- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back.
- 0:14Speaker 2: What's going on everybody?
- 0:15Speaker 1: It's Jeff Moser, Adam Kaplan and Inside the Birds. All
- 0:19Speaker 1: season begins now, and we've got a lot of topics
- 0:22Speaker 1: that we'll be covering in this podcast this week throughout
- 0:25Speaker 1: the off season. Adam as the Eagles, it's got to
- 0:28Speaker 1: crush them. It's got to crush some people in the
- 0:29Speaker 1: Eagles organization on the team to watch the playoffs and think, man,
- 0:34Speaker 1: if we weren't just twenty five percent better at this
- 0:37Speaker 1: or that, maybe that could have been us, you know,
- 0:39Speaker 1: especially watching the forty nine ers get their asses handed
- 0:42Speaker 1: to them by the Seahawks, which.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I was expecting. I rarely predict blowouts. I'm like, this
- 0:47Speaker 3: has got to be a blowout. I don't see how
- 0:49Speaker 3: the hell the team that couldn't score at home against
- 0:53Speaker 3: the Seahawks is somehow on the road now minus George Kittle,
- 0:57Speaker 3: how they're going to score? And they didn't. They got destroyed.
- 1:00Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:01Speaker 3: The tone was Rashid Shaheed's a kickoff re turn for
- 1:05Speaker 3: ninety five yards first play the game and Seattle never
- 1:08Speaker 3: look back. It was just it was kind of like,
- 1:10Speaker 3: there's no mercy role in the NFL. But I just
- 1:13Speaker 3: felt so bad, like they were so inapt yep, and look,
- 1:17Speaker 3: this is what happens when you were without your best plasure.
- 1:19Speaker 3: At some point you're gonna have to pay the piper
- 1:21Speaker 3: and the shorts hell did.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I always feel like when a game starts off or
- 1:25Speaker 1: has a huge special teams like a return touchdown, a
- 1:28Speaker 1: punt or a kick return touchdown, that's just such a
- 1:31Speaker 1: favor already a bonus for the team that's able to score.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I mean, you know, every possession matters so much in
- 1:37Speaker 1: the playoffs, and when you get one of those, it's
- 1:38Speaker 1: like it's like house money almost. I remember the old
- 1:42Speaker 1: remember the Giants and Ravens played each other, and the
- 1:43Speaker 1: Super Bowl was a too die I forget nineties whatever,
- 1:46Speaker 1: where the Ravens were kicking the crap out of the Giants,
- 1:48Speaker 1: and then the Giants open up the second half with
- 1:50Speaker 1: a kick return touchdown and then Baltimore responds. I think
- 1:53Speaker 1: Jermaine Lewis he returns the next kick when kickoff return
- 1:58Speaker 1: touchdowns to kick off or you just know it's not
- 2:01Speaker 1: your day when the other team can do that. So, yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 1: we got a lot to talk about with the Eagles
- 2:05Speaker 1: here and Obviously we'll start off with transactions. They're gonna
- 2:09Speaker 1: make a ton of transactions throughout the off season. It
- 2:11Speaker 1: always begins with the futures guys right after sometimes a
- 2:16Speaker 1: day or not even a day after the end of
- 2:18Speaker 1: the season.
- 2:18Speaker 2: And that was the case here.
- 2:20Speaker 3: You don't have a limited time to resign them where
- 2:23Speaker 3: they're free to sign elsewhere.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:25Speaker 3: So, yeah, there were a couple interesting names. So here
- 2:28Speaker 3: are the players that they signed. I think they signed
- 2:31Speaker 3: twelve Carson Steele. If you really follow the NFL, he
- 2:35Speaker 3: made the Chiefs roster. I believe he's an undrafted free
- 2:37Speaker 3: agent his rookie season, and he went up starting a
- 2:41Speaker 3: bunch of games last year in twenty four because that's
- 2:45Speaker 3: when it's probably when Pacheco got hurt. Anyway, he wound
- 2:48Speaker 3: up starting a little bit and he was like a
- 2:50Speaker 3: darling for fantasy for like two weeks that he just fizzled. Yeah,
- 2:53Speaker 3: he's he could play fullback, which he did, and could
- 2:56Speaker 3: play running back. So got to watch in their off
- 2:58Speaker 3: season program. Danny Gray is back one more time. I
- 3:02Speaker 3: give Eagles credit for not walking away from with that speed.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Quas Watkins. I mean, it's remarkable. Former six round pick
- 3:10Speaker 3: We know he can run.
- 3:11Speaker 2: We know that is edit right, you just said it.
- 3:13Speaker 2: You don't you don't walk away when you got speed?
- 3:16Speaker 3: Yeah, bite the hands right spite the problems with the
- 3:18Speaker 3: hands of track in the football.
- 3:20Speaker 2: E J.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Jenkins is back. Who I know are Andrew to Checko's
- 3:23Speaker 3: talk has gotten No, uh, they're not giving up on him.
- 3:27Speaker 3: A former college receiver. They did resign Holland Pierce. Jake
- 3:31Speaker 3: Majors is back. There's an undirected free agent from a
- 3:35Speaker 3: couple of years ago who was with the Titans, John Ojoku.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I think is how you pronounce it. He's there. He's
- 3:42Speaker 3: got good length defensively. A couple of interesting names here,
- 3:45Speaker 3: guys who had not been with the Eagles before. One
- 3:46Speaker 3: in particular, gave Halls back. That's a good thing. They're
- 3:49Speaker 3: seeing this through with him after that really good offseason.
- 3:52Speaker 3: The guy we're going to talk about it Soose Ramirez,
- 3:54Speaker 3: who was the MAC Player of the Year Defensive Player
- 3:57Speaker 3: of the Year in twenty twenty two. He was not
- 4:00Speaker 3: gonna get drafted, I can tell you from talking to
- 4:02Speaker 3: some Scotland people. But he went off. He had double
- 4:06Speaker 3: jigit sacks and had a great senior season. In Eastern
- 4:08Speaker 3: Michigan and got drafted six round by the Bucks in
- 4:11Speaker 3: twenty three. So he's back now.
- 4:15Speaker 1: He didn't make Did he not make the Bucks out
- 4:17Speaker 1: of training camp or did he?
- 4:19Speaker 3: He was there briefly and then he spent the last
- 4:22Speaker 3: season in the CFL. Oh okay, that's right, yeah, yeah,
- 4:25Speaker 3: So this is Look, it's it's an all season project.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Sure you see what he can do. Chance Campbell, who
- 4:31Speaker 3: was with Bobby King, their linepacker's coach with the Titans,
- 4:34Speaker 3: so he was with them last year. Taric Castro Fields
- 4:37Speaker 3: Andrew said he talked to Brandon Johnson. He should be
- 4:39Speaker 3: good for the off season program after that ankle injury.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Andre sam is back. And understand something we've talked about
- 4:46Speaker 3: this before in the years past. Just because a guy
- 4:49Speaker 3: doesn't resign now, it doesn't mean he won't be back
- 4:51Speaker 3: later than the odds are against it. So here are
- 4:53Speaker 3: the four guys who have not been resigned. Kyle McCord
- 4:57Speaker 3: hasn't resigned. Not a good sign, doesn't It's not great,
- 5:00Speaker 3: but you never know. Terres Marshall, Taekwon Graham who up boy,
- 5:04Speaker 3: he was a player for the Falcons. All sorts of
- 5:06Speaker 3: injuries for them, but he just brought him into the
- 5:08Speaker 3: practice squab to haven't resigned him. And Patrick Johnson's a guy. Look,
- 5:11Speaker 3: he could sign right for a training camp.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Who knows.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you wonder how much of them A court thing
- 5:16Speaker 1: is that the Eagles quarterback room is.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Going to look a lot different.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I mean, obviously Sam Howell has an expiring contract and
- 5:23Speaker 1: then there's going to be trade rumor speculation potential around
- 5:28Speaker 1: Tanner McKee. So the Eagles may want they may have
- 5:32Speaker 1: some kind of other idea for those two spots.
- 5:34Speaker 4: It wasn't it this time when did they bring in?
- 5:37Speaker 1: No, they traded because they had Dorian Thompson Robinson last
- 5:40Speaker 1: year that he came over in what the picket trade
- 5:43Speaker 1: was it?
- 5:43Speaker 3: Yes, off season and he was caught. He is not
- 5:46Speaker 3: to my knowledge after he has caught him. I do
- 5:50Speaker 3: not believe he signed with the practice squad. I could
- 5:51Speaker 3: be wrong, but I don't remember seeing it right.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Okay, But to your point, like you know, there's gonna
- 5:57Speaker 1: be movement there in the quarterback room, so they may
- 5:59Speaker 1: not be just worrying.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Right now to get McCord.
- 6:03Speaker 4: I want to go back to Carson Steele.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I'm really interested in this because When the Eagles announced
- 6:08Speaker 1: his signing, they announced it as a full back. He
- 6:10Speaker 1: played both full back and running back for the Chiefs.
- 6:12Speaker 1: But this is a guy who had almost six hundred
- 6:15Speaker 1: and fifty carries in his college career at two years
- 6:18Speaker 1: at ball State and then I think Ucla was the
- 6:21Speaker 1: last year. I don't believe he was used very often,
- 6:23Speaker 1: if at all, as a full back in college, he
- 6:26Speaker 1: carried the ball quite a bit. So I'm curious where
- 6:30Speaker 1: the Eagles are going with this. We know Ben Van
- 6:32Speaker 1: Sumerin had the injury. We know that, you know, it's
- 6:34Speaker 1: possible as we get into the OC candidates that a
- 6:36Speaker 1: fullback might become a bigger part of their offense, depending
- 6:40Speaker 1: on who is the OC and all. We know that
- 6:43Speaker 1: they've tried to incorporate the fullback in their offense since
- 6:46Speaker 1: was it the twenty twenty four season they had carry
- 6:49Speaker 1: blasting game.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Right black for Dark Henry Yeah.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Yeah, So I'm just interested in their concept of the
- 6:57Speaker 1: fullback and what they're looking for.
- 7:00Speaker 3: This guy, Carson Steele holy smokes twenty twenty two for
- 7:07Speaker 3: ball State before he transferred to UCLA one of over
- 7:11Speaker 3: fifteen hundred yards.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Yeah, by the way, he caught the ball a lot too.
- 7:16Speaker 4: In college.
- 7:17Speaker 3: His high was twenty nine that year at ball State.
- 7:20Speaker 3: So you're talking about a guy at over three hundred
- 7:22Speaker 3: touches in one season for ball State in twenty twenty two. Yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 3: something there. Yeah, he was a phenomenon for the Chiefs.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Like fans, you know, they sometimes they attach onto an
- 7:32Speaker 3: undirected free agent. Yeah, he was that guy, no question.
- 7:35Speaker 3: And it's funny his UH is on his IG ready
- 7:38Speaker 3: put him. I guess he's gonna be number forty two
- 7:40Speaker 3: because if you check his IG because he's got long
- 7:43Speaker 3: he is just like you know, he has a certain
- 7:45Speaker 3: work for people like Yeah, yeah, interesting signing.
- 7:48Speaker 4: I hope Van Sumer comes back really healthy.
- 7:50Speaker 1: And it was really kind of cool fullback battle between
- 7:54Speaker 1: two guys.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I mean, Van Sumer is probably the better athlete.
- 7:57Speaker 3: He had great hands, Yeah.
- 7:58Speaker 4: Carson Steel, right, he just passes and.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Had great hands. Remember Greg said he had heard col City.
- 8:04Speaker 3: I don't know how the hell he found that one out.
- 8:08Speaker 3: BET's hands on the team'll get out of here, really okay,
- 8:11Speaker 3: maybe even if.
- 8:12Speaker 1: It's just running back room, it's it's really not that
- 8:14Speaker 1: surprising because Barkley's hands are okay, they're not they're not.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Going great.
- 8:18Speaker 4: At all, and then who is their backup this year?
- 8:21Speaker 1: I can't even think at the moment, Oh Simpley's hands
- 8:23Speaker 1: are good, he can catch, but I don't even think
- 8:26Speaker 1: Chipley has that sort of explosion that Van Sumeren had
- 8:29Speaker 1: prior to the injury.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Van Sumer is a hell of an athlete. I mean
- 8:32Speaker 2: he is.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Remember he's a former running back, running back and then
- 8:38Speaker 3: the linebacker. But with Ben, he's had two major knee
- 8:41Speaker 3: injuries and you don't know where where he's at physically.
- 8:45Speaker 3: I think this one was what I torn for Teller Tenant.
- 8:47Speaker 3: See I can't even remember in a c L that, Yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 3: he's had two bad injuries. So anyway we wish, let's
- 8:56Speaker 3: we'll see what he looks like. You just don't know
- 8:58Speaker 3: what he can do anymore. And here's the thing about
- 9:02Speaker 3: will Shipley. He is explosive with the balton his hands,
- 9:04Speaker 3: but he's not strong up lower bodies just not strong.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Right, that's not going to point. I agree.
- 9:11Speaker 1: I agree, and he got a little bit bigger from
- 9:13Speaker 1: rookie to sofas the second year, but he does have
- 9:15Speaker 1: to continue to add strength, muscle, learn how to playoff contact.
- 9:20Speaker 1: That's something Barkley obviously does amazingly, but yeah, that would
- 9:23Speaker 1: benefit him more.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Uh.
- 9:25Speaker 1: And of course Tank Bigsby is is because of Tank
- 9:28Speaker 1: Bigsby is great at playing off contact and that's why
- 9:31Speaker 1: he was you know, traded for and then started to
- 9:33Speaker 1: see all that a little bit.
- 9:34Speaker 2: More time uh down down the stretch. So that's a
- 9:37Speaker 2: good running back room the egos got, Yeah for sure.
- 9:39Speaker 3: I mean, brings more competition to training company, all season program, yeah,
- 9:43Speaker 3: no doubt.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Yeah. Uh.
- 9:44Speaker 1: The Patrick Johnson, of course not surprising. I am interested
- 9:47Speaker 1: because of what you said though in Ramirez, just because
- 9:50Speaker 1: I don't know, you hear these small school guys who
- 9:53Speaker 1: really explode, right, and he was the MAC defensive player
- 9:55Speaker 1: of the Year. And you know, certainly the coaching staff
- 9:58Speaker 1: has done an amazing job with a guy like Jelex Hunt.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I'm not even trying to compare them athletically, but Jelex
- 10:04Speaker 1: Hunt went to a small school and has been a
- 10:06Speaker 1: year ahead of schedule ever since he got on the
- 10:08Speaker 1: field for the Eagles. So the Ramirez guy sort of
- 10:11Speaker 1: tantalizes me because he was he stood out at a
- 10:14Speaker 1: small school.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Yeah, just to give you an idea of how good
- 10:17Speaker 3: he was, he had twelve sacks at nineteen and a
- 10:19Speaker 3: half tackles for a loss, and that got him drafted.
- 10:22Speaker 3: The one year got him drafted. I talked to someone
- 10:24Speaker 3: in scouting when another team who said, oh yeah, he
- 10:27Speaker 3: just blew it up. He kind of. I guess if
- 10:30Speaker 3: you had his area, he knew who he was because
- 10:32Speaker 3: this junior was decent, but that would not have got
- 10:34Speaker 3: him drafted. So yeah, he got him in your off
- 10:36Speaker 3: season program. Never know because all you know out of nowhere,
- 10:42Speaker 3: you know, the Eagles made the well we knew that
- 10:44Speaker 3: they were working on it, but they got but to
- 10:46Speaker 3: start last season, it's not like Jalen Phillips was on
- 10:48Speaker 3: the roster or on the radar. They added BG, came
- 10:52Speaker 3: out of retirement, added Jalen Phillips. BG again is not signed.
- 10:55Speaker 3: See if he wants to play again. Never to say never,
- 10:58Speaker 3: Ye Phillips is his contracts up. It was the social
- 11:01Speaker 3: laard got hurt. So yeah, I mean they do have
- 11:04Speaker 3: a need for depth.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Sure, And that's a great point. That great great segue.
- 11:09Speaker 1: We'll we will start to get into our roster review
- 11:13Speaker 1: that we do every year around this time. Pretty soon
- 11:15Speaker 1: we're gonna go through the offense seat tell everybody what
- 11:17Speaker 1: they need to know about the direction the team's going
- 11:19Speaker 1: in there defense. The next part too, we'll have that
- 11:23Speaker 1: out pretty soon, but obviously we've got to get some
- 11:25Speaker 1: offensive coordinator stuff going first. And then also Adam, on Tuesday,
- 11:30Speaker 1: we'll drop part one of a fantastic two part to
- 11:34Speaker 1: Checko Daily special And let me just tell you, guys,
- 11:37Speaker 1: you're all in for a treat. The Checko did a
- 11:39Speaker 1: great sit down well at zoom chat if you will,
- 11:43Speaker 1: with Marty morning Leg to talk about Hurts and also
- 11:47Speaker 1: about offensive play calling, which.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Are all, you know, really pertinent topics.
- 11:50Speaker 1: And first of all, with the Hurts thing, because if
- 11:52Speaker 1: you remember, Marty was on the staff for Hurts' first year,
- 11:56Speaker 1: some amazing stories some probably never been told before, wor
- 12:00Speaker 1: stories about Marty's involvement in both not only just developing
- 12:04Speaker 1: him but even scouting him prior to him being drafted,
- 12:08Speaker 1: and his in his say in the process. There really
- 12:12Speaker 1: good stuff. And then yeah, really good, really good stuff.
- 12:15Speaker 1: And then part two will be about how Marty sees,
- 12:18Speaker 1: you know, play calling, what he thinks is important that
- 12:20Speaker 1: the Eagles decide about what they want to do, what
- 12:23Speaker 1: they want to be as they get this play caller,
- 12:26Speaker 1: and then how difficult or how environmentally important being a
- 12:31Speaker 1: play caller is like having somebody you can nurture. He
- 12:34Speaker 1: talked about his relationship with Andy Reid and vice versa.
- 12:37Speaker 1: And he also talked about when he worked for defensive
- 12:39Speaker 1: head coaches the difference between that and offensive head coaches.
- 12:42Speaker 1: So Andrew asked great questions. Marty was fired up as
- 12:45Speaker 1: Marty he was out in Montana. You know, he went
- 12:48Speaker 1: to the University of Montana. He does like play by
- 12:50Speaker 1: play for the school, So he was out there. Yeah,
- 12:52Speaker 1: he was out there in Montana and you can see
- 12:55Speaker 1: him with the fireplace on in the back.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 3: So what happened is Andrew and I were doing the
- 13:00Speaker 3: DCB show last week. He said, I think he said,
- 13:02Speaker 3: I'm thinking to call him Marty morning. Way do a
- 13:04Speaker 3: show with him, to do an interview?
- 13:06Speaker 2: Oh? Please do.
- 13:06Speaker 3: I was like, he's phenomenal. You never know what he's
- 13:08Speaker 3: going to say, which is the beauty of it? And
- 13:11Speaker 3: next thing I know, I guess Friday he texted us.
- 13:14Speaker 3: He goes, I'm Marty and I are talking Tom. I'm oh,
- 13:16Speaker 3: I cannot wait for this. I haven't heard of you.
- 13:17Speaker 3: I don't this is my first I've heard of it
- 13:19Speaker 3: about what they were talking about. So, so it's a
- 13:22Speaker 3: two part A. Wow, it's that long.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Holy So yeah, forty minutes. Yeah, it was good.
- 13:27Speaker 3: And Andrew had Brad Chilter song before he had him
- 13:29Speaker 3: on last year.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't wait.
- 13:30Speaker 3: I cannot wait to hear this. I used toill love
- 13:33Speaker 3: talking to Marty. He's great. I felt he dumbed it
- 13:37Speaker 3: down for me early in my career because it was
- 13:39Speaker 3: he didn't put it over like some coaches you talk to,
- 13:41Speaker 3: they don't even care if you what your background is.
- 13:44Speaker 3: They want to talk high level football. I'm like, okay,
- 13:47Speaker 3: I feel embarrassed to ask him what he meant by
- 13:48Speaker 3: you know what a coach meant by that.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Yep, you know.
- 13:51Speaker 3: But with him, oh, he was, in fact you were
- 13:53Speaker 3: covering the team. And then I'm pretty sure I actually
- 13:56Speaker 3: still have my email notes. This is how on AOL,
- 13:58Speaker 3: this is how long ago it was. So it was
- 14:00Speaker 3: a chop talk Marty had with us probably like seven
- 14:06Speaker 3: eight era area, and he was going over does specific
- 14:14Speaker 3: play calls what they meant, and he just he just
- 14:17Speaker 3: did such a great job. I'm pretty certain I have it.
- 14:19Speaker 3: If I'm going to Now that you've brought this up,
- 14:21Speaker 3: I gotta find it anyway.
- 14:23Speaker 2: All right.
- 14:23Speaker 1: By the way, see, Brad Childress is very insightful and
- 14:28Speaker 1: he has really good that's the word I'm looking for,
- 14:32Speaker 1: just really good way of explaining things. Marty is that,
- 14:36Speaker 1: but with the additional like at some point it felt
- 14:41Speaker 1: like Mark, it felt like Marty was interviewing Andrew so
- 14:45Speaker 1: much energy.
- 14:46Speaker 2: No, he didn't drop a sick click in this one.
- 14:48Speaker 3: That one, to me should have been a meme before
- 14:53Speaker 3: memes were out, because I just that was his pet
- 14:57Speaker 3: phrase and we all made fun of him, like jokingly,
- 15:00Speaker 3: like oh my god. And the great thing is we
- 15:03Speaker 3: would set them up in a press and never cared
- 15:05Speaker 3: for during press converce because they oc has had to
- 15:07Speaker 3: speak once a week and we make sure we'd we
- 15:11Speaker 3: would go like is it does it happen frequently? And
- 15:16Speaker 3: we we'd urge him to stay sick.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Anyway anyway.
- 15:21Speaker 1: So yeah, make sure everybody checks that out and it'll
- 15:23Speaker 1: be up to probably Tuesday and Wednesday, part one and
- 15:25Speaker 1: part two on our inside the Birds platform.
- 15:28Speaker 2: And there's a video component.
- 15:29Speaker 1: We usually did check o daily as an audio podcast,
- 15:31Speaker 1: but we have the video component if you want to
- 15:33Speaker 1: watch it, you can't wait. All right, offensive coordinators, let's
- 15:36Speaker 1: get into the names, like well, cover the names of
- 15:38Speaker 1: people who've interviewed or or requested to be interviewed so far,
- 15:42Speaker 1: and then as as.
- 15:43Speaker 2: The week goes on, we'll get into him more.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Zach Robinson's an interesting one, Adam, because this is a
- 15:49Speaker 1: guy and we're gonna probably have this conversation about other
- 15:52Speaker 1: guys that Eagles talk to or might be interested in.
- 15:55Speaker 1: But obviously he's someone who comes from Atlanta last year
- 15:58Speaker 1: under Raheem Morris. But he really is a branch from
- 16:01Speaker 1: the McVeigh tree, right from his He's spent several years
- 16:05Speaker 1: under McVeigh.
- 16:06Speaker 2: With the Rams.
- 16:06Speaker 1: So when you talk to a guy like this, right,
- 16:10Speaker 1: whether you're Howie, whether you're Nick, all the people involved,
- 16:13Speaker 1: this is who he is. And then you have to
- 16:15Speaker 1: and this is something already talked about, you have to
- 16:17Speaker 1: decide if that's how you want to be as an offense.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Those kind of concepts which we talk about all the time,
- 16:24Speaker 1: which is a lot of under center, a lot of
- 16:26Speaker 1: pre stat motion, a lot of misdirection. We have this
- 16:28Speaker 1: conversation a lot.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Yeah, So we talked about him on our Thursday show.
- 16:33Speaker 3: It's the first. I think it was the first name
- 16:35Speaker 3: we talked about, just because I knew he was available.
- 16:37Speaker 3: From just talk to some coaches around the league, it
- 16:40Speaker 3: sounds like he wasn't gonna come back to Atlanta just
- 16:42Speaker 3: because they're gonna have a new head coach. Yep, Kevin
- 16:44Speaker 3: Stefanski is their head coach. Kevin does run a West
- 16:47Speaker 3: Coast offense, but they don't have a relationship. So the
- 16:51Speaker 3: thought and the belief is and that's why Robinson's interviewing
- 16:53Speaker 3: from it's not just with Eagle to a interview with
- 16:55Speaker 3: He interviewed with other teams. But yeah, he was with
- 16:58Speaker 3: McVeigh for five seasons, was the OC for the Falcons
- 17:02Speaker 3: for just two, So he's only called plays for two years, right,
- 17:06Speaker 3: But he was drafted into the league. Really smart guy.
- 17:09Speaker 3: I love that he's got the McVeigh concepts. He was
- 17:13Speaker 3: a seventh round pick. I do remember that.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Oklahoma State he was a QB right, yeah.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Oh yeah. In fact, I remember Paul Gunther told me.
- 17:22Speaker 3: I remember Paul Gunthrough the former Bengals decordinator Raiders decordinators
- 17:26Speaker 3: now at dwant LV is their coordinator defensive coordinator. He
- 17:30Speaker 3: spoke very high level him. He this was just I
- 17:33Speaker 3: remember his name came up a couple of years ago.
- 17:35Speaker 3: He goes, oh, yeah, I could tell this kid was
- 17:36Speaker 3: pretty smart. Yeah, where that goes?
- 17:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I wonder where he got connected with McVeigh along
- 17:43Speaker 1: the way, because I don't think he played He never
- 17:46Speaker 1: played in Washington when he was a quarterback.
- 17:49Speaker 3: No. No, As a matter of fact, he was with PFF.
- 17:53Speaker 3: I believe for a brief time.
- 17:54Speaker 2: That's right, I think correct.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, he's honestly, there was.
- 18:00Speaker 1: He was.
- 18:01Speaker 3: His first coaching job was in twenty nineteen with the
- 18:03Speaker 3: Rams assistant quarterbacks coach m h. Yeah, there was. From
- 18:07Speaker 3: fourteenth or eighteen, he was out of the league. I
- 18:10Speaker 3: don't know what he was doing. But the bottom line
- 18:15Speaker 3: is it's that McVeigh. I like that he sort of
- 18:19Speaker 3: had apprenticeship in the in the McVeigh system. And you
- 18:22Speaker 3: know McVeigh and Shanahan, Yes they are calling the same language,
- 18:27Speaker 3: but they don't see it exactly the same way.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Yes, they're a big both big emotion and deception all that,
- 18:32Speaker 3: but they it's like from the and Andy took the
- 18:35Speaker 3: West Coast offense, he bastardied is like he he took
- 18:38Speaker 3: it a completely different way. It's funny how they all
- 18:41Speaker 3: see it differently.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I think what's impressive about him is how quickly he
- 18:45Speaker 1: rose up. It's not like he was a quality control
- 18:47Speaker 1: guy in the NFL for a few years. His first
- 18:49Speaker 1: job with McVeigh was assistant quarterbacks, then next year was
- 18:52Speaker 1: assistant wide receivers. In the year after that, he's I
- 18:54Speaker 1: think us QB's coach, so that that was, or pass
- 18:58Speaker 1: game coordinator something like that.
- 18:59Speaker 2: By so.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Yeah, So he's bright, so and he would bring a
- 19:03Speaker 1: lot of different concepts to the Eagles offense that they
- 19:07Speaker 1: I'm sorry, he would presumably do these things that they
- 19:09Speaker 1: don't do.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, I mean, and that'll be I get on
- 19:16Speaker 3: football at four. I talked about that exactly what you
- 19:18Speaker 3: just mentioned, just some of the things that are so
- 19:20Speaker 3: obvious that have to be done these coaches. And we'll
- 19:24Speaker 3: talk about Brian Dable and a couple others we talked about.
- 19:27Speaker 3: We talked about table last week. But I just can't
- 19:29Speaker 3: imagine when they watched this tabe did they go, wait
- 19:32Speaker 3: a minute, you guys who were thirty second in screens?
- 19:35Speaker 3: Why screens called? Why? What's your answer for this right,
- 19:40Speaker 3: the hell is that acceptable to me? Is it's unfathomable
- 19:43Speaker 3: that that could happen.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Yeah, you almost think you would benefit a coordinator. Candidates
- 19:47Speaker 1: are just sit in a chair and the first thing
- 19:49Speaker 1: to say is, I'm gonna bring you guys.
- 19:50Speaker 2: A screen game again. Okay, anything, anything?
- 19:53Speaker 1: Yeah, something innovative, like you did talk about Brian Dable
- 19:59Speaker 1: last pod. I think his offense really would fit the
- 20:02Speaker 1: Eagles well. I mean he has worked with a lot
- 20:05Speaker 1: of different athletic quarterbacks.
- 20:07Speaker 2: That helps.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I don't think the run game, it would be as
- 20:11Speaker 1: much as him spicing up the pass game, which is
- 20:14Speaker 1: which might be fine with Jeff Delllin being the run
- 20:16Speaker 1: game designer.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Yeah, he had. The thing that I like is, yes,
- 20:23Speaker 3: he's called plays for so many different teams. He's coach quarterbacks,
- 20:25Speaker 3: he's coach wide receivers, tight ends, which you love that
- 20:29Speaker 3: he's coached all sorts of positions. The coaches that work
- 20:33Speaker 3: with them for the four seasons he was with the
- 20:35Speaker 3: Bills felt that it was one of the best coaching.
- 20:39Speaker 3: One coach I talked to work with and says, and
- 20:41Speaker 3: I don't think this guy's like Beeble's best friend. I'll
- 20:44Speaker 3: put it that way. He said, it's one of the
- 20:46Speaker 3: best coaching jobs he's ever seen, the way that he
- 20:49Speaker 3: coached Josh Allen super hard. Josh Allen, you have to remember,
- 20:52Speaker 3: one of the most inaccurate quarterbacks in Division on history
- 20:54Speaker 3: in terms of being a first round pick. Yeah, guys
- 20:57Speaker 3: like by Josh Allen don't make it. If you're under
- 21:00Speaker 3: sixty percent in college. It's really hard to improve accuracy.
- 21:06Speaker 3: You talk to any quarterbacks coch she'll tell you it's
- 21:09Speaker 3: really difficult. And dab all just did it a great job.
- 21:13Speaker 3: So overall, that would be a helm run higher. But
- 21:17Speaker 3: I've been told by two people that there are multiple
- 21:22Speaker 3: head coaches and candidates that have day ball, very interested
- 21:26Speaker 3: in dayball. He's highly in demand as a coordinator, not
- 21:31Speaker 3: just the Eagles, other teams. It'll be hard to get him.
- 21:34Speaker 3: It would be an absolute home run higher, no question
- 21:37Speaker 3: about it.
- 21:37Speaker 2: If they can again, I.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Agree, it would be a home run higher for the offense.
- 21:40Speaker 1: I do wonder how certain dynamics would work out. You know,
- 21:43Speaker 1: he is at a different stage of his career as
- 21:46Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts is when they were together at Alabama. That
- 21:48Speaker 1: is the year that Jalen Hurts got yanked in the
- 21:51Speaker 1: National Championship Game. And I know Nick Sirianni has talked
- 21:55Speaker 1: about because they were together on the Kansas City staff.
- 21:57Speaker 2: But that was quite a while ago, and I don't
- 22:01Speaker 2: know what.
- 22:01Speaker 1: We'd have to see because both of those guys are
- 22:03Speaker 1: kind of like Alpha's right. They get very fiery Sirianni
- 22:07Speaker 1: and Dabele, which can be great or it could be
- 22:10Speaker 1: kind of like a salt and pepper type of thing
- 22:12Speaker 1: or oil.
- 22:12Speaker 2: I don't know. Yeah, I hear you.
- 22:16Speaker 3: But Dable is an even stronger personality. He's exactly this
- 22:20Speaker 3: is the guy who's just not a head coach, but
- 22:22Speaker 3: he's a phenomenal schemer and designer. And the good thing
- 22:26Speaker 3: is it's kind of like it's kind of like Todd Monkin.
- 22:31Speaker 3: You can't really pin him down on any particular thing.
- 22:35Speaker 3: He he he's malleable, like you could. He could form
- 22:39Speaker 3: whatever he thinks his needed. He could do that that season, right,
- 22:43Speaker 3: and he coaches hard, which is what hurts once. But obviously, yes,
- 22:47Speaker 3: as he said, they coached together, but they could really,
- 22:49Speaker 3: I mean, that was so long ago. Everybody changes and
- 22:51Speaker 3: it's different as they get older. So we'll see what
- 22:55Speaker 3: happens here. But that I just I like that just
- 22:58Speaker 3: on the surface. That's it's good to see the direction
- 23:02Speaker 3: that they're trying to get here.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it's certainly a wide net because you would not
- 23:05Speaker 1: put Robinson's offense and dables offense in the same category.
- 23:08Speaker 1: They're completely different. And then of course the next guy,
- 23:11Speaker 1: you know, Mike Kafka.
- 23:12Speaker 5: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying
- 23:15Speaker 5: to clean up their habits and that includes me. Honestly,

- 26:32Speaker 1: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 26:36Speaker 1: one and up, who obviously the Eagles have familiar with.
- 26:39Speaker 1: He was a twenty ten to fourth round pick of
- 26:40Speaker 1: the Eagles, played a little bit, lost his job to
- 26:43Speaker 1: Nick Foles that year that Nick Foles was a rookie,
- 26:45Speaker 1: and then he bounced around a little bit, and then
- 26:48Speaker 1: he was out of the league.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Then all of a sudden, he's.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Coaching for Northwestern and then coaching back with Andy as
- 26:53Speaker 1: a coach. But he's obviously someone who steeped and Andy
- 26:56Speaker 1: Reid's West Coast principles.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:58Speaker 3: The thing I look about Kafka is, you know, unfortunately
- 27:04Speaker 3: there his tenure as the offensive coordinator, he got the
- 27:08Speaker 3: plays he was given play calling, Dable took it back
- 27:11Speaker 3: and give it back to him. But the cool thing
- 27:14Speaker 3: about what he did is talking to son to coach
- 27:16Speaker 3: with him, is that he doesn't see it like a
- 27:20Speaker 3: lot of these Andy Reid guys like he Yes, Andy
- 27:24Speaker 3: brought in his horizons. He wasn't so Mike Holmgren West
- 27:29Speaker 3: Coast vision like it. It's sees it like Shanahan. He
- 27:34Speaker 3: they took it a different way. Kafka's big on trick
- 27:36Speaker 3: plays like h sorts of different. He sees it a
- 27:40Speaker 3: little differently like he's he sees it. He's outside the
- 27:43Speaker 3: box thinkers as this coach Tuck. He told me, So
- 27:46Speaker 3: that was good to know. Uh, super smart guy, this
- 27:49Speaker 3: coach said, Uh, and look, you love that he's worked
- 27:52Speaker 3: with quarterbacks someone.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Yeah, he's worked with a lot of them, Mahomes and
- 28:00Speaker 3: Jackson Dart obviously.
- 28:02Speaker 2: So that's Daniel Daniel Joes.
- 28:05Speaker 1: I mean, who's the Who's the guy who became a
- 28:07Speaker 1: cult hero in New Jersey, DeVito, But yeah, I mean
- 28:12Speaker 1: he's come across a lot of different guys.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Winston made some start.
- 28:17Speaker 4: It seemed like he was able.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I don't know if it's him directly, but watching the
- 28:20Speaker 1: Giants over the last five Wandale Robinson started to get
- 28:23Speaker 1: more involved. Theo Johnson got a little bit more involved
- 28:26Speaker 1: in the offense, and and you're right, the offense. The
- 28:30Speaker 1: offense looked a little bit differently when when he was
- 28:32Speaker 1: finally able to just have the play calling and not
- 28:35Speaker 1: worry about it getting taken away every two seconds.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Yeah, right, exactly. So it's, uh, it's just kind of
- 28:41Speaker 3: funny that Kafka and Dable interview list. It's just got
- 28:45Speaker 3: a funny you know that they worked together.
- 28:47Speaker 2: But anyway, I know it is kind of interesting.
- 28:48Speaker 1: And then of course I think you predicted this was
- 28:50Speaker 1: going to happen just because, all right, Nick sirian is
- 28:53Speaker 1: gonna get one of his guys, Jims, James Robert Couter.
- 29:00Speaker 1: This to me is like Nick Sirianni bringing in a guy,
- 29:03Speaker 1: you know, you give him a chance that's his. But
- 29:05Speaker 1: there's so many kind of red flags to it. He's
- 29:07Speaker 1: not been a play caller, right, No, he has no, No,
- 29:11Speaker 1: he wasn't playing calling plays in Indianapolis, correct, Yeah.
- 29:13Speaker 3: No, yeah, no he at Indy not calling it because
- 29:16Speaker 3: Chrishane Steykeen is. No, he did a good job. He
- 29:21Speaker 3: was like the sexy name and like twenty seventeen.
- 29:26Speaker 4: Lions was that when he was at the Lion?
- 29:27Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, correct, yes, with Stafford because he was Stafford. Yeah,
- 29:31Speaker 3: and then he was unfortunate with the staff that got fired, right,
- 29:34Speaker 3: and he kind of moved on and he's kind of
- 29:38Speaker 3: bounced around, and he's a really sharp guy.
- 29:41Speaker 2: It's just.
- 29:43Speaker 3: He's this is a this is a guy who was
- 29:46Speaker 3: here in Philly, so he kind of knows. He knows
- 29:48Speaker 3: about her team. He was on the stage. He was
- 29:50Speaker 3: a consultant's more of a senior offensive assistant. Yes, doing
- 29:53Speaker 3: advanced projects and so forth.
- 29:55Speaker 4: Honestly, he just should have been with the team last year.
- 29:58Speaker 3: But I coordinated, like he said, with the red flag,
- 30:01Speaker 3: this is not I like, I like the calf go
- 30:05Speaker 3: on day ball is a home run. It's going to
- 30:07Speaker 3: be very difficult. Zach Robinson's different. Yeah, I mean Jim
- 30:11Speaker 3: Bob Couter is here, so he least knows the challenge
- 30:13Speaker 3: with hurts of strength and weaknesses and everything, all the
- 30:16Speaker 3: whole package. He knows because he's friends with Nick and
- 30:19Speaker 3: they're other coaches. So but I just think this is
- 30:22Speaker 3: a look, it could be a fallback option.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Look.
- 30:25Speaker 3: I know he's a good coach, but I just don't
- 30:27Speaker 3: I want someone outside this trade man.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Come on, yeah, right, you're looking in order for people
- 30:32Speaker 1: to truly trust that Nick is handed over the keys
- 30:35Speaker 1: and they're not running some variation of Knicks offense.
- 30:38Speaker 2: And he's got a known his own acolyte in there.
- 30:40Speaker 4: And I think that I know what we know.
- 30:42Speaker 1: The reporting that's out there a little bit too much
- 30:44Speaker 1: is made of Jeffrey and how we are always going
- 30:46Speaker 1: to be involved in this stuff.
- 30:47Speaker 2: It should an offense.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Anybody that, no matter who gets hired into this. And
- 30:51Speaker 1: and by the way, Dom is sitting in it too,
- 30:53Speaker 1: like there are guys who are always going to be
- 30:55Speaker 1: involved in this process, so it shouldn't who's leading it
- 30:59Speaker 1: is almost not even is important.
- 31:00Speaker 3: I don't care.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it's right, right, They're all gonna talk about it
- 31:04Speaker 1: and all gonna figure out what's best for the team.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's there may be other names. I mean,
- 31:10Speaker 3: it generally takes ten to fourteen days to get a
- 31:12Speaker 3: coordinator higher because you have to go through you have
- 31:14Speaker 3: to go through Maney World candidates, right, You sometimes want
- 31:18Speaker 3: to have second interviews. Okay, that could happen. And then
- 31:22Speaker 3: there are other guys that are rumored. Cliff Kingsbury's not happened.
