Transcript
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: We traded our cleats for clipboards, but we never left the game.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to Cleats and Clipboards, your front row seat to Pennsylvania High School football, brought to you by Sportswire.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: We are a quarter of way through the season, Coach Wanitz.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: The unbeatons are down to a previous to a precious few, and the rankings just got shaken up this week.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Can't wait for that tonight.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: We will react to week three, roll out the sportswire rankings, and preview a huge week four across District 2.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: So, Coach, welcome back.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Welcome or thank you to our listeners who are here.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: It's our weekly show.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Wednesday nights at 9.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: We're finally settling into this 9 p.m.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: slot.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Coach Hoanitz and producer Brad have been patient with me as my schedules fluctuate a little bit.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: But Wednesday nights at 9, part of the Sportswire family, we will be here.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: For our listeners that are new, I'm Coach Lamania, Lakeland grad, former wide receiver, uh player coach for the old Scranton Eagles, coached at Lackawanna College, Minor League Football News Hall of Fame, and now coaching at Abington Heights.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: And then my partner in crime, Coach George Hoanitz, defensive, former defensive back, Valley View grad and former head coach, NEPA Sports Hall of Fame, and still grinding as the head coach at Honesdale.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Two former players, now both coaches, on the same side of the microphone.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Coach Hoannitz, as I mentioned, we're a quarter of way through the season as we approach this week.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: How are you doing a quarter of way through the season?
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Good, buddy.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: We're surviving.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, you're uh you're week four already out of 10.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Uh hopefully you can, you know, make a move now, get yourself ready to get into the playoff picture.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: And I think a lot of teams are starting to jockey around a little bit.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: You're starting to see the cream kind of rising to the top now.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: We're we're starting to find out a little more about certain teams.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: And uh I think when we talk about our rankings, we'll we'll talk about some of that more in there.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Can't wait, coach.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Well said there.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Quarter the way through.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: We're keeping ourselves fresh here tonight on cleats and clipboards.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: But first, before we recap last week, tonight's show is brought to you by Kleinbauer Mechanical, coach.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: If your boiler is on its last legs heading into winter, now is the time to move.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: As a homeowner, that's the worst feeling in the world.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: As we know, those cold winters here in Northeast PA is your boiler going down.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: So now through September 30th, Kleinbauer Mechanical is taking$500 off any qualifying new natural gas or propane boiler.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: And for qualifying UGI customers, there may be an additional$1,500 in UGI rebates.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Klein Bauer will take you through that.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: That means eligible homeowners could save as much as$2,000 replacing an aging boiler before the cold hits, and even applies if you are looking to switch your home off propane or oil.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: So call 570-357-7226.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Again, 570-357-7226 and message Kleinbauer Mechanical or message Kleinbauer Mechanical on Facebook to schedule your free estimate.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Beat the cold with Kleinbauer Mechanical.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: So, coach, with that, we're gonna shift from Kleinbauer Mechanical.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Thank you for sponsoring us and our athlete of the week.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Now, our athlete of the week is powered by Hydro Baths because every great performance earns a great recovery.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: And listeners, you may want to be commenting right now.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: You know how this works, this portion of the show.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: This week goes to man, I'm gonna get a little drum roll there.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: It's coming home to my Chiefs, coach.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: It goes to Lakeland's Jackson Potius, who did it all in the win over Lackawanna Trail.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Five touchdowns, three different ways, plus 12 tackles and an interception on defense.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Very impressive.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Uh Coach, man, what's your think before we draw a Hydro Bats winner for this week?
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: What do you think about the Hydra Bats athlete of the week there?
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Jackson Potius.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Well, we talked about this early in the year when their quarterback went down.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: And I uh remember saying to you, I mean, he has a lot of athletes there at Lakeland, uh, you know, that he can put into spots.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna guess uh that coach didn't even think this was gonna go as as well as it's been going for him.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: So he's getting uh, you know, he takes out a kid who's you know probably would have been one of the better quarterbacks in in all of District 2 uh and inserts a receiver into that uh position and he's been just lighting it up.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: I mean he's every week uh 100 yards rushing, over 100 yards passing, multiple touchdowns.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, he's been in the mix for this player of the week probably since week one.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: So he's uh you know, he's more than capable of winning this award the rest of the year, too, with the way he's playing.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: So if I'm Lakeland, I'm happy, but you know, the future's bright to have uh athlete upon athlete, and there'll be a you know tough out when the playoffs go.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Agreed.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: And and producer Brad, as I look at this graphic up here, Jackson might be a future winner of the drip of the week.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: We'll get to that later on, but he he is rocking the Chiefs swag there.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Jackson, if you're listening to your family, you're making me proud.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Go, Chiefs.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, our Bath Salts winner of the week.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Now, listeners, you know, you you got to get in that chat.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: I know you're there, but if you get in the chat, not only will Jackson be recovering with the Bath Salts, but so will you.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: So we got two listeners in the chat now, but one of them won the contest last week.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: So this week's winner, even though he's shouting out for those value cougars who we'll talk about a little later, Jesse Joe Walter, appreciate you listening.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: You're gonna be this week's Hydra Bath Bath Salts.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Lucky listener there, congratulations.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: And with that, coach, we are gonna go into a recap of week three results.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: I've got this broken down into a few categories here.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Um, starting out with the unbeaten and rolling coach, you you were front row, and I know you've watched a lot of film on one of these teams.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Uh North Pocono remained unbeaten and rolling with a shutout win over your squad there, and you knew this was gonna be a tough battle uh going into it, and it was.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Um, Dunmore also hammered Holy Cross 63 to 7.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: We talked about that last week as you know, just kind of an unfortunate timing there for Holy Cross.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Dallas beat my Abenton Height Comets 42-23.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Um, I gotta give a shout out to their old line coach, Rob Roper, that he I coached him before in semi-pro ball and watched him with the Wilkes Bear Pioneers, and he's doing an excellent job with those kids in the trenches.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: They were really tough.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Lakeland handled trail 49-28.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Riverside beat Lake Lehman 27-13.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: Montrose routed Colmont Votec 55-6.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: So six teams are still perfect, coach.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: What stands out there?
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, I I think, you know, I told you you last week, I think the teams uh that have a lot of you know playoff experience and then bring a lot of players back, I just think they're tough to beat.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, you see that with uh with North Pocono, they bring back well, I'm gonna say this too.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: If you bring back a lot of athletes, I think you're gonna stay in every game.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know that.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: So North Pocono, lots of athletes.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Dunmore, lots of athletes, Dallas, uh, tons of athletes, Lakeland, tons of athletes.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: Riverside has a Division I kid playing quarterback.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: Um, and you know, Montrose, I think, just up to this point, um, schedule-wise, is just you know, the schedule's kind of worked out.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: So uh you got some teams there with, you know, just dudes playing for them on a Friday night, and it's tough to beat those teams.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Dave Kurtzman here predicts, you know, nobody's beaten North Pocono in D2.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: You know, we'll see.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: There's definitely going to be a bullseye on their back, and and Coach Wanitz will go over their challenge this week, a little later in the show, and moving forward.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: Coach, as you looked at those games and you talked to, and I agree, those returning players are a big factor.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: You had to give a message to your team this week.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Coach Repcious up at Abington had to give a message to his team bouncing back.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: What do you say to those young players?
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: As you know, how do you take this as a learning experience and bounce back the following week?
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: Well, I think uh I think even as coaches, we learn uh and change a little bit.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: Like I could tell you, me 10 or 15 years ago at Valley View, I'm probably ripping my kids on a Friday night and then again on a Monday and again on a Tuesday.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Um, but now I think as I've coached a little bit more, I just think I think everything's a learning experience.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: So I told my kids, I'm like, hey, this is where we want to get to.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: You know, uh North Poconos one of the better teams in District 2 right now, uh last year and into this year.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: And uh we want to get to a point with our program where we can do that.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: We can run off a lot of wins and and you know, put out statement wins and we need to put it out.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, I think my kids took to that.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: I think uh, you know, you use it as a bounce back, you fix the things you need to fix, and hopefully your kids learn from that.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: And the next time you get in a big game like that, which will be Friday again for us, uh, you know, they come out and play a little better than they did last Friday.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: And I'm hearing a similar message from Coach Repsis and our assistant staff.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: You know, we have our first division game, and hey, we're we're using this now as a reset.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: You know, it's time to reset, refocus, make some adjustments, fix some things.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: And I always say that game film that your kids, our kids, all our programs' kids are watching is the greatest learning tool.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: So, you know, hopefully they're taking that seriously, all of our student athletes, and and just learning, and we'll see what this following week brings.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: And other games.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: You know, too.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, sometimes you just play teams that are better than you.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, it is what it is.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: You know, you can there's nothing wrong with saying that.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, I told my kids that after the game.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: I said, this team right now is better than we are.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: Uh, and there's nothing, you know, there's there's no negative in that.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's just you're gonna get into situations like that, whether it's high school, college, the pros.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, I mean, you see it Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: You know, there's some teams are just better equipped and have better players, and you got to get to a point where you hopefully can match up with those teams and uh, you know, be able to be in games.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's a realistic assessment.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: And then as we talk about a lot of these teams being younger, you know, hey, that that should fuel them.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: You know, hey, you're gonna play these programs again in a year, two years, and we're program building, we're developing these young kids.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: So, you know, recognizing who you're going against, and how do you take that to grow moving forward?
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Other games, we had some statement games.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Wall and Popak blasted Western Wayne, tough one there, 52-14.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: Berwick shutout, Wyoming area 39-0.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: And then we had some bounce back games and some firsts.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: Delaware Valley finally got in the Wimcomb, 13-10 over East Strasbourg.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: And that that was a late uh victory there for them.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Maybe a little closer than they wanted as they were hungry for that first win.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Piston grabbed its first, a 50-34 shootout at Hanover.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Valley West upset West Granton.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Uh, we were on opposite sides last week there.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: You know, West Grant's got those athletes, but Valley West was able to contain them.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: They win 25-14.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: Nanakoke edge Tunkanic 14-12 for its first win.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: And I'm happy I was on the Valley View side with you this last week as they handled Wilkes Bear 17-7.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Um, also, Carbondale keeps climbing.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, that was a surprise, I think, last week.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: Maybe not to them.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: They proved something with a 14-win over Crestwood.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: And just maybe, we'll see later if the Chargers crept into our big school top 10.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Coach, anything on those games?
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: Well, I just think uh, you know, Delaware Valley's been playing East Trousburg, played East Trousburg South.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: They've been kind of up and down.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: Uh good game for them, good win.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: It's the first uh, you know, more or less a local game for Delaware Valley to play, so you get a little bit of a look at where they're at.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: Uh Pittston's been scoring a ton of points, just giving up a lot of points.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, their shootout with Hanover, and they pretty much dominated that game.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: If you look at the you know, the scoring, and then uh Valley West has some really good players.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: They got a really good quarterback, and they've been really close in some of the games.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: Um Nana Coke, big win for them.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Uh they have a new coach too, so it's his first win there at Nanacoke.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: And then uh, you know, Valley View, I just think the physicality, you're gonna see that again this week.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, I've had people ask me a lot about that game.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: We'll talk about it later.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: But um, you know, they're in the same boat as a lot of teams.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: They've been there, done that.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: They have a lot of kids that are going to be physical, and it's gonna be, I think, interesting on Friday night.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Good insight.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: And in additionally, we have some stat leaders through three weeks keeping our fans updated here.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: Quest with Jake Jekyll leads NEPA in rushing 485 yards.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Wilkes Bear's Declan Greger leads in passing 658.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: And Riverside's Braden Rose leads in scoring with 54 points and nine touchdowns.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: And something we didn't mention last week and we should have, and doing and you know, performing again this week, Valley View kicker and punter Braden Loff recognized with Lackawanna Football Conference special teams honors this week.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: And two weeks ago, breaking his own school record with a 45 and then a 46-yard field goal, helping the Cougars win.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Coach, we we were talking previously, man, uh you appreciate a good kicker when you have one, and Braden's doing a heck of a job over there at Valley View.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he was uh, you know, he was kind of he was young playing for us in our uh when I was still at Valley View on our freshman team, and he'd kind of come over from soccer and kick a little bit, and the coaches after the game would be like, man, you gotta see this kicker we have.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: He was, you know, kicking uh, you know, kickoffs into the end zone in seventh grade and eighth grade, and uh, you know, he's just uh he loves kicking.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: He goes to a lot of camps, I know, in the summer uh with his dad, and uh they're all over the country.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: And you know, we have I think in District 2, we really have uh Hart Short's doing a great job.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Uh you know, for you guys at Abington, he can kick.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: Um his brother was a great kicker, and uh, you know, Lofts great at Valley Blue.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: So there's a lot of really good kickers, I think our area is getting more and more of those, and they really are a weapon on a Friday.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: If you can take three points instead of you know going forward on fourth and long or giving up a ball on down somewhere, it really changes the you know the outlook of the game and and what you're able to do uh offensively, really and defensively.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Later in my career, I've grown to love special teams.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: I had I had one kicker with our local NEPA minors the one year.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: His name was Kenny Parrish.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: He was an East Strasbourg University graduate, and he played on six NFL teams.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: And throughout my time, I'm had good kickers and you see different ones, but the way the football went off an NFL kicker's foot at practice, like normally our guys, you know, we get we know special teams is important, we might get along with the kicker, but our whole sidelines at practice would just stop and watch him punt or kick, and it was something to see.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: And then I later went up to Allentown, coached the semi-pro team, and did special teams, and I've just really grown to appreciate it.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: So kudos to Braden Loft, the work he put in in the offseason is paying off, he's growing every year, and he's got a nice promising future there.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: So again, congrats to Braden and the Cougars for their kicking game.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: George, I'm gonna set it up here.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: We're gonna roll out the rankings, you're gonna defend them.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: I have my challenge flags ready if needed, as always.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: The sportswire rankings are they shook things up this week.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: Let's start with the big school of top 10.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: If producer Brad could get those rankings up there, we have got North Pocono at 3-0, Dallas at 3-0.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: So the powerhouses are up front.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: Dallas and Abington were really close last week at 2-3.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: Dallas cementer that spot at 2.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: They're chasing North Pocono.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Valley View seems to be firming up at number 3 at 2-1, with Berwick, you know, chasing there at 2-1.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: My comet slid to 1-2, so they've got something to prove this week.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: Delaware Valley gets that first win.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: They're at 6 now.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: Carbondale, we said it before.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: They sneak in at number 7 at 2-1.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: Honesdale's 2-1.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: Pop Pack 2-1.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: West Granton slides a little bit at a two and one.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: These these rankings are they're shaking up, but they're starting to play out.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: We're getting a better feel for these teams, coach.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Defend those rankings.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just think uh once teams start to play in District 2 and those district two games, I think you really get a better look at where they're actually at.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Um, a lot of the teams, uh like Delaware Valley, has been playing teams from out of state, prep's been playing teams from out of state.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: We get to the small school.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: So it's really hard to kind of gauge where they're at, but I think once you start playing the district two teams, you can kind of look at the scoring and where things are starting to shake out.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: And then it I think it kind of plays uh into this a little bit better.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: North Pocono and Dallas haven't lost yet.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: Uh, I'm just giving North Pocono the nod there because they're defending district champs.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, one and two are there.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Valley View, um, a big win, I think, against uh, you know, they beat Crestwood, they beat um Booksbury last week.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: Their only loss is to uh Northwestern Lehigh, who's number one in the state right now in their class.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: So uh and that game was relatively close, and if you really talk to people from Valley View, they had a chance to win that game.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: So uh they move up to three.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: Berwick's been playing really well since their loss to North Pocono.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: And again, even with them, they went to North Pocono to play the number one team.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: North Pocono jumped them a little bit early and I think took them out of their game.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: I think that's a different game uh if they play each other again.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Abington uh obviously losing to Dallas, uh, a District 2 team, I think, is uh uh just drops them down a little bit in the rankings.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Deliver Valley gets their first win.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: I still think they're tough if they had to play uh in the schedule, which they're gonna get a uh you know, a tough game this week.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Carbonell upsets Crestwood, so uh they jump into seven.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Umstale stays at eight, even though they lost to North Pocono.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: I think again you're playing the number one team.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: So uh Holmesdale beat Wall and Paul Packs, so they'll stay ahead of them.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: Paul Packs uh run off two straights since losing to Holmesdale, and then West kind of a surprising loss, I thought, to Wyoming Valley West, uh knocks them down to 10.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: That's a good analysis there, Coach.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna hold the challenge flag.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: My Abenton Heights comments, boys.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: If you're listening tonight, alright.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: I'm challenging you know to get back up in those rankings, all right?
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: But uh lot to prove, but uh a very solid top 10 there.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: Getting very competitive, excited to see how these top 10 teams perform this week.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: And there's some teams probably on the outside looking in.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of season left to get in there.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: Small school top 10.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: Producer Brad, let's have it.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: All right, coach.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: We got Dunmore holding very strong at 3-0, Scranton Prep 2-1 at number two, Lakeland Chiefs at 3-0, Riverside at 3-0, Wyoming area at 1-2, holding on at number 5, Montreaux 3-0, Lake Lehman 1-2 at 7, Mid Valley 2-1 at 8, Western Wayne at 2-1, and Holy Redeemer at 1-2.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: Coach Hoannets, I am throwing the challenge flag here in the small school top 10 rankings on behalf of all the 3-0 teams there, especially my Chiefs, coach.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: My Chiefs are feeling that they should be ahead of Scranton Prep with that 3-0 record there.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: And Riverside, their fans I know have something to say about it, and even Montreaux creeping up.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Coach, defend those rankings and tell me why those 3-0 teams are not higher.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Alright, so I'm gonna say this with 100% certainty.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: And I maybe I shouldn't say it this way, but I am.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Um Scranton Prep beats every team on this list.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: So to me, uh Scranton Prep should probably be the one team.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: The only reason why they're two is because they lost the game to an out-of-state opponent early.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: Um, if they're three and oh right now, they're sitting on top because I really think if any of these teams play prep, prep's beaten all these teams.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: So uh Dunmore's at one just because they're undefeated.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: And again, they bring back a lot of guys scoring a lot of points.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Um Lakeland, I dropped Lakeland to three just because they really haven't played any really good teams yet.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: Um you know, Scranton Prep played, I told you last week, uh that team from Connecticut was the number four team in Connecticut.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: Um Riverside at four, again, uh undefeated, so they jump up there.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: I just think Wyoming area is at five because Wyoming area beats Montrose, beats Lake Lehman, beats Mid Valley, beats Western Wayne, and beats Holy Redeemer.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, and again, look at Wyoming area's schedule.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: They played uh Dunmore, Hanover, and Berwick is their first three teams, which no team on this list has played uh a beginning part of the schedule, with two out of three being really, really good teams uh like Wyoming area has.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: So again, I think as they start to play more teams in their division, you'll see them starting to win a lot more games.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Montrose at six, just because again, they're undefeated.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: Uh, again, not really sure what they're able to do yet.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: They haven't really played a really great opponent yet.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Lake Lehman's been tough uh up and down.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: I think they're good at seven.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: They beat Mid-Vally, so uh Mid-Vally comes behind them at eight.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: Western Wayne struggled last week uh against Wall and Paul Pack.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: Again, I I think they'll be fine against most teams, but the bigger schools they're gonna struggle with.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: And then uh Redeemer had a big win that last week.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: They have some really good skill kids, so they round out the top ten.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Coach, you give a compelling argument there back on my challenge flags.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: As we know, these games are gonna have to play themselves out.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: But on behalf of the three-o, three and oh teams, I had your back tonight.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: Probably a little biased, Coach, with my Chiefs, and a little story for you.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: So, Doug Nolden he busted my chops here that this helmet would be illegal today.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: So, back in back in 1995, Coach, this was not my helmet, even though my helmet then was probably illegal today.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: But we play in the dream game, and we have a little post dream game.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Game, extracurricular activity, all healthy, but we're out, and my helmet at that time and my Lakeland jerseys I had were in the back of quarterback Rich Conte from Riverside.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: Rich, if you're out there, if someone who knows Rich is listening, we're in his van.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: Rich and our Lakeland running back Kevin McGregor decides to go fishing that night into the morning, whatever they do.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: And I never saw my helmet.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: It had all the stickers that you take pride in in high school on it.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: My jersey's gone.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: Never to be found again, coach.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: I will give a reward out there if anyone finds that Lakeland helmet with the stickers in my 27 jerseys.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: So a good friend of mine, Mark Sears, who was coaching youth football, uh, my semi-pro team went to help him out and he knew I was missing a Lakeland helmet.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: So he got this for my collection, so I appreciate it.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: But that was my old dream game scory story there, coach.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: I had to share it as Doug's busting my chops here.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: I think all the helmets we probably wore would be illegal right now.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: Man, it's a the stuff these kids have these days on those fancy helmets, they're they're they're doing all right for sure.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: All right, before we hit that week for preview, it is time for the fit of the week.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: Fueled by Fit AF Nutrition, our SportsWire team is watching every Friday night for the best game day fits.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: All right, Sportswire, you better check out Jackson Poches next week at Lakeland, from what I saw, if he's wearing that same fit.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: But this week's fit goes to Chase Roche of Carbondale Area Chargers.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: Producer Brad, if you have that picture, man, you you gotta pop that baby up.
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: Um, if not, I'll speak to it here.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: When it comes to your own fuel, check out FITAF Nutrition Meal Prep and use the code Chargers20 to save 20% off your first order of seven meals or more.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: Chase over there in Carbondale, you rock the drip.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: There it is.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: I I love this coach.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: When I played ball, I had this red, white, and blue bandana I used to always wear and take pride of.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: Chase took this next level with that jersey.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it was a salute to service game, maybe that Carbondale had or what they were doing, but that is hot.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: That is how you do it the right way.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: Chase is styling.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: He also looks like he's in the gym, you know, so he he he's he's wearing that uniform very well.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: He gets the fit of the week fueled by fit AF Nutrition.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: So, Dan, I'm gonna tell you just a little bit because I know Jeff Arthur.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: Uh so Jeff Jeff uh Arthur is Carbonale's head coach.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: He's a uh he's a policeman in Carbondale.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: So it was uh the 25th anniversary of 9-11 last week.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: So uh he got the jerseys for 9-11.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: He did a lot for 9-11, obviously, being a law enforcement officer with all they did that day.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, he takes a lot of pride in that.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: So uh they wore the USA jerseys.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: And then um the young man you saw there with his drip, I'm assuming the picture is he recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: So uh not only does he have the fit of the week, he scored a touchdown as a lineman.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: I think it was on a block punt, if I remember right.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: Uh so he gets the you know, he could get the double fit of the week for his touchdown and uh the great look with that USA jersey on.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: That is awesome.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: You know, we love those big man touchdowns as coaches and as players, so he's celebrating that.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: Kudos to Coach Arthur, man.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: You did it the right way.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: We just did a salute to service at our uh home opener at Lackawanna College this week.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna get some ideas there from Coach Arthur with it with those jerseys.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: They're beautiful.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Congrats to our winner.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: And now, hey, Chase, hopefully you could carry that momentum, although Coach Juanitz may not agree, into week four.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: We're gonna see what happens.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: Week four preview, featured games.
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: We're gonna start with a spotlight game, and then there's many that could be a spotlight game.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: I picked North Pocono and Valley View here as the game of the week, coach.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Number one versus number three on the big school board Friday at 7 o'clock.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: North Pocono, the defending 4A State Champ coach.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: This one could decide the Lackawanna Football Conference Division I race.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: Maybe I know there's a lot of season to be played, but this is a big one.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Who do we like?
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's uh, I mean, obviously, I think Division I is one of the better divisions, obviously, with all the teams they have.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: So this is just, I think, one uh kind of step up that ladder.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: But uh, you know, North Pocono's tough.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: Cole West could just do everything.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: Uh you really have to know where he's at all over the field, offensively, defensively, special teams.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: So um, I mean, he scored on his uh rushing, receiving, and uh interception return for a touchdown.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: He's just uh he's just a great player.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: Um I think it's gonna be, I know a lot of people don't think it's gonna be a good game, but I think it's gonna be uh maybe a game right down to the wire.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: I just I think Valley View uh is physical enough to kind of keep the game going.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: Um North Pocon, I think, in their three wins, has been able to just kind of jump on teams early and uh get up a lot early and kind of take teams out of their game.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: And I just think uh Coach Wasilchak will kind of slow the game down.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: They'll they'll run a bit of a little bit of power, a little bit of blast.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: They have really good uh skill kids and power kids, I think, that can hold up, and I think it'll be a much better game than people think.
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: Now again, I'm gonna pick North Pocono just because nobody's beaten them yet, but uh I think the game's gonna come right down the wire.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: I kind of have that feeling too.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: I have North Pocono winning a close game, but if I'm coaching North Pocono this week, man, I I know Coach Wissel Czech's gonna have them prepared in Valley View, and I know if there's any team that could pull out a win, and they are a very good Valley View team that's gaining momentum at home.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: You sleep on them, they they could easily pull off a win here.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: And it's gonna be a game we talked about, you know, Braden Loff and special teams.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: Valley View's gonna need to be clicking on all three cylinders.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: Control the game, special teams are gonna be big.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: That's gonna be a great game to watch.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: Coach, if we didn't have uh games to coach ourselves this weekend, I'd be calling you to say, hey, let's go down and watch that game because it it is gonna be a great game to watch.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: I just think if you can if Valley View can limit, like they're they're they rely a lot on big plays.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, North Pocano's getting interceptions for touchdowns, running back kicks, running back punts, like big plays on offense.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: And I just think if they can any high school game, if you can make teams get long drives and beat you, uh, I think you have a good chance to win.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: So I think they'll be able to do that.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: I think they match up athlete-wise, speed-wise, and physicality-wise, and I think it'll be a good game to watch.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: That's the thing.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: You punch a team in the mouth, the physicality of a game, it could change the tone, but you have to stop those explosives that you're describing that you're describing, those explosive plays.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: They have to be contained and limited.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: You know, that was the difference in the West Granton game last week.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: They were they didn't get those explosives that they had in pr in previous weeks.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: So Valley View has to do that while protecting the football and winning all facets of the game.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: Shifting gears, the reason you can't watch that game this week is Carbondale area is going to be traveling to Honesdale.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: Both teams two and one.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: Now, again, taking the bias out, you're a little less in the prediction business here, coach.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: So I'll I'll set it up.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: We have newly ranked Carbondale riding Francisco Roman, 294 yards, and the talented Caden Voglino visiting your squad who's looking to answer back after a game with North Pocono, riding, you know, the great performances you've been getting out of Gabe Duda, 395 yards, four touchdowns, and the talented Turk Acker.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: And I know you got some other guys that you're gonna be looking to have step up.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: Two two-in-one teams with real stakes.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: What could you tell our fans as far as what to expect that are going to this game?
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: Well, uh, Carbonell's good.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're they're riding kind of a wave right now.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: They have some they're big up front.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: Uh they have some really, really good skilled kids that make a lot of plays for them.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: Uh Vogelino and Roman being two of those.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: Uh their quarterbacks are really good.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: They're they're like I said, they're good at um turning the ball over defensively, which is you know, big in any high school.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: They're running back kicks.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: They're uh Coach Arthur just has them playing really well and believing uh they can win, which probably maybe they haven't been that way for the last X amount of years, but he has them believing this year.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, it'll be a good game, I think.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm glad we're home uh playing on the turf.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: I think that helps.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, and it's it's gonna be a bounce back.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: I listen, you can say what you want.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: It's we're not playing North Pocono this week, you know.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, you our kids um understand what they did last week, and uh, you know, we've put the time in, we've had a better week of practice, and and hopefully they can get it to turn around.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: And uh, but I think it'll be a good game.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: This is big uh playoffs for both teams, playoff implications, both 4-A.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, and I I think it's uh it almost means double for whichever team can win because you're beating a 4-A team and really jumping them probably in the playoff points, you know, when that starts to come out in a couple weeks.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: That's a good take.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: And you know, without even having spoken with you, you know, I know you're emphasizing the ball security this week and gearing this up as a bounce back game.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: I'll take the sports wire prediction on this one, and again, no bias here.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: I think it's gonna be a really good game.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: Like you said, there's big playoff implications, two-and-one.
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: You're trying to get that edge.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: I have Honesdale winning.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: I just think home field advantage is is important, and you have it here, and uh, I know you'll have those kids ready.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: So good luck this weekend uh to both squads.
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: You know, it's gonna be a good game, but you know, our sports wire listeners that they're rooting for you, coach.
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: So Friday at 7, Carbondale at Honesdale, the battle of the two-and-one squads.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: Now, taking it my way, all right.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: And then, coach, I'll let you have the prediction business here.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: West Granton 2-1, traveling to Abenton Heights, one and two.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: It's been uh, you know, I think it may be a little bit of a Florida.
- 31:31SPEAKER_00: I was talking to the Delaware Valley coach and staff, and they were saying the same thing.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: Our staff was saying, you know, you're on this big high traveling to Florida, and then you come down and you gotta ramp back up.
- 31:43SPEAKER_00: Both teams are coming off losses.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: You know, Abington's been leading on our running back Jaden Englin.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: He's having a heck of a year, 462 yards, five touchdowns.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: West Scrant encounters with quarterback Austin Sostri, 515 yards pass passing, and then Johnny Sostre, five four receiving touchdowns.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: This is setting itself up to be a very good game.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: Um our Abbotton staff has got to make some adjustments on defense from last week.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: We played a tough uh Dallas team.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: How do you see this game playing out, coach?
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: You lost to you lost to Dallas last week, which I think if if I if you asked me in the last 10 years, there's probably five teams that are uh you know legitimately every year in the mix.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: Uh Dallas, Valley View, uh D V, Prep, and it's been la guana trail.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, those five teams have been in the district uh championship game, and you could probably throw Abington in for the last five years or whatever.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: Uh but I'm saying that for the last decade, uh those five teams have really been in the mix constantly.
- 32:47SPEAKER_01: So uh Abington loses last week to a really good Dallas team, and I told you last week you have to go to Dallas to play, which I think is one of the hardest places in District 2 to play at and win a game.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: Um so again, you played a good team, uh sometimes you get beat, and sometimes my coach used to tell me sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets you.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: So uh it's just the way it works.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: But I think Abington bounces back this week.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: I think uh skill-wise and just being in those big games ready to start the year uh puts you in a better position.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: I think West Granton's relatively new to this.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: They have a lot of young kids playing that haven't been in these bigger games, and I just think uh Abington behind uh Austin Sastre and Colbert and uh you know the athletes you guys have.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: I just and I know I know West has a lot of good athletes too, but I just think you'll match up well when I see uh Abington win this game.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's gonna be interesting, and I think I could share, like, you know, we've been without Noah Kale, our starting quarterback.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: He's back practicing while Gavin Shea's done a great job, a young quarterback that's came in for him and has such a bright future.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: So we've got a good situation there at quarterback and a lot of season to play.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: We got to win the game in the trenches.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: Uh, we'll see how it plays out this week.
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be a fun win at Abington Heights Friday night at seven.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: And turn it over now to the team that we played.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: You mentioned Dallas 3-0 going to Pitston area.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: You know, I mentioned their O-line coach Rob Roper, who's done a really good job with that team in the trenches.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: And as our Abington coach and staff talked after the game, we believe this Dallas team is gonna be good the rest of the way.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: Like that they are, they've got it together this year in the trenches.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: And when you win up front, you're you're very hard to beat, and they've got some good athletes.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: Coach, do you see that momentum continuing this week as they have to now travel to the road to uh to Pittston area?
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just think uh, you know, they've been in that same system now for probably over 10 years, and and uh coach has them going there in Dallas.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: They don't change very much, just the body, so they'll always have a good tailback, they have a good fullback, they'll have a good quarterback, uh good receiver, and you know that they have Pit Cavage, they have Gesky, uh, you know, their fullback ran for 99 yards or whatever last week, right?
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: And a couple touchdowns.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Uh Saranac, or uh so they they have some really, really good kids.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: Now, Pitston has some good kids too with Lepresto and Salvo, but uh I just think defensively they're giving up too many points.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: I think Dallas will be too much for them.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: And uh even going to Pitston, I think Dallas is tough to beat.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: So I see Dallas uh you know getting staying undefeated for next week.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, anyone from Pitston area is listening, you have to be physical.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: You know, be be prepared there with it with that Dallas team.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: Now, shifting over Lake Lehman at Dunmore.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: You know, I think this is primarily a spot spotlight game because we're watching Dunmore every week at 3-0.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: Can anyone slow down the district's top small school team, coach?
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: Uh I don't think so this week.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, McCormick's doing a great job at quarterback.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, they have uh they're their usual suspects scoring a lot of touchdowns for them.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: Costanzo, you know, so uh Wolf's getting in the mix now, too, for them.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, they just have a lot of weapons.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: They've been there, they got a lot of guys back.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, Lake Lehman has been rushing the ball pretty well.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, they have Harris, 133 yards rushing last week, a touchdown, Bond, 81 yards rushing a touchdown, but I just don't think uh firepower-wise, they'll be able to keep up with all the points Dunmore can score.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, coming off a tough loss against Riverside, it's gonna be a hard one for Lake Lehman.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: They have to try the way to slow down that Dunmore explosive uh offense there.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: We'll see what happens.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: Now we also have Mid Valley at Wyoming area, a ranked small school clash, number eight versus number five.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: How does this one play out, Coach?
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: This is uh this is like a big game for me just to see how it turns out.
- 36:39SPEAKER_01: I I just you know, preseason, Wyoming area is supposed to be really good.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: I think they lost Gravine, their quarterback early, which has been uh big loss for them.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: But again, they've played a tough schedule.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: Uh Kapechny's done a pretty good job, but again, you're moving a kid from receiver to quarterback.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: Uh maybe didn't practice there all summer, so it's uh a little bit tougher, I think.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: Uh and Mid-Vally's just been running the ball.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: So uh they have Barnaskis.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: Last week he went for 258 rushing yards and a touchdown.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: So I'm really interested to see what's going to happen here.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: Um, I still think it's Wyoming area, and Mid Valley has to go to Wyoming area, another tough place, I think, to win.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: So um I'm gonna take Wyoming area just because I think they've played a tough schedule, but uh I'm interested to see how this game turns out because I think Mid-Valley could pull an upset here uh just because they run the ball well and I think they're physical up front.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I keep going back and forth on this one.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: I know our listeners, Dave has uh Mid-Vally upset.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: I could see that playing out, but I'm also gonna go with Coach with a physicality.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: I think Wyoming area, even though they had a tough loss to Berwick, we know it's a really good Berwick team.
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: I think they come home and that physicality comes in, and I see Wyoming area bouncing back again.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: I think this could be a potential nail biter as well.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: Then we look at a powerhouse game here.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Scranton Prep two and one.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: You said it earlier, Coach.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: You see Scranton Prep could beat anyone in their conference.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: Del Val, they have played three tough games in a row, but now they've gotten off the schneid.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: Number two small school on the road.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: Does Prep beat Delaware Valley, or is Delaware Valley keep the win streak?
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: Well, I've talked to a lot of people since our North Polkano game just about you know how the schedule is gonna play out.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: Can they go on defeat?
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: And I think they're excellent, obviously.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: I told you that.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: Um, I just think that gauntlet in Division I is tough each week when you got to play D V, you gotta play Valley View, you gotta play Abington, you have to play Prep.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, you gotta play Wall and Paul pack.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: It's tough.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: I mean it's a tough schedule.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: Um, I think the uh Scranton Prep is one of the better teams in in the district, uh, you know, definitely in the division.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: So um I see them going up to Delaware Valley and winning this game.
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: I just think they're skill-wise, uh you know, scheme-wise, I think they're tough.
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: Um I think Delaware Valley is really good too.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: I think this could be another game that's really close, but I just don't know with McPartland and and Jeffers and what they're able to do with uh, you know, at Prep the DBO be able to kind of withstand that.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna have to agree with you there.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: I just got this gut feeling that McParlane led team versus a Delaware Valley team that although they're battle-tested, I think it's been a little harder than they've expected.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: Even last week, again, it went right down to the wire.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: Should be an excellent game.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: You know those teams are gonna come prepared, but I have Scranton prep as well in a close one.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: Coach, we've spotlighted those games.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: There's a lot more to cover, so we're gonna go rapid fire now through these games.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: Every remaining District 2 game gets a hit.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: Couple sentences here.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: Your thoughts wall and popak at Scranton.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: Pop Pack surging, Coach.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh Paul Pack behind the Keys and Dolls and Rafferty.
- 39:42SPEAKER_01: Uh Scranton's just been struggling.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: I just think uh I don't even know if this game will be close again.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: Uh that's this, I think, is Wallin Paul Pack big over Scranton.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm hearing that Scranton team's very young.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: So, you know, knights hang in there, keep battling.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: You gotta develop that young talent, like Coach and Juanitz and I were talking about earlier in the show.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: Wilkes Bear 0-3 at Berwick, 2-1.
- 40:02SPEAKER_00: Berwick fresh off a shutout?
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: Uh yes, I have to see is at Berwick.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: So that that already gives you a couple points.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: And then uh they're just I think Cleaver, if you watch uh Brady Cleaver on film, uh he's every bit as good as any quarterback in District 2, maybe in the state.
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: He can run, he can throw, he's super fast.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: Uh I just don't think Wilkesbury will be able to keep up with that um at Crispin Field.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: Berwick definitely has a dude there, man.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: And uh hey, Declan Gregor's gonna fight back as best as he can, but Berwick is a tough out, man.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: Lackawanna Trail 0-3 at Riverside 3-0, unbeaten Riverside coach.
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: I I think you're gonna have them keeping that going.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just think too many athletes.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: Braden Rose just makes too many plays.
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, trail right now is just too young.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: So uh, and it's at Riverside, so I'll give uh Riverside a big nod there with behind Braden Rose, the undefeated.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: Crestwood 1-2 at Hazleton 0-3.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: We got our NEPA rushing leader going.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on at Crestwood.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: I saw them a little bit on film last week.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, I thought they started the year strong.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: They had a couple kids kind of, I think, dinged up.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, great running game.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: Um hazleton kind of comes in with uh, you know, some passing, some some rushing.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: So it'll be an interesting game.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm gonna take, I guess you could call it a little bit an upset.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna take Hazleton in this game over Crestwood.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: Like that.
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: Now we got Holy Redeemer one and two at Western Wayne, two and one.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: Newly ranked Holy Redeemer, coach.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think another good game.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: Um this is a tough one to pick because I think Western Wayne is physical.
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: They're gonna uh run the ball well and they they could throw a little bit.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: Redeemer just comes in with that spread and kind of chucking it all over.
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: So um the same thing here.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: I think uh most people would probably pick Western Wayne.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna take Redeemer in this one in a really close game.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: Uh, but I think their passing game is tough to kind of defend because you haven't seen it a lot.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: Uh so I'm gonna go with Redeemer here.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: Coach Wan, it's riding the upsets this week.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 42:03SPEAKER_00: We'll find out next week on Sportswire how that plays out.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: Listeners, continue to tune in and comment.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: Let us know your thoughts.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: But we got a few more games here.
- 42:11SPEAKER_00: Hanover area, 0-3 at Valley West, 1-2.
- 42:15SPEAKER_00: Valley West is fresh off of an upset win.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: I think Valley West, I said uh preseason, I thought they're gonna be a really good team.
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: They have uh quarterback back, some receivers back.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: So uh they've been uh running the ball real well.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Malik Campbell, 212 yards rushing, two touchdowns last week.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: Uh Eastman had 81 yards passing, a touchdown.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: They have a lot of good athletes.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: Uh Hanover's just been kind of playing a rough schedule early, but uh they're at Valley West.
- 42:41SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, Dwayne Downey and Logan Richardson and that team from Hanover's got to go into Valley West.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: So uh I'm gonna take Valley West there.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Again, that this one I think is gonna be a shootout.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: This could be 50 to 49.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Hanover's really hungry for their first win, and Valley West seems to be figuring things out.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: We do expect a shootout there.
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: Another fun one to watch.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: We have Tunkanic 0-3 at Old Forge, 0-3, a true first win game.
- 43:06SPEAKER_00: One of these teams finally gets off the mat.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: Who is it, Coach?
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm gonna take Old Forge in this game.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Again, just because they're home.
- 43:13SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, I I think again, they've played a pretty rough schedule early, so is Tunkanic for that matter.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: But um, I think Tunkanock losing last week to uh Nanokoke is uh you know a little bit of an indicator that you know they they got a little ways to go.
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: And they have some young kids playing at certain skill positions, so uh I'm gonna take Old Forge in this one.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: Nanokoke one and two at Panther Valley one and two.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: Nanokoke's coming off its first win.
- 43:40SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, same kind of thing.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: I think uh I did a little research on Panther Valley.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: They had uh Jeremy Smith last week, 144 yards rushing, and Chet Beggs, uh 44 yards passing and a touchdown.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: Uh side mainer has been great for Nanacoke, but um I just think again, Nanacoke's young, kind of inexperienced.
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: So uh I'm gonna take Panther Valley in this game.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: Quietly unbeaten Montrose at 3-0, traveling to Holy Cross, Saturday at 1.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be the same thing.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: Holy Cross just doesn't have enough bodies.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, Montrose's been doing a good job uh rushing and passing, so I see them staying undefeated this week.
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: My Lakeland Chiefs, 3-0, looking to avenge 1995 versus Susquehanna, who's 0-3, Saturday at 1 o'clock.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: Who you have, Coach?
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Susquehanna.
- 44:29SPEAKER_01: This will be an ugly one.
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: Uh I just they can't defend everybody.
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: Uh Lakeland's too good.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: Their skill guys are too good.
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: They're hitting on all cylinders now, and uh they'll be gearing up to start getting into the league schedule and playing some of the tougher teams.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: So I hear that right.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: You have Susquehanna?
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: No, I don't know.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: Lakeland, Lakeland, Lakeland.
- 44:45SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: I want to make sure.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Susquehanna.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: Sorry, okay.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: That's what I wanted to clarify that.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: I had the penalty flag, the challenge flag.
- 44:53SPEAKER_00: It was already.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: No.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: So I love it.
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: Hey, before we close, a quick heads up for fight fans.
