- 1:13Tuesday that that'll be out. Actual play DND podcast.
- 1:17This is our third session, but we have two different parties
- 1:21kind of existing in the same world and we're still early on,
- 1:26so they're not directly influencing too much yet, but
- 1:28I'm sure they will and make my life hell.
- 1:31So yeah. I have no idea where any of it's
- 1:36going because obviously, while I may be 1 of Brody's, I like to
- 1:40say best friends. Yeah, of course.
- 1:42I just, I don't know where the story is going because I'm a
- 1:45player. I'm not just a guy on the
- 1:46outside. I'm on the inside.
- 1:48That's right. I'm trapped in there with Brody.
- 1:50Yeah, you're in my world now, motherfucker.
- 1:53You wanted to say bitch, but then.
- 1:55You had to. Go there.
- 1:56Like I saw you changed. You're like, I'm going to call
- 2:00my motherfucker. It's like, yeah, that sounds
- 2:03better. I think I don't.
- 2:05Know so get ready for some more role for Deception and then
- 2:08tomorrow, Saturday get ready for it came from Scream box.

- 2:28significant others to the movie theater on August 29th.
- 2:32We bought an entire row to go see this movie with all of our
- 2:36friends here in Michigan and it's going to be incredible.
- 2:39It's going to be a great time. So we we said fuck it, let's
- 2:41review the original source material that we all love and
- 2:45know very well. So check that out tomorrow.

- 3:06myself or just me or just Brody, just hit us up
- 3:09wasdbeyond@gmail.com. That is WASDBEY ond@gmail.com.
- 3:16And now on to the show Brody. Yes.
- 3:21Thank God you're back. I don't know.
- 3:25You say that every time I come back.
- 3:27I you know what, I just feel like, I feel like mom and like
- 3:31mom and dad both left and I was left with a credit card and I
- 3:35was told get a large pizza, but I got 2 and then I ordered HBO
- 3:40and then that's, that's dated. Yeah, yeah, you accidentally got
- 3:45the skin of Max didn't. You for although for the younger
- 3:49audience on Cinemax past midnight, there was softcore
- 3:55pornography. Yes.
- 3:58I remember OK. Do you?
- 4:00Do you have a vivid memory of any of them by chance?
- 4:03No. No, I have vivid memory of one.
- 4:05It was a caveman softcore porn. That's the choice.
- 4:10I was sitting in my parents room, my grandparents just left
- 4:14for the night after babysitting us and I went did a little look
- 4:20around the room, turned on skinny Max and it was like the
- 4:23weirdest caveman thing in the world.
- 4:25And they were just at one point you could see where the male
- 4:30performer is wearing a what I guess I'm I'll call a cock
- 4:34guard. Probably a cup.
- 4:38To that's that to some. Extent.
- 4:41Yeah, it makes more sense, doesn't it?
- 4:43But we'll stick with cock guard, that's fine.
- 4:45Cock guard's cool. Yeah, that's cool, man.
- 4:48That's if we were WASD and beyond branded cups.
- 4:53There you go. They call them cock guards,
- 4:54dude. That's it.
- 4:57That's the merch. And it was just like this weird
- 5:00thing where it's just dude and chick dressed up as Cavemen.
- 5:04One dude had the prosthetics on his eyebrow to.
- 5:08Yeah. And it was wild.
- 5:10And I may have gotten off to it. Did it?
- 5:13Awaken something in you. Definitely masturbated.
- 5:19I don't know why, you know, 12 years old, you don't.
- 5:22Well, I mean at at 12 it's like wind blows just right, like.
- 5:28Not anymore. For these kids though, they have
- 5:30it way too easy. Do you know how hard it was to
- 5:34steal a Playboy back in the day? You.
- 5:37Know what I mean? Like now it's a Google search
- 5:38away. That's I think it's far worse,
- 5:42just what they could type back. For me it was big boob big.
- 5:48Boob. That's it.
- 5:49I'm like, all right, we're in. Anyways, on to some video games.
- 5:53Brody, I would love to ask you what you've been playing.
- 5:55I would love to. Yeah, I let's see.
- 6:03I mainly the Battlefield beta. What?
- 6:07Were your thoughts on that? I liked the first weekend better
- 6:12than I did the second. Yep.
- 6:15And that's not to say the second weekend was bad.
- 6:18I think I was burned out because we they just kept putting us in
- 6:23the same maps over and over and over.
- 6:26Cairo. Yes, every single time.
- 6:28I played that map so many fucking times this weekend while
- 6:31trying to finish up some of those challenges, I had one
- 6:34challenge left and I think it was like I had to capture.
- 6:38I had to capture sectors in rush or breakthrough and obviously
- 6:44you don't get captures if you're on the defending side.
- 6:47So you're kind of rolling the dice every time you load into a
- 6:50game. And I finally said fuck it.
- 6:52I just don't want to do this. I I did enjoy my time with it
- 6:57right? Like I, I do think it is a solid
- 7:00battlefield game. I'm not I'm not crazy about some
- 7:06of the map design and even the siege of Cairo was cool for a
- 7:10little while. But when you play it like 30 out
- 7:15of 50 games, it gets a little old.
- 7:19So I, I am kind of interested to see some of the other maps and
- 7:22kind of get a little bit of variety in there, especially
- 7:26when like you're playing Conquest, it seemed like it
- 7:28always, always put you on Siege of Cairo.
- 7:31So. Every time I felt like yeah.
- 7:33Yeah, it was non-stop, but I, I, I did enjoy my time with it and
- 7:38I do I I am still looking forward to it.
- 7:40I do think the second weekend it wasn't as smooth.
- 7:45I had some choppiness. I had some like weird server
- 7:51side lag I had. That code error.
- 7:54Yeah, some net code stuff where like I'd shoot a guy 1st and not
- 7:58miss any shots and I'd still die even though we're he had like a
- 8:03fucking the the basically the same gun type of thing, like
- 8:06just weird things that were kind of happening.
- 8:08So I, I mean, it does make me a little nervous, but at the same
- 8:12time I think it's probably fine other than that I've been making
- 8:19APC to play older games so. Preservation.
- 8:24Yeah, that is consumed a lot of time.
- 8:29The the PC took 5 minutes to throw together.
- 8:33Getting the setup done also took 5 to 10 minutes.
- 8:39If even the the the media has been the the time consuming part
- 8:45of basically just going through a lot of lists and figuring out
- 8:49what I want and what I don't want and all of that.
- 8:52So that has consumed a shit load of time, but it's going to be
- 8:57really, really cool when it's done.
- 8:58And I'm really excited because my kid gets to play some of
- 9:01these games and and experience them for the first time now.
- 9:04He tried out like I think he said it was like Madden and he
- 9:08said mad No 6. And he's like that game felt
- 9:13like it there was like 3 pixels on the screen.
- 9:16I'm like, oh boy, you should try like an original Game Boy game
- 9:19or an NES game because it's a drastic difference.
- 9:23Never played a Tiger Electronics game my.
- 9:26Friend. Yeah, right.
- 9:27Check out Quarterback Club 98, my guy.
- 9:30Oh. My God.
- 9:31Car rides were so. Sweet though, it was the same.
- 9:33Fucking thing. Oh yeah.
- 9:36So that's that's consumed most of my time for probably what,
- 9:41the last three or four days now I basically haven't seen you on
- 9:44yet. Get off work.
- 9:45And I just keep plugging away at that.
- 9:48I have it all set up like a full computer desk and everything.
- 9:51I just the only thing I'm really I I need to set up a microphone
- 9:55over there and set up a headset. I I bought some cheap ass
- 9:59speakers just to have some sound coming out of it, but I don't
- 10:03have everything for being able to actually get in on discord
- 10:06and just chat while I do all this.
- 10:08Not to mention I have to like, yeah, yeah, that would be cool.
- 10:14CRTS go for like, stupid money now, though.
- 10:17Yeah, 'cause everybody wanted them, right?
- 10:19Like there was one specific model of like a Sony TV that
- 10:23everybody fucking wants. And it's like going for crazy,
- 10:26crazy. It's like the perfect TV to play
- 10:29like your 360 to like or Xbox to like, Xbox three 60s,
- 10:34PlayStation to the PlayStation 3's, things like that.
- 10:40Yeah, yeah, I know which one you're talking about.
- 10:42Initially this setup is I, I intended to run up through like
- 10:46Game Cube, PlayStation two, an original Xbox.
- 10:49I might be able to get a little bit more out past that, but
- 10:52emulation past that point is kind of hit or miss anyway.
- 10:55So, and I mean, I, I have a 360 still that I think works.
- 11:00I don't know, I haven't plugged it in a really long time.
- 11:02That poor thing. Yeah, that, that thing screaming
- 11:05for dear life. But yeah, no, it's, it's, it's a
- 11:09really cool project that I've wanted to do for years now and I
- 11:13just never pulled the trigger on it.
- 11:16But yeah, we're, we're here now. We're doing it.
- 11:18We're doing. Things Fuck yeah dude no dude I
- 11:22love projects like that man. I really wanted to make a
- 11:24stealth PC. So like basically APC that looks
- 11:27like it's from the 90s but with like dope ass gear in it.
- 11:34I've seen a lot of people do cool things like that.
- 11:36It's just for me it's OK, I've seen them do it and it's all
- 11:40water cooled because those old cases are very.
- 11:43No air flow. And it's like, I don't want to
- 11:48like I want to do a full radiator case eventually.
- 11:51Like that's my goal. Like eventually like, you know,
- 11:54I love this thing, but eventually I'm going to have to
- 11:55go to like the all water, all radiator.
- 11:59I just love the aesthetic. I love the look.
- 12:01But again, that's something where if you don't have your
- 12:03cable management upright, you ain't doing it.
- 12:06There's no point, no like 'cause that thing has to face out when
- 12:09you walk into the room. You, that's the first, that's
- 12:11that's the focal point. It it looks like that Simpsons
- 12:15meme where he's got the clothes pins in the back.
- 12:18You know, you just shove all the wires back behind the
- 12:21motherboard like it's fine. It's pretty on the answer.
- 12:25Neil's I can walk into Neil's office and he has a that he has
- 12:29a giant PC, water cooled, beautiful Gale management from
- 12:33the outside to the end. I'm like God damn bro son of
- 12:36bitch. That takes time and I I always
- 12:38go in with the intention of doing that and then I get like
- 12:41halfway through the cable management side of it and I get
- 12:44pissed off because cables will not sit where I want them to.
- 12:47Something unplug and. Something unplug.
- 12:49Yeah, just something stupid and I finally say Nah, fuck this.
- 12:53Enough's enough. But I've been I so I did the
- 12:57same thing as you did. I played a lot of Battlefield 6,
- 13:00Battlefield 6 Bat field, very good bat.
- 13:03Battlefield. Battlefield, it is water Helen.
- 13:08So I've been playing a lot. I played a lot of the beta and
- 13:12same shit, same thing, Brody said.
- 13:14I'm not going to reiterate too much, but will I?
- 13:15What I will say is found an exploit with the team.
- 13:21That was funny. I I went up a little little like
- 13:25broke down radio tower thing jumped where I wasn't supposed
- 13:29to jump, jumped again. And then Connor, I put her, I
- 13:32put a little respawn beacon down and everyone went, of course you
- 13:37would. I, I wasn't looking.
- 13:41I found it and everyone went and then Connor jumped the other
- 13:46side of the building and he goes, there's more.
- 13:49And I went, well do tell. And then we were on top of the
- 13:54map basically. And people, if they're, if you
- 13:58could hear VoIP, it would all be censored.
- 14:03There's no way I didn't get called a hard slur that day.
- 14:06Oh, for sure. But I was on top of a building
- 14:10Brody like looked up at the camera went I'm not saying it.
- 14:14They did Brody's Brody at one point.
- 14:18I'm like up on this like where I'm not supposed to be and I'm
- 14:22looking down going boom, dead, boom, dead.
- 14:27I felt so dirty, but I felt even more dirty when I grabbed my
- 14:30nude tube and I went this will be funny.
- 14:34Boom. And then just like 5.
- 14:36I'm like oh that was so bad. I was like, OK.
- 14:40The the one thing I didn't mention about this is when I was
- 14:43frustrated with the game, it was because I was playing by myself.
- 14:46Whenever we were all playing together, it was a fucking
- 14:49blast. And it was exactly what I
- 14:51remember from playing Battlefield back in the day with
- 14:53friends. Like, yeah, it even when it is
- 14:57shitty and things aren't going right, it was still a blast of
- 15:01play. Well even me finding that
- 15:04exploit was still funny. Like it wasn't like it wasn't
- 15:08like I hacked. I literally jumped somewhere I
- 15:11shouldn't have jumped and it was allowing me to get on top of a
- 15:15building, which may I add, you should be just be allowed to get
- 15:18on top of that. Yeah, I mean, so it was so
- 15:23common and Siege of Cairo anyway, because people would
- 15:26parachute in and land on top of the building.
- 15:28So there was always people on top of the building, but they
- 15:31aren't realistically supposed to be there.
- 15:33But it's fully textured and there's things to climb and I'm
- 15:37like, this should be in the game and like you should be allowed
- 15:42to do this. Like I mean in 2025 we we do
- 15:48typically look up at buildings because we've had verticality in
- 15:52FPS games for. I like vertical FPS shooters.
- 15:56Yeah. I don't need to just have it
- 15:58full, you know, like straightforward, like if I get
- 16:01shot from some dude in a window, I'm not going to get pissed.
- 16:03I'm going to be like, damn, like, well, it depends if I
- 16:06spawn, die, spawn die, spawn die.
- 16:09But no, I mean, dude, it's a blast.
- 16:12I can't I, I think, I hope this is a smooth launch.
- 16:18It needs to be this battlefield has to have that launch.
- 16:22Goes I don't even necessarily need it to be a smooth launch I
- 16:25just need it to be a smooth battlefield launch yes which
- 16:29really the bar is set incredibly low you.
- 16:33Did just did the middle? Huge stress tests like hopefully
- 16:38please. Oh my God, we'll see.
- 16:42We'll see. Well, let's break some more
- 16:44bread and let's talk about I. I don't think I I probably
- 16:48didn't. That's that means eating with
- 16:49like a neighbor doesn't. It yeah, typically.
- 16:54Let's do that then. You're like making peace.
- 16:56Yeah, it's fine. You're good.
- 16:57You're good. OK, let's let's get on to the
- 17:00main topic I kind of wanted to discuss, like gaming trends.
- 17:04Currently, Yeah, every, I would say decade, a good handful of
- 17:10trends take their claws and sink them into the industry.
- 17:14Right now, the trends that I'm noticing are low Poly horror
- 17:18games, mouthwashing, Fear the Spotlight, fuck Crow Country,
- 17:27and there's a ton of others that are coming out and are out.
- 17:30Some are very good, like the three I've just mentioned, and
- 17:32some are shit and it's unimaginative.
- 17:38You got extraction shooters, you got looter shooters that really
- 17:42like the big extraction looter battle Royale, what have you.
- 17:47I just wanted to discuss a bit of how these trends come and go.
- 17:51And do you feel like any of the current trends we are seeing
- 17:54nowadays are going to stick? Because for me, the low Poly
- 17:59thing works sometimes. Like, yeah, I'm I understand not
- 18:06every game has to look crazy good.
- 18:10Everything's going to have its own art style and that's fine.
- 18:14But if you if you gave me the option to play Resident Evil
- 18:17when it was first released to play what we are getting with
- 18:20Resident Evil now, I'm going to tell you I'm going to play the
- 18:22new Resident Evil because I don't want to go back to that.
- 18:26Like I tank controls and the dog.
- 18:30The pixels are so out of whack. Yes, back then and still for
- 18:34nostalgia. It's amazing to see and look at
- 18:36and like reminisce. But if I'm given the option, I
- 18:40don't need to play that. I'm going to play the new shit
- 18:44and there's nothing wrong with all the old stuff.
- 18:46I love you. I mean, the joke in the server
- 18:48is that I'm the guy who plays 30 year old games.
- 18:51Very true. I will sit and just play 30 year
- 18:55old games, 20, whatever. Like right now I have the
- 18:58biggest like itch to go back and play Kane and Lynch Dog days.
- 19:01Oh hell yeah. Fucking love that game.
- 19:03I have an itch to play the old Max Payne.
- 19:06Like there's so many games I have an itch to play that are
- 19:08just old because sometimes the new games don't.
- 19:12They just don't cut it for me. I feel like this year in
- 19:15particular too, I mean, there, there's been some huge hitters,
- 19:18right? But yeah, I do feel like Wu
- 19:22Chang Fallen Feather didn't really hit.
- 19:25Like there's been a handful of games that just really haven't
- 19:29done what we were really avowed was another one, right.
- 19:33So I I do feel like there's a lot of people kind of turning to
- 19:38maybe not 30 year old games, but older stuff in general.
- 19:44So yeah, I think there's absolutely a market there.
- 19:46I think the problem with like those low Poly games are not
- 19:52necessarily problem. I think the audience said that
- 19:55captured or captures is such a specific market.
- 19:58It is people our age, right, like essentially millennials,
- 20:04right? Like whether it be on the lower
- 20:07or older side of that that curve.
- 20:09But I feel like millennials are the ones that are like I
- 20:12remember playing in 64 games. I remember playing PlayStation
- 20:16one games. This is kind of neat, right?
- 20:19And. So I, it, it is really cool and
- 20:23I do enjoy that people are doing that because it's also like the,
- 20:28the, the 3D era that always gets pointed to as being like ugly,
- 20:32right? Like you look at Final Fantasy 7
- 20:34and. Yeah, the blocky, the real.
- 20:37Blocky and even then, like from my understanding at that point,
- 20:40like the the character models were pretty bad even for the
- 20:43time, right? Like, but people enjoy it and it
- 20:47because that story was so incredible that people enjoyed,
- 20:50enjoyed the game regardless. And I, I think there's something
- 20:53to be said for if you can release a game now, like Crow
- 20:56country, right? And it comes out and it has that
- 20:59art style that not everybody's going to vibe with, but it still
- 21:02gets pretty positive. Feedback.
- 21:05Of. Yours.
- 21:05People liked it. I, I, I think there's something
- 21:08to be said for your game as a whole, if you can work with that
- 21:11more minimalistic. Mouthwashing did the same thing.
- 21:16Yeah, mouthwashing was one that was.
- 21:17That's everywhere that I hate, dude.
- 21:19Oh yeah. People love that like there's
- 21:22like whole like lore dumps and like it's insane.
- 21:28Like because I like mouthwashing.
- 21:29I I fucking love mouthwashing. It's a great game.
- 21:32That's one I have not tried yet. I do need to play it and press
- 21:35it on my list. I just have.
- 21:36Yeah, that's that's another reason I'm like, you know, I
- 21:39don't know I. Don't need this, right?
- 21:42Now I don't need sadness in my games.
- 21:46Every fucking thing is sad nowadays.
- 21:48Except for Expedition 33 is like one of my favorite games of the
- 21:51year. So I don't know, maybe I do.
- 21:53Maybe I'm a sucker for it. I've.
- 21:55Been I was talking to a couple of guys at work and I, I, I
- 22:00brought up how at one point you're like, you told me like,
- 22:02did you like Ballers gate three? I was like, I love Ballers gate
- 22:053. You're like, and you're not
- 22:06going to try expedition at all. And I was like, so then like
- 22:12Zach at work was like, probably should.
- 22:15It's even on Game Pass Dog. I know you have access to it.
- 22:18I know it's it. It's not free to try, but you
- 22:22already pay for it so. I don't, yeah.
- 22:24I'll just play it. I know, I know, I know.
- 22:27I think you'll know, or you're going to hate it, but I think
- 22:30you'll love it. I'll love it because it's so
- 22:32fucking weird. Yeah.
- 22:35I'm a weird. You have to make it through act
- 22:38one. That is the that is my only
- 22:40requirement. If you drop it after act one,
- 22:42fine, but you have to make it through act one first and then
- 22:46tell me you do not want to continue that fucking game.
- 22:49All right, WASD and beyond Wheel and deal has happened.
- 22:51Shake on Cam. It'll be on YouTube.
- 22:53Yep. All right, there you go.
- 22:57I'll start next. I'll start on Monday.
- 22:59I'll stream it even. Oh.
- 23:02Hell yeah. There you go so stream on Monday
- 23:05of B play trying to play it. Can I is it?
- 23:09Did you play with a keyboard, mouse, mouse and or did you
- 23:12play? With a Go controller.
- 23:14Control OK. Or, well, no, no, no, I played
- 23:16right. There had a stroke.
- 23:19I actually think I played it mouse and keyboard.
- 23:22Just kidding because my controller was wigging out when
- 23:27I was trying to start it. Something about like the Xbox it
- 23:31it fucked with some shit but I I do believe I actually played it
- 23:35mouse and keyboard. It's friendly either way, so
- 23:38whichever way you want to all. Right now we've gone there.
- 23:41I'm I'm playing Expedition now. So yeah, I mean, it's really
- 23:45cool to see that style lend itself to the current age, to
- 23:48the current audience and to like kind of recapture us as players.
- 23:53But again, and like I just if if you're a small studio doing
- 23:59this, I have no problem with that.
- 24:02It's probably a great way to save some money for small teams.
- 24:06That's a great way to get some shit pumped out like tell and
- 24:10then you can release that game. People love it for the art
- 24:12style, sure, but it gives you more time and money to make a
- 24:17new game. I think, yeah, I, I think it's a
- 24:21great option, especially for like an indie studio to get
- 24:24their idea out in a way that isn't going to cost them $100
- 24:30million to do photo realistic graphics and mocapping and this
- 24:35and that, right? Same for pixel art, right?
- 24:38That's why pixel art took office because you had things like
- 24:42Stardew Valley or Shovel Knight, like those are two big heavy
- 24:46hitters that I think of especially at the like start of
- 24:48it that. Animal.
- 24:50Well, now. Yeah, Animal, well, like just
- 24:54it, it's very interesting and I but you don't see like third
- 24:59party studios doing that, right, which fair or not, sorry, not
- 25:03third party, but like a AAA studios doing that, which I'm OK
- 25:07with, right. I don't need them to ruin it,
- 25:10but at the same time, it's hard to look at an art style and know
- 25:13if the game is actually going to be good just because it's pixel
- 25:16art because there's so many of them.
- 25:18I in some of like, again, I'm like the the RPGJRPG kind of guy
- 25:25for all the intents and purposes.
- 25:29So you can go on to Steam right now and look at JRP GS and half
- 25:34of them are going to be things that were made in like RPG
- 25:36Maker, right? But like, bitch.
- 25:41Yeah. But we also had something like
- 25:42Sea of Stars last year that had gorgeous fucking pixel art.
- 25:46Like, it was incredible what they did there.
- 25:49So it, it's, it's a real toss up.
- 25:52Like it's, there's a lot of trends that are happening,
- 25:54especially in the indie space. I think even more so than
- 25:57anything else, that really kind of leads the direction of where
- 26:01everybody goes for the the the future.
- 26:06Another indie trend that is really popular right now is VoIP
- 26:09games like. Holding.
- 26:11Fuck, I didn't even think about that.
- 26:13That is a fucking huge one, especially if you set it up to
- 26:18where your character talks as or moves their mouth as they are.
- 26:23It's. Genius.
- 26:24It's amazing. And honestly, I think those
- 26:27games live in that like 5 to $15.00 range because you can hit
- 26:34up your, your buddies on discord, be like, listen, man,
- 26:37it's $8 eight fucking dollars. Like come on.
- 26:42Like and and people will buy it, right?
- 26:45Like that's why Lethal company was so successful, even though
- 26:48they didn't have the moving mouth things.
- 26:50But then you look at repo where they started to do the the
- 26:53moving mouth things, you've got climb more recently.
- 26:58That was a huge hit, not only because it is a fun game, but
- 27:01also the VoIP is, is pretty good where everybody sounds distant
- 27:05when they're far away. And I think those are really
- 27:10awesome fun party games that you can charge like, yeah, $10 is
- 27:15like that sweet spot, right? If you can, it's, it's really
- 27:19hard for you to convince somebody to buy a $70 game.
- 27:23But a $10 game, like you could convince somebody to buy seven
- 27:28of those motherfuckers easier than you could convince somebody
- 27:32to buy a $70 game. And it works every time.
- 27:36Almost every time. Yeah.
- 27:38I mean like I bought games for $5 that the Discord has been
- 27:41playing that I have never even touched.
- 27:45Climb though. Oh man, like that thing, the
- 27:48thing with climb that I really fucking love and I don't want
- 27:52this is my biggest fear. I don't want the triple-A realm
- 27:57to touch these things. No, I want them to stay away
- 28:01from some of these trends because it's like a let these
- 28:04studios, they're doing it, let them do it.
- 28:08I don't need Call of Duty to fucking add the fucking mouth
- 28:11move. I don't need that.
- 28:12Call of Duty just needs to fuck off for a couple years, re
- 28:15evaluate what it's doing and realize leave the fucking Beavis
- 28:19and butt head and Nicki Minaj to Fortnite.
- 28:21Makes them too much fucking money.
- 28:23They never will they that that hamster wheel has been spinning
- 28:27for the last fucking 20 years and it's not going to stop.
- 28:30I hate it. Anyways, I really just hope that
- 28:35the AAA scene, I'll the I'll say that stays away from that dude
- 28:40because like what these people are creating is fucking awesome
- 28:43and it's great time. And yes, the other trend that I
- 28:47am seeing is made for streamer games, which a lot of these fall
- 28:52into because I, I'm going to say straight up, I think streaming
- 28:57has ruined gaming in a way that most people are, are like, we
- 29:03make content. That's right, lazily.
- 29:09But still. We we could click bait, clip
- 29:15farm our shit. We do not because I love what
- 29:19I'm talking about. And if you want to hear it,
- 29:20you'll find it like, yes, I could make this more successful.
- 29:24I'm sure we could, but I'm not playing climb.
- 29:28I'm not playing repo lethal company, Crow country.
- 29:32I'm not playing these games to put to just sit on a stream,
- 29:37which is ironic because I'm gonna play Expedition on a
- 29:39stream on Monday, but I'm doing it for the clicks.
- 29:42I'm doing it because I love to play these games.
- 29:44Yeah, Like, yes, there are funny moments that happened that I'm
- 29:47like immediately I was like, that has to go online because I
- 29:50need other people to hear that joke.
- 29:51Yeah, Dylan Dawson was another one that really took over the
- 29:55Discord, right. We didn't upload shit.
- 30:00The the protocol, Lethal Protocol, something like that.
- 30:05Like that's another one. I these these party game or not
- 30:08really even party games, these like collective, almost like a
- 30:14sandbox games of some sort just really works so exceptionally
- 30:19well. But yeah, unfortunately they do
- 30:21fall into that realm of streamer game.
- 30:23You look at games like when I think of streamer games, I
- 30:27typically think of like those inherently bad games like only
- 30:31up where it's just frustrating and or getting over it with
- 30:36Benny Ben. Bennett Foddy.
- 30:38Yeah, and then there's one that I've seen my kids watch where
- 30:42there's a guy throwing a fucking milk bottle and trying to light
- 30:46it on different platform. I don't fucking know.
- 30:48But I I think I think games like Lethal Company and all these
- 30:54other VoIP games, especially the ones that have gotten extremely
- 30:57popular, I don't know if their sole intention was streaming,
- 31:01whereas I do think the ones like only up are entirely for
- 31:05streaming or chained together. Like we had some fun with
- 31:09chained together too, but that is very much a streaming game as
- 31:12well. Like there's there's a lot of
- 31:14those as well. And streamers are just a whole
- 31:18nother fucking. They're vampires.
- 31:20I I really, I really do feel like like XQC can catch his
- 31:25hands. Tim the tat man, you're a fat
- 31:28bitch. You can catch these hands man
- 31:31Ninja I I don't really hate you. You're just a Dick to people for
- 31:34no reason. I don't like, I don't like big
- 31:36streamers. No.
- 31:38I don't, because what it does is what it should do is inspire the
- 31:43younger generation of streamers and get players and gamers who
- 31:47are going to maybe end up in E sports and on Twitch and doing
- 31:51all these cool things to actually enjoy the game they're
- 31:54playing. Yeah, half the time this
- 31:57screamer epidemic is them sitting miserably in a chair
- 32:04like that big bitch queso, screaming and hating their
- 32:11fucking lives until they see the don't know it.
- 32:14And it's like, fuck you, dude. The whole personality that they
- 32:18have to take on and because that's what is popular with
- 32:22kids, right? This over stimulating,
- 32:25screaming, yelling, overreacting to fucking everything is this,
- 32:32It's terrible, right? My kids, my especially my
- 32:35youngest, he likes to watch a lot of like YouTube.
- 32:38So he will watch these YouTube videos of not necessarily
- 32:43streamers. I'm sure they stream as well,
- 32:45but where they have gotten most of their popularity is through
- 32:48YouTube. But it's the same thing, right?
- 32:51And my wife finally told him like, you can't watch these
- 32:54fucking videos in the morning because I'm going to lose my
- 32:57shit. Like before school.
- 32:58They wake up in the morning, the first thing he does is turn that
- 33:01on and you have some guy screaming into the microphone
- 33:04overreacting to the fucking 10th degree about something stupid
- 33:09that happened. You're like.
- 33:13You're going to panic like. Shit stresses me the fuck out.
- 33:18And then like I I've streamed a couple times, like I, I think I
- 33:21was playing Doom or something and there's like this constant
- 33:25need to talk almost. And I just play games that way.
- 33:28I don't really if, if we're playing in a group, I, I react
- 33:32that way, but nobody sits there and plays games the way these
- 33:34fucking people play games. They're psychopaths.
- 33:39Dude, and it's I know this sounds like old men yelling at
- 33:41clouds, but like, I just, I just, I just, I like finding
- 33:48streamers who are actually digging the things they're
- 33:52doing. Like Linco is a good example.
- 33:55Sean over in England, while he's a bit sassy online, you're
- 34:00sassy, Sean very sassy on Twitter.
- 34:03I do know for a fact the games he's playing he loves.
- 34:07Yeah, they're they're they're niche titles to the norm.
- 34:10They are. Or sometimes it's just Quake or
- 34:13Half Life or like just all these old games that he loves to play.
- 34:19Like that is sweet. When fucking misses Slaughter.
- 34:24Miss Slaughter is live for. Oh my fucking God.
- 34:30System Shock, which does this. I'm so stupid.
- 34:34Night Dive. Night dive, she she'll do the
- 34:36night dive stuff and I'm sorry, night.
- 34:39I love you night dive so much. By the way.
- 34:41I cannot believe I fucking didn't think about that.
- 34:45But like she is great because you could tell she loves it and
- 34:49then she'll go play like Sonic, like fighter like, but that's
- 34:53cool. It's cool to see people like
- 34:55that exist doing cool things and playing the games I like to play
- 34:59and then also talking with their community.
- 35:01But that's a trend that I just I, I cannot get behind is just
- 35:04these fake personalities in gaming.
- 35:07Like and like for like shroud, like I don't necessarily like
- 35:11Shroud, but at least I know he actually comes from like gaming.
- 35:16Like the dude fucking was a was, was a counter strike pro.
- 35:19Like I know you fucking care a little bit, but like, yeah,
- 35:24dude, that shit sucks. I hate that shit.
- 35:27I hate streamers. They are a cancer and I just, I
- 35:31just if there's like a celebrity boxing, I'll be like the not
- 35:36celebrity, but I'll just throw hands with anybody you tell me
- 35:40to throw hands with like I don't care.
- 35:43I'm done. Let's do it.
- 35:45WASD tag team. Oh fuck yeah.
- 35:49I just don't want to fight speed.
- 35:53He's got, he's like got that Bruce Lee body thing going on
- 35:55right now and it's he's too, he's going to be too fast.
- 35:58He's going to fuck me up. I know he's back.
- 36:01I'm done, dude. I really don't want to deal with
- 36:02that. Yeah, that's right.
- 36:06Yeah. And kind of going back into some
- 36:09of our trends here, right, we we got a touch sidetracked, but
- 36:14it's also honestly a trend that has has kind of really pointed
- 36:19the direction of a lot of developers as well.
- 36:21So it is fair to bring up in this conversation for sure, but
- 36:26one I wanted to bring up with a lot or with AAA companies
- 36:32actually is the live service game thing, which is a broad
- 36:37range. I feel like we are finally
- 36:40hitting the point where a lot of companies are not really chasing
- 36:44the battle Royale as much. I feel like that is finally
- 36:46starting to die down. It feels like it's an option
- 36:49now. Yeah, it's like usually a it's
- 36:52over here if you want it, but also like, yeah, whatever.
- 36:57But and I played, I, I played the shit out of Marvel Rivals,
- 37:01right? Like that is my life service
- 37:03game. But I you can really only
- 37:05feasibly pick one if you want to do everything in the game, if
- 37:09you want to make it through the passes, if you want to do this
- 37:11and that. Like you can really only play
- 37:13one of these. But all of these companies are
- 37:15trying to spit these things out. Like people have unlimited
- 37:18fucking time to play it's six different live service games and
- 37:23keep up with it and spend money in it.
- 37:25I mean, look at Concord, right, the probably the biggest flop of
- 37:30this decade so far as far. See how Marathon does.
- 37:34Well, yeah, a marathon might be right there.
- 37:36I just saw their CEO left today by the way.
- 37:39Don't worry, it's going into an OPE.
- 37:40It's going into another play test next month.
- 37:43I'm sure nothing has changed. And I'm still not invited.
- 37:46Fuck you, buddy. But the life service thing has
- 37:50been I honestly a scourge on fucking games.
- 37:55Like you can't just make a multiplayer game.
- 37:57You can't just make a single player game.
- 37:59There's got to be fucking and I have no problem with DLC, right?
- 38:03DLCI think is a good thing to have in games to be able to
- 38:06expand upon a single player game.
- 38:08I there's nothing wrong with that as long as it's not
- 38:11egregious. There's a way to do it.
- 38:12There's a lot of companies that have done it and done it well,
- 38:16but there's some companies that abuse that as well.
- 38:19But like, I shouldn't be buying cosmetics or or anything like
- 38:25that in a single player game. But why?
- 38:27Why is that there? Why is that that it?
- 38:29Should be unlockable. Or you can have like I you can
- 38:32have DLC that brings new cosmetics or something like
- 38:35that. But I I look at Ubisoft as I.
- 38:38Still feel dirty dude. A huge one that I've really
- 38:42despised is the way Ubisoft has handled recent Assassin's Creed
- 38:46games where they put in like a fast pass to basically level
- 38:50your fucking character up and skip a bunch of shit so you
- 38:53literally pay money to not play their fucking game.
- 38:56Which fair enough, it's an Ubisoft game, but at the same
- 38:59time the fuck like what are we doing here?
- 39:03I, I just, there's a lot of weird shit like that where
- 39:07everything just has to be able to like nickel and dime you for
- 39:10everything. Mobile games are a fucking
- 39:12nightmare. Like everything's a fucking
- 39:14nightmare with all of this microtransaction bullshit.
- 39:17It's like, yeah, the, the cost of games is going up.
- 39:22We're going $7080 now right in the US.
- 39:25And but on top of that, now you also still have to buy DLC
- 39:29that's probably also going to go up in price.
- 39:30You like if you want the full story, if you want anything
- 39:33beyond that, it's like that's where it gets egregious.
- 39:37The original price increase. I'm not stoked about either, but
- 39:40I kind of understand where that's coming from.
- 39:43But when you also just have so much microtransactions for a
- 39:47game, like if you look up a JRPG game or a Monster Hunter Wilds,
- 39:52right, Monster Hunter Wilds is a game that I think of and all of
- 39:56the Monster Hunter games have been this way where you have a
- 39:59season pass or a content pass for like a season, right?
- 40:02And so you get. Fucking D or not DLC, but like
- 40:08fucking cosmetic pack one through 5 with this one and you
- 40:12get that and it has gestures and it has emotes and it has
- 40:16hairstyles and maybe like one layer style for your your armor.
- 40:21And like that kind of stuff is just outrageous and egregious.
- 40:26And I I'm so over the life service thing and I I understand
- 40:31these companies are trying to make money, but fuck me.
- 40:33It's just it turns me off of games so quickly.
- 40:37Well, when we're already in an environment where we're spending
- 40:40more on the games and the consoles because the PlayStation
- 40:44is now more expensive to buy in America.
- 40:47So thumbs up, not going to point fingers but.
- 40:52Thumbs up. They've raised the price of the
- 40:55Switch one in America. The Switch fucking one.
- 41:00Yes, listen, I, I remember when it was called expansion packs.
- 41:09Yes, and in the expansion again, but like I don't care.
- 41:16In the expansion pack you would pay 20, sometimes 30 maybe.
- 41:22I've never paid more than 30 bucks for a big expansion pack.
- 41:26In that pack you would get almost a second game sometimes.
- 41:31Not every time, but if it was a good game with a great expansion
- 41:36pack, oh man, you'd get everything in that bitch like.
- 41:41Especially for the fall. Let's talk about the Fallout
- 41:43series, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas expansion packs.
- 41:50Fuck, 4/4 can suck my Dick from the back, but those 3, those two
- 41:57games, insane. And then if you just wait a
- 42:00couple months, you go to your GameStop and game of the year
- 42:04editions out and get it and you get it all.
- 42:07Yep. And it's like, that was awesome
- 42:10and people bitched about that. I'm like, no, this is good.
- 42:13Yeah, that was the the best way to go about it honestly.
- 42:17That being said, Bethesda is also the company that kind of
- 42:20fucked. I fucking led the the charge on
- 42:24all of this with the the horse armor.
- 42:26Yeah, well, horse armor, yeah. And then Valve head crates.
- 42:31Knives. Keys and yeah, you got to get
- 42:34this knife. And if you get this knife, you
- 42:37might be able to sell it on the marketplace for ungodly amounts
- 42:40of money, but the odds of getting said knife are very
- 42:42slim. Very slim, but like I hate the
- 42:46the concept of having to have the best skin in the game
- 42:51because skins equals wins. And like I've hopped into a game
- 42:55of Fortnite where it was like with randos or like abort this,
- 42:59abort. What do they call me if you're
- 43:01a? What do they call people who
- 43:03don't have skins? A default.
- 43:05Default. Yeah, it's default and I need
- 43:07left and I went. The fuck?
- 43:11What do I do? I will say I did spend, I, I've
- 43:15actually spent quite a bit of not a quite a bit, but a decent
- 43:18chunk of change in Fortnite just 'cause I used to play it a lot
- 43:21with my kids. So like I'd get a pass and work
- 43:24through the pass with him or whatever.
- 43:25But but like. Yeah, yeah, no, it fucking
- 43:28sucks, dude. I, I, I I'm a sucker for skins
- 43:31too. I'm going to be really honest.
- 43:32Like Marvel Rivals has me. Oh, that's got.
- 43:34You and it's called has. Me.
- 43:37Your thing? Yeah, yeah.
- 43:38Marvel's my fucking thing. But boy oh boy, it has me right
- 43:43by the nut sack. They love to see you coming,
- 43:45just like like Trauma. Trauma loves to see me.
- 43:49Yeah, we all have our fucking weakness, right?
- 43:53Bro can't help it, cannot help it.
- 43:55If you put anything spawn related in front of me, it's
- 43:59coming home. Yeah.
- 44:02Like it has to, Yeah, dude, for me, man, those are some of the
- 44:06trends that I'm really seeing that I'm really not.
- 44:08I'm either digging a lot, I'm looking back and I'm like, dude,
- 44:12like this is the problem here. Like microtransactions,
- 44:16streamers, fucking live services, dude.
- 44:20And it's just like, that's only like a microcosm of the problems
- 44:25in the industry. If you want to get big, you can
- 44:28be like, OK, well every studio is making a ton of money off
- 44:30microtransactions itself, not the game.
- 44:34But people are still losing their jobs, right?
- 44:37If you want to talk about a trend, that's what.
- 44:39But like. It's a huge fucking.
- 44:40Trend that's that is such a that is an episode all in and of
- 44:45itself that I would actually have to spend half the week
- 44:48studying to get my facts completely right to then talk
- 44:52about these companies and how they fuck their people over
- 44:55because I don't want to sound like an asshole.
- 44:59Yeah. And even yeah, that, that that's
- 45:02a fucking yeah. That's a beehive.
- 45:04That's a tough situation, right? And and it's, that's
- 45:09unfortunately the worst trend in a, in a landscape where we
- 45:14already have a lot of bad trends.
- 45:16I didn't want to point out essentially like kind of the
- 45:20give a little bit of a not necessarily closing remark
- 45:24because I don't really feel I feel like I talked in circles a
- 45:27touch on this. But I think most of the artistic
- 45:30trends, the things where we're trying out, you know, voxel art
- 45:34or low Poly or pixel art or one of my favorites that I've seen
- 45:39in recent years is like the Octopath Traveler where it's
- 45:42that two DHD with like that you still have a shed like it looks
- 45:47so good, like I. Walk looks like that.
- 45:50Yeah, like, I love these artistic trends.
- 45:53I love things like The Night is Grey, where they're going back
- 45:57to a old school point and click. Like, I love those kinds of
- 46:02things that are not necessarily leaning on the nostalgia factor,
- 46:06but they're just kind of going back to what they know, right?
- 46:09The people making these games are probably our fucking age,
- 46:12and they probably played these games when they were younger.
- 46:14And like, I love this game. I want to do something like
- 46:17that. I like those trends, whereas the
- 46:23the trends in gaming of trying to constantly chase this, this
- 46:27hamster wheel of fucking oh, battle Royals.
- 46:31Oh, we got to do this now we're. Extraction now.
- 46:34And yeah, like the extraction shooter.
- 46:36Yeah, again, we've talked about that, right?
- 46:37Marathon should not be a fucking extraction shooter.
- 46:40It should be. A player experience.
- 46:42Or even a Destiny like thing, right?
- 46:44Something like that would have worked so well for the world,
- 46:47for your storytelling. You don't tell a story in a
- 46:49fucking extraction shooter. You can I guess.
- 46:52They're saying it's possible. Yeah, fuck them.
- 46:55They they. Yeah, after playing that, no.
- 46:59Back to the drawing board, baby. But those kinds of trends are
- 47:03the trends that get old because what happens is these companies
- 47:06see one successful game in that end or in that that market, that
- 47:11niche market, whatever it may be.
- 47:12And then it may blow up, right? And then it takes five years for
- 47:16them to put out a game because development takes forever.
- 47:20And then five years. Look at look at how many battle
- 47:23royales we got in 2021. Yeah.
- 47:27Like give give or take five years after Fortnight really
- 47:31fucking blew up, right? Give or take when fucking pub G
- 47:35really blew. Up Well, yeah, Pub G was really
- 47:37the the catalyst for it and then Fortnight got massive and and so
- 47:41everybody's like we have to make a battle Royale now.
- 47:43So then we got that really bad Battlefield 1.
- 47:46We've got I mean, we have war Zone, which really holds its
- 47:49own, I think, But that's again, the people who are buying the
- 47:53Maddens, the Call of Duty, and that's the two games they
- 47:56purchased for a year. We had AI had a whole
- 47:58conversation in the the Discord about that today of like.
- 48:01The normies. Yeah, the the, the fucking
- 48:03normies. And that is the vast majority of
- 48:05people who play games like whether you like it or not, then
- 48:08that's what it is. And that's why it sells like
- 48:10crazy and they buy all the fucking whatever, right.
- 48:14But it's but yeah, it's this, this trend chasing mentality
- 48:23that these execs have at these companies.
- 48:25It doesn't get them anywhere because they end up spending a
- 48:28bunch of money to develop a game that is five years too late to
- 48:31the fucking party. Yeah.
- 48:33Do something like a. Marathon.
- 48:35Yeah, oh Marathon is way too late to the party to be in a
- 48:38fucking extraction shooter. I feel like the day the heyday
- 48:41of extraction shooters has come and gone.
- 48:44And people are already done with Tarkov and it's not even
- 48:46fucking. Have you finished yet?
- 48:49Well, yeah, that's a whole nother ball game there.
- 48:51Fuck Nikita. Yeah, anyways, yeah, I know.
- 48:55I I like a lot of the artsy stuff.
- 48:58I do like to experimental things.
- 49:01Yeah, I mean do like, I love that shit and I want to see more
- 49:05of it. I don't want to see the same low
- 49:08Poly things. Right.
- 49:09Like if you're going to do it, do it.
- 49:11Awesome. Yeah.
- 49:13Like do something that you want to do.
- 49:15That's what I like seeing when people create things they want
- 49:17to create. But some of these other trends
- 49:21we discussed, man, are just fucking killing it for me.
- 49:23And it bums me out because then we have to get on the show and
- 49:25we have to be negative while we're also trying to be
- 49:27positive, right? It's like fuck me man, I just
- 49:31like video games and you are fucking it all up.
- 49:34Yeah, I think any games have it right, and I think AAA games
- 49:38have just become soulless for the most part.
- 49:41They feel like that, dude, But then you get those, like, really
- 49:46like diamonds in the roughs, like Larian.
- 49:49Yeah, where it's like, thank God you're here.
- 49:52And then like I'll say for Valve, look at Deadlock now,
- 49:55like that big update came out, everyone's like, OK, keep
- 49:59cooking. I keep forgetting that game
- 50:02exists. Yes, that's what they want you
- 50:05to do. That's what Valve wants you to
- 50:08do. But no, it had a huge update and
- 50:09everyone loved it. Everyone loved the the update.
- 50:13So it's like there's there's these studios that do exist that
- 50:16you know, we're going to continue to pave the way.
- 50:18Remedy yeah, FBC fire breaks. Not good.
- 50:22But Alan Wake is an example of a fucking game that shouldn't be
- 50:28fun. Almost it just fucking is
- 50:31because the story and just how important events are in that
- 50:36game and just how like it is in your face and just fun.
- 50:39Death Stranding is a game that the first one was going to bring
- 50:42that up, Loved or hated. But even then, like there's a
- 50:46certain amount of respect that comes with it too.
- 50:48Like even if you don't like it, like you got to be like this
- 50:51dude fucking went for it. Like he, he did the fucking
- 50:55thing and he did it again. And it's weird as shit.
- 50:59And it is better than the first weird shit thing.
- 51:01Yeah, like it's the strangest fucking concept for a game
- 51:05you've ever heard in your entire life.
- 51:06And he fucking went for it. And people love it.
- 51:08Like for the most part, right? I love.
- 51:11Death training. Yeah, so it's like, that's the
- 51:13kind of shit I I want to see. I miss in going through all
- 51:19these older games and everything recently.
- 51:22I'm like tiptoeing around what I'm doing, even though everyone
- 51:24knows what I'm doing. Like seeing games on there that
- 51:29I'm like, yeah, like, that was a cool new idea.
- 51:32This was a cool new idea. Like that.
- 51:36That's the stuff that really does make me appreciate older
- 51:40games, even though I don't go back and play them as often as I
- 51:42would like to. It's it's everything.
- 51:45It was a new landscape. It was a, hey, push it, See how
- 51:49far we can go, see what we can do what, what works, what
- 51:52doesn't work. It was creative and outside of
- 51:56the indie space, like that's gone because companies can't
- 52:00afford to make the risk. They, they can't, like we talked
- 52:03about that on the last episode, They, they cannot afford to put
- 52:06out a game that doesn't hit because they spent 200, fucking
- 52:10$1,000,000 on it. Right.
- 52:11Yeah. It sucks.
- 52:14It's a, it's a bad landscape that I'm not going to say we
- 52:17have made, but the the gaming as a whole has come to because it
- 52:22is more business than it is entertainment anymore.
- 52:25Yes, yeah. And I mean, hopefully one day
- 52:29it'll change. There are a lot of cool things
- 52:31coming. I mean, Big mode from Donkey is
- 52:34just an awesome thing. I love seeing it.
- 52:38And there's just tons of shit. You got new blood, you got Night
- 52:41Dive, you got big mode of the biggest one out of the mall,
- 52:45obviously is Valve. But like, Valve is doing cool
- 52:47shit again. And fucking Larian.
- 52:49I cannot wait to see what Larian does next.
- 52:52The studio behind Expedition 33, that was their first game and it
- 52:56was the most is one of the most loved games of this year.
- 52:59The director or the the writer for that game?
- 53:02That was her first video game she has ever worked on.
- 53:05And it's about to be a movie. It's incredible.
- 53:09Things and things can and will go, right?
- 53:13Yes, if we just let it. Yep.
- 53:16Absolutely. That's where the bow is.
