- 1:07are in trial today, so neither Tom nor Harvey are with us today.
- 1:11But they've sent some able fill ins. They are not lawyers, okay,
- 1:15so we'll tell you that right from the beginning. But thanks for joining us
- 1:19this morning. Our number three oh four three four five fifty eight fifty eight
- 1:23three oh four three four five fifty eight fifty eight and in for Tom and
- 1:27Harvey are two folks with the Dumont Try County Y MCA in Tays Valley and
- 1:36where Tom serves as the president of the board there, and so he wanted
- 1:41these folks to fill in today to tell you, tell us about what's going
- 1:44on at the Try County Why MCA. So let me first introduce the Wellness
- 1:49director, Casey Harper. Casey, good morning, good morning, how are
- 1:52you. I'm good, How are you good? Good to see you.
- 1:53And the Youth programs director is Jared Belles. Jared, how you doing,
- 1:57buddy good? How are you doing? Good? Good to see you both
- 2:00this morning. And so let's get this out of the way. First of
- 2:02all, neither one of your lawyers is that true, completely correct, So
- 2:07they cannot answer any law questions, but they can answer a lot of other
- 2:12questions because a lot of exciting things are happening at the Dumont Trey County Y
- 2:15MCA. So we're going to talk about those over the next few minutes.
- 2:19And Tom and Harvey aren't here this morning. They're in trial actually in Cable
- 2:23County, so in its octs a very interesting trial, and Tom's referred to
- 2:28it a few times on the air, just you know, not a lot
- 2:30of details because you didn't want to do that before the trial started. But
- 2:35I'm sure by this time next week, if the trial's over, we'll be
- 2:38able to get some details on the trial. But they're you know, they're
- 2:42doing what they do, representing people and representing you. And of course their
- 2:46information is Peytonlawfirm dot com. Peyton Lawfirm dot com. If you have a
- 2:50question for Harvey or Tom or you can drop by the office first Avenue there
- 2:54in Nitro, not far from the Dairy Queen and their number at their office
- 2:59is seven fifty five fifty six three or four seven five five five five five
- 3:04six. We're going to talk about the do Mott tri County YMCA this morning,
- 3:07and let's start with Casey. She's the wellness director. So Casey,
- 3:10give us just a low down. And some people may know this, but
- 3:15maybe some people don't. We're exactly you are located and those type of things.
- 3:20So we are in tays Valley. If you get off of Scott Deepo
- 3:23exit and you come down, I think it's Tayes Valley Road road over by
- 3:29the movie theater. It's not the movie theater road, but it's very very
- 3:31close. I think it's a couple streets up from there. We actually have
- 3:35a new bright sign at the end of the road that says Dumont Track Honey
- 3:38YMCA lights up and then on the screen it tells you what we have going
- 3:42on currently and that type of thing, so you can't miss it now.
- 3:46Yeah, and it's a very busy place, right, it's not. You
- 3:47know, we're kidding around a little bit this morning because one of your first
- 3:52jobs there, you were the early morning person. Yes, for the people
- 3:55who set in their cars until the door's open so they can get on the
- 3:59treadmill else four forty five am shifting. Yeah, exactly. But there's so
- 4:02much more that goes on there, right, besides just treadmills running, and
- 4:06we have treadmills. We have we now have new stare masters. They came
- 4:11in last year. We got a lot of new cardio equipment. We have
- 4:15some rowers, a skier which is kind of popular in the CrossFit area of
- 4:20fitness. We got some new pre course selectorized machines that is in our wellness
- 4:26center. But then we also offer group fitness classes. We offer some aqua
- 4:30classes that are back in our pool area and okay, that's fine. Yeah,
- 4:38so let's talk about So you're the wellness director, so tell me what
- 4:43that what that means. So I am in charge of all of our anything
- 4:46wellness. So the fitness center where all the cardio weightlifting stuff is at.
- 4:51I'm in charge of the group fitness classes, so anywhere from pilates to yoga.
- 4:56We have a strength Trained Together class which is by Mosa, and then
- 5:00we offer Silver Sinkers, which is probably our most popular class with the senior
- 5:05citizens. It's probably my absolute favorite class to teach. We also have zoomba
- 5:11boot camps, that type of thing. So I'm in charge of all of
- 5:14that personal training. And then we have building supervisors who come in the evening
- 5:18when all the directors are gone, and I'm in charge of kind of supervising
- 5:23that, making sure that they're in on time and that they know how to
- 5:25do their jobs, and they even just to make sure our building is good
- 5:29and safe and running as smoothly as it can. So let's talk about just
- 5:32for a second then the like, So you have a large area, this
- 5:36kind of describe it like you have a large area where the fitness some of
- 5:40the fitness things are, and then you have individual kind of workout rooms made
- 5:43the wellness center. Yeah, so when you come into the building, it's
- 5:45off to the right and it's a pretty good sized area. We have all
- 5:49of our Selectorize equipment in there, all of our cardio equipment in there,
- 5:53all of our we have a cable tree that has all the cable attachments.
- 5:57We have a little freeway area, and then we have like a couple flat
- 6:00benches, a incline bench, two squad racks, and a smith machine.
- 6:06Because pretty busy in there certain times of the day, but it's a great
- 6:11place to work out comfortable, you know, everybody, family oriented, type
- 6:15of h type of place. And so then there are individual individual classes too
- 6:21throughout the day, right starting in the mornings. Starting in the morning.
- 6:24Our first class is at eight thirty on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- 6:29The eight thirty class is pilates on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The eight thirty classes
- 6:34yoga on Mondays and Wednesdays. We have a nine thirty class which is our
- 6:42step and strength So it's a little bit of a step workout and then a
- 6:46little bit of a strength with dumbbells and such on Wednesdays that are on Tuesdays
- 6:51and Thursday is Strength Trained Together, which is the most program that we go
- 6:55by, which is a lot of people will know it by group power,
- 6:58but at the YMCA, it is straight Trained Together. And then every day
- 7:03Monday through Friday, we have Silver Sneakers, which is our senior program.
- 7:08It is at eleven am and Monday through Thursday. It's a regular classic class,
- 7:13so you can get anything from cardio, a little bit of weight,
- 7:15it's a little bit of resistance training, a little bit of balance, a
- 7:19little bit of stretching and cloling down. And then Friday it is a just
- 7:24a Silver Sneaker's chair yoga and then Friday we have zoomba at nine thirty to
- 7:31ten thirty. Okay, so how do you get So these classes start every
- 7:35so often, how do you sign up? Do they last for a certain
- 7:39period of time then a new class starts. So our group fitness classes those
- 7:42were just the morning was. We have your evening ones as well, but
- 7:45our morning ones, all of those that I said this morning are that we're
- 7:49on the schedule are free for all members. If you're not a member,
- 7:54you can come in, drop in for a class, either do a guest
- 7:56pass, or you can get a class pass if you want to try it
- 8:00before you join anything like that. It is open for anybody. You don't
- 8:03have to have signed up for anything. They happen all the time. It's
- 8:07like a continual thing. If there's if like there's a holiday or some construction
- 8:13going on, we notify our members to let them know, like, hey,
- 8:16this is what's going on. I'm not going to have class today.
- 8:18But normally they're a staple and what we do every day at the YMC.
- 8:22Okay, yeah, we're going to talk about membership here in just a minute.
- 8:24But Casey Harper is a wellness director there. Jered Belles is the youth
- 8:28programs director. So that's a whole nother thing, right, Jared, Yes,
- 8:33tell me about that and just give me kind of an overall view of
- 8:35what you guys do with the children. Yeah, so, youth programs director,
- 8:39I'm basically the sports dude. I'm everything sports from youth and adult.
- 8:46Not only that, I'm also the assistant cam director in the summer, and
- 8:50I can get in a little bit of that stuff we've got going on there.
- 8:52But youth program director, like through the building and everything. I'm basically
- 8:58all the sports. So we've got basketball going on right now. We're actually
- 9:01last week got postponed because of all the snow we got, but first week
- 9:05of games are this weekend. We have basketball. We do soccer outdoor in
- 9:09the spring. In the fall, we do flag football in the spring in
- 9:13the fall, and then in October November we do indoor soccer inside of our
- 9:18gym. That one gets crazy. But not only that with the youth sports,
- 9:22we also offer a lot of adult sports right now. The biggest one
- 9:28is pickleball. Everybody loves pickleball. Yeah, we do that on Tuesdays,
- 9:33Thursdays, and Sundays about what twelve to four during the week, and then
- 9:39on Sundays they run about twelve to two eleven to two. That one is
- 9:45huge. I mean we get thirty or forty people in the gym at one
- 9:48time and they go at it. We also offer co ed volleyball. That's
- 9:52pretty big one. Right now, we're sitting about sixteen teams playing. That's
- 9:58a lot of the younger folk come in and do that. We play on
- 10:01Monday nights. They're being kind of a let me ask you this I jump
- 10:05in here. There being kind of resurgence in volleyball. Yeah, I really
- 10:09think so, just like in the area, there's been a lot of young
- 10:13people really get into it with the travel ball scene and everything. So once
- 10:16they graduate high school, there's no not really any adult leagues around here.
- 10:20We have a couple, there's a couple of church leagues that I have heard,
- 10:22but we've really exploded this especially this season. The fall season, we
- 10:28always struggle a little bit to get some people because of people playing and coaching
- 10:31in high schools. But once the season ends, I mean, it's all
- 10:35go very competitive. If that's like something you're looking for for a competitive league,
- 10:41we're really the place to come to because we've got some good athletes that
- 10:43come out. So do you find that? So I would imagine that some
- 10:48of these sports, so you know, kind of in the off season,
- 10:52like they're not playing with schools, I mean, you know, they can
- 10:54they can kind of continue at the y basically, right, And that's what
- 10:58we get a lot of in the spring is soccer is a fall sport.
- 11:01Football is a fall sport. So they'll come in in the spring and they'll
- 11:07come and you know, be able to train with using our facilities because we
- 11:09allow with each sport, we allow you guys to use our facilities to practice
- 11:16basketball. They're allowed one practice a week in the fall. In the spring
- 11:20with flag football and soccer, that we allow them to come and use our
- 11:24fields all the time. We have people using the facility non stop during the
- 11:28season and it's a great way to get your kid out there. If they
- 11:33are playing a middle school sport and then that middle school age we offer that
- 11:37we offer from five to thirteen years old, it is a perfect place for
- 11:41them to come get that off season training. But also if they're not ready
- 11:46to get to that step of middle school, you know, they're still in
- 11:48that elementary school age, our fall sports or our spring sports are perfect for
- 11:52them. Well and Casey talked about the facilities kind of the wellness works and
- 11:58talk about the facilities that you yep, yeah, so we you know,
- 12:03we have the gym, the basketball gym. It's a I mean, we
- 12:05have six basketball court, well hoops around there. We will run two volleyball
- 12:11courts for our league. And though you know during open gym, we offer
- 12:16a lot of open gym time during the year, well during the day,
- 12:20people just to come play pick up basketball. That's another big staple of ours
- 12:24is the pickup basketball scene is pretty crazy. There's some guys that come and
- 12:30it's not a league. It's that anybody can come do this. Uh,
- 12:33like Casey said, with the guest pass, you can just buy a guest
- 12:37pass, come in, play some basketball for a couple hours, and leave.
- 12:41We I know there's a big group in the mornings that come in pretty
- 12:46much every single morning. They'll play for an hour and a half, have
- 12:50some coffee in the lobby, and then head out. Yeah okay, oh
- 12:52yeah, yeah, it sounds like. And then obviously you have fields on
- 12:54the outside. Yeah, we have fields. We actually do them at our
- 12:58camp, our summer camp, which I'll talk about a little bit. Yeah,
- 13:01Campie Tour. We have two soccer fields out there. We run our
- 13:03flag football field out there. We also offer a Eleanor league for our soccer
- 13:09will. We play those at the the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Anybody's familiar with
- 13:16that, right on the other side of the river yep, other side the
- 13:18river, ye yep. And we actually have a full length soccer field over
- 13:22there that we allow our Eleanor players to come play up. Yeah, okay,
- 13:26so busy schedule, right, very busy, Yeah, versy schedule.
- 13:28Three our numbers three oh four three four five fifty eight fifty eight, three
- 13:33oh four three four five fifty eight fifty eight. And no, that's not
- 13:37Tom neither is that Harvey as you as you turn in on Thursday mornings for
- 13:41a half for a quarter of a century, they've been on the air on
- 13:43Thursday mornings here on five ADWCCHS. But they are in trial today in Cabull
- 13:48County, so we'll hear more about that trial next week. But joining us
- 13:50is that Casey Harpers. He's a wellness director, Jared Bales. He's the
- 13:54youth programs director at the Dumont Tri County Y m C A. N.
- 13:58Scott Depot. And our number nine are open. Three oh four three four
- 14:03five fifty eight fifty eight, three oh four, three four five fifty eight
- 14:07fifty. If you've got a question for either one of those that they can
- 14:09answer, we'll take your college lines or open will take our one and only

- 15:31your side, the power of paying. It's a thirty seven on five eight
- 15:41WCCHS the Voice of Charleston a special guest today in for the patents because they
- 15:46are in trial, and so they've invited folks from the Dumont Tre County YMCA
- 15:50and they are here with us. Casey Harper, the wellness director, Jared
- 15:54Bales, your programs director, and as you can tell, they are full
- 15:56of information here and and so we're going to ask Casey as we come back
- 16:02here. She mentioned it a couple of times. There's day passes, but
- 16:04there are also memberships and that memberships are really good because they offer so much
- 16:11and so talk about that, Casey. So with our memberships, you have
- 16:15the access to the entire building. There are certain programs like Jared Sports where
- 16:19you get a discount for what you're doing with that enrollment, but like you
- 16:25get to come to our classes for free, you get to come to our
- 16:27pool for free, use the basketball gym to play pick up basketball like Jared
- 16:33was talking about. But then like when we have Awqua arthritis classes, we
- 16:37have our sports, we have bootcamp classes that are an extra charge, but
- 16:41you do get a discounted rate with that, so you don't have to pay
- 16:44the full amount like everybody is supposed to do. And We do have a
- 16:48current deal that is going on now through January thirty first, so there's a
- 16:52little bit of time left. It is twenty five percent off the membership through
- 16:56the whole year of twenty twenty four, so then for a full year,
- 17:00once you get that membership, you'll have that twenty five percent off rate of
- 17:03what the original price would have been and then the joining fees only ten dollars
- 17:07instead of what it would have been before. So that's a good deal that
- 17:10we have going on. Yeah, they sounds like a good deal. So
- 17:11you got like next to next Wednesday, yes, to be able to do
- 17:15that. So, you know, and it's always a story that people talk
- 17:18about like New Year's you know, people signing up. Do you see a
- 17:22lot of your memberships, and we do. Our personal training comes up.
- 17:25More people come back to fitness classes, especially after Thanksgiving and Christmas and everybody's
- 17:30kind of like not watching what they're eating and enjoying time with the family,
- 17:32so they're like January first, everybody is ready to get back to it and
- 17:36get back to training with their trainer or come into Grip finness classes and that
- 17:40type of thing. So we are definitely seeing some numbers rise right now in
- 17:42our gym. Yeah, if you would talk about that a little bit,
- 17:45because there's some training going on too. You got some trainers have personal trainers
- 17:48talk about that. Do offer personal training, so we do offer half or
- 17:52hour sessions. We have about one, two, three four personal trainers at
- 17:57the Y. I'm one of them. We will work with you one on
- 18:00one. If there are certain health issues that you're dealing with, any specific
- 18:04injuries, we will work with you directly with those, and then just like
- 18:08trying to help you with whatever your goals are, whether it's losing weight,
- 18:12whether it's gaining muscle, everybody's goals are different. All you have to do
- 18:17is just pop into the Y, fill out a waiver. I'll contact you
- 18:21or sit you with one of our trainers, whether it be me or somebody
- 18:23else they run. Our members get thirty seven dollars for that and that's for
- 18:27an hour, and then for non members it's like I think around fifty seven
- 18:32dollars, so you do get a discount with that, and we are running
- 18:34a special it's ten percent off personal training until the end of February. So
- 18:38if that's something you're interested in, definitely come in get that. Get all
- 18:42the sessions that you want before that's ten percent goes away, and you can
- 18:45buy them in either one session, six sessions, or ten sessions, so
- 18:49you can stack them and save them and use them. And so you do
- 18:55some of that too, Yes, I do. Yeah, what do you
- 18:56like about that? I like working with people one on one. It's fun,
- 19:00you get to know them, you get to like really it's different than
- 19:03so like teaching classes, you are speaking to a lot of people all at
- 19:08once, and then like for me, sometimes I'll see one person I'll want
- 19:12to go over and be like, hey, can I help you with your
- 19:15form? Can like if I see them struggling, And it's hard to do
- 19:18that in a big group fitness setting, but whenever you're with somebody individually,
- 19:22you can really dial in on those certain things that they're having trouble with and
- 19:25they can ask you questions and then you can ask them questions as well,
- 19:29and like they'll ask me advice on stretching, and we can just like kind
- 19:32of spend as much time as we need specifically on what they need. So
- 19:37it's it's more personal. Yeah, personal training, So it's individualized. So
- 19:42for someone it may be you know, you know, they may focus on
- 19:47different things, right, maybe maybe the strength training or maybe the flexibilities you
- 19:52talked about. I have young ones that come in and they just want to
- 19:56like get strong and have fun and get fit. And then I have some
- 19:59that come in and they're hurting and they have their aches and their pains and
- 20:02they just kind of want to find something to help them feel better. And
- 20:06a lot of people don't know this, but strength training actually helps with so
- 20:10many things that you don't think about. You think, oh if I,
- 20:11if I squat is gonna hurt my knees, But squatting actually will help your
- 20:15knees. So doctor say, oh, yeah, squatting is bad for you,
- 20:21but in reality it's good for you to I mean, you have to
- 20:26like kind of go out at agro and pace, but strength training, squatting,
- 20:32those types of things are good for your body. How important is and
- 20:34you mentioned the silver sneakers is very popular, and I've heard this seems like
- 20:41I've heard it several times in the past couple of years about how important flexibility
- 20:45is to older people because if you got to stay moving, gotta stay flexible,
- 20:48all right, gotta stay moving. I tell them all the time,
- 20:51like, if you stop moving, you lose it. And it's so true
- 20:55even myself. The week of Thanksgiving, I was super sick, laid in
- 20:59bed, was lazy, and I have some back issues and I felt it
- 21:04after and when I came back to the gym, I started lifting again and
- 21:08my body felt better. I'm like, oh my gosh. Yeah, and
- 21:11I had to take a bitamone medicine. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Well
- 21:15how did you just see this a personal question here? How did you get
- 21:18into it? So back? It was years ago. I was working at
- 21:23Starbucks and GENC. And when I was at gen C, I was I
- 21:27would try to learn as much as I could about supplements. So I'm like
- 21:30talking to people, I'm learning, I'm googling, I'm youtubing all that type
- 21:33of stuff. And my boyfriend actually was at work with me. He had
- 21:37brought me dinner and he's like, Casey, you know you'd be really good
- 21:41at us and I'm like, nah, I don't think I could do.
- 21:45I can't do personal training yeah, And he's like, no, like you
- 21:48really could. I'm like no. He goes, well, tell me why
- 21:49you can't do it, and then I'll leave you alone. And then I
- 21:52got into personal training got into I worked at a different gym and then I
- 21:57came over to the YMCA absolutely fell in love with the atmosphere. We'll have
- 22:03everybody I work with have great bosses, great atmosphere all together. And when
- 22:07I saw the opportunity for more with the will instructured position, I just pushed
- 22:12for it. And all hard work pays off. Yeah, and there's some
- 22:15personal satisfactions in there too, because you see folks improve, you see folks
- 22:18feel better, those type of things, right, Yeah, they're the silver
- 22:22sneakers. And then even like personal clients that I've had, like them telling
- 22:26you all, hey, I feel great now, like I was hurting,
- 22:30this is what's going on. I'm able to do this and I wasn't able
- 22:33to do it before, and then then thanking you and showing how much they
- 22:37appreciate is really it's it's something you can't even describe the feeling of you actually
- 22:44accomplishing what your dream job would be. How do people So if people want
- 22:48to become members, what's the easiest way to sign up for a membership?
- 22:52You can come in obviously, Yeah, so everything is backed up with paper,
- 22:56So we're still kind of in that stage, like everything's on paper.
- 23:00So coming into the Wide, anytime you come in that we're open, there's
- 23:04always somebody at the front desk and they can help you get set up with
- 23:07a membership, talk to you about different membership options. We do work with
- 23:11some insurance companies. It's like a kind of like a third party. Their
- 23:17insurance works with a third party and we work with them. So like there's
- 23:21the Silver Sinker's option, which is through Tivity Health. There's a Silver and
- 23:25Fit program, but then we also go through renew Active. There's so many
- 23:30different options. So the best thing for I tell everybody almost all the time,
- 23:33call your insurance, see if they pay for it. If they do
- 23:36pay a wellness option on some insurance. Yeah yeah, yeah, so I
- 23:38tell them all the time, contact your insurance, see what they'll pay for.
- 23:41If not, then this is what we have going on. If you
- 23:45know somebody that's already at the Wide, then we do a referral program,
- 23:48so you get a certain percentage off of your membership if you somebody refers you
- 23:52that type of thing. So there's always options, right, it's good.
- 23:55Okay, Yeah, this is a again Casey Harper well as director at the
- 23:59do my Try County y in Scott Depot. Also with us is Jared Bell's
- 24:03youth program direct Programs director and as he mentioned, a lot is going on.
- 24:07So let's talk to you about Jared about some improvements that are taking place
- 24:11not only there but in Scott Depot, but also some other facilities. Yeah.
- 24:15So out at Camp High Tour which on the assistant camp where is that?
- 24:19That is out in Tays Valley, So as you're coming in today's valley
- 24:23from Windfield, it's from the first light on the right. It's called Church
- 24:27Camp Road. We bought it back in the nineties. It used to be
- 24:30an old Baptist church camp. We made some renovations to it. It's been
- 24:34we've been open out there since I believe the first year was nineteen ninety six.
- 24:40So this will also be it'll be my sixth year at camp, my
- 24:44first year as the assistant camp director. If you've ever been doing the camp,
- 24:48you know some of the pool issues we've had, but good news we
- 24:53have are actually putting in a brand new pool. With that, we also
- 24:59have a splash pad for the kids. So this is an awesome opportunity for
- 25:04these kids to just I mean, it's a great opportunity for the kids just
- 25:08to come out there in the summer be a kid, and that I think
- 25:12that's my number one thing when I you know, I tell the staff out
- 25:15there, I always say, just let them be kids. It's their summertime.
- 25:19You know. I remember my core memories in the summertime were you know,
- 25:22playing outside, playing in the woods, doing all that stuff. And
- 25:26that's what we offer. I mean, this it's a true outdoor camp.
- 25:30The kids are rarely inside, maybe inside for thirty minutes to eat lunch.
- 25:33We have a I think we're it's a fifty six acre camp. So we
- 25:37have I mean an abundance of woods that the kids will go hiking in.
- 25:44They build forts. I mean, those kids, there's some future engineers out
- 25:48there because they'll build these crazy big forts and I'm like, how did you
- 25:51do that? And They're like, oh, we just put sticks together.
- 25:53But with that, you know, the renovations going on there. It's a
- 25:57new, brand new pool. It's gonna be as ro entry pull down to
- 26:02five feet. I believe it's gonna be. I mean, it's gonna beautiful.
- 26:06Okay, So those are so what's offer their day camp? Basically,
- 26:08we have a day camp out there. It runs from the first Monday that
- 26:12school ends in Putnam County and it goes until the last basically the last day
- 26:18of summer vacation. Okay, so that's a day camp. So I guess
- 26:22you have some kids, you're there all summer, some culture, just periods
- 26:26of time right now. You can literally if you want your kid to come,
- 26:29and it's five to seventeen ages five to seventeen. We offer a c
- 26:33program, which is a counselor in training for our high school students. The
- 26:37five too. About fourteen our campers in the camp. But if you want
- 26:42to sign your kid up the first day and say hey, I want them
- 26:45to go all summer, you can have them go all summer, pull them
- 26:48out whenever you want. If you want your kid to just come the last
- 26:51day of camp, you can do that too. We're very flexible with that.
- 26:56So, I mean it's a very flexible camp. Come when, please
- 27:00leave when you want. So how do you literally get there? Do they
- 27:03meet it at Scott Depot and you take it. You actually drop them off
- 27:07at the camp out at Church Camp Road. We'll have somebody at that sign
- 27:11out shelter. It's usually the same two people every time. So you actually,
- 27:15I mean the parents build relationships a lot with the with the parent,
- 27:19with the parents and our counselors because we see see them every single day going
- 27:23through the sign out line, sign in line. Tell me also, and
- 27:26again this is a Jared Bales, a youth programs director at the Dumont tre
- 27:30County Y m c A there in Scott Depot talking about some of their programs.
- 27:34So talk about you talked about the renovations there at the camps. What
- 27:37some other things that are happening at in Scott Depot. In the main facility,
- 27:41we have a lot of renovations going on right now. We're getting all
- 27:45the ceiling tile is being replaced, which is it's very small, but when
- 27:51you're in there all the time, it's it looks beautiful. We're doing that.
- 27:55We're getting new flooring, tile, floor all the way through the facility,
- 28:00a new paint on the walls, really just spicing up the facility that
- 28:03we have now and it's gonna absolutely look beautiful. That's good. Now.
- 28:08She talked to Casey talked about how a membership, So what's the best way
- 28:14if you're gonna sign your kid up for something or getting them, get them
- 28:15in one of the programs, or what's the best way you do it.
- 28:18So you can either come in like Casey said, come in, fill out
- 28:21of paper. But we also if you want, once the sport is open,
- 28:26typically you can check Facebook, you can come in and you know,
- 28:30just ask. You can call me at the main y facility phone and just
- 28:34ask, hey, what programs are you offering right now? You can go
- 28:37to our website at Tri County YMCA dot org and you know, sign them
- 28:42up that way. We have links everywhere, QR codes everywhere. Anywhere you
- 28:47see a post, there's typically a QR code to sign up. But that's
- 28:51the I think personally going online and signing up your kid for a sports the
- 28:56easiest way. M HM and Casey, you guys have pretty good Facebook page
- 29:00too, real we do. Yeah, we try to keep everybody updated.
- 29:03Try to if there's a snow day, because like when there's snow days,
- 29:06we can't we have our vacation. It's called a snow day. The kids
- 29:10that aren't in school are at our facility, so then that means like our
- 29:12group and this classes are canceled for the morning. So we keep everything pretty
- 29:19updated as much as we can if there's something going on, just like right
- 29:22now with our renovations, we've posted, Hey, this is what's going on.
- 29:26We have renovations going on. There's so much good stuff to look forward
- 29:30to. Just be patient with us. So we're keeping everybody updated as much
- 29:33as we can. We get phone calls daily. I have my senior years
- 29:37and people asking me every day, Hey, what's going on in the back
- 29:41hallway. So like we're constantly just getting all the information out as much as
- 29:45we can get. We'll talking about some of the renovations then on your part.
- 29:47So the biggest thing for us right now, we had two racketball rooms
- 29:52in our back hallway and they were not being used as much as we had
- 29:57wanted as pickaball. Picking up bracket ball is kind of like dropping off a
- 30:02little bit. So we are taking those two rooms and we are they knock
- 30:06the wall out in the middle of it, and we're making a big multipurpose
- 30:08room. So for me, that is gonna be so we can take some
- 30:12of the open gym time, give it back to the basketball players. We're
- 30:17gonna move a lot of the classes into that room. So we're gonna move
- 30:21our plates, yoga zoomba. All those types of classes, the bigger classes
- 30:26like silver Seekers and string training together will stay in the gym. But then
- 30:30we're also going to be adding a spin class, which is probably my absolute
- 30:33favorite, and then Jared will be able to do some more sports in there
- 30:37so that the open gym, all the basketball players will be able to have
- 30:41their open gym time because we have to share time and space. We are
- 30:45also renovating our locker rooms, getting new lockers, getting new plumbing, getting
- 30:51new toilets, sinks, all the type of stuff. M h okay,
- 30:55sounds like yeah, so very busy, yes, very busy, very busy
- 30:59as some jumping around, oh yeah right, yeah yeah, because of things
- 31:03that happening. It's a fifty three. This is five eighths the voice of
- 31:06Charleston Casey Harper Wellness director Jared Bell's youth programs director with the Dumont Tree County
- 31:11YMCA, with us filling in for the patents today who are actually in trial
- 31:15in Huntington in Cable County Circuit Court. We look forward to hearing about that
- 31:19next week. But Tommy is the president of the board at the YMCA,
- 31:22so he invited Casey and Jared in here today and to talk about some of
- 31:27the things are going on. As you can tell a ton a ton is
- 31:30going on. All right, So you talked about spin class. You like
- 31:33spin class, right, yeah, all right? So are you are you
- 31:37the one on one of your one on are you actually directing the class I
- 31:40will be teaching? Yes. So it was when I first started teaching and
- 31:45training. It was one of those classes I took and I was kind of
- 31:48forced into it at a different gym. It was like, oh hey,
- 31:51this is something that we need you to teach, and I took one of
- 31:53the classes. Absolutely fell in love. It absolutely whips me. But the
- 31:59adrenaline that you get from teaching and just like shouting out cues, it is
- 32:04so much fun. You get a great workout. Okay, so explain with
- 32:07spin classes. Some people might know, but some people. So you're on
- 32:08a stationary bike, right, pretty much pedaling, but you get to put
- 32:14your own spin on it. You can make them go faster, you make
- 32:15them go slower, you can. We have there's gonna be a dial to
- 32:20turn the resistance up. So my favorite thing to do is climb. So
- 32:23you tell them you turn that thing up. You go a little bit turn
- 32:27it up, turn it up, and they're like, oh my gosh,
- 32:29and you're going to the point where you're like barely being able to pedal and
- 32:31you get a great leg workout and get a good sweat. It's just all
- 32:35around. So are you. I'm trying to imagine what because I've been pie
- 32:38spin rings before. Right here, the instructor like, come on, carram
- 32:43In. That's where I probably come out the most with teaching. Like with
- 32:50the with the silver sinkers, you're trying to be more preventive and careful and
- 32:54making sure that the form's right. But with spin it's like fun and you
- 32:59can kind of do more and you have more of a flexibility to do more.
- 33:08How do I say it? Just more drvedgized Like hovers, you get
- 33:15to you get to just push people more. And I've been in classes where
- 33:20the room's dark so you don't feel like vulnerable, like you're out in the
- 33:23open sweat and people are just looking at you. Like I've been in classes
- 33:27where the lights are out. I've been in classes where they have strobe lights
- 33:30in there and it's just kind of crazy and fun. That's what I'm hoping
- 33:35to bring to the wine. I hope people come out and enjoy that.
- 33:37Okay, So that'll be in that new area once that room is open,
- 33:42once the bikes are ordered, that's gonna be one of the first things that
- 33:45we get going on in the area. Souse. Those are popular, right
- 33:47thing, Yes, they are very popular. Yeah, there's been classes.
- 33:51Okay, Well that's great, all right. So so you mentioned the programs
- 33:54and different things that are happening and the renovation. So the best what is
- 34:00the best way then the folks can if they want more information? The best
- 34:04way is the best thing they can do. If you guys are interested in
- 34:06getting a membership, come on down. We will give you a tour,
- 34:09take you through the whole facility, show you everything that we have to offer.
- 34:13Answer any questions. We are posting as much as we can, Like
- 34:16when we got our new equipment in the wellness center, we posted that we
- 34:20got like the new leg press and we got a news because like it's dusty
- 34:22and there's construction going around everywhere, but we are the Facebook. When things
- 34:30start to open up and classes get going, is the best place to find
- 34:32us at Now are there rooms available to just for other events? Sometimes?
- 34:38So we do parties and what we do. So those take place Friday,
- 34:45Saturday and Sunday after we close, and they can I think it's up to
- 34:47two hours that they can rent the building for. And they can either rent
- 34:52the gymnasium for like a basketball party, or they can rent the pool.
- 34:55And what we do is that back hallway that we have currently, we tables
- 35:00up. They can bring in cake, pizza, whatever they want. They
- 35:02just can't have it in the gym in the pool area for obvious reasons.
- 35:07But then once that new multipurpose room is opened, that room is going to
- 35:10open up as another that's gonna be another purpose. It'll be a party room
- 35:15as well. Okay, great, Now I know that Tom Peyton plays indoor
- 35:19soccer, So does anybody knows any good? I don't know. We might
- 35:27have got that, actually, I think he's pretty good. Might have to
- 35:30stop it on soccer practice one evening. Yeah, I think it's like I
- 35:32think you had the adult I think he plays on maybe Wednesday evenings. Is
- 35:36that right? Would that be right? Maybe? I don't. I don't
- 35:38know. We don't offer an adult indoor lea our facility. But just to
- 35:43add on a little bit before we go off, we are offering a couple
- 35:46new sport programs and I really haven't even posted about this on the Facebook.
- 35:52This will be like the first time. We will start beginning to offer our
- 35:55Challenger League back up that's for the special needs community, and that's no charge
- 36:01to them, member or not, there's no charge for that. They can
- 36:06come in. We're gonna be starting with basketball here in the spring. With
- 36:09that in the spring, we're also opening up an adult flag football league,
- 36:15which that is currently exploding now that it's coming into the Olympics in twenty twenty
- 36:19eight. We'll be starting that in the spring and just watch watch on watch
- 36:24on Facebook. Registration will open. I honestly haven't posted anything about that yet,
- 36:29so it'd be the first time. Okay, that's great, that's great,
- 36:31all right. So h So, as we always end of the Payton
- 36:34Show, just again give us Casey the location my phone number place to get
- 36:40the end. So we are located off of the Scott Depot or Tes Valley
