- 0:14Speaker 2: This is the Best of Stugatz & Company live on
- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I want to start by asking Dan Beyer a quick
- 0:23Speaker 1: question here. He's a big Seahawks fan. Dan, what were
- 0:26Speaker 1: your thoughts? Kenneth Walker, one Super Bowl MVP for the Seahawks.
- 0:31Speaker 1: You love the Seahawks. And then Kenneth Walker, well, the
- 0:34Speaker 1: Seahawks decided to part ways with Kenneth Walker, and the
- 0:38Speaker 1: Chiefs decided to pick him up. What were your feelings
- 0:40Speaker 1: when you lost the Super Bowl MVP, Dan?
- 0:43Speaker 3: I was cool with it because I wasn't sure on
- 0:46Speaker 3: what Kenneth Walker, Kansas city would be getting at that time.
- 0:50Speaker 3: It seemed like Kenneth Walker really increased his free agent
- 0:54Speaker 3: value with the run. When Zach Charbonnet went down with
- 0:57Speaker 3: the injury, but he was splitting time with Charbonnet throughout
- 1:01Speaker 3: the past last season. So honestly, Stu, when he had
- 1:04Speaker 3: that great run in the playoffs, it was like, good
- 1:06Speaker 3: on you. Thanks for helping us win a super bowl
- 1:09Speaker 3: and best of luck, wherever you land in free agency.
- 1:12Speaker 1: And what have your feelings been thus far as you've
- 1:14Speaker 1: watched Kenneth Walker essentially be the MVP of the NFL
- 1:17Speaker 1: through four or five weeks here?
- 1:19Speaker 3: How was Kenneth Walker splitting reps with Zach Charbonnet all
- 1:22Speaker 3: of last season?
- 1:23Speaker 4: What is going on here?
- 1:26Speaker 5: It's true.
- 1:26Speaker 3: And there's even to make it worse. And again, you
- 1:30Speaker 3: can fall back. You and Taylor talk about this. Taylor
- 1:33Speaker 3: can always fall back. Well, the Knicks won, so no
- 1:34Speaker 3: matter what they did, it ended up working out for them.
- 1:38Speaker 3: But they also gave Rashid Shaheed a contract that pays
- 1:40Speaker 3: him about $ 17 million a year. Kenneth Walker's making less,
- 1:44Speaker 3: and now you see what Kenneth Walker's doing to the Chiefs,
- 1:47Speaker 3: and you can kind of scratch your head and say, huh?
- 1:50Speaker 3: But at the time, I was cool with it.
- 1:53Speaker 1: So the reason– and you should have been cool with
- 1:55Speaker 1: it because you have to prioritize. There's only so much
- 1:58Speaker 1: money you could fit under the NFL salary cap. And, Dan,
- 2:02Speaker 1: the reason I'm confused is– If Kenneth Walker is indeed
- 2:06Speaker 1: the MVP, and you can make that argument through four weeks,
- 2:09Speaker 1: he has been as valuable to his team as any
- 2:11Speaker 1: player in the NFL.
- 2:13Speaker 5: But the Seahawks are 3-1 without him.
- 2:16Speaker 1: And so I just, I'm not certain what to do
- 2:19Speaker 1: in terms of defining the value of having Kenneth Walker
- 2:23Speaker 1: on your team.
- 2:24Speaker 5: Does that make sense?
- 2:24Speaker 4: That makes total sense.
- 2:25Speaker 3: And coming off of a game yesterday where Emmanuel Wilson
- 2:28Speaker 3: ran really well against the Chargers, ended up having 80
- 2:31Speaker 3: yards on the ground, a touchdown, also had a receiving touchdown.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Emmanuel Wilson is supposed to be the backup to Jadarian Price,
- 2:38Speaker 3: the rookie who's hurt.
- 2:39Speaker 4: And Zach Charbonnet hasn't even played yet.
- 2:41Speaker 3: So you're talking about what would essentially be the third
- 2:43Speaker 3: most important running back this season ends up scoring two touchdowns.
- 2:48Speaker 3: And when you're paying him, you know, minimal amount of dollars,
- 2:52Speaker 3: it makes it that much easier to see Kenneth Walker
- 2:54Speaker 3: do what he did.
- 2:55Speaker 4: And what he's been doing.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Yes, but do you think he'd be doing this on
- 2:59Speaker 5: the Seahawks?
- 3:01Speaker 3: Probably not, because he'd be spinning snaps with Emmanuel Wilson
- 3:04Speaker 3: or George Helani or Jadarian Price at that point.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:08Speaker 3: And there's an injury history there, and I don't want
- 3:10Speaker 3: to jinx anybody with that, but there was some questions
- 3:14Speaker 3: about his durability. I don't think that his explosiveness and
- 3:18Speaker 3: his big play potential was ever in question, which had
- 3:22Speaker 3: a lot of Seahawks fans last year wondering why. why
- 3:25Speaker 3: there was this split between the two. It was just
- 3:27Speaker 3: a matter of can you keep Kenneth Walker healthy throughout
- 3:30Speaker 3: the entire season? It ended up working out magnificently for them.
- 3:34Speaker 3: The Charbonnet injury happened at a time where you could
- 3:36Speaker 3: then solely rely on Walker, and he is the Super
- 3:38Speaker 3: Bowl MVP.
- 3:40Speaker 5: But we're four.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Weeks in here, and I think John Schneider would tell
- 3:42Speaker 3: you it was more about paying a running back that
- 3:45Speaker 3: amount of money with questions about his durability.
- 3:48Speaker 1: That's why I'm so torn, because the Chiefs have won, what,
- 3:50Speaker 1: four Super Bowls without a guy like Kenneth Walker.
- 3:53Speaker 5: Yeah, right.
- 3:54Speaker 1: And now everyone's talking about him as the NFL MVP,
- 3:56Speaker 1: and I'm not saying they're wrong. But it's hard to
- 3:59Speaker 1: define a guy or call a guy an MVP when
- 4:01Speaker 1: the team that he left is still successful and still
- 4:04Speaker 1: playing at a very high level. I'm just I don't
- 4:06Speaker 1: know what to do with the player. And I'm wondering,
- 4:09Speaker 1: as a Seahawks fan, are you upset perhaps because maybe
- 4:13Speaker 1: they use Kenneth Walker the correct way?
- 4:15Speaker 5: Because the Chiefs are. I mean, they are. And I
- 4:17Speaker 5: understand the injury history. I get all of it.
- 4:19Speaker 1: But as a Seahawks fan, you have to be a
- 4:21Speaker 1: little bit perplexed. Hey, why didn't we use Kenneth Walker
- 4:25Speaker 1: the way Andy Reid is using Kenneth Walker?
- 4:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's natural. And I think that there
- 4:30Speaker 3: are fans that are wondering why did that end up happening. Especially, too,
- 4:34Speaker 3: because they didn't run the ball great against Washington in
- 4:37Speaker 3: Week 3, which ends up kind of being their— it is
- 4:40Speaker 3: their lone blemish on the schedule. But again, the fact is, Stu—
- 4:46Speaker 3: Maybe Kenneth Walker ends up emerging the way that he
- 4:49Speaker 3: did because of all that was at stake for the Seahawks.
- 4:52Speaker 3: He made himself a lot of money during that playoff
- 4:55Speaker 3: run and in that Super Bowl. And I don't think
- 4:58Speaker 3: that when they parted ways, you knew he probably wasn't
- 5:01Speaker 3: going to come back. There were certain guys you knew
- 5:03Speaker 3: on the team last year that weren't going to come back.
- 5:05Speaker 3: But I'll just go back to the Taylor-Nicks thing. They
- 5:07Speaker 3: won the title. You've said this to Taylor many times.
- 5:09Speaker 3: No matter what they did, whether it was a right
- 5:11Speaker 3: or wrong decision, it was a decision that led them
- 5:13Speaker 3: to win the Super Bowl.
- 5:14Speaker 4: And for that, I can't be mad at.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Now it seems like he's determined to make Seattle eat
- 5:19Speaker 1: it and win a Super Bowl for Kansas City.
- 5:21Speaker 5: I'm sorry, Dan.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Again, Emmanuel Wilson, who was the backup in Green Bay
- 5:29Speaker 3: to be the backup in Seattle, comes in.
- 5:31Speaker 5: I know.
- 5:32Speaker 3: And has a great game against the Chargers. Now, if
- 5:33Speaker 3: Kenneth Walker can make Sam Darnold not throw dumb interceptions,
- 5:37Speaker 3: that's a whole other story.
- 5:38Speaker 4: That's a completely different situation.
- 5:40Speaker 3: And maybe it was Kenneth Walker's emergence that made Darnold
- 5:43Speaker 3: not turn the football over or throwing it directly to
- 5:46Speaker 3: opponents for the second straight week. Maybe that was the
- 5:49Speaker 3: reason why. But, man, it's great to see what he's doing,
- 5:53Speaker 3: but I can't take back from what happened last year
- 5:57Speaker 3: because they.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Won it all. 877-99 on Fox. I'll get to your
- 6:01Speaker 1: calls here.
- 6:02Speaker 5: Just a second.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I don't know if you watched the Raiders Chiefs game yesterday,
- 6:08Speaker 1: but the announcers were telling a story of how Patrick
- 6:11Speaker 1: Mahomes was sitting on one of those injury tables. He's
- 6:14Speaker 1: being worked on. He's being stretched out and he's watching
- 6:17Speaker 1: television and he's studying running backs. And there pops up
- 6:21Speaker 1: Kenneth Walker on his screen. And he calls all the coaches,
- 6:25Speaker 1: and he really popped out of the television for Patrick Mahomes.
- 6:29Speaker 5: He's like, wow, that guy's really talented.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I would love to have him as the Chiefs running back,
- 6:34Speaker 1: but there's no way Seattle is going to part with him.
- 6:37Speaker 1: He then picked up the phone, called the coaches, and said, hey,
- 6:39Speaker 1: if Kenneth Walker becomes available, go get that guy.
- 6:43Speaker 5: We need him. He'll be great for us.
- 6:45Speaker 1: So I am just wondering, and I do believe— that
- 6:49Speaker 1: you wish harm upon Kenneth Walker this year but I
- 6:52Speaker 1: am wondering when you hear Mahomes when you hear that
- 6:55Speaker 1: story being told and Mahomes is identifying just how talented
- 6:59Speaker 1: this player is doesn't it make you question John Schneider
- 7:02Speaker 1: just a little bit.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Who's Patrick Mahomes he hasn't won a Super Bowl in
- 7:06Speaker 3: two years seriously who does he think he is.
- 7:11Speaker 5: You're right. He's a guy who's about to get to re-kill.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been at least over two years since they've
- 7:17Speaker 3: won a Super Bowl, so I don't know why Patrick
- 7:19Speaker 3: Mahomes thinks he can talk or he's this great big
- 7:23Speaker 3: scout now.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I don't understand.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Walker was off free agency. We have that little window
- 7:30Speaker 3: of free agency where it's not free agency, but it is.
- 7:34Speaker 4: It's underway.
- 7:35Speaker 3: And Kenneth Walker was in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform,
- 7:37Speaker 3: I feel like, five minutes after that.
- 7:39Speaker 4: That timeline started in.
- 7:41Speaker 5: That sort of, you know, sprint sprinted there.
- 7:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Like it was like a foregone conclusion that he was
- 7:46Speaker 3: going there. It happened, happened pretty quick.
- 7:49Speaker 1: The Raiders and chiefs. I, the Raiders for me had
- 7:52Speaker 1: the best loss of the weekend. No losses are good,
- 7:55Speaker 1: but if there's a good loss, that was it against
- 7:58Speaker 1: the chiefs. They were in that game till the very end.
- 8:00Speaker 1: And if there was a bad win, it was the
- 8:01Speaker 1: Green Bay Packers.
- 8:02Speaker 5: You agree?
- 8:03Speaker 4: Gosh.
- 8:04Speaker 5: What a terrible win. He should be fired after that win, LeFleur.
- 8:07Speaker 3: It's not a hit piece because I think a lot
- 8:10Speaker 3: of it is true from Ty Dunn the day before
- 8:12Speaker 3: and how LeFleur and then people are all getting in
- 8:15Speaker 3: line to give their Matt LeFleur stories.
- 8:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:18Speaker 4: When you almost lose to Jalen Daniels.
- 8:22Speaker 3: In his debut, and he turns the football over twice,
- 8:25Speaker 3: and you still, and Green Bay, like, Green Bay has
- 8:27Speaker 3: got a little something with Jordan Love and Christian Watson
- 8:30Speaker 3: and Matthew Golden. Like, that trio could be very good
- 8:33Speaker 3: in a few years. You just need to keep Jordan
- 8:36Speaker 3: Love upright, and you need to get Matt LaFleur out
- 8:39Speaker 3: of town. Yeah, just an absolutely awful win. It really,
- 8:42Speaker 3: it was for, and now the Packers and the Bears
- 8:44Speaker 3: come into town.
- 8:46Speaker 1: The Vikings are the worst 4-0 team in NFL history.
- 8:48Speaker 1: The Broncos are the best 2-2 team in NFL history.
- 8:53Speaker 5: And that concludes my.
- 8:55Speaker 1: NFL discussion for today. Let's take a quick call here.
- 9:00Speaker 1: He's always there. Let's go to Al in Albuquerque. He
- 9:02Speaker 1: wants to talk.
- 9:03Speaker 5: About the worst 4-0 team in NFL history. Go ahead, Al.
- 9:07Speaker 7: Yeah, that's right, Stu Goss, 22nd time, long time here.
- 9:10Speaker 8: And, you know, the Vikings are one of those, as
- 9:14Speaker 8: a Jets fan, you could probably relate. They're one of
- 9:15Speaker 8: the few franchises in sports where you can name their
- 9:18Speaker 8: top five losses right off the top of your head,
- 9:21Speaker 8: even if you're not a Vikings fan. And that's if
- 9:23Speaker 8: you ignore, even if you ignore all four Super Bowl losses.
- 9:27Speaker 8: So that's what we're dealing with here.
- 9:29Speaker 7: So I am qualified to say this is the worst
- 9:31Speaker 7: 4-0 the Vikings have ever been in their history ever.
- 9:36Speaker 7: I don't like Tyler Murray. We need to stop treating
- 9:38Speaker 7: Tyler Murray. Like he's actually good.
- 9:40Speaker 6: He could run around.
- 9:42Speaker 7: He could be like a joystick highlight, real guy. That's fine.
- 9:45Speaker 7: But let me ask you this too. If, if they
- 9:48Speaker 7: redrafted the 2024 draft, would JJ McCarthy even go in
- 9:52Speaker 7: the fifth round? That's the pick they got for him.
- 9:55Speaker 7: Would he be a fifth round pick in that draft?
- 9:57Speaker 4: Because I don't think he would.
- 9:58Speaker 7: I think he is the worst since Christian Ponder, the
- 10:02Speaker 7: worst first overall pick any team has had. Just the
- 10:05Speaker 7: worst reach ever. Why am I so mad the Vikings
- 10:08Speaker 7: are 4-0?
- 10:09Speaker 3: How about TJ Hawkinson going down at the one just
- 10:20Speaker 3: to run out the clock only for the next day,
- 10:23Speaker 3: all of social media to put a Vikings highlight film.
- 10:26Speaker 4: And it's all field goals.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Like if you have the touchdown and you win 22
- 10:30Speaker 3: to 10, you don't have that sort of content, but
- 10:34Speaker 3: because TJ Hawkinson was a team player and made the
- 10:36Speaker 3: smart play, it gave every Vikings hater fodder to just
- 10:40Speaker 3: put together a montage of field goal after field goal
- 10:43Speaker 3: yesterday against the dolphins.
- 10:45Speaker 5: Thank you for the call out.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Dan, I actually have the 2024 draft pulled up on
- 10:50Speaker 1: my computer here.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Caleb would still be number one.
- 10:53Speaker 6: Fair.
- 10:54Speaker 5: Yes.
- 10:54Speaker 6: Yes.
- 10:55Speaker 1: This is knowing what we know now. OK, because Al
- 10:58Speaker 1: asked a very interesting question.
- 11:00Speaker 5: Would J.J.
- 11:00Speaker 1: McCarthy go anywhere in the first five rounds knowing what
- 11:04Speaker 1: we know now? And I think the answer is no,
- 11:06Speaker 1: he would not knowing what we know now. But how
- 11:08Speaker 1: about Jaden Daniels? Would he still go number two or
- 11:11Speaker 1: would Drake May, who won three, would he go number two?
- 11:13Speaker 3: I think May would go number two because now you
- 11:17Speaker 3: have an injury history with Jaden Daniels.
- 11:19Speaker 5: Yes.
- 11:20Speaker 4: That you wouldn't have with Drake May.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Actually, Dan, knowing what we know now, I believe Bo
- 11:25Speaker 1: Nix would be the second pick in the 2024 draft.
- 11:29Speaker 5: Don't be ridiculous, Stu. Come on. Well, how am I
- 11:32Speaker 5: being ridiculous? Because Marvin Harrison Jr., I don't believe he'd
- 11:35Speaker 5: be a first-round pick, knowing what we know now.
- 11:37Speaker 6: No.
- 11:37Speaker 5: He went fourth in that draft. Yes.
- 11:39Speaker 6: Yes.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Why, you feel like I'm being ridiculous by saying Bo
- 11:42Speaker 1: Nix would go ahead of both Jaden Daniels and Drake May?
- 11:46Speaker 5: If we knew what we knew today, I mean.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Yeah, the Broncos offense right now is something. And that
- 11:54Speaker 3: doesn't mean it's good. They don't have a running game.
- 11:56Speaker 3: They paid all that money for Jalen Waddell, and he's
- 11:59Speaker 3: pretty much useless right now.
- 12:01Speaker 5: Yeah, had a touchdown yesterday.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Well, yeah, they lost by 10. They scored 14 points.
- 12:06Speaker 5: No, I know, but look at that schedule, though, for
- 12:08Speaker 5: the Broncos.
- 12:09Speaker 1: The reason I'm saying they're the best 2-2 team ever,
- 12:12Speaker 1: they lost at Kansas City.
- 12:14Speaker 5: They got blown out.
- 12:15Speaker 1: They beat Jacksonville. Many people consider Jacksonville to be the
- 12:18Speaker 1: best team in the NFL, perhaps.
- 12:20Speaker 5: They beat the Rams.
- 12:21Speaker 1: The Rams were the best team in the NFL headed
- 12:23Speaker 1: into the season, and they lost to the Niners on
- 12:25Speaker 1: the road by 10 points.
- 12:26Speaker 5: They're a good team, Dan. That's all I'm saying.
- 12:28Speaker 3: I think they're a good team, but there's a reason
- 12:30Speaker 3: why there's rumblings with Davis Webb and the play calling
- 12:33Speaker 3: and Sean Payton. I mean, the QB rating of Bo Nix,
- 12:39Speaker 3: excuse me, over these last four games, I almost called
- 12:42Speaker 3: him Drew Brees, that it hasn't been stellar. So I
- 12:47Speaker 3: still think the jury's out with Bo Nix. I would
- 12:49Speaker 3: rather have Jane Daniels than Bo Nix. I will say that.
- 12:53Speaker 5: Yeah, but he gets hurt a lot. I understand.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd probably go, I'd probably, well, I'd take Caleb one.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I would take Bo Nix two. I would go Jade
- 13:02Speaker 1: in three.
- 13:03Speaker 5: And then Drake May. At four. Did you find it funny?
- 13:08Speaker 1: Drake May, who last week I called a clown playing
- 13:12Speaker 1: quarterback in a circus tent. He seemed to figure it out.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And everyone in New England, they went from hating Drake May.
- 13:21Speaker 1: It's Rabel's fault. And if it wasn't Rabel's fault, it
- 13:23Speaker 1: was Diana Rossini's fault.
- 13:25Speaker 5: And then and then.
- 13:26Speaker 1: But now they're back with Drake May and they love
- 13:28Speaker 1: Rabel again. I love sports fans.
- 13:31Speaker 5: I do. I love sports fans so much, except for
- 13:33Speaker 5: the ones. who live in the city of Philadelphia.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
- 13:42Speaker 2: live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific on
- 13:46Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Mike Ditka passes away today at the age of 86.
- 13:54Speaker 1: We have some sound here. Taylor, you have sound of
- 13:56Speaker 1: Mike Ditka's that before we get to Mikey A's top
- 13:59Speaker 1: five games.
- 14:00Speaker 5: Of the weekend coming up here. Mike Ditka passed.
- 14:03Speaker 6: Away, 86.
- 14:03Speaker 1: He is just one of those figures in the NFL.
- 14:08Speaker 5: That is larger than life.
- 14:09Speaker 1: But I'm not certain many people, especially the younger portion
- 14:13Speaker 1: of the audience, really knows about Mike Ditka and what
- 14:16Speaker 1: Mike Ditka.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Was all about. You have sound that would lend to
- 14:18Speaker 5: what Mike Ditka was all about, right?
- 14:20Speaker 9: Yeah, we have two sounds that kind of encapsulate who
- 14:22Speaker 9: Mike Ditka was as a person. And, Stu, you mentioned
- 14:25Speaker 9: the younger generation not really knowing much about Mike Ditka
- 14:28Speaker 9: in terms of the football player or the football coach.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Yep.
- 14:31Speaker 9: Revolutionary for that tight end position where a tight end
- 14:34Speaker 9: putting up a thousand yards receiving in a 14 game
- 14:37Speaker 9: season in 1961.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Yes.
- 14:39Speaker 9: Would be like the equivalent of a receiver putting up
- 14:41Speaker 9: like 3000 yards today in a single season.
- 14:44Speaker 1: A great player, great coach, only guy in NFL history
- 14:48Speaker 1: to win a Superbowl as a head coach, a player
- 14:50Speaker 1: and an assistant coach.
- 14:51Speaker 5: How about that?
- 14:52Speaker 9: And he he's a coach that looks like, like if
- 14:55Speaker 9: you were making a list of, Coaches that look like
- 14:58Speaker 9: they can't wait to punch you square.
- 14:59Speaker 5: Between the nose.
- 15:01Speaker 9: It's Mike Ditka's list.
- 15:03Speaker 5: It's him and Marty Schottenheimer. Wow. Woody Hayes? Well, Woody
- 15:07Speaker 5: Hayes did it. Buddy Ryan, too.
- 15:09Speaker 9: Looks like he couldn't wait.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Well, Buddy Ryan got in a fight with Mike Ditka.
- 15:13Speaker 9: Can I throw out a surprise name I think that
- 15:16Speaker 9: would fit in this list of coaches that look like
- 15:17Speaker 9: they can't wait to punch you square between the nose?
- 15:19Speaker 1: So these are coaches who can't wait to punch you
- 15:23Speaker 1: in the.
- 15:23Speaker 6: Face, right?
- 15:24Speaker 9: Square between the nose, yeah.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Okay.
- 15:25Speaker 5: All right. Yeah, go ahead.
- 15:27Speaker 9: Bo Pelini.
- 15:28Speaker 5: It's a good one.
- 15:32Speaker 6: Yes. It isn't bad. Yes. Does Vrabel, does Vrabel want
- 15:35Speaker 6: to punch you right in the face? He's got a
- 15:37Speaker 6: little bit of a sourpuss on him.
- 15:38Speaker 9: Like a snarl, yeah.
- 15:39Speaker 5: Yeah, he does have a snarl. I'm trying to think.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Does Mike Singletary look like someone who wants to punch
- 15:43Speaker 1: a square in the face?
- 15:44Speaker 9: That's a good one.
- 15:45Speaker 5: Who do you want to punch in the face? Mike
- 15:48Speaker 5: McDaniel for me. Mike McDaniel. Yeah.
- 15:51Speaker 9: Or like the kicker that comes in and misses a
- 15:53Speaker 9: big kick. Like Mike Ditka would have punched that kicker
- 15:56Speaker 9: between the nose.
- 15:56Speaker 5: He had a great kicker. Kevin Butler never missed a kick.
- 15:59Speaker 1: That team was one of the all-time great teams in
- 16:01Speaker 1: NFL history. He was the head coach of perhaps. They
- 16:04Speaker 1: didn't go undefeated. They lost to the Dolphins on a
- 16:07Speaker 1: Monday night. Dan Marino had a great game offensively. But
- 16:12Speaker 1: that is one of the five greatest teams, I could
- 16:15Speaker 1: say that safely, in NFL history. And I think many
- 16:18Speaker 1: people would say that the 85 Bears, with Mike Ditka
- 16:22Speaker 1: as their head coach, was the greatest team in NFL history.
- 16:25Speaker 5: Israel Gutierrez is in studio with us. His weekends are
- 16:28Speaker 5: getting a lot shorter. 877-99 on Fox. Gary Sheffield.
- 16:36Speaker 1: He's going to join us in about 15 minutes. John
- 16:39Speaker 1: Starks is going to join us in hour number two.
- 16:42Speaker 5: I'm excited for that.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Izzy, I'm nervous here, though, because I'm tempted to play
- 16:48Speaker 1: one of Taylor's Jalen Brunson songs for John Starks. But
- 16:52Speaker 1: John Starks, he seems like a serious guy. I feel
- 16:56Speaker 1: like we'll be wasting Starks' time with a Brunson song.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I'm not certain what to do here.
- 17:00Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 17:02Speaker 10: First of all, you're right.
- 17:03Speaker 11: I do think he seems like a serious dude, right?
- 17:05Speaker 11: Wasn't he the guy that was like, isn't he a
- 17:07Speaker 11: kurt werner story like bagging groceries one month and then
- 17:10Speaker 11: all of a sudden he's on the knicks a year
- 17:11Speaker 11: later playing in a game seven right but i don't
- 17:15Speaker 11: think he's that serious anymore especially now that the knicks
- 17:19Speaker 11: have won it like i don't even know what we're
- 17:20Speaker 11: talking to him about but i can't imagine it's anything
- 17:22Speaker 11: very serious it's got to be just hey how are
- 17:24Speaker 11: these how are you feeling about the knicks still yeah
- 17:27Speaker 11: but i think he can take a.
- 17:27Speaker 9: Good easy i'm sweating already at the thought of john
- 17:30Speaker 9: stark's having to sit through one of my songs you
- 17:32Speaker 9: should I don't want anything really to do with that experience.
- 17:36Speaker 9: If you ask Taylor in 2004, a fourth grade Taylor.
- 17:40Speaker 6: Yes.
- 17:41Speaker 9: Name two people you want on the show. Derek Jeter
- 17:44Speaker 9: would be number one. But let's say Derek Jeter was
- 17:46Speaker 9: unavailable that day.
- 17:47Speaker 5: Right.
- 17:47Speaker 10: What show is fourth grade Taylor discussing here?
- 17:49Speaker 4: This show.
- 17:50Speaker 9: This hypothetical show.
- 17:51Speaker 5: He already knows. He's saying he's producing.
- 17:53Speaker 9: We're going back in time.
- 17:54Speaker 5: Okay. So back in 2004, how old were you? fourth
- 17:57Speaker 5: grade okay fourth grade all right you said that it's.
- 17:59Speaker 9: Just easier for me because whatever the year was that's
- 18:02Speaker 9: what grade i was in got it okay so if
- 18:05Speaker 9: you go back to fourth grade taylor and say name
- 18:07Speaker 9: two people you want on the show assuming derrick cheater
- 18:09Speaker 9: is unavailable i might tell you gary sheffield and john
- 18:12Speaker 9: starks over patrick ewing oh yeah starks was like oh
- 18:17Speaker 9: easy you have to consider the fact that i'm like
- 18:18Speaker 9: five foot nine yes like i i can't really relate
- 18:21Speaker 9: with patrick ewing being a a Big man.
- 18:24Speaker 1: If we asked today's Taylor, the two guests he would
- 18:26Speaker 1: most want on the show, who would they be?
- 18:29Speaker 9: Oh, it's still Derek Jeter and Cam Schluter probably and
- 18:31Speaker 9: Jalen Brunson.
- 18:32Speaker 5: No, it would be Brunson. It has to be Brunson, right?
- 18:34Speaker 5: It's still Derek Jeter.
- 18:35Speaker 6: It's always Derek Jeter. Hang on a second.
- 18:36Speaker 11: You've seen Derek Jeter on all of these talk shows.
- 18:39Speaker 11: You've seen him be terrible at basically talking, and you
- 18:42Speaker 11: still want him to be your guest.
- 18:44Speaker 9: Yeah, I really don't care. I just kind of want
- 18:45Speaker 9: to be in the presence of Derek Jeter.
- 18:47Speaker 10: You just want to stare at him as all it is.
- 18:48Speaker 5: Right. Trusting me to get the most out of Derek Jeter.
- 18:52Speaker 9: Yeah, Stu would be like, Taylor, ask a question. I go,
- 18:54Speaker 9: I don't have any.
- 18:55Speaker 5: I just want to stare at Jeter, the captain. Jeets.
- 18:58Speaker 5: Remember that championship? Oh, that was great.
- 19:03Speaker 1: So Taylor's dream show in 2004 is happening today. Gary
- 19:07Speaker 1: Sheffield at about 10 minutes and John Starks in our
- 19:10Speaker 1: number two. Izzy gives me, I'm just going to be
- 19:14Speaker 1: honest with the audience, a list of topics of things
- 19:16Speaker 1: he would like to discuss. And he does it in
- 19:18Speaker 1: a way because he knows I'm not following all of this.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I'm certainly not following the NBA now. And he is
- 19:23Speaker 1: always following the NBA.
- 19:25Speaker 10: You're too busy following the WNBA?
- 19:27Speaker 5: Yes, the playoffs. And hockey. Hockey has started. Panthers, big
- 19:31Speaker 5: win last night. Kachuk with a big goal. First lead
- 19:33Speaker 5: of the season for the Panthers. Which Kachuk? I'm gambling again.
- 19:39Speaker 5: But what is going on here with Joel Embiid? I'm
- 19:42Speaker 5: tired of him. LeBron James, I'm tired of him. Mike Breen,
- 19:46Speaker 5: never tired of him. So there was a preseason.
- 19:50Speaker 11: Game on the other night and Mike Breen, who he's
- 19:54Speaker 11: not a reporter, obviously.
- 19:56Speaker 5: Right.
- 19:56Speaker 11: But he is somebody who even when he goes on
- 19:59Speaker 11: air with something, it's.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Got to be like rock solid.
- 20:02Speaker 11: Yeah, he's He is not going on air because he
- 20:05Speaker 11: heard something third hand that might have happened.
- 20:08Speaker 5: He has earned maximum credibility. Yeah. If he's bringing something
- 20:11Speaker 5: to air, it's true. I think.
- 20:13Speaker 6: Yes.
- 20:14Speaker 11: It's not like, you know, he's got unserious now that
- 20:16Speaker 11: the Knicks have won a championship since he's been calling it.
- 20:19Speaker 1: So although Breen is wacky, I mean, keep in mind,
- 20:22Speaker 1: he did updates for I miss. He's got a sneaky,
- 20:24Speaker 1: good sense of humor.
- 20:25Speaker 5: He does. Mike Breen.
- 20:27Speaker 11: I would not associate wacky with Mike Breen. I'm going
- 20:29Speaker 11: to have to hear that for myself. You know him better,
- 20:32Speaker 11: so that's fair.
- 20:32Speaker 5: But he said that there was a.
- 20:35Speaker 11: Practice recently and Joel Embiid was a little late because
- 20:38Speaker 11: the other guys were already on the floor and that
- 20:40Speaker 11: LeBron James let him have it. And then LeBron James said,
- 20:46Speaker 11: I think via social media, that that was a lie,
- 20:49Speaker 11: that he wasn't late.
- 20:50Speaker 5: Stop lying.
- 20:52Speaker 9: Now.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 20:53Speaker 11: This is a credibility off, I think, between Joel Embiid,
- 20:58Speaker 11: LeBron James, and Mike Breen.
- 21:00Speaker 5: Right.
- 21:00Speaker 11: I think in terms of telling the truth... Mike Breen
- 21:05Speaker 11: versus LeBron James is a mismatch because LeBron lies.
- 21:08Speaker 6: All the time.
- 21:09Speaker 5: I would say it's the greatest mismatch in sports.
- 21:11Speaker 9: Yeah, Izzy, I think LeBron's on his, like, what, 40th
- 21:14Speaker 9: rewatch of The Godfather?
- 21:16Speaker 5: Yeah, seriously.
- 21:17Speaker 11: Still can't pick a favorite scene. And, yeah, he knew
- 21:21Speaker 11: that Kobe's 81 was coming. He just knew it that day.
- 21:25Speaker 11: And then you also have the credibility off between Mike
- 21:28Speaker 11: Breen and Joel Embiid, or even LeBron and Joel Embiid, like,
- 21:32Speaker 11: The idea that Joel Embiid would be late to practice
- 21:35Speaker 11: is pretty much a ho-hum thought, right? It's not like
- 21:37Speaker 11: something you'd be like, no, unbelievable, that guy. Of course,
- 21:41Speaker 11: given what you've heard from him, given other people who
- 21:44Speaker 11: have questioned his professionalism, like, the idea that he's going
- 21:48Speaker 11: to be late to a practice is not a shocker.
- 21:50Speaker 1: I think the shocking thing would be if he showed
- 21:52Speaker 1: up right on time or five minutes early.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Right?
- 21:54Speaker 6: Yes.
- 21:55Speaker 9: Yeah, but couldn't you guys make the argument that in
- 21:57Speaker 9: terms of LeBron James, like, This is not really something,
- 22:01Speaker 9: if you're LeBron James, I don't think you want to
- 22:03Speaker 9: be disputing. Michael Jordan ripped into teammates. Kobe Bryant ripped
- 22:07Speaker 9: into teammates. And look at the way that we kind
- 22:09Speaker 9: of hold those guys up on pedestals being like, this
- 22:12Speaker 9: is the kind of teammate you want to be.
- 22:14Speaker 11: That's exactly my thought. When I heard that, it was like,
- 22:17Speaker 11: wait a second. Is it just that you want to
- 22:19Speaker 11: deny whatever it is that people say about you? Is
- 22:22Speaker 11: it just that you want to be liked by so
- 22:24Speaker 11: many people that you don't want to hear potential negative backlash?
- 22:29Speaker 11: Is it that it didn't happen and that somebody told
- 22:32Speaker 11: Mike Breen a BS story and that he got unlucky
- 22:35Speaker 11: in all this? But I think, again, based on the
- 22:38Speaker 11: history of all three of these people, I didn't even
- 22:41Speaker 11: think it was a big deal.
- 22:43Speaker 10: Like I thought LeBron would have been like. Yeah, okay, and?
- 22:46Speaker 10: If anybody's late, I'm going to yell at them.
- 22:47Speaker 5: That's what I was brought here to do.
- 22:49Speaker 6: Right.
- 22:49Speaker 10: I didn't come here. I didn't leave my family to.
- 22:52Speaker 11: Wait for Joel Embiid to get to practice before we
- 22:55Speaker 11: can start practicing.
- 22:56Speaker 9: Izzy, do you think any part of LeBron James and
- 22:59Speaker 9: why he's getting so defensive is he feels a little
- 23:01Speaker 9: bit of guilt that Joel Embiid was late to practice
- 23:03Speaker 9: and he should have let him use his helicopter?
- 23:07Speaker 5: From New York City? Yeah.
- 23:09Speaker 9: Pick up Joel on the way.
- 23:12Speaker 5: That's a great you know what? That's a great point.
- 23:15Speaker 5: It's an unfair advantage for LeBron.
- 23:16Speaker 11: I mean, he's very stealthily going to be late, like
- 23:19Speaker 11: he's probably going to be an hour early every time.
- 23:21Speaker 5: So how is traffic?
- 23:22Speaker 10: What do you mean traffic?
- 23:22Speaker 6: Right.
- 23:23Speaker 5: But yeah, I do think.
- 23:25Speaker 10: But the part about this is just like it's odd.
- 23:27Speaker 6: Yes.
- 23:27Speaker 11: Well, how much, you know, slack do you need to
- 23:30Speaker 11: give Joel Embiid again? Because unless every report about people
- 23:35Speaker 11: questioning his professionalism over the years has been wrong, has
- 23:38Speaker 11: been a flat-out lie, then again, I don't think.
- 23:41Speaker 10: This is a big deal at all. I don't care
- 23:43Speaker 10: if it's LeBron James.
- 23:44Speaker 11: In fact, it would be strange if it was somebody
- 23:47Speaker 11: other than LeBron James.
- 23:49Speaker 10: Maybe even, I would be okay if Jalen.
- 23:51Speaker 11: Brown said, yeah, I yelled at him because he was
- 23:54Speaker 11: late and that's not how you win a championship. I
- 23:56Speaker 11: would know I've won a championship. LeBron having gotten there
- 23:59Speaker 11: again to, he didn't leave his family to lose in
- 24:02Speaker 11: the second round, right? Which is going to live with
- 24:03Speaker 11: him forever if he loses in the second round these
- 24:05Speaker 11: next two seasons.
- 24:06Speaker 4: But, uh.
- 24:07Speaker 11: He didn't leave his family to lose in the second round.
- 24:10Speaker 11: If you're going to set these championship habits, you've got
- 24:12Speaker 11: to do it right from the start.
- 24:14Speaker 4: So I'm with you, Taylor.
- 24:15Speaker 11: He should have been boasting that he went off on
- 24:18Speaker 11: Joel Embiid and then said, but we're teammates. Of course,
- 24:20Speaker 11: he's going to take it well.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Mike Breen is telling a story that paints LeBron
- 24:24Speaker 1: in the exact light that he wants to be painted in.
- 24:27Speaker 1: I mean, that's what he was brought to Philadelphia to do.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Whatever they've tried hasn't succeeded. And so LeBron and Jalen Brown,
- 24:33Speaker 1: I guess, to a lesser extent, was brought in to
- 24:36Speaker 1: change the culture of that organization and help Joel Embiid
- 24:40Speaker 1: get to practice on time.
- 24:43Speaker 11: I wonder, Taylor, though, if everybody would have reacted the
- 24:46Speaker 11: way we have, where it's just like, no, no, he
- 24:48Speaker 11: should be doing that. He'd be, you know, he'd be
- 24:50Speaker 11: championed if he'd be doing that. He'd be lauded if
- 24:52Speaker 11: he does that. If he changes his mind again and says, no,
- 24:55Speaker 11: I was just kidding.
- 24:55Speaker 5: It was the truth. I did yell at him.
- 24:58Speaker 9: Izzy, I wonder if there's anything there with LeBron James
- 25:01Speaker 9: and not wanting to be portrayed in this light, because
- 25:04Speaker 9: it does feel like there's been a history of people
- 25:08Speaker 9: just treating LeBron James teammates weird and. Again, pushing LeBron
- 25:13Speaker 9: and pushing the LeBron narrative, like the whole Kyrie Irving
- 25:16Speaker 9: thing where it was like, do you consider LeBron James
- 25:19Speaker 9: a father figure? And Kyrie was like, no, I have
- 25:22Speaker 9: a father.
- 25:22Speaker 11: Yeah, I do think at this stage, like, I don't
- 25:24Speaker 11: really think he cares about the whole replaying the Kyrie thing.
- 25:28Speaker 10: I don't think that haunts.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Him, but.
- 25:30Speaker 11: And maybe this is just because I'm getting old. I
- 25:33Speaker 11: just think he doesn't want to be looked at as unk.
- 25:35Speaker 11: I don't think he wants to be looked at as
- 25:37Speaker 11: the old man who's just telling everybody what to do
- 25:39Speaker 11: now because he's so old and yada yada instead of
- 25:41Speaker 11: just being a player and coming in as a sort
- 25:44Speaker 11: of player coach type.
- 25:45Speaker 5: It doesn't help that his son plays in the league.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I mean, just in terms of how we view LeBron
- 25:49Speaker 1: James and his age.
- 25:50Speaker 11: Crazy graphic yesterday. Steph Curry versus Bronny James for a
- 25:56Speaker 11: preseason game. Like, good Lord, go back 20 years and
- 25:58Speaker 11: imagine that.
- 25:59Speaker 1: But shouldn't we be applauding LeBron James? I mean, most fans,
- 26:04Speaker 1: fans love this stuff, Izzy. They don't care that LeBron
- 26:07Speaker 1: has been there for a minute. Whatever Embiid's been doing,
- 26:10Speaker 1: we all know his talent. He gets hurt a lot,
- 26:12Speaker 1: which is unfortunate. But LeBron was brought there to bring
- 26:16Speaker 1: some structure to that team because he's the guy who
- 26:18Speaker 1: has done it, and he's done it four or five times,
- 26:21Speaker 1: you know?
- 26:21Speaker 11: I can think of maybe one other player, and that's
- 26:24Speaker 11: John Morant, who you would, like, sort of ask around
- 26:28Speaker 11: and say, hey— If said leader from a team, a
- 26:31Speaker 11: new player from a team, went off on a player
- 26:35Speaker 11: because he was late, who would you be okay with
- 26:38Speaker 11: that player being? And it would be Joel Embiid and
- 26:41Speaker 11: John Morant. Because, again, everything we've read, everything we've heard
- 26:45Speaker 11: seems to be that this is something that is an
- 26:47Speaker 11: issue with him, professionalism. And if you just nip it
- 26:50Speaker 11: in the bud right off the top and just get
- 26:53Speaker 11: that story out of the way, you'll never have to
- 26:56Speaker 11: address it again.
- 26:57Speaker 10: Instead, now.
- 26:59Speaker 11: It seems like LeBron can never really– again, assuming this
- 27:03Speaker 11: is true and he is lying to protect himself because
- 27:07Speaker 11: I can't imagine not only Breen– telling a story that
- 27:11Speaker 11: wasn't true, believing a story that wasn't true, but being
- 27:14Speaker 11: fed a story that wasn't true. Who's that cruel to
- 27:19Speaker 11: feed Mike Breen some fake news?
- 27:21Speaker 5: I can't imagine who would do that. And if Breen
- 27:23Speaker 5: wasn't certain, he would get a second source.
- 27:25Speaker 6: Right.
- 27:27Speaker 5: Because that's what Mike Breen does. He's responsible.
- 27:29Speaker 11: But I also think even if he didn't get another one,
- 27:31Speaker 11: it's such, to me, a nothing story, given the history
- 27:35Speaker 11: of these two guys, that it was just like, Okay, yeah, finally,
- 27:39Speaker 11: somebody's getting on Joel Embiid's you-know-what instead of a coach
- 27:42Speaker 11: who probably doesn't feel like he has that sort of
- 27:44Speaker 11: pull with Embiid. And instead, it's just he's making it
- 27:48Speaker 11: worse by saying, that's a lie, Mike Breen, who everybody respects.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Yes, one of the players who has earned the right
- 27:53Speaker 1: to walk into a new organization and say, hey, I
- 27:56Speaker 1: chose you. I came, Joel Embiid, I chose to play
- 28:00Speaker 1: with you. I could have done anything with the final
- 28:02Speaker 1: two years of my career. I chose to come to Philadelphia.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Don't you dare be late on my watch. I'm okay
- 28:08Speaker 1: with that, especially if, you know, he's got a time
- 28:11Speaker 1: where his chopper has to take off and get him
- 28:12Speaker 1: back to New York City.
- 28:15Speaker 5: I do love the idea. Chopper. You know what?
- 28:18Speaker 10: Let's just swing by Embiid's house.
- 28:21Speaker 5: He'll hear us coming.
- 28:22Speaker 10: He knows he's got to be ready.
- 28:23Speaker 11: We'll swoop down. Maybe we'll just send a rope down
- 28:26Speaker 11: because there's no place to land. And then you just
- 28:28Speaker 11: see Embiid just climbing.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Up that rope ladder.
- 28:30Speaker 9: Yes.
- 28:30Speaker 1: You have to love Philly fans who they have enough
- 28:32Speaker 1: to be upset about. I mean, they're just upset in
- 28:34Speaker 1: general about everything. But the idea that they are now
- 28:37Speaker 1: realizing LeBron doesn't like their city.
- 28:40Speaker 5: You don't want to live there.
- 28:41Speaker 1: He's taking a chopper from New York City to Philadelphia
- 28:45Speaker 1: back and forth every day.
- 28:47Speaker 5: The only time he'll spend in Philly is when they
- 28:49Speaker 5: have home games.
- 28:50Speaker 11: Well, it is a good sign anyway that Joel Embiid
- 28:52Speaker 11: looks like he's lost weight. He looks like he's fit
- 28:55Speaker 11: because the other guy who was recruiting or another guy
- 28:58Speaker 11: who was recruiting LeBron James really hard.
- 29:00Speaker 10: This offseason was Draymond Green. Have you seen him lately?
- 29:04Speaker 12: No.
- 29:04Speaker 5: What's going on?
- 29:05Speaker 11: He was wearing a black T-shirt yesterday. I think it
- 29:07Speaker 11: was yesterday, maybe the day before that, getting interviewed. And
- 29:11Speaker 11: not in NBA shape.
- 29:14Speaker 5: You know what?
- 29:14Speaker 10: I can take the NBA.
- 29:15Speaker 6: Out of that.
- 29:16Speaker 5: Not in shape at all. Really?
- 29:18Speaker 10: Not in shape at all.
- 29:20Speaker 11: He's the type of guy that makes you know he's
- 29:23Speaker 11: going to be, in terms of conditioning, he'll be able
- 29:27Speaker 11: to run up and down.
- 29:28Speaker 10: He'll be okay.
- 29:30Speaker 11: But you kind of want to give off like you're
- 29:32Speaker 11: trying a little harder and you don't want to give
- 29:34Speaker 11: off like they're calling this a gap year. You don't
- 29:37Speaker 11: want to be that obvious that you don't really care.
- 29:39Speaker 11: And it makes me wonder if Steph Curry was just like,
- 29:41Speaker 11: dang it, I should have left.
- 29:43Speaker 6: Yes.
- 29:45Speaker 5: That's the answer.
- 29:46Speaker 9: On the topic of some NBA body transformations this offseason.
- 29:50Speaker 5: Chet Holmgren?
- 29:51Speaker 6: Yes. Yes.
- 29:52Speaker 9: I'm so glad you knew exactly where I was going.
- 29:54Speaker 5: I mean, you guys are locked into the association already.
- 29:57Speaker 9: Yeah, because when you hear the word body transformation, you
- 30:00Speaker 9: just think Chet Holmgren this offseason. Stu, I forget if
- 30:03Speaker 9: it was like a report. quarter from the thunder or
- 30:05Speaker 9: maybe the thunder put it out themselves right chet holmgren
- 30:10Speaker 9: has added two pounds this offseason 213 at.
- 30:13Speaker 5: 215 wow feels.
- 30:15Speaker 9: Like we could have saved a graphic there yeah we.
- 30:17Speaker 11: Should have let stu gots guess how much weight he's gained.
- 30:20Speaker 5: Put it on the poll taylor.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Is putting out a graphic that Chet Holmgren has gained
- 30:32Speaker 1: two pounds.
- 30:33Speaker 5: A waste of a graphic. I'm with you on that.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gatz and
- 30:38Speaker 2: Company live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific
- 30:43Speaker 2: on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 30:48Speaker 9: The New York Yankees.
- 30:48Speaker 5: Okay, go ahead. I mean, he is unhinged today.
- 30:51Speaker 9: And then, Mikey, if it couldn't go from bad to
- 30:56Speaker 9: worse after the Yankees get humiliated getting swept by the
- 31:00Speaker 9: Tampa Bay Rays.
- 31:01Speaker 5: Good team.
- 31:02Speaker 9: I wake up to this from Jimmy Trena. Buster Olney
- 31:05Speaker 9: just said on ESPN that he expects the Yankees to
- 31:08Speaker 9: re-sign Brian Cashman this offseason and that Cashman will then
- 31:12Speaker 9: bring back Aaron Boone. Enjoy your day, Yankee fans. Stu,
- 31:16Speaker 9: this is Groundhog Day. I feel like we are living
- 31:20Speaker 9: the same day over and over. And Mikey, it was
- 31:23Speaker 9: the Blue Jays last year. It was the Rays this year.
- 31:26Speaker 9: Set your clocks and next year it's probably going to
- 31:28Speaker 9: be the Baltimore Orioles turn to embarrass us on a
- 31:31Speaker 9: national stage.
- 31:32Speaker 5: Right. Jimmy T. That's a great report.
- 31:35Speaker 1: But I feel like anyone could have reported that with
- 31:37Speaker 1: 100 percent certainty without any knowledge, without any inside information,
- 31:41Speaker 1: without a source. They could have said that Brian Cashman
- 31:44Speaker 1: will return next.
- 31:45Speaker 5: Season as the Yankees GM. Do you guys agree with that?
- 31:48Speaker 6: Yes. Yeah.
- 31:49Speaker 13: And it makes it even worse that we might be
- 31:51Speaker 13: headed towards some sort of work stoppage, whether it be
- 31:54Speaker 13: a lockout, whether it's during into the season or not,
- 31:57Speaker 13: because no team is going to want to change things
- 32:00Speaker 13: up too much. with the uncertainty of how it is
- 32:03Speaker 13: which just means the yankees are not only going to
- 32:05Speaker 13: resign cashman they're not only going to bring back boone
- 32:07Speaker 13: they're probably going to resign either jazz or trent grisham
- 32:11Speaker 13: i'm sure they'll bring back bednar even though i think
- 32:13Speaker 13: they should it's this we're just we're just setting ourselves
- 32:17Speaker 13: up for another year of.
- 32:18Speaker 9: Failure my least favorite thing in this whole narrative besides
- 32:22Speaker 9: the fact that my team stinks and my team is
- 32:24Speaker 9: the joke of baseball today right You failed. Is when
- 32:27Speaker 9: people say, if you fire Brian Cashman or if you
- 32:31Speaker 9: fire Aaron Boone, somebody's going to hire them.
- 32:34Speaker 5: Good. Please.
- 32:36Speaker 12: Please.
- 32:36Speaker 5: Red Sox. Yes. Hopefully Boston.
- 32:39Speaker 6: I'm begging you. Please.
- 32:42Speaker 5: Toronto.
- 32:43Speaker 6: Please.
- 32:44Speaker 5: Yes.
- 32:44Speaker 6: I'm begging you.
- 32:45Speaker 5: The problem is that.
- 32:46Speaker 13: Because I maintain Brian Cashman has done nothing with all
- 32:51Speaker 13: those resources that you couldn't have picked out anybody on
- 32:54Speaker 13: the street wearing a Yankee hat and they wouldn't have
- 32:57Speaker 13: done the same thing except except better.
- 33:00Speaker 5: Except Boston's not dumb enough to hire Brian Cashman. That's
- 33:02Speaker 5: the problem. Sorry, guys.
- 33:07Speaker 1: I can't even get a word in. I mean, you
- 33:08Speaker 1: guys are so unhinged.
- 33:11Speaker 6: And here's the other thing about.
- 33:15Speaker 8: It.
- 33:15Speaker 5: Don't stop now. I mean, listen, you made it to
- 33:21Speaker 5: the playoffs. You say they failed. It was an F.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I mean, I understand the Yankees win the World Series
- 33:26Speaker 1: every single year. It's not a reality. It's not going
- 33:28Speaker 1: to happen. You guys know that by now. Baseball is
- 33:30Speaker 1: such a random sport. I understand you hold your team
- 33:34Speaker 1: to a higher standard, but you guys are sitting here
- 33:36Speaker 1: saying you failed. That's not a failure, making it to
- 33:39Speaker 1: the divisional round of the book. No, a failure is
- 33:42Speaker 1: the New York Mets. That's a failure, guys.
- 33:45Speaker 9: Stu, you say baseball is random. Yet me and Mikey
- 33:48Speaker 9: told you exactly how the season would end in April.
- 33:50Speaker 5: Now, that's fair.
- 33:52Speaker 9: You say baseball is random. We have seen the Yankees
- 33:54Speaker 9: get eliminated the same way now for, what, four of
- 33:57Speaker 9: the past five years? Where in the biggest moments, they
- 34:01Speaker 9: look like a team that just forgets how to play baseball.
- 34:03Speaker 9: And all us Yankee fans are saying is like, hey,
- 34:06Speaker 9: let's address the issue. And the Yankees at the end.
- 34:08Speaker 9: spit in our face and look at us and say,
- 34:11Speaker 9: you guys don't know what you're talking about. You guys
- 34:13Speaker 9: are just fans. Just keep, just keep giving us your money.
- 34:16Speaker 9: You guys don't know any better. We're the ones in
- 34:19Speaker 9: charge of this. We won titles in the nineties. We
- 34:22Speaker 9: trust us. And it's like, shut up.
- 34:24Speaker 12: This is the longest playoff world series drought in New.
- 34:32Speaker 9: Like since the first one, since the first one.
- 34:35Speaker 5: Okay.
- 34:36Speaker 13: But like, since they won one, this is, this is
- 34:38Speaker 13: the longest world series drought in their history. That is
- 34:43Speaker 13: mind blowing. And you go back and you look at
- 34:45Speaker 13: some of those teams. I beg anybody.
- 34:48Speaker 12: Go look at the 2006 Yankees and tell me you've
- 34:52Speaker 12: ever seen a better lineup. Top to bottom Robinson Cano
- 34:57Speaker 12: hit ninth, right?
- 34:58Speaker 8: Hmm.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I mean, I could sit here all day and watch
- 35:01Speaker 1: the two of you just go back and forth.
- 35:03Speaker 5: One's angrier than the other.
- 35:04Speaker 9: Bobby Abreu.
- 35:05Speaker 5: Bobby Abreu.
- 35:08Speaker 9: Johnny Damon. What was Andy Phillips doing on this 2016?
- 35:17Speaker 5: Our thanks to Herm Edwards for joining us there. It
- 35:19Speaker 5: was nice to hear his voice, Mikey. That was nice.
- 35:20Speaker 5: I enjoyed that very much. I love that man.
- 35:22Speaker 2: I know.
- 35:23Speaker 6: I love that man. I wish he was better at coaching.
- 35:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:27Speaker 13: Right.
- 35:27Speaker 5: You want him to be.
- 35:29Speaker 1: We were so hopeful that he would be the Jets
- 35:31Speaker 1: head coach forever because we love Herm Edwards.
- 35:34Speaker 5: You're right. Yeah.
- 35:35Speaker 6: Yes.
- 35:36Speaker 5: Unfortunately, it didn't go that well.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Anyway, you interested in tonight's game before we get to
- 35:40Speaker 1: if the season ended today, because we haven't talked a lot.
- 35:43Speaker 1: NFL football today because baseball has dominated our show and
- 35:48Speaker 1: your guys hatred for the New York Yankees specifically Brian
- 35:51Speaker 1: Cashman has dominated the show are you into Bucks Cowboys
- 35:55Speaker 1: tonight not.
- 35:57Speaker 13: Even a little bit I mean I I'm I'm honestly
- 36:00Speaker 13: considering going to sleep early because I've spent so many
- 36:03Speaker 13: late nights watching baseball and I I just need to
- 36:06Speaker 13: catch up yes I'm actually considering missing this game just
- 36:09Speaker 13: because if you told me Baker was playing maybe but
- 36:13Speaker 13: The only thing that's going to make this game relatively competitive.
- 36:16Speaker 6: Is the fact that it's Thursday and anything can happen.
- 36:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:19Speaker 1: What'd you make of, uh, Bomani Jones earlier saying that,
- 36:22Speaker 1: you know, if God forbid the bucks lose, Todd Bowles
- 36:24Speaker 1: could be fired.
- 36:26Speaker 6: I don't believe it.
- 36:27Speaker 13: I think it's really hard to fire a co and I,
- 36:30Speaker 13: I understand that you think he's untouchable, but I think
- 36:32Speaker 13: it's really hard to fire a coach when you're starting
- 36:34Speaker 13: an undrafted rookie.
- 36:36Speaker 6: Um, Like, that can't be the game you fire him.
- 36:40Speaker 5: Well, they weren't good with Baker, I mean, to be fair.
- 36:43Speaker 13: They weren't good, but you got to give Baker a shot,
- 36:46Speaker 13: and it doesn't help you to fire him now.
- 36:48Speaker 6: It doesn't help you.
- 36:49Speaker 5: Thanks to all the guests who joined us today. Fun show,
- 36:52Speaker 5: busy show.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Let's get to if the season ended today to finish
- 36:56Speaker 1: off the show.
- 36:57Speaker 6: Ooh, a little NFL music.
- 36:58Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 37:00Speaker 5: What week are we in?
- 37:00Speaker 8: All right.
- 37:01Speaker 5: What week?
- 37:02Speaker 6: This is week five kicks off tonight.
- 37:04Speaker 5: Yes, but we are approaching the time of the season
- 37:06Speaker 5: where you forget what week it is, right? Like, no doubt. Yes?
- 37:10Speaker 6: I never forget because I count them down.
- 37:12Speaker 2: I know.
- 37:12Speaker 5: Sorry.
- 37:14Speaker 13: If the season ended today in the AFC, surprise, surprise,
- 37:19Speaker 13: the Kansas City Chiefs have the one seed.
- 37:20Speaker 6: They have the bye.
- 37:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:22Speaker 6: No surprise.
- 37:23Speaker 5: Well, surprise us all.
- 37:23Speaker 6: Your first get matchup.
- 37:25Speaker 5: No surprise.
- 37:26Speaker 13: The New England Patriots are on the road. At the
- 37:30Speaker 13: Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 37:32Speaker 5: Wow.
- 37:33Speaker 6: We just saw this game. We just saw this game,
- 37:36Speaker 6: and I think it'd be a repeat. Give me Jacksonville.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Yeah, but the Patriots, I mean, Drake, you weren't encouraged
- 37:42Speaker 1: at all by Drake May against Buffalo and that Patriot
- 37:44Speaker 1: team against Buffalo last week?
- 37:47Speaker 13: No, I think Buffalo has a suspect defense, and I
- 37:50Speaker 13: think they are going to just ask Josh Allen.
- 37:51Speaker 5: To do it all.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Jacksonville has a very good defense. Trevor Lawrence, man, this
- 37:56Speaker 1: is painful to say, but it might be good. By
- 38:01Speaker 1: the way, the return of Tony Buscelli in two weeks, Mikey.
- 38:03Speaker 1: I thought you'd be excited about that.
- 38:05Speaker 6: I'm excited. I don't even need to ask him about Jags.
- 38:07Speaker 5: I would take the Jags in that game, too. Go ahead.
- 38:11Speaker 6: The Raiders head to Buffalo.
- 38:13Speaker 5: Wow, they made the playoffs. Wow, the Raiders are for real.
- 38:17Speaker 5: They're not even the last seed. Where are the Raiders going?
- 38:23Speaker 6: They are going to Buffalo.
- 38:25Speaker 5: Wow.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins, we think. Josh Allen, Buffalo. I think the
- 38:33Speaker 1: Raiders are just happy to make it to the playoffs.
- 38:35Speaker 1: The Bills, of course, are not happy just making it
- 38:37Speaker 1: to the playoffs. They have loftier aspirations. I think Buffalo
- 38:40Speaker 1: wins that game fairly easily.
- 38:43Speaker 5: I agree.
- 38:44Speaker 13: But barring injury, Kirk Cousins will be the quarterback for
- 38:48Speaker 13: that team at that point.
- 38:49Speaker 6: He's earned it.
- 38:50Speaker 5: I would agree.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Well, yes, if he has taken his team to the playoffs,
- 38:52Speaker 1: it would be an odd time to bench him. And
- 38:55Speaker 1: if they are indeed headed towards the playoffs, he's never
- 38:57Speaker 1: being benched.
- 38:58Speaker 5: So Mendoza will wait another year.
- 39:01Speaker 6: And how about this?
- 39:02Speaker 13: Last game in the AFC and AFC North matchup. between
- 39:05Speaker 13: the baltimore ravens traveling to the cleveland browns.
- 39:09Speaker 14: Oh wow that is rich i mean what the storylines
- 39:16Speaker 14: are amazing in that game i actually want that game
- 39:19Speaker 14: to happen i do i think the ravens blow them
- 39:21Speaker 14: up all.
- 39:23Speaker 13: Right yeah in the nfc the san francisco 49ers will
- 39:26Speaker 13: have the one seed and the Los Angeles Rams will
- 39:30Speaker 13: head on the road to take on the quarterback whisperer himself,
- 39:33Speaker 13: the Minnesota Vikings.
- 39:34Speaker 14: Wow.
- 39:36Speaker 5: He's not a quarterback whisperer. Sure is.
- 39:38Speaker 4: 4-0, two seed.
- 39:42Speaker 1: The only thing he should be whispering in anyone's ear
- 39:44Speaker 1: is a big thank you to Brian Flores.
- 39:46Speaker 5: If he did that, Flores would end it.
- 39:48Speaker 1: That too yes that too i would take stafford and
- 39:51Speaker 1: the rams to steamroll uh the quarterback whisper.
- 39:55Speaker 13: As would i yeah uh your next matchup the seattle
- 39:58Speaker 13: seahawks the defending champs head on the road to take
- 40:01Speaker 13: on the jamis winston led nfc east new york giant champions.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Wow wow wow wow harbaugh makes the playoffs does it
- 40:10Speaker 1: with a backup quarterback Baltimore is traveling to Cleveland.
- 40:17Speaker 5: I'm rooting for Jameis. I'll take Jameis in that game.
- 40:21Speaker 1: I will just simply because I'm rooting for Jameis and
- 40:23Speaker 1: I want Jameis to win a Super Bowl.
- 40:27Speaker 13: And you're guaranteed Sunday night matchup for playoff weekend.
- 40:30Speaker 6: Yes.
- 40:31Speaker 13: The Chicago Bears on the road at the Carolina Panthers.
- 40:35Speaker 6: Fireworks, baby. Week one matchup.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Well, we've seen that game. Yes, I think they put
- 40:39Speaker 1: up a 50 spot. And Carolina put up 30 something.
- 40:46Speaker 1: That would be an exciting game. Caleb Williams should be back.
- 40:49Speaker 1: I would take the Bears because he's the greatest quarterback
- 40:51Speaker 1: I've ever seen.
- 40:53Speaker 13: Bryce young too and by the way your number one
- 40:55Speaker 13: pick if the season ended today yes houston texans are
- 40:58Speaker 13: on
- 40:58Speaker 1: The clock wow with a championship defense that suddenly got
- 41:02Speaker 1: a lot worse
