- 0:29Speaker 2: Cooper filling in for Dave Ball, and Dave will be back.

- 0:39Speaker 2: be back this afternoon on Hotline with Dave Weinkly at
- 0:41Speaker 2: three or six. But we still have the business of
- 0:43Speaker 2: the day to take care of. Joining me in a
- 0:44Speaker 2: studio here well right now, Brian Hugheses with me. We're
- 0:47Speaker 2: going to talk a little bit about the regard how
- 0:48Speaker 2: you doing this morning, Brian.
- 0:49Speaker 3: It's a great day to be alive.
- 0:51Speaker 4: It is.
- 0:51Speaker 2: There's a lot of stuff to talk about, that's for sure.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Joining me later in the hour is going to be
- 0:55Speaker 2: Brad mcqueney. Several stories we're going to run down with
- 0:58Speaker 2: Brad around he's our State House report and there is
- 1:00Speaker 2: three or four different things I'm going to get into
- 1:02Speaker 2: with Brad, but big news as far as in the
- 1:05Speaker 2: city of Charleston, and that big news came down tomorrow.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Let me tell you first about some of the folks
- 1:10Speaker 2: that are sponsoring the program. Phone calls to the show.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Our service of Guarantee Bank now open. Now open at
- 1:15Speaker 2: thirteen twenty Canall Boulevard, East End, Charleston, and texting services
- 1:19Speaker 2: are provided by West Virgingia's finest men's store, Tony the

- 1:27Speaker 2: is your go to spot for your Kentucky Derby gear.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Visit Best Master Taylor dot com or Tony's Facebook page
- 1:34Speaker 2: for more information. Brian Hughes, like I said, is here
- 1:37Speaker 2: we want to talk a little bit about the regatta
- 1:39Speaker 2: that's coming up and big times, big times man.
- 1:42Speaker 5: You know this is we're excited. You know we got
- 1:46Speaker 5: quote unquote lucky. We were actually supposed to be the
- 1:48Speaker 5: regatta one year earlier. Oh yeah, right, but you know
- 1:51Speaker 5: the COVID stuff had right right, I mean in a
- 1:53Speaker 5: flood actually delayed our announcement and that is why and
- 1:58Speaker 5: then next thing, you know, the COVID stuff happened, and
- 2:01Speaker 5: so we had to move on. So you know, it
- 2:03Speaker 5: was weird how things worked out because that put us
- 2:05Speaker 5: now for the five year anniversary on the two hundred
- 2:08Speaker 5: and fiftieth birthday of America, and ID is going to
- 2:10Speaker 5: be a big show. I mean, this is by the way,
- 2:13Speaker 5: this is moved from working draft to actual to actual.
- 2:16Speaker 6: I see it as draft across it. This is real.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Now I did get an emailed to me. I just
- 2:19Speaker 3: looked at the wrong account.
- 2:20Speaker 5: So this is but this is really we're really excited
- 2:24Speaker 5: about this. You know, we've been talking to a lot
- 2:26Speaker 5: of our sponsors and this was this was for when
- 2:30Speaker 5: I met with with within COVID now five years ago.
- 2:35Speaker 5: This was the mark that I said, we're gonna make
- 2:38Speaker 5: it five year mark, but I just need some help
- 2:41Speaker 5: and they I wasn't. Those folks over there trusted trusted us,
- 2:45Speaker 5: They trusted me, and that was that was really exciting.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Once we got that, we knew we're going to take off.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I've been a business owner in the past, and is
- 2:53Speaker 2: the festivals and things like that kind of live along
- 2:56Speaker 2: that same path. Like five years is really that benchmark
- 2:58Speaker 2: for businesses too, like if you can stay open for
- 2:59Speaker 2: five years, you're you're paying your bills, you're you're making
- 3:02Speaker 2: a profit. Things like that, it usually means you can
- 3:04Speaker 2: stick around for a while.
- 3:05Speaker 7: Right.
- 3:05Speaker 5: The mayor had said, we need to get three in
- 3:09Speaker 5: and after we get three we'll know what we got
- 3:12Speaker 5: to fix big time if we need to fix anything.
- 3:14Speaker 5: And we fix every things every year, but we knew
- 3:17Speaker 5: if we have to five that would take it to
- 3:18Speaker 5: the next level. And and we just happened to be
- 3:21Speaker 5: lucky enough that is on America's two hundred fifty birthday.
- 3:23Speaker 3: There's gonna be a lot.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Of celebrations, but you know we are going to have
- 3:27Speaker 5: more celebrations around the city.
- 3:29Speaker 3: The fireworks show, it's great. This fireworks show.
- 3:33Speaker 5: I have to absolutely thank the anonymous donors who stepped
- 3:38Speaker 5: up and they put it through the Canal Valley Foundation.
- 3:40Speaker 5: They helped us out to anonymize everything just because they said,
- 3:44Speaker 5: we want to have a very nice firework show.
- 3:46Speaker 6: Wow.
- 3:47Speaker 3: And he is going to be huge.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Three firing locations, one at Magic Island, one directly across
- 3:52Speaker 5: from had Adam of Corcorle Avenue, and then the other
- 3:54Speaker 5: one out of Arge in the middle of the Canal
- 3:57Speaker 5: River right in front of the state Capitol.
- 3:58Speaker 6: It's gonna be huge.
- 3:59Speaker 5: Listen, anybody who has who has just an inkling of
- 4:03Speaker 5: photographic you know, work or what the adumption right right,
- 4:09Speaker 5: sign up, get ready. This is going to be something
- 4:11Speaker 5: you'll never be able to capture again in your lifetime
- 4:15Speaker 5: most likely. But it's gonna be West Virginia's largest firework
- 4:17Speaker 5: show ever produced.
- 4:19Speaker 2: You know, I was just a couple of weeks ago
- 4:20Speaker 2: I got the big press release. You know, the city
- 4:22Speaker 2: of Pittsburgh does their their summer concert series and they
- 4:25Speaker 2: have several different locations where they launch shows about and
- 4:28Speaker 2: the good artists that were coming in there. I was like, man,
- 4:30Speaker 2: that's the you know, if you were wanting to go
- 4:31Speaker 2: see some some shows, that's a pretty good summer concert
- 4:34Speaker 2: series at Wittsburg has going on.
- 4:35Speaker 5: I had somebody who said, this looks like almost it
- 4:37Speaker 5: could be a regott On.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Well now, and what made me bring that up is, frankly, frankly, Pittsburgh,
- 4:44Speaker 2: I REGTDA lineup is looking pretty darn strong. Night number one, well,
- 4:48Speaker 2: let's just we'll just open up with Night number one
- 4:50Speaker 2: could be the closing night on just about any other
- 4:52Speaker 2: night just absolutely incredible.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Absolutely could be.
- 4:54Speaker 5: And the what we've had to do every year is
- 4:56Speaker 5: we get artists that are just traveling through I got
- 4:59Speaker 5: to get from Let's say they're gonna get from Cincy
- 5:01Speaker 5: down to Jacksonville, Ford.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Well, that's not a direct round. I think you'll probably south.
- 5:05Speaker 5: But if they come through Charleston and make a little
- 5:07Speaker 5: money on the way, have a concert, and still make
- 5:09Speaker 5: it to Jacksonville, Ford, So we get them in transit.
- 5:13Speaker 5: But this year with Brett Michaels on Saturday and why
- 5:17Speaker 5: Noona and Melissa Etheridge on tour on Thursday, we get
- 5:22Speaker 5: them actually on their tours like legitimate. So I think
- 5:25Speaker 5: either yesterday or today they're gonna be put they're gonna
- 5:28Speaker 5: be filling that hole on their schedule. Uh for the
- 5:31Speaker 5: holiday weekend, We're we're absolutely thrilled about that.
- 5:34Speaker 3: But uh yeah, Thursday.
- 5:36Speaker 5: I mean we're about in a thousand if not more
- 5:40Speaker 5: when we started everything.
- 5:41Speaker 6: It's pretty crazy.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Of course, Melissa Ethreach, who you were just alluding to,
- 5:45Speaker 2: I mean, she's she's she's fresh in the headlines right now.
- 5:48Speaker 2: She has a movie that's going to be coming out
- 5:49Speaker 2: with christ and Stewart's going to be playing her I
- 5:50Speaker 2: believe in a biopic about about Melissa Ethridge and h
- 5:54Speaker 2: and then of course Manoona Judd is also going to
- 5:56Speaker 2: be there that night. Before we talk a little bit
- 5:57Speaker 2: more about that, I threw it through together or some music,
- 5:59Speaker 2: So I think anybody here is gonna have any problem
- 6:01Speaker 2: with Melissa Ethree Dana Judge. But just to wet your
- 6:04Speaker 2: whistle just a little bit, I'll put together a little
- 6:06Speaker 2: bit of music. So here is a little bit of
- 6:08Speaker 2: a compilation between Melissa Ethree, jen Wana Judge night one
- 6:11Speaker 2: of the regarded which will be Thursday night.
- 6:35Speaker 3: She is invited.
- 6:36Speaker 6: Yeah, she can come, Yeah, she can come on over.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Singing along with me. Here we got way.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Everybody knows this song, right, it's so funny this morning,
- 6:48Speaker 2: And of course our stations here locally have been adding
- 6:51Speaker 2: some of this music. But I was, as I was
- 6:53Speaker 2: putting together these reels this morning, I could hear our
- 6:55Speaker 2: country stations Who's firstar Counry ninety six one in the
- 6:57Speaker 2: background playing and they were actually playing this this morning.
- 7:01Speaker 6: Go imagine that.
- 7:02Speaker 5: So it was when one person in the building who
- 7:04Speaker 5: made sure a couple of extra songs were added to
- 7:06Speaker 5: the lineup for.
- 7:08Speaker 6: Oh that's good. All right, Yeah, that's good.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Just nobody knew but three people.
- 7:12Speaker 2: So of course Melissa Ethreege if you must know who
- 7:15Speaker 2: she is. But the huge songs come through my window.
- 7:17Speaker 2: I'm the only one I want to come over, bringing
- 7:19Speaker 2: some water, tons of hot number one songs that were
- 7:22Speaker 2: ripped off in the in the mid nineties. Just an
- 7:25Speaker 2: iconic artist. She's performed in Charleston a couple of times,
- 7:27Speaker 2: I think before the Clay Center. She's been here before.
- 7:30Speaker 2: So just a superstar that's going to be one part
- 7:33Speaker 2: of the opening night, you know.
- 7:34Speaker 5: And and I'm gonna tell you something, seriously, we can't
- 7:37Speaker 5: thank our sponsors enough because they have they've allowed this
- 7:40Speaker 5: to be a free event, and it costs a fortune
- 7:44Speaker 5: to book these artists. And we've actually been planning for
- 7:49Speaker 5: two years now, two years for this event because two
- 7:54Speaker 5: hundred and fiftieth I mean, I remember the conference call
- 7:56Speaker 5: I was. I was on a Sturmo boat in Augusta, Kentucky,
- 7:59Speaker 5: and I'm on a conference call, uh with Andy Richardson,
- 8:03Speaker 5: our president, Madame Mayer, and Matt Sutton and Jane Bostick,
- 8:08Speaker 5: and we were all talking about you know, we were
- 8:10Speaker 5: talking about security, the whole everything. But we were planning
- 8:14Speaker 5: on a there's gonna be elevated pricing. It is gonna
- 8:16Speaker 5: be July fourth on a Saturday in America, sooner fifties,
- 8:19Speaker 5: So you've got to plan all these different things. But
- 8:22Speaker 5: the cool part about Thursday night is they're both gonna
- 8:25Speaker 5: do seventy five minutes each. Seventy five minutes are gonna
- 8:29Speaker 5: do and that's it's typical. But you've got i mean,
- 8:32Speaker 5: dual headliners. So you'll know every song. Yeah, you'll know
- 8:35Speaker 5: every song, every single one of both of them. And
- 8:36Speaker 5: they're gonna sing together.
- 8:38Speaker 6: On some songs no way. Yeah, I didn't know that
- 8:40Speaker 6: was even a thing.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Yeah, So they're gonna do renditions this of some of them.
- 8:44Speaker 5: I mean, you know, the the the people who are
- 8:47Speaker 5: religiously go to concerts and follow websites about playlists or
- 8:51Speaker 5: set lists for uh concerts, They're gonna get it. You'll
- 8:54Speaker 5: be able to get a heads up on maybe some
- 8:56Speaker 5: of the songs that are going to be singing together.
- 8:57Speaker 5: But it's also the fourth of July weekend, and so
- 9:01Speaker 5: that weekend usually artists pull songs out that they've not
- 9:04Speaker 5: done it a long time. You never know that somebody
- 9:06Speaker 5: else is, but still they paid tribute to them, and
- 9:08Speaker 5: it's it's this is gonna be so much fun.
- 9:11Speaker 2: It's gonna be great. Well, I know, it's amazing. She's
- 9:13Speaker 2: been solo since nineteen ninety two. I was looking at
- 9:15Speaker 2: that a little bit. I mean, the Judds were such
- 9:17Speaker 2: a massive I mean just platinum hit after platinum hit
- 9:21Speaker 2: after platinum hit in the eighties and nineties, and I
- 9:23Speaker 2: was I was looking up.
- 9:24Speaker 6: I was like, when did she go solo? When was that?
- 9:26Speaker 2: For I'm getting to be very old, but I could
- 9:29Speaker 2: not believe it was in nineteen ninety two. I mean,
- 9:31Speaker 2: she she's basically been a solo artist for twice as
- 9:33Speaker 2: long as that she was a jid, Yeah exactly.
- 9:36Speaker 5: And of course her being from Ashland and such that,
- 9:40Speaker 5: you know, that helped a local connection.
- 9:42Speaker 6: But you know, I met her.
- 9:43Speaker 5: I've been her in nineteen ninety in the fall of
- 9:47Speaker 5: nineteen ninety seven, and she came to the studio in Lovewock, Texas.
- 9:51Speaker 6: And she was a that hair.
- 9:54Speaker 3: It is that red down to the roots. Sometimes you
- 9:57Speaker 3: let it go, but let me get it is that red.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Always felt like that she might have been or we
- 10:01Speaker 2: might have been an honorary part of her family. Because
- 10:03Speaker 2: my my family also has that red hair on my
- 10:05Speaker 2: mom's side that like like the Judds family looks like
- 10:08Speaker 2: my mom.
- 10:10Speaker 6: I'm gonna wear that.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Let's let's continue on. Let's uh, that's a blockbuster, just
- 10:14Speaker 2: getting it started all night night one. Talk a little
- 10:16Speaker 2: bit about night two, and I'll get us started with
- 10:18Speaker 2: the music this time around Montel Jordan.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Of course this is sound and everybody think by the way,
- 10:27Speaker 5: the announcement yesterday, everybody was singing alonger they knew their song.
- 10:30Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, they know this song.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Now I'll admit that night number two on Friday, that's
- 10:34Speaker 2: gonna be Montell Jordan bow Wow and Bobby Brown. Bow
- 10:37Speaker 2: Wow was a little bit out of my demo. He's
- 10:40Speaker 2: a little bit. He's a little bit younger than what
- 10:42Speaker 2: I was. This is bow Wow here and this is
- 10:45Speaker 2: him as a kid. Right, he's older now he's older now, yeah,
- 10:48Speaker 2: this was little bow Wow.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Se so you folks you're older.
- 10:53Speaker 8: He was a kid.
- 10:54Speaker 5: He was like twelve, twelve or thirteen in this song, right,
- 10:57Speaker 5: and so he came out as little bow Wow and uh,
- 11:01Speaker 5: he's changed to bow Wow.
- 11:03Speaker 9: Now.
- 11:03Speaker 3: He looks really good in his photo by the way.
- 11:05Speaker 2: And then Bobby Brown's been to Charleston before. I saw
- 11:07Speaker 2: him and concert back in the eighties with LeVert and
- 11:10Speaker 2: uh it was the Karen Uh, I'll be your super Superwoman.
- 11:14Speaker 2: I can't remember Karen White.
- 11:15Speaker 6: I think her name was.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I saw him when he came to town. So this
- 11:18Speaker 2: is straight out of my teenage years. Other than bow Wow,
- 11:21Speaker 2: who was a little bit before me, but Montel Jordan
- 11:23Speaker 2: and Bobby Brown, this is straight when I was playing
- 11:25Speaker 2: basketball and football here in Kanall City growing up in
- 11:27Speaker 2: the eighties and nineties.
- 11:28Speaker 6: This is straight out of my child.
- 11:29Speaker 5: Sometimes you got to play to the those two Montel
- 11:32Speaker 5: and Bobby. They're playing to a younger crowd and so
- 11:34Speaker 5: they're trying to make sure that they bring a few.
- 11:37Speaker 6: Young kids in.
- 11:38Speaker 5: But uh, now this was I had a number of
- 11:41Speaker 5: text messages, text messages from some of my friends are like, oh,
- 11:44Speaker 5: it's this throwback. There's a great stuff I had won.
- 11:47Speaker 5: Adam Rodgers he goes, he goes my boy, Bobby.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Brown can't wait. I was like, he's your boy?
- 11:54Speaker 1: Is he?
- 11:56Speaker 5: But that that's so exciting and and uh and then
- 11:59Speaker 5: you know, we go, we go from Friday Night, we go.
- 12:02Speaker 5: We just had the ladies kick us off. The guys
- 12:05Speaker 5: are here on Friday night, and then we go to Saturday,
- 12:07Speaker 5: which Saturday, the slew of events is obsurd.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Let's talk about that a little before we get to
- 12:12Speaker 2: the music. There's a lot of stuff going on Friday Saturday.
- 12:15Speaker 5: We've got the We've got the winder dog race that's
- 12:18Speaker 5: gonna happen, and that's gonna be down at Magic Island.
- 12:20Speaker 5: We're really excited about that, and we've got some folks
- 12:23Speaker 5: are stepping up to help sponsor that event. There is
- 12:27Speaker 5: the hot dog eating contests and that's gonna be down
- 12:30Speaker 5: at Hatted Riverfront Park.
- 12:32Speaker 6: We moved it.
- 12:32Speaker 5: We finally figured out that's the best place to have
- 12:34Speaker 5: it every year. And so gosh, oh my guys, I
- 12:37Speaker 5: can't with the guy from Nitro who won last year.
- 12:40Speaker 5: He's back, so we'll have him there. He's held me
- 12:42Speaker 5: out on stage last year. He could have eaten more.
- 12:44Speaker 5: He's disappointed in himself. So we'll see how that works
- 12:47Speaker 5: out because it was a tight one. So we had
- 12:50Speaker 5: a hot dog eating contest, and of course you know
- 12:53Speaker 5: the funeral parade, and matter of fact, I have a
- 12:56Speaker 5: meeting about that tomorrow. We're gonna finalize some of the
- 12:58Speaker 5: details on that, and we are really excited about that.
- 13:02Speaker 5: Marty Gracassino has stepped up and they said they said
- 13:05Speaker 5: last year, he said, we need to be back in
- 13:08Speaker 5: the swing of things, bigger and better, and so they're
- 13:10Speaker 5: going to help out and make sure that just Is
- 13:12Speaker 5: is top notch.
- 13:13Speaker 3: And people love that.
- 13:15Speaker 5: I mean, it's a time to cut it's it's when
- 13:17Speaker 5: you know, it's when the festival people go, we can
- 13:19Speaker 5: come out of the shadows and then either and it's
- 13:22Speaker 5: a it's a heck of a break that I you know,
- 13:25Speaker 5: it's a very short parade round. I mean, listen, we're
- 13:26Speaker 5: going two blocks on Capitol Street, give that, and then
- 13:29Speaker 5: we make the turn and we go back over to
- 13:31Speaker 5: s like Plaza. But the fun part about that is
- 13:33Speaker 5: it is jam packed on the sidewalks like it's a
- 13:35Speaker 5: Christmas parade at least for that block and a half
- 13:38Speaker 5: to two blocks.
- 13:39Speaker 3: And it's really cool. That's a mayor's favorite event.
- 13:42Speaker 5: And so she already has been working on her ideas
- 13:47Speaker 5: for because believe me, believe me she is she puts
- 13:51Speaker 5: a heck of a lot of effort into it.
- 13:52Speaker 6: But everybody does.
- 13:54Speaker 5: I mean, we had someone was carrying their relatives ashes
- 13:57Speaker 5: in the parade last year, and of course the the
- 14:01Speaker 5: Great Canal River Navy they helped step up and make
- 14:04Speaker 5: sure that that is has a good event with the band,
- 14:06Speaker 5: the Canon Navy River Band. So it's it's really exciting.
- 14:11Speaker 5: But you've got the uh you've got also, by the way,
- 14:14Speaker 5: the fire truck parade. Lots of cool, very cool. Always
- 14:16Speaker 5: cool to have the loudest parade too. Oh, it's so fun.
- 14:20Speaker 5: And then they start to hear the sirens, they're starting
- 14:22Speaker 5: to put their fingers in their ears, and then as
- 14:24Speaker 5: we get to the end of the event, at that
- 14:26Speaker 5: point they've just pulled them out.
- 14:27Speaker 6: So there's smiling. Yeah, yeah, they just want to hear it.
- 14:29Speaker 3: But it's just it's a great day to be downtown.
- 14:32Speaker 5: And we've got the kid Zone over it's going to
- 14:35Speaker 5: be over at Slack Plaza and that is all dedicated
- 14:38Speaker 5: to kids. I mean, you know, there's of course going
- 14:41Speaker 5: to be some things you can buy for food, whatever else.
- 14:43Speaker 5: And we've got the entrepreneurs market there.
- 14:45Speaker 6: Young kids.
- 14:46Speaker 5: I mean these kids who are anywhere from seven, eight
- 14:48Speaker 5: to ten twelve years old who are putting their products
- 14:51Speaker 5: out there that they've put together and it's amazing. We
- 14:54Speaker 5: were blown away the first two years ago when we
- 14:56Speaker 5: did it, and so that's that has been successful.
- 14:59Speaker 2: But Saturday is so Saturday is just huge. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:03Speaker 2: it's a it's a big but so many events going on.
- 15:05Speaker 2: I mean, just look at the calendar. You can get
- 15:06Speaker 2: to it. It's a Charlestons Stern what Charleston Regard dot
- 15:11Speaker 2: Charleston Regatta dot com. Go to Charleston Regatta dot com.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Just look at the calendar of events. I mean we're
- 15:15Speaker 2: talking about the music primarily, but the major events that
- 15:18Speaker 2: are going on, from wrestling, I mean wrestling, yeah, there's
- 15:21Speaker 2: that too, from from uh from US the Slack Slam,
- 15:24Speaker 2: all the way to uh UH to the to the
- 15:27Speaker 2: to the different parades and things that are going on.
- 15:29Speaker 6: It's just I mean, the city really does come alive.
- 15:32Speaker 5: They don't stop. Yeah, and and and when I say
- 15:34Speaker 5: don't stop, they let's just go ahead and say it.
- 15:37Speaker 5: These the city employees, over seven hundred and fifty employees
- 15:40Speaker 5: within the City of Charleston, they step up. You know,
- 15:45Speaker 5: when we first started, I was you know, I felt
- 15:47Speaker 5: bad about the whole July fourth thing. I mean, you're
- 15:50Speaker 5: changing lives and families, plans everything else. But there are
- 15:53Speaker 5: a lot of those guys who said, now we want this,
- 15:55Speaker 5: we want to come back after you're one, we still
- 15:58Speaker 5: want to do it. And you know, we're going into
- 15:59Speaker 5: the fifth year now, and there guys people have now
- 16:02Speaker 5: after the first probably about three years, year four and.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Now going new year five, have changed their family vacations.
- 16:09Speaker 10: Right.
- 16:10Speaker 5: Even the people that would go to down to West
- 16:12Speaker 5: Virginia's beach down there, Myrtle Beach, they've I've had a
- 16:15Speaker 5: number of people say we still go, we just don't
- 16:18Speaker 5: go on regatta weekend now.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Talking about the regard of the big announcement yesterday with
- 16:22Speaker 2: Brian Hughes a couple more nights that we're going to
- 16:23Speaker 2: get to the end of Saturday, and we were talking
- 16:25Speaker 2: about the events taking place on Saturday, which there's tons
- 16:27Speaker 2: of them. Again, go to the website and check it out.
- 16:29Speaker 2: There's so much going on. But I was a little bit,
- 16:32Speaker 2: uh my wife didn't know who lead Afford was. She's
- 16:34Speaker 2: a little younger than me. I listen, I'm in the
- 16:37Speaker 2: same boat, and I had to. I tried to sing
- 16:39Speaker 2: the Ozzie lead a song tour. I got all the
- 16:41Speaker 2: lyrics wrong, so I sang this one too, or I
- 16:43Speaker 2: got this one right, and so she still didn't recognize it.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Yes, I know that I needed that song.
- 16:56Speaker 2: And of course also on Saturday night, no introduction of
- 16:59Speaker 2: me at here A fabulously nice man. I've talked to
- 17:02Speaker 2: Brett Michael's a few times. Fabulously nice guy. Of course,
- 17:11Speaker 2: Brett Michael's formerly singer of Poison. My understanding is he
- 17:15Speaker 2: he did uh Morgantown I think last year and in
- 17:18Speaker 2: the Ruby concert. And my understanding is he does. He
- 17:21Speaker 2: has a solo career. He does some of his solo stuff,
- 17:23Speaker 2: but he does he does all the hits too. Yeah,
- 17:25Speaker 2: and so you're I mean, that's a night that I
- 17:27Speaker 2: could go and sing every song. Yet again, let's be honest.
- 17:29Speaker 2: I thought Poison when I was a kid. I heard
- 17:32Speaker 2: the voices. I was like, those are men. And then
- 17:34Speaker 2: you looked at the promo photos in their album. You
- 17:36Speaker 2: are we sure that what's going on here.
- 17:39Speaker 6: I'm a little older than you. I knew what was
- 17:40Speaker 6: going the hair metal times or something else. Man, that
- 17:45Speaker 6: was something else.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Oh, I gotta tell you.
- 17:47Speaker 5: And by the way, Tony the Taylor said to me
- 17:50Speaker 5: in a text, message, he goes, dude, Brett Michael's nicest man.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Seriously you'll ever meet.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Just just just a gentleman man. I talked to him
- 17:58Speaker 2: for about ten minutes off line. He was reviewing more
- 18:00Speaker 2: on the hotline before. Just seriously a nice guy. I
- 18:03Speaker 2: was floored by how nice he was.
- 18:04Speaker 5: Well, and you couple that with the fact that Tony
- 18:08Speaker 5: said straight up he's better as a solo artist than
- 18:11Speaker 5: he was with Poison as a band.
- 18:12Speaker 3: So and he's going to play all every single one.
- 18:14Speaker 3: You might have been the only actual musician.
- 18:17Speaker 6: I'm not sure.
- 18:19Speaker 2: There's a little there was a there was a lot
- 18:20Speaker 2: about m Major back now, I mean that's not fully true,
- 18:23Speaker 2: but Brett Michaels is a talented musician. So I'm looking
- 18:26Speaker 2: forward to that. And then Sunday, of course, tons of
- 18:28Speaker 2: events that's going to be taking place on Sunday as
- 18:30Speaker 2: well as we kind of wrap up the week, all
- 18:32Speaker 2: kinds of things going on, and there's music. There's music
- 18:35Speaker 2: Sunday night as well. But just again, we're putting kind
- 18:38Speaker 2: of a bow on this thing, and it's just going
- 18:39Speaker 2: to be the end to a great week.
- 18:40Speaker 3: It is everything. W Thomas has stepped up to help
- 18:43Speaker 3: us through the drum show.
- 18:44Speaker 5: Drune shows are very expensive and so so we we
- 18:50Speaker 5: and the closer they are to a holiday, they get
- 18:52Speaker 5: more expensive. So the good part is Thomas just stepped
- 18:56Speaker 5: up and said, we'll help take care of this. So
- 18:58Speaker 5: that's going to be happening. That's going to be that.
- 19:00Speaker 5: But it's you need to pay attention what happens in
- 19:02Speaker 5: the morning. We have a car show that is going
- 19:05Speaker 5: to be on the boulevard. And I listen, five thousand
- 19:07Speaker 5: comments i've ever heard have been, where's a rod running?
- 19:10Speaker 6: Dow up everything?
- 19:12Speaker 5: Everything happened where the organization there said, our members are
- 19:16Speaker 5: just not we're slowly dying off, and so we want
- 19:18Speaker 5: to watch that run right into the sunset.
- 19:20Speaker 3: And so we have constantly tried to find a way
- 19:22Speaker 3: to get the cars down to the boulevard.
- 19:25Speaker 5: So it is a herculean effort that happens as soon
- 19:28Speaker 5: as Brett Michael steps off stage. I'm not kidding you.
- 19:32Speaker 5: You're gonna see the stage starting to break down immediately.
- 19:34Speaker 5: Wow it and it happens overnight and so the the
- 19:38Speaker 5: you know, the union workers here are awesome, we love them.
- 19:42Speaker 5: And next thing you know, they break that down and
- 19:44Speaker 5: by the last sweeper that goes through at about seven
- 19:47Speaker 5: o'clock in the morning. Then those cars start to roll
- 19:49Speaker 5: in and so we set that part so where the
- 19:51Speaker 5: stage was is where a car show happens. And then
- 19:54Speaker 5: we go into the one o'clock time period, so that
- 19:56Speaker 5: wraps up around noon ish. I mean, the cars is
- 19:59Speaker 5: going to be for a while, but then we go
- 20:01Speaker 5: to one o'clock and it's signed for the let me
- 20:03Speaker 5: back up noon. You've got the United Way duck drop
- 20:06Speaker 5: off the bridge and then at what o'clock is the
- 20:10Speaker 5: Charleston Sermo Boat Races. And so I'm president of the
- 20:13Speaker 5: American stern Wall Association and we are absolutely thrilled to
- 20:17Speaker 5: do it. Some of us do it for sports, fun, fun,
- 20:21Speaker 5: you know, we wait not you know that's really and
- 20:24Speaker 5: then there are others who who just want to ruin
- 20:26Speaker 5: your day. And right right, yeah, that's your friend who said,
- 20:29Speaker 5: I'm not going to run it hard. Our friend Jim Krantz,
- 20:32Speaker 5: I will only run at eight hundred rpm. You know,
- 20:35Speaker 5: he's doing eleven hundred rpm down the river and I
- 20:37Speaker 5: can't catch up. So but but it is the Stirmo
- 20:41Speaker 5: boat races are are They are fun for us? You know,
- 20:43Speaker 5: we get we get to do what we don't get
- 20:46Speaker 5: to do every day, and as we collectively tear the
- 20:48Speaker 5: river apart. So that is that's actually why we had
- 20:52Speaker 5: the boats we suggest come off the floating dock because
- 20:55Speaker 5: we are going to we can destroy a plastic boat
- 20:57Speaker 5: with a collective washing out. Yeah, it's just it's a
- 21:03Speaker 5: nature of the beast. But people love to watch all
- 21:06Speaker 5: these boats going down the river. And we've got the
- 21:08Speaker 5: rufous b two, Lou Window Marine Sails, Saint Albans, Love Lou, Mike, Linda,
- 21:15Speaker 5: the Gary, the whole whole team, uh, Tom two, everybody
- 21:19Speaker 5: else in the shop. Those the rufous Bee two turns
- 21:22Speaker 5: one hundred years old this year and he's got fancy
- 21:25Speaker 5: stuff made up for it, so that's going to be exciting.
- 21:28Speaker 5: And then the miss Sterling Miss Sterling. That between those
- 21:31Speaker 5: two boats you're going to see the river rocking. So
- 21:34Speaker 5: the miss Sterling has had an overhaul after the Regotdas
- 21:38Speaker 5: season in September last year, it went to dock up
- 21:41Speaker 5: in up in north north northern Ohio. It's up the
- 21:45Speaker 5: near Sistersville and so it went to get work done there. Decks,
- 21:49Speaker 5: read on everything else. So both of these boats are
- 21:52Speaker 5: shined up for their one hundred year anniversary, on America's
- 21:55Speaker 5: two hundred fiftieth and the fifth year anniversary of the regatta.
- 21:58Speaker 6: That's incredible, man, this is gonna be just a story.
- 22:00Speaker 3: I don't know how the stars lined up like that.
- 22:01Speaker 6: Oh, by the way, we have some bands, Yeah, yeah,
- 22:03Speaker 6: I guess I bet.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Now I gotta tell just a brief, a brief story
- 22:06Speaker 2: here with these two bands, specifically Vertical Horizon and Tonic.
- 22:10Speaker 2: There's certain things in my life. The names Breton Brent
- 22:12Speaker 2: come to mind that I can never get straight. Like
- 22:14Speaker 2: if you come to me and your name is Brent,
- 22:16Speaker 2: I'm gonna call you Brett the rest of the rest
- 22:17Speaker 2: of my life. It's just the way I am. I
- 22:19Speaker 2: get the I just I just confuse those things. These
- 22:22Speaker 2: two bands are bands that I've been that with my
- 22:24Speaker 2: whole life. Specifically, these two songs, so Vertical Horizon and
- 22:27Speaker 2: Tonic are going to be here on Sunday. Maybe you're saying,
- 22:30Speaker 2: I know those bands, but where from?
- 22:32Speaker 6: Trust me?
- 22:32Speaker 11: You know?
- 22:38Speaker 3: Yep, gees everything.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Now, I get it.
- 22:44Speaker 6: Vertical Horizon, not Tonic. Tonic is coming up the exactly
- 22:55Speaker 6: everybody knows.
- 22:55Speaker 12: I don't.
- 22:56Speaker 6: I don't just.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Don't know.
- 23:00Speaker 6: Oh yeah. And then of course.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Fugit on the Sea.
- 23:10Speaker 6: Everybody knows these songs, right yeah. Boat Party, ah yeah,
- 23:16Speaker 6: boat Party of Fris House. There we go, it'll be
- 23:18Speaker 6: down there. That's good stuff.
- 23:20Speaker 2: So again that is Vertical Rising and Tonic of course,
- 23:22Speaker 2: those huge songs from the nineties. Vertical Rison is an
- 23:25Speaker 2: East Coast alternative rock band. Tonic is a West Coast
- 23:27Speaker 2: alternative rock band. But I have always got him confused.
- 23:29Speaker 5: Here's what's here's what happens with these alt rock bands.
- 23:32Speaker 5: You get people that are starting to show up that
- 23:35Speaker 5: you're like, who are these people? There're gonna be people
- 23:37Speaker 5: from New York, be sure, from down to Alabama. They
- 23:41Speaker 5: these alt rock people travel to these shows. I mean
- 23:43Speaker 5: there's a free one, huh. Next level. So that's that's
- 23:47Speaker 5: gonna be one of those days where the local crowd
- 23:49Speaker 5: will still be here and we will enjoy a nice
- 23:52Speaker 5: evening because we moved that all down to the Headed
- 23:54Speaker 5: riverfron Park, right and it becomes a more intimate setting
- 23:56Speaker 5: on Sunday because you're slowly winding things down. But this
- 24:00Speaker 5: alt rock stuff brings in tourists. I mean they'll they'll
- 24:03Speaker 5: be here for the day and then they'll just slowly
- 24:06Speaker 5: leave on Monday or maybe who knows, maybe one or
- 24:08Speaker 5: two to say. But that's that's what's fun about that.
- 24:11Speaker 5: And as I told you off here, yes I didn't.
- 24:14Speaker 5: It was not my day yesterday. I did not know
- 24:16Speaker 5: who this Woothy artists were for until I stepped up
- 24:20Speaker 5: and saw it. I'm gonna we saw the script in
- 24:21Speaker 5: front of me and I was like.
- 24:22Speaker 6: Okay, there we go.
- 24:23Speaker 2: That's good stuff, man. So a fantastic regatta. It's coming
- 24:26Speaker 2: up over the fourth of July weekend to celebrate America's birthday,
- 24:30Speaker 2: to celebrate West Virginia, to celebrate some of these great
- 24:32Speaker 2: bands that are coming through. So just head on over
- 24:34Speaker 2: to the website. If you have any questions about that
- 24:36Speaker 2: at all. It's uh Charleston Regatta dot com. Charleston Redotta

- 24:49Speaker 5: because we've just blown through the bottom of the hour
- 24:51Speaker 5: and I've never sat in on the show.

- 30:01Speaker 2: Tony's Facebook page. Talking about the phone line now the
- 30:04Speaker 2: Guarantee Bank phone line, we've read my Brad maclaney one
- 30:07Speaker 2: to talk a little bit about many stories that are
- 30:10Speaker 2: taking place in the state of West Virginia. Brad is
- 30:12Speaker 2: always busy and enjoy having on the air whenever I
- 30:15Speaker 2: fill in for this show. So Brad, good morning. How
- 30:16Speaker 2: are you doing this morning?
- 30:18Speaker 9: Oh, hello, good morning. And you know early voting begins
- 30:22Speaker 9: tex calendar tomorrow. Oh so a lot going on with
- 30:27Speaker 9: you know, what typically would be a mid term primary election.
- 30:32Speaker 9: Wes Virginia continues to be a very Trump different state.
- 30:35Speaker 9: He is not at the top of the ballot this year,
- 30:37Speaker 9: but that has not stopped a lot of spending, a
- 30:40Speaker 9: lot of activity, particularly in state Senate and State House
- 30:47Speaker 9: of Delegates races. You know, hopefully, hopefully Democrats are not
- 30:53Speaker 9: listening if you are set your thoughts aside. The political
- 30:58Speaker 9: competition at this moment moment is within the Republican Party
- 31:02Speaker 9: itself in West Virginia, and that has taken a shape
- 31:06Speaker 9: that I don't think I've ever seen. I mean, just
- 31:09Speaker 9: really incredible third party spending in this you know primary,
- 31:15Speaker 9: it is an off year. You know, you're not seeing
- 31:18Speaker 9: the president or the governor at the top of the ticket.
- 31:21Speaker 9: So just incredible spending, but also real divide I mean
- 31:26Speaker 9: factions in the Republican Party with the governor having a
- 31:32Speaker 9: seemingly favored slate of candidates, Governor Patrick Morrissey making no
- 31:35Speaker 9: bones about it, I mean hitting the road and endorsing
- 31:38Speaker 9: Republicans against other Republicans, political action committees associated with Governor
- 31:44Speaker 9: Morrissey doing heavy spending both for and against candidates. And
- 31:49Speaker 9: then you know, on the other side, loosely is a
- 31:54Speaker 9: different alignment of candidates. Senator Capito, who will be on
- 31:57Speaker 9: the ballot running for election, has you know, sort of
- 32:03Speaker 9: a little more quietly but but done endorsements herself of
- 32:07Speaker 9: a lot of the Senate, State Senate, and House of
- 32:11Speaker 9: Delegates candidates. Really on the opposite side of the Morrissey line,
- 32:16Speaker 9: you know, standing with those candidates that she favors being
- 32:21Speaker 9: on video on Facebook or Twitter or wherever, uh with
- 32:26Speaker 9: with video conversations that can be shared. And so you know,
- 32:32Speaker 9: that kind of split within the Republican Party itself with
- 32:37Speaker 9: sort of Kem Morrissey on one side and Team Capito
- 32:40Speaker 9: on the other. I think, you know, pretty intriguing. And
- 32:44Speaker 9: some of those canal races are are right there in
- 32:47Speaker 9: the mix.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and talk about that just a little bit. I
- 32:50Speaker 2: was looking into this and following your reporting on it,
- 32:53Speaker 2: and there is some things and I just want to
- 32:55Speaker 2: present this non judgmental, but just some facts that have
- 32:59Speaker 2: been on earth. I believe that the governors has a
- 33:03Speaker 2: pack that he's associated with, the Sugar Maple pack. That
- 33:08Speaker 2: thing has raised over half a million dollars so far.
- 33:11Speaker 2: And it's interesting because less than eight percent of the
- 33:13Speaker 2: contributions that that thing has that that thing is raised,
- 33:16Speaker 2: so nearly half a million dollars has come within the
- 33:18Speaker 2: state of West Virginia, so it's most of it that
- 33:20Speaker 2: that it's coming outside of that state, and with relatively
- 33:24Speaker 2: large donations as well. I think the average donation is
- 33:26Speaker 2: about twenty five thousand dollars, so These are definitely people
- 33:29Speaker 2: that are alongside of the governor's political ambitions and his views,
- 33:35Speaker 2: but not necessarily those within the state that that are
- 33:39Speaker 2: that are that are funding it. These are primarily coming
- 33:41Speaker 2: from outside the state.
- 33:44Speaker 9: Yeah, several hedge fund managers right at the top of
- 33:48Speaker 9: the giving chain for Sugar Maple Pack. One is Jeff
- 33:53Speaker 9: Yass who is leader of a hedge fund in his
- 33:59Speaker 9: residency and Sylvania. He's a mega downer to Republican and
- 34:03Speaker 9: libertarian causes, mostly on school choice issues highly motivated by
- 34:10Speaker 9: increased flexibility like school bouchers and stuff. Another hedge fund
- 34:15Speaker 9: manager Thomas W. Winstin Wwinston of New York City, who
- 34:19Speaker 9: is chairman of the board of trustees of the Fairmount Institute,
- 34:25Speaker 9: conservative think tank. Another hundred thousand dollars from him. Sean
- 34:30Speaker 9: Feiler of Stanford, Connecticut fifty thousand dollars from him one
- 34:35Speaker 9: hundred thousand dollars to Sugar Maple Pack from an entity
- 34:42Speaker 9: called Yes Dot Every Dot Kid. That is an organization
- 34:48Speaker 9: intending setting out to transform K through twelve education in
- 34:52Speaker 9: America through a family first approach. So really a common
- 34:55Speaker 9: theme of ultra rich folks and their common interest in
- 35:03Speaker 9: you know, school choice stuff, whether it's charter schools or
- 35:07Speaker 9: the kind of education vultures that in West Virginia are
- 35:10Speaker 9: presented through the Hope Scholarship. What I think is interesting is,
- 35:14Speaker 9: you know, if you're getting those flyers sent to your home, uh,
- 35:19Speaker 9: they don't really mention much about school choice or the
- 35:21Speaker 9: Hope Scholarship for preserving it or anything else. The theme
- 35:24Speaker 9: that I see in the in the flyers across my
- 35:28Speaker 9: I are, you know, these issues of transgender lifestyles and
- 35:35Speaker 9: illegal immigrants and the crackdown on on illegal immigrants. It's
- 35:42Speaker 9: I mean, it's it's very red meat flyers that are
- 35:45Speaker 9: being distributed, Whereas it really looks like these high profile
- 35:49Speaker 9: donors are are interested in this issue of school choice.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it is an interesting thing to think about. Where
- 35:55Speaker 2: the top donors if you talk about Gas and Clintonstein,
- 35:59Speaker 2: the cock that the Koch Foundation, who also is a
- 36:02Speaker 2: huge donor to this pack, and another hedge fund manager
- 36:07Speaker 2: out of Connecticut.
- 36:08Speaker 6: Pretty much all of these.
- 36:10Speaker 2: These main funders are all usually into school choice and
- 36:14Speaker 2: religious issues, but the flyers are all like immigration and
- 36:18Speaker 2: different things along those lines. I guess it's I guess
- 36:20Speaker 2: it depends on what gets the attention of the voters.
- 36:23Speaker 9: I mean, it is a primary election, it's it's off year.
- 36:27Speaker 9: So which you're thinking, I think, is that the most motivated,
- 36:32Speaker 9: you know, most conservative people will be the ones to
- 36:35Speaker 9: come out to vote. The calculation seems to be that
- 36:40Speaker 9: the you know, the issues that you see on the
- 36:42Speaker 9: flyers are the ones that are going to motivate these
- 36:44Speaker 9: folks to come out and do the voting, you know,
- 36:47Speaker 9: on the school choice issue. Honestly, the legislative session this year,
- 36:51Speaker 9: there was discussion of the Hope Scholarship, but nothing happened
- 36:57Speaker 9: except that it expanded this year, as it was already
- 37:00Speaker 9: intended to do so the first time, to all non
- 37:04Speaker 9: public school families. So it did an enormous expansion for people.
- 37:11Speaker 9: And then there were some discussions, particularly in the House
- 37:15Speaker 9: Finance Committee, of narrowing it down, narrowing down the guidelines
- 37:21Speaker 9: in some way, but that didn't happen. It never even
- 37:23Speaker 9: went to a committee vote. The only thing that came
- 37:26Speaker 9: out of that discussion at all was making payments to
- 37:30Speaker 9: families quarterly instead of twice a year. I mean, so
- 37:36Speaker 9: that's that's nothing to get your heart racing over. But
- 37:40Speaker 9: whatever has happened, you know, the governor and the political
- 37:44Speaker 9: action committees associated with his area of wesperchinir Republican politics
- 37:53Speaker 9: have been highly motivated, very active, and it seems like,
- 37:57Speaker 9: you know, some of the folks that they are going
- 38:00Speaker 9: after have been on you know, just the other side,
- 38:04Speaker 9: not even really doing anything, but the other side of
- 38:06Speaker 9: the school choice debate.
- 38:08Speaker 2: Yeah, like Finance Finance Chair Vernon Chris and vice chair
- 38:13Speaker 2: Clay Rally just suggested maybe some limits that didn't even
- 38:17Speaker 2: get past. But there they're targets going about this. Yeah,
- 38:19Speaker 2: David just were talking about it, right, and they are
- 38:21Speaker 2: targets of this. Following Brad mc laney's reporting, we were
- 38:24Speaker 2: talking about the Sugar Maple, but also Americans for Prosperity,
- 38:27Speaker 2: School Freedom Fund, Make Liberty Win Mountaineer Conservative Action about
- 38:33Speaker 2: one point six million dollars in Westervirginia legislative late races
- 38:37Speaker 2: all the way down to I mean the state level,
- 38:39Speaker 2: I mean in Conall County.
- 38:40Speaker 6: There has been a.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Fund nearly forty thousand dollars that's been putting into into
- 38:46Speaker 2: a candidate. From this fund, one of the governors preferred
- 38:49Speaker 2: in a county race forty thousand dollars in a county
- 38:51Speaker 2: race for one of the governor's preferred choices. Well, whatever
- 38:55Speaker 2: that means, just presenting the information for you. But it
- 38:57Speaker 2: is interesting because that's not something I think. Mitch Carmichael
- 38:59Speaker 2: had a quote about this, and he's been around the
- 39:03Speaker 2: government Leviathan a lot. He said, very unique as far
- 39:06Speaker 2: as he's as far as he's concerned, never say anything
- 39:08Speaker 2: like this before.
- 39:10Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, so I've written a bit about this.
- 39:14Speaker 9: I focused on you know this, this the spending by
- 39:18Speaker 9: this pack that's really directly associated with the governor. A
- 39:21Speaker 9: friend of the program, Stephen Allen Adams of the Augen Newspapers,
- 39:24Speaker 9: had a broader piece and then a follow up commentary
- 39:28Speaker 9: within the past few days. So if if you're listening
- 39:31Speaker 9: out there and you navigate to Stephen's Twitter feed or
- 39:35Speaker 9: any of the Augen newspapers like the Parkersburg Use, the Sentinel,
- 39:39Speaker 9: or the Wheeling Intelligencer, those articles are are there. The
- 39:44Speaker 9: main piece was a broad look at just all of
- 39:48Speaker 9: the enormous spending by a set of political action committees.
- 39:53Speaker 9: And then today Amelia Nicely, another friend of the program
- 39:56Speaker 9: from West Virginia Watch, has a perspective piece on all
- 40:00Speaker 9: of the spending with quotes and takes from a lot
- 40:04Speaker 9: of West Virginia political figures, all saying, like Mitch Carmichael
- 40:09Speaker 9: that this is, you know, really unprecedented spending and unprecedented
- 40:13Speaker 9: divisiveness within West Virginia's dominant political party.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Interesting stuff. So followed along wv Metronews dot com. Other
- 40:21Speaker 2: friends of the program like Amelia Nicely and Stephen al Adams,
- 40:25Speaker 2: like Brad, talked about following the story along. Information's the best,
- 40:30Speaker 2: the best armor and weapon for you. Brad, Do you

- 44:27Speaker 2: weeks ago. Is good checking into with chocolate White Chocolate.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Has been a long time since since I've since we've
- 44:35Speaker 2: done Meetia anyway with Jason Williams. So it's nice to
- 44:37Speaker 2: have him back on the airwaves around here. It was
- 44:38Speaker 2: nice talking to him earlier. So that's going to be
- 44:40Speaker 2: May first. Over at Gomork Ballpark. Brad Malcohaney is still
- 44:44Speaker 2: with me. Going to wrap up talking a little bit
- 44:46Speaker 2: about some of the state news with updating the situation
- 44:49Speaker 2: around the Greenbrier. Of course, US Senator gem Justice's family
- 44:52Speaker 2: owned Greenbrier Resort is locked in federal court with White
- 44:55Speaker 2: Software Springs Holdings, a newly formed a TRT Holdings affiliate
- 44:58Speaker 2: and Omni Hotels cousin, which purchased the nearly three hundred
- 45:02Speaker 2: million in first lean debt from Carter Bank and Trust
- 45:05Speaker 2: and immediately moved the moved it to receivership to appoint
- 45:09Speaker 2: a third party caretaker of the property. There's been a
- 45:11Speaker 2: lot of behind the scenes movement beyond this. Most recently
- 45:16Speaker 2: the hearing that was scheduled from a eleventh has been
- 45:19Speaker 2: moved to June eighth. And I think that's where, at
- 45:23Speaker 2: least at first plush where we stand right now.
- 45:25Speaker 6: Brad.
- 45:27Speaker 9: Yeah, And so you know, my big takeaway and I'm
- 45:31Speaker 9: just kind of reading the tea leaves about this, but
- 45:34Speaker 9: Omni the owner, the Texas billionaire owners of the Omni
- 45:38Speaker 9: resort chain, had filed for on an emergency basis a
- 45:44Speaker 9: receiver to be named as a third party caretaker for
- 45:48Speaker 9: the Greenbrier hotel because they said that that is their collateral.
- 45:55Speaker 9: They own the debt on the hotel, and they are
- 45:58Speaker 9: of the position the the justices have so many financial
- 46:05Speaker 9: strains that they cannot be trusted a to to not
- 46:09Speaker 9: divert money away from the hotel, b to do the
- 46:14Speaker 9: kind of deferred maintenance and management that is required to
- 46:19Speaker 9: keep up the property. And so they said, you know,
- 46:22Speaker 9: we need a third party caretaker to be named, you know,
- 46:26Speaker 9: pretty much immediately by the judge. So it was hot,
- 46:31Speaker 9: you know, they moved very swiftly, struck like lightning. And
- 46:37Speaker 9: the justices have you know, made their own filings, have
- 46:41Speaker 9: fought the matter. And you know, if you were to
- 46:46Speaker 9: run a gym justice playbook, which which I have been
- 46:49Speaker 9: subject to maybe four or five times over the years,
- 46:52Speaker 9: one of the plays will be slow it down. And
- 46:55Speaker 9: that is the phase that we appear to be in
- 46:58Speaker 9: now because both sides, the lawyers for the Omni owners
- 47:03Speaker 9: and the lawyers for the justices, filed together to ask
- 47:08Speaker 9: the judge to not go ahead with the hearing that
- 47:11Speaker 9: he had set for whatever the date was, May eleventh,
- 47:18Speaker 9: and instead to hold off that The judge agreed to
- 47:23Speaker 9: that and delayed by about a month. As a side note,
- 47:28Speaker 9: it's a little bit of a relief to me. The
- 47:30Speaker 9: hearing was going to happen day after Mother's Day and
- 47:33Speaker 9: day before election day, and I got things going on.
- 47:37Speaker 9: I do think it will be a hot news item,
- 47:41Speaker 9: but I got other things at that point. So it
- 47:43Speaker 9: helps with my personal schedule for it to be in
- 47:47Speaker 9: June instead.
- 47:47Speaker 6: But my other.
- 47:49Speaker 9: Takeaway is, all right, this is the cooling saucer, and
- 47:53Speaker 9: who knows what will happen next. I mean, I can't
- 47:55Speaker 9: tell you and the listeners how many times something it
- 47:58Speaker 9: seemed like an emergency when Jim Justice has said, you know,
- 48:04Speaker 9: it'll all be all right, and and you think, Bory,
- 48:07Speaker 9: how's he going to pull a rabbit out of this hat? Well,
- 48:10Speaker 9: you know, here we are pipity hop. There's a there's
- 48:13Speaker 9: a month cooling off period, and it appeared dire.
- 48:16Speaker 2: But we'll just see that's uh And there's more to
- 48:19Speaker 2: get into with this, but I have to cut your loose, Brad.
- 48:21Speaker 2: You've alread given me enough of your time in this story.
- 48:23Speaker 2: You can follow along at wv metro news dot com.
- 48:25Speaker 2: Brad's done a great job with it, all the informations
- 48:27Speaker 2: right there in a bit of a cooling phase right now.
- 48:29Speaker 2: As Brad has mentioned. Also, Brad doing a great job
- 48:31Speaker 2: in breaking down the spending for political actions here from
- 48:35Speaker 2: the governor of West Virginia in the Kenaw Valley especially, Brad,
- 48:39Speaker 2: thanks a lot for your time this morning. I know
- 48:40Speaker 2: that you've given me a lot of it, so I'll
- 48:42Speaker 2: cut you loosey. You can get about your day.
- 48:43Speaker 6: Thanks so much.
- 48:45Speaker 9: Hey, thanks stick here.
- 48:45Speaker 6: We'll talk to you later on.
- 48:46Speaker 2: That's Brad mcquhaney, the Metro News State House reporter and
- 48:49Speaker 2: most recent inductee into the Marshall Journalism Hall of Fame.
- 48:52Speaker 2: I didn't want to embarrass him on the air because
- 48:54Speaker 2: I know Brad the humble God. But we congratulate him
- 48:56Speaker 2: for that as well.
- 48:57Speaker 6: So let's do this. Let's take a break.
- 48:58Speaker 2: When we come back, We'll just check in with TJ
