Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to the Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: I've got to confess something here on this episode, which is as a kid, I absolutely despised PE in school.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: And it wasn't just because I lacked any discernible skills in athletics, which was of course true, but it was also because the PE teacher would often pick two team captains for dodgeball, and each one of those captains would alternate picking team members from among the students in the class.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: And naturally, I was always one of the last kids that was picked.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: And I hated feeling embarrassed, like I was some useless leftover kid who had no value when it came to winning a dodgeball game.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Not that I blamed either team captain.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: The truth is that I was pretty useless when it came to dodgeball.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: But be that as it may, maybe you have felt the same way at times.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: It's funny how we can carry old mental patterns from our childhoods into our adult years.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: And I suspect it's why a lot of adults never move past that fear of being left out, and they always want somebody else to pick them.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: About 10 years ago, I read James Altecher's really excellent book called Choose Yourself, and I highly recommend grabbing that book if you have struggled to put yourself out there and move beyond the need for other people to validate your dreams and goals.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Because the truth is that you always have to choose yourself first.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: If you're always waiting and hoping that other people are going to give you the green light to chase your dreams, you might be waiting a long time.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: That's why it's time to choose yourself.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: By the way, a great way to choose yourself is to join me for a free in-person workshop on Tuesday, September 29th.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: And the workshop is called Think Like an Author: Four Practices for Your Life and Writing.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: The workshop will be held here at the Commons, which is the co-working space where I have an office, and it's in St.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Charles, Missouri.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: And in this 90-minute workshop, I'm introducing a fresh perspective on the creative life, and we'll dive into four simple high-impact practices designed to help you write and create with purpose, consistency, and confidence.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: If you're within driving distance of St.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Louis, or if you're here in the St.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Louis area, even better, I'd love for you to attend and I would love to meet you in person.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: That would be a lot of fun.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: You can learn more and register at the link in the show notes.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: As always, thanks for listening.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
