reason why you think you're missing
- 32:26Speaker 1: this friend is because you're purely lonely, maybe look at
- 32:29Speaker 1: developing some other friendships as well.
- 32:31Speaker 2: That could probably be helpful.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Definitely suddenly, kisses in caddles.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Yes, yes, love you chick, Love you baber girl.
- 32:39Speaker 4: And for anyone else who wants to send in an
