- 0:00Hello friends! Welcome back to Wonderfully Made,
- 0:04Bible Stories for Children. I'm so glad you're
- 0:08here. Last time, we learned about Samuel, how
- 0:13he grew up listening to God's voice, even when
- 0:17he was just a boy. He became a great prophet
- 0:21and leader for Israel. Today, we'll hear how
- 0:25the people asked for a king, and how God chose
- 0:29a man named Saul to be Israel's very first king.
- 0:33Let's get ready for the story. As Samuel grew
- 0:50older, the people of Israel came to him with
- 0:53a request. They wanted a king to lead them. just
- 0:57like the other nations around them. This made
- 1:02Samuel sad. He prayed to God, and God helped
- 1:06Samuel understand that the people were not just
- 1:09rejecting Samuel's leadership. They were rejecting
- 1:13God as their king. But God told Samuel to give
- 1:17the people what they asked for and promised that
- 1:20he would show Samuel the man who was to be king.
- 1:24Not long after this, a young man named Saul was
- 1:28out searching for his father's donkeys. The animals
- 1:37had wandered off, and Saul and his servant had
- 1:41been looking for days. Finally, Saul's servant
- 1:45suggested they should go and ask the man of God,
- 1:48Samuel, for help. When Saul arrived to meet Samuel,
- 1:54God spoke to Samuel's heart and let him know
- 1:57that this was the man who would become Israel's
- 2:00king. The next morning, Samuel took Saul aside.
- 2:05He poured oil on Saul's head and explained that
- 2:09God had chosen him to lead his people. This act
- 2:13was called anointing. It was a sign that God's
- 2:17spirit would be with Saul to help him as king.
- 2:20At first, Saul felt unsure of himself. He didn't
- 2:25think he was important enough to lead such a
- 2:28big nation. But God gave him courage, and when
- 2:33Samuel presented Saul to the people, they celebrated
- 2:36and shouted their approval of their new king.
- 2:47Wow! What a big moment for Israel! God's people
- 2:53had a king, just like they asked for. But we
- 2:57can also see that God was still in charge. He
- 3:01chose Saul, and he gave Samuel the wisdom to
- 3:05guide him. Let's think for a moment. Have you
- 3:11ever felt too small or unimportant for a big
- 3:14job? That's how Saul felt. But God gave him the
- 3:22strength to do what seemed impossible. Remember,
- 3:26when God calls us to something, he also gives
- 3:29us what we need to do it. Just like God heard
- 3:33Samuel's prayers, he hears you when you call
- 3:36to him too. Thank you for joining me today to
- 3:42hear how Saul became Israel's first king. Next
- 3:46time on Wonderfully Made. We'll find out what
- 3:49happens when King Saul makes a mistake and forgets
- 3:53to obey God. What will Samuel say? And what will
- 3:57God do? Until then, remember, you are wonderfully
- 4:02made. Bye for now.
