Ep. 153. Who is Meggan in Marvel Comics?! · Vigilante Vibes Podcast

0:18
Hello Marvel nerds, I'm here with another character breakdown
0:22
and today I want to talk about Megan which who has a great name
0:26
by the way. Also I'm Megan from Vigilante
0:30
Vibes. Sorry I didn't introduce myself.
0:32
Please be sure to like and subscribe if you like any of
0:33
these character breakdowns because I have so many.
0:36
So Megan first appears in Marvel U KS Mighty World of marvel #7
0:40
in December of 1983 and was created by Alan Moore and artist
0:45
Alan Davis. Her origin story is told in
0:47
Captain Britain Volume to #8, which later was reprinted in the
0:52
Captain Britain trade paperback in the US.
0:56
Megan is from a traveler family supposedly from Russia.
1:00
Her dad William apparently had these creepy crawly dolls.
1:03
Megan is a mutant metaphor metamorph, which means she can
1:09
change her shape and she was born in London, England during a
1:12
huge Blizzard. She was born with fur to protect
1:16
herself from the cold, which was pretty wild.
1:19
Got a got a scare. People in her camp got all
1:23
superstitious about the wolf child and her.
1:26
Their fears actually shaped Megan's form.
1:28
Because she's an empath, her parents had to hide her from the
1:32
world. She only came out at night and
1:34
she was terrified of the full moon because it made her feel
1:37
blinding rage and pain during the day.
1:39
She'd watch TV and became a huge fan of Brian Braddock AKA
1:43
Captain Britain. When Megan was 17 years old,
1:47
this reality warping dude named Sir James Jaspers AKA Mad Jim
1:52
Jaspers took over the UK and started rounding up the
1:56
superhumans. Both Megan and her dad got
1:59
caught on roadblock and were sent to a concentration camps.
2:03
Separated from her family, Megan was stuck in cell 27 with a girl
2:07
named Sue Parsons who had a little bit of a psychic power.
2:11
They kept each other's hopes up by sharing rumors that Captain
2:14
Britain fighting was he was out there fighting to free them.
2:18
They were fangirling. Eventually, Jaspers was defeated
2:22
and the camps were torn down and the inmates were released, but
2:26
the memories of Jasper's reality warp faded and combined with her
2:29
normal confusion during a full moon, Megan couldn't remember
2:32
how she lost her family. After losing touch with Sue,
2:36
Megan was befriended by two teenagers, Mickey and Josie
2:39
Scott, who brought her food and helped her stay calm during the
2:42
full moons. But the weird smell of a
2:45
homeless man named Sydney Crumb, who was secretly infected by
2:50
this hero killing monster called the Fury, made a mood madding
2:54
Megan attack him. It was a total coincidence.
2:59
Maybe it wasn't, I don't know, since the Omniversal Guardian
3:02
Roma had a plan for them, but Captain Britain was nearby.
3:06
Crumb's screams got his attention, and he and Megan
3:09
started fighting. They accidentally knocked over
3:12
some scaffolding that hit and killed Mickey.
3:14
Megan immediately snapped out of it.
3:16
Full of guilt, she ran away. She secretly watched the Scott
3:19
family's house, and when she saw Captain Britain show up to
3:22
apologize after Mickey's funeral, Megan revealed herself
3:25
to do the same. Missus Scott, Mickey's mom, was
3:28
incredibly understanding and forgave them both, calling her
3:31
son's death an accident. After hearing Megan's story,
3:34
Captain Britain offered to help her find her family and invited
3:37
her to stay at Braddock Manor in the meantime.
3:41
As an empathic metamorph, Megan's form changes based on
3:44
her mood, and whenever she wants, she can impersonate
3:47
specific people or even take on features from animals like claws
3:50
or fangs. Normally she can't copy another
3:54
superhuman's powers unless there's a super strong energy
3:58
source helping her. Even in her normal form, she can
4:02
track people down by smell and sense all kinds of natural
4:05
forces like earthquakes, electromagnetic fields, and
4:09
psychic energy. She's also fully aware of her
4:12
surroundings and can sense nearby life forms that if she
4:17
concentrates hard enough. While she can't read minds, she
4:20
can sense emotions from a distance.
4:22
Her empathetic. Empathic.
4:25
If I if you hear me say empathetic, I mean empathic.
4:28
It's just messing with me today. Her empathic abilities also let
4:32
her understand any language just by grasping what the person is
4:36
trying to say rather than knowing the actual words.
4:41
She can also switch her vision to see the spiritual realm or
4:45
ultra. On the downside, she's
4:48
vulnerable to being possessed and can be negatively affected
4:51
by bad emotions, magic, pollution, anything that
4:54
corrupts nature. But she can morph to become more
4:57
resistant to these things if she puts an effort.
5:01
Megan can fly at a supersonic speed and has superhuman
5:04
strength, able to lift around 2 tons.
5:07
By absorbing energy from her surroundings, she can increase
5:11
her strength to over 100 tons, or even grow to a gigantic size.
5:16
We don't know her upper limits, but she once grew to almost 30
5:20
feet tall to challenge Galactus. The problem was doing that risk
5:25
draining the earth to its destruction, and still wouldn't
5:29
have given her enough power to defeat to defeat the World
5:32
Devourer. She can also manipulate natural
5:36
energy and elements, controlling lava, fire, electricity, wind,
5:40
and light with ease. She can even turn off
5:44
electronics, ignite projectiles, and cause highly localized
5:50
earthquakes. When she's in her Goblin
5:54
Princess form, her powers flip, allowing her to turn other
5:57
people into demonic or twisted versions of themselves, which is
6:01
like, that's, that's terrifying. Growing up, Megan faced a lot of
6:07
ridicule and judgment from people who feared what they
6:10
thought she was. She even survived the
6:13
concentration camps run by Mad Jim Jaspers.
6:16
As a member of the Team Excalibur, she battled Necrom, a
6:22
sorcerer who wanted to destroy the entire Omniverse.
6:26
She famously grew to a massive size to face the World Eater.
6:29
Galactus infiltrated the London branch of the Hellfire Club and
6:35
survived a trip to Hell. James Braddock Junior AKA Jamie
6:39
Braddock once teamed up with a Satyr 9 against Excalibur, but
6:44
Megan defeated Jamie and saved her teammates from his reality
6:48
warping attack. Megan later became Jamie's
6:51
sister-in-law after she was married and his to his younger
6:55
brother Bryan. When Jamie became a criminal,
6:58
both Megan and Bryan cut ties with him, but they later became
7:01
allies when he was reformed. Captain Britain was Megan's long
7:05
time partner on Excalibur and the romantic relationship went
7:08
through a lot of tough times, but they eventually worked
7:11
things out and got married. This made Megan's sister-in-law
7:14
to Bryan's twin sister Betsy Braddock AKA Psylocke at the
7:18
time, and their brother Jamie. Betsy Braddock does end up being
7:25
Captain Britain. The members of Excalibur has
7:29
changed over the years. The original team put together
7:32
by Roma included Captain Britain, Kate's Kitty Pride,
7:35
Lockheed, Kurt Wagner, you know Nightcrawler and Rachel Summers
7:39
AKA Phoenix who went later went by Marvel Girl.
7:43
This that's who it was when I first started reading Excalibur
7:46
was one of the first comics I ever read so it's doing an
7:51
episode on Megan is absolutely my pleasure.
7:55
Newer members joined like Cerise, Farran, even Myra
7:59
Mctaggart and what I always say in these videos it always goes
8:03
back to Myra Mctaggart as well as Catherine and Pride Rasputin
8:10
AKA Widget from Earth 811, Peter Rasputin AKA Colossus and Doug
8:17
Locke who later became Warlock. Peter Wisdom Raffney Sinclair
8:23
Ronnie Sinclair Who is wolfsbane.
8:26
Before marrying Brian, Megan was attracted to him partly because
8:29
of the interdimensional energy around him was so beautiful, but
8:34
she lacked confidence and thought of herself as ugly.
8:36
A telepath and fellow houseguest named Allison double saw Megan's
8:40
aura and told her that she could change her appearance during a
8:43
fight with the children. Transformed by Jasper's reality
8:47
warp, Megan subconsciously changed herself into an elfin
8:51
blonde, making herself more physically and emotionally
8:55
attractive to Brian. They became a couple while on a
8:59
mission. While investigating Megan's
9:02
roots in Russia, she and Brian met a witch named Baba Yaga who
9:07
tried to make Megan's sacrifice Brian.
9:09
Megan resisted the witch's control and tapped into a
9:12
natural magic in the area, destroying her.
9:15
Soon after they got back to the UK, Brian's sister Betsy joined
9:20
the X-Men and seemingly died, though she was actually survived
9:23
with Roma's help, just AS Roma had planned.
9:27
This tragedy drove Megan and Brian to team up with the
9:29
surviving X-Men, Kitty, Pride, Nightcrawler, and Phoenix to
9:33
form Excalibur. Soon after the team was founded,
9:37
Brian and Megan's relationship was put to the test multiple
9:39
times. Megan invited their team mates
9:42
to live in the couple's small lighthouse home without asking
9:46
the territorial Brian first. Then Brian's old college
9:49
sweetheart, Courtney Ross came back just as Brian was getting
9:53
scared by how much Megan seemed to need him.
9:56
And to make things worse, Megan's empathic mirroring
9:59
started to make Nightcrawler feel more and more attracted to
10:02
her, which is scandalous. When Excalibur went to New York
10:07
to fight the Inferno demon infestation, Nashor transformed
10:13
Megan into a wicked goblin Princess.
10:16
She was only freed from this influence by the magic
10:19
disrupting Soul Sword. For a while after Megan's
10:22
control over her powers got worse, people thought it would
10:26
be because she was so far from her home country that she had
10:29
been on other trips without a problem, so it's more likely
10:33
there was just needed time to recover after the Inferno.
10:37
Shortly after getting back to Britain, Excalibur went on a
10:40
cross dimensional road trip. During this trip, Megan's week
10:44
empathic control caused her to have partial psychic mergers
10:50
with the telepathic Phoenix, until Bryant's hostile reality
10:54
warping brother Jamie split their energy mattresses apart.
10:59
Some time after Excalibur returned, Bryan got jealous of
11:02
Kurt's interest in Megan, which caused the fight between the two
11:05
men. Upset and unable to stop herself
11:08
from becoming what they wanted her to be while she was around
11:12
them, Megan took a break with Phoenix to find her missing
11:16
parents. The search LED them to Germany's
11:19
Black Forest, where they freed A captive Nuri, a mystical
11:24
creature. As it died, it showed Megan her
11:28
true self on the spirit plane Alshra and told her that she
11:33
wouldn't find her parents right now.
11:36
No longer so vulnerable to others desires, Megan returned
11:40
home where Brian and Kurt had also worked out their issues.
11:43
The team then fought and defeated Necrom.
11:46
The faux Roma had brought them together to fight in the 1st
11:49
place. Soon after, they were attacked
11:52
by Brian's old enemy, SAT's Year Nine, who had killed and
11:56
replaced Courtney Ross and her ally Jamie Braddock.
12:00
Jamie grotesquely transformed the team, but Megan resisted his
12:05
reality warping powers and forced him to turn everyone back
12:08
to normal. Brian briefly ignored Megan
12:11
because he was so obsessed with finding Satya 9 and getting
12:16
revenge for Courtney. He even got into a brawl with
12:19
Nightcrawler. But he realized his mistake,
12:21
took Megan on vacation, and proposed to her.
12:23
She said yes. However, after he temporarily
12:26
lost his powers because he was deprived of his Matrix energy,
12:30
Megan got worried that their relationship was only based on
12:33
their looks. But after a trip to Rachel's
12:36
dystopian timeline, Reality 811, you know from Days of Future
12:40
Past, the couple got past this fear.
12:44
But then the as Excalibur was returning home to their own
12:48
world, Earth 616, Brian got lost in the time stream.
12:52
Their mutual love allowed Megan to become a temporal anchor to
12:56
him, but her teammates didn't know this and only saw that she
13:01
had become completely unresponsive.
13:03
They took her to Muir Island Medical Facility for treatment,
13:07
and shortly after the founder of the facility, Doctor Myra
13:11
Mctaggart, joined Excalibur. Eventually, Rachel, who was a
13:16
temporal anomaly herself, along with Megan and the sorceress
13:21
Amanda Sefton AKA Magic Traded places Brian sacrificing herself
13:27
for her friend. Her experience as Brian's anchor
13:29
gave Megan better control of her powers, which Myra tested on
13:33
Mirror. After Megan showed that she can
13:35
control lava, she started using her Empathic Empathic, an
13:40
Elemental connection to actively affect the outside world instead
13:45
of just letting it affect her. After permanently relocating to
13:49
Muir Island, Excalibur spent the next few weeks fighting the
13:53
Phalanx, Black Air, and the London Hellfire Club.
13:58
Brian and Megan went to London to buy a ring, but the Dragons
14:01
of the Crimson Dawn attacked them and kidnapped Brian.
14:04
They wanted to use him to open a portal between Earth and their
14:08
Mystic realm. Excalibur rescued him, but Brian
14:12
had Megan use his body's Matrix energy to steal the portal,
14:16
which took away his powers. Needing time to adjust, Brian
14:19
asked Megan if she could wait for him a while He took a break
14:22
from the team. Megan agreed, but she missed him
14:25
terribly. Her loneliness, her friendship
14:27
with her new teammate Colossus, and her empathic abilities led
14:32
to a mutual attraction between them.
14:35
They never acted on it, but it put a strain on her friendship
14:38
with Peter and made them both feel guilty whenever Brian
14:41
returned. But Brian immediately forgave
14:44
them, and he and Megan were soon married and Other World by Roma.
14:48
At this point, Megan took Brian's last name, becoming
14:51
Megan Braddock. Excalibur broke up and Megan and
14:55
Brian moved back to Braddock Manor, but they were called back
14:59
into action to defend Otherworld against a warpy army led by the
15:04
computer mastermind. Brian got his powers back during
15:07
this adventure and was crowned the new King of Otherworld,
15:10
while Megan was his queen. During their reign they gave
15:14
powers to a new Captain Britain, Kelsey Lee, who later became
15:19
Lionheart, and with her help they fought off an attack by
15:22
Morgan Lafay. When a trans temporal tsunami
15:28
caused by Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlet Witch House of M reality
15:34
Warp hit Otherworld, Roma sent Brian and Megan back to Earth
15:39
616 to seal the breach before it spread.
15:42
Brian and Megan were briefly sucked into the Witch's
15:45
alternate reality and became Britain's monarchs, but they
15:48
soon got their memories back. With time running out and
15:52
believing they could survive inside, Megan entered the rift
15:55
and sealed it from within, trapping herself between
15:58
realities. Her lifeless body was eventually
16:02
found by the Hell Lord Plotka. When Plotka evaded Earth, he
16:07
used her to trick Brian into a pocket dimension trap.
16:11
Brian, realizing that everything else in the trap was an illusion
16:14
of his heart's desires, wrongly thought Megan was an illusion
16:17
too. His belief made Megan unable to
16:20
keep up with him when he left, leaving her trapped in trying to
16:24
find her way home with tons of hostile dimensions.
16:28
Trapped in Hell for many, many years, she eventually LED a
16:32
demon army that called her Gloriana.
16:35
When she finally escaped, she found herself face to face with
16:39
Victor Von Doom AKA Doctor Doom on Vlad Dracula, which is
16:43
Dracula's ship. She was soon reunited with her
16:46
husband Brian, and they, along with their MI 13 allies, stopped
16:51
Dracula and his buddies from invading the UK.
16:54
Megan joined Brian in starting the Braddock Academy and
16:58
represented the school when Doctor Henry Pym, AKA Hank Pym
17:03
held a Contest of Champions event.
17:05
She helped him, Jennifer Walters, AKA She Hulk and
17:09
Wolverine with the event. Megan and Brian later reunited
17:12
with their former Excalibur team mates to welcome Nightcrawler
17:15
back from the dead. Megan and Brian soon welcomed a
17:19
daughter into their lives, Margaret, whom they called
17:23
Maggie. Maggie started talking at only
17:25
three months old when their Excalibur team mates Kurt,
17:28
Rachel, and Kitty visited the family.
17:30
Megan snuck away and started sobbing.
17:33
Kitty and Rachel found her crumbled on the floor.
17:35
She revealed that her daughter was growing up way faster than
17:38
normal and her intelligence was already surpassed her own.
17:42
Megan also expressed her frustration about still
17:45
struggling with reading. Kate and Rachel reassured her
17:49
with some wise words, and the friends were soon attacked by an
17:52
old enemy of Rachel's. They quickly defeated the foe,
17:55
and Megan asked her friends if they'd all be Maggie's
17:57
godparents. They happily accepted.
18:01
While fighting Nate Gray, AKA X-Men, who wanted to make the
18:05
world remake the world, Megan and all the other mutants
18:08
suddenly vanished. They were actually transported
18:11
to a world X-Men had created, a kind of utopia where they were
18:15
no there were no X-Men, and every mutant's memories were
18:18
rewritten to make them less resistant.
18:22
In this world. Megan was an actress who worked
18:25
closely with Nightcrawler, A fellow Co star whom she had a
18:28
relationship with, and a daughter, Tanaya Jean.
18:31
When other mutants started to resist X Man's world, he
18:34
eventually released them all, sending them back home and
18:37
restoring their memories. Tania, however, seemed to die in
18:40
the process. When the Sovereign Mutants
18:44
nation state of Krakoa was founded, many mutants joined
18:47
their brethren on the island. Megan and Brian stayed in
18:50
Otherworld while her sister-in-law Betsy joined the
18:53
Corcoins. Soon the evil sorcerer's Morgan
18:56
Lafay attacked Otherworld and possessed Brian.
18:59
Betsy returned and took up her brother's title as the new
19:03
Captain Britain told you, while Megan's brother-in-law, Jamie
19:07
became the new King of the Otherworld.
19:10
Brian, now free from Morgan Lafay, was henceforth called
19:13
Captain Avalon. Otherworld was soon attacked
19:17
again, this time by Arrocco, and Betsy was shattered into pieces.
19:22
But she had apparently was she was apparently still alive.
19:25
Somewhere in the multiverse, Megan felt a pull to the side of
19:28
the crime. She asked her King's permission
19:30
to leave on a mission with the new Excalibur team, which
19:33
included Remy, Lebow, Rogue, Jubilee, Richter, all the good
19:40
insurance. Her king gave her his
19:43
permission. She kissed Brian goodbye,
19:45
leaving Maggie with him. Once in the wild part to the
19:48
other world, Megan felt a sense of freedom and reconnected with
19:53
the land thanks to her fairy heritage.
19:55
She communicated with the fairies and cast a spell to find
19:58
Betsy, but she needed her team mates to help her.
20:01
After they joined hands, they were connected to the Captain
20:05
Britain Corpse, a group of Captain Britain's from across
20:08
the multiverse who were all different versions of Betsy.
20:11
They promised Megan that they would also search for her
20:15
missing Betsy, who eventually returned and was restored thanks
20:19
to alternate dimension versions of Warren Worthington the 3rd
20:24
and the assassin Quanon, who is now Psylocke, whose body Betsy
20:29
used and to inhabit. Psylocke is a very confusing
20:33
character and I do have a complete breakdown of what went
20:36
on with that character so check out my channel again, sorry.
20:41
When the mutant hating despot Merlin and his right hand man
20:45
King Arthur took over Otherworld, determined to wipe
20:47
out all the witch breed, he sent Furies to hunt them down.
20:51
Megan joined the Knights of X to fight back and restore order to
20:55
her beloved home. The team began a search for the
20:59
Siege Perilous, a magical amulet and kind of a Holy Grail that
21:03
could help them defeat their enemies.
21:05
Their quest LED them to a mysterious wasteland called
21:08
Mercator, where Megan and the others had to face their deepest
21:13
fears. They soon discovered that
21:15
Mercator was the Siege Perilous, and when they opened it, it LED
21:19
directly to Krakoa. There, the mutants fought
21:23
alongside the Knights of X against Merlin's forces, who
21:26
were quickly defeated. With other worlds settled, Megan
21:30
soon helped Betsy fight one of their biggest enemies, a
21:33
returned Morgan Lafay. She also defended her husband
21:37
from an attack by the Furies Sibiots that hunt super powered
21:41
people. So that is Megan.
21:44
She is a lot of fun. Like I said, the first time I
21:47
met her I guess was when I first read Excalibur with Keddie,
21:52
Pride, Nightcrawler, Captain Britain.
21:54
And it's nice to see a comic book couple that actually like
21:58
went the distance, got married, did the family thing like
22:01
Captain Britain and Megan. So it's nice.
22:05
So here's some comics for you to check out just so you can get to
22:08
know Megan a little better. As always, if I forgot any or I
22:10
left any outlet me know in the comments because I haven't read
22:12
all of Marvel's comics. These are just ones I read.
22:16
So Excalibur volume 1 #44 to 46. That's a pretty good explanation
22:21
of Megan's back story. Excalibur #19 Captain Britain
22:25
and the MI 13 annual. But honestly, just check out
22:29
Excalibur. It's it's phenomenal.
22:32
You'll love it. So with that being said, Please
22:35
remember to like and subscribe so you don't miss any more of
22:37
the character breakdowns and have a marvelous day.
