- 0:06MAK: Hey, everybody. I'm MAK. And I'm Courtney. Welcome back to two m c. It's our weekly podcast where we share information about Martin County government, happenings, meetings, all sorts of
- 0:16Courtney: things that you wanna know about. Yes. And a special hello to our listeners. Hello, listeners. Okay.
- 0:25So this week, we had some things happen.
- 0:28MAK: We did. We had a board meeting on Tuesday. Mhmm. And while it was short, it
- 0:35Courtney: was pretty jam packed full of good stuff. I agree. That's what I would say. So let's get into it.
- 0:39MAK: You know, our growth management staff had a presentation too, actually.
- 0:44Courtney: They did?
- 0:44MAK: Yes.
- 0:45Courtney: I know. They don't know. So let's tell them.
- 0:48MAK: Okay. They talked about a comp plan amendment. Now this is the second time it's come before our board.
- 0:54Courtney: Mhmm. And it's about ADUs. Oh, please tell us.
- 1:00MAK: What are ADUs? Accessory dwelling units. Wow.
- 1:05Courtney: Learn something new every day.
- 1:06MAK: So it's really interesting and I think, folks in Martin County and across surely the state of Florida and actually throughout the nation are talking about housing and how, there seems to be a lack of housing for all different levels demographics of folks. So the accessory dwelling units,
- 1:28Courtney: they play a part in providing housing in our community. That So was really exciting, that passed. Awesome. That's good news. It is.
- 1:38And then we also had Land Development Regulation Amendment, also known as LDRs. Yes, LDRs. And this was the first hearing for that.
- 1:46MAK: Right, so that's going to come back again. So if you think about the comp plan amendment, the comp plan is really, if you will, it's our Bible, it's how you can do the things. It is the law of what you can do. Yes. It's it's what you
- 2:04Courtney: can do, and the LDRs are how you do those. Got it. Right? Yeah. Okay.
- 2:09And then we also had the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council do a presentation on Western lands. I thought that was fascinating. It was very fascinating. And he it's interesting because we do have our four story height limit.
- 2:25MAK: And so have all these things that make Martin County different.
- 2:28Courtney: Yeah. Right? Yeah. We're different here. Keep it the Martin County lifestyle, as some would say.
- 2:34And so because of that, you can really clearly see the line where Martin County starts
- 2:42MAK: and ends. If you look at aerials, photographs or drone footage or whatever, you can very clearly see even from Palm Beach County to the south Southern Martin County line and then for sure on the Northern line.
- 2:56Courtney: Yeah. And that is because of our land acquisitions and going into that, we also adopted a resolution Yes. For an acquisition of 1.019 acres.
- 3:09MAK: I was gonna say just a little over one, but
- 3:11Courtney: you can be there six Okay.
- 3:14MAK: I appreciate that, and I I think our listeners and viewers do too.
- 3:17Courtney: And that is going to be that parcel is located on Southeast MacArthur Boulevard, and it was recommended by our ELOC committee, which is our environmental lands or environmental lands oversight committee.
- 3:29MAK: Yes. And this is the addition to Perry Beach. Mhmm. Right? So it's in between the lagoon Yes.
- 3:39And the ocean. Yes. Nice. That ELAC committee, I know we've talked about it before.
- 3:44Courtney: They are rolling, rolling, rolling. They are. Are.
- 3:49MAK: It's super exciting. Think going back to Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, you were saying that that is one of the differences that we have here and how not only just our, conservation areas, but but these new lands that are purchased with the ELOC funds. They're not just owned by county. It's, there are multiple agencies that, share the ownership. Mhmm.
- 4:17And so those lands will be in conservation forever.
- 4:20Courtney: For forever.
- 4:21MAK: Yeah. And that's one of the things he was saying that really is one of the big differences Yeah. In how our conservation areas work.
- 4:29Courtney: Yes. It's a good County difference Yes. Some would say. When's our next board meeting? Do you know?
- 4:34Our next board meeting is February 10. It sounds far away. But it's not. I know.
- 4:40MAK: It's the January.
- 4:42Courtney: I know. It's crazy. It is. But we've
- 4:44MAK: got some good stuff coming.
- 4:45Courtney: Right? We do. Okay. For those of you that don't know or maybe you do. Oh, Martin Cares.
- 4:52Martin Cares.
- 4:52MAK: Right? We're
- 4:53Courtney: halfway through that Martin Cares program, the first session, and it's fantastic. It is. Truly, if you're interested in learning more about Martin County government, how things work, all the things that are happening
- 5:04MAK: because more more in-depth than what we cover here.
- 5:07Courtney: Yes. Yeah. Martin Cares, your place to be. And if you can't see me, I'm pointing at the camera saying you need to be there.
- 5:14MAK: Yeah. So we'll drop the information down in the show notes
- 5:16Courtney: Mhmm.
- 5:17MAK: So you can find out how to register. Yeah. But it's really just on our website.
- 5:20Courtney: And session two does start in March. So March? March. Okay. So get ready.

- 5:55Courtney: need a little more practice at Sailfish Sands.
- 5:57MAK: I do need practice. And and I was talking about that this weekend, and I may do that. I don't know. Maybe William, who's behind the camera, probably has not had an opportunity to watch all of our 52 episodes yet. Well But we did one at Selfish Sands, and we may or may not have been dressed up as bees.
- 6:19Yes. So if you're listening, you should
- 6:21Courtney: go and watch that one because it's pretty interesting.
- 6:24MAK: It is. But this, you wanted to talk about their unlimited play programming.
- 6:28Courtney: I was trying to say for you to practice Oh, yes. They have an unlimited play in the hitting base. Yeah. So you could go practice, and it's only $20 per person from 11AM to 2PM, Monday through Friday, and you get three hours of unlimited play at Sailfish Sands Hitting Base. That is cool.
- 6:47Yeah. So you can practice so you can, you know, play a little better.
- 6:51MAK: Thank you. I think everyone around me on the golf courses golf course wishes that I could play a little better. It's okay.
- 6:58Courtney: I probably should go there too. They're always like, playing through. I'm always like, watch out, and then it doesn't move. It's 4. You call 4.
- 7:06Yeah. Well, see, that's how good
- 7:08MAK: Oh, you duff it. It no.
- 7:09Courtney: It just doesn't move. I don't know. You're saying all these terms I don't know. She's a duffer. I'm not a golfer.
- 7:16That's for sure. What else we got? The lend a hand program. This is cool. Oh.
- 7:23Right? Look at We are lending a hand. Well,
- 7:27MAK: we are lending a hand, but we're also talking about our, human services department, along with Martin County Utilities. And it's a program that helps, Martin County residents if they're behind on a utility bill. Correct? Yes. On their water bills.
- 7:42Yes.
- 7:42Courtney: Water bills. Thank you. And there is some eligibility criteria.
- 7:47MAK: Mhmm.
- 7:47Courtney: You have to be a resident of Martin County.
- 7:49MAK: Customer of Martin County Utilities.
- 7:51Courtney: Yes. And below the 300% of the federal poverty level. Mhmm.
- 7:57MAK: And you have to have, like well, there are all sorts of criteria, but you can reach out to our human services staff.
