- 4:02glad to see you, Johnny. Poss in your back and pop it.
- 4:05Okay? Sure? And where's this green Mountain falls? You're called a little
- 4:13place about twelve thirteen miles equal there. I'm staying at the Lucky four Ranch,
- 4:18one of the last places Rollanov was seen rollin off Amicia Rollanov the concert
- 4:24Jane, Oh sure, yeah, I he has a little place up on
- 4:28the mountain just back of the Lucky Floor where he and his daughters live when
- 4:31he's not on concert. Dallers, how many Olga Maria Ada now here's what
- 4:36happens, Rollandov and the girls. Well they're really stepped on it, by
- 4:41the way, Oh, where's the money? She died some years back?
- 4:45Or anyhow. They arrived up here about ten days ago, right after his
- 4:47last concert wing over in Europe. And what does he do when he's up
- 4:50here and the girl's just low? Oh? He has a count in his
- 4:55cottage to keep him practice the bats all and now you say he's disappeared,
- 5:00Johnny, He was fond of taking long walks. This is pretty good hiking
- 5:02country. I have seen that, all right, if your part both ago?
- 5:05Yeah, or anyhow? Three days ago, right after Breakmas, he
- 5:10started out on his usual morning walk. He stopped in for a second cup
- 5:14of coffee with Ray sch Mischni and his wife rain Glee has run the Lucky
- 5:17four. Oh yeah, well gone, that's all. That was the last
- 5:23time Rolling Off was seen. What was any kind of a search for me?
- 5:27Yes, and that's not easy to rain the search. There's been quite
- 5:30a bit of snow too, enough to cover up any tracks he might have
- 5:32made. All right, do you know any reason he might have wanted to
- 5:36dispe No? I don't think so. I knew him very well, Johnny.
- 5:41I've known him for years of court. He occasionally got up with having
- 5:46three girls around his neck off a time well after I'm sure, especially eight
- 5:51at the youngest. She's a brilliant gannet the earl tell me how did the
- 5:56girls feel about him? Oh no, just a minute, you said himself
- 6:00on his own blood. Well, just like, will you meet them?
- 6:03And aside for yourself? Yeah, I will. The Lucky Four was on
- 6:14a level spot on the set of them up. It consisted of half a
- 6:17dozen leads modern comfortable cottages, and from the front window of the one we
- 6:21shared with a beautiful view of Pike's people. Uh, oh, come in,
- 6:28Ray, come in see us, come up to drive. I want
- 6:31you to meet the man I've been telling you about race Missie. That is
- 6:34Johnny Dollars. Hi, raight, Johnny. Only I'm afraid he got here
- 6:39too later. Oh well, what do you mean, just a few minutes
- 6:42ago before you got back here in the gully up on the West Meadow,
- 6:45way up where I dumped the trash. You know what I mean? Yes,
- 6:47remember the bear cave I pointed out to you one day when you went
- 6:50up there with me in the jeep. You mean that bear got no,
- 6:56but that's where I found well enough, yeah, d a bullet hole in
- 7:00the back of his head. Back two if you're truly Johnny Dollar in a
- 7:09moment, two of your truly twenty dollars? A question? Was Misha running
- 7:16off the eminent conscious pianist murder? I was he shot accidentally up near the
- 7:21bear cave on the mountains the back of the Lucky four ranch at Green Mountains
- 7:25Fall, Colorado. We went up there and raised cheeks, a careful inspection
- 7:30of the body and the kelly, in which he found it to deal nothing
- 7:32by way of plus one thing done? What's that? Right? Like I
- 7:36told Earl here, I was finding to shoot that bear myself, letting him
- 7:41get nice and fat on the garbage from the ranch. He used to come
- 7:45down every day regular clockwork and tip over the PALESI and Georgians. Well,
- 7:48what are you trying to get? It's been over a week now since I've
- 7:50seen him. I don't see what you're getting at right. Well, it
- 7:54could mean only one thing or somebody else got to that bear before I could,
- 7:59and it must have been some time before rullingo discipline, that's right.
- 8:03So his being killed here couldn't have been accidental by somebody gunning for that bear.
- 8:07Look here, Johnny, it's cartridge case I picked up. Oh,
- 8:11let's see. Yeah, two fifty seven robbers. What'd you find it?
- 8:16Hying that tree there down the slope? You know anybody around here who shoot
- 8:18the two fifty seven robbers? All the hunters in these parts use a thirty
- 8:22odd six or two seventy or a thirty thirty. Only two fifty seven?
- 8:30Well, what's the matter? Right? It looks sick. Yeah, there's
- 8:35a two fifty seven up in the rolling off cottage. One of the girls.
- 8:41She's a pretty good shot. Right, you know what you're saying?
- 8:43One right, I'll get real ada now. No, I won't do it,
- 8:50Johnny. I won't to choose law. Look, this is no guessing
- 8:54game. This is murder. Dogg Johnny, I can't believe it, not
- 8:56one of them. Look, I got to drive into Colorado Springs notify the
- 9:03coroner and the police. But if you know something that will help us,
- 9:05No, no, Gonny, because if I was wrong, I'd never forgive
- 9:07me, don't you understand? Oh all right, earl, do you know
- 9:13the way after the rolling up lake? Yes? Rode all right to my
- 9:18car. Ray, Yeah, yeah, it's so let's go. Hey,
- 9:31take it easy, you're this road is which one is in the car?
- 9:35I know it? Rolling off cottage is right up in that clearing sidle of
- 9:39that thick metal. You know those daughters that god is You figure which one
- 9:45of them might have wanted to kill a running off? No? Got who's
- 9:48the benefici Well, it's a very unusual policy. What do you mean unusual?
- 9:54There's no beneficiary specifically named? What the beneficiary or beneficiaries are to be
- 10:01the same as the heirs, But they're spent to bite and rolling off the
- 10:03will? Well who nobody knows? Is well? Answer? Well, look
- 10:09here always made it very clear that his will would show up at the proper
- 10:13time. I assume, of course his stepdaughters will be there. But if
- 10:18they are not, oh this is a well enough cottage. Had a lot
- 10:26of cottage, and just as knife on the inside as it is on the
- 10:31outside. Rollinov used to complain now and then about some of the feminine strippery
- 10:37all around him. Wow, he likes it, and you're sure they all
- 10:39got along well again, of course, every family has a little spat once
- 10:45in a while. Johnny Johnny, I listened to me what we should see.
- 10:50I know that after what Race said, the evidence kind of seems to
- 10:52point to one or all of them. But well, yeah, oh hello.
- 11:01To say the girl who stepped through that door was beautiful would be the
- 11:03understatement of the week. Fall and striking dress in something that looks like Schipperella
- 11:09or Christian the yor as though she just stepped out of Child of the Rips,
- 11:13her two sisters, or anything like this. Johnny, I said,
- 11:20this is the older sister al Gorollanov. Johnny mhm. Oh oh, hi,
- 11:28Johnny, you're the investigator I told us about. Come in sure,
- 11:35thanks. Have you found out anything about daughter? Oh no, we haven't.
- 11:45That's terrible. Oh wait a minute, Johnny you wait. Hey,
- 11:48there we have Hello Helloada. And this would looking managed Johnny dollan Hi,
- 11:56you know, Oh that's a nice, warm welcome. Ada. Why don't
- 12:01you go in and fix your hair? You look a fright that plain old
- 12:05house there? Really, what's that you're playing? Ada's the last thing Daddy
- 12:11wrote. He wrote frantically in the morning, a much as those who knew
- 12:16something was going to happen to her. Oh come now, you had to
- 12:20write it before it did happened? Where were you Ada? In the morning?
- 12:24He left right here playing this for the first song? Think she disappeared.
- 12:30I've been trying to figure to Oh Ada, that's such a silly idea.
- 12:37What did you mean by that? Oh, it's really well, it's
- 12:41like a lot of other hilly ideas. She gets over her knees a lot
- 12:45of things. It's those sheets of did these concert artists in the family and
- 12:50said his daddy maybe, now that he's gone, I will be I would
- 12:54be greater than he ever won. Oh sure, and I'll do it the
- 12:58memory of you do it for your own self glorifications. I'm sorry, that's
- 13:05wrong, this lily. Where were you that morning? Olga calling out of
- 13:09spring? I went happening right after breakfast, or rather windows shopping. I
- 13:15need some new things so badly, and well, you know, I have
- 13:18to keep up with the child. And I looked like I was poor little
- 13:22artist here. So where was your other sister, Maria? I don't know,
- 13:28oh Ada, stop that. When I left the house, he and
- 13:31Ada were doing the distrie. You weren't helping her. I told you,
- 13:35Johnny, I had to go into the spring. Where is she now,
- 13:39oh, Marie is solidly out of the hill somewhere camping or all right here,
- 13:43Olga? How well, oh, come indy it this is Johnny Daller
- 13:50the investigator. Earl said that you were Gevin. So I see well,
- 13:56investigator, I thought too, and I didn't like what I saw. Orio
- 14:03was dressed in kaki shirt, riches and honeymoon and heying the crook of her
- 14:07arm was a high powered hunting rifle. Act three of yours, truly,
- 14:22Johnny Dollar. In a moment, Act three of yours, truly Johnny Dollar
- 14:26and the three sisters matters. How about Amy and that rifle the other way,
- 14:41Marie, I'll set it down the corner. Better, let me see
- 14:46it. Huh? Are you a hundred Johnny as if you were? Dear
- 14:52I am Maria. You do a lot of shitting, shooting, yes,
- 14:56killing, dancing around these mountains, blazing way at anything that moves. That's
- 15:01for the sake of How about that, Maria, give me something to do,
- 15:05kind of a relief. What else is there to do? And is
- 15:09God's the saken plate? Have you any other guns that I use for plinking?
- 15:15We all use it? Why I want to see that one you put
- 15:18in a corner, and please don't start waving it around the way you did.
- 15:24Yeah. Yeah, Why are you so interested in? Why? Pretty
- 15:31optick? Right, Johnny? And your only other one is a twenty two?
- 15:37That's right? Why that's about twenty two up there? Or emento?
- 15:45That's that fat thinking? Oh, get it down for you, Aria.
- 15:52Why why all these questions? Johnny? Better tell them, Johnny, Yeah,
- 16:00tell us what we found. Your father's right body. Yeah, Johnny,
- 16:11you can't be sorry. He was shot by a high powered rife.
- 16:23It's a terrible Johnny. Tell me are you crying for Alga? I suppose
- 16:29you're glad because now you can do what you see. No more of those
- 16:33boring context tips all over the world, no more of this God's taking place,
- 16:37as you call it. And I suppose you're glad because now you'll have
- 16:40money, fancy clothes, Europe, Riviera, South America. Men. Men,
- 16:45Yes, talking cry because it's because he doesn't sake stop saying that thing
- 16:52over and over and over. What are you trying to do? Drivels out
- 16:55of my mind. No, I'm trying to find out why dad he wrote
- 17:00it? What compuls in maiden Deely had you right? It before he left
- 17:03that morning. Hey, wait a minute, wait, I said, what
- 17:06is he to get back to that piano? Sit down? Play that thing
- 17:10again. I'll play it slowly. Stop, Johnny, what the son are
- 17:18you doing? Listener notes on a piano run from A to G like this.
- 17:22Let's just see the first three notes of that thing. She's been playing
- 17:26A D A listen A D A. Hey yeah, oh now, wait
- 17:36a minute, the rest of them? Ill quick your face edge c A
- 17:51G E cage c e bed ada face cage bed the connariciate right, And
- 18:03that's exactly what I'm going to do. Tear out the base of the tape.
- 18:07Well, somebody please tell me what this is all about. Look here,
- 18:11Look it has a false bottom. Yes, look what tennant is hidden
- 18:15there? Last will and testament of Misha Romanov? What use to say,
- 18:25Johnny? That note with it? What it looks like rolinof puts the finger
- 18:32on it, killing Johnny? What does it say? And my reason for
- 18:37deliberately omitting her from my will, omitting home from the glob are you talking
- 18:44about? It? Is not only because of the self centered life she's always
- 18:52not only because of her constance completely selfish extravagant, apply to all of it,
- 18:56an extravagance which finally led her to forging my name on check Oh Johnny.
- 19:03Then when I discovered that she was sneaking out and practicing with the old
- 19:07rifle, it's kept over the map, the two fifty. It was kept
- 19:10over the man who don't move. God, so he cut me out of
- 19:14his will. If I can't have what I wanted, you won't have it.
- 19:17Now call this gun. Who's five shops? I know because I reloaded
- 19:22after I killed him. Oh God, And now you all know that I
- 19:26killed him all right? One side for you, Maria, one for Ada,
- 19:33one for you, earl, and one for Johnny. That means one
- 19:37for me. When I've sin, no one will ever know. I'll have
- 19:41your mind. What difference does that make? No, that's now there's no
- 19:47other way out for him. There's nothing else. I can't stand killed fall
- 19:53us. It doesn't not for you all, Thank God. Somebody empty the
- 20:14bullets out of that gun. Yeah, really, Aiden, I we didn't
- 20:22want to believe it. We tried not to, but I guess we knew
- 20:26that when Daddy disappeared, she must have somehow, somehow, there's something like
- 20:33this might happen, and she did tell him. Oh why why cut of
- 20:56a wine be so twisted? Expensive counts total including fairback to heartspid three fifty
- 21:03one twenty remarks none yours to leave Johnny though, or sorry will return in
- 21:23just a moment to tell you about next week's story. Sorry to tell you
- 21:26about next week's story next week. A beautiful girl, a model in a
- 21:30fact and unfortunately a model of crime to go with her, Join us,
- 21:36won't you? And welcome back. This is an episode that really did suffer
- 22:06from length restrictions. I think you had the makings of a good dramatic tint
- 22:14comparison between these three characters, and you didn't have time to do it right.
- 22:22I don't think, particularly with Johnny coming in. The final clue was
- 22:26certainly clever, and my hat's off to the writers. It's tough, I
- 22:33think, to come up with a really good, convincing message if you can
- 22:37only use the letters A through G, though I guess that combination does have
- 22:45the benefit of having two vowels thrown in. And the one thing always about
- 22:48a story like this that always makes me wonder is this guy was clever enough
- 22:55to find an extremely ingenious way to hide his will, and then an extremely
- 23:02ingenious and intricate way to reveal where that was hidden, yet unable to avoid
- 23:08being killed even though he knew who was going to do it, and even
- 23:14the weapon that they were going to use. I don't know. If I
- 23:17was that clever, I would probably apply my cleverness in that direction. But
- 23:22I'm not a musical genius. So all right, Well, on to some
- 23:25listener comments and feedback. Bobby Lee writes in Hey, Adam, I've noticed
- 23:32that music at the end of the episode is longer sometimes than others. Were
- 23:36they trying to fill time and answer to question yes, sometimes this would be
- 23:42used longer. Music would be used so that they could fill in public service
- 23:52announcements later. But also they did need to get to over the Armed Forces
- 24:00radio and television service. They did need to have the shows be a certain
- 24:03length so that they would fit very neatly into the schedule. So often music
- 24:08would be used to pad it out, and we can hear that with multiple
- 24:12shows. And indeed that's where the theme music came from, was some Armed
- 24:18Forces radio service music at the end of Pat Novak for Hire. So it's
- 24:23all about making that fit and then just some general praise for Johnny Dollar.
- 24:30Diane I says Johnny Dollar is my favorite, and Kathy concurs and says,
- 24:36especially with Bob Bailey. Well, thank you so much for your comments and
