Lucas: Yeah, it's good to be polite. Today, let's go to the post office again — but this time to send a parcel. Luna: Ooh, I've actually needed that. What's the first thing I'd say? Lucas: You walk up and say: Ik wil een pakketje versturen. That means 'I want to send a parcel.' Let's break it down. Luna: Ik wil een pakketje versturen. Lucas: Yes. Ik wil een pakketje versturen. Try it once more. Luna: Ik wil een pakketje versturen. Lucas: Perfect. Now the post office worker might ask: Wat weegt het? That's 'What does it weigh?' Luna: Wat weegt het? Lucas: Right. Wat weegt het? You'd need to know the weight. Let's say your parcel is 1 kilo. You could say: Het weegt een kilo. Luna: Het weegt een kilo. Lucas: Yes. Or if you don't know, you can say: Ik weet het niet. 'I don't know.' Luna: Okay, good. Then they'll tell me the cost? How do I ask how much it is to send? Lucas: You ask: Hoeveel kost het om dit te versturen? That's 'How much does it cost to send this?' Luna: Hoeveel kost het om dit te versturen? That's a mouthful. Lucas: It is, but you can do it.
