- 0:10McCoy, and I bring almost 30 years of entrepreneurial experience
- 0:14and a passion for discovering growth through the power of seemingly small
- 0:18change. And the reason we're doing this, you know, podcast is so
- 0:21that you have each week somebody that you can, you know, grow
- 0:25from and get information from that is going to help you build your
- 0:29business. And they're going to share how a smaller, unexpected or
- 0:32insignificant decision sparked remarkable transformation
- 0:36and growth in their personal or professional life and why they are
- 0:40so good at what they do. And today, giving her
- 0:44time and her insight to us is ChewHoong . And I am
- 0:47so happy that you're here. I cannot wait to hear what you
- 0:51have to say, especially when you said, for people who struggle
- 0:55with not good enough and procrastination.
- 0:59So tell us your story. Thank you. First,
- 1:03Yvonne, thank you so much for having a platform, a place for people
- 1:06together, because. So one of the things I found in procrastination
- 1:10is in the stuck cycle. And there could be
- 1:13procrastination, overthinking, perfectionism,
- 1:17you know, and also getting ready to get ready to get ready. Right.
- 1:22And then. Well, and underlying that is a root
- 1:25cause that caused that. And it's important to go there
- 1:29because you could get a procrastination. However,
- 1:33you're going to go back into procrastinating again because on a
- 1:36root level, you know, there is someone tell me
- 1:40yet, you know, and Frank is rotten in there. Well, I say, well, it's not
- 1:43really rotten. It's just that, you know, they're covered by things that
- 1:47need to be placed clean and taken care of. Right. Renourished, I
- 1:51call that. So for me, I found that it was about not good
- 1:55enough. And I. I'd even want to admit that because
- 1:59in my culture, right, even say I have a mental emotional
- 2:02challenge, it becomes a big loser. And I've
- 2:06experienced that. You know, I think, as I remember is when I
- 2:09was in kindergarten, 5 years old,
- 2:13and I'm this, you know, I caused myself a wild child who preferred to be
- 2:16outdoors climbing trees, you know, and having fun and to be in a
- 2:20classro classroom. And in our culture, the classroom is like, be still, you
- 2:24know, work hard, you know, don't make prop, you know,
- 2:27just. Just follow the rules. And I'm like, you know, busily distracting
- 2:31my fellow student, you know, friends. And I'll be
- 2:35throwing, you know, writing people on piece of Paper and throwing to them, you know,
- 2:38that kind of thing. So you might know that. And I will be called up
- 2:41numerous time. And here I am, five foot, you know, three feet
- 2:45tall, and it's like five, nine, giant, saying, okay, you know why you're
- 2:49up here, right? And they say, put your hand out, right? Hand
- 2:52out. Say, you know, you know, you know that you're, you're not,
- 2:56you know, your grades are lousy, you know, no, pay attention. Smack.
- 3:00Here comes a ruler, right? Next thing you know, your friend, your, Your car, your.
- 3:04The other students are working hard, you're distracting them. That's. They're not fair to them,
- 3:09right? And I say, and then, you know, after a
- 3:12few more times of that, it's like. And my grades show that I wasn't
- 3:16very good. Even my parents, parents. I have a sibling. I'm. I have a
- 3:20household of nine of us. And some of them are very smart. And my parents
- 3:23say, why can't you be like that, study like that, you know, blah, blah, blah.
- 3:27And to the point, even high school, I, I failed and I couldn't
- 3:30go to college. And so my parents were,
- 3:34you know, I had to thank them. They put me in a special school, paid
- 3:37for the extra tuition. However, I had the. I had to wear the uniform at
- 3:41that school. And every time I go out and, and people ask me where
- 3:45I am, I mention name at school. And it's almost like I could feel like
- 3:48they want to take a backstage step back from me because oops, don't want to
- 3:51hang out with the loser. The ones that's not smart. And that sort of
- 3:54carried through and to the point where, where I would
- 3:58be in, I worked in, in billion dollar companies and
- 4:02I would solve problems of people who have a lot of alphabets of the name.
- 4:06However, do I get knowledge? No. I'm among what I call the unsung
- 4:10heroes, right? Who take care of people's problems. Not in
- 4:13ladders. Other people shine. And, and that was like
- 4:17so big. And then here I am being an entrepreneur. And what is the first
- 4:20thing you got to do? Entrepreneur? You gotta put a spotlight on you. I'm like,
- 4:24oh, I don't think so. And, and that put me
- 4:27further in procrastination and in decades. So when I think of.
- 4:31If you're in business, I want you to pay attention to this. How much do
- 4:35you charge per hour? If you haven't figured that, you gotta put a
- 4:38dollar. So for me, you know, at that time, if I say $200.
- 4:42So every few minutes I procrastinate.
- 4:46What does it translate to? Kaching. Kaching off the table. And I
- 4:49say, I jokingly say, but it's a sadness, a regret, deep regrets that, you know,
- 4:53I could be a millionaire 10 times over, making more impact,
- 4:57you know, have an indulgent lifestyle because, hey, you know,
- 5:01I have good taste. Yeah. And also making the
- 5:05legacy you want to leave. So this is where I know I
- 5:08invite you to that if you're trying to do your own when you're stuck
- 5:12cycle. And you pattern of it, you can't do yourself
- 5:16because you have your brilliant mind, this part of you
- 5:19that's very protective. And one of his prime directives,
- 5:23to make sure you survive, you stay safe,
- 5:27and doesn't necessarily mean to keep you safe in a healthy way.
- 5:31And for me, I built a habit, right? Invisible, you
- 5:34know, solve all of the people's problem, you
- 5:38know, have many reasons to be stuck. I can't do this, I can't do that,
- 5:41whatever, right? And so. So
- 5:46the way for you to survive the brilliant, blind, protective mind was keep
- 5:49all your insecurities in a box. And it could be a Pandora box, and
- 5:53if you open it, wow, what will come out, right? And that's
- 5:57why you got to have someone to support you, to help you sort of
- 6:01in a loving, safe environment. And, you know, Yvonne is
- 6:05here to help you. I am here and many wonderful people.
- 6:08And so I. I just, I'm listening to what you're saying
- 6:12and. And inside I'm going, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. And it's
- 6:16part of. It's kind of part of what I talk about too. And one of
- 6:19my favorite saying is from Buckminster Fuller, who
- 6:22says we are all born geniuses. And then it's educated out of us,
- 6:26right? And, and so many of us have had that experience where
- 6:30we've been told to sit still and be quiet to. To not do
- 6:34the thing that, that we're really good at, you know, if you aren't, you
- 6:38know, if you're not following in footstep with everybody else,
- 6:42there's something wrong with you, you know, and typically it's
- 6:45just the opposite. I mean, I tell people when
- 6:49they're looking at their unique power, it's the thing that your family
- 6:53has always gotten on you about they didn't like
- 6:56because you weren't like them, you know, and my thing was
- 7:00that I always, you know, could fix things really fast, come up with
- 7:03solutions really fast. And it sounds like you could do that too,
- 7:07you know, and so, you know, people did not.
- 7:11People don't support you in being Different. And
- 7:15that's where, where I think people like you and I are so
- 7:19important because we value that. And your clients, the
- 7:22right clients for you value it too, because they
- 7:26felt like an outsider their entire life about something
- 7:30that, you know, is a positive thing for them
- 7:34that'll make them stand out and be found. And so, you know, it's
- 7:38like, you know, I, I jokingly say it's kind of like,
- 7:41you know, when you tell a story about your family and you have a
- 7:45friend, everybody, you tell the story and everybody in the family
- 7:49laughs. You go, Remember Uncle Joe's 50th birthday party? And everybody
- 7:53laughs, right? And your friend has no idea what you're talking about. Well,
- 7:56when you're talking to the client and you relate that story,
- 8:00that is common, right? They get it. It's
- 8:04like, oh, my God, I get this. Right? So,
- 8:08you know, I find it interesting that, that you're talking about, you
- 8:12know, attracting clients with zero stress. So tell, tell
- 8:15me what are like, some of the things that you
- 8:19find that people struggle with that you can help them with.
- 8:23Yeah, yeah. I especially have a US
- 8:28want to support people in the, you know, 45 plus and over
- 8:32because here they are. Want to start business, right?
- 8:35And, but however, if you transition, especially corporate into
- 8:39a business, there's so many hats you wear, right? You know,
- 8:43not, you know, the cfo, the cmo, the c.
- 8:46Marketing, sales and all that. And hopefully your skills and talents
- 8:50support, but many of us don't. I'm very fortunate that, you know,
- 8:53my, I, my, my, my skills and
- 8:57talent cross all over that in all the work I do and I didn't
- 9:01appreciate until became an entrepreneur, said, oh my gosh, you know, I'm, I'm, I'm okay
- 9:05marketing, I'm good at sales. I can do customer service and all this stuff. And
- 9:09even for me, it was a lot of, A lot of stressfulness because
- 9:13first thing you know, you got to get in front of people. You got to
- 9:17find your ideal clients, right? You got to figure out what offers and all
- 9:20that and, and, and so many things. And that already put
- 9:24me in stress. And now I have to go talk to people. And then I'm
- 9:27watching my bank account, right? Reality hits. Oh, my God, I'm spending
- 9:30thousands and thousand dollars on business practice and all that. And the return is
- 9:34tiny, tiny, tiny. And that's when I realized that, you know,
- 9:38and one of my big core genius is my brilliance is taking
- 9:42big chunks of information and really chunk them down little pieces.
- 9:45And especially whether you're newbie, whether you're, you're five figure
- 9:49or six figure, the different things you want to pay attention to.
- 9:53And I'm telling my clients love it because I keep them from what you call
- 9:56the sos the shiny object syndrome. Right.
- 10:00There's so many tactics now. AIs come to be, oh my God, use
- 10:04this AI tool, use that one. My mind is like my, my head
- 10:08is hurting. And then what I'm able to say, okay, when you're starting, pay
- 10:12attention to this AI tools. When you've learned it, okay, add this piece
- 10:15is on when you're scaling, have more money. Okay, we do that. All right, so
- 10:19that's what my, my brilliance is, is you're helping people 45
- 10:23plus, you know, especially not good in techy world, all this stuff, how to
- 10:27handle that. Right? There's a tech technology element beside, beside
- 10:30talking to people and all that. So that's where my genius is, how to sort
- 10:33of, you know, small chunks, right? You talk of what are small
- 10:37things to do to help along. And, and all for me, the small
- 10:41piece is even about. All right, what's the, what do you call the, the,
- 10:45the most. What do you call the micro step? 1, 1 micro step
- 10:49to do. And if you do that, then we go on and build and build
- 10:53on this and then you want to celebrate ahead of your victories, meaning victories.
- 10:57So you have, so you have said a couple of things that I just want
- 11:00to make sure that people are understanding.
- 11:04So I'm going to, I guess work backwards and hope I remember the first thing.
- 11:08So one of the things you're talking about, the micro steps, and I talk about
- 11:12that in terms of inertia, you know, it
- 11:16takes, it may seem like it takes a big effort to get the first couple
- 11:19of things done because you have to overcome inertia. But once you're
- 11:23going, you know, it, it will continue. It will build.
- 11:27The momentum will continue to go. And so you don't want to stop
- 11:30what's working to look at something shiny over here if what you're
- 11:34doing is working. And I think the other thing that you said that's
- 11:38so important is, you know, because this is what I do with people
- 11:42too, is, is help them to streamline. They've got lots of stuff,
- 11:46you know, and for me, when I lost my business, I said instead of having
- 11:48a business, I had a junk draw of all the courses and downloads and,
- 11:53you know, and it was kind of like, what is in this draw that
- 11:56is actually going to help me build a business that's going to be profitable that
- 12:00I Like doing consistently. Right. And I
- 12:04think one of the best questions that, to kind of keep
- 12:08that, you know, SOS out of things is what is
- 12:11the purpose of what I'm doing? So you talk about
- 12:15taking little pieces and taking steps. There's a process. I think
- 12:19what you're saying and, and what I call this is the five R's. You're doing
- 12:23the right thing for the right reason at the right time, the right way,
- 12:27and it's right for you. And so the, the question is, what
- 12:30is the purpose of what I'm doing? Is the purpose that I
- 12:34want to be more visible? You know, is that so that, you know, if
- 12:38I'm going to be more visible, I want to be more visible to the right
- 12:41people. Right. And the idea is, the purpose
- 12:45is always in a business is to help me to attract clients,
- 12:49make sales, and be able to help more people. I think.
- 12:53Yeah, I love what you. Five hours, you're right on about that. And you
- 12:57know, for me, when you do that, you then be in alignment. Right.
- 13:01Not your alignment. That feels so good to a soul level. And
- 13:05I, you know, I speak of this. Yeah. There's a business and practice and all
- 13:08that. However, you know, you got to take each of them and feel,
- 13:11okay, what feels right, what feels so aligned and uncomfortable doing.
- 13:15I have a client who, like, I say, you know, we figure out the everything,
- 13:18the business stuff. You know, I even say, okay, this is how you go and,
- 13:22and talk to people, lead generation and all that. And I said, one of the
- 13:25things that you got to go meet people. And I say, go
- 13:29online, virtual events, lots of them. I could basically say,
- 13:33shudder. I say, what's the matter? And say, I hate going virtual. Okay, what
- 13:36do you enjoy doing in state? And for her it's about, I prefer to get
- 13:40in my car, go to talk to people, live events, you know, whatever. I
- 13:44say, okay, great, do that then. And it's almost. I have to give her permission.
- 13:47And she, like, lightens up, you know, and, and then she
- 13:51goes, do it. And before long, people get to know her because, you know, it's
- 13:54about klt, right? No, like. And trust. I'm going to say
- 13:58no love and trust, because it's all about relationship. Right?
- 14:01Yeah. So. So the thing, I think that, that entrepreneurs
- 14:05don't. When people become entrepreneurs, the thing that they don't
- 14:08realize is that they get to make the choices.
- 14:13And that's scary because most of our life, somebody else has made the
- 14:17choices for us. You know, whether it's, you know, they actually go,
- 14:21you can't do this or, or whether it's like, well, girls don't do this,
- 14:25or, you know, married women don't do this, or whatever the case may
- 14:28be. As an entrepreneur, you get to make the choices, which
- 14:32can be scary. But if you know what the purpose is and you hold
- 14:36onto your vision, it doesn't matter if you
- 14:40make a mistake, you know, if you learn from it. Right.
- 14:43Because it'll just make you better at what you do. And I think the
- 14:47thing that I see is people who really love what they
- 14:50do, they're so excited about it all the time,
- 14:54even when it's not going well, you know, and that is an
- 14:58amazing gift. That is an amazing gift. Okay,
- 15:01so we're going to run out of time. We're having a good time. We're going
- 15:05to run out of time. So you have a gift for us, right?
- 15:09Yes, I do. And, you know, we didn't touch on this, but some of the
- 15:13key things, you know, being an entrepreneur, it's about. We always
- 15:16say, I don't have time. I need time, and say, okay, I need to get
- 15:20money. Because money is simple. The third thing I want to invite people to look
- 15:23into is about the energy part. You know, what is the energy when you're going
- 15:27to do something? We talk about this. If you're, when you're happy, when, when you're
- 15:31excited, when your purpose lights you up. Right? The energetic piece.
- 15:35So I have a gift, and this is about that. When
- 15:38you go into any conversations with people, you
- 15:42want to shine from inside out. So this gift is to help you
- 15:46to get into that space of like, being shiny before you go an
- 15:49event. And so I call it that. It's called the, the high vibration
- 15:54audio. It's only like two, three minutes. And you listen to it. And
- 15:58before every event you go to, if you do this little
- 16:01piece, you. You shine from inside out. And you know your
- 16:05goal, if it's a big goal and where your reality is, if there's a big
- 16:08gap, you know, there's a lot of activities you want to do. Now if you
- 16:11put this two minutes audio that you do before
- 16:15you go any. Every activity, you will collapse. That time
- 16:19you become more comfortable for you to be able to, to be able
- 16:23to, to shine and be the, I call them
- 16:26really, truly the client magnet. I can't, I cannot wait to hear
- 16:30this. So I'm gonna have you put that in the chat, if you will. I'm
- 16:33gonna do the commercial and make sure that we, we. We get out of here
- 16:37on time. So the first thing is I hope you will
- 16:40subscribe, share and engage on social media about the podcast.
- 16:44And the idea behind this is that, you know, I want to expose you to
- 16:48as many different kinds of people as I can and their insights and
- 16:51ideas to grow your business. And so I hope you'll continue to join
- 16:55me on the one small change and tell your friends, listen to the
- 16:59first episode to see what made me, you know, why I decided to start it,
- 17:02or listen to one of the quarterly clarity calls that I do
- 17:06at the beginning of each quarter. So let me ask you one more
- 17:10thing before we go. And if you were to leave people with some
- 17:14words of wisdom, what would it be? You know, your last words.
- 17:18Yeah. As Yvonne mentioned, what's your purpose in doing a business? What's your
- 17:21big why? Okay. And, you know, if it's, I
- 17:25hope it's about impact and legacy. And so I
- 17:29say, you know, if not now, when, if you're stuck,
- 17:33get support. Because, you know, one of the,
- 17:37I want to, you know, one of the top regrets that people
- 17:41have, what, before they pass on is that I wish I had the
- 17:45courage to live the life I truly am meant to live.
- 17:49So I want you to shine and live what it is and Yvonne and many
- 17:53of us to support you. So live with bold audaciousness.
- 17:57Yeah, I absolutely agree. So again, I'm going to ask
- 18:01you to put the link in the chat because I don't think I, I have
- 18:03it in your notes. But the, the thing that I want to say to everybody
- 18:07is, remember, the change is simple, but it's not always easy.
- 18:11And it requires courage, resilience, and a willingness to step
- 18:15out of your comfort zone. And if you are feeling comfortable,
- 18:19then you're not growing. And if you're not growing, you're stagnated.
- 18:23So I hope you will continue to join me on the one small change. And
- 18:27until the next time, please stay very curious.
- 18:31Thank you so much for giving of your time, your gift and
- 18:34your effort. Bye.
- 18:38Bye, bye. Thank you.
