- 0:09Speaker 1: Front just off the filter time and we are live
- 0:14Speaker 1: here at the Winter Meetings in Orlando. AJ in my backyard.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Jim Bowden with us right now, JB. Such a pleasure
- 0:20Speaker 1: to see you in person.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Yes, Scott AJ. Great to be Will you.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Look get a shirt?
- 0:24Speaker 4: Way?
- 0:24Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Look?
- 0:25Speaker 3: How look at this slang bonta by fire.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Foul territory.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It's my second favorite this.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Yeah, my favorite hoodie is my foul territory here though. Yeah,
- 0:36Speaker 2: and we see it for sure. I sport it once
- 0:37Speaker 2: in a while.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Yeah you do, you do.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Good to see you and yeah, great, see you.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Uh where should we start? In your mind? What is
- 0:44Speaker 1: the top storyline? Like you've been doing shows.
- 0:47Speaker 5: I mean, look, I think what we're looking at two
- 0:49Speaker 5: most likely guys to be traded out of the gate,
- 0:52Speaker 5: Brendan Donovan and the Cardinals Mackenzie Gore the Nats.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I'm expecting them to be the first two guys traded.
- 0:58Speaker 5: I think the other big storyline that is being talked
- 1:00Speaker 5: about enough is how much the two New York teams
- 1:03Speaker 5: are gonna do. New York Squared are gonna crush it.
- 1:06Speaker 5: We have Brian Cashman on our radio show and I'm like,
- 1:09Speaker 5: all right, so you know, what are you gonna do?
- 1:11Speaker 5: And he went through this long speel of you know,
- 1:13Speaker 5: we have Spencer Jones and Domingos and left and we
- 1:16Speaker 5: are like man at third and then it was all
- 1:19Speaker 5: said and done. He was finished, all a GM speak
- 1:21Speaker 5: and we got the reel out of him. It's like, Okay,
- 1:24Speaker 5: it's gotta be Tucker or Bellinger, you know, maybe Bashett,
- 1:28Speaker 5: maybe Bregman, maybe kateell Marte.
- 1:30Speaker 2: We're gonna get another starting pitcher.
- 1:32Speaker 5: We know we have to wait for Rodon and Cole,
- 1:34Speaker 5: and I just feel like the Yankees are just waiting
- 1:38Speaker 5: to pounce. He's not downplaying it at all publicly, and
- 1:42Speaker 5: when he doesn't downplay it publicly historically, he makes moves.
- 1:46Speaker 5: And if you're the Mets, okay, you can come out
- 1:48Speaker 5: and you can say I'm not gonna do the long
- 1:50Speaker 5: term deal with pictures. Well, look at you're not gonna
- 1:52Speaker 5: make the playoffs. If you don't start building this rotation
- 1:55Speaker 5: besides the young kids, you're not gonna be there.
- 1:57Speaker 1: You have to.
- 1:58Speaker 2: And by the way, if the lawns So leaves.
- 2:01Speaker 5: For Baltimore or Boston, he's meeting with both teams on
- 2:04Speaker 5: his right over right now to go meet with them.
- 2:06Speaker 2: If you lose them, what are you gonna do power wise?
- 2:08Speaker 2: In your lineup?
- 2:09Speaker 5: You're gonna have a three hundred and fifty million dollar
- 2:11Speaker 5: paper and finished out of the playoffs again.
- 2:13Speaker 2: So New York Squared are gonna crush it. Aj real,
- 2:16Speaker 2: They're just getting ready.
- 2:17Speaker 3: I want to hear crowds and then I'm gonna then
- 2:19Speaker 3: I'm gonna bury you.
- 2:21Speaker 4: I'll I'll just take it right to the trades. The
- 2:23Speaker 4: one trade you has Brandon Donovan. I don't think a
- 2:25Speaker 4: lot of people know much about him. How on earth
- 2:29Speaker 4: can you package Jordan Walker in anything? The guy?
- 2:33Speaker 6: Is there value for that?
- 2:34Speaker 4: And the Royals you have Chris Chris Bubach is the
- 2:38Speaker 4: one going back to the Cardinals in that trade. The
- 2:41Speaker 4: Royals can't do this again, can they? They already got
- 2:43Speaker 4: rid of Brady Singer last year and that didn't work
- 2:46Speaker 4: out well. Now they're like, oh, yeah, you know what
- 2:48Speaker 4: Jim said, we should get rid of another starting pitcher
- 2:51Speaker 4: for an outfielder who had almost a negative two war.
- 2:55Speaker 5: All right, Eric, So I love yeah, great comeback. So
- 2:58Speaker 5: I just talked to Oliver Marble. We had them on
- 3:00Speaker 5: my SFM radio show, and Oliver Marble was very very
- 3:04Speaker 5: clear in his thoughts at Jordan Walker, which are Jim,
- 3:07Speaker 5: please be patient. Because I started the question by saying,
- 3:10Speaker 5: you know, I hate being wrong on players, and I
- 3:12Speaker 5: have been wrong on Jordan Walker, so I'm like, please
- 3:16Speaker 5: tell me at some point I could be right.
- 3:17Speaker 2: He said, please be patient.
- 3:19Speaker 5: He goes, I'm telling you he's gonna be a late bloomer,
- 3:22Speaker 5: but he's gonna get there. I don't know if he
- 3:23Speaker 5: is or not, but I'm gonna still hold out hopes.
- 3:26Speaker 5: He said he's making a lot of adjustments at the
- 3:28Speaker 5: plate and he thinks he could still become a star,
- 3:31Speaker 5: So we'll see.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I mean they're monitoring him. He's doing a lot of
- 3:34Speaker 2: work this offseason. Now.
- 3:35Speaker 5: In terms of Brendan Donovan, I mean, who doesn't want
- 3:38Speaker 5: Brendan Donovan right play second, can play third and play left.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Go glove has all the make up, the character, the intangibles,
- 3:45Speaker 5: winning player, And if you're sitting there, you're hind bloom
- 3:49Speaker 5: and you're the new friggin running in the baseball ops.
- 3:52Speaker 2: He's your best trade asset. He has more value than
- 3:54Speaker 2: anybody that you have.
- 3:56Speaker 5: So of course you're gonna sit there and try to
- 3:58Speaker 5: trade him now in terms of the Royal again, I
- 4:00Speaker 5: just listened to them, right, we had Matt Cartrero was
- 4:03Speaker 5: on my show every Sunday on Serious XM, and I said,
- 4:06Speaker 5: are you gonna trade.
- 4:07Speaker 2: A starter for a corner of popular? Yes?
- 4:09Speaker 5: They need to extend their lineup. That's why they want
- 4:13Speaker 5: to do this. They need another bat. They think Kaglio
- 4:16Speaker 5: is gonna still be a star, right. They're very happy
- 4:18Speaker 5: with Carter Jensen's development. They want one more bat. And
- 4:21Speaker 5: they feel like when they made that deal with the
- 4:23Speaker 5: Padres of the deadline, they got two more starters there.
- 4:26Speaker 5: They feel like they have enough depth where they could
- 4:28Speaker 5: trade one if they could trade one of their starters
- 4:31Speaker 5: to get Jaron Duran deal get done to night, I promise.
- 4:35Speaker 3: All right, and no, I got to the two New
- 4:39Speaker 3: York Squared are going to crush it. Didn't they win
- 4:41Speaker 3: the offseason last year? Juan Soto to the Mets, Max
- 4:45Speaker 3: Free to the Yankees, Devin Williams to the Yankees. Didn't
- 4:49Speaker 3: they win the off season last year?
- 4:50Speaker 6: It was fun?
- 4:51Speaker 2: I loved it.
- 4:51Speaker 3: How to Go? I just need more how to Go?
- 4:53Speaker 6: Oh?
- 4:54Speaker 2: In the standings, I don't know.
- 4:55Speaker 5: They weren't there at the end exactly that team that
- 4:58Speaker 5: is there at the end of the Dodgers who do
- 5:01Speaker 5: a little bit better job.
- 5:02Speaker 6: But that's my thing.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Let's say that the Mets won the off season last year,
- 5:06Speaker 1: as much as you praise, Hey, that got This conversation
- 5:11Speaker 1: started last year, even really the year before when David
- 5:14Speaker 1: certain said, hey, I'm used to Milwaukee saying, you know what,
- 5:17Speaker 1: too old, too many years for this ace, too risky,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and how did that go?
- 5:23Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I didn't like, as you know, in March,
- 5:25Speaker 5: I said I don't like their starting pitching. I don't
- 5:29Speaker 5: I don't see it. And then I was wrong. After
- 5:31Speaker 5: when I got to June, I was.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Wrong, right, we're getting I was getting obliterating right. Then
- 5:36Speaker 2: we ended up being right.
- 5:38Speaker 5: Just got like Jordan Walker, you have to wait, you
- 5:41Speaker 5: have to be patient, waited out. So yeah, I mean
- 5:44Speaker 5: I think the Mets, if they have to address the
- 5:47Speaker 5: starting pitching on the line, what's move let's see.
- 5:50Speaker 3: It, what's that move? They trade for schoobl.
- 5:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think they trade for schoobl I don't
- 5:56Speaker 5: know what school was a tough trade because if you
- 5:58Speaker 5: look at who's really safe for them, unless you're putting
- 6:01Speaker 5: Nolan McClain in it. I don't think people saying that
- 6:03Speaker 5: you can put sprout and tong and get Schooble, I
- 6:05Speaker 5: don't think that's accurate. And I don't think he's gonna
- 6:08Speaker 5: trade his system for one year of Schooble. I think
- 6:11Speaker 5: I think Brian Cashman would if they came up with
- 6:14Speaker 5: the right spackage.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Jones, Yeah, he would do it for school.
- 6:17Speaker 6: Did my wrong?
- 6:18Speaker 3: Spencer Jones wasn't a top hundred prospect.
- 6:20Speaker 2: He is?
- 6:21Speaker 6: He is?
- 6:21Speaker 1: Okay, also depends on public's power speed.
- 6:23Speaker 5: But you know, he's still like every prospect, He's still
- 6:27Speaker 5: a suspect until until.
- 6:29Speaker 3: It comes out, Yes, many years ago?
- 6:31Speaker 2: Is that no doubt?
- 6:32Speaker 1: How old is he?
- 6:33Speaker 3: Twenty four?
- 6:34Speaker 2: Okay?
- 6:35Speaker 1: Prime?
- 6:36Speaker 5: Yeers are twenty five to thirty right for reason? Some
- 6:38Speaker 5: of you, well, the algorithms pretty accurate.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Wait, I want to get to the Reds, a team
- 6:44Speaker 1: that you know super well. Obviously you have to run
- 6:46Speaker 1: that front office.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Okay, so you're gonna do Schobern next. Come on, So
- 6:50Speaker 2: here's the one that I want to Here's the one
- 6:52Speaker 2: that irritates me.
- 6:52Speaker 7: A better chance of pirates are red. But here's but
- 6:56Speaker 7: here's the thing. How can the Pirates with a straight
- 7:00Speaker 7: they say, we made a four year offer for Schwarber, Like,
- 7:03Speaker 7: what are you doing? If you want Schwarmer, you think
- 7:06Speaker 7: you're gonna be able to make a market offer and
- 7:08Speaker 7: get them over the Oh, I want to go to
- 7:11Speaker 7: the Pirates over the Phillies six years, one hundred and
- 7:16Speaker 7: ninety million.
- 7:17Speaker 5: I made that offer. Okay, we'll stand up. Then you
- 7:20Speaker 5: made an offer. Don't sit there and say you made
- 7:22Speaker 5: an offer when you undercut with the Phillies. That he
- 7:24Speaker 5: don I'm on the table, Josh. Now for the Reds,
- 7:29Speaker 5: same as what they do with Naylor.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Yeah, we're signing. They're like, oh, we offered him eighty
- 7:32Speaker 3: and he got ninety two.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Whatever, what are you doing?
- 7:35Speaker 5: And by the way, Josh Naylor is going to make
- 7:37Speaker 5: less money than Trent Grisham is this year and next
- 7:41Speaker 5: year and the year after. Like, Naylor is never gonna
- 7:44Speaker 5: make what Grisham's gonna make this year. Think about that
- 7:47Speaker 5: for a.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Minute, but I like it.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Yeah you think.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you would have gotten more. Maybe you want to Yeah,
- 7:54Speaker 2: that's okay, that's fine. I mean there were no other jobs.
- 7:56Speaker 2: That's his problem. Right.
- 7:57Speaker 5: If Alonso resigned with the Mets, where are you going.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Boston wants a right ending first baseman. So and he
- 8:03Speaker 5: saw what happened to Pete last year. Yeah, he made
- 8:05Speaker 5: their he made the right call. But it should have
- 8:07Speaker 5: gotten more.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Okay, but what about the Reds? Can they I mean
- 8:10Speaker 1: they can do this?
- 8:11Speaker 2: They can. I mean they can.
- 8:12Speaker 1: You know their books from back in the day. But like,
- 8:14Speaker 1: thank you, if you stretch this out, Javy, I get it.
- 8:18Speaker 1: This team has to operate. It's such a slight margin here.
- 8:21Speaker 1: But if there's ever a time, isn't this the time?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 8:24Speaker 5: It's the person. It's that's the one person you spend
- 8:28Speaker 5: the money on. He is the guy that gets La
- 8:31Speaker 5: daa Cruz on back on the Hall of Fame track.
- 8:34Speaker 5: He is the one guy that gets to La Marte
- 8:37Speaker 5: to the next level.
- 8:38Speaker 2: He's the guy I want in that clubhouse.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Please.
- 8:41Speaker 2: I got Tino and I got Schwarmer.
- 8:44Speaker 3: That doesn't matter. I got a chance that doesn't matter.
- 8:47Speaker 3: That doesn't matter.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I agree, that's everything that that means.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Almost always I have this argument, Yeah, you're right there.
- 8:56Speaker 3: You need you need a team.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Amen.
- 8:58Speaker 3: You have a bunch of young guys. At some point
- 9:00Speaker 3: you gotta go get some veteran dudes that have done
- 9:03Speaker 3: it and can show these young guys. You can't have
- 9:05Speaker 3: twenty five young guys and say we're gonna make it. Guys,
- 9:07Speaker 3: at some point you gotta go get a dude that
- 9:09Speaker 3: shows these other younger kids how to be dudes.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Amen. And let me tell you this.
- 9:13Speaker 5: The person that's gonna walk away this winter with CJ.
- 9:16Speaker 5: Abrams is gonna win because they're gonna put them on
- 9:19Speaker 5: a team that has that Schwarber or that AJ Prazinski
- 9:23Speaker 5: that's gonna be able to keep in line. Abrams can
- 9:26Speaker 5: do whatever he wants because who in that club I
- 9:28Speaker 5: was gonna tell him, No, it's not James Wood, it's
- 9:30Speaker 5: not Dylan Cruz. So who in the world's gonna tell CJ. Hey,
- 9:33Speaker 5: let's go to bed. It's five thirty in the morning.
- 9:35Speaker 5: We got a game at one o'clock in the Yeah.
- 9:37Speaker 3: No casino. If five in the morning with one.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Who's gonna tell them?
- 9:40Speaker 1: Babies in there?
- 9:40Speaker 5: Yeah, So you gotta have veterans in there to lead
- 9:44Speaker 5: them when you're developing team. I've been there, I've witnessed it.
- 9:48Speaker 5: If you have a team of all babies, you got
- 9:50Speaker 5: zero chance.
- 9:52Speaker 2: You need. You need to be bringing veteran guys. They
- 9:55Speaker 2: don't have to be stars, but veteran guys.
- 9:57Speaker 5: That have played on championship level teams and have them
- 10:00Speaker 5: in the clubhouse to help teach those young talented guys
- 10:03Speaker 5: what it takes to prepare great Jim.
- 10:07Speaker 4: But Jim, what they're gonna say is, well, I can pay.
- 10:10Speaker 4: I'll wait till you get it in there. There you go, Yeah,
- 10:12Speaker 4: I can wait. I can pay Justin Turner that for
- 10:15Speaker 4: one year. Why are they gonna do that with Schwarber
- 10:17Speaker 4: because that's you know, you go down the league and
- 10:19Speaker 4: there's there's the standard guys who just are recycled and repeated.
- 10:22Speaker 4: To me, Kyle Schwarber is worth it. I agree with you.
- 10:26Speaker 4: But teams say, I'd rather just give you the Justin
- 10:29Speaker 4: Turner and then soon down the road it'll be the
- 10:32Speaker 4: you know Garverer, you know, just recycle the guy's name.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that doesn't work.
- 10:39Speaker 5: I mean, it's nice to have those guys as part
- 10:42Speaker 5: of the team, but in general, I want my star
- 10:45Speaker 5: players to have that kind of makeup and character. Ideally,
- 10:48Speaker 5: if I'm going to invest the money for those kind
- 10:50Speaker 5: of guys, I need that.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Now. I'm not saying you.
- 10:53Speaker 5: Have to have that I'll take Kyle Tucker on Aaron
- 10:56Speaker 5: Judge's team. I'll take Kyle Tucker on Mookie Betts's team.
- 11:00Speaker 5: But I don't want Kyle Tucker to be that leader.
- 11:02Speaker 5: I want Kyle Schwarber to be that leader. Tucker doesn't
- 11:05Speaker 5: do for the Reds Clubhouse what Kyle Schwarber would do
- 11:08Speaker 5: for the Reds Clubhouse, if that makes sense?
- 11:11Speaker 6: Agreed?
- 11:12Speaker 4: Is there any way of knowing how much more that
- 11:15Speaker 4: is gonna get Kyle Schwarber? Like as far as like
- 11:18Speaker 4: on paper, Kyle Schwarber's worth you know, three four years,
- 11:22Speaker 4: one and twenty million, anything over that or anything over
- 11:26Speaker 4: that number that physically his baseball is worth. Is that
- 11:30Speaker 4: what his clubhouse presence is worth?
- 11:32Speaker 2: Five million a year for two extra years, that's my
- 11:36Speaker 2: value on it.
- 11:38Speaker 5: Wow, give me all the numbers you want. I'm gonna
- 11:40Speaker 5: tear it up. I'm gonna overpay. I'm gonna let the
- 11:43Speaker 5: Commission's office call me and be pissed at me. I'm
- 11:45Speaker 5: gonna give him two extra years and I'm gonna get
- 11:47Speaker 5: the player. I'll tell you a little story I'll never forget.
- 11:49Speaker 5: This is when the Tigers signed Magli Ordoniez and Pud Rodriguez, Yeah,
- 11:55Speaker 5: two and four, and they overpaid both of them by
- 11:58Speaker 5: a lot of money. And it was really irritating for
- 12:01Speaker 5: those of us running small market teams, like you just
- 12:03Speaker 5: screwed up the whole marketplace. So I was with Jim Leeland,
- 12:07Speaker 5: I'll never forget, and I said, Jim, you guys way
- 12:09Speaker 5: overpaid for these guys.
- 12:11Speaker 2: And Jim took out a cigarette, he lit it and
- 12:13Speaker 2: he goes, yeah, but we got the players and you didn't.
- 12:15Speaker 2: And he walked away, and you know what, he was
- 12:18Speaker 2: so serious.
- 12:20Speaker 5: Yeah, that's where they went to and why because they
- 12:24Speaker 5: got the players.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Because they spent too much money and they spent too
- 12:27Speaker 2: many years. So sign me up, baby, exactly.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Have you got an owner that'll spend it. That's why
- 12:32Speaker 3: it's easy for us to do this job. Jim, Yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 3: aint my money.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's so much easier. I love it.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Money spend this world.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Oh I'm ready for this.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I got my next one for you in terms of
- 12:42Speaker 1: spending money. So JP put a great wish list article
- 12:45Speaker 1: out there, predictions and wishes right, not like everything is
- 12:49Speaker 1: direct intel here, okay, but framber Valdez, you put seven
- 12:53Speaker 1: years to eighteen to the Mets, tell me if you
- 12:57Speaker 1: would sign Framberg for that kind of money. You know,
- 12:59Speaker 1: base on the one incident. And also I did cover
- 13:02Speaker 1: Fember a lot with the Astros. He'll be fine going forward.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Here's my concern he always was. I think you get
- 13:09Speaker 1: rattled pretty quickly and then get off kilter. Is New
- 13:12Speaker 1: York the right place for him?
- 13:14Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 13:14Speaker 5: So so my opinion on him is left handed, tremendous
- 13:20Speaker 5: ground ball rate. Not concerned about the hard hit rate
- 13:23Speaker 5: because the hard hit is usually on the ground. As
- 13:25Speaker 5: long as I have elite defense, if I can have
- 13:28Speaker 5: Lidnort short and say simmy in a second, you know,
- 13:32Speaker 5: And I'm really focusing on the defense behind him.
- 13:35Speaker 2: He pitches in big games. He's durable, He's got the frame.
- 13:40Speaker 2: He should age well, being left handed and being the
- 13:44Speaker 2: size in the frame. And I'm sorry about that incident
- 13:49Speaker 2: with the catcher. I hate it.
- 13:50Speaker 5: I want to punch him in the face for it.
- 13:52Speaker 5: But what's the other incidences over the years when we've
- 13:56Speaker 5: been covering them in the playoffs, Like, I don't have
- 13:59Speaker 5: other incidentss And I always wanted him on the mound
- 14:02Speaker 5: for me. Is it an overpay?
- 14:04Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 14:04Speaker 5: I don't like that contract. I don't like ceas, but
- 14:06Speaker 5: it's the price of doing business. I didn't go out
- 14:08Speaker 5: there and see a house I like. That was four
- 14:11Speaker 5: million dollars two years ago, it's now twelve.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:15Speaker 5: I can't afford it, but that's the price. If I wanted,
- 14:17Speaker 5: I have to pay it. So let's start worrying about
- 14:20Speaker 5: the price of business. We've set the price. It's not
- 14:23Speaker 5: going down. It never does. Accept it and move on.
- 14:26Speaker 5: They must have the money or the pay the payrolls
- 14:29Speaker 5: wouldn't get to this point if they weren't making the money.
- 14:31Speaker 2: It's there.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Agreed, Agreed. I fight that fight all the time.
- 14:35Speaker 8: You got the last time before we let you go. Yeah,
- 14:37Speaker 8: there was a vote last night. Okay, you know what
- 14:39Speaker 8: it was of fame. Yes, Jeff can't kitts in. I
- 14:43Speaker 8: thought he should have been in a long time. Yes,
- 14:45Speaker 8: your thoughts on the other guys.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Bonds Clemens, Yeah, so I I popular.
- 14:54Speaker 5: So I wrote this on the Athletic in that same
- 14:56Speaker 5: article you're talking about the wish list, of which I
- 14:58Speaker 5: said Jeff Kent would be the only one that can.
- 15:00Speaker 5: It's in I wrote that. No, I did not they
- 15:03Speaker 5: I had no idea how they're going to vote. But
- 15:04Speaker 5: I know the committee, I know the group, and I
- 15:07Speaker 5: know the thought process, and I thought he'd be the
- 15:09Speaker 5: only one for those reasons.
- 15:10Speaker 2: I just speculated. But you've got to see my personal opinion.
- 15:14Speaker 5: Barry Bonds is the best player I ever saw in
- 15:16Speaker 5: baseball until shoey Otani Kan. Roger Clemens is one of
- 15:19Speaker 5: the best pitchers I ever saw in my life. Gary
- 15:21Speaker 5: Sheffield was one of the best clutch hitters and best
- 15:23Speaker 5: bat speed I ever saw in my life, without a doubt,
- 15:26Speaker 5: and all three should be in the Hall of Fame.
- 15:28Speaker 5: For me, with all of the baggage around them, I
- 15:31Speaker 5: have no problem any allegations, any positive tests, any balco investigations,
- 15:36Speaker 5: any MLB investigator. Throw it all in Cooperstown with them.
- 15:40Speaker 5: I think it's a museum. I think we should be
- 15:43Speaker 5: celebrating the best players in the game. And I feel
- 15:46Speaker 5: like those three guys, of all of them, including Kent,
- 15:49Speaker 5: were the three that deserved to be in the most
- 15:52Speaker 5: because of what they did on the field. Now what
- 15:54Speaker 5: they did off the field, I don't like it. I
- 15:56Speaker 5: don't like anyone that cheated. But I will tell you this,
- 15:59Speaker 5: and I mean sincerely, and I'm never going to give names.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Two guys are in the Hall of Fame that used
- 16:04Speaker 5: and that's okay because they weren't caught.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Is that fair?
- 16:08Speaker 3: This is my argument that I had with Scott and
- 16:09Speaker 3: I want I want your take on it. So the
- 16:11Speaker 3: players that are on this committee, there was what seven
- 16:14Speaker 3: and I know and I respect the hell out of
- 16:15Speaker 3: trammel Tony Perez, Jim Cott. They're all awesome, right, Robin
- 16:19Speaker 3: Yell all these got one marrion. They're unbelievable players, unbelievable people,
- 16:23Speaker 3: all good. I know them all and talk to them all.
- 16:24Speaker 3: They're awesome. If they didn't vote for those guys that
- 16:28Speaker 3: you just named, okay because of the ped's accusations, then
- 16:33Speaker 3: I say, did every one of you not ever take
- 16:36Speaker 3: a greenie? Because greenees? The argument is, oh, they weren't allowed.
- 16:39Speaker 3: They weren't allowed, but they were legal. Greenies are were
- 16:42Speaker 3: legal and now they're banned. So if you took a greenie,
- 16:45Speaker 3: aren't you the same as one of these other guys.
- 16:49Speaker 2: In terms of I'm just a breaking the rule.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Yes, But but you get suspended for taking a greenie?
- 16:55Speaker 2: Now, yeah, that's true.
- 16:57Speaker 3: I don't know that's that's just different.
- 16:59Speaker 2: But I'm not agreeing with them.
- 17:01Speaker 5: I'm not I'm not disagreeing. I'm not agreeing. I'm not
- 17:04Speaker 5: disagreeing because you hit.
- 17:05Speaker 3: But it's it's not it's not apples to apples, but
- 17:08Speaker 3: it's similar.
- 17:09Speaker 5: The problem that I have is I was a GM
- 17:11Speaker 5: during that period and everybody looked the other way. It
- 17:14Speaker 5: wasn't just owners GMS, it was players, it was coaches,
- 17:18Speaker 5: it was media, the commissioner.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Everybody was looking the other way.
- 17:24Speaker 5: I don't know who didn't, but I do know changes
- 17:28Speaker 5: that they all had. I have every team has a
- 17:31Speaker 5: print out of changes and body fat and weight and
- 17:35Speaker 5: hat size by the way.
- 17:37Speaker 2: They all have it, but no everybody wanted to ignore it.
- 17:40Speaker 5: And yet some of them get to the Hall of
- 17:42Speaker 5: Fame because they weren't caught, and some of them don't
- 17:46Speaker 5: because they were caught, and some of them don't because
- 17:48Speaker 5: they worked out with someone who gave them something that
- 17:53Speaker 5: I just don't like it. I think it's screwed an
- 17:56Speaker 5: entire era of star players, and I'm not sure that's
- 18:00Speaker 5: that's how we should handle it.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Right. So your line is, once we formalized it a
- 18:06Speaker 1: little bit more, then we all were on I don't
- 18:09Speaker 1: want to say the same playing field, but you get tested,
- 18:12Speaker 1: you get suspended if there's a problem, right like the
- 18:15Speaker 1: a rod Manny Ramirez kind of.
- 18:18Speaker 3: World for me as a player, and I played in
- 18:20Speaker 3: all this, I played. Yeah, I was there and I
- 18:23Speaker 3: came in ninety eight, so I played through all of it.
- 18:25Speaker 3: I draw the line as a player, whatever you did
- 18:28Speaker 3: before two thousand and five when they started testing, I
- 18:31Speaker 3: don't know whatever it is. I don't know the answer.
- 18:33Speaker 3: If you get caught after two thousand and five, yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 3: then you're out. Oh then you're not because you're out
- 18:37Speaker 3: because you're blatantly cheated.
- 18:38Speaker 2: You knew, you knew, and you did it anyway.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Yeah, So to me, they're out.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Then there's not even a discussion at that point.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.
- 18:49Speaker 3: But you cheated, and you know you you blatantly.
- 18:51Speaker 6: Cheated and knew it.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Yes, so to me that that's But the other thing,
- 18:55Speaker 3: before two thousand and five, we don't know what guys
- 18:58Speaker 3: were doing. That's the idea we think, we don't really know.
- 19:00Speaker 3: You don't know, so to me, those guys should be in.
- 19:04Speaker 3: But anyways, I.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Agree, it's it's never it's a hard issue to agree on.
- 19:08Speaker 5: So it's interesting we agree because most people won't agree
- 19:11Speaker 5: with that vantage.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys are on the same page there, and
- 19:14Speaker 1: and he's fired up today about it because of the results.
- 19:17Speaker 1: But it is what it is.
- 19:18Speaker 5: I just have a hard time explaining to my children
- 19:21Speaker 5: Barry Bonds is not in the Hall of Fame.
- 19:24Speaker 2: I have a hard time with that.
- 19:26Speaker 4: I saw.
- 19:26Speaker 3: It's not even close, not even close.
- 19:28Speaker 5: And whether he did or when he did or when
- 19:32Speaker 5: he started to would have nothing to do with him
- 19:33Speaker 5: getting into the Hall of Fame.
- 19:35Speaker 1: But you could explain a rod right because hey, he
- 19:38Speaker 1: tested or he got caught, right, he did.
- 19:40Speaker 3: It his whole career, he said he started in two
- 19:42Speaker 3: thousand ish, in his whole career.
- 19:45Speaker 2: He's done.
- 19:46Speaker 5: Yeah, he did an he lied, he did it, he lied,
- 19:48Speaker 5: he lied, he did it. His track record is so
- 19:51Speaker 5: clear and concise that you don't even have to think
- 19:53Speaker 5: about his situation.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Right, that's a different story. Jbre the Man. Fancy new
- 20:06Speaker 1: animation for our first guest here joining us during Sweet Life.
- 20:10Speaker 1: It is Paul Timoni, who is the president of Baseball Operations.
- 20:14Speaker 1: You got us here, but you can hear us here. Paul.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Great to have you on here. Congratulations on the gig,
- 20:19Speaker 1: and we're excited to talk to you about what life
- 20:22Speaker 1: is like and what is it like over the last
- 20:24Speaker 1: few weeks for you.
- 20:25Speaker 6: Yeah, right on, No, I appreciate you guys had me
- 20:26Speaker 6: on what so well?
- 20:28Speaker 3: Hold on first of all, cratch, no quarters up for
- 20:33Speaker 3: the front office, no look jacket, fancy shirt. It's amazing,
- 20:39Speaker 3: it's amazing. It's the best. So much better of an.
- 20:42Speaker 9: Helping about coming in with like cut off or like
- 20:44Speaker 9: tank top or something.
- 20:45Speaker 3: But hey, did that he and did that in spring
- 20:48Speaker 3: train memory came home with a T shirt and the bucket.
- 20:50Speaker 6: At the.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Eric you don't need the hat. He's like, I never know, son, Yeah,
- 20:56Speaker 3: he's sitting in his dark room with his big hat.
- 20:58Speaker 3: So anyways, we appreciate.
- 20:59Speaker 6: You dressing absolutely Yeah, only you guys.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Hey, So, I mean you've been around front office leaders,
- 21:07Speaker 1: right with with Boston all that. Once you're actually in
- 21:09Speaker 1: the seat. What has been the most surprising thing for
- 21:13Speaker 1: you thus far?
- 21:15Speaker 9: I think the biggest thing honestly has just been, uh,
- 21:17Speaker 9: you know, I'm stepping into a new organization. I don't
- 21:19Speaker 9: I didn't really know a ton of people in the
- 21:22Speaker 9: new organization, right, So former relationships with everyone in the
- 21:26Speaker 9: building and as it relates to the actual responsibilities of
- 21:29Speaker 9: the job. Like, it's crazy to say, but nothing has
- 21:32Speaker 9: really felt all that much different, you know what I mean?
- 21:35Speaker 6: I guess more.
- 21:36Speaker 9: Interaction with ownership group with the Nationals than maybe I
- 21:39Speaker 9: had with Boston, which isn't necessarily a small thing. More
- 21:42Speaker 9: more media, but uh, but those those are the big things.
- 21:46Speaker 9: All the all the other baseball specific stuff, like, isn't
- 21:48Speaker 9: all that different at least for me?
- 21:50Speaker 3: How long does it take you to learn an organization
- 21:52Speaker 3: because you came from Boston? Does that mean you and
- 21:55Speaker 3: Bres are gonna get on the phone and like Mackenzie
- 21:56Speaker 3: Gore to the Red Sox because you know, all the
- 21:59Speaker 3: prospects wrap back. So how long does it take you
- 22:01Speaker 3: to learn your own organization? Before you call Breas and
- 22:04Speaker 3: say Breas, listen, man, I got Mackenzie Gore. He'd look
- 22:07Speaker 3: great pitching in Fenway. I'll take ABC and D.
- 22:10Speaker 9: So I think, uh, I mean to your first question,
- 22:13Speaker 9: learning a new organization, like all the staff members all that,
- 22:17Speaker 9: that takes a lot of time.
- 22:17Speaker 6: Its probably gonna take a year or two, you know.
- 22:19Speaker 9: I think it's probably gonna take a year to meet
- 22:21Speaker 9: everyone and in person, right, but then probably two years
- 22:25Speaker 9: to actually like have folks be comfortable around me and
- 22:28Speaker 9: just you know, you know, it is former relationships, like
- 22:31Speaker 9: you're on a team and uh, probably not for a year,
- 22:33Speaker 9: eighteen months, two years for you to feel really good
- 22:35Speaker 9: around people. So so yeah, it's gonna take some time,
- 22:39Speaker 9: but looking forward to it. And I was I was
- 22:41Speaker 9: in Boston for upwards of ten years, and so those
- 22:44Speaker 9: relationships are really tight, you know what I mean.
- 22:46Speaker 6: So leaving there was tough, but it'll happen over time here.
- 22:50Speaker 4: All right, Well, you brought in can you can you
- 22:52Speaker 4: hear me? Okay, Paul, Yeah, I got you. Okay, you
- 22:55Speaker 4: brought in, you brought in a whole new staff, and
- 22:58Speaker 4: you talk about getting to know people. How do you
- 23:01Speaker 4: say to okay, another team or even one of the players,
- 23:06Speaker 4: because it was in the news that you talked to
- 23:08Speaker 4: Gore about possibly being traded. You don't know him. The
- 23:12Speaker 4: people that coached him last year in the big leagues
- 23:15Speaker 4: don't don't know him because they're on another organization. How
- 23:19Speaker 4: do you make that decision other than up here's my list.
- 23:22Speaker 3: I have c J.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Abrams, I have Mackenzie Gore. How do you make those
- 23:26Speaker 4: decisions when you just said nobody really knows me and
- 23:30Speaker 4: I don't really know them. It takes maybe a year
- 23:32Speaker 4: and a half, two years.
- 23:34Speaker 9: Yeah, it's challenging, right, Like, I think part of it
- 23:37Speaker 9: is like you can do everything in your power to
- 23:38Speaker 9: try and get to know these guys during this period, right,
- 23:41Speaker 9: But then I think you got to lean on people
- 23:45Speaker 9: that you do know, that know these players well.
- 23:48Speaker 6: Right. And obviously I'm not even really talking about.
- 23:50Speaker 9: The baseball side of it, which is a huge part
- 23:52Speaker 9: about it, but make up such a big part of it,
- 23:54Speaker 9: and you probably know better than anyone, right, So making
- 23:57Speaker 9: sure that we know, you know what drive these guys
- 24:00Speaker 9: and what kind of character they have, like, that's huge,
- 24:02Speaker 9: and so uh, lean on folks that know them well.
- 24:04Speaker 6: I think I think that's probably the key thing.
- 24:07Speaker 3: It's got to be hard. It's got to be because
- 24:10Speaker 3: you're you're coming over and you basically have a whole
- 24:13Speaker 3: new toy like a whole new toy chest, and you're like, oh,
- 24:16Speaker 3: this guy was pretty good, this guy looked pretty good.
- 24:19Speaker 3: We played against this guy. He seemed pretty good. But
- 24:21Speaker 3: then I can get something for the future, right, So
- 24:24Speaker 3: how hard is it to balance that of saying, just
- 24:27Speaker 3: start everything over. And you've done that with the coaching staff,
- 24:30Speaker 3: and you've done that with obviously you coming in, But
- 24:32Speaker 3: how hard is it with the players because you can't
- 24:34Speaker 3: trade everybody and completely start over, right, So how do
- 24:37Speaker 3: you where's the line that you draw on that? Because
- 24:39Speaker 3: again you don't know these guys?
- 24:41Speaker 9: Yeah, I think like that's a that's a tough one
- 24:44Speaker 9: to answer, you know what I mean? I think like, really,
- 24:45Speaker 9: what it comes down to is each individual player, and like, hey,
- 24:49Speaker 9: what do we think about what do we think about
- 24:52Speaker 9: this guy's impact.
- 24:52Speaker 6: On our twenty twenty sixteen and beyond?
- 24:54Speaker 3: Right, Well, then maybe the question is, yeah, how far
- 24:56Speaker 3: in advance you look?
- 24:57Speaker 6: Right?
- 24:58Speaker 3: Twenty twenty six is what it's going to. But are
- 25:00Speaker 3: you looking? Because I always make a joke in here
- 25:02Speaker 3: that if I was a GM, I just keep telling
- 25:04Speaker 3: the owner, I'm gonna rebuild how we didn't make it,
- 25:06Speaker 3: give me five more years to get my players, to
- 25:08Speaker 3: get my players in in all that stuff, right, So
- 25:11Speaker 3: how far ahead you as an organization? I've never asked
- 25:13Speaker 3: a GM president guy, how far ahead do you look?
- 25:17Speaker 3: Because I know everyone wants to win the year they're in,
- 25:19Speaker 3: But how far ahead? Are you looking down the road?
- 25:21Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean I think like even if you know,
- 25:24Speaker 9: I was working as part of the an organization that
- 25:27Speaker 9: had one of the best records in baseball last year,
- 25:29Speaker 9: right Like, I think it's uh, it's smart to be looking,
- 25:32Speaker 9: you know, years ahead, but I think it's a little
- 25:34Speaker 9: bit dangerous to be looking too far ahead as well. Right, Like, Hey,
- 25:37Speaker 9: let's lock in on like how good we're going to
- 25:39Speaker 9: be these next couple of years, and and then be
- 25:42Speaker 9: willing to update our beliefs when we go out next
- 25:45Speaker 9: year and hopefully we surprise some people and uh, you know,
- 25:48Speaker 9: we're set to win a higher number of games going
- 25:50Speaker 9: into twenty twenty seven. Like let's uh, let's be willing
- 25:52Speaker 9: to I say it, like, we can be pretty rigid
- 25:55Speaker 9: on our vision but flexible in the details of achieving it.
- 25:58Speaker 1: So well, let's get to one deal that actually happened.
- 26:03Speaker 1: And this was a cool one for me. I've met
- 26:05Speaker 1: Harry Ford, I've watched him, and he gets picked up
- 26:09Speaker 1: by your side, Jose Ferrere going back the other way,
- 26:11Speaker 1: just playing to the point here. It's not like you're
- 26:13Speaker 1: gonna say, you know this guy to a t talking
- 26:15Speaker 1: about Frere but I'm sure even with Boston, you guys
- 26:19Speaker 1: had scouting analysis and you know who Harry Ford is.
- 26:22Speaker 1: And by the way, I think you're his favorite player.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I love Harry.
- 26:26Speaker 1: He's like, can I FaceTime ag?
- 26:29Speaker 3: So I'm like, I got Then I did the playoffs
- 26:32Speaker 3: and he was on the playoff roster and I told
- 26:34Speaker 3: him like, hey man, you're probably not gonna get to play,
- 26:36Speaker 3: but you know, soak it all in and you might
- 26:38Speaker 3: get traded. And then way am I I wake up
- 26:40Speaker 3: and I'm like, oh, Harry Ford got traded. So I'll
- 26:42Speaker 3: let you answer, and then I have a question.
- 26:44Speaker 9: Yeah, maybe maybe this is a good example of what
- 26:46Speaker 9: you guys were talking about earlier. Like, so he was
- 26:48Speaker 9: part of the twenty twenty one draft when I was
- 26:50Speaker 9: with the Red Sox were we were picking forth was
- 26:53Speaker 9: the year we took Marcelo, And I think part of
- 26:55Speaker 9: this was Harry was was part of our mix. So
- 26:58Speaker 9: we spent a lot of time getting snow Harry as
- 27:01Speaker 9: a as a person and understanding the makeup there.
- 27:04Speaker 6: Felt great about it, like probably.
- 27:06Speaker 9: The same things you're seeing AJ Like we saw just
- 27:08Speaker 9: stud kid and and then you know, we followed him
- 27:11Speaker 9: along the way and uh, he's been fun to follow,
- 27:14Speaker 9: like he's uh, he's pretty unique, man, Like he's a
- 27:18Speaker 9: stud athlete at that position, Like that's those guys are
- 27:21Speaker 9: pretty tough to find. And uh, and I think I
- 27:24Speaker 9: mean people forget because he's been in minor league baseball
- 27:26Speaker 9: for whatever it's been four years. Like he's still really young.
- 27:28Speaker 9: He's twenty two years old. So I think he's still
- 27:30Speaker 9: got a lot that he can improve. I think Harry
- 27:32Speaker 9: will tell you that. And uh, when he does start
- 27:35Speaker 9: chipping away at some of those things, like, uh, watch out,
- 27:37Speaker 9: because I think I think we might have something special.
- 27:39Speaker 3: What do you do with Ruiz? So you have four
- 27:42Speaker 3: you just trade it for yeah, and you have a
- 27:44Speaker 3: catcher that's signed in Cabert Ruiz. So how do you
- 27:47Speaker 3: make the decision on who plays and who you know
- 27:49Speaker 3: playing times at a Is it a spring training fight
- 27:52Speaker 3: or is that something when you make the trade for Ford,
- 27:54Speaker 3: you say, hey, we're gonna need him to play and
- 27:56Speaker 3: we'll look to maybe move Ruise somewhere else.
- 27:58Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 27:58Speaker 9: Uh. Keybrad was one of the first people I called
- 28:00Speaker 9: after the trade, and like I said, nothing changes, man,
- 28:03Speaker 9: Like we we want to create a really competitive environment
- 28:06Speaker 9: for for not just you guys, but Drew and Riley
- 28:08Speaker 9: and the others to to compete and then uh man,
- 28:11Speaker 9: we're gonna go with the best guys, you know what
- 28:12Speaker 9: I mean? But that should uh man, we want to
- 28:14Speaker 9: be we want to have players on our team that
- 28:16Speaker 9: are that are embracing that challenge and willing to run
- 28:19Speaker 9: towards it, not shine away from it. And I think
- 28:20Speaker 9: Keybard is that type of dude. And Harry's the same way,
- 28:23Speaker 9: Drew's the same way, Riley's the same way. So uh,
- 28:26Speaker 9: we're a sembling a fun group and uh, like I said,
- 28:28Speaker 9: we're gonna see who who the best guy is coming
- 28:30Speaker 9: out of it, and uh and see that, you know,
- 28:33Speaker 9: have the chips fall where they met.
- 28:34Speaker 3: He's got the GM speak down, doesn't he I don't.
- 28:37Speaker 3: I know, I love it.
- 28:40Speaker 6: I didn't hear what he said.
- 28:40Speaker 3: You know, if you have some of the GM speak down,
- 28:43Speaker 3: love because you're giving us enough to where it's like, oh,
- 28:46Speaker 3: I have a follow up, But then you also kind
- 28:48Speaker 3: of aren't giving us enough to where I'm like, well,
- 28:50Speaker 3: I do have a follow up, But we.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Like to judge the GYM streak. I don't think it's
- 28:54Speaker 1: like he's goods good yeah, right.
- 28:58Speaker 3: A newer, newer person. So here's so then you worked
- 29:02Speaker 3: for him, Yeah, and then you work for Bres.
- 29:05Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 29:05Speaker 3: Were you there before him?
- 29:06Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 29:06Speaker 3: Were you with Charrington?
- 29:08Speaker 6: Charrington?
- 29:08Speaker 3: Dave influenced your I'll throw out because you weren't there
- 29:14Speaker 3: for a year with Bres.
- 29:15Speaker 6: A couple of years, A couple of years.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Okay, I played with Bres. So that's how old I am.
- 29:20Speaker 3: But which one of those guys influenced your your style
- 29:26Speaker 3: the most?
- 29:26Speaker 4: Right?
- 29:26Speaker 3: Because Dave's like more the gambler, I'm gonna throw all
- 29:29Speaker 3: my chips in high and build the organization. Bres is
- 29:31Speaker 3: newer at it. Charrington released me, so he doesn't count.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yeah right, So you know what I'm saying, Like which
- 29:38Speaker 3: one would Are you more of the gambler like Dave?
- 29:40Speaker 3: Or are you more like let's build this long term
- 29:42Speaker 3: like him would be?
- 29:42Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 29:43Speaker 9: I think I probably take different This isn't meant to
- 29:46Speaker 9: be GM speak, man, I I probably selfishly take different
- 29:50Speaker 9: pieces of all of them, Like I uh, I mean
- 29:53Speaker 9: dating back years, like overseeing the draft there to me
- 29:56Speaker 9: like risk doesn't really like get my heart rate going,
- 30:00Speaker 9: and when you're taking a player training for a player
- 30:02Speaker 9: or whatever, and I maybe I, I don't know, subconsciously
- 30:05Speaker 9: pulled that from Dave, right, But then also, like I
- 30:08Speaker 9: think about him and how how intentional he was with
- 30:11Speaker 9: his decision making. I'm never gonna be as smart as
- 30:15Speaker 9: him was, but there is, but I think I can
- 30:18Speaker 9: be prepared like he was and in breds the same
- 30:20Speaker 9: way and then the same way too. Like I will
- 30:22Speaker 9: say that the key difference was when I was working
- 30:25Speaker 9: under Ben and to a lesser extent Dave, I was
- 30:27Speaker 9: still pretty.
- 30:27Speaker 6: Junior, you know.
- 30:28Speaker 9: The more I rose up through the front office, I
- 30:32Speaker 9: worked closer with with him than with Brez and gained
- 30:34Speaker 9: a really good understanding of how they see things, which
- 30:36Speaker 9: was which was good for me to see up close.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Last one, because the players are being talked about a lot, Mackenzie,
- 30:42Speaker 1: Gore and C. J. Abrams. I'm not going to ask
- 30:44Speaker 1: you like, hey, what's gonna happen, but like, have you
- 30:46Speaker 1: spoken to those guys when when their names circulate and
- 30:48Speaker 1: you're new, do you speak to them? Real quick?
- 30:50Speaker 6: Yeah? Well, first of all, I didn't.
- 30:52Speaker 9: I didn't see the cg Abram stuff until today, and
- 30:54Speaker 9: so I didn't think that was the thing, and so
- 30:57Speaker 9: I haven't talked to CD about this, Like CJ and
- 30:59Speaker 9: I have been talking.
- 31:00Speaker 6: I chatted with them live the other day.
- 31:02Speaker 9: Mackenzie was different because I saw this stuff coming up
- 31:04Speaker 9: with Mackenzie and I'm like, man, I'm gonna call him
- 31:07Speaker 9: just because if I put myself in Mackenzie, she was like,
- 31:09Speaker 9: I'm probably wanting to hear if this is real or
- 31:11Speaker 9: not right, or if it's if it's BS and so
- 31:15Speaker 9: and more than that, man, I'd like I said it
- 31:17Speaker 9: the other day, like one of the most gratifying parts
- 31:19Speaker 9: of this job for me is building relationships with staff
- 31:22Speaker 9: and players.
- 31:23Speaker 6: So to me, it's like I'd already talked with Mackenzie.
- 31:25Speaker 9: I was just calling again to check in and say like, hey,
- 31:27Speaker 9: by the way, like you're gonna see this and uh,
- 31:30Speaker 9: and this is how I think through it, and if
- 31:32Speaker 9: you have any questions, hit me up whenever you want.
- 31:33Speaker 6: So That's how I'd approach it with anyone.
- 31:35Speaker 9: At the same time, I'm not sure it's the best
- 31:38Speaker 9: thing to set a standard where like every single time
- 31:40Speaker 9: someone's name pups into the media or I'm giving them
- 31:42Speaker 9: a call and update and or not.
- 31:44Speaker 6: Yeah, so try and bounce those two things.
- 31:46Speaker 9: But but so much of this in My opinion comes
- 31:50Speaker 9: back down to relationships, and if you have great ones,
- 31:52Speaker 9: they trust what you're telling them, and you want to
- 31:54Speaker 9: keep them informed, but probably don't want to over communicate.
- 31:56Speaker 1: To Sure, I like that. I know you would appreciate
- 31:59Speaker 1: that at that happen that Paul really appreciate the time.
- 32:01Speaker 1: It's great, very nice to me.
- 32:02Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, great, mean you guys but the best. Yes,
- 32:04Speaker 6: that's good
- 32:09Speaker 9: M hm
