Latest / Learn Dutch with Fexingo / Dutch Body Parts: Buik en Borst
Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another mini Dutch lesson? Luna: I am! Last time we did heup and schouder – my hip and shoulder still remember those. Lucas: Right, and today we're going a bit more central – the belly and the chest. Luna: Oh, like after a big meal? I know that feeling. Lucas: Exactly. So first, 'de buik' – the belly. Say it with me: de buik. Luna: De buik. That's kind of fun to say. Lucas: It is. Now, if your belly hurts, you say: Mijn buik doet pijn. Luna: Mijn buik doet pijn. So 'doet pijn' means 'hurts'? Lucas: Yes, exactly. And we already used that with other body parts, so it's a handy pattern. Luna: Great. Mijn buik doet pijn. I can say that after too many Dutch pancakes. Lucas: Ha, perfect example. Now, next: 'de borst' – the chest. Luna: De borst. That sounds like 'burst' but with an 'o'. Lucas: Close. So if your chest hurts: Mijn borst doet pijn. Luna: Mijn borst doet pijn. That's a bit more serious, right? Lucas: Yes, but good to know. Now let's practice with a tiny scene. You're at the doctor's. Luna: Okay, I'll be the patient. Dokter, mijn buik doet pijn. Lucas: And what if it's your chest? Luna: Dokter, mijn borst doet pijn. Lucas: Perfect. You just told the doctor exactly where it hurts. Let's repeat: de buik, de borst. Luna: De buik, de borst. I think I've got it. But let me try a sentence: Mijn buik doet pijn. Lucas: Good. And one more: Mijn borst doet pijn. Luna: Mijn borst doet pijn. So are these used only for pain? Lucas: Not at all. You can talk about your buik when you're full, or your borst when you breathe deeply. But for today, focusing on pain is very practical. Luna: True. So if I ever need to say 'my belly hurts' in Dutch, I'm ready. Lucas: Exactly. And if you're ever in the Netherlands and feel unwell, these phrases are lifesavers. Luna: Speaking of lifesavers, I actually told a friend about this podcast and they said it's been super helpful. Lucas: Oh, that's great to hear. Luna: Mijn buik doet pijn. Lucas: Anything else? Luna: Mijn borst doet pijn. Lucas: Okay, I'll take a look. You did great. Let's say them one more time: de buik. Luna: De buik. Lucas: De borst. Luna: De borst. Lucas: And the sentences: Mijn buik doet pijn. Luna: Mijn buik doet pijn. Lucas: Mijn borst doet pijn. Luna: Mijn borst doet pijn. I'm feeling more confident already. Lucas: That's the goal. Practice these until next time, and we'll see you in the next episode of Learn Dutch with Fexingo. Luna: Tot then! And remember, keep practicing – it's the best way to learn.
