- 0:05Speaker 1: The Galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast, Puppy Live.
- 0:21Speaker 2: From studios in Idaho, Michigan, and New York. This is
- 0:26Speaker 2: trek Cast, the Galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast. Today
- 0:30Speaker 2: on the show, we are going to be talking about
- 0:33Speaker 2: the Star Trek the Next Generation episode Timescape. Plus, we've
- 0:38Speaker 2: got Star Trek News and your listener feedback. I'm Scott
- 0:43Speaker 2: Bouchers with Dan Lombardo and now the chief engineer of
- 0:47Speaker 2: trek Cast, Daniel Reyes.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Am I the chief engineer?
- 0:52Speaker 2: You are?
- 0:54Speaker 4: You're the only engineer? Yeah? No, which makes you the
- 0:59Speaker 4: chief Oh no?
- 1:01Speaker 2: If you're I guess you could be the operations officer.
- 1:05Speaker 2: You have.
- 1:06Speaker 4: You have the distinction of being the only person to
- 1:11Speaker 4: appear in every modern episode of truck Cast.
- 1:15Speaker 2: That's true.
- 1:16Speaker 4: You know, sometimes Chad wouldn't be here and we do
- 1:19Speaker 4: the show. Sometimes I wouldn't be here and we do
- 1:22Speaker 4: the show. But I'm new if Daniel, yeah, the other guy,
- 1:27Speaker 4: if he sometimes he's not here, all right, But if
- 1:30Speaker 4: Daniel wasn't available, there just wasn't a show.
- 1:33Speaker 3: I feel like no, because Chad used to run everything
- 1:37Speaker 3: for a while there, and I feel like there was
- 1:39Speaker 3: one or two that I missed back then.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Well then you still have the distinction of being in
- 1:44Speaker 2: the most episodes. You are the wah that might be that. Yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 2: you're the wharf of the wharf. Yeah, you're the wharf
- 1:50Speaker 2: of trucks.
- 1:51Speaker 3: I'm not tall as like wharf, but.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Yes, but you you represent this house with honor.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Yes, there you go.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Well, good morning, everybody. How are you?
- 2:02Speaker 3: Yeah, good morning. How's everyone doing?
- 2:04Speaker 4: All right?
- 2:05Speaker 2: Okay, I'm I'm very I'm very glad that I took
- 2:10Speaker 2: two weeks off because we just got back from vacation.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Yeah, uncle traveling Matt over here has been running around
- 2:15Speaker 4: out of space.
- 2:16Speaker 3: That's right, that's right, hanging out with.
- 2:21Speaker 4: A week fraggle rock reference to those who didn't.
- 2:25Speaker 2: But anyway, I yeah, I had you know, I get
- 2:29Speaker 2: four weeks off a year, and and we had nothing
- 2:32Speaker 2: much going on the rest of the year. So I'm like,
- 2:34Speaker 2: I'll take two weeks off in a row. And I'm
- 2:36Speaker 2: glad I did because I need a vacation. Yeah. From
- 2:39Speaker 2: my vacation, Yeah, we went to Detroit, had a lot
- 2:44Speaker 2: of fun, went to a lot of things, went to
- 2:46Speaker 2: Canada because when they think of Detroit, caught a Tiger's game.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Oh nice, went to Uh first off was a reputorium,
- 2:58Speaker 2: A bunch of snakes and Liz and fish. The Detroit Zoo,
- 3:03Speaker 2: Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village. My my family lost a
- 3:07Speaker 2: bunch of money at the casino in Canada. Oh no,
- 3:10Speaker 2: my son and his girlfriend legally had some adult beverages
- 3:14Speaker 2: in Canada. Okay, okay, Yeah, I had a had a
- 3:19Speaker 2: real good time. So but I'm I'm glad that I
- 3:22Speaker 2: don't have to do anything for the next week because
- 3:25Speaker 2: I'm exhausted. A lot of walking, Yeah, a lot of walking.
- 3:30Speaker 4: So I'm still here. I'm just making a camera adjustment, Okay,
- 3:36Speaker 4: or at least trying.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yeah, what was uh? I noticed you you've visited quite
- 3:42Speaker 3: a few pizza places. Is there a is there a highlight?
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yeah, Dave, that's right.
- 3:49Speaker 3: That's right.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I wanted to talk about that. Chicago pizza was crap.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Detroit really just pizza was on point. We went to
- 4:01Speaker 2: two pizza places. We went to Green Lantern Pizza and
- 4:05Speaker 2: we went to Buddies.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Yeah, what's the deal? What's the deal with the Greenland
- 4:10Speaker 4: is it?
- 4:11Speaker 2: I looked around. There was zero references to Green Lantern
- 4:15Speaker 2: from DC. Okay, I don't, I'll have to do some
- 4:19Speaker 2: more digging. We we just kind of went there eight
- 4:21Speaker 2: and less.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Do we have an actual Green Lantern?
- 4:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it was unclear. I told myself I was going
- 4:30Speaker 2: to do some research on it. I haven't done it yet,
- 4:32Speaker 2: but as far as the name, but two names stood
- 4:35Speaker 2: out during my research. It was Buddies and Green Lantern
- 4:38Speaker 2: as the best pizza places in Detroit. And we went
- 4:40Speaker 2: to the original Buddies and it was the apparently it
- 4:45Speaker 2: was the origin of the Detroit style deep dish pizza.
- 4:48Speaker 2: And we went to store number one. So, I mean
- 4:51Speaker 2: it was in the heart of downtown Detroit, and it
- 4:56Speaker 2: was in an old building and it was sort of
- 5:00Speaker 2: not not really off the beaten path, but it was
- 5:02Speaker 2: It didn't look like a restaurant, and it wasn't on
- 5:04Speaker 2: a street that you would associate with a bunch of
- 5:08Speaker 2: businesses that cater to like people that going out to eat.
- 5:11Speaker 2: It was like sort of industrial ish, sketchy, but I mean,
- 5:18Speaker 2: usually the best pizza, and it was. It was delicious pizza.
- 5:22Speaker 2: If I had to choose between Buddies and Green Lantern,
- 5:27Speaker 2: I think Green Lanterns slightly edged out.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Okay, Buddies.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Pizza apparently, yes, you had you had to take an
- 5:39Speaker 2: oath before you. Yeah, Buddies Pizza was great. It was fantastic,
- 5:45Speaker 2: one of the best pizzas I ever had.
- 5:46Speaker 3: But it had in hot pepperoni, you know how like
- 5:52Speaker 3: no glories escape.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to come up with a to come
- 5:59Speaker 2: up with a o for the so but.
- 6:00Speaker 4: You know, I'm curious homemade dish. Green Lantern Pizza. The
- 6:06Speaker 4: was the place old like it had been in operation
- 6:08Speaker 4: for chain.
- 6:09Speaker 2: It was a chain.
- 6:11Speaker 4: It's a chain.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Buddies was too, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be
- 6:14Speaker 3: old like it was old. Yeah, they started a change.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Well I didn't like I said. I haven't done the
- 6:22Speaker 2: research on green lantern.
- 6:24Speaker 4: The name greenland. The idea of a green lantern predates
- 6:28Speaker 4: DC comics. It comes from the The name comes from
- 6:31Speaker 4: the fact it's kind of messy. It really doesn't fit
- 6:33Speaker 4: into their origin right because it's an it's an earthly thing.
- 6:37Speaker 4: The green lantern comes from early police officers carried a
- 6:40Speaker 4: green lantern so that you could spot them at night,
- 6:44Speaker 4: and there's even a carryover today in New York City
- 6:48Speaker 4: police precincts. The lights hanging outside the door are green
- 6:54Speaker 4: to this day. Yes, I don't know. I don't know
- 6:56Speaker 4: if it's a New York thing, because even in upstate
- 6:58Speaker 4: New York, some old police station and still.
- 7:01Speaker 3: I gotta so the idea of the website, I got.
- 7:03Speaker 4: It, Okay, but you know, we're talking. It's a show
- 7:06Speaker 4: about not reading from the internet. Okay, So it's a
- 7:12Speaker 4: little it's a little messy that you have this space
- 7:15Speaker 4: bearing galactic police force that's named after an Earth custom.
- 7:19Speaker 4: But anyway, so yeah, what what'd you find?
- 7:22Speaker 2: What are googling right or googling wrong?
- 7:24Speaker 3: This is from their website. They were started in nineteen
- 7:27Speaker 3: fifty five, and they were originally the Green Lantern Tavern
- 7:33Speaker 3: and then they evolved into the Green Lantern Pizza.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Okay, so it may have been a police bar, meaning
- 7:41Speaker 4: a bar that opens at seven o'clock in the morning
- 7:45Speaker 4: for the guys who are getting off of work and
- 7:49Speaker 4: their happy hour starts at seven fifteen, right, right, Yeah.
- 7:54Speaker 2: You know, the the green lantern thing that you mentioned
- 7:57Speaker 2: about police It makes sense because all throughout Detroit there
- 8:00Speaker 2: are these these flashing strobe green lights and I'm like,
- 8:04Speaker 2: what the hell is is that? And as I'm popping
- 8:07Speaker 2: further inspection. It's a cluster of cameras. Yeah, and they're
- 8:11Speaker 2: I'm not entirely sure, but I believe that they're either
- 8:14Speaker 2: owned or monitored by the Detroit Police Department. Okay, so,
- 8:18Speaker 2: and speaking of the Detroit Police Department, I met the
- 8:21Speaker 2: most famous member of the Detroit Police Department. It's it's
- 8:25Speaker 2: I put it up on the trek cast Facebook group.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Most dedicated member.
- 8:30Speaker 2: That's right, yeah, I mean work the next day, that's
- 8:37Speaker 2: I saw the Robocops statue, the eleven foot tall bronze
- 8:40Speaker 2: robo Cops statue, and it was amazing. I loved it,
- 8:43Speaker 2: got a bunch of pictures with it. My kids were like, who, yeah,
- 8:51Speaker 2: what is this? I have no idea. And I'm like
- 8:54Speaker 2: and I'm looking at my fourteen year old and I'm like,
- 8:57Speaker 2: should I show him RoboCop.
- 9:00Speaker 4: They're like Joel, They're like, Joel Kinneman has a statue. Yes.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And I took the pictures and then I went back
- 9:13Speaker 2: because I wanted to do a little video. I took
- 9:15Speaker 2: a little video and I had my I'm such a
- 9:18Speaker 2: horrible cinematographer. I had my son play the music of
- 9:23Speaker 2: RoboCop on his iPhone while near me while I did
- 9:29Speaker 2: a little panoramic view around RoboCop. You'll have to go
- 9:33Speaker 2: on the and it actually turned out little good. You'll
- 9:36Speaker 2: have to go on the Facebook page on the truck
- 9:38Speaker 2: Ass facebook page and check it out. But there he
- 9:40Speaker 2: is in all his glory RoboCop from the nineteen eighty
- 9:43Speaker 2: seven film, So.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Nice classic film.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Yep, yeah, that's a good one.
- 9:49Speaker 4: Roop Robocops. Sound sounds like good weekend.
- 9:52Speaker 2: What are we doing today, Daniel?
- 9:56Speaker 4: Oh?
- 9:56Speaker 3: Yeah, so today is the thir three of the TNG
- 10:02Speaker 3: episode Time Escape. It's from season six, what episode twenty
- 10:07Speaker 3: five something like that, I think, so, yeah, yeah, that
- 10:10Speaker 3: sounds right.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Yeah, you're ready for some news.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Oh okay, I was gonna say. This's from an idea
- 10:16Speaker 3: that Dan had a few weeks ago. We were scrambling
- 10:20Speaker 3: like what are we gonna do one week? And uh,
- 10:22Speaker 3: He's like, look up, what episode came out that day?
- 10:25Speaker 4: Do something?
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, great idea? Random?
- 10:28Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's went in doubt.
- 10:31Speaker 4: We looked at that's what we do. We looked back.
- 10:34Speaker 4: We looked back through the timescape.
- 10:36Speaker 3: That's right through the play on time crystals and.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Stop, why ruin it? Why do you have to ruin it?
- 10:44Speaker 4: We were having an ice moment, and that's right.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Yes, terrible, terrible. Yeah, we do have news as well. Yeah,
- 10:53Speaker 3: we can get to the news now if you guys want.
- 10:54Speaker 2: To do it, let's do it.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Star Trek News.
- 11:00Speaker 3: All right, So our first news story comes to us
- 11:04Speaker 3: from NPR. It's a uh, it's kind of a big deal.
- 11:08Speaker 3: And so if we're gonna play this, you're gonna do it, right,
- 11:12Speaker 3: So let's do this.
- 11:18Speaker 4: What's up with the mount what's up with them Mount?
- 11:21Speaker 4: And what's up with them Mount?
- 11:23Speaker 3: Oh, there's a lot going on with the Mount. The
- 11:25Speaker 3: Mountain is getting some action. According to NPR, the Justice
- 11:29Speaker 3: Department has just approved Paramount's acquisition of Warner Brothers Discovery.
- 11:34Speaker 4: All right, now, hold on a minute, Hold on a minute.
- 11:37Speaker 4: I don't want the snyderbots to get excited. That was
- 11:40Speaker 4: the Justice Department, not the Justice League. It's right, totally totally,
- 11:45Speaker 4: totally different thing.
- 11:46Speaker 3: That's right. That's right.
- 11:47Speaker 4: One is real and is here. The other one is
- 11:50Speaker 4: never coming back.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Continue exactly. Yes, So the Justice Department has has cleared
- 11:58Speaker 3: the way for Paramount to acquire Warner Brothers. Now, this
- 12:02Speaker 3: does not mean that the merger is done. It just
- 12:06Speaker 3: means the US government is cool with it. I know
- 12:08Speaker 3: the Australian government recently gave their they're okay as well.
- 12:13Speaker 3: But this still has to go through uh. The European
- 12:16Speaker 3: Union needs to sign off on it because it's an
- 12:19Speaker 3: international thing, so everywhere basically has to say the mergers okay, yeah, yeah,
- 12:26Speaker 3: it's an insane.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Elon must could buy it and still have a trillion dollars.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, okay, that's how rich he is. Yeah, but
- 12:35Speaker 3: but this is one of the big things they need
- 12:37Speaker 3: to watch out for. I guess there's also some states
- 12:39Speaker 3: that are considering, uh suing to to prevent this, so
- 12:43Speaker 3: that might I mean, that's a stall tactic. It's not
- 12:46Speaker 3: gonna win, but it's just a stall tactic.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Uh.
- 12:49Speaker 3: There's also an issue too that for I think it's
- 12:54Speaker 3: once it reached a certain point, for every day that
- 12:57Speaker 3: they that the merger doesn't go through, paramount Owes Warner
- 13:02Speaker 3: Brothers the money or it's every quarter or something like that.
- 13:06Speaker 3: So yeah, just a big cluster all around, which is
- 13:12Speaker 3: kind of funny that if they owe money and then
- 13:14Speaker 3: they acquire them later, then how are you really paying
- 13:17Speaker 3: somebody whatever? But so yeah, so that's what's going on
- 13:22Speaker 3: there should happen by the end of the year.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Looks like so okay, So the Department of Justice is involved,
- 13:30Speaker 2: just like with any major corporate merger, acquisition or whatever,
- 13:34Speaker 2: to make sure that they're not going It all boils
- 13:37Speaker 2: down to is it what's good for the consumer? Right?
- 13:40Speaker 2: You know?
- 13:42Speaker 4: In the industry, Well, it boils down to, uh, you
- 13:46Speaker 4: can't have a monopoly, That's what it boils down to.
- 13:48Speaker 4: It's an anti trust thing, right, and you know somebody
- 13:54Speaker 4: else can always make more content. I don't know how
- 13:57Speaker 4: this is an anti trust thing.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Well, is this going to benefit us at all? We're
- 14:03Speaker 2: Paramount Plus consumers? Okay, And I've seen some I've seen
- 14:09Speaker 2: some stuff online where people are protesting Paramount Plus, whether
- 14:13Speaker 2: it's an anti Trump thing or mostly yeah things today, right, right?
- 14:20Speaker 2: So yeah, if you're of a certain type of person
- 14:27Speaker 2: that doesn't like certain people, how do you consume Star Trek?
- 14:33Speaker 4: You don't. That's what boycotts are supposed to be. You make,
- 14:37Speaker 4: you make a choice, you make a stand. I believe
- 14:40Speaker 4: in this more than I like watching Star Trek, So
- 14:43Speaker 4: I'm going to not watch Star Trek to show that
- 14:45Speaker 4: I believe in this. If you can't keep yourself from
- 14:48Speaker 4: watching Star Trek. Then you don't believe in that that much.
- 14:53Speaker 4: That's the Yeah, I just don't.
- 14:55Speaker 2: I don't. I don't give it that much thought. I mean,
- 14:58Speaker 2: you know, if Paramount plus was like you burning babies
- 15:01Speaker 2: or something, I might, you know, have a different opinion.
- 15:05Speaker 2: I don't know why I came up with that.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Particularly you're against burning babies.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I usually say eating babies.
- 15:13Speaker 2: But ladies and gentlemen, if you're gonna eat babies, you should.
- 15:16Speaker 4: At least usually least cook them.
- 15:18Speaker 3: I guess, I guess.
- 15:20Speaker 4: I mean, what kind of monster eats them raw? A
- 15:22Speaker 4: worse monster than the one that eats them cooked?
- 15:26Speaker 2: The most unpredictable Star Trek podcast, Ladies and Night, that's
- 15:29Speaker 2: a right.
- 15:29Speaker 4: Today's topic eating babies.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Oh my god, God.
- 15:35Speaker 2: I could have a field day with me someday.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Speaking of eating babies, our next news story comeses from
- 15:40Speaker 3: trekmovie dot com and Uh, one of the eight hundred
- 15:45Speaker 3: producers of Star Trek Stranger the Worlds, recently did an
- 15:48Speaker 3: interview with trekmovie dot com. Uh Bill what is his name? Bill?
- 15:54Speaker 3: Woke off and Uh he's out there telling everyone, Hey, man,
- 16:00Speaker 3: get excited. Strange to the World Season four is right
- 16:02Speaker 3: around the corner, and uh they learned lessons from season three,
- 16:05Speaker 3: is what he's saying, and that they're promising it's more
- 16:09Speaker 3: more Star Trek, that there's not nearly as many big
- 16:13Speaker 3: swings as we've been told, and uh, that it'll be good.
- 16:18Speaker 3: What's what's funny to me is about a month ago
- 16:22Speaker 3: Alex Kurtzman and Keith of Goldsman came out and said,
- 16:26Speaker 3: there's a ton of big swings if we can't wait
- 16:28Speaker 3: to show it. What is it? Are we taking big
- 16:33Speaker 3: swings or not? What's going on?
- 16:36Speaker 2: I don't know. I have one word for season four?
- 16:40Speaker 3: What's that?
- 16:40Speaker 2: Muppets?
- 16:42Speaker 3: Yeah, the Muppet which we now know is a transporter accident.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Okay, sorry, I'm looking outside. It's like pouring down rain.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Yeah. To me, this this whole interview feels like, uh,
- 16:58Speaker 3: they're seeing a lot of online atgitation already and worry
- 17:02Speaker 3: and they're trying to curb that.
- 17:05Speaker 2: So I don't know, I trying to they're they're they're
- 17:10Speaker 2: they're advertising, they're What they're trying to do is make
- 17:16Speaker 2: it so that people will watch it. Yes, Like their
- 17:20Speaker 2: promotion is literally it's not as bad as last time.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. Well, and then the other funny thing is
- 17:26Speaker 3: they're like, we learned from season three. Yeah, but you
- 17:29Speaker 3: were already shooting season four as season three was airing.
- 17:32Speaker 2: So what they meant to say is we learned to
- 17:35Speaker 2: promote better for season four.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 17:40Speaker 2: And then after they were in post, they were in
- 17:43Speaker 2: production when season three came out, right.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Yeah, they were on post of season four and shooting
- 17:49Speaker 3: season five.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Oh geez, okay.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, but if you're shooting season five while you're
- 17:57Speaker 4: in post for season four, it's very easy to do
- 18:03Speaker 4: reshoots if you want to. Yes, if you want to
- 18:07Speaker 4: course correct, you already have the crew assembled, You already
- 18:10Speaker 4: have the actors assembled, The sets are are there. I mean,
- 18:12Speaker 4: everything is is there and up and running. So we'll see.
- 18:18Speaker 3: And it's less episodes for season five, so I can't
- 18:21Speaker 3: do that many big swings. But yeah, so there you go.
- 18:26Speaker 3: So yeah, next news story comes to us from slash
- 18:30Speaker 3: film dot com and apparently we are learning more about
- 18:35Speaker 3: what caused the problems on Star Trek Nemesis. So yeah,
- 18:41Speaker 3: this comes to us from a recent interview on the
- 18:45Speaker 3: Dropping Names podcast. That's the one with Raker and Data.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Great podcast by the way.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I was.
- 18:52Speaker 4: I was about to say, they're researching this now, and
- 18:55Speaker 4: then I remember that we're we're reviewing a thirty three
- 18:58Speaker 4: year old episode of Star Check.
- 19:00Speaker 3: So that's right, that's right, that's right, that's kind of why.
- 19:03Speaker 3: That's kind of what maybe justified doing the story in
- 19:06Speaker 3: my head. Yeah, it's like, yeah, it's it's fine, it
- 19:08Speaker 3: goes with it. So basically what they're what Jonathan Franks
- 19:12Speaker 3: was saying on his podcast Freaks. Yeah, they were interviewing
- 19:18Speaker 3: Ron Pearlman talking about this, and so they all three
- 19:22Speaker 3: of them, Brett Spiner, Jonathan Frakes, and Ron Peerlman all
- 19:26Speaker 3: said basically, it was the director to blame. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 19:31Speaker 3: The director did not want any part of this movie,
- 19:34Speaker 3: did not care about Star Trek. Apparently he was an
- 19:37Speaker 3: editor that had saved a lot of like past movies
- 19:41Speaker 3: and editing and made them look good.
- 19:43Speaker 2: And so I can't stand the guy. I put him
- 19:46Speaker 2: in the same category as Alex Hertzmann, Stuart.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Something, Yeah, Stuart Barrett, I think, right.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't.
- 19:53Speaker 2: I don't throw the word hate around very much. I
- 19:57Speaker 2: hate that guy.
- 19:59Speaker 4: So here's the here's my thing though, where where was
- 20:05Speaker 4: Patrick Stewart when all of these wrong turns were being made.
- 20:12Speaker 4: And not to not to put the blame on Patrick Stewart,
- 20:15Speaker 4: but at this point, this is this is two thousand
- 20:18Speaker 4: and two, this movie came out. Yeah, so it was
- 20:23Speaker 4: probably shot in two thousand and one. He's he's part
- 20:27Speaker 4: of two major franchises at this point, Star Trek and
- 20:31Speaker 4: X Men. His star power is at its peak. Yeah,
- 20:37Speaker 4: how does he not stand up and do something about
- 20:42Speaker 4: this while it's being made? This is this is garbage.
- 20:45Speaker 4: We need to we need to fix this.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah, him and Jonathan Frakes John Franks didn't have as
- 20:50Speaker 2: much as Patrick Stewart maybe, but you know, he was
- 20:55Speaker 2: an inside man. He had directed a couple of past
- 20:58Speaker 2: very successful Start Trek movies, one of the most successful,
- 21:03Speaker 2: arguably Star Trek. First Contact, the two of them together
- 21:08Speaker 2: rising up and saying, hey, get rid of this bird.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Weird shit guy, because it was a disaster from the beginning.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Especially he had this this director. He was he was
- 21:22Speaker 2: constantly against the grain with everybody. Yeah, you know, yeah,
- 21:30Speaker 2: and he came in with this attitude. And I've seen
- 21:32Speaker 2: behind the scenes stuff and I'm and I've I've seen
- 21:34Speaker 2: like interviews that actors did where they were kind of
- 21:37Speaker 2: tiptoeing around the issue of we can't stand this guy,
- 21:40Speaker 2: but they were being diplomatic about it, like, oh, he
- 21:43Speaker 2: had his way of doing things. He wasn't a Star
- 21:46Speaker 2: Trek guy. He was an action guy and editor, like
- 21:48Speaker 2: Dan said, and he he almost hated Star Trek. He
- 21:53Speaker 2: just wanted to do this, to do this because he
- 21:54Speaker 2: got the job, and and he there was a lot
- 21:58Speaker 2: of pushback, and I, yeah, I you know, I told
- 22:03Speaker 2: I said it to Jonathan Frakes's face one time. I said,
- 22:06Speaker 2: if you had directed Star Trek Nemesis, they would be
- 22:08Speaker 2: making Star Trek twenty three right now. And he looked
- 22:12Speaker 2: at me and he said, from your mouth to God's ears. Yeah,
- 22:15Speaker 2: And I think I was right. I honestly think I
- 22:18Speaker 2: was right. If they he had been allowed to steer
- 22:21Speaker 2: the ship, you know, and every Star Trek uh, the
- 22:25Speaker 2: one with the what was the one before Star Trek
- 22:29Speaker 2: Nemesis that wasn't Insurrection? Insurrection That wasn't a hit, but
- 22:34Speaker 2: it was an It was a serviceable movie. I enjoyed it.
- 22:39Speaker 2: There was things wrong. Line, Yeah, it was a fine
- 22:42Speaker 2: two parter. And not everybody's going to hit a Home
- 22:45Speaker 2: Run okay, but Nemesis was horrible.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Yeah yeah.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Other than that, I have almost no thoughts on the subject.
- 22:55Speaker 3: I will still take Nemesis over the majority of what
- 22:58Speaker 3: we received in the past few year. Well yeah, yeah, unfortunately.
- 23:04Speaker 3: So all right, yeah, well uh yeah. So that's all
- 23:09Speaker 3: the news stories. I guess we should get to our
- 23:13Speaker 3: main topic.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Fun will now come out.
- 23:21Speaker 3: All right. So today is the thirty third anniversary of Timescape.
- 23:27Speaker 3: The TNG episode, season six, episode twenty five, originally aired
- 23:33Speaker 3: June fourteenth, nineteen ninety three.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Yeah yeah episode.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Look who directed it?
- 23:43Speaker 2: Yep, adam me mooy.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Adam Yeah, yep yeah. Written by Brandon Braga, who.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Is now known as UH. I think they call him
- 23:55Speaker 4: mister Mister Dax is the same.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Yeah, people love him.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Yeah. He's married to Terry Farrell, who played jud Zia
- 24:06Speaker 4: for those who Yeah, he's the son of Leonard D.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Moy the very first Mister Spock from t O S.
- 24:17Speaker 4: I didn't know. I didn't know he directed this. I
- 24:19Speaker 4: caught it during the during the rewatch this morning. I
- 24:23Speaker 4: saw in the in the credits. I was like, oh, wow,
- 24:25Speaker 4: look at that. I had no idea. Oh.
- 24:28Speaker 3: According to uh. According to Wikipedia, him and Terry Ferrell
- 24:32Speaker 3: are divorced.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Oh so okay, yeah, who who got the symbia in
- 24:41Speaker 4: the Yeah, I don't know.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Maybe that's why she was extra flirty with me when
- 24:45Speaker 2: I met her a couple of years.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, that's what it was. That's definitely what I
- 24:53Speaker 4: had no idea. Huh, all right, sorry, Adam didn't mean
- 24:58Speaker 4: to poor Salts on the but cool cool episode. Bro.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Yeah, hey, Adam, can you go ahead and x up
- 25:09Speaker 2: in the in the chat?
- 25:11Speaker 3: That's right, that's right, Yeah, come on the show, let's talk.
- 25:15Speaker 4: And Terry if you're out there too, you can just
- 25:17Speaker 4: go ahead.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Next up. Hey, we had a writer a few weeks
- 25:20Speaker 2: ago of one of the episodes we reviewed, say something, So.
- 25:26Speaker 3: That was pretty fun. So yeah, so, uh, this episode,
- 25:30Speaker 3: you guys want to recap it kind of what happened? Sure?
- 25:33Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, okay, I can do the intro like the
- 25:40Speaker 2: intro episode. So it's the very first scene is, uh,
- 25:44Speaker 2: We've got Riker and he's in sick bay and he's
- 25:48Speaker 2: got an injury on his on his head and doctor
- 25:52Speaker 2: Crusher's got a Bookay, he's got a boomboo. Doctor Crusher's
- 25:55Speaker 2: treating it and she's like, hey, you gotta be more
- 25:57Speaker 2: careful when you're playing parests squares. He's like, it wasn't that,
- 26:01Speaker 2: and she's like a Wharf's calistenic program. No, I was
- 26:06Speaker 2: feeding Spot. So apparently the Enterprise Captain card is okay
- 26:12Speaker 2: with having a vicious feline on the Enterprise menace that
- 26:18Speaker 2: cat yep, yep, smash cut to we're on the bridge,
- 26:22Speaker 2: there's a there's a distress call. It's from a romulant
- 26:26Speaker 2: war bird. Everybody's like, this seems a little suss.
- 26:32Speaker 4: I think that's the exact word that Wharf used. Yes,
- 26:36Speaker 4: this appears to be sus.
- 26:39Speaker 6: Well, you said this doesn't pass the vibe check, sir,
- 26:45Speaker 6: and Ensign Road turned around and said, no cat, the
- 26:53Speaker 6: Romulas were gonna say, hey, we're really under distress.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Like you, we should link up. So I did have
- 27:08Speaker 3: a question about very early on in this episode with
- 27:12Speaker 3: with feeding Spot, right.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I gave this some thought too, But but go ahead.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Let's see if we're on the same page here. We've
- 27:20Speaker 3: got replicators, we've got transporters, we've got a ship that
- 27:23Speaker 3: can do all sorts of timing.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Yes, just can't.
- 27:26Speaker 3: We can't auto feed the.
- 27:27Speaker 4: Cat exactly pretty sufficient.
- 27:31Speaker 2: I had to say, bowl of water, a big bowl
- 27:33Speaker 2: of food, and a really clean litter box. They go
- 27:36Speaker 2: for days.
- 27:37Speaker 4: You know, I know, I know this much about writing
- 27:41Speaker 4: computer code, and if I had access to a transport
- 27:46Speaker 4: and a replicator, I could probably write a program to Okay,
- 27:51Speaker 4: every morning at seven o'clock, beam the litter box into space, replicated, replicated,
- 27:59Speaker 4: new one. Right and right after that, beam the food
- 28:03Speaker 4: in the water into space, replicate a new one. That's
- 28:07Speaker 4: the whole thing.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it. That's the whole You don't even need
- 28:10Speaker 2: to know code because you can just interact with the computer.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Hey, computer's true, that's true.
- 28:14Speaker 2: What you can do that Now, if you want to
- 28:16Speaker 2: write like an app, you don't need no code. You
- 28:19Speaker 2: just go into hey, you know chat GBT, Hey, I
- 28:22Speaker 2: want to write a make an app.
- 28:25Speaker 4: But you know, that's what we that's one of the
- 28:28Speaker 4: things we get when we watch a thirty three year
- 28:30Speaker 4: old episode of science fiction. Because the other thing I
- 28:33Speaker 4: noticed when the first scene where Jordi pulls out the
- 28:37Speaker 4: try corder, I'm looking at that thing and I'm like,
- 28:40Speaker 4: that thing is huge. Yeah, that thing is huge, and
- 28:45Speaker 4: I'm thinking of myself, you know, in nineteen ninety two.
- 28:49Speaker 4: If I watched an episode of TOS and they pulled
- 28:52Speaker 4: out the try couarder, I probably said to myself, that
- 28:55Speaker 4: thing is huge. That thing is huge. You know, I
- 29:02Speaker 4: got this phone here that's tiny compared to the try quarter.
- 29:06Speaker 4: And and yeah, it can't do everything that at a
- 29:09Speaker 4: TG or a try quarter can do, but it can
- 29:11Speaker 4: do a lot, a lot, a lot of things that.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, yes, so yeah, I'm glad we run the
- 29:22Speaker 3: same page.
- 29:22Speaker 4: But we're on the same page feeding the cat. Yeah, okay, continue,
- 29:26Speaker 4: And you know I'm and I'm not a cat person,
- 29:29Speaker 4: so you know, I probably would have written it to
- 29:31Speaker 4: say it's seven ten beating the cat into space and
- 29:34Speaker 4: the boom problem solved.
- 29:38Speaker 2: So I'll do it quicker break. I'm not going to
- 29:40Speaker 2: spend forty explaining. So we smash got to a runabout. Okay,
- 29:45Speaker 2: it's the first time that a runabouts ever been seen
- 29:47Speaker 2: on TG. It's the only time runabouts ever been seen
- 29:50Speaker 2: on TG.
- 29:51Speaker 4: It's the only time you see the aft section.
- 29:54Speaker 2: That's that's right. We'll talk about that later. So we've
- 29:59Speaker 2: got counts, Troy Keptain, Piccard, Jeordie LaForge and data. They
- 30:03Speaker 2: just come back from a seminar somewhere. They're talking about it,
- 30:07Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden, time explodes and there's
- 30:11Speaker 2: an issue with them. They figure out that there's a
- 30:13Speaker 2: time something going on. They go to the enterprise. The
- 30:16Speaker 2: enterprise frozen in time, and so they board the enterprise.
- 30:21Speaker 2: They get some armbands. They board the enterprise. They're trying
- 30:24Speaker 2: to figure out what's going on. There's a power transfer.
- 30:26Speaker 2: They think. At first they think that the Enterprise is
- 30:29Speaker 2: under attacked by the Rodmuel war Bird.
- 30:30Speaker 4: It's not.
- 30:31Speaker 2: They figured out through some trial and error, they realize
- 30:34Speaker 2: that the tricorder emissions will sort of mess with the
- 30:37Speaker 2: time and they can go forward, they can go backwards.
- 30:40Speaker 2: They try to fix it, but there's a hang up.
- 30:43Speaker 2: There's the reason why it's doing what it's doing is
- 30:47Speaker 2: because an alien species has mistaken the Romulant Engine Corps,
- 30:53Speaker 2: which is an artificial wormhole for a natural wormhole, which
- 30:56Speaker 2: is how they incubate they're young. So Singularity, Singularity, I'm sorry,
- 31:01Speaker 2: you're right, yep, Okay, what did I sayole? Oh wormhole? Okay, yeah,
- 31:07Speaker 2: it's different, so different things. Can we get a.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Warning warning NERD alert NERD alert.
- 31:21Speaker 2: They use a quantum singularity as a power source, and
- 31:23Speaker 2: the alien's mistake it for a natural one, the.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Thing that apparently broke during the burn as well.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Apparently I was thinking about Yeah, I was thinking about
- 31:33Speaker 2: Discovery during this episode two. And of course Deanna knows
- 31:37Speaker 2: all this because a couple episodes back she spent several
- 31:40Speaker 2: days aboard around uland Warbird. Uh So, they figure out,
- 31:44Speaker 2: they get in position, they figure out, okay, we're gonna
- 31:46Speaker 2: use the tri quorder remotely, we're gonna reverse time. They're
- 31:51Speaker 2: in position, they're able to do all the things they
- 31:54Speaker 2: need to do, save Rikers, save doctor Crusher, but they're
- 31:59Speaker 2: not able to prevent the power transfer. And so Picard
- 32:03Speaker 2: takes control of the Runabout, puts it in between the
- 32:08Speaker 2: two ships, and it explodes and everybody goes home happy
- 32:15Speaker 2: the one and we can talk about this later if
- 32:18Speaker 2: we want to. But h So, the Romulin war Bird disappears,
- 32:22Speaker 2: and then in a captain's log he talks about taking
- 32:28Speaker 2: the Romulin survivors back to Romulus. Well, if the war
- 32:33Speaker 2: Bird disappeared, wouldn't everybody on the war Bird disappear to.
- 32:37Speaker 4: I think they were in the process of evacuating them
- 32:41Speaker 4: when time was frozen, and that process continued when time
- 32:44Speaker 4: was unfrozen. I mean there were obviously some losses.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Right, Why did the romulind war bird disappear?
- 32:51Speaker 4: Because the space babies are living in it? Oh?
- 32:55Speaker 3: I thought this was a joke. I thought we were
- 32:56Speaker 3: gonna go no the Romulin war.
- 33:02Speaker 4: Aren't you glad I didn't say banana?
- 33:10Speaker 2: All right, let's let's go back to the beginning the runabout.
- 33:14Speaker 2: It's the first time that a runabout, first and only
- 33:17Speaker 2: time a runabout is shown in h D because it's
- 33:21Speaker 2: been remastered. Yeah, and they also were talking. Dan was
- 33:27Speaker 2: talking about the aft section. So they they did that
- 33:32Speaker 2: as far as I could tell from reading you know,
- 33:35Speaker 2: Wikipedia and I m dB, because they were gonna they
- 33:39Speaker 2: wanted to TG wanted to build a set for Deep
- 33:41Speaker 2: Space nine because because Papa Bear had more money than
- 33:45Speaker 2: Baby Bear. So they say, hey, we're gonna build a
- 33:48Speaker 2: set where you can use it. And then they never
- 33:50Speaker 2: used that AFT section on Deep Space nine, so you're welcome.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Yeah, but all all of these sets are are reconfigured
- 33:58Speaker 4: and whatnot. So maybe maybe they didn't use it as
- 34:01Speaker 4: the AFT section of a runabout, but it was most
- 34:05Speaker 4: certainly the engine room on some alien ship, or it
- 34:09Speaker 4: was Tom and Bellana's quarters when they moved in together.
- 34:14Speaker 4: It was something something.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Also, why a runabout? Why were they out a runabout
- 34:18Speaker 2: in the first place. I never really got to the
- 34:20Speaker 2: bottom of that.
- 34:21Speaker 4: Because because a shuttle it would be too small to
- 34:24Speaker 4: have different pockets of space time occurring, you know.
- 34:29Speaker 2: The runabout or the investigation.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, the shuttle you know, you turn around three
- 34:35Speaker 4: hundred and sixty degrees, you see the whole thing, whereas
- 34:38Speaker 4: the runabout has different sections you could walk around the
- 34:42Speaker 4: inside of. It's a small starship.
- 34:44Speaker 2: I wonder if if you I'm deeper into that, like logistically,
- 34:49Speaker 2: did they leave in a tight whatever shuttle craft and
- 34:52Speaker 2: then they were like, oh, it's Captain of card We're
- 34:54Speaker 2: going to give you a runabout to go back. Or
- 34:57Speaker 2: did Starfleet send a runabout specifically to ferry these four
- 35:03Speaker 2: I don't know, you know, because the only other time
- 35:07Speaker 2: in Cannon that runabouts have been on the Enterprise was
- 35:10Speaker 2: when they delivered three of them to Yes.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Yes, So for all we know, there's been a run
- 35:17Speaker 4: about on the Enterprise d for six years at this point, right,
- 35:22Speaker 4: and they just never used it.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Wasn't there an episode where Jordie was building one, much
- 35:29Speaker 3: like they built the Delta Flyer. I'm getting. I'm getting.
- 35:36Speaker 2: I was gonna say, do better, Daniel.
- 35:39Speaker 3: That's right, that's right.
- 35:40Speaker 4: So sometimes I rewatch I rewatch these episodes and I
- 35:43Speaker 4: make little connections in my mind that maybe didn't occur
- 35:49Speaker 4: to the writers and I and I wish it had,
- 35:53Speaker 4: as it might have added something to the story. What
- 35:57Speaker 4: they're what they're doing when they transport over to that
- 36:01Speaker 4: romulent ship. They're looking at a moment frozen in time
- 36:08Speaker 4: and studying what they can see about it and trying
- 36:14Speaker 4: to determine what were these people doing at this time.
- 36:19Speaker 4: And basically what that is is archaeology, right, and Picard
- 36:25Speaker 4: is an archaeologist, and they make no mention of that.
- 36:30Speaker 4: I think it would just add It would have added
- 36:32Speaker 4: a little bit of depth, just one little throwaway line
- 36:35Speaker 4: of you know, well, in archaeology, we try to look
- 36:38Speaker 4: at this and postulate this, and like for instance, and
- 36:42Speaker 4: then you know, he points out why their initial assessment
- 36:46Speaker 4: of something might have been incorrect, but using his archaeological skills,
- 36:49Speaker 4: he made a different assessment.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Yeah, that would be a great idea, are you listening paramount.
- 36:58Speaker 4: I can do this. Now, do this with the new stuff.
- 37:01Speaker 4: I don't have to write them. Just let me read them,
- 37:04Speaker 4: and i'll and I'll be the consultant. I'll be the
- 37:06Speaker 4: guy with the red pen.
- 37:07Speaker 3: You can do the tactical consulting and that and the
- 37:10Speaker 3: logistic consulting. What what was the first tactical and logistics?
- 37:15Speaker 4: Oh? Yes, yes, yeah.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Yep, yeah, yeah, you're a tactical officer.
- 37:22Speaker 3: That's right, man. Uh. You know this episode, I had
- 37:30Speaker 3: not seen it in such a long time that I
- 37:32Speaker 3: really forgot most of it. Yeah, and a lot of
- 37:35Speaker 3: it was like watching it again for the first time.
- 37:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I forgot about the alien. Like I'm watching it,
- 37:39Speaker 4: I'm like, all right, I know there's some Romulans on
- 37:41Speaker 4: this ship that that are not really frozen, but I
- 37:44Speaker 4: can't remember why. And I think in my head, I
- 37:50Speaker 4: sometimes get this one confused a little bit with the
- 37:53Speaker 4: one where Jordi and Roe are out of face and
- 37:56Speaker 4: they're running. They're running, They're running around the ship. They
- 37:59Speaker 4: can't interact with anybody. They think they're dead, and then
- 38:02Speaker 4: at some point they discover there's also a Romulan on
- 38:04Speaker 4: the ship who's in the same predicament. I think I
- 38:07Speaker 4: get that confused with this one, because all right, they're
- 38:10Speaker 4: running around, everyone's frozen, and oh hey there's a couple
- 38:13Speaker 4: of romulins that aren't frozen but should be.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Yeah, very similar, very similar.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Interesting knit though, when Picard reaches for the bull of
- 38:25Speaker 2: fruit and then his hand, you know, gets in pain,
- 38:29Speaker 2: and then his fingernails have grown. They mentioned a couple
- 38:33Speaker 2: of different times. Fifty the time's going by it fifty
- 38:38Speaker 2: times the normal rate. Well, at fifty times a normal rate,
- 38:43Speaker 2: you could keep their hand in there for a day
- 38:46Speaker 2: or two and you wouldn't notice fingernail growth. You know,
- 38:51Speaker 2: fifty times five seconds is not enough to for his
- 38:56Speaker 2: fingernails to grow an inch, right, I think they should
- 39:01Speaker 2: have made it like, you know, five thousand times or
- 39:03Speaker 2: you know, fifty thousand times something like that.
- 39:08Speaker 3: I thought about that too. I'm like, well, why did
- 39:10Speaker 3: it Like it was just a second and the fruit
- 39:14Speaker 3: I don't know would have gone that bad that fast,
- 39:16Speaker 3: and I don't know.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Here's an interesting trivia from IMDb. At a convention appearance,
- 39:24Speaker 2: Marina Sertez noted that after getting a standard issue Space
- 39:28Speaker 2: uniform like the rest of the cast, she was also
- 39:31Speaker 2: suddenly allowed to show much more intelligence on the show.
- 39:35Speaker 4: For this episode, she.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Noted the absurdity of her knowing more about romulant technology
- 39:39Speaker 2: than shortier data.
- 39:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:43Speaker 4: I gotta say, though, she is so much more attractive
- 39:48Speaker 4: in a uniform than she ever was in those other
- 39:52Speaker 4: things they had her wear the onesies.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Yeah I agree, I agree.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Yeah. But did they say because she knew more because
- 40:02Speaker 3: she spent time on a ship on a remular ship.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, but not because she didn't spend any time
- 40:09Speaker 2: in like main engineering, right, I mean, yeah, she was,
- 40:13Speaker 2: you know, a member of the she are pretending to
- 40:15Speaker 2: be a member of the tell.
- 40:16Speaker 3: She are right? Fair enough?
- 40:20Speaker 2: Oh, the seats around the table on the runabout are
- 40:24Speaker 2: the same ones from Star Trek Voyager's conference lounge.
- 40:29Speaker 4: See this, this is what I'm talking about.
- 40:30Speaker 2: It probably is the conference lounge, right right?
- 40:32Speaker 3: I thought I recognized those chairs.
- 40:34Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, they reuse all this.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Stuff, oh for sure, for sure. So did you guys
- 40:43Speaker 3: enjoy the episode? Did you not?
- 40:45Speaker 2: Did you like?
- 40:46Speaker 4: Yeah? It was it was good fun, classic TNG era
- 40:50Speaker 4: self contained forty four minutes and it's done episode.
- 40:55Speaker 2: It's a great A lot of star treks in a lot.
- 40:58Speaker 4: Of Star Trek, it's very trinky.
- 41:01Speaker 3: According to Business Insider, this is one of the most
- 41:04Speaker 3: underrated episodes of Star Trek of all time.
- 41:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 41:08Speaker 3: I don't know about that, but I thought it was fine.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, good episode, fun episode. I enjoyed it even
- 41:16Speaker 2: after the thirty seventh watch.
- 41:19Speaker 4: Brent Spiner is a great actor. He's a great physical actor.
- 41:25Speaker 4: He put he puts so much into this character that
- 41:30Speaker 4: isn't just lines being delivered, it's it's you know, faces
- 41:34Speaker 4: he makes you know when when he's boiling the pot
- 41:42Speaker 4: at the end and he's he's shut off the his
- 41:45Speaker 4: internal chronometer and the pot starts to boil and he
- 41:47Speaker 4: looks at it like, you know, like something happened there.
- 41:52Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's true.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Hmm oh, I don't have question. I was gonna ask you. Yeah,
- 42:01Speaker 2: during the scene where Picard starts to lose it because
- 42:05Speaker 2: he's going through temporal narcosis, the smiley face in the
- 42:10Speaker 2: midst of the warp Coore explosion. On IMDb, it says
- 42:15Speaker 2: it's a knit because he couldn't have made that smiley
- 42:19Speaker 2: face in that that whatever that is, because it would
- 42:23Speaker 2: have burned his finger. When I up until yesterday I
- 42:27Speaker 2: always assumed that that smiley face was not made by him,
- 42:30Speaker 2: but it was just a figment of his imagination. What
- 42:33Speaker 2: are your guys take on that?
- 42:36Speaker 3: Oh, I thought he made Did he make that with.
- 42:38Speaker 2: His finger or was that something he imagined in his head?
- 42:42Speaker 4: I think he made it with his finger. It probably
- 42:46Speaker 4: caused him excruciating pain, similar to the the issue with
- 42:51Speaker 4: the fruit, except that he was already coca for Coca
- 42:56Speaker 4: puffs at the time, so he didn't react to it
- 42:59Speaker 4: in the same way.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Interesting, Daniel, Yeah.
- 43:04Speaker 3: I agree with Dan. I think that's what happened there.
- 43:07Speaker 4: I feel like, I feel like if it wasn't actually there,
- 43:11Speaker 4: if it was a figment of his imagination, the proper
- 43:14Speaker 4: storytelling would have been for someone to mention it. We
- 43:21Speaker 4: don't see it, Captain, Yeah, you know what, what are
- 43:23Speaker 4: you laughing at? And a lack of that would would
- 43:27Speaker 4: make it unclear, So it had to have existed.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Interesting, Okay. I grew up, And I say grew up
- 43:33Speaker 2: because I you know, I watched this when I was
- 43:34Speaker 2: a kid. Basically I always assumed that that was just
- 43:38Speaker 2: a figment of his imagination.
- 43:40Speaker 4: No, no, because then then it would be you know,
- 43:43Speaker 4: him pointing at it laughing at it, and then a
- 43:46Speaker 4: slightly different shot of him laughing at nothing, and and
- 43:51Speaker 4: uh yeah, Troy and LaForge looking at each other.
- 43:55Speaker 3: What is going on?
- 43:56Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 43:58Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, well, after thirty thirty three years, I have
- 44:03Speaker 2: a different perspective. Now that's great.
- 44:05Speaker 3: I'm glad we pixed that for you.
- 44:07Speaker 4: Yeah, there you go.
- 44:08Speaker 2: I've been wrong all this time.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Yeah, he's gonna be able to sleep tonight, right.
- 44:13Speaker 3: Right, that's funny. Yeah, hmm. Well, let's see what other
- 44:23Speaker 3: Oh this Apparently this episode was released on laser disc
- 44:27Speaker 3: back in nineteen ninety eight. Nice, yeah, yeah, this is
- 44:33Speaker 3: part of a two episode laser disc, this and The
- 44:36Speaker 3: Descent Part one. Apparently you can get those two together.
- 44:42Speaker 4: Well, what about Descend Part two?
- 44:44Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, that's another laser disc apparently, I don't know.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Jeez. Yeah, Well, Time Escaping Descent Part run. We're you know,
- 44:55Speaker 2: episode twenty five and twenty six. Remember those good old
- 44:58Speaker 2: days when we had twenty six episodes a season?
- 45:02Speaker 3: Oh yeah, oh yeah yeah, and now we get six
- 45:07Speaker 3: or eight.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Long ago, but not so very.
- 45:14Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, it's just funny. How different? Okay, so
- 45:21Speaker 4: twenty six episodes if they showed one every week. That's
- 45:28Speaker 4: twenty six weeks. That's not counting, like, Okay, they're not
- 45:31Speaker 4: going to show one this week because it falls on
- 45:33Speaker 4: a holiday, or we're gonna do it. You know. Sometimes
- 45:36Speaker 4: they would do a couple reruns while they were still
- 45:38Speaker 4: in first run. Yeah, that's enough. I mean that's half
- 45:43Speaker 4: a year. There's fifty two weeks in a year. That's
- 45:46Speaker 4: long enough that you can do a course correction mid season.
- 45:52Speaker 4: The first episode of the season is airing, and they're
- 45:55Speaker 4: still filming later episodes in that same season. That's how
- 46:00Speaker 4: much stuff has changed. Now. They filmed the ten episodes,
- 46:04Speaker 4: the ten episodes go to post, the ten episodes are
- 46:07Speaker 4: ready to be released, and they're released, and that's it.
- 46:11Speaker 4: You're a third of the way through and it sucks. Well,
- 46:14Speaker 4: you got two thirds left that are something gonna suck
- 46:18Speaker 4: with it.
- 46:18Speaker 2: So yeah, it's changed a season from September all the
- 46:24Speaker 2: way to May. Yeah, you know.
- 46:30Speaker 3: That's I mean nowadays with with modern streaming shows, to
- 46:33Speaker 3: like they right all the episodes, they don't wait for feedback,
- 46:38Speaker 3: so you cannot course correct.
- 46:40Speaker 4: So yeah, you know in the past, when you when
- 46:43Speaker 4: you had seasons that long, you have a guest star
- 46:45Speaker 4: in the third episode, and it's really popular. Yeah, it's like, well,
- 46:51Speaker 4: well ship, let's bring that guy back. Let's just bring
- 46:54Speaker 4: him back for that. There's enough time. He's in the
- 46:56Speaker 4: third episode. We're gonna bring him back for the for
- 46:58Speaker 4: the fourteenth episode, right yep. And then that was popular too.
- 47:02Speaker 4: Guess what he's going to be in the season finale
- 47:04Speaker 4: and he's going to be a regular next season.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Yep. You you don't have those options anymore. That's the
- 47:11Speaker 3: hard You can't.
- 47:12Speaker 4: You can't do that anymore. And even if you tried
- 47:15Speaker 4: to do something like that, by the time the next
- 47:18Speaker 4: season rolls around, that guy's doing something else. He's locked
- 47:21Speaker 4: down into something else.
- 47:24Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yep, good old us. Yeah, it would be
- 47:33Speaker 3: nice to have audience feedback and apply that, but yeah.
- 47:36Speaker 4: Real time. It's it's crazy that here we are in
- 47:39Speaker 4: the twenty first century. Everyone has everyone carries a communication
- 47:43Speaker 4: device in their pocket connected to the wealth of the
- 47:47Speaker 4: totality of human knowledge. But you can't have real time
- 47:50Speaker 4: feedback because we do it different.
- 47:52Speaker 3: Now, right mm hmm yep, yep.
- 47:57Speaker 4: Oh, well all right, timescale, I give it thumbs.
- 48:03Speaker 3: Up, Yeah, absolutely, Yeah, So I asked.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Them, I think the background actors did a good job
- 48:12Speaker 2: with with the frozen in time thing. There was very little,
- 48:16Speaker 2: you know. I looked on IMDb. They nitpicked up a
- 48:20Speaker 2: couple of times, but.
- 48:23Speaker 4: That was throught.
- 48:24Speaker 2: They did an excellent job.
- 48:24Speaker 3: That's right, that's right. Well I asked him chat if
- 48:29Speaker 3: anyone wanted to chat with us. Nobody did so I
- 48:32Speaker 3: guess there's no listener feedback. Oh now Jasmins does all right,
- 48:40Speaker 3: well Jazziz, that's right. Okay, well, let's go to listener
- 48:44Speaker 3: feedback real quick.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Then listener feedback.
- 48:52Speaker 3: All right, before we get to jaz Biz. We are
- 48:55Speaker 3: on all the social media is everywhere, Trent cast, TG, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter,
- 49:02Speaker 3: x whatever, TikTok, Instagram, and of course you can always
- 49:08Speaker 3: leave us a voicemail five seven zero six six one
- 49:11Speaker 3: zero zero zero one. That's five seven zero six six
- 49:15Speaker 3: one zero zero zero one. Would love to get your
- 49:18Speaker 3: voicemails and play them on the show. So, yeah, it
- 49:22Speaker 3: looks like Chasbiz is getting ready. So Dan is still frozen.
- 49:27Speaker 4: Yeah that's exhausting.
- 49:28Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, for a minute that I'm like, wait, did
- 49:32Speaker 3: it go bad? That's right? All right, Well, let's bring
- 49:41Speaker 3: out Jazbiz. There is here. He is he's frozen again.
- 49:46Speaker 2: You know, Dan, if you were really good, you would
- 49:47Speaker 2: have frozen and done that ventriloquist thing where we thought
- 49:50Speaker 2: that your audio was still good. Yeah.
- 49:54Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know how I got it.
- 49:56Speaker 2: Yeah, you been like and still talk a little. You know.
- 50:02Speaker 2: How's there anything going? Chazz is, oh, look, yeah, yeah
- 50:10Speaker 2: to watch the episode, Yes, yes, I did.
- 50:13Speaker 3: What do you think I liked it?
- 50:15Speaker 7: You know, it's one of those things comes on and
- 50:19Speaker 7: you're like, oh my gosh, it's a real episode.
- 50:25Speaker 3: That's right, and.
- 50:26Speaker 2: It's a real episode.
- 50:27Speaker 3: It's real.
- 50:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 50:30Speaker 3: My note was that.
- 50:33Speaker 7: Episode twenty five, So yeah, yeah, episode twenty five. It's
- 50:40Speaker 7: what season six, And I don't know, it's just what's
- 50:44Speaker 7: the credits rolled and everything? And I was like, man,
- 50:48Speaker 7: I ended up watching the part of the second episode.
- 50:51Speaker 3: So oh nice nice.
- 50:53Speaker 7: Yeah yeah, And then I looked at the time. It
- 50:57Speaker 7: was like two thirty in the morning.
- 50:58Speaker 3: I'm oh, I go to bed man and I felt
- 51:01Speaker 3: so old because after it was over, I'm like, man,
- 51:03Speaker 3: they don't make him like they used to.
- 51:05Speaker 4: Yeah, right, well, I mean back in mind Star Trek
- 51:11Speaker 4: was episodic.
- 51:13Speaker 3: That's right, that's right.
- 51:14Speaker 7: It's like you tell they you know, had other writers
- 51:18Speaker 7: write the technobabble and yeah to make it make sense. Yeah,
- 51:23Speaker 7: and you know, and I'm thinking, how how would this
- 51:27Speaker 7: be filmed today? You'd have like flashing lights, the camera
- 51:30Speaker 7: be spinning, you know, you'd have all the yeah lens flares,
- 51:37Speaker 7: and it'd just be too much.
- 51:40Speaker 4: Yeah, unless unless it was an episode of The Orville,
- 51:42Speaker 4: then it would be just like this.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Yes.
- 51:45Speaker 7: Yes, it's like if you want a showrunner or star trek,
- 51:48Speaker 7: you hire him because.
- 51:49Speaker 3: He yeah, yeah, he would be good.
- 51:53Speaker 2: That's a good metric.
- 51:54Speaker 1: Dan.
- 51:54Speaker 2: Would this have worked as an episode of The Orville?
- 51:58Speaker 4: Absolutely?
- 51:59Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely, and it would have yeah.
- 52:02Speaker 3: Yeah, although we would have caught the frozen in much
- 52:06Speaker 3: crazier situation.
- 52:08Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, Malloy with no pants on?
- 52:13Speaker 7: Yeah right yeah yeah yeah, somebody opened the door, like,
- 52:19Speaker 7: oh god, closing the door.
- 52:21Speaker 3: No, we're fine, they're fine, leave alone.
- 52:25Speaker 7: We caught Ricker again.
- 52:26Speaker 2: So yeah, who needs None of the episodes, none of
- 52:32Speaker 2: the episodes of Academy could have been done as an
- 52:38Speaker 2: episode of The Orville. Right, It wouldn't have worked, right,
- 52:42Speaker 2: So I think I think Dan's onto something that's a
- 52:44Speaker 2: new metric. Could this been an episode of the Orville?
- 52:49Speaker 3: That's a crazy metric, but it's so true.
- 52:52Speaker 4: It's true, which apparent. Apparently all the all the scripts
- 52:57Speaker 4: for I Saw a Thing, all the scripts for season
- 52:59Speaker 4: four of The Orville are all written. They're all they're
- 53:01Speaker 4: all done.
- 53:03Speaker 3: It's just whether or not they can get to it
- 53:05Speaker 3: that mcmarlin has time the whole cast.
- 53:07Speaker 2: Well, mister McFarlane, you have our support absolutely. Yeah, if
- 53:13Speaker 2: you'd like to ax up in the chat, we'd like
- 53:15Speaker 2: to hear from you.
- 53:16Speaker 3: Yeah, we'd love to talk to them.
- 53:17Speaker 4: Yeah, but you but you have to be uh yes,
- 53:22Speaker 4: thank you. Yeah, duty what the deuce?
- 53:33Speaker 2: Oh man, oh boy?
- 53:35Speaker 7: Oh right, Lower Decks would probably get this episode.
- 53:39Speaker 3: Right, lowerd As would do a funny version of this.
- 53:42Speaker 7: Yeah, oh yeah, probably would have you know, and of
- 53:47Speaker 7: course that would have mentioned everything.
- 53:48Speaker 4: Yeah there's references.
- 53:50Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, that was actually Lower Decks metric. Yep.
- 53:57Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a good metros.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Yeah yeah.
- 54:02Speaker 7: And when does the Strange New Worlds come back?
- 54:05Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it's in July.
- 54:08Speaker 7: Oh wow, So we that's been up saying did they
- 54:12Speaker 7: have a season last season or last year or was
- 54:14Speaker 7: it the year before?
- 54:19Speaker 2: I don't I gets so confused.
- 54:22Speaker 4: Now yeah.
- 54:25Speaker 3: It comes back. Okay, so yeah, that means our prediction
- 54:31Speaker 3: episode is going to be right around the corner.
- 54:33Speaker 4: Oh man, Yeah, all right.
- 54:37Speaker 7: I got another question for you guys. How big was
- 54:39Speaker 7: this runabout?
- 54:42Speaker 3: Fairly large? I mean I think ride runabouts.
- 54:46Speaker 7: Yeah, do you see how big the dining room was
- 54:47Speaker 7: have like fourteen ceilings.
- 54:49Speaker 4: So I don't think it's any bigger than any other runabout.
- 54:54Speaker 4: I think they're all the same size. It's just we've
- 54:56Speaker 4: never seen the back part. A run about run about
- 55:02Speaker 4: is not a shuttle run about is a small starship, right,
- 55:05Speaker 4: that's the way they've been described.
- 55:08Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, up in the cells and everything. And the
- 55:14Speaker 7: funny thing is, you know about the running Well, when
- 55:17Speaker 7: you see him in the shuttle, right and they're traveling,
- 55:20Speaker 7: they're just sitting there, like staring at the screen light.
- 55:23Speaker 7: Nobody's like playing with something.
- 55:24Speaker 4: You know.
- 55:25Speaker 2: It looks so boring.
- 55:26Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like a mini man.
- 55:29Speaker 2: I think that's one of the reasons I made the
- 55:31Speaker 2: Delta Flyers, because it's not just a big box the room.
- 55:36Speaker 2: You know, there's there's stations you can go to and
- 55:39Speaker 2: and you can sit in a pilot seat, and it's
- 55:42Speaker 2: not just one big, you know room like I mean,
- 55:45Speaker 2: the the Type six shuttle craft. It's like my office.
- 55:50Speaker 2: It's just a big room. There's no there's no bathroom,
- 55:53Speaker 2: there's no place where you can crawl into for you know, Jeffery's.
- 55:56Speaker 4: Two Jesus.
- 56:06Speaker 3: Repeating. Then you send it out to the space.
- 56:09Speaker 4: I mean you had to go somewhere.
- 56:11Speaker 7: Yeah, Like did they always show him like you're traveling
- 56:13Speaker 7: like to the you know, next Solar system. You're like, Okay,
- 56:17Speaker 7: this definitely has to take some time, so somebody's got
- 56:21Speaker 7: to go.
- 56:23Speaker 2: I just thought you'd take flector shields otherwise hitting who
- 56:28Speaker 2: at warp nine destroyed his ship? Like, what the hell
- 56:35Speaker 2: was that?
- 56:36Speaker 4: Captain? I'm picking up some organic matter? Wait never never mind.
- 56:41Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, a piece of corn.
- 56:49Speaker 3: It's getting gross.
- 56:50Speaker 4: Yeah, it's getting gross in here. Yeah. Yeah, we're at
- 56:55Speaker 4: about eleven o'clock. Yeah, I think we're about I'm about
- 56:59Speaker 4: to call this. Yeah, stop, I'm gonna stop. And hey
- 57:02Speaker 4: is that corn? Yeah, it's my exit point.
- 57:08Speaker 7: Like the modern shuttles, there's like it's just an open void.
- 57:12Speaker 7: There's like nothing in there, you know, like even on
- 57:14Speaker 7: Academy when they traveled with the doctor, you know, because
- 57:21Speaker 7: they had the Hologram girls. They're going to the hologram
- 57:23Speaker 7: girls Planet I forget her name on Academy and they're
- 57:27Speaker 7: in the shuttle craft and there's like just nothing in there.
- 57:29Speaker 7: There's just like three seats and they're just sitting there.
- 57:32Speaker 4: You know.
- 57:33Speaker 3: You know, if they're gonna make long range shuttles like
- 57:35Speaker 3: that or runabouts, you could in theory, because you already
- 57:40Speaker 3: have the ability to make holograms, right, can't you make
- 57:43Speaker 3: like a hologram that sits there and like just keeps
- 57:45Speaker 3: you company and you can talk to it and yeah,
- 57:48Speaker 3: you know, have a little chat.
- 57:50Speaker 2: Sure, Yeah, yeah, there's an app for that, Daniel.
- 57:54Speaker 3: That's right, that's right. There's also apps.
- 57:57Speaker 2: I think you have to pay, like you know fourteen
- 57:59Speaker 2: ninety nine of mine.
- 58:00Speaker 3: Oh no, that kind of app Oh no, it is
- 58:05Speaker 3: not what I want at all.
- 58:07Speaker 2: Oh but I forgot to send the link to this
- 58:10Speaker 2: episode to my mom this morning. Okay, all right, well,
- 58:18Speaker 2: well before we get off, I do want to say
- 58:20Speaker 2: one one more thing. When we were eating pizza in Detroit,
- 58:24Speaker 2: it was brought up that we've had we've had pizza
- 58:27Speaker 2: in Chicago, We've had pizza Detroit. Detroit was really good,
- 58:31Speaker 2: and my wife and I kind of talked about the
- 58:34Speaker 2: next time we would do this, we should try some
- 58:37Speaker 2: New York pizza there you go. We thought maybe, uh,
- 58:41Speaker 2: maybe New York trip is in our future. So he's
- 58:46Speaker 2: going to like, you know, that's right, that's right. Yeah.

- 59:46Speaker 4: spend a night up there, and then yeah, and then
- 59:50Speaker 4: come back or leave from up there or something.
- 59:54Speaker 2: But well, we could make it a you know, a
- 59:56Speaker 2: two section trip. You know, we can start out or
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: and go to Taekwonderoga and then we could or we
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: could start there and you know, and then uh, but
