[upbeat rock music] Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
• 0:20
Sven here, Full Spectrum Cycling podcast number 32. [evil laugh] Post-Halloween edition. [evil laugh] Got JK. Hello. And Mr. Tony Berger. Hola.
• 0:35
Just, just 24 hours till the Gran Fonduro fun- Oh, yeah... begins. Yeah, I, I, I, I- Give or take. I'm so stoked. I, I, I, I twiddle my thumbs on it a little bit, but pull the trigger. Lake View. Yeah. There you go.
• 0:53
Lake View, baby. You've gotta do Lake View. Yep, me too. Yeah. And I can't believe my wife's gonna ride a fat bike for the first time. That's awesome. It'll be awesome.
• 1:01
A beautiful blue- Please take pictures if you see it... Schlick Cycles fat bike. Yep. Yep. Yeah, yeah, so, uh, I'm gonna go down Friday, tonight- Nice... to be there. Oh, nice. And then, uh, be there two days.
• 1:15
Is, uh- Three days-ish... I had to beat them up for that second night. They didn't wanna do the- Deal... fantastic deal. It's not too late, folks. Still a good deal.
• 1:25
If you decide at the very, very last minute to go down there, they still have a couple of rooms left at the fantastic rate of 115 a night. Exactly. Well- On the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan.
• 1:35
And it- You mentioned- Pretty much the only beach left on Lake Michigan right now [laughs] At least on this side, yeah. You mentioned fatbike.com/zioncyclery Gran Fonduro. I don't know. I, I was saying a lot of words.
• 1:49
Lots, lots of words. Lot of expressions. And as a person on the fern... On the fern? On the phone. And [laughs] like, "Uh, oh yeah, I think I know what you're talking about."
• 1:56
Then you can be all compartmentalized so we don't wreak too much havoc on the overlook hotel. Oh, there will be havoc wreaking going on. I think so. Well, yeah, but- It shall be fun.
• 2:07
I went down there last Sunday to do a little cleanup on the beach, and at... There was very little, very little garbage left. I think the- That's awesome. They do it, like-...
• 2:16
summer's worth of cleaning has been going pretty well. Yeah, they do it, like, once a month, don't they? Uh, yeah, I think so. We- Some, somewhere in that... we did at least... I was on one other one this past summer.
• 2:27
The question being- I gotta reread the route again too for this... did you stop at White Castle- I, I-... on the way to Orofino?... did not. I stopped at- Heathen...
• 2:37
I stopped at the [laughs] I stopped at the Bristol, in Bristol, Wisconsin, at the 45 Diner, which was kickass. Really? [laughs] That sounds pretty cool. Yeah. It was very good. Diner food. Well, I'm just being jealous.
• 2:50
I- So that day was-... selfish... uh, started, started at 6:00 in the morning, went out to Waterloo for the last NICA race of the season for- Mm... my boy,
• 3:00
for my boy to do his mountain bike racing and then, uh, went from there down to Zion via the... It was faster to come back to Milwaukee and go down, but I didn't like that idea, so I went on the diagonal.
• 3:12
[laughs] That's a cool ride. Yeah. Yeah. You see some towns I don't get to very often. You have to deal with all that mega construction. I think most of it I bypassed, 'cause I ended up going down Highway 12.
• 3:22
But [clears throat] anyway, it was a good drive, and get some time to think in my brain area a little bit. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I can't wait. I am super stoked about that.
• 3:35
We could spend the entire podcast just getting excited about that. Getting excited. Oh, yeah, yeah.
• 3:38
And it's- Well, it, uh, the thing about that, uh, hotel is that I never thought it was actually in service any time I went on any Zion ride. I'm not sure that it was for part of that time. It could... Okay. All right.
• 3:55
So I, I- So I'm not losing my mind on that. It could be. Right. And it has been remodeled. Yeah. So it may have been at some point shut down. It looked a little overgrown at, at a point. Yeah.
• 4:03
And it was like, "Wow, look at the creepy hotel. That's awesome." Creepy. Well, they have all the- I'd like to go play in there. Yeah. And now, now I'm hitting the table. Yes, you are. If we have a chance.
• 4:16
Well, they have, when you go north of there, they have all those kind of atomic era looking little- Yeah... shade things and- To hold, uh, uh, boats, like, uh- Is that what they were for?... life- life- lifeguard boats.
• 4:28
Oh, I didn't know. I guess. I don't know. And there used to be an atomic nuclear ass power plant down there too- It's creepy... but it's gone now. I think all that's left is the waste. Yeah, I was gonna say.
• 4:37
The building slips on. But the building is gone. [laughs] Is that down by Gregg River? Does anybody ride with a Geiger counter? Gregg River wasn't there.
• 4:43
[laughs] It's now Gregg Lake again, or Sven Lake, whatever you wanna call it. [laughs] Yikes.
• 4:49
But the restricted sign is sticking up right in the middle of the freaking, so you're not, you can't go past that sign- Yeah... lest we get yelled at by the- PO-PO...
• 4:57
the, uh, Illinois Department of Natural Resources there. Oh, you gotta go further and get hassled by the feds. Hassled by the man, man. Yeah, man. Well, there'll be plenty of- Bing... plenty of riding to do.
• 5:10
The beach was in decent shape. Right on. Right on. It's supposed to get hammered, uh, last night. [laughs] [laughs] Thursday night it's supposed to- Sure...
• 5:20
supposed to get, uh, some easterly wave action, but, uh, it was, it was big and beautiful. Right on. So. Yeah. It's gonna be a, it's gonna be a jam. Jam, jam, jam.
• 5:32
Probably gonna do some sort of podcasting from down there. I'll bring the rig, man. Right on, man. We'll figure out something. We're gonna have dueling podcasts. [singing] Speaking of dueling podcast, is Spinner coming?
• 5:45
I would be surprised if he didn't. Yeah. But who knows? Yeah. I haven't seen the guest list. Spinner, we're talking to you, man. You should call in. There's probably a way for me to look that up on the book face.
• 5:54
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. If somebody wanted to call in, what would they do? They would dial 717-727-2453. That spells spike. That rhymes with Mike Remember that, uh, rumble cross thing we were talking about? Yeah.
• 6:09
Not so much now. Didn't happen. Not at all. What's- That's pretty hard to throw together pretty quickly...
• 6:13
well, then I think the powers that be there were, uh, the facility manager was all for it, and then kind of ran it up the chain of command, and somewhere along the way it got- Somebody got twitchy... somewhat of a,
• 6:24
yeah, some sort of a knot- Twitch... kind of an idea Twitch. There's a new plan afoot for fat bike races at Sprecker, though, which has a ton of room. Yeah, it does. Yeah, yeah. So, and, uh, Mr.
• 6:35
Man- And yeah, I missed a, a call from Sir Zito yesterday... he was, or is, trying to get something going for another jungle cross, uh, right after the Thanksgiving weekend- Mm-hmm...
• 6:45
which has been a traditional jungle cross time of year. We got a couple spots to look at. One pretty close to the last event, but across the railroad tracks. Oh.
• 6:57
The other one, I don't know, we're gonna go back under the freeway. Yeah, and I was- Which was a great spot... I was going to the Home Depot the other day and saw like
• 7:07
16 dirt bikers rip out of that area [laughs] that we were once mountain biking at. Yeah, right, yeah. He, he, he must've been down there, 'cause I saw a picture- Yeah... with a, he was by a bermed out spot, so.
• 7:15
Yep, yep, yep. Him. Yeah, they, they definitely, these were definitely not street legal motorcycles, but there was like, yeah, th- I wanna say like 15 of them, two strokers. Yep.
• 7:27
[imitates engine revving] Well, you can get in and out of there a bunch of different ways. So if the po-po coming, you, you can make like a tree and get out of there. Right. Exactly.
• 7:36
Just don't enter through the way where the no trespassing sign is [laughs]. Ta-da. So as- Motor vehicles is the way you go in. Okay, this is not a motor vehicle. Ta-da. Ta-da. Is this- Ta-da...
• 7:52
so is it kerfuffle day here on, uh, the old, uh- Oh, yeah... full spectrum cycling show? The air is coming out of every balloon. [imitates air hissing] Well, cycling oriented kerfuffle. Yeah.
• 8:06
The, the, the team that had been doing RAGBRAI for years out of the Des Moines Register resigned or quit or summarily- Yeah...
• 8:13
left, and have come up with a new RAGBRAI, but called Iowa's Ride Now, on the same week as RAGBRAI. Yeah. Huh. I don't know what to think about that yet. Yeah, I need to find out more information.
• 8:25
But that's, that's either a total douche move- Well, these are the guys that had been doing it for so long. Right.
• 8:31
And I, I called Randy Dixon, who's one of the guys I know that's done it as long as anybody, probably most of them if not all of them, and he was a little...
• 8:41
He knows, he knows the team that does it, and was like, "I gotta get more information on this." [laughs] So hopefully we're gonna have- Nice...
• 8:48
a conversation with him or Kim West or somebody that's been doing this for a long time and has some insight and, uh, some opinions on it. 'Cause I know people have opinions.
• 8:58
So here's the deal, though, and this is what Randy said that I thought was actually the, the, the crux of the matter, "Riding across Iowa at the end of July is great, no matter what." [laughs] So.
• 9:09
That's right, Randy boy. And, and it- Randy...
• 9:11
ex- except for the years that I was in the distribution side of the cycling trade where I serviced the, uh, people who service the cyclists by providing product and hanging out at their booths when they needed to go to the bathroom- Oh, boy...
• 9:24
I never paid to go on RAGBRAI. I just rode my bike on a public road. Right. So I didn't have to deal with the, uh, authority. But maybe some people like doing that.
• 9:37
I think, you know, they have a 10,000 rider limit, and there's 20,000 people on there, so- Oh... at any given time- There you go... half the people are- Not-... just out for a ride with, with their buddies.
• 9:48
But, uh, it's a great thing. I'd, I'd... You know, it's, it's unfortunately right the same week here as, uh, the River West 24. That's right.
• 9:56
But, you know, maybe go do three, four days for little training rides, and then, uh, you'll be all bulked up for the 24. Yeah, or dead tired. [laughs] You know? Yeah.
• 10:07
I just sat in a car for five hours, now I can't ride my bike. Yep. There is that side too. Well, we'll find out more about that as it, uh, progresses. Sounds. So, uh, hmm. Oh, yep. [bell ringing] Top of the hill.
• 10:22
Top of the hill. Top of the hill, folks. Top of the hill. JK, uh, brought some beer in here today. Thanks for making the beer run, JK. Yeah. Right? Extra surly. Surly extra- Extra citra...
• 10:37
Surly, Surly extra citra pale ale. Yeah. Yes. It's a modest 4.5% alcohol by volume. Yeah, you could burn some of it. So you can, uh, suck some down pretty good. It's very tasty.
• 10:49
Uh, it is very good, and hopefully available again. It seemed like they didn't know it was there [laughs] right? Yeah. Well, it was in... Yeah, I... Like, go find something IPA-ish. Okay. And it... Yes, I was...
• 11:07
You know, we're going to dovetail into the founders. Yeah, 'cause all that- But I was like-... all that would've been our choice, but-...
• 11:13
yo, I, I was staring right at it, and then all of a sudden I'm like, "Is that Surly?" I'm like, "Dude, they make 12 packs?
• 11:19
I've never s- This is the first time I've ever seen a fricking 12 pack of Surly in Milwaukee ever." Works for me. It's not too burpy. Just saying. It's tasty.
• 11:29
Got- I'm just happy about the distribution, and that both Surly bikes and Surly Brewing figured out- While, while, while not the same, are similar [laughs]... figured out that they're- Very close... they're like, yeah.
• 11:42
I think they got snarly at one point, and went, went, "Hey, hey, hey. My name, your name, my name, my name. I went first," and, or something like that. Oh, I guess...
• 11:50
See, that would've been a 10 year ago or more, whatever that was- Yeah... kind of a- Yeah, but then they kinda figured out beer- That would've been a kerfuffle for the olden days. Yeah. Well, it's kerfuffle day.
• 11:58
So they figured out beers and bikes, they- Yeah... hang out together. They're the same thing. So no worries. There's the same amount of letters in both beer and bike, beers and bikes Beercycle bicycle. Mm-hmm.
• 12:12
So, yeah, we would probably have foundered it, but, uh, apparently- That's why, that's why I-... we're not... that's why I would say that motorcycles should be called mikers- [laughs]... and bicyclists are bikers.
• 12:24
I like that. I like that. So. Mikers. Yeah. Mikers. Just saying. All right. So we have- Well declared anyway... what have we learned about this Founders, Kurf Leffel? Well, it sounds like they're
• 12:36
in a lawsuit regarding some sort of, uh- Allegation- Yeah... uh, by an former employee about non-promotion Because allegedly of his- Somebody's-... race. Yeah. Yeah. Color of his skin. Yeah.
• 12:55
Well, we don't have all the information on this yet, but I can tell you it is affecting stuff. There was a bar here out in West Allis, Wisconsin there- Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah, yeah...
• 13:04
that, uh, was giving away all of the Founders they had because he wasn't gonna sell it anymore because of this thing. Who's that? Um- Drunk Uncle. Dun- dun- yeah, Drunk Uncle in West Allis.
• 13:15
Stalaga- That's, you know, I mean, it'll be interesting to see if this, you know, how this plays out. Yeah, indeed.
• 13:23
You know, I have also seen on social media a number of people who have decided they'll no longer drink a Founders product, and- Well, same thing with, uh- But Founders, Founders makes a damn good beer. Yeah.
• 13:31
Yeah, and- The same thing with, uh, Ballast Point. Ballast Point, and they sold out for, what was it, $1 billion? Of course they're gonna take a billion- I, so that would be-... fucking dollars...
• 13:42
that would definitely be a reason for me not to, like Lagunitas did that with Budweiser, and like- Yeah. I'm not gonna drink that anymore- Exactly... even though it's still a good beer. But I loved Ballast Point.
• 13:51
Yeah, it's- They, ooh, their grape- I agree with both, you know... grapefruit Sculpin was goddamn good.
• 13:55
There were a couple of- [laughs] There's a, there's a number of breweries that are like that that are getting eaten up by- Well, when the money comes-... bigger venture... I, I wouldn't turn down a billion.
• 14:03
[laughs] That's what I'm saying. I, I, I, I'm not- You know-... faulting any human on this. You know, and that wasn't a very old brewery. No, no. I mean, what do you think- No, no... Lakefront's worth? Oh. Money.
• 14:13
You know, a regional brewery. Yeah. That, that's- That's what Wolf- And somebody's gonna come to Russ and be like- Yeah, but they have half a moat already...
• 14:20
he, he has, he has said no- He's got, he's got his castle almost moving... he's turned down a number of, from what I've heard- [laughs]... very lucrative offers. Oh, I'm sure. Oh, my God. You know?
• 14:28
But eventually someone's gonna come to that man and just give him a number that he's gonna likely poop himself- Yeah... and have to take it. Or, and timing of life and s- scenario. I'm, I mean, all right.
• 14:39
I still think the number is gonna be poop worthy. Poop worthy. Oh, shit, of course, yes. See, like I, yeah. I am, I am, I'm waiting to see what happens with this Founders thing. I- Yeah...
• 14:48
I tend to not like how social media blows stuff out of proportion, even though this may be a proportion-blowing situation.
• 14:58
Uh, there's too many instances where just people jump on the train without all the knowledge, and they can ruin a business, and it's happened here in Milwaukee before. So- Yeah. Yeah...
• 15:08
folks, uh, learn all about it, make your decisions, buy Founders or don't. Um- Read, consume...
• 15:14
but, but leave some, leave, leave a comment and say, uh, "I am going to drink it because," or, "I am not because," if you feel like it. Yeah. Speaking of because. [burps] [laughs] Just because. Okay. [laughs] Well. Hey.
• 15:30
Wel- welcome to the radio program, caller. Yeah, hello, it's Big Sexy. Big Sexy. There he is. Big Sexy on the line. Yeah, well guess where I, guess where I am. I'm in Jacksonville, Florida. Whoa. Nice room.
• 15:47
He's only in my left ear for some reason. Yeah, it's only in my left ear as well. That's weird, huh. Maybe- You're in mono... I might have to do a setting change in the old- Hey... call-in studio web interface.
• 15:59
I've, I've got a thing for left ears, actually. Say that again? Oh, for left ears. I said I've got a thing... I, I, I was, I was kidding. Right on. Um, hey, so, uh, so I just, I just got, uh, Heather all tuned up.
• 16:16
I, I, uh, uh, was fortunate enough to get a kick-down from a gentleman that didn't leave his name, but he said, "Hey." He, he, he, he talked to me about God and Jesus for a minute, but, uh- [laughs]...
• 16:28
he gave me 50 bucks, so I'm like, "Well, you know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna go to the nearest bike shop and, and get Heather, take Heather to the, to the, to the doctor." Sweet.
• 16:40
And, uh, boy, did he true my wheel up and he, he, he, and, uh, replaced a couple spokes, and we're doing good. How are you guys doing? Good. We're just, uh, talking Kurf Leffel stuff this week.
• 16:55
There's been a few things out there in the news that made us go, "Hmm." [grunts] But, uh- Yeah...
• 17:03
hey, one, one thing I want- Well, I mean, it- One thing I wanted to ask you about your bike, because I saw the pictures you sent today, um, your fender- Yeah...
• 17:11
your fender modification, was that because of the big rack you got, the big basket? Right. Well, and the, the, well, the thing with the fenders is, is that, um,
• 17:22
the, the fenders were getting in the way and, and like, and, and bending and, and [laughs]... rubbing against the wheel. So I was like, "You know what? Screw this."
• 17:31
I took the fenders off of the wheels and I put them on the basket, and now I zip-tie them to the basket. Yeah, they're kind of- And they, they-... look like they're meant to be there...
• 17:40
stay right there and I, I still got my reflectors. Huh? I zip-tied a washer to the basket. Basket. [laughs] What the hell are you talking about? [laughs] Silence of the Lambs, I heard the basket. Ah.
• 17:54
Oh, dude, it's all about, it's all about the basket. Right, right. Just saying. Yeah, for sure. So you made it as far as- That, that- You made it as far as Florida, right? Mm-hmm. Florida's my 20th state. Wow. Wow.
• 18:10
That's awesome, dude. 20th state. That's impressive. Yeah. Um- Well, I, li- li- literally Georgia was my 19th state and, uh, everybody's like, "Why aren't you going to Atlanta? Atlanta's the capital."
• 18:23
I'm like, "Because, I'm sorry, expletive Atlanta." [laughs] I'm not doing it. That, uh, you know, this is not a- No... a PG radio show. You can say whatever the hell you want. Expletive. Oh, okay, okay, so fuck Atlanta.
• 18:39
Exactly. I was waiting for that. That's Atlanta. And, and, and, and check it, check it out. I, I've, I've been say, I've been saying this for years. You're gonna, you give me a presidential suite,
• 18:51
all expenses, booze, and food, and everything, all expenses paid, 50 yard line tickets to the Saints versus the Falcons Monday Night Football, and I probably, my first reaction would be, "No. No thank you." Yep.
• 19:09
But then- But I don't mind, I don't mind transferring to Atlanta because we can have a smoke there. All right. Oh, indoor? No, at the airport. The air- the, the airport's the only, the only Atlanta I've ever done.
• 19:27
And there's a Taco Bell at the Atlanta airport, but you have to have a long layover to get there. Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah, there's another Taco joint there too.
• 19:37
Yeah, no, yeah, like- I forget what it's called, but it's like, uh, not Del Mundo. Yeah, yeah, no, no, but it's not Taco Bell. Nope. No, it's a, it's a good taco place. [laughs] Yeah, I know, but it's not Taco Bell.
• 19:49
Yeah. [laughs] So, r- right, no, uh, I, I wanna, I wanna tell you guys about, um, uh, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and trust me,
• 20:01
I went to a couple bike shops there, because I was, hm, again, having trouble with my right wheel.
• 20:07
I had to have a couple spokes replaced and, and they, and they took really good care of me in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. And, uh, and I, um, I was just happened to, uh, former bartender turned mother
• 20:25
put me up for a couple days and I, I, I just felt spoiled rotten in Myr- Myrtle Beach. I was like, I was like, "Oh, I'm, I'm king of the world right here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina." That sounds pretty fun. Yeah.
• 20:38
Well, yeah, yeah, no, and, and, and these, these guys are like, "Wow, I can't believe you've been to 18 states and, and all the capitals and blah, blah."
• 20:47
Like, like, like, "I can't believe you've done this on, on, on this, on this machine." I'm like, "Yeah, well, are you talking shit about Heather or, or, or are you just saying that you can't believe I did that?"
• 20:58
[laughs] Because, because, because Hea- Heather, Heather is like, she's got an attitude, man.
• 21:06
She, and, and, and then my, like my, uh, virtual sister, like not blood, but r- like, you know, like we, we've been, we've been family for years. Um, her father is like, "You know what?
• 21:21
I'm not letting you leave Myrtle Beach without, with them tires. I'm gonna go buy you three brand new tires at Walmart." I'm like, "Okay." And he, he went and bought me three brand new tires from Walmart.
• 21:32
[laughs] They're, they're a little bit, they're a little bit thinner, so it doesn't, and she, she doesn't look, she doesn't look so thick.
• 21:39
[laughs] I mean, and I won- I wonder, I wonder if we would've made it over that bridge in New Jersey with those tires instead of, instead of the ones that we had on. Oh, yeah. You'd be amazed.
• 21:50
I don't think I told you about the, uh, I don't think I told you about that. It's like she was a little too fat. Heather was a little too fat to, to, to go on the walkway over this bridge in New Jersey,
• 22:03
so we had to take the highway, and we al- we almost got splattered a couple times. Oh, man. And, and, and like, I'm like- Man... "Goddammit, why, why couldn't you be like an inch and a half fucking thinner?
• 22:13
'Cause we, then we could've just taken the sidewalk." [laughs] Right. Did, now, now do you think it would fit with these new tires? Do you think she would fit?
• 22:22
Um, I'm, I'm wondering, I'm wondering, and she looks a lot thinner with the new tires. Have you noticed any speed increase? Um, I've noticed that when I stop somewhere and I need her to stay still, she doesn't want to.
• 22:36
Ah. [laughs] Does it roll smoother when you coast?
• 22:39
Like, like, you know, like, like, like, like with the, with the, with the old, with the, with the slim tires, she was like more flat and like, and like low to the ground and like, but these, these ones, she's like, she...
• 22:52
And oh, I c- I cannot let go of the handlebars. I have to have at least a finger on the handlebars or she goes bonkers. Well, I think that's kind of a good idea all the time anyway.
• 23:04
[laughs] Well, yeah, of course, but like when I'm reaching for a beer or something- Attention. Attention... I'm like, I'm like, "Okay." I want your attention. [laughs] I'm like, "Ho- hold on a second.
• 23:13
I'm just gonna let go for a second." Yeah. And then she's g- No... like literally like- I think that's a- She starts bouncing all over the place... I think that's a characteristic of a trike in general, though.
• 23:26
Right, right. The, the, yeah, the... But for, for, for th- for this, um, uh, podcast thing, Heather just doesn't like it when I don't hold on to her. Ah. [laughs] Well, you always hang on to Heather then. Oh, yeah.
• 23:39
Excuse me. I'll tell, I'll tell you what. Like a- after 20 states in four months, we're, uh, like we're peas in a pod. Yeah, you're tight. Um,
• 23:48
there, there's a little, there's a little place, I'm, I'm going to New Orleans. I told you guys all that.
• 23:52
I'm, I'm, I'm eventually gonna end up in New Orleans, and there's a little place, a little chapel of love in the French Quarter, and I know the guy. His name's Reverend Tony. I'm gonna have, I'm gonna have him marry us.

• 24:54
My phone went dead, so I, uh, did the office space thing with her last night and I just, like, smashed her into oblivion. I'm like, all right.
• 25:02
I threw her in the ocean and said, "Okay, that's where you are for the rest of my life." [laughs] So I got a new phone. Doesn't really, like, it, it's, it's still trying to fit in with the whole family, you know. Nice.
• 25:15
[laughs] Mike w- Mike, Mike is snorting over there for some reason. [laughs] He has to walk away from his mic due to snortage. Doing to, doing to laughing and snorting. So how long are you in Florida for?
• 25:30

• 27:03
There's a, there's a pretty great story about the, uh, well, great or take it for what it's worth, but the, the CEO of Johnson Controls apparently
• 27:13
cheated on his wife with his secretary, and his wife retaliated by taking a shotgun to his Star Wars model collection. Oh, n- no. Oh my God. And destroyed the whole thing with a shotgun.
• 27:28
We, we, shoot, shoot me, shoot me in the dick instead, please. [laughs] Don't kill my Star Wars collection. Shoot me in the dick. [laughs] Should be a T-shirt. [laughs] Right.
• 27:43
They could sell that right at the theme park there. Yeah, no kidding.
• 27:46
[laughs] Well, and, but, uh, I gotta tell you guys one, one more thing, that, um, Amber, my, my, my New Orleans sister that lives in Myrtle Beach, she took me to the Simpsons 4D experience. Um- Nice...
• 27:58
and that wa- that was pretty sweet. And I'm a huge Simpsons fan. Right. And, um, the c- the comic book guy, um, um, makes, makes a little appearance.
• 28:09
Um, blah, blah, but, um, but the, o- one of my favorite, o- one of my favorite comic book guy bits is, like, is, his, um, his, uh, bumper sticker says, "My other car is a Millennium Falcon." Yep. Excellent.
• 28:23
I was trying to get a, uh, vanity plate saying Slave Two. Oh. Right, yeah. Or Slave One, which is Boba Fett's, and da, da, da, but- Oh, yeah. He-... I think, I think it would be kinda, eh- Yeah. Since they-...
• 28:36
culturally insensitive to have Slave- We might have another Kerfuffle... you know, another Kerfuffle. Since I, since I don't know anything about Star Wa- uh, Star Wars, I would just- You never watched a Star...
• 28:46
Here, here's a dollar. I would just like to say- Go, go s- go watch yourself some Star Wars... instead, Big Sexy, I'd like to just say I'm not not licking toads. [laughs] Right, right, right, right.
• 28:56
Don't cheer a hypno toad, though. No, I'm not. I'm, like, I'm, I'm... Uh, and my, my brother was asking me that a couple times. He, "Hey, have you been drinking Jagermeister?"
• 29:05
I'd be like, "No, I, well, um, I've not not been drinking Jagermeister." [laughs] It's the greatest line. Yep. That and the Johnny Cash episode of Find Your Soulmate, Homer. Man, I love The Simpsons. Oh, yeah, yeah.
• 29:21
He's like, "Wait, wait. Oh, so the, the, the, the big, the big mountain was just the pro shop and the talking dog was just a talking dog." [laughs] Right on, dude. So, uh, thanks for giving us a shout.
• 29:39

• 29:44
Um, um, well, I, I still gotta do Tallahassee, and, um, I just found out from a friend that she's by the Tennessee border, and if the weather looks right I might cruise up to Montgomery and get another capital under my belt.
• 29:58
Nice. Sounds good. That's a good capital to visit. I've got eight, 18 so far, and well, ev- well, I got, I think I have a sign on the back of my bike that said, you know, Tallahassee's the one that's not crossed off.
• 30:10
I'm gonna, I'm gonna replace the sign, but Tallahassee's the one that's not crossed off. And they're, "You're going the wrong way to Tallahassee." I'm like, "No, no, it's, it's 90 miles off of Miami, right?" Yeah.
• 30:22
[laughs] And they're like, they're like, "No." Not quite. I'm like, "I'm just kidding. I know where Tallahassee is. I'm killing some time. I wanna spend Thanksgiving with my mother, for God's sakes."
• 30:32
Three lefts to make a right. Yep. Fuck off. [laughs] Yep.
• 30:36
Well, and, but, and, and if you, if you follow my, if you follow my journey between, uh, between Columbia and Tallahassee it's, it's, uh, it's not that big a distance, but it's gonna take me the most time because of timing for holidays and shit like that.
• 30:53
Right, right. Sounds good. You got this well planned out, sir. Yeah. Cool. Dude, I, I'm... Uh, you know what? I- in, in, when I, when I first started out I was a fucking amateur, and now n- n- I'm an old pro, dude.
• 31:08
I, all, all I gotta do is sit outside a gas station for a couple seconds, boom, I got a pack of cigarettes. Boom, I got a fucking sandwich. What, what... You know, I'm, I'm just- [laughs]...
• 31:18
I'm, I'm just, I'm just cruising. Nice. Right on, right on. Well, have a good Thanksgiving if we don't talk to you before then. Yeah. Happy holidays. You know what?
• 31:27

• 31:42
The, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving? The Wednesday of shit. Probably. Probably. Probably. All right. Yeah. Well, I'll, I'll give you a call on Tanksgiving. Sounds good. That's perfect.
• 31:53
From, from, uh, from Tarpon Springs, Florida. All right. When I, I'll be drinking ouzo, so you never know what I'm gonna say. [laughs] Oh. [laughs] Nice. It'll be, it'll be worth it just for the call. Opa, opa, opa.
• 32:05
Yeah. We're going. [laughs] Oh, yeah. No, no. We'll, we'll, we'll do, we'll do an opa on the air if you want. Yeah, yeah. On air opa. I, I know a place. We might have ouzo in the studio.
• 32:15
We might have to have some ouzo in the studio. Ouzo in the studio. And oop, boom. [laughs] No, it's always a pleasure talking to you guys, and, and, and thank, thank you so much.
• 32:24
Hey, look, um, I got, I really gotta shout out to Fernandina Cycling and Fitness Center right there in Fernandina Beach, Florida. They just put me up huge. Awesome. Great.
• 32:34
We'll have to do- So I, I, I mean, I, I don't know- We'll, we'll plug their website... if, if you're ever bicycling through Florida. Check, check them out. Right on. All right. Have a good one, man.
• 32:45
May, may the force be with you. Talk to you soon. All right. Y'all take it easy, now. Peace. Yeah. Can I keep on listening? Enjoy. Is that cool, or...? Yeah, yeah. You can totally keep listening. Sure. Go, go ahead.
• 32:53
You can keep listening. All right. Right. Blather. Awesome. Talk to you soon. Y'all have fun, now. All right. Bye. You know? And- Big Sexy, ladies and gentlemen... while we're talking, um- All the way from Florida...
• 33:05
a customer that came in, uh, Travis, uh, Banguard came in yesterday. He, uh, learned about us from the, uh, Fat Tuesday event back at Ray's years ago, and lear- learned about fat bikes there.
• 33:22
He came in yesterday and bought a rack, and he's gonna do, this weekend instead of going where the coolness is gonna happen in Zion, Illinois- At the Funduro...
• 33:31
him and his buddies are going for about a 200-mile ride, mostly gravel, like 90% gravel, beer and cheese country. Uh, they're leaving from Cambridge, uh, the Blue Mound State Park Friday.
• 33:44
Cambridge, isn't that the home of, uh, some NASCAR driver we know? Hmm. I don't know any NASCAR drivers personally. [laughs] Dick, Dick Trickle? No. [laughs] Uh... That's State Fair Park in- Yeah...
• 33:54
it's no VD But yeah, they're gonna go- Dick Trickle. No... uh, down to New Glarus, uh- Matt Kenseth... and then back home. Uh- There's some beautiful riding around New Glarus... should be beautiful.
• 34:05
It's light snow potential. You know, they're... And, like, the reason he came in to get the rack was that he was gonna ride his gravel bike, and all his buddies are like, "Well, we're gonna ride our fat bikes." Cool.
• 34:14
So he's like, "Well, I gotta ride a fat bike, too." Yeah, yeah. So he's gonna take his Farley out and, and bust 200 miles on his Farley this weekend. Chuck your Farley. Yeah. So shout out to him.
• 34:22
That sounds like it's gonna be a great weekend for all around. We need pictures. Uh, he's gonna send pictures, and we will include them in the site. Someday. Maybe. Show notes. Thanks, Travis. You're a cool cat.
• 34:34
Sometimes. You're a cool cat. Yeah. What else happened here at the shop? Hey, one of our, uh, Bailey Works bags made a, a glorious exit from the door with a gentleman that thought that was the kick-assest...
• 34:46
The big citizen. Ooh, that's a nice bag. Nice bag. That's a really nice bag. Yep. Bailey Works makes some nice stuff. They sure do. I guess I'll have to order more, 'cause I stole one for my own damn self, too.
• 34:58
[laughs] I still got my eyes on that purple one, too. It's a pretty nice backpack. Yep. By the by, on a selfish note, th- um, is there a chance of the Banjo liner to be- Oh, I wonder if they're back in stock yet.
• 35:13
They were like backordered for a while. If they're... Yeah, I know they were backordered. I'm sitting on a barge. 'Cause if you look on the- Oh, Trusty bought that, didn't he? Yeah. What? He bought the other one. What?
• 35:22
Banjo bag. Yeah, the w- [laughs] Oh, yeah. I was gonna- He just might just bought the- He just bought the liner. I was gonna say, swap the liner out the one we have. No, no, no.
• 35:28
I was just gonna swap out that thing, [laughs] just see who noticed. [laughs] Yeah.
• 35:32
While we're talking about Trusty, I had to go, uh, for the Digital Bridge yesterday, I had to go to Harley-Davidson to pick up some, uh, donated items.
• 35:39
And as we're pulling up, I see the bike racks, and there's one bike in the racks, and I, we literally drive by him and I'm like... I said to Jeff, the owner, I'm like, "God, that bike looks familiar."
• 35:49
I'm like, "Ah, it's Trusty's bike." So he's the only guy that rides his bike to Harley in the, in the inclement weather. Inclement? In- inclement. Inclement. Inclement weather.
• 35:58
Was it this RSD, or was it, uh- The right emphasis on the, um, syllable. Thank you. Uh, it was his Rally cyclocross bike. Oh, gotcha. Yeah. I, I catch him on the, uh, Oak Leaf, uh- Yeah... riding do- riding his dog.
• 36:15
Yeah. [laughs] Well, for you folks- He's just awesome. [laughs]...
• 36:16
that wanna know more about the RSD Sergeant, he wrote a pretty lengthy article on his experience with it so far, which we will put up there on thefatbike.com at some point in the not too distant future
• 36:28
Probably after this weekend. I wanted some pictures of him actually riding it instead of bike posing by trees and benches- Ah... and whatnot. So we'll get some pictures of John down there at the old Funduro and- Nice.
• 36:38
Gonna try to make me, he said... uh, short story, he loves it. Um, the whole idea for him was to use, to get a, a, a kind of do it all bike where he could run 29er or, uh,
• 36:50
the fat bike, four inch fat bike tires, and it seems to perform very well at both tasks. Nice. Not an easy, uh, accomplishment on a lot of bike frames.
• 37:00
Hey, guess how many of those liners there are in stock at the old QEP? Is it zero? It's two. It's two. [laughs] You better order one now. [laughs] Now it's one. Now it's one. I'll put that in there.
• 37:10
[laughs] Hopeful- hopefully before we push the cart through tomorrow, uh, it'll still be there. Yeah. Crikey. Ah, what else? We got anything else? Is there stuff...
• 37:20
There's stuff coming up, but, uh- Just paying for- Yeah, that liner's shot... nah, you've used the heck out of that liner, buddy. That bag's... How many years old is that bag?
• 37:27
[laughs] Well, that's his second liner too, that he- Jesus Christ, dude. [laughs] Yeah. Uh, well, now it's backpack season again. Okay. We kind of got through the summer with kind of- [laughs] Easy...
• 37:36
less backpack need- Yeah... but now it's with layering and- Yeah... having- Bathing, watering and- Having a backpack's a good thing. I forgot my rain pants today. It's a big mistake. I use my gear.
• 37:48
I use- I love my gear... my gear. I, I, I don't own any Wall Princess bikes either. That's why I'm kind of excited- [laughs]... about seeing this Chumba get out on the road, 'cause I know Sam D.
• 37:57
is gonna ride the hell out of this thing. Chumba. Chumba. And- The crank should hopefully be here tomorrow- Yeah, that, that-... then we can finish that thing off finally.
• 38:05
It's been, it's been a little bit of a collecting of the parts. It's a journey. Yeah. It's, it's... That should also go on the- Like his set just looks, is so nice and- Got your Paul components and stuff...
• 38:13
fun looking... got your, uh, Onyx- 26-ish you think, pounds? I don't know. With that ENVE seat post, it's gonna be svelte. God, I gotta put a picture of that too.
• 38:21
[laughs] It's like- It's so expensive, but it's so beautiful. Hey, here's something I read on the old interwebs- Yeah... that isn't a kerfuffle. Ugh.
• 38:31
They're expanding the ski hill at Rib Mountain and mountain biking could come to Rib. I heard that too. I saw that too. He is? That's pretty exciting. Yes.
• 38:38
Rib's a beautiful place to ride a snowboard or skis, so- And that's Wausau, right? Wausau. I g- I mean, what they already have s- W-A-U- If this is gonna... S-A-U. Wausau.
• 38:48
That Wausau will be the mountain bike mecca of the Midwest is- It might... Wausau. I think that, you know, hey, and you know what that's gonna do? Bring them a lot of money.
• 38:56
They got tourism figured out in Wausau, [laughs] that's for sure. Yeah. Well, they have the resources too with that hill, for one. Mm-hmm. Those hills, and, uh, the, and the will to do it, so just more trips to Wausau.
• 39:08
I was, uh, I was driving there once and saw a, uh- [laughs] More trip- I, I was driving there once and saw four sets- More reason to go there... of skis come off the rack of a car in front of us.
• 39:17
Like, the whole rack just lifted off the car and blew right at us as we were driving. From the roof? Yeah. Oh, I hope it wasn't a Saris. That doesn't really matter- I-... 'cause they don't make roof racks anymore.
• 39:27
Yeah, but, yeah, no, it was... I don't know what it was, but fortunately it didn't hit us. Yeah. Here's another one I'm not thrilled to read. Uh-oh. Great Lakes water levels- Yes... even higher in 2020. Yeah.
• 39:41
That's, that- So I, I saw that video of Zito, uh, Zito and Colin from like, what- Yeah... like seven, eight years ago. When we could ride 40 bikes across that beach? Right. Right. Yep.
• 39:53
Side by side, that's incredible the difference. Well, and then, you know, you have to go in a little bit, of course, but- That- that's part of the...
• 39:59
You gotta cross a couple of, you know, small rivers, you know, but no, now it is... That's... It's unbelievable. Sad. It's almost three feet higher- Temperatures are rising... climate change is real, people...
• 40:13
uh, since, what was the low point? This is Mike Reddick, folks. 2013 or something. Uh, it, it, that, that ride, the... Even this spring when we did the ride where I, you know, we...
• 40:26
That's a quarter of what we used to ride. Oh, yeah, the, the Funduro in- Funduro. Yep. Yep... in, in Port. Yeah, you had, you had to go and do a little swimming, a little bit. [laughs] Achoo. It goes that tight.
• 40:38
Excuse me. Excuse me. Um, yeah, I mean, you had to do a little swimming back in the day. This year it was total water. Yeah. You know, they were, they were riding three or four abreast was hard to do. Yep.
• 40:50
That's cray cray. So 11 inches higher- That's a good saying... they're predicting January over January, '19 to '20. Holy shit. Yeah. That's, that's- That's not good... that's crazy.
• 41:00
That's gonna create some havoc on the shoreline. But you know what? The more it erodes and then it recedes, the more we got later on. [laughs] I suppose it's the way to look at it, if it ever recedes.
• 41:10
Hey, here's something else- Like, like this wonderful hairline I have. [laughs] Yeah, that's beauty. That'll be in the podcast too, ladies and gentlemen. This is very receding. The, the remnants of JK's holiday- Yes...
• 41:20
Halloween costume- Yes... ing. Oh, oh, hey, oh, a third layer. The receding hairline is like the receding shoreline. Oh, yeah, yeah. Wow. So. That's deep. Wouldn't that mean you'd have more hair? I don't know.
• 41:36
No, I was called, uh, Hunter Thompson the first four times [laughs] on Saturday, so I'm like- You could potentially get a tattoo-... all right, so, well- A tattoo?...
• 41:47
a- across the top of your head, and it could be like a shoreline. Mm-hmm. There you go. You could. I wouldn't want to. Little waves. Nope. Exactly.
• 41:56
Once you start tattooing the head, the face is next, and then, then you're kind of- You know, I-... walking down that path... as a person, as the only person in this room who has tattoos, I'm gonna tell you,
• 42:09
I'm not getting a tattoo on my head. That's gotta be one of the most painful experiences- Oh, I cut my hand... next to, "Hey, Jim Huber, why did you p- you know, tattoo your lip?" Oh. That one I know. Palm.
• 42:21
Palm, I mean- Palm is supposed to be the worst. Like, guys- Oh, y- see, I heard that it wears out-... I know that have like a shitload of them-... and it's okay... they're like, "Ah." Yeah.
• 42:30
Like right during that time, it's like- I've heard armpit is horrible. Now we're talking about tattoos. Let's stop this. Yeah. Me too. We, we don't even have to continue anymore. Yeah. We can just cut this off right now.
• 42:40
Yeah, out, right meow. Hey, we'll see you, [laughs] see you next week, folks. Meow. [laughs] Things are getting out of hand. And, uh, if, if you really don't have anything to do this weekend, come on down to the Funduro.
• 42:49
Oh, please. Yes. Watch. Come say hi. Have fun. And be on a podcast. Peckle.
• 42:56
  [upbeat music]
