Speaker 1: this book was written by Luke, and as we know,

Speaker 1: Luke wrote the Book of Luke, and Luke was a physician.

Speaker 1: Luke was a doctor, very educated, and it says the

Speaker 1: former account I made. The former account he's talking about

Speaker 1: is the book of Luke. Oh Theopolis. Now, there is

Speaker 1: a couple of ideas of who this Theopolis character is.

Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you a couple and then I'm gonna

Speaker 1: Some say that he is an actual person. Some commentators

Speaker 1: say that he is Luke's master because back in those days, physicians,

Speaker 1: doctors used to be the slave of different people, you know,

Speaker 1: prominent slave owners, right, And so he could be writing

Speaker 1: back to his former slave owner. His slave owner probably

Speaker 1: got slaves or touched by the Gospel and allowed Luke

Speaker 1: to travel with Paul. Or it could just be a

Speaker 1: group of people. And so I just wanted to to

Speaker 1: point that out to you. But so o theopolis of

Speaker 1: all that, Jesus began both to do and to teach

Speaker 1: until the day in which he was taken up. After he,

Speaker 1: through the Holy Spirit, had given commandments to the apostles

Speaker 1: promise of the Father, which he said, you have heard

Speaker 1: all down here. Now, Luke, like I said, wrote both

Speaker 1: the Gospel of John and the Book of Acts as

Speaker 1: two volumes of the same story. Now, the works of

Speaker 1: Jesus continued through his followers, that they're not done right.

Speaker 1: Verse one says all that Jesus began both to do

Speaker 1: and teach in verse one of the Book of Acts,

Speaker 1: meaning Jesus his work did not end when he was

Speaker 1: ascended up into the sky. Noticed that the very beginning,

Speaker 1: it says, he began to do and to teach. So

Speaker 1: he was going to continue his work through the apostles

Speaker 1: in his disciples by the power of the Holy Spirit. Now,

Speaker 1: also if you look to verse eight with me real quick,

Speaker 1: but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has

Speaker 1: come up on you, and you shall be witnesses to

Speaker 1: me in Jerusalem and all Judea, in Samaria, to the

Speaker 1: ends of the earth. Hallelujah. That's amazing right there. Now.

Speaker 1: Verse eight is the key to the entire book. The

Speaker 1: word power here in the Greek is deunymous, for which

Speaker 1: we get the word dynamite. This is explosive power, transformative power,

Speaker 1: the kind of power that turns ordinary people into extraordinary

Speaker 1: witnesses for God. Amen, have you received the power of

Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit. That is a whole other experience we

Speaker 1: can have in our walk with the Lord. And also

Speaker 1: before the disciples could go out and change the world,

Speaker 1: they had to first wait for the promise of the Father,

Speaker 1: the baptism of the Holy Spirit. That's the second experience.

Speaker 1: The first experience is regeneration when you actually get saved,

Speaker 1: and then we need to wait and ask God. The

Speaker 1: baptism of the Holy Spirit. It's a reminder that we

Speaker 1: cannot accomplish the work of God without the power of God.

Speaker 1: When we say that again, we cannot accomplish the work

Speaker 1: of God without the power of God. Amen. So that

Speaker 1: we need to have a steady prayer life in fasting.

Speaker 1: There's a lot that comes with this. And when Jesus

Speaker 1: ascended in verse nine to eleven, that was not the

Speaker 1: end of his story. It was the beginning of a

Speaker 1: global movement that continues through us all even to this day.

Speaker 1: The Book of Acts has no amen. The Book of

Speaker 1: Acts is still being written through us and in us. Now.

Speaker 1: I love this. Right from the start, Jesus shows us

Speaker 1: that ministry is not something we do in our own strength.

Speaker 1: Before the disciples went out anywhere, Jesus told them to

Speaker 1: wait and beloved, that is hard to do. I mean,

Speaker 1: we want to move, we want to act, we want
15:17
Speaker 1: to fix things, we want to get things going the

Speaker 1: way they need to be. But Jesus says, wait for
15:25
Speaker 1: the promise. Sometimes God holds us still before he's preparing

Speaker 1: to fill us up. Now, as we think of the
15:42
Speaker 1: characters in the Bible who were instructed to wait on
15:47
Speaker 1: God and they struggled with it, sometimes it's hard for
15:53
Speaker 1: us to do nothing. The enemy speaks to us, speaks
15:56
Speaker 1: to our pride, and he's always telling us we need
15:59
Speaker 1: to act, we need to do something, we need to
16:02
Speaker 1: take care of this, we need to do that. Then
16:04
Speaker 1: you notice that, like even in your prayer life, things
16:08
Speaker 1: come up that either you need to do or you
16:12
Speaker 1: forgot about, or you get anxious. You just want to
16:14
Speaker 1: get up from your prayer time and go handle these things.

Speaker 1: The enemy doesn't like it when we sit quietly and
16:21
Speaker 1: wait on the Lord. Think about Abraham. Abraham was waiting
16:29
Speaker 1: on the promise of God Isaac. But Abraham was one
16:41
Speaker 1: hundred plus years old and his wife as well. They've
16:45
Speaker 1: waited twenty five years for the promised son, and it
16:51
Speaker 1: got impatient. They Sarah gave Abraham her handmaid, Hagar, and says,

Speaker 1: you know what, let's fulfill Let's help God out here.

Speaker 1: Let's fulfill God's promise through my handmaid. Because God is

Speaker 1: just taking too long. And so that was the impatience

Speaker 1: of Sarah and Abraham. And notice when they had the child,

Speaker 1: they had Ishmael together, that they began to blame one

Speaker 1: another because now Sarah was despised in the eyes of

Speaker 1: the mistress because she got pregnant. But Sarah couldn't get pregnant,

Speaker 1: so it wasn't Abraham. Abraham wasn't the issue. So now

Speaker 1: they're looking at Sarah like you're the issue. You're the
17:54
Speaker 1: reason why they can't have this child. And so Sarah

Speaker 1: began to treat her abusively and she had to flee.

Speaker 1: None of that was in the will of God. And

Speaker 1: even today we have conflict in the Middle East. You

Speaker 1: have the Jewish race constantly defending himself against the Middle Easterns,

Speaker 1: the I want to say Iraqians, but you know, the

Speaker 1: Middle Easterns basically the descendants of Ishmael. And even to

Speaker 1: this day there's still strife behind this situation. So there's

Speaker 1: power and God is still helping me. There is power

Speaker 1: in the waiting. It looks like you lost another one.

Speaker 1: And then also, like I said verse eight, is powerful.

Speaker 1: You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come

Speaker 1: upon you. That word of bund means to be covered,

Speaker 1: to be surrounded, to be clothed in His power. That's

Speaker 1: when your ministry changes. That's when fear turns into boldness.

Speaker 1: That's when you stop talking about the kingdom and start

Speaker 1: walking in the kingdom. Amen, hallelujah. The disciples watch Jesus

Speaker 1: stood there and watched, But the angels told them not

Speaker 1: to stand there gazing because Jesus is coming back. Family.

Speaker 1: gazing into heaven. They were idle, they were not working,

Speaker 1: they were not doing nothing, they were just sitting there gazing.

Speaker 1: God doesn't want us just to sit and gaze. He

Speaker 1: wants us to occupy until He comes. And so if

Speaker 1: you have not experienced the power of the Holy Spirit,

Speaker 1: the Bible says, we have not because we ask not.

Speaker 1: We need to ask the Holy Spirit. We need to

Speaker 1: ask the Father to give us that power, that boldness,

Speaker 1: to give us the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It's

Speaker 1: like a second experience, and we can be baptized many times.

Speaker 1: It's not just a one time experience. But especially if

Speaker 1: you have something to do, if you've been called on

Speaker 1: of task and outreach, we need to ask for the

Speaker 1: power of the Holy Spirit to empower us to accomplish
