- 4:44Speaker 1: working on Bowlie James, trying to get the whole fucking
- 4:46Speaker 1: Griselda to show up and show out. We're trying to
- 4:49Speaker 1: be like, you know, the fucking you know, I'm just
- 4:53Speaker 1: I'm just trying to be just somebody who really represents
- 5:03Speaker 1: that shit. And you know, that's just where I'm at
- 5:09Speaker 1: with this music shit. I'm like, man, listen, I'm gonna

- 6:14Speaker 1: in rambly. That's I apologize for that. I'm tired. Let's
- 6:18Speaker 1: get into the interview Benny the Butcher Yo Boutle Cab
- 6:23Speaker 1: Podcast Episode number whatever the fuck whatever episode. It is
- 6:30Speaker 1: technically second appearance on the podcast because we did something
- 6:33Speaker 1: on Zoom with the with the with the black soprano fan. Right,
- 6:36Speaker 1: Benny the Butcher is here, Yes, sir, I'm in the
- 6:38Speaker 1: building this time though he's in the building. This is
- 6:40Speaker 1: the way we like to do it. Man I don't
- 6:41Speaker 1: do zoom for a lot of people. We did zoom
- 6:43Speaker 1: for you and for Action Bronson, so you know, I
- 6:45Speaker 1: had to make a couple exceptions, but we got Benny here.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Burden of Proof is officially out and damn put Hey
- 6:53Speaker 1: look man, you I feel like, yes, sir, the whole
- 6:56Speaker 1: crew has been active all year, but you just kind
- 6:58Speaker 1: of saved all the AMMO for like the fourth quarter. Yeah. Man,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I just to be honest with you, because I'm always honest.
- 7:04Speaker 1: That's the only way not to be. I would have
- 7:07Speaker 1: I would have been put the album out, but it
- 7:10Speaker 1: was just so dope that we wanted to find a
- 7:12Speaker 1: home force so we could do something extra with it,
- 7:14Speaker 1: So we could do something special with it. We want
- 7:15Speaker 1: to line everything up with it. So that's why we
- 7:18Speaker 1: held on to it. But we could have been put
- 7:19Speaker 1: this shit out. You know what I'm saying. It was
- 7:21Speaker 1: a business decision. You know what I'm saying, talk about
- 7:25Speaker 1: because I was. I went to a couple of the
- 7:27Speaker 1: sessions when you and Hit were working at Chalice on
- 7:32Speaker 1: this project, and I remember when he like he told
- 7:35Speaker 1: me like, no, we're gonna do like a whole situation.
- 7:37Speaker 1: And I didn't even realize like I knew Hip Boy was,
- 7:40Speaker 1: Like I mean, of course, all time great producer, He's
- 7:42Speaker 1: been a friend of mine for a lot of years,
- 7:43Speaker 1: but like he really got in in his bag like
- 7:47Speaker 1: on some shit that like we probably ain't used to
- 7:49Speaker 1: hearing them all, Like how did they get like the
- 7:53Speaker 1: chemistry and the relationships start with you and hit Boy?
- 7:56Speaker 1: Oh man. So just by him reaching out to me
- 8:00Speaker 1: and telling me to come through, let's work already gave
- 8:03Speaker 1: me an idea of what type of person he was.
- 8:05Speaker 1: You feel what I'm saying. He didn't have to do
- 8:07Speaker 1: that right, right, because this was like late last year. Yeah,
- 8:10Speaker 1: So I come out just kicking it with him, you
- 8:13Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. He you know, you know you
- 8:15Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I'm very humble exactly, and I'm
- 8:19Speaker 1: kind of like the same way, you know what I'm saying.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So it was like it was like the synergy was
- 8:24Speaker 1: just there, you know what I mean. I enjoyed working
- 8:26Speaker 1: with him. I love the direction he gave me when
- 8:28Speaker 1: we're working on these records. I like working with like
- 8:29Speaker 1: producers instead of like just the beat makers. And you
- 8:33Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, I fed off his energy. You
- 8:35Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. He got like I'm coming through.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I'm seeing rappers do there? Oh yeah, everybody there right
- 8:45Speaker 1: right right right right? Uh nah crazy. I bumped into
- 8:49Speaker 1: a hold just a lot of people there. So it's like, Okay,
- 8:51Speaker 1: I like this energy do I'm Kennedy my boy. He
- 8:53Speaker 1: always chilling through there, you know what I'm saying. So
- 8:55Speaker 1: that type of energy there, you know, I like that.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Me and you were talking and we were talking how
- 9:05Speaker 1: this is your most commercial sounding project. Obviously we know Griselda,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and that's why I think it was so dope for
- 9:13Speaker 1: you to pivot away from, like, you know, kind of
- 9:16Speaker 1: the typical Griselda sound because you know, hey, like it works,
- 9:22Speaker 1: it's great, that's what we love. But I just thought
- 9:25Speaker 1: it was dope just to see you kind of step
- 9:26Speaker 1: out of your comfort zone. Do you how do you
- 9:30Speaker 1: feel about sonically where this album is and are you
- 9:34Speaker 1: afraid of any sort of like you know, man, Riselda
- 9:37Speaker 1: fans are crazy and they're extremely like I feel like
- 9:42Speaker 1: they're a little like anytime you have fans that are
- 9:45Speaker 1: like that with co followings, they feel like you're like
- 9:47Speaker 1: you're theirs. Yeah, they feel like they feel like, you know,
- 9:50Speaker 1: what I'm saying, you're theirs. They feel like, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 1: like we hope you get to where you at, so
- 9:54Speaker 1: don't change on us. And ah, but I understand where
- 9:57Speaker 1: the're coming from. But to be honest with you, I
- 9:59Speaker 1: am Griselda. You fee what I'm saying. So I could
- 10:01Speaker 1: I am the Griselda sound if our mother fucking spit
- 10:05Speaker 1: on the song Nigga, that's the Grisela sound Because I
- 10:07Speaker 1: am Griselda. I'm ben Ney the Butcher, one third of
- 10:09Speaker 1: Griselda that helped build this ship and put it where
- 10:12Speaker 1: it's at. You know what I'm saying. What I brought
- 10:13Speaker 1: to the table definitely played a part in to where
- 10:16Speaker 1: the gang at to day, you know what I'm saying,
- 10:18Speaker 1: Just like Western, just like Conway. So I don't I mean,
- 10:21Speaker 1: I am Griselda. So I don't understand it when when
- 10:24Speaker 1: they when they say that, they just typically they love
- 10:27Speaker 1: that dark ship with uh deer and you know what
- 10:31Speaker 1: I'm saying, that is our coreus sounds. So they kind
- 10:34Speaker 1: of don't want us to you know what I mean,
- 10:35Speaker 1: But it's their fuck y'all. Don't big y'all do them
- 10:39Speaker 1: blew us up? So big y'all y'all did it. Y'all
- 10:42Speaker 1: blow us up so big that you know what I mean,
- 10:44Speaker 1: that we gain different opportunities and and and let me
- 10:47Speaker 1: say this, and I was saying this before the album
- 10:49Speaker 1: came out. Uh, a lot of times we would cross
- 10:55Speaker 1: the bridge. But nine times out of ten, when people
- 10:57Speaker 1: work with us, they come on your You bring them
- 11:01Speaker 1: to your world. So more of me sounded like the
- 11:05Speaker 1: the mainstream artists you are usually here. Hit boy work
- 11:08Speaker 1: with he's going to sound you know what I'm saying,
- 11:10Speaker 1: He on, he on his gutter shit because he's a chameleon.
- 11:12Speaker 1: He tapping into his exactly. It's a new challenge for him,
- 11:17Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. It's like, Okay, I'm Griselda
- 11:19Speaker 1: Niggas tapping with Benny. Let's do that. Let's see, you
- 11:21Speaker 1: know what what I mean. So and it's worked out exactly
- 11:23Speaker 1: and it's beautiful. Yeah. Yeah, give me for for people
- 11:27Speaker 1: who will be good. Okay, Now I was gonna say
- 11:31Speaker 1: for people who don't know. Man, let's kind of like
- 11:33Speaker 1: go all the way back, Like we all know you're
- 11:35Speaker 1: from Buffalo. M hm you were you born in Buffalo? Yeah? Yeah,
- 11:41Speaker 1: when like kind of give me like a little background
- 11:43Speaker 1: of your childhood, man, Like how did you come up?
- 11:45Speaker 1: Like what like what made you first get into rapping?
- 11:47Speaker 1: And like what what like like how old were you
- 11:49Speaker 1: when you first like really kind of made the decision
- 11:52Speaker 1: to do this ship like all the way man growing up.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Growing up was dope. Man. I was born on my
- 11:59Speaker 1: Ti Avenue on the East Side. I moved to the
- 12:02Speaker 1: projects and we was always having our cousins over and
- 12:07Speaker 1: always watching TV and watching the movies and stuff like that.
- 12:10Speaker 1: So I always was in love with music. Like I
- 12:13Speaker 1: used to love Wild Wild West. That was my song,
- 12:16Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Yeah, yeah, but that used
- 12:18Speaker 1: to come on. My mom used to call me, like, Yo,
- 12:20Speaker 1: your song going, you know what I'm saying. So I
- 12:22Speaker 1: always loved that. We used to standing right in front
- 12:24Speaker 1: of the TV and just, i mean, act out whatever
- 12:26Speaker 1: they was doing in the video, you know what I mean.
- 12:28Speaker 1: So I always had that love for music. When I
- 12:30Speaker 1: was inspired to do it, I just I'm like, damn,
- 12:33Speaker 1: I was above average. I was better than average. So
- 12:35Speaker 1: it was something that I wanted to pursue. Like when
- 12:37Speaker 1: I was about fifteen. It's a group from my hood
- 12:41Speaker 1: named Killer Brown, and it's just like older dudes from
- 12:44Speaker 1: my hood. When I say older, a few couple years
- 12:46Speaker 1: older than me. I grew up with these dudes, went
- 12:48Speaker 1: to school with them, and these was my homies to
- 12:50Speaker 1: this day. They had a rap group called Killer Brown
- 12:53Speaker 1: from my block Mountain Avenue, and they performed at the Apollo.
- 12:56Speaker 1: They used to do all the back to school shows.
- 12:59Speaker 1: They used to do, like regular shows. The Warrens robe
- 13:03Speaker 1: was always put together. So I come from that, you
- 13:05Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. It's a long line of that,
- 13:07Speaker 1: like from my neighborhood. I mean, yeah, so when you
- 13:10Speaker 1: were about fifteen, you started to take this rap shit serious.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I do. I think that it's important that people realize, like, man,
- 13:15Speaker 1: this You've put in so much work over the years
- 13:19Speaker 1: and this was not like some overnight success shit. Like
- 13:24Speaker 1: I'm sure at a certain point in time, I mean,
- 13:28Speaker 1: was there ever a point in time where you get
- 13:31Speaker 1: like we're close to giving up on the rap shit,
- 13:33Speaker 1: because like, yo, man, like you know, it's like I said,
- 13:37Speaker 1: it's a marathon out here, especially being from Buffalo kind
- 13:41Speaker 1: of having that underdog mentality coming out of that city anyway,
- 13:43Speaker 1: like well being a hustler, being a hustler and being
- 13:49Speaker 1: so in love with this business and being so hungry
- 13:52Speaker 1: and wanting to pursue it so bad. I did have
- 13:57Speaker 1: the runnings and then out of prison, and I didn't
- 13:59Speaker 1: tell myself that I'm about to lead a rap game alone.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I never said that. What I told myself is that,
- 14:05Speaker 1: you know, you might not never like make it big,
- 14:07Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And I was okay with
- 14:10Speaker 1: maybe getting it to a point where I was just
- 14:13Speaker 1: making like local music, I mean local money off of it,
- 14:17Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Long, if it was like
- 14:19Speaker 1: maybe you know, like ten bands a month off music
- 14:21Speaker 1: would have been good. I would have been good with that,
- 14:23Speaker 1: or maybe even less, as long as I could have
- 14:25Speaker 1: made music and feed my family because I was just
- 14:27Speaker 1: so sick of the street shit and all of that.
- 14:29Speaker 1: So if I could have made it to that point,
- 14:31Speaker 1: I would have been happy and felt like I was successful.
- 14:33Speaker 1: So I didn't never even need all of this. Yeah,
- 14:36Speaker 1: me telling people like, if you can like pay your
- 14:38Speaker 1: bills off of music, like you're successful, he might not
- 14:40Speaker 1: be like platinum or exactly like most people just go
- 14:43Speaker 1: to work every day and to do they hate and
- 14:45Speaker 1: that's how they how many you say you went to
- 14:49Speaker 1: prison a few times. What was the longest stint you
- 14:51Speaker 1: did in when you were locked up? Two years? Two years?
- 14:53Speaker 1: What year was that? It's two thous This is two thousands.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I was in three. I was in I was in
- 15:03Speaker 1: high school in oh three, Yeah, that's where I was
- 15:05Speaker 1: supposed to have been. So O three did a couple
- 15:08Speaker 1: of years, obviously, what were what were the charges? Attempt
- 15:13Speaker 1: to distribute lying like like I lied about my name?
- 15:18Speaker 1: What's that? Oh? Yeah? Giving false information you can put
- 15:22Speaker 1: over like I don't. I did it in federal court.
- 15:25Speaker 1: They already had me on the I was on a
- 15:27Speaker 1: run for some other ship. So when I got caught up,
- 15:30Speaker 1: I'm not knowing how this federal shit go. Like when
- 15:31Speaker 1: they got you, they fucking got you. I'm thinking, I'm
- 15:34Speaker 1: about to lie about my name and leave some crazy ship.
- 15:37Speaker 1: So I lied about my name. They made me put
- 15:39Speaker 1: my I remember the fake name I gave them. They
- 15:42Speaker 1: made me put my hand on the Bible, raised my
- 15:44Speaker 1: right hand. It's like, state your name. I stayed my name,
- 15:47Speaker 1: I said, Benny Lyman. Before I can get my hand down,
- 15:50Speaker 1: the DA was like, actually around her, his name is
- 15:52Speaker 1: such as set my real name and there you go
- 15:55Speaker 1: new charge. Damn. So they was just they already had you. Yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 1: they just set me up to do that. Damn. So
- 16:04Speaker 1: you didn't want to be slipped when you was in
- 16:05Speaker 1: for two years? Was that a time? Because you know,
- 16:08Speaker 1: we all talk about we had a fraid O banging
- 16:11Speaker 1: here and he was kind of talking about how like
- 16:12Speaker 1: prison kind of helped reset his mentality there. I feel
- 16:16Speaker 1: like there's really no you know, there's there's certain ways
- 16:19Speaker 1: to look at the prison shit. For the most part,
- 16:21Speaker 1: it really doesn't rehabilitate anybody, but there are situations in which,
- 16:24Speaker 1: you know, people come out with a new mentality, Like
- 16:26Speaker 1: how like do you think that it helped you at all?
- 16:29Speaker 1: Like going in there? Like, I know, you're fucked up
- 16:31Speaker 1: to say that any time I ever went behind that wall,
- 16:34Speaker 1: I needed it. You know what I'm saying. You know,
- 16:36Speaker 1: the people who watching this interview, they know what kind
- 16:38Speaker 1: of people person I am, and they know what kind
- 16:41Speaker 1: of person he is. If you're watching his interview, if
- 16:43Speaker 1: you've ever been to jail, you know you needed it.
- 16:45Speaker 1: It's fucked up to say, but it's almost like it
- 16:48Speaker 1: if that wouldn't happen, you might have died or something. Definitely,
- 16:50Speaker 1: or would have ended up doing something to give more time,
- 16:53Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So you know, everything happens
- 16:56Speaker 1: for a reason. I'm a firm believer in that. And
- 16:58Speaker 1: I was just young, doing shit, not thinking I'm untouchable
- 17:02Speaker 1: and catching a federal case at eighteen. You know how
- 17:05Speaker 1: the federal case you know, that's that shit is you
- 17:07Speaker 1: gotta do what seventy percent of the time, no matter what, right,
- 17:10Speaker 1: it's a fat case, it's something like that. They change
- 17:12Speaker 1: it every time, right right right? Uh, you know, they
- 17:14Speaker 1: come with their bullshit. So it's like if the Feds
- 17:17Speaker 1: are coming at you, it's not like yo, man, like
- 17:19Speaker 1: good luck. That means that they're not They're not coming
- 17:21Speaker 1: at you unless they got you exactly nine times out
- 17:24Speaker 1: of ten. So so after going through that, like I
- 17:28Speaker 1: kind of knew more like, man, you better if you're
- 17:29Speaker 1: doing that, you better, boy, because when they come, they
- 17:31Speaker 1: go you know, or I knew certain people who had
- 17:33Speaker 1: a fair case and they're like, Okay, I got this case.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I'm about to do this. I'm like, no, don't do
- 17:36Speaker 1: that because they will lose you. You know what I'm saying,
- 17:38Speaker 1: You will never see a family again. So I knew
- 17:41Speaker 1: even though I was high headed still at times, but
- 17:43Speaker 1: I still had that. I got to learn from that.
- 17:45Speaker 1: So you had to you had to do fed time
- 17:46Speaker 1: those two years. Was that a I heard our federal
- 17:50Speaker 1: prison is supposed to be like nicer than other ones. Yeah, yeah, okay, boom,
- 17:54Speaker 1: I wasn't. I ended up going to a camp, a
- 17:57Speaker 1: federal camp. I was in there with Emory Emery Jones. Okay, yeah,
- 18:00Speaker 1: same federal camp. And basically I remember I got to US.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I got to US, I got to the Atlanta USP
- 18:07Speaker 1: and I was talking to my bunkie. He was telling
- 18:10Speaker 1: me about the Atlanta camp. He was like, yeah, yeah,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I was at the camp and you know what I mean.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I went to the mall. I left. He talking about
- 18:15Speaker 1: leaving the prison and going toward a mall, and I'm like,
- 18:19Speaker 1: I'm not even paying attention because they don't even sound real,
- 18:21Speaker 1: so I'm thinking, like it's just cap or whatever. So
- 18:24Speaker 1: I ended up making it to a spot a camp
- 18:27Speaker 1: and people are leaving the jail. It got a gate
- 18:30Speaker 1: around it, but it's like no gun towers and it's
- 18:33Speaker 1: got and it's like the perimeters is next to a
- 18:36Speaker 1: medium medium security prison and it's a camp, a minimum
- 18:39Speaker 1: security person. You know what I'm saying. For people set
- 18:41Speaker 1: who's on their way home. You know what I'm saying.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Emrie was there at the end of his bed. Uh So, yeah,
- 18:48Speaker 1: people deleat the motherfucker. That's what people do. And I
- 18:51Speaker 1: left my baby, mama, Cam, I left, I got some pussy.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I brought ship back into jail and everything had a
- 18:56Speaker 1: cell phone, all type of shit. Jordan's Henny every So
- 19:00Speaker 1: you could have well first brought into Bazookah. So at
- 19:03Speaker 1: that point in time, they're not considering that ship contrabandy.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Did you have it tucked? Hell? Yeah, they didn't know
- 19:08Speaker 1: we had that ship. Where do you hide the bottle
- 19:10Speaker 1: of hennessy? Uh to be honest with honest with you,
- 19:13Speaker 1: we held it. Okay. First, it's a team of us.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Shout out my man, say man, my man, sway, my
- 19:19Speaker 1: man adjusts. Those are dudes I was locked up with,
- 19:23Speaker 1: uh sam man. He used to he used to be
- 19:26Speaker 1: like a porter, so he used to like do the trash.
- 19:29Speaker 1: So he used to like hide the ship under the
- 19:30Speaker 1: trash can. He's the only person who trusted who touched
- 19:33Speaker 1: the trash on the unit. So he used to hide
- 19:35Speaker 1: this ship under the trash under the trash lining. Yeah,
- 19:37Speaker 1: hell yeah. So what we did it was glass bottle though,
- 19:39Speaker 1: so what the fuck is glass doing on the prison?
- 19:40Speaker 1: Con do it? After we drink the bottle, he'll put
- 19:44Speaker 1: the glass in the pillow case, break it up, break
- 19:46Speaker 1: it up real fine, and dispose of it. So it's
- 19:50Speaker 1: just crazy. But damn, that's crazy. So you got to leave,
- 19:54Speaker 1: get pussy, bring ship back in. It was kind of like,
- 19:58Speaker 1: you know, like, I mean, that shit sounds and she
- 20:01Speaker 1: sounds crazy now, mind you. Even though this is a camp,
- 20:03Speaker 1: this is still prison, still fucking prison. So it's people
- 20:06Speaker 1: in here who who who've been in here for twenty years,
- 20:09Speaker 1: who never didn't no shit like that in twenty years.
- 20:11Speaker 1: It was just niggas like that in there who just
- 20:13Speaker 1: wanted this for me to tell the story. Okay, oh,
- 20:15Speaker 1: young young blood. So I heard you left yesterday. Man,
- 20:19Speaker 1: I wasn't out there. Can I smell your fingers? Like
- 20:24Speaker 1: these niggas is they can't believe I was just out
- 20:26Speaker 1: there like that. You know, back in here, these niggas
- 20:28Speaker 1: been down for twenty joints. That's crazy. Ay, So you
- 20:31Speaker 1: said you were locked up with Emory, did you guys
- 20:32Speaker 1: have a relationship. When you were locked up together, Emory,
- 20:35Speaker 1: you know, he was a dude. Everybody bothered Emory because
- 20:37Speaker 1: they knew it was like, Yo, this is you know,
- 20:39Speaker 1: I mean that was homes man, and we know when
- 20:41Speaker 1: this nigga go home, he was going to be even
- 20:43Speaker 1: though he came in, he came home and he worked
- 20:46Speaker 1: for his and he became for sure man, Oh for sure,
- 20:49Speaker 1: I mean yo, man, like let like you know, obviously
- 20:51Speaker 1: we don't really know exactly what happened, but he kind
- 20:53Speaker 1: of you know, he took that on the on the
- 20:55Speaker 1: chain for them. You definitely definitely, uh you know what
- 20:59Speaker 1: I mean. I really let him live, you know what
- 21:01Speaker 1: I'm saying. But we knew of each other, We knew
- 21:05Speaker 1: who each other was. So like, were you because in prison,
- 21:10Speaker 1: you know where like were you like known as a
- 21:12Speaker 1: rapper there? Like were you like where their cipher's going on?
- 21:15Speaker 1: Like or was it something that you did you just
- 21:17Speaker 1: kind of like didn't advertise to people? Man, Hell yeah,
- 21:21Speaker 1: I advertised. That's nothing that I couldn't hide. See now,
- 21:24Speaker 1: in federal prison, they got things that they call cars.
- 21:27Speaker 1: They would take you, they would take you to wherever
- 21:29Speaker 1: it state you from. When you get on the compound
- 21:31Speaker 1: and they're like where you from, I say Buffalo. They'd
- 21:34Speaker 1: be like, okay, we'll take you to the We would
- 21:36Speaker 1: take you to the New York car. So that's what
- 21:38Speaker 1: they did. They took me to the New York cars.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Niggas from Brooklyn, hirelm Bung Bung bung. You feel what
- 21:42Speaker 1: I'm saying. Uh, even though New York is one place
- 21:46Speaker 1: you don't already know how that is. It's territorial, you
- 21:48Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. You know, niggas, niggas, niggas, you
- 21:51Speaker 1: know how New York niggas is. They looked at me
- 21:53Speaker 1: like this, niggas from Buffalo exactly. So I caught that vibe,
- 21:57Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And then I just I
- 21:59Speaker 1: really just on my own, you know what I mean
- 22:02Speaker 1: for a second till niggas see me coming back with
- 22:05Speaker 1: that big bag of commissary all the time, they see
- 22:08Speaker 1: the you know what I mean, They see I'm moving
- 22:10Speaker 1: with a certain way, so you know, niggas get in
- 22:12Speaker 1: my business. They start talking to me then about prison.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Once you it's about open up doors in prison. When
- 22:18Speaker 1: I first get to jails, I never let nobody I
- 22:20Speaker 1: used to never let nobody know I rap, because I
- 22:22Speaker 1: know I'm about to wrap my ass off and then
- 22:24Speaker 1: the whole jail gonna be on me. So I took
- 22:26Speaker 1: I took like two months oft before letting people know
- 22:28Speaker 1: I rap, cause nine times out of ten, I'm always
- 22:31Speaker 1: like the most professional rap nigga there. Now, through throughout
- 22:34Speaker 1: all of this, I had a video through the time
- 22:37Speaker 1: in jail, I had a video on b et Uncut,
- 22:39Speaker 1: So I was always the you know what I mean,
- 22:41Speaker 1: the most professional. I had flyers, I had all type
- 22:43Speaker 1: of shit CDs and so niggas like, oh no, he
- 22:45Speaker 1: really rapped, you know what I mean. So it's nothing
- 22:47Speaker 1: that I and this one jail, they had a spot
- 22:50Speaker 1: where niggas wrapped every Friday night, so everybody would just
- 22:52Speaker 1: being there, just going going in every Friday night when
- 22:55Speaker 1: niggas a meet up on this comment to be a
- 22:56Speaker 1: whole bunch of niggas in every rap. I went to
- 22:58Speaker 1: that shit like three times, buried that shit, and didn't
- 23:01Speaker 1: go for the rest of the time I was at
- 23:02Speaker 1: that jail. Damn, that's crazy. So you're in prison, this
- 23:07Speaker 1: is O three to five ish. Let's just say that ballpark.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Can you talk about because I, you know, I have
- 23:15Speaker 1: my my history with taking ls in life, and what
- 23:19Speaker 1: is the biggest L you ever took in the streets?
- 23:21Speaker 1: Do you remember whether it was something that got caught
- 23:24Speaker 1: up in the mail or you know, I you know,
- 23:27Speaker 1: there's different ways that things he getting mm hmm. Well
- 23:33Speaker 1: now when this happened, I was locked up. But this
- 23:38Speaker 1: is the team I'm saying. Before I go to jail,
- 23:41Speaker 1: we was moving doing what we do, and then I
- 23:43Speaker 1: got this new and I'm only I'm only in jail
- 23:45Speaker 1: for a violation, so I'm about to come back home.
- 23:47Speaker 1: So I leave the organization and I go to jail,
- 23:52Speaker 1: and then I hear the news like ah, man, I'm
- 23:54Speaker 1: like fuck, so when I like come home, we're like
- 23:56Speaker 1: starting for scratch basically, like yeah, like shit. It's crazy
- 24:02Speaker 1: too because being in LA and just kind of knowing
- 24:04Speaker 1: like what packs will move for, like you probably get
- 24:06Speaker 1: the most for a pack in fucking Buffalo. Hell yeah, yo,
- 24:11Speaker 1: the person who got caught with that is probably still
- 24:15Speaker 1: in probation for that ship right now. That's a lot
- 24:17Speaker 1: of weight, man. Yeah real, would you guys ever like
- 24:20Speaker 1: come it was a female too? Oh yeah, that's I mean,
- 24:22Speaker 1: that's held it down. That's kind of the go to, right,
- 24:25Speaker 1: you get to check this down, and you know she
- 24:27Speaker 1: held it down and it wasn't her first rodeo neither.
- 24:30Speaker 1: And then the forming of Griselda, you being officially involved
- 24:34Speaker 1: with Griselda, Like fast forward, you get out of prison.
- 24:37Speaker 1: When when when was that something that like you know
- 24:40Speaker 1: kind of started to like become like official or the
- 24:43Speaker 1: Griselda thing. Yeah, it's a whole different time. I'm coming out.
- 24:50Speaker 1: This is later. Yeah yeah, okay, Uh, West and Conway
- 24:58Speaker 1: and me, we always been doing our thing for you years.
- 25:01Speaker 1: It's just evolved into different things. Like we was all
- 25:03Speaker 1: fucking with DJ Shay, Yeah, rest in peace, DJ Shay.
- 25:08Speaker 1: We was all signed to Shae, and then I kind
- 25:11Speaker 1: of like stayed with Shae, but I kind of like
- 25:14Speaker 1: I was with Shae's company. Then I kind of like
- 25:16Speaker 1: brought Shae into my company. I learned a whole lot
- 25:18Speaker 1: from him. I kind of like he he like learned
- 25:22Speaker 1: so much from him. He like catapulted me to start
- 25:23Speaker 1: my own shit and he just helped me. Same thing
- 25:27Speaker 1: with Wes and Conway. They was doing they own shit
- 25:29Speaker 1: over there, but we was always doing songs together and
- 25:34Speaker 1: like twenty sixteen, that's when I noticed it. Twenty fifteen,
- 25:38Speaker 1: that's when I noticed what the fuck they had going on.
- 25:42Speaker 1: But around that that happened to them. And you know,
- 25:43Speaker 1: people asked me this question, but I was brought in
- 25:47Speaker 1: on Groselda. You know what I'm saying. By the time
- 25:50Speaker 1: Wes brought me in, the Shady deal was right there.
- 25:53Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I was put in on
- 25:54Speaker 1: that when he knew when he found out he was
- 25:56Speaker 1: about to get the Shady Deal, he was like, oh shit,
- 25:58Speaker 1: and we go get my cus. You feel I'm say
- 26:00Speaker 1: so he put all the pain in to get to
- 26:01Speaker 1: that point, you feel what I'm saying, him and Conway.
- 26:03Speaker 1: So when I got brought in around that time twenty sixteen,
- 26:08Speaker 1: I'm just hungry, ready to go, you know what I'm saying. Yeah,
- 26:10Speaker 1: I feel like you were kind of you know, watching
- 26:13Speaker 1: those freestyles back then, Like you know, I just remember
- 26:17Speaker 1: I forget which I think it might've been on Static show.
- 26:18Speaker 1: You had to fucking the Shan McCoy on, you had
- 26:22Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills had and I was like, you know,
- 26:24Speaker 1: obviously it was about gun and Conway at the time,
- 26:26Speaker 1: and then like yo, this dude, Benny is crazy, and
- 26:30Speaker 1: I almost felt like every time you had the opportunity,
- 26:33Speaker 1: you were like, Yo, I gotta I gotta like show
- 26:35Speaker 1: my ass on these fucking freestyles. And that's what it was.
- 26:38Speaker 1: And them dudes always motivated me to do that before,
- 26:41Speaker 1: like yeah, you know, you gotta kill this shit, you
- 26:42Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Yeah, Yo. I feel like Tanner
- 26:48Speaker 1: Talk three was such a very important moment in your career.
- 26:53Speaker 1: I feel like that you were putting out dope projects
- 26:56Speaker 1: prior to that, but I feel like that that was
- 26:57Speaker 1: like the project where like you really like started to
- 27:01Speaker 1: really like step into your own as far as acknowledgment
- 27:05Speaker 1: in the industry, you know what I'm saying, Like, do
- 27:09Speaker 1: you remember like that, like that album coming out, Like
- 27:14Speaker 1: did you have the feeling that like things were gonna
- 27:17Speaker 1: change after that, because it felt like that album comes
- 27:19Speaker 1: out Obviously Plugs I Met was really that project, but
- 27:22Speaker 1: I feel like Tanna Talk three was like kind of
- 27:25Speaker 1: your coming out party, if that makes sense. Yeah, and
- 27:29Speaker 1: that's what happened for But did I see it? Yes?
- 27:32Speaker 1: And no, I see I didn't see it because this
- 27:35Speaker 1: is all uncharted territory for me. I really don't know
- 27:38Speaker 1: what to expect. You feel what I'm saying. I know
- 27:41Speaker 1: Conway doing good numbers on the West is like I said,
- 27:44Speaker 1: they brought me in. That don't mean I'm a you
- 27:46Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So, but I did believe it
- 27:50Speaker 1: because you know, the niggas was telling me that, like, Yo,
- 27:51Speaker 1: watch watch the when tend to Talk three drove watch this.
- 27:55Speaker 1: I'm telling you, everybody I played that for before it
- 27:57Speaker 1: came out had the same reaction as when it came out, like, Yo,
- 28:01Speaker 1: this shit is crazy. So that having that tape done
- 28:04Speaker 1: for about a year or so before it came out,
- 28:06Speaker 1: I played it for everybody, and my confidence was already
- 28:09Speaker 1: up before it dropped because I played it for people
- 28:11Speaker 1: for a year, played it for Ray and he was
- 28:15Speaker 1: playing it. Uh, used to play it, play some ship
- 28:18Speaker 1: for Roy's. Just played it around my peers and ship
- 28:22Speaker 1: and everybody fucked with it. Now, I remember Green Lantern
- 28:24Speaker 1: like telling me pretty early, like yo, like Conway's dope,
- 28:28Speaker 1: but like Benny's like special special, and yeah, like I
- 28:32Speaker 1: feel like that that project really kind of solidified kind
- 28:35Speaker 1: of your path that you're on right now. And obviously
- 28:37Speaker 1: Plugs I met is a fucking classic. That's my ship.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I mean, it's a classic, that's my ship. I don't
- 28:42Speaker 1: say that very lightly, right right, right, So you can't
- 28:44Speaker 1: call and I mean, that's a classic project and and
- 28:48Speaker 1: and on that project one of the best. I mean, dude,
- 28:50Speaker 1: the record with Push is like one of the best
- 28:52Speaker 1: choke rap songs ever created. Like it's like sh it's
- 28:55Speaker 1: like all like it'd be like if someone was I'm
- 28:58Speaker 1: going to cut you off. I tried to call that song,
- 29:00Speaker 1: uh drug dealer anonymous too. Yeah, they ain't let me,
- 29:05Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I sent it to get
- 29:06Speaker 1: I sent it in, turned it in and labeled they
- 29:09Speaker 1: and they called it and I think somebody from somebody's
- 29:11Speaker 1: side it was like, yeah, he can't do that, don't
- 29:12Speaker 1: call it that. And I'm like, eighteen wheeler. Eighteen wheeler.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Of course, when when did you when you wrote your
- 29:18Speaker 1: verse for that record, did you know Push was getting
- 29:20Speaker 1: on it? Mm hmm, so you kind of like you
- 29:22Speaker 1: like that, you were like, yo, I gotta come with
- 29:24Speaker 1: that talk. That's one of the that's one of the
- 29:28Speaker 1: few records that I knew the person was getting on
- 29:32Speaker 1: when I did the joint, But I did I knew
- 29:33Speaker 1: that for Black Thought too, So you gotta when you
- 29:36Speaker 1: know Black Thought at Pusher getting on two different records. Yeah, yeah,
- 29:39Speaker 1: those are jedis Man right. So that's why y'all want
- 29:42Speaker 1: to know why I'm rapping like that on them songs
- 29:43Speaker 1: because I know what I know where them shits is
- 29:45Speaker 1: landing at. You feel what I'm saying, So I remember
- 29:48Speaker 1: and push up like yo, I needed it. He's like, nah,
- 29:50Speaker 1: I got you. I'm like, oh shit, I'm like, yo,
- 29:52Speaker 1: load this up shape, I did that shit immediately fire.
- 29:55Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. We were talking to like
- 29:58Speaker 1: how disappointing it had to be. You were supposed to
- 30:00Speaker 1: go out on the world to Russ. You're on Russ's album,
- 30:04Speaker 1: you know, shout out to Russ for just giving so
- 30:06Speaker 1: much free game, and I think, shout out to the
- 30:08Speaker 1: big dog russ Man. Russ a great dude, But like,
- 30:11Speaker 1: how did that happen? Like Russ and Benny on the record.
- 30:15Speaker 1: When that track listing dropped, I was like, I want
- 30:16Speaker 1: to listen to that song with listen row song. You
- 30:18Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. But like, like obviously respects you
- 30:21Speaker 1: as an MC, and Russ doesn't get enough love for
- 30:23Speaker 1: his capabilities an MC as well. He don't we listen.
- 30:27Speaker 1: We actually got a record. I don't know when he
- 30:29Speaker 1: gonna drop this record, motherfucking Russ, Bennie and black Dog
- 30:38Speaker 1: and it's just going. We just and we both like
- 30:40Speaker 1: we all rapping long. Wow. You feel what I'm saying.
- 30:43Speaker 1: It's almost like a five six minute song. Everybody's rapping long.
- 30:47Speaker 1: It's a crazy song. Wow. I feel like it's gonna
- 30:50Speaker 1: be a moment when it come out. Damn crazy. Yeah,
- 30:55Speaker 1: he just tapping with you on DM because he's obviously
- 30:57Speaker 1: a fan of your ship. Yeah, yeah, you know what
- 30:59Speaker 1: I'm saying. You just tapped me on the DM. Like
- 31:01Speaker 1: Russell get enough credit for like his lyrical ability. Sure
- 31:04Speaker 1: could do anything, and he gives free game to everybody.
- 31:07Speaker 1: So no matter where hit the career path, no matter
- 31:12Speaker 1: no matter where that took him, he still got the
- 31:15Speaker 1: ability that he got so he could notice it in others.
- 31:18Speaker 1: You feel what I'm saying. So a person don't gotta
- 31:20Speaker 1: be all big and nothing like that. He just reaching
- 31:22Speaker 1: out for the sport of it. Like I like this, dude, Yeah,
- 31:24Speaker 1: we should work. So shout out to Russ because I
- 31:26Speaker 1: love and niggas do that and and help niggas with
- 31:29Speaker 1: opportunities and I do the same thing. What I'm saying
- 31:31Speaker 1: I reach back to I mean, listen, we talked about
- 31:33Speaker 1: this on Zoom, but you know two records in the
- 31:36Speaker 1: camp with Drake two, So that's it. I mean, listen,
- 31:41Speaker 1: you just dropped an album that got to come out.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Wayne and Sean on it talking about him all the time.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Drake records. I mean, like we think of how many
- 31:52Speaker 1: times that guy's jumped on someone's records and change their life.
- 31:57Speaker 1: You already got your own ship, you know what I'm saying,
- 31:59Speaker 1: But like to have Drake, like whose hands is is
- 32:03Speaker 1: it in? For those records to come out? Is it
- 32:04Speaker 1: in his hands? Is it in your hands? Is it? Like? What?
- 32:07Speaker 1: Like I'm assuming one's coming out with his ship. One
- 32:10Speaker 1: might come out on your ship, Like whose hands is
- 32:11Speaker 1: that in? Oh? Yeah, that's that's the plan. Uh. He
- 32:14Speaker 1: put one out and I'll put one out, you know
- 32:16Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Even if but trust me, I feel
- 32:19Speaker 1: like because you know, at the end of the day,
- 32:21Speaker 1: this is a business. You know what I'm saying. It's
- 32:23Speaker 1: records that I didn't put on my album because it
- 32:26Speaker 1: wasn't it wasn't cohesive with with the album, not saying
- 32:28Speaker 1: that the records was bad. Records are crazy. I can't
- 32:30Speaker 1: wait to put them out on something else. Yeah, but
- 32:33Speaker 1: maybe if people don't get those records, I'm pretty sure
- 32:36Speaker 1: they get they get a record with Bro. You know
- 32:37Speaker 1: what I'm saying With me and Bro. You know what
- 32:39Speaker 1: I'm saying. I feel like it's something that he want
- 32:41Speaker 1: to do. But I feel like I'm did you body, Drake?
- 32:45Speaker 1: I don't think I hell no, did he? I mean,
- 32:48Speaker 1: Drake's a smart guy. He's obviously a fan of you,
- 32:51Speaker 1: so he has to come with his A plus game
- 32:53Speaker 1: to hop on a record with Benny because you know
- 32:56Speaker 1: the discussion will be like, Yo, Benny washed Drake. That's
- 32:59Speaker 1: what the first thing people people are gonna go to
- 33:01Speaker 1: see who got who? I'm not gonna lie. He's he's
- 33:04Speaker 1: like one of the most like comfortable person like he's
- 33:08Speaker 1: a Jedi. Yeah you know what I mean. So he's
- 33:10Speaker 1: like he's he said his verse first. Like a lot
- 33:14Speaker 1: of times dudes be scared to see you the record
- 33:16Speaker 1: with the first one that already because they feel like,
- 33:19Speaker 1: what you're gonna do when you come? I mean, he's
- 33:21Speaker 1: confident he like, huh, what you wanna do? What I'm
- 33:24Speaker 1: gonna do exactly? You know what I mean? And I
- 33:26Speaker 1: like that type of energy and that just let me
- 33:27Speaker 1: know a lot about him, man. He I mean, he
- 33:30Speaker 1: played his game the right way. Are there hooks on
- 33:32Speaker 1: either of the records or we just talking straight? Bars M.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I think the record that I got control of without
- 33:39Speaker 1: that that he letting me rock with is bars on there,
- 33:42Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. The other one is is
- 33:45Speaker 1: bars too. I'm already talking too much. Y'all going to
- 33:47Speaker 1: get these soon, baby, listen. We just we're talking too,
- 33:49Speaker 1: because I think that everybody's waiting for you and jay
- 33:51Speaker 1: Z to work together ever since the rock Nation thing. Ye,
- 33:54Speaker 1: everybody was. Everybody was thinking whole was gonna be on
- 33:57Speaker 1: burd and a proof. I was seeing it in the comments.
- 33:59Speaker 1: I'm like, yo, I hate the let the people down,
- 34:01Speaker 1: especially when you put the tape over the name when
- 34:04Speaker 1: you drop off. Because the big Sean verse happened, I
- 34:07Speaker 1: didn't hear I heard that record without Sewn on it,
- 34:09Speaker 1: So that Sean versus rather recent, right, Yeah, Because hit
- 34:12Speaker 1: Boy played me that record, it just had Wayne on it.
- 34:14Speaker 1: People just knew it was whole I kind of think
- 34:16Speaker 1: people knew. I mean I kind of think like we
- 34:20Speaker 1: knew people was gonna think that. So that's why it's like, Yo,
- 34:22Speaker 1: tape the name we played into that. Yeah, for sure,
- 34:28Speaker 1: is that something that like obviously everybody wants to do
- 34:30Speaker 1: a song with jay Z. Everybody does. You have a
- 34:33Speaker 1: direct line with Hoop like you, but you also don't
- 34:35Speaker 1: want to be the guy that just asks for the verse.
- 34:38Speaker 1: You kind of wanted to just happen. Yeah, of course
- 34:40Speaker 1: I wanted to just happen. But I'm not gonna lie
- 34:42Speaker 1: I act as big homie for the verse because it's
- 34:44Speaker 1: like you cannot like not ask for the verse, like
- 34:48Speaker 1: you got to let them know, like yo, you know
- 34:49Speaker 1: what I mean. But it's something that was gonna happen.
- 34:51Speaker 1: I was saying this, if I was to get a
- 34:53Speaker 1: whole verse, I would be the the person who got
- 34:57Speaker 1: one of the quickest hovedn't hand versus out like that,
- 35:00Speaker 1: and he don't hand him out that quick. When people
- 35:02Speaker 1: get a whole verse, you're already a legend solidified in
- 35:05Speaker 1: a game by the time you get the verse nine
- 35:07Speaker 1: times out of ten. And I'm not at that point yet.
- 35:10Speaker 1: You know what, I'm saying maybe, but I don't know,
- 35:13Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, maybe, I don't know. I
- 35:15Speaker 1: know I know that he wanted to do it because
- 35:17Speaker 1: we spoke about it. Yeah, but is the time? Is
- 35:19Speaker 1: the time right? Maybe? Not? Facts. You were one of
- 35:24Speaker 1: the only people who who weren't necessarily when the Griselda
- 35:27Speaker 1: thing happened. You were not officially on Shady right, so Conway, Uh,
- 35:34Speaker 1: you know, uh west Side and uh and the Griselda
- 35:37Speaker 1: project came out through Shady, but you necessarily you didn't
- 35:39Speaker 1: have that Shady like label backing, Like, did Eminem try
- 35:43Speaker 1: to sign you later on after shit kind of started
- 35:47Speaker 1: to get moving? Like was that was that there ever
- 35:50Speaker 1: any discussions if you coming over to Shady officially? Definitely? Definitely, Uh,
- 35:54Speaker 1: Shady Records try to pursue me after after did you
- 35:57Speaker 1: kind of like like like what made you kind of
- 35:59Speaker 1: pass on? That was the fact that they didn't see
- 36:00Speaker 1: it from the jump? M N. I never took it
- 36:04Speaker 1: personal because I immediately understood the business of it, but
- 36:10Speaker 1: I kind of like I kind of like knew what
- 36:12Speaker 1: the being under the Shady umbrella was and then it
- 36:16Speaker 1: was like we was already under there, so like maybe
- 36:19Speaker 1: let me get over here so you know what I'm saying,
- 36:20Speaker 1: or go wherever. I like, don't put the cruise eggs
- 36:23Speaker 1: in the same baskets, know what I'm saying. No, that's fair.
- 36:26Speaker 1: It would talk about the friendly competition between you, Gun
- 36:29Speaker 1: and UH and Conway because I feel like it's definitely there,
- 36:32Speaker 1: Like you guys are also you know, especially you and
- 36:33Speaker 1: Conway on the MC side, but like quality of music,
- 36:37Speaker 1: all three of you guys are out of here. Pray
- 36:38Speaker 1: for Paris one of the best albums of the year.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Guns dropped three projects this year, You're about to drop
- 36:43Speaker 1: your second. Conway dropped two, but shit, three projects this year. Yeah,
- 36:49Speaker 1: but like, is the competition it seems very healthy and
- 36:53Speaker 1: you guys were I always whenever you guys drop some
- 36:56Speaker 1: shit and there's like those quintessential like Positi cuts, Expers
- 37:00Speaker 1: three or whatever, it is like that's like my first
- 37:02Speaker 1: record I go to. But like, is it is it competition?
- 37:06Speaker 1: And is it like has it ever been to the
- 37:07Speaker 1: point where you're like ship, like I got gone on
- 37:10Speaker 1: this record? Like I feel like when you have three
- 37:13Speaker 1: artists on that level of rapping, hm, you know, it's
- 37:17Speaker 1: gotta it's gotta be like steal sharp and steel. Now
- 37:20Speaker 1: now is it? It's a competition. I can't look up
- 37:23Speaker 1: here and say it's not competition, right, you know what
- 37:25Speaker 1: I'm saying. But it's trust me, is healthy competition. And
- 37:27Speaker 1: it's not like devious competition, right right, right, right right.
- 37:30Speaker 1: It's like, uh, you know, you know what kin, we're
- 37:34Speaker 1: gonna do. So you want to know what I mean?
- 37:37Speaker 1: So you want to you want to bring your ship too,
- 37:39Speaker 1: and we go to the we go to the shows.
- 37:43Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like what the what the
- 37:45Speaker 1: fuck this nigga be saying. He'd be like, uh, you know,
- 37:48Speaker 1: they get crazy loud for Westside Gunship. You feel what
- 37:51Speaker 1: I'm saying, They get crazy loud. So it's like he's
- 37:53Speaker 1: like the Paul Hayman of the crew. Yeah exactly exactly.
- 37:57Speaker 1: So it's just like everybody bringing their own ship. But man,
- 38:00Speaker 1: when I hear the people loud at the shows for
- 38:03Speaker 1: uh Wes, I want them to be loud for me.
- 38:06Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. When I see the comments, yo,
- 38:08Speaker 1: conwe dropped the classic, I want my shit to be
- 38:10Speaker 1: classic too, of course, I mean. So it's like it's
- 38:13Speaker 1: that type of shit and it's almost like, you know,
- 38:15Speaker 1: just trying to keep up with each other. And shit, Yo,
- 38:18Speaker 1: would have you and fred ever talked about doing the
- 38:21Speaker 1: EP together? Hell yeah, cause you and Freddie we just
- 38:24Speaker 1: have that discussion in there and it was like, Yo,
- 38:26Speaker 1: like this shit is like it has been a very
- 38:30Speaker 1: long time. We have Kendrick, we have Drake, we have Cole.
- 38:34Speaker 1: It's been a long time since we've gotten another one
- 38:36Speaker 1: of those guys on that Mount Rushmore. And we were
- 38:39Speaker 1: just talking like you and fred are like, I feel
- 38:43Speaker 1: like got that chance. And Fred's obviously a OG was
- 38:48Speaker 1: on the twenty ten Freshman cover. Yeah fire, Yeah, and
- 38:52Speaker 1: we know we wear them shoes in the game. And
- 38:54Speaker 1: it's just dope to be mentioned like that, you feel
- 38:56Speaker 1: what I'm saying, to be mentioned with the likes and
- 38:58Speaker 1: be mentioned and the and that type of manner of
- 39:01Speaker 1: being on a Mount Rushmore. But but you and Fred,
- 39:04Speaker 1: I feel like you have got great chemistry. I know,
- 39:06Speaker 1: he fucked You're one of the few people in the
- 39:07Speaker 1: industry that he actually likes. That's my asshole, that's my
- 39:10Speaker 1: fucking boy. You know what I'm saying. That's my boy.
- 39:12Speaker 1: And we talk about that all the time. We need
- 39:14Speaker 1: to make that happen. I'm a call on when I
- 39:16Speaker 1: finished this shit, we need to make that happen, you
- 39:18Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. A little quick ep, just something
- 39:20Speaker 1: for the fans, for the streets, and we have fun
- 39:22Speaker 1: doing it. We had so much fun, all right, So
- 39:25Speaker 1: burning the proof is out and we've talked with I mean,
- 39:27Speaker 1: I've heard you talk about can to talk for Plugs
- 39:30Speaker 1: I met too. I know I've heard you say maybe
- 39:34Speaker 1: like what Plugs I met too? Is at what's next
- 39:37Speaker 1: on the and is it done? Everything done? Every record
- 39:42Speaker 1: is clear, every sample is clear on it. Everything is
- 39:45Speaker 1: done except the whole verse the Plugs I met too,
- 39:50Speaker 1: Everything was done before Burton a proof. That's what I'm
- 39:52Speaker 1: telling people, is like I could have dropped that. I
- 39:55Speaker 1: held off on purpose, you know what I'm saying, because
- 39:57Speaker 1: you know the fans be thinking a nigga not in
- 39:59Speaker 1: the studio, But like I held off that been ready.
- 40:01Speaker 1: We was really like moments away from pressing a button
- 40:04Speaker 1: on Plugs I met Too. But it was like, let's
- 40:08Speaker 1: catch this lightning and a bottle real quick and then
- 40:10Speaker 1: go catch that lightning in a bottle too. Can you
- 40:12Speaker 1: kind of give me some of the uh, some of
- 40:15Speaker 1: the game on your merch because I feel like rappers
- 40:17Speaker 1: who are watching this day like they might be able
- 40:19Speaker 1: to come up on some game with what y'all are
- 40:21Speaker 1: doing in the merch game, and like what's the most
- 40:23Speaker 1: y'all have ever? Like, what's the most you've made on
- 40:25Speaker 1: a merch drop in a month? Not to be in
- 40:27Speaker 1: your pockets, but you know, for inspirational purposes, the most
- 40:31Speaker 1: I ever made? It was like four hundred thousand, four
- 40:33Speaker 1: hundred k on on a was it a hoodie? Was
- 40:37Speaker 1: it a shirt or was it shirts? That shit is crazy?
- 40:41Speaker 1: Four hundred thousand? Hell yeah? Did you you feel like
- 40:45Speaker 1: I just did it? I just did a merge drop
- 40:46Speaker 1: a couple of days ago. I know, shout out, those
- 40:48Speaker 1: hooies are for the pirate cities, Go grab those those joints. Fire. Yeah.
- 40:53Speaker 1: I was so mad when I went to the fucking
- 40:55Speaker 1: La show out here because the only thing that was
- 40:56Speaker 1: left was like something you had for sale for four
- 40:58Speaker 1: hundred dollars or something. I was like, fuck man, I
- 41:01Speaker 1: think it was like a jacket or something, or something
- 41:03Speaker 1: like fucking Butcher, like fucking Apron or something. Damn. Yeah,
- 41:09Speaker 1: it was kind of crazy, man, all right, So we're
- 41:10Speaker 1: gonna get plugs. I met two next, Yeah, that's coming next,
- 41:13Speaker 1: that's coming next. I got I got Fat Joe on
- 41:16Speaker 1: their two chains on their French manten on there, Jim
- 41:19Speaker 1: Jones on there. It's crazy. Obviously you have Black soprano family.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Conway's got drum work music, Griselda's you know, obviously you
- 41:31Speaker 1: know family, But like how important it is? How important
- 41:35Speaker 1: is it for you to build your own imprint because
- 41:39Speaker 1: you know, the fucking mixtape was fire. Shout out the drama,
- 41:41Speaker 1: shout out to the whole crew, hem, shout out to
- 41:43Speaker 1: to Rick Hyde, But like, how important is that for
- 41:46Speaker 1: you to kind of like I'm not saying break away
- 41:48Speaker 1: from Griselda, but like have your own identity that's outside
- 41:51Speaker 1: of Griselda. Uh, it's super important, you know what I'm saying.
- 41:55Speaker 1: It's super important in an aspect of not me trying
- 41:59Speaker 1: to have my own identity, but being in a position
- 42:02Speaker 1: that I am, I got a responsibility, you know what
- 42:04Speaker 1: I'm saying. And Black Soprano family, it's really the family.
- 42:09Speaker 1: And this is all dudes who are extended Griselda family.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Like I seen Rick Ki make a tweet other the
- 42:15Speaker 1: first time I met rick Y was with Conway. He
- 42:17Speaker 1: came and they both reestyled on my shoulder. Conway exactly,
- 42:20Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So, uh, rick Hay like
- 42:23Speaker 1: recorded Doctor Birds, he recorded, like you know what I'm saying.
- 42:26Speaker 1: So he these just like family. So they all had
- 42:29Speaker 1: their own relationships with Griselda. And you know, we like
- 42:32Speaker 1: people compares to the Wu Tang klan, and we kind
- 42:34Speaker 1: of are like the Wu Tang clan. We got a
- 42:36Speaker 1: whole bunch of different niggas. And rik Ki just been
- 42:38Speaker 1: around forever, and he and Conway damn there from the
- 42:41Speaker 1: same hood. You feel what I'm saying. Me and heme's
- 42:43Speaker 1: from the same hood. So it's like, you know what
- 42:46Speaker 1: I mean, it's just extended family. And these are dudes
- 42:49Speaker 1: who These are dudes who watched us make it to
- 42:54Speaker 1: where we made it at and got the opportunity now
- 42:56Speaker 1: too to be a part of it. You feel what
- 42:58Speaker 1: I'm saying. So it's super important that I take the responsibility,
- 43:02Speaker 1: uh serious, and and make away some my some sort
- 43:06Speaker 1: of guys who helped me get here could eat too.
- 43:09Speaker 1: I think everybody asked, you know, the top rappers question,
- 43:12Speaker 1: but give me your top five albums off the top
- 43:14Speaker 1: of your head. This isn't like a cement list. Just
- 43:17Speaker 1: what are the five albums? Come? Come, come up? Okay, Okay, Uh,
- 43:22Speaker 1: I gotta go, I gotta go, Reasonable doubt, Okay, my
- 43:27Speaker 1: favorite whole album, I gotta go. I gotta go. Uh
- 43:35Speaker 1: uh we Are the Streets, the Los album, The Locks, yep,
- 43:43Speaker 1: I love that album. Uh, Life after Death big mm hmm,
- 43:51Speaker 1: and I gotta go. Nas I Am Interesting, I Am,
- 43:57Speaker 1: I Am, I Am the third album, I Am, I Am.
- 44:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you a story behind that
- 44:04Speaker 1: because I get that reaction all the time because I
- 44:06Speaker 1: feel like it's either it was written or illmatic because
- 44:08Speaker 1: everyone's answer, but I Am is I Am. When I
- 44:12Speaker 1: came out, that's when I'm understanding music. So I went
- 44:14Speaker 1: back to those you feel what I'm saying, That's when
- 44:17Speaker 1: I'm under I'm fourteen. I remember buying that album vividly.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Is a about that in TLC's fan mail as a kid. Yes,
- 44:23Speaker 1: it all came out at the same time. I remembered
- 44:26Speaker 1: ninety nine. I remember that, you know what I mean?
- 44:28Speaker 1: What's the fifth one? Man? I would have to say
- 44:30Speaker 1: the fifth one is Butcher on Steroids. Go check that out.
- 44:36Speaker 1: If you never heard Butcher on Steroids, go hear that.
- 44:38Speaker 1: People always ask me what's my best album? I can
- 44:41Speaker 1: never pick. I heard. I listened to that the other
- 44:43Speaker 1: day and I had to stop. I had to be
- 44:45Speaker 1: real with myself. Butcher on Steroids are some of my
- 44:48Speaker 1: best best work. I'm saying that shit is up there,
- 44:51Speaker 1: but on steroids. Butcher on Steroids with Green Lantern, yoh,
- 44:54Speaker 1: shout out to Green Man. Hey you you know what
- 45:00Speaker 1: I love about what you guys do is like you
- 45:01Speaker 1: guys will do a whole project with hit Boy or
- 45:03Speaker 1: a whole project with Alchemist. You know what I'm saying,
- 45:05Speaker 1: like mad madly whatever the fuck? Right? Uh? Is there
- 45:09Speaker 1: any other producer that you would like to lock in
- 45:11Speaker 1: with for that kind of You know, the hit Boy
- 45:15Speaker 1: shit is crazy burning a proof out now go support it.
- 45:17Speaker 1: But is there another producer outside of Darren j'r, outside
- 45:19Speaker 1: of kind of that you would want to lock in with? On?
- 45:21Speaker 1: I think you and Primo would be crazy. That's what
- 45:24Speaker 1: I was about to say. I want to lock in
- 45:25Speaker 1: with pream Man, I want to lock in with Ninth,
- 45:32Speaker 1: I want to lock in with just just be crazy.
- 45:37Speaker 1: You know what I mean, and yay too. What I'm saying.
- 45:40Speaker 1: If you don't get elected president, maybe you have some time.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Are you voting for? Can you vote? Can vote? I'm
- 45:46Speaker 1: not voting. I'm not. Yeah. You you know. I was
- 45:48Speaker 1: talking to Conway and he was kind of explaining to
- 45:51Speaker 1: me the like, you know, his trip to Wyoming and
- 45:53Speaker 1: all that shit. Did you like your relationship with Kanye?
- 45:56Speaker 1: Is there one there is? There was that more him
- 45:58Speaker 1: and gun? Or yeah? It was more him a gun.
- 46:01Speaker 1: I'm a shout out ya yo know what I'm saying,
- 46:03Speaker 1: because they invited me, but I mean that was more.
- 46:05Speaker 1: I think he like him and they did something together,
- 46:07Speaker 1: but I was more him a gun. Can you talk
- 46:08Speaker 1: about because I know you got to get out of
- 46:10Speaker 1: here the rock Nathan, the Rock Nation guys waving waving
- 46:13Speaker 1: at me, the man with the ponytail real quick, man,
- 46:17Speaker 1: because I think it's important for anyone who's listening or
- 46:20Speaker 1: watching this to kind of inspirational purposes. Man. You you
- 46:23Speaker 1: know I just saw your daughters like going to college,
- 46:27Speaker 1: right like you're a fucking father, You're I want I
- 46:33Speaker 1: want you to kind of give me, you know, your
- 46:35Speaker 1: take on the perseverance that it took for you to
- 46:37Speaker 1: get to this point, because I think a lot of
- 46:38Speaker 1: people look at you as a new artist and look
- 46:40Speaker 1: at you like man, like you a grown ass man
- 46:42Speaker 1: with realized responsibilities in this world, and like you're just
- 46:45Speaker 1: hitting your peak. And I think a lot of people
- 46:49Speaker 1: they're they're they're in it for the quick nut, and
- 46:51Speaker 1: once something doesn't happen that they expect to happen as
- 46:54Speaker 1: quick as they'd like it to happen, they give up
- 46:56Speaker 1: and they walk away and question what they do, Like
- 46:59Speaker 1: like your as a whole kind of you know what,
- 47:02Speaker 1: what drove you the whole time? Man? And like just
- 47:07Speaker 1: my hunger for it, and uh, knowing I had the talent,
- 47:10Speaker 1: I always felt the responsibility to my talent because even
- 47:13Speaker 1: when I was in and out of jail, or even
- 47:15Speaker 1: when I was on the corners trapping, or even I
- 47:18Speaker 1: was serving niggas who wanted to who was my fans? Like, Yo, man,
- 47:21Speaker 1: you still rapping and I'm like, damn, I was just
- 47:23Speaker 1: in a studio earlier. Nigga asks me, Am, I'm still rapping,
- 47:26Speaker 1: and I thought I had shit on lock. You know
- 47:28Speaker 1: what I'm saying in the town when Nigga asks me,
- 47:29Speaker 1: is I'm still rapping. So I always felt that I
- 47:31Speaker 1: always had to answer that, and I feel like far
- 47:36Speaker 1: as my perseverance and everything, it's like people hear it,
- 47:40Speaker 1: but they don't. They don't really take it for what
- 47:42Speaker 1: is worth. Everybody want to do the cute shit. Nobody
- 47:44Speaker 1: literally when they get in this game, have discipline, you
- 47:47Speaker 1: feel what I'm saying. Discipline themselves and learn the business,
- 47:51Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, that's the higher part. Nobody
- 47:52Speaker 1: want to do niggas. These niggas selling all these records,
- 47:55Speaker 1: they still don't know the business. Nigga know, they still
- 47:57Speaker 1: don't know shit, you know what I'm saying. Get on
- 47:59Speaker 1: TV and they look like experts. These niggas don't know nothing.
- 48:02Speaker 1: So I did everything step by step because I couldn't
- 48:06Speaker 1: get in the records from Drake and pushing all them
- 48:08Speaker 1: niggas and that Wayne, that wasn't an option for me always,
- 48:11Speaker 1: So you had to earn that exactly exactly. So I
- 48:15Speaker 1: did it step by step. I really did it the
- 48:17Speaker 1: higher way. And you know, dudes don't want to do
- 48:18Speaker 1: it no more, but it's the most that's the most
- 48:21Speaker 1: valuable way to do it because it's always gonna be there.
- 48:25Speaker 1: You put a brick on top of a brick that
- 48:26Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, it's still you gonna go
- 48:27Speaker 1: watch exactly. So it's like this is something physical when
- 48:32Speaker 1: I know what I'm doing, This is physical because the
- 48:34Speaker 1: knowledge never go nowhere, you know what I'm saying. The
- 48:36Speaker 1: experience that you got from that hard work and never
- 48:38Speaker 1: go nowhere. And I felt like I just had the discipline,
- 48:42Speaker 1: and I tell I tell my team that, like the
- 48:45Speaker 1: number one thing is you got to have discipline, not
- 48:48Speaker 1: enough to hang around those dudes who gonna get you
- 48:51Speaker 1: some bullshit when you can't be here. You got to
- 48:53Speaker 1: have enough discipline not to take the easy money over
- 48:55Speaker 1: here when they're offering it to you. You got to
- 48:57Speaker 1: have a discipline and not to be over here fucking
- 48:58Speaker 1: with these bitches over here, instant grand bitches, screenshot your
- 49:02Speaker 1: messages and all that weird shit. You gotta have discipline
- 49:04Speaker 1: in this game and now to get you fired. And
- 49:06Speaker 1: I'm saying when I was talking to Conway, we were
- 49:08Speaker 1: talking and he was like, you know, when it comes
- 49:10Speaker 1: to the Griselda, you look at it like it's a body.
- 49:12Speaker 1: I'm the hard gun is the brain. And then he's
- 49:16Speaker 1: the muscle. What can you give me one thing? What's
- 49:21Speaker 1: the biggest thing that you've learned from Gun? Because I
- 49:24Speaker 1: feel like he is a genius. I feel like we
- 49:26Speaker 1: have we have seen very few people come through this
- 49:29Speaker 1: music industry to have his understanding of marketing. He's just
- 49:33Speaker 1: he's just a smart dude, man, and right, I learned
- 49:36Speaker 1: a lot of I learned a lot of marketing from him. Obviously,
- 49:39Speaker 1: I learned I learned a lot of just just do it.
- 49:44Speaker 1: It's just about doing it, like you could do what
- 49:45Speaker 1: you want to do. There's no blueprint for this. Ship
- 49:48Speaker 1: do it. You got an idea? Do it? You know
- 49:50Speaker 1: what I'm saying? Uh? What else? I mean? Just just
- 49:54Speaker 1: ship like that? Will there be another Griselda album? Hell?
- 49:57Speaker 1: Yeah for sure? Yeah? What was she gunn too? I heard?
- 50:01Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I think you want to
- 50:02Speaker 1: call it that? Well? Was she ain't gonna do too?
- 50:04Speaker 1: What was shein't gonna do too? You guys gotta have
- 50:06Speaker 1: so many fucking records? Just yes we do, Yes, we do. Hey,
- 50:10Speaker 1: I want to. I want to. I need to drop
- 50:11Speaker 1: the Me and the Bennie and Conway project, Like that's
- 50:13Speaker 1: what really, what we need, that's what the fans want,
- 50:15Speaker 1: That's what our fans want. Dom for real and me
- 50:18Speaker 1: and Conway we talked about it before too, you know
- 50:21Speaker 1: what I'm saying. You know, niggas got their obligations and
- 50:23Speaker 1: it kind of was gonna get in the middle of
- 50:24Speaker 1: the obligations, not saying that we gave a funk about that.
- 50:27Speaker 1: When you guys are each independent, that's like, you know,
- 50:30Speaker 1: I know Conway's got a shady album that's supposed to
- 50:32Speaker 1: come up at the end of the year, but like,
- 50:34Speaker 1: YO know we're talking about when we talked. When we
- 50:36Speaker 1: talked about it, then how many how many songs do
- 50:39Speaker 1: you guys? Have you guys like, have you guys officially
- 50:41Speaker 1: worked on records for that project or is it just
- 50:43Speaker 1: kind of like been talked about. It's been talked about,
- 50:45Speaker 1: so you guys haven't like, like, I think it should
- 50:47Speaker 1: be you Conway and just pick a producer to do
- 50:51Speaker 1: the whole joint, whether it's Darreinger. I think it really
- 50:54Speaker 1: should be Darringer, just for the fans to I think,
- 50:57Speaker 1: so if it's gonna be YouTube, it should be Darringer.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Just do it for the fans. Bro. Yeah, we weren't
- 51:01Speaker 1: having no other way that we we of course we
- 51:03Speaker 1: would do it with Darringer and uh we we haven't
- 51:05Speaker 1: done that because like that's a three four day thing.
- 51:08Speaker 1: You know how to Griselda projects be we get we
- 51:10Speaker 1: get together and we locked the fucking Have you guys
- 51:12Speaker 1: talked about a name or anything. Yeah, you guys will
- 51:15Speaker 1: sell so much fucking merch when that ship drops. Shout
- 51:18Speaker 1: out to Conray. Hey man, Benny, I appreciate you. I
- 51:20Speaker 1: know you gotta get baut Of here. Album is out,
- 51:21Speaker 1: Burden the Proof, go support it. Uh, Plugs, I meant
- 51:25Speaker 1: to come in before the end of the year, just

- 51:30Speaker 1: Uh no, not before twenty Yeah, we go on top
- 51:33Speaker 1: of January on that. Okay, the pressure is up. I
