- 0:02Speaker 1: Radio radio Radio Commies, a Myth and Bullshit radio phonic
- 0:17Speaker 1: novella Local Radio hosted by Malamo. Allow allow welcome back
- 0:23Speaker 1: to look at our radio. Welcome back, Welcome back to
- 0:27Speaker 1: Brown Girl Our this is Diosa and this is my land.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We are Last Local, Yes, we are last Mammies of
- 0:33Speaker 1: myth and Bullshit. Local Radio is a podcast archiving the brilliance,
- 0:38Speaker 1: geniuses and legacies of women and fans of color. Yes
- 0:43Speaker 1: we are, Yes we are, Yes we are, and this
- 0:46Speaker 1: is Capital Sinko. Yes, we just keep rolling along. I
- 0:50Speaker 1: am so excited, and I mean this is a significant
- 0:53Speaker 1: episode because you know, we just recently celebrated our twenty
- 0:57Speaker 1: four episode, meaning we celebrated our one year anniversary. Yes,
- 1:02Speaker 1: it has been an amazing, amazing few weeks since we
- 1:05Speaker 1: last recorded, since we last recorded with La Loba, which
- 1:08Speaker 1: was amazing, um, and since then, we have had so
- 1:12Speaker 1: many things happened that we would just want to update
- 1:13Speaker 1: y'all on. We've been really busy. We've been so busy
- 1:16Speaker 1: trying to catch our breath. Um, but we're so blessed,
- 1:19Speaker 1: so excited. So first things first, we had the release
- 1:23Speaker 1: of our we are Meet through a video. Oh my God.
- 1:28Speaker 1: First of all, it was really difficult for us to
- 1:30Speaker 1: sit on this information and not leak the secret that
- 1:34Speaker 1: we had this video, especially for my lack, because it's
- 1:38Speaker 1: hard for me to keep a secret and I forget
- 1:40Speaker 1: what things are secret and what things I'm not supposed
- 1:43Speaker 1: to talk abounstantly have to remind her like, Mala, please
- 1:46Speaker 1: do not share this. It's a secret secret. Um. But
- 1:50Speaker 1: you know, we actually filmed this back in April and
- 1:52Speaker 1: my hair was still purple, so it was it's been
- 1:55Speaker 1: a while. We've been through a couple of changes since then.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I agree. Changes Actually if you change it is partner
- 2:01Speaker 1: changes changes, all kinds of ship, mood changes, all of
- 2:06Speaker 1: that attitude changes exactly. Um, so super super excited that
- 2:11Speaker 1: we finally got to share that with all y'all. And
- 2:13Speaker 1: of course shout out to Jasmine Dematos from where me
- 2:15Speaker 1: through for approaching us, for creating something so beautiful with us,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and then for the for the camera person, the videographer
- 2:22Speaker 1: Ernie Ernie, Yeah yeah, shout out to him as well.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Thank you to that little team, and then of course
- 2:28Speaker 1: to a spassion maybe that for allowing us to film there,
- 2:31Speaker 1: to film to record as always like this is really
- 2:34Speaker 1: our podcast look at our Radio is really a community effort.
- 2:38Speaker 1: We've had so many people help us and just all
- 2:41Speaker 1: like just people like who are friends, who do community
- 2:46Speaker 1: work just like and who really like are not asking
- 2:49Speaker 1: or expecting for anything in return, but we have like
- 2:51Speaker 1: our undying gratitude and you know, like we try and
- 2:55Speaker 1: and make sure that we're developing these relationships in our communities.
- 2:58Speaker 1: And that's the only reason why we're to do what
- 3:00Speaker 1: we do. Absolutely um And you know, I was super nervous.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I was sharing with Mama. I was super nervous a
- 3:06Speaker 1: few days prior to the meet Through video to be
- 3:11Speaker 1: released because I was worried about the comments section comment section.
- 3:15Speaker 1: First of all, meet Through like they create some you
- 3:19Speaker 1: can see that they're really trying to create work for
- 3:21Speaker 1: marginalized communities within the latin X community, within the Latino community.
- 3:25Speaker 1: But any time there's anything that says latin X anything,
- 3:29Speaker 1: there's something gender unconforming, trans queer, fem or just about
- 3:34Speaker 1: women in general, social justice, social justice. See the men
- 3:37Speaker 1: in the comments and someone the women as well, but
- 3:40Speaker 1: more so the men. The comments are awful. They can't
- 3:43Speaker 1: handle it. They cannot handle don't like it. They talk
- 3:46Speaker 1: a bunch of ship. They say they're gonna unfollow me
- 3:48Speaker 1: through that please do right and just you know, unfortunately,
- 3:52Speaker 1: the common section is like sometimes will remind you where
- 3:55Speaker 1: people are, you know what I mean. Yeah, I was
- 3:58Speaker 1: having a conversation with there are two Jasmines at me
- 4:01Speaker 1: food right, there's Jasmine Antive else who did our video
- 4:04Speaker 1: podcast video, and there's another filmmaker, Jasmine Garcia, and um,
- 4:09Speaker 1: she was telling me that, you know, but that's part
- 4:11Speaker 1: of the work, is like, you know, we want to
- 4:13Speaker 1: be reaching those people who do have those stereotypes and
- 4:19Speaker 1: that hate, because that's where the educating needs to happen.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Absolutely no, um, but I think for the most part,
- 4:24Speaker 1: our video, at least in the comment sections, was well received.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Oh yeah, people A lot of a lot of it
- 4:30Speaker 1: was like mohit is tagging their home girls, which I
- 4:33Speaker 1: I thought was really cute. And there were a few
- 4:35Speaker 1: like comments from men that were super and there were
- 4:39Speaker 1: there weren't too many. One of them. One of them
- 4:43Speaker 1: he said that, um, and this one was great because
- 4:45Speaker 1: first of all, keep in mind who we are, where
- 4:48Speaker 1: these two like young women were in our twenties. We
- 4:52Speaker 1: have our little podcast, we have our little Instagram, like
- 4:55Speaker 1: we're having fun. This dude who left a comment is
- 4:58Speaker 1: like this latino who's like in his he's middle aged,
- 5:01Speaker 1: he's like in his fifties, like studied art. I mean,
- 5:03Speaker 1: you know, I had to do my research. He was
- 5:05Speaker 1: talking ship, so I needed to know behind the ship talking.
- 5:08Speaker 1: You know, you need your ammunition. And so he says, although,
- 5:11Speaker 1: let you know man whose studies are. And his comment
- 5:13Speaker 1: was that we were promoting like frivolity and that we
- 5:17Speaker 1: were banal and that we were just like, um, what
- 5:21Speaker 1: else did he say, keep officiality, that we were promoting
- 5:24Speaker 1: to out officialism, superficialism. Yeah, I just pulled up the comment.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Oh yeah, pull up the common girl. Let's read. Let's
- 5:30Speaker 1: read the comment. Well, the comment was just promoting superficialism
- 5:34Speaker 1: and binality. First of all, sir, you are not our
- 5:38Speaker 1: intended audience in any way, shape or form. In fact,
- 5:41Speaker 1: we're very explicit in that we don't give a ship
- 5:44Speaker 1: if you listen or you don't. We really it's not
- 5:46Speaker 1: about your Secondly, superficialism is not a word, professor. Let
- 5:52Speaker 1: let's talk about being superficial, you know, let's talk about vocabulary.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And third, like, you don't have any more important things
- 5:59Speaker 1: to do. This is true, do you know what I mean?
- 6:02Speaker 1: So that was funny. Shout out to you, sir. And
- 6:05Speaker 1: also like there weren't like even though we're very firm presenting,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and like we do wear makeup and in the video
- 6:13Speaker 1: we're getting ready to meet up, Like nowhere in the
- 6:17Speaker 1: video do we talk about makeup when we're all discussing
- 6:21Speaker 1: the podcast. Yes, So it was just really confusing. You know,
- 6:26Speaker 1: apparently you can't be smart and also wear makeup, which
- 6:30Speaker 1: is we know that that is a thing that people say.
- 6:32Speaker 1: That is the thing that people say. It's like, can
- 6:34Speaker 1: I not get ready for my day? In fact about
- 6:36Speaker 1: being insulted? It was annoying, but for the most part
- 6:40Speaker 1: it was well received. So we're super thankful, super happy.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Thank you to everyone that shared it. Yes, thank you,
- 6:46Speaker 1: thank you for showing our video love and we love it.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I think it's a good representation of us. I agree.
- 6:52Speaker 1: And then then we did a twenty four hour turn
- 6:57Speaker 1: around two Noma. We had a busy wheat. We had
- 7:01Speaker 1: a really really busy meat lord about us. Let us discuss.
- 7:05Speaker 1: So we went up to Senama State. We drove up
- 7:08Speaker 1: and back basically like in the same day, and um,
- 7:12Speaker 1: it was really fun. We picked up queer Chicano cheese
- 7:15Speaker 1: me on the way and we almost gave him a
- 7:16Speaker 1: heart attack and a panic attacks. Though, I'm like so
- 7:20Speaker 1: sorry that we stressed you out. I know, we were
- 7:22Speaker 1: running late and fucking mama Homegirl here we were like
- 7:27Speaker 1: in traffic and we were all stressed and she a
- 7:30Speaker 1: lot in. Our event was at five o'clock and she
- 7:32Speaker 1: was like, why is anyone so stressed out? It's at
- 7:34Speaker 1: six and we were like, bitch, it starts at five.
- 7:38Speaker 1: So Homegirl didn't even know the timeline that was. But
- 7:42Speaker 1: we got there out there. We got there a little
- 7:43Speaker 1: bit late on brownco hour per usual on look a time.
- 7:46Speaker 1: But the students were so cute. Students were great, and
- 7:49Speaker 1: they were you know, they were just excited to see us,
- 7:52Speaker 1: and they were very engaged and had lots of questions
- 7:57Speaker 1: and they waited for us, which we all appreciate, aciate
- 8:01Speaker 1: when you'll wait. Thank you to no mistake for waiting
- 8:04Speaker 1: for us. Yes, and thank you to the organizers that
- 8:06Speaker 1: brought us out and the organizers that brought us out.
- 8:10Speaker 1: We're Latin, yes, who have their own group Max. It's
- 8:15Speaker 1: like motion and something else something. I know that Max
- 8:22Speaker 1: is like a big deal, So I'm sorry that we
- 8:25Speaker 1: app him, but thank you lapping us. Yeah, so that
- 8:29Speaker 1: was some of a state mistake. A couple of days later,
- 8:32Speaker 1: a couple of days later, we had our one year anniversary,
- 8:36Speaker 1: our local adversary in collaboration with La Junta. It was
- 8:40Speaker 1: so fun, It was so much fun, so fun. First
- 8:43Speaker 1: of all, there was a line to get in, which
- 8:46Speaker 1: we were not anticipating. We honestly we were like, we
- 8:50Speaker 1: had no idea what to expect for the party. We
- 8:52Speaker 1: were like, we know that we have like local motives
- 8:55Speaker 1: are going to come through for us. So I really
- 8:57Speaker 1: had no idea how many people were going to show up,
- 8:59Speaker 1: who was going to show up anything. We just like
- 9:02Speaker 1: put out the best intentions and we're like I would
- 9:05Speaker 1: and it worked, and it worked. There was a line
- 9:07Speaker 1: to get in. It was so packed, and it was
- 9:09Speaker 1: so funny because Mama was like, how do we know
- 9:11Speaker 1: who are local motives are? And I was like, I
- 9:14Speaker 1: was like all the girls with the bombas makeup and
- 9:17Speaker 1: the cute outfits. Also we know all the finance fems,
- 9:21Speaker 1: everybody who showed up looking fine at hell and cute.
- 9:25Speaker 1: We knew right away. Somebody walked in and we were like, listener,
- 9:29Speaker 1: we know more, that is a listener. We knew and
- 9:32Speaker 1: um we mane I were talking about. There was so
- 9:34Speaker 1: cute that hitters were there. Some of y'all were there
- 9:38Speaker 1: with your partners, with your boyfriend. My god, and these
- 9:42Speaker 1: men that you all were with your partners, your booze
- 9:44Speaker 1: were like taking your photos so into it, or like
- 9:49Speaker 1: telling telling us how much they their girlfriend their partner
- 9:52Speaker 1: likes the podcast and how they talked to them about it.
- 9:55Speaker 1: There several different couples. Well, first of all, it was
- 9:58Speaker 1: so funny because there was this one cap Well who
- 10:00Speaker 1: they were clearly older than us. They were married, and
- 10:03Speaker 1: me and Ba were standing there together next to our
- 10:06Speaker 1: little merch table. We were selling our hats and our
- 10:08Speaker 1: stickers and everything. And then the head comes up to
- 10:11Speaker 1: us and she was like, can my husband get a
- 10:13Speaker 1: picture with you guys? My husband loves you, he loves
- 10:16Speaker 1: the podcast. Who was so cute and then he was like, yeah,
- 10:18Speaker 1: my favorite, I love it. I love it, Oh my god.
- 10:25Speaker 1: And then we were I was walking past the bar
- 10:27Speaker 1: and some guy basically like tapped me on my shoulder
- 10:30Speaker 1: and he was like, my girlfriend is too shy to
- 10:32Speaker 1: ask for a picture, but she loves you guys, she
- 10:34Speaker 1: loves the podcast. Can I get a picture? That happened
- 10:37Speaker 1: with a couple of different dudes with their girlfriend. It
- 10:40Speaker 1: was so cute and then just like long long time
- 10:43Speaker 1: listeners that have like engaged with us, And it was
- 10:45Speaker 1: so funny because someone looks familiar and she introduced me,
- 10:49Speaker 1: introduced herself to me with her name, and I was like,
- 10:51Speaker 1: hold on, what's your ID? Hands exactly with your hand
- 10:54Speaker 1: and then I was like, yes, girl, I know exactly
- 10:55Speaker 1: who you are. So it was just super cute. It
- 10:58Speaker 1: was fun. And we had people who came in from
- 11:00Speaker 1: out of town. Yes, I want to thank Mona coming
- 11:04Speaker 1: in from up North sp for coming in from I
- 11:09Speaker 1: think Davis. Yeah, yeah, there were there were people who
- 11:14Speaker 1: were here from Washington State shout out. There were all
- 11:18Speaker 1: kinds of people and we were a capacity capacity. You know.
- 11:23Speaker 1: It was just really fun. Everybody danced, some of our listeners.
- 11:26Speaker 1: It was really cute seeing the little connections being made
- 11:29Speaker 1: amongst the lookal it as I saw too by locomotives
- 11:32Speaker 1: dancing together. There were some love connections that it was
- 11:36Speaker 1: just such a queer from POC event. It was so amazing,
- 11:42Speaker 1: but there was some drama at the beginning. There was
- 11:44Speaker 1: some drama in the beginning, a little bit of drama.
- 11:46Speaker 1: So if y'all were there, well, even if you weren't there,
- 11:49Speaker 1: there was like a little room that was meant for
- 11:51Speaker 1: just our local what is so that y'all could sit down,
- 11:54Speaker 1: have your own tables, and we could also have our
- 11:56Speaker 1: merge so that y'all could like have a little space
- 11:58Speaker 1: away from the dance floor weekend there and the owner
- 12:02Speaker 1: is like or whomever, the manager is like, oh no,
- 12:07Speaker 1: that was reserved for another group. So our friends and
- 12:11Speaker 1: La Junta were very upset and we're like, we had
- 12:13Speaker 1: booked this months ago because just so y'all know, we
- 12:15Speaker 1: have been planning this since July, so this has been
- 12:19Speaker 1: this party has been in the works for months. So
- 12:21Speaker 1: everything was like both basically and then they were like, oh, well,
- 12:25Speaker 1: their lawyers and they're coming in from La Junta was like,
- 12:30Speaker 1: you'll have no idea how many people are coming out, Like,
- 12:33Speaker 1: you do not want to be doing this right now.
- 12:35Speaker 1: They underestimated us, They really underestimated us, because it turns
- 12:38Speaker 1: out they told La Junta that they were not prepared
- 12:42Speaker 1: for the amount of people that were going to be there.
- 12:44Speaker 1: The bartenders had their ass handed today. They ran out
- 12:48Speaker 1: of glass where they like, we reached capocity, so and
- 12:51Speaker 1: that was all possible because we y'all, thank you must listeners.
- 12:57Speaker 1: It was like, honestly like the party of my dreams.
- 13:00Speaker 1: It was fun. It was fun time. And thank you
- 13:04Speaker 1: to Lahunta for surprising us with a little case. Was
- 13:08Speaker 1: so cute and they like saying happy anniversary to us
- 13:11Speaker 1: our Look Adversary. It was beautiful. It was beautiful, and
- 13:14Speaker 1: you know what, I hope we throw more parties. We
- 13:16Speaker 1: will throw more parties. We will throw more parties because
- 13:19Speaker 1: it was a lot of fun. We have the best listeners.
- 13:22Speaker 1: We do like what other podcasts have listeners such that
- 13:25Speaker 1: we're going to party that hard, you know what I mean.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Like it's true, like I'm so proud of our listeners
- 13:32Speaker 1: as a whole. Yes, um on that note, and we
- 13:39Speaker 1: also like the next The thing is though, like after
- 13:42Speaker 1: our Look Adversary, like we were not done like party.
- 13:46Speaker 1: We had we had to we had to listen for hours.
- 13:51Speaker 1: That was a hot mess just getting to just getting
- 13:54Speaker 1: in there. We were only there for a couple of hours.
- 13:56Speaker 1: We were literally we only saw eb Queen basically and
- 13:59Speaker 1: like a little bit of and that's about it. And
- 14:02Speaker 1: that was enough to get us on a good buzz
- 14:04Speaker 1: and shake our asses and give cute pictures that pick
- 14:08Speaker 1: um and yeah, so thank you to the folks that
- 14:11Speaker 1: brought us out to and we we were brought out
- 14:16Speaker 1: by the Observatory, Yes of Orange County. Yes, so thank you.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Thank you to the folks over there for having us. Yeah.
- 14:24Speaker 1: And then we had to dip early early drive from
- 14:28Speaker 1: Long Beach out to Boil Heights. Oh my god, we
- 14:32Speaker 1: were booking it. We were booking it. Like we stopped
- 14:34Speaker 1: at Jack in the Box real quick and you real
- 14:36Speaker 1: quick on the way over here. Um, and then changed
- 14:39Speaker 1: in the car and then we came and hosted such
- 14:42Speaker 1: a beautiful event for Yes for her second release on
- 14:47Speaker 1: It was really fun. Yes, it was a whole lot
- 14:49Speaker 1: of fun. Yeah, it was great. Um, so thank you
- 14:52Speaker 1: to everyone who came to that book release, to that
- 14:54Speaker 1: book release. He was amazing. It was a lot of fun.
- 14:58Speaker 1: It was packed. Also, I was a pact of it.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Lots of great questions. So we were, oh my god,
- 15:04Speaker 1: I'm tired just reliving it right, recapping it was a week.
- 15:08Speaker 1: It really was ch all week. It was a week,
- 15:10Speaker 1: but it was fun. It was so fun. We also
- 15:14Speaker 1: we were so proud of ourselves because we had everything
- 15:16Speaker 1: planned for the party, like before the party, you get me,
- 15:20Speaker 1: like riding around the data everything. And I will say
- 15:24Speaker 1: that that was all possible because of Maala. Mala did
- 15:26Speaker 1: a lot of the erin running, kicking up the BoA's
- 15:31Speaker 1: I love ship like that, getting the decorations, doing all
- 15:34Speaker 1: of that break painting. We got our nails done. Covers,
- 15:42Speaker 1: thank you, chat cover, thank you. Check her out. We
- 15:45Speaker 1: bought our logo really great decals, and we ordered our hats.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Our hats. We have merch now we have a lot
- 15:53Speaker 1: of merch. Well, we have summer summer, we have a
- 15:55Speaker 1: little bit. We're gonna be We're gonna be selling some more,
- 15:57Speaker 1: ordering some more in the near future. I've probably when
- 16:00Speaker 1: you're listening to this, we'll have already enough. Right. I
- 16:03Speaker 1: love our hats so much, it's so cute, they're so
- 16:05Speaker 1: much Okay, thanks, yes, okay, anyway, so thank you for
- 16:11Speaker 1: all the thanking and for rocking with us. It's been amazing. Also,
- 16:16Speaker 1: one more announcement of future announcement. We have an event
- 16:18Speaker 1: coming up. It's going to be November at Pittsur College.
- 16:24Speaker 1: We will be doing a Q and a panel with
- 16:27Speaker 1: their Latino student Union. They're hosting us, They're bringing their
- 16:31Speaker 1: bringing us out, so we're really excited. So that will
- 16:34Speaker 1: be Tuesday, November twenty eight at seven pm at Pittsor College.
- 16:38Speaker 1: That come out, we'll post a fire next week or
- 16:41Speaker 1: when you're listening to this. That's going to be a
- 16:43Speaker 1: good event. Yes, I'm excited. I'm excited. Claremont, Yes, Claremont
- 16:47Speaker 1: Colleges are good. Okay, So I think for about the
- 16:53Speaker 1: time to talk about the theme of the past and
- 16:57Speaker 1: then maybe take a song break. Yes, So we have
- 17:00Speaker 1: in wanting to do this for a while. So really
- 17:06Speaker 1: what we want to talk about today is revenge narratives,
- 17:10Speaker 1: survivor revenge narratives in music, in music, specifically in music
- 17:15Speaker 1: and our cop music. Cop music. Yeah. Um, it's just
- 17:19Speaker 1: like a really important theme, right, Like you see, like
- 17:22Speaker 1: we have been inundated by all these different men in
- 17:25Speaker 1: Hollywood that have been actually assaulting everybody basically like actresses, writers,
- 17:32Speaker 1: people like behind the scenes. We've already talked about that
- 17:35Speaker 1: in another capitulo. Um, and it's just like, Okay, well,
- 17:39Speaker 1: all this terrible ship happens to these women, to these
- 17:42Speaker 1: queer folks. Well and then what and then what? We
- 17:45Speaker 1: know that the justice the quote justice system like doesn't
- 17:49Speaker 1: serve anybody exactly, there's never any justice. So what happens?
- 17:53Speaker 1: What happens? What is justice? What is a consequence? You know?
- 17:57Speaker 1: When sexual assault is basically the easiest crime and the
- 18:01Speaker 1: easiest violence to get away went away with absolutely it's
- 18:04Speaker 1: it's virtually unpunished. And even with all of the you know,
- 18:08Speaker 1: the sexual assault coming out of Hollywood, I doubt if
- 18:11Speaker 1: we're going to see any criminal charges being pressing really
- 18:14Speaker 1: against any of these men. They're talking about investigations and
- 18:17Speaker 1: talking about looking into things, but I really highly highly
- 18:21Speaker 1: highly doubt that even one of them is going to
- 18:23Speaker 1: face prosecution. I mean aside from like cool loss of
- 18:27Speaker 1: like maybe representation from like an agent or maybe like
- 18:30Speaker 1: a production company like I also don't anticipate any any
- 18:33Speaker 1: further anything further, right, And we know these people have
- 18:36Speaker 1: their questions, they have sucking money a lot of you know,
- 18:38Speaker 1: so what what is the real consequence when, especially when
- 18:40Speaker 1: it's people men in power, they will be fine, exactly
- 18:44Speaker 1: be honest, so as always we like to sense her survivors.
- 18:48Speaker 1: So what we want to talk about is like, well,
- 18:50Speaker 1: what happens when survivors take revenge, take justice into their
- 18:53Speaker 1: own hands? Absolutely, And we know in the real world,
- 18:56Speaker 1: right like in our day, in our daily lives, that
- 18:58Speaker 1: there is a history of criminalizing survivors, right, this this
- 19:03Speaker 1: notion that women and survivors of sexual violence that we
- 19:06Speaker 1: really have no selves to defend. That's why you see
- 19:09Speaker 1: such high rates of domestic violence survivors and and sexual
- 19:14Speaker 1: trauma survivors incarcerated, so many women in prison, a majority
- 19:18Speaker 1: of women in prison, our survivors of sexual or interpersonal trauma,
- 19:22Speaker 1: so rapeists and pedophiles, it's difficult to get them to
- 19:26Speaker 1: face consequences. But when women try to defend ourselves in
- 19:30Speaker 1: real life, we get punished for it. Right, So we
- 19:33Speaker 1: have the sort of genre of music and a film
- 19:36Speaker 1: that I think is pretty small. I think that it
- 19:39Speaker 1: could be bigger. But you have these themes of women
- 19:42Speaker 1: taking revenge, revenge songs right against the men who hurt
- 19:46Speaker 1: them in however way they've been hurt. Right, So I
- 19:50Speaker 1: think we'll do a song break now, and and and
- 20:01Speaker 1: and and and and and and and and and and
- 20:11Speaker 1: and and and and and um um um um um
- 20:27Speaker 1: um um um um um um m m of it
- 20:36Speaker 1: and no ship Hello and We're back. That is such
- 20:44Speaker 1: a good song. It is such a good song, so good.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I mean, Rihanna can do no wrong, bad guy can
- 20:50Speaker 1: do no wrong, never good. I agree. And this song, Um,
- 20:57Speaker 1: I think it's such a powerful song because I think
- 20:59Speaker 1: it shows a lot of the complexities, right, responding to
- 21:03Speaker 1: something like a trauma, like a violence. And I think
- 21:05Speaker 1: that in the context of this song, given the lyrics
- 21:08Speaker 1: in the video, what's happening is Rihanna is singing about
- 21:12Speaker 1: what she did after a man sexually assaulted her, right,
- 21:15Speaker 1: and she shot him, she killed him. Yeah, And you know,
- 21:18Speaker 1: I think, like you said, like the complexities of when
- 21:22Speaker 1: trauma happens to you and it's like someone within your
- 21:24Speaker 1: community as well, you don't really know how to respond, like, well,
- 21:30Speaker 1: you want to get your revenge and at the same time,
- 21:31Speaker 1: like how she says, this could have been somebody's son, right,
- 21:34Speaker 1: so kind of like exactly, so like this guild, maybe
- 21:38Speaker 1: that is tied to seeking revenge, right, But at the
- 21:42Speaker 1: same time, having all this trauma and all this harm
- 21:44Speaker 1: caused to you. So then what do you do exactly exactly?
- 21:48Speaker 1: And I think it's really interesting because I think that
- 21:50Speaker 1: when there are images, um and stories of women responding
- 21:57Speaker 1: defending themselves using physical force, using violence, using weapons, that
- 22:02Speaker 1: we're not allowed self defense, right. Women are criminalized, we're
- 22:05Speaker 1: talked down on, we're told that we're overreacting if we
- 22:08Speaker 1: respond to violence with physical self defense. Right. However, there's
- 22:13Speaker 1: also this huge culture in the United States of this
- 22:16Speaker 1: idea of the standard ground law, and all these men
- 22:20Speaker 1: are so like so you know, like obsessed with this
- 22:24Speaker 1: notion that they should have guns to protect their property.
- 22:27Speaker 1: And everyone is in the right if you kill somebody
- 22:29Speaker 1: in defense of your property in your home. But if
- 22:32Speaker 1: when women, if we respond with physical force to protect
- 22:36Speaker 1: our bodies, it's illegal, it's criminal, right, right, So then women,
- 22:40Speaker 1: especially women of color, the ones that are criminalized. Right. So,
- 22:43Speaker 1: so what kind of justice is there? What justice is there?
- 22:46Speaker 1: And she talks about that in the song. She says, right, like,
- 22:49Speaker 1: this could have been somebody's son. Now I'm a criminal,
- 22:52Speaker 1: I shot him. But she's also a survivor. She's she
- 22:55Speaker 1: survived that situation, she survived that assault, right, But actions
- 23:00Speaker 1: will inevitably be seen as bad as criminal, criminal, goddamn,
- 23:06Speaker 1: god damn. And you know, I think it's interesting too
- 23:08Speaker 1: because I also think that there's always this notion that
- 23:11Speaker 1: survivors have this this intention of destroying a man's life
- 23:15Speaker 1: and ending in ending this person's life when survivors bring
- 23:18Speaker 1: up or disclose sexual violence, right, But it's sort of
- 23:22Speaker 1: like this song also kind of gets at that idea, right, Like,
- 23:27Speaker 1: you know, I needed to defend myself, but I didn't
- 23:29Speaker 1: mean to hurt him. And I hear that more often
- 23:32Speaker 1: than not from survivors. Survivors generally speaking in on the
- 23:36Speaker 1: day to day in real life, are not out here
- 23:38Speaker 1: vindictively saying I want to destroy this person, I want
- 23:42Speaker 1: to end this person, I want to ruin this person.
- 23:43Speaker 1: That's not my experience. What I hear is I want
- 23:46Speaker 1: them to do better. I just want them to not
- 23:48Speaker 1: hurt me, you know. So I think this also gets
- 23:51Speaker 1: at that really complex part of survivorhood that we don't
- 23:54Speaker 1: always talk about and get to see that survivors are
- 23:57Speaker 1: often very empathetic towards abused is and the people who
- 24:00Speaker 1: have harmed us. So absolutely, I mean, and you can
- 24:03Speaker 1: even like we when if you think about the bruck
- 24:06Speaker 1: Turner case right from Stanford, not that happened maybe a
- 24:10Speaker 1: year ago, right, or everything came to like maybe in
- 24:12Speaker 1: the past year at least it was covered by the
- 24:14Speaker 1: media in the past year, maybe two years um. And
- 24:17Speaker 1: that was like what the judge said, like gave him
- 24:18Speaker 1: a short sentence like, well, he has such a promising future,
- 24:21Speaker 1: why are we going to ruin it? Basically? Although who
- 24:24Speaker 1: gives a funk about the trauma that this woman went through,
- 24:26Speaker 1: this young college student went through, right, And I think
- 24:29Speaker 1: part of what's so powerful about this song is like
- 24:32Speaker 1: she killed him, the idea of his future is no
- 24:35Speaker 1: longer in question. We're not going to focus on his
- 24:37Speaker 1: fucking future. Gives a ship. It's not even in the
- 24:40Speaker 1: picture anymore. It's not not even in question. So for me,
- 24:44Speaker 1: that's what also makes this a really great like survivor
- 24:47Speaker 1: narrative and revenge narrative, is we're not centering his future,
- 24:51Speaker 1: which is what we always do in cases of violence
- 24:54Speaker 1: against women. Right, So we're gonna center her, We're gonna
- 24:58Speaker 1: send she's centering herself, right. So now what happens to
- 25:01Speaker 1: me exactly exactly now that she's taken her safety into
- 25:04Speaker 1: her own hands. So that's that escapism, right when you
- 25:08Speaker 1: don't get justice in real life, we're going to turn
- 25:10Speaker 1: it into art and we're gonna express it those desires
- 25:13Speaker 1: through music film. So that's our first song song. Yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 1: So I think for our next song, we're just gonna
- 25:20Speaker 1: play like a little bit of a portion of it. Um.
- 25:24Speaker 1: And this one is Bust Your Windows by Jasmine Sullivan
- 25:28Speaker 1: by Jazmine Sullivan. And this is a genre of like
- 25:31Speaker 1: revenge music that I love, which is all about destroying
- 25:34Speaker 1: his property, buck his ship up. There's a lot of
- 25:38Speaker 1: music about destroying homeboys car, destroying his shoes, destroying his
- 25:43Speaker 1: his you know, material possessions. So here it is Jasmine
- 25:47Speaker 1: Sullivan Bust your Windows and and and and and and
- 26:07Speaker 1: and and and um um um um um um um
- 26:27Speaker 1: um um um um um um of it and little ship. Hello.
- 26:40Speaker 1: So that is such a good song. That is such
- 26:42Speaker 1: a good song. Effing love that. Yeah, but that's great song.
- 26:45Speaker 1: So that is just like revenge from when you when
- 26:48Speaker 1: you catch your man cheating on you, Yep, what do
- 26:51Speaker 1: you do? You bust the windows to his car? Yep.
- 26:53Speaker 1: And again I think that this is so great because
- 26:56Speaker 1: I think in real life even like me, I love
- 26:59Speaker 1: even just the idea of like when a man cheats
- 27:02Speaker 1: on you, your partner cheats on you. I think, especially
- 27:05Speaker 1: when it happens more than once, when it becomes like
- 27:08Speaker 1: serial cheating, that's just so emotionally abusive, it really is.
- 27:12Speaker 1: And especially when you are having sex with that person
- 27:15Speaker 1: and now they're having sex with these other people and
- 27:17Speaker 1: you're not clued in, you know, I think that that's
- 27:20Speaker 1: really abusive. Um. So for me, it's like, I think
- 27:23Speaker 1: oftentimes men value their belongings more than they value the
- 27:27Speaker 1: women in their lives, and I think it's great to
- 27:29Speaker 1: flip that and say, your belongings don't mean ship. I'm
- 27:32Speaker 1: going to ruin them, and I hope that you feel devastated,
- 27:36Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, And she's just like, don't don't play
- 27:39Speaker 1: with my feelings. Why are you doing this right, etcetera, etcetera.
- 27:44Speaker 1: You're not going to get away with it. And I love,
- 27:47Speaker 1: like even just thinking about it. Key his car slashes tires,
- 27:52Speaker 1: you know. Of course, acting on those things is one thing,
- 27:55Speaker 1: and I'm not like encouraging anybody to go out and
- 27:58Speaker 1: destroy property and catch a chart all that. I don't
- 28:00Speaker 1: do that, but as far as escapism and thinking about it,
- 28:05Speaker 1: singing about it exactly, art about it. I think it's great. Yeah, no,
- 28:09Speaker 1: I agree with you. And I think that's something like
- 28:11Speaker 1: maybe we can relate to as women when we're dating,
- 28:14Speaker 1: right and something goes wrong. We like, we play these
- 28:16Speaker 1: songs for a reason. This is our escapism. This is
- 28:19Speaker 1: just like, well, let me imagine that I'm going to
- 28:22Speaker 1: suck your ship up as my revenge, right even though
- 28:25Speaker 1: I may not maybe I'm not going to actually I
- 28:28Speaker 1: may not actually do it, but let me let me
- 28:31Speaker 1: fantasize about it exactly. And there's like, um, so there's
- 28:34Speaker 1: this song right, but bus your windows at your car.
- 28:37Speaker 1: We were also debating about playing Carrie Underwood. We could
- 28:40Speaker 1: invert ourselves to do I Underwood. Yeah, now that's a
- 28:46Speaker 1: good one. She liked that. In that song, she's talking
- 28:48Speaker 1: about like how he's on this date right, and she
- 28:50Speaker 1: like knows everything that's going on. So before he cheats,
- 28:54Speaker 1: fucking before he even leaves the bar key is car,
- 28:58Speaker 1: break his window, take a Louisville slugger to both headlights.
- 29:03Speaker 1: In my dreams, I feel like I one day, one
- 29:06Speaker 1: day I hope to destroy a man's property. I just
- 29:08Speaker 1: want to know how it feels. You know, it just
- 29:10Speaker 1: seems like it's like a really great feeling, like a
- 29:13Speaker 1: great release. That would actually be a really fun like
- 29:17Speaker 1: if I were to create a theme park and we
- 29:19Speaker 1: would have rides and like simulations, you could like simulate
- 29:22Speaker 1: destroying your ex boyfriend's truck. That could be like its
- 29:25Speaker 1: own attraction. That really could be fun. That would be fun.
- 29:28Speaker 1: I can imagine that if, like when you're angry, like
- 29:32Speaker 1: it feels, it would feel really good to like hit someting,
- 29:35Speaker 1: like like you know what I mean, some class Obviously,
- 29:39Speaker 1: I don't me hit somebody. Don't ever do that? I mean,
- 29:41Speaker 1: like hit something thing a thing? Yeah, and then I
- 29:46Speaker 1: love also like, um, didn't didn't Lisa left Ie notoriously
- 29:51Speaker 1: like when her man cheated on her, like set all
- 29:53Speaker 1: of his shoes on fire in a bathtub and then
- 29:55Speaker 1: set his mention on fire. I think that happened that
- 29:59Speaker 1: I was fun Lisa left I from I think she did.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Did you know what I'm seeing? This happens in real life?
- 30:05Speaker 1: You know what I'm thinking about? Two? Do you remember
- 30:07Speaker 1: in that movie waiting to Exhale and at the classet?
- 30:11Speaker 1: That is the best scene when she scribed he sets
- 30:14Speaker 1: all his ship on fire. He is cheating with the
- 30:16Speaker 1: white woman. First of all, wow, and why would you
- 30:21Speaker 1: cheat on Angela Bassett? What I know? I know? A
- 30:24Speaker 1: second of all, where's your head? In the film, she
- 30:27Speaker 1: takes all his ship, all his clothes, from his closet,
- 30:30Speaker 1: from their closet, his nice walk, it's really nice walking closet.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Puts it in like his Porsche or some sports cars
- 30:37Speaker 1: that should ablaze. Beautiful scene. It's a great scene. Iconic
- 30:41Speaker 1: fucking scene. I love that scene. You guys have seen it?
- 30:46Speaker 1: Are you seen photos of it? Are you've seen the gift?
- 30:52Speaker 1: You see the gift. We're being tweeted at. Shout out
- 30:56Speaker 1: a real quick shout out to Elia Ernandez at Gobnon governor.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Now this is on Twitter on Twitter. I can't I
- 31:05Speaker 1: can't really make up her handle. But Elia Ernande, she
- 31:07Speaker 1: was just here at this pasto and she was like
- 31:09Speaker 1: waving at oh my god, and we're trying to figure
- 31:12Speaker 1: out why. But you know, it was a localmon. But
- 31:14Speaker 1: she just tweeted at us saying sorry for friend girly.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Hey mama, hey girl. If we were recording, we would
- 31:20Speaker 1: have said high to you. I know where we were
- 31:22Speaker 1: already on the air. We're in the middle of something
- 31:23Speaker 1: right now. So yeah, so that's an iconic scene, Angela Bassett,
- 31:28Speaker 1: I mean, these songs are iconic. There's also that movie,
- 31:31Speaker 1: Um there's a Grindhouse and freaking Rosario Dawson is in it.
- 31:37Speaker 1: That that stunt woman Zoe Zoe Bell who's Australian, and
- 31:43Speaker 1: a couple other actresses are in this film, right that
- 31:46Speaker 1: Quentin Tarantino made, and like at the end, it's really
- 31:48Speaker 1: great because there's this creepy guy who's like following them
- 31:51Speaker 1: and terrorizing them, and these girls are like working on
- 31:53Speaker 1: a movie and at the end they finally like get
- 31:57Speaker 1: the best of him and they kiss it up and
- 32:00Speaker 1: they beat him like with a metal pipe and they
- 32:03Speaker 1: kill him on the side of the road, and it's fabulous.
- 32:06Speaker 1: I started having I was shared with Mala like a
- 32:08Speaker 1: few months ago, like I think when I started maybe
- 32:10Speaker 1: around the time I started seeing my therapist and she
- 32:12Speaker 1: shared to me that she like does dream analysis, that
- 32:15Speaker 1: I started having these revenge dreams where men in my
- 32:19Speaker 1: like well not men in my life, but men in
- 32:21Speaker 1: my dreams that I had never seen before, at least
- 32:24Speaker 1: not consciously, or that I'm aware of they would like
- 32:26Speaker 1: be harassing me in my dreams, but instead of like
- 32:29Speaker 1: you know, maybe I just ignoring it or walking away,
- 32:32Speaker 1: I would actually fight back. So I was having these
- 32:36Speaker 1: revenge dreams where I would be like yelling, like loudly
- 32:40Speaker 1: yelling at these men saying like leave me alone, or
- 32:42Speaker 1: I would physically be like fighting back. Amazing, right, So
- 32:46Speaker 1: I started having like all these different dreams about like
- 32:49Speaker 1: you know, some fem revenge, fem revenge and giving them
- 32:52Speaker 1: what they deserve exactly, And I think that's so much
- 32:55Speaker 1: of it is, like I want to imagine what it
- 32:57Speaker 1: would really be like to give you what you deserve
- 32:59Speaker 1: for harming me and making me uncomfortable. As a self
- 33:02Speaker 1: defense instructor, I love that ship. I want a world
- 33:05Speaker 1: where we can fight back, We're empowered to fight back,
- 33:07Speaker 1: We're not going to be punished for it. I want
- 33:10Speaker 1: to be able to have music and movies and images
- 33:14Speaker 1: where I can feel that taking our power back, you know. Absolutely.
- 33:18Speaker 1: A few like months ago, someone that I like was
- 33:24Speaker 1: like appalled because somebody that the person, the man that's
- 33:27Speaker 1: actually assaulted me send me a friend request. And I
- 33:31Speaker 1: was just like sitting in my car on Facebook. I
- 33:34Speaker 1: see this request and I like fucking stopped me in
- 33:37Speaker 1: my tracks and I was like, what the funck? It
- 33:41Speaker 1: was terrible, It was terrible, and I had no idea
- 33:44Speaker 1: what to do. And of course, I mean obviously I
- 33:46Speaker 1: just deleted it and didn't really know what to do
- 33:48Speaker 1: with myself. But it was awful. So it's like again
- 33:51Speaker 1: like taking your power back, right, So what do you
- 33:53Speaker 1: do in those moments where it's like this person is
- 33:56Speaker 1: all the way in Peru, like I'm probably never going
- 33:59Speaker 1: to see them ever again, but here they are finding
- 34:01Speaker 1: maybe a social media wow, right, it's a social media
- 34:06Speaker 1: eliminates distant It really does. It really does. So in
- 34:09Speaker 1: moments like those, take care of yourself. Take care of yourself, yes,
- 34:12Speaker 1: and if you need to engage, like in that type
- 34:14Speaker 1: of escapism and you need to imagine what it would
- 34:17Speaker 1: be like to exact your revenge exactly like Riana. Just
- 34:21Speaker 1: listen to from Jasmine sul events and just some Beyonce. Yes,
- 34:25Speaker 1: let's do it. So we have one more song, well,
- 34:28Speaker 1: we have a few more song we have, but this
- 34:30Speaker 1: one we especially wanted to bring because it's a different
- 34:33Speaker 1: type of revenge and we also just saw et queen.
- 34:38Speaker 1: She is my queen. That she killed it. I was everything.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I was like, wait, this isn't The Evie Queen concert
- 34:46Speaker 1: was so like maybe twenty thirty minutes and I was
- 34:48Speaker 1: like God, I was like, hold on, she killed it too.
- 34:52Speaker 1: She killed it, and you know what I loved because
- 34:55Speaker 1: obviously she was a long beach. She knew her audience,
- 34:57Speaker 1: so she did like a ten second rendition of by Selena.
- 35:03Speaker 1: She did she because she knows, she knows her audience.
- 35:05Speaker 1: She even played Snoop Dog because she was an LBC.
- 35:08Speaker 1: She fucking knows. It was really fun and the whole
- 35:11Speaker 1: time she was all of the whole time consistently, it
- 35:17Speaker 1: was loved. You know, we live for that ship, Yeah,
- 35:19Speaker 1: we live for that. Yeah. So we wanted to bring
- 35:22Speaker 1: this song by her because, like we said, it's it's
- 35:25Speaker 1: a different form of revenge and it's called Lavida Sassy
- 35:28Speaker 1: by Evie Queen. I hope you enjoy it, m it
- 36:16Speaker 1: and ship. Yes, Queen. I love that song because basically
- 36:25Speaker 1: she's saying, like she finds out that her man is
- 36:28Speaker 1: like cheating on her with somebody else, but she's singing
- 36:31Speaker 1: to the girl and she's like novale. It's not thank
- 36:36Speaker 1: you for setting me free. I'm gonna go off with
- 36:39Speaker 1: this better man. I love it. So it's a different
- 36:44Speaker 1: type of revenge, right when when the man when he
- 36:49Speaker 1: stays with the other woman, Right, I hope you get
- 36:52Speaker 1: what you were looking for, sweetie Pie, honey bunch. Sometimes
- 36:57Speaker 1: that is the best revenge. She's not walking away from
- 37:00Speaker 1: the situation, walking away, walking away feeling better. The glow
- 37:04Speaker 1: up happens, your life turned around. I can speak from experience.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Finally walking away, finally, finally things ending and like wow,
- 37:13Speaker 1: you know, MoMA and I were talking about the other day,
- 37:15Speaker 1: like how was shit? However, the podcast has been looking amazing, right,
- 37:21Speaker 1: so many things have been great. Things have been happening.
- 37:23Speaker 1: So even though it's good perspective, right, even though some
- 37:26Speaker 1: things have been really difficult right in our own lives. Yeah,
- 37:30Speaker 1: as a unit, things have been great. Oh my god.
- 37:32Speaker 1: As a podcast, things are just going swimmingly. Yes, we
- 37:35Speaker 1: couldn't be happier now, we could not be happier. But
- 37:38Speaker 1: you know what, I think that that's something that you know,
- 37:40Speaker 1: I think I think for a lot of women, that's real.
- 37:44Speaker 1: That's real, right, Like personal life is like crazy and
- 37:48Speaker 1: fucked up and up and down and uncertain. But the
- 37:51Speaker 1: professional side of things or the passion side of things,
- 37:54Speaker 1: and the work side of things, we pour ourselves into
- 37:57Speaker 1: this other stuff or other outlets. Well it's kind of like, well,
- 38:00Speaker 1: you don't have this person that's like, why aren't you
- 38:02Speaker 1: spending time with me? Why are you so busy? Why
- 38:05Speaker 1: are you committing so much time to your friends? Why
- 38:07Speaker 1: you know, why don't you make space for me? Blah
- 38:10Speaker 1: blah blah. Well it's like, well, I'm working on my
- 38:12Speaker 1: personal project, right, I'm working on my work my brand. Sure,
- 38:18Speaker 1: I mean I'm investing in myself, yes, And it's I
- 38:21Speaker 1: think it takes a really secure partner to like not
- 38:25Speaker 1: mix up the two right, to understand, to be able
- 38:27Speaker 1: to separate it, to relinquish control. Yes, you have to
- 38:31Speaker 1: be able to relinquish there out there, my boot, my book.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Like today he was like he was like um, he
- 38:37Speaker 1: was like what time do you have to leave? And
- 38:38Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I have to go get ready,
- 38:40Speaker 1: like I have to go record. He was like, can't
- 38:42Speaker 1: you just show up? And I was like, no, one
- 38:43Speaker 1: cannot just show up? Are you kidding me? Show up?
- 38:49Speaker 1: And then he was like okay, okay, yeah, you're right,
- 38:51Speaker 1: You're right. I'm like, this is my job, and he's
- 38:53Speaker 1: just like, yeah, you're right. Recording days are They're very
- 38:56Speaker 1: important days. We take recording days very seriously. But oh
- 39:00Speaker 1: and there's also it reminds me. There's this meme that
- 39:03Speaker 1: I've seen, and it's like something about learning how to
- 39:08Speaker 1: take control of and redirect all of your like sexual energy,
- 39:12Speaker 1: your creative ship instead of into actual physical sex, which
- 39:18Speaker 1: kind of sucks. But however, however, I the second that
- 39:22Speaker 1: I saw that meme, I was like, wow, I never
- 39:24Speaker 1: thought of that before. I can really choose to direct
- 39:27Speaker 1: this energy wherever I want to. So I'm kind of
- 39:30Speaker 1: working on that. I'm kind of working on it works.
- 39:34Speaker 1: So yes, yes, Evie Queen as always giving us life,
- 39:39Speaker 1: giving us music right to accompany our lives. Yes, thank you,
- 39:44Speaker 1: Evie Queen. We have another of another song. We have
- 39:48Speaker 1: another song that it's also a different form of revenge love,
- 39:52Speaker 1: this form of even listen. I was like, I was
- 39:55Speaker 1: very young when the song came up, and my mom
- 39:57Speaker 1: would play the ship out of this song I love
- 40:00Speaker 1: a because she related, she knew, she knew, and me
- 40:03Speaker 1: I would sing along to it. So we're gonna play it.
- 40:06Speaker 1: It's an oldie but good day. Yeah, but I think
- 40:09Speaker 1: this is our last song. This is our last song.
- 40:11Speaker 1: So should we say our goodbye? Should we do with closings?
- 40:14Speaker 1: M m? Maybe we should play it and then and
- 40:17Speaker 1: then do it. I know we had the opposite plan. Yeah,
- 40:20Speaker 1: but I feel like we need to talk about the song.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Oh you're you're what I mean? I know we did
- 40:24Speaker 1: at that time. Okay, change the plan or back and
- 40:51Speaker 1: back of it, and that is an oldie guti, that
- 41:17Speaker 1: is the fucking jam, you know what. Yes, even as
- 41:21Speaker 1: a child like having no really real clue as to
- 41:24Speaker 1: what she's talking about, I remember sucking singing along Taian
- 41:28Speaker 1: and feeling it in my song. I knew that that
- 41:30Speaker 1: was my anthem. As a little girl, I was like,
- 41:33Speaker 1: give me some of that wealthy you know. And now
- 41:37Speaker 1: thinking about it, I'm like, oh, I know why my
- 41:38Speaker 1: mom was so into this song. It all makes sense.
- 41:41Speaker 1: That all makes sense in retrospect. Let me tell you
- 41:44Speaker 1: why I love this sucking song. Number one, um, men
- 41:48Speaker 1: still make more money than women. Our feminized labor is
- 41:51Speaker 1: still valued, completely undervalued, underpaid, but we're overworked. So Number one,
- 41:58Speaker 1: give your money to women. Give your money to wim men.
- 42:00Speaker 1: And then also like in relationships, the fem labor that
- 42:04Speaker 1: is taken on, especially if you are with a mask
- 42:06Speaker 1: presenting or a cist hetero man, the fem labor that
- 42:11Speaker 1: goes into being in a relationship, the emotional labor, right,
- 42:15Speaker 1: just even like having sex a lot, right me and
- 42:20Speaker 1: how that we're talking about this the other day, like
- 42:22Speaker 1: like do you have real well, like if you have
- 42:24Speaker 1: if you have sex with men, right, and think about that,
- 42:29Speaker 1: they are physically inside inside of your body, like like
- 42:33Speaker 1: how do like why why it's very invasive. It's very invasive.
- 42:37Speaker 1: We're very exposed. We're very exposed, very vulnerable. And another
- 42:41Speaker 1: cup people that we're going to talk about this in
- 42:42Speaker 1: detail and about health, especially health health for for women,
- 42:47Speaker 1: and especially like the cost of being it's so expensive,
- 42:52Speaker 1: Like when we really talk about the health related costs
- 42:56Speaker 1: of being a woman who has sex with men, you
- 42:59Speaker 1: know been so it's expensive and it takes a toll
- 43:02Speaker 1: on our physical body. I can't tell y'all even today,
- 43:04Speaker 1: Like back in August, I got in implants. I am,
- 43:07Speaker 1: I'm on birth control, and I've noticed like that my
- 43:11Speaker 1: menstrual periods are longer, right, I've been breaking out more
- 43:15Speaker 1: than usual, right so it's just like, okay, so I
- 43:18Speaker 1: have this, all of this. It is supposed to keep me,
- 43:21Speaker 1: like quote safe right from not getting pregnant and not
- 43:24Speaker 1: having a pregnancy right now that I don't want. However,
- 43:27Speaker 1: there's all these physical manifestations in my body, you know,
- 43:30Speaker 1: and one of these men needs nothing. Our birth control
- 43:34Speaker 1: options are all very invasive. Basis the implant too, it's
- 43:38Speaker 1: in my arm. And for those of you, and again
- 43:39Speaker 1: we'll do another cup a little bit, just since we're sharing.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Were sharing already. I haven't the birth control implant in
- 43:45Speaker 1: my arm, and getting it put in was easy enough.
- 43:48Speaker 1: But it's literally a little tiny metal rod that they
- 43:51Speaker 1: stick inside of your arm and like deep under there,
- 43:54Speaker 1: so it's good for three years. To remove it, they
- 43:58Speaker 1: have to perform a small surgery and they have to
- 44:00Speaker 1: open up your arm and get the thing out, you know.
- 44:02Speaker 1: And I'm sitting here thinking about this, and I'm like, wow,
- 44:05Speaker 1: just so that I can have sex with these fuck
- 44:07Speaker 1: as dudes, I have to have this fucking implant inside
- 44:10Speaker 1: my arm. What are the other alternatives? The I U
- 44:13Speaker 1: D which is inside of your uterus, you know, it's
- 44:16Speaker 1: also invasive and then men can't even do the bare
- 44:19Speaker 1: minimum of wearing a fucking condom. Are you sucking kidding?
- 44:22Speaker 1: It's exhausting. I'm furious anyway, So hit him up style right,
- 44:29Speaker 1: catch your man cheating, he's going back wild. It's in
- 44:32Speaker 1: your time cash. Go to Nam and Marcus and spend
- 44:36Speaker 1: all his money and click your home girls with you. Yes,
- 44:39Speaker 1: hit his wallet, hit his wallet. Um. There has been
- 44:42Speaker 1: a really popular tweet going around. Yes, I was going
- 44:46Speaker 1: to talk about it. Talk about you talk about it. Okay,
- 44:48Speaker 1: So there's this name about like, don't go through your like,
- 44:52Speaker 1: don't go through your boyfriend's text messages. Instead, go to
- 44:55Speaker 1: his cash app and send yourself some money. Has ven
- 44:57Speaker 1: mo and send yourself some money. That's femravent of economic redistribution,
- 45:02Speaker 1: that is that is equity, financial equity. Yes, and I'm
- 45:05Speaker 1: here for it. I don't feel bad about it. Give
- 45:07Speaker 1: me your fucking wallet. No. I told my brew that
- 45:09Speaker 1: I'm going to start sending him a monthly girlfriend tax good. Yes,
- 45:14Speaker 1: and then well I'm going to report him. And he
- 45:16Speaker 1: was just like, I'm going to deny it. And I'm like, well,
- 45:17Speaker 1: then you're gonna see what's gonna happen. You're not paying tax,
- 45:21Speaker 1: catch the consequences. You don't get this, ass, I love,
- 45:27Speaker 1: That's what I told him. I was like, it's going
- 45:28Speaker 1: to be the booty tag. It's the booty tax. That's revolutionary, right,
- 45:32Speaker 1: charge here, charge your boyfriend. But I cannot take full
- 45:35Speaker 1: credit because I actually got this idea from a follower
- 45:39Speaker 1: on Instagram or our homegirl. We've talked about her before.
- 45:42Speaker 1: R Yes, yes, yes, she posted that she sent her
- 45:46Speaker 1: her her boyfriend, her the father of her child, actually
- 45:49Speaker 1: a girlfriend tax. And he denied it and she said
- 45:54Speaker 1: she told me to shut so. I did not get
- 45:57Speaker 1: this idea. However, I am implementing it into my reallyation ship.
- 46:00Speaker 1: This needs to become a movement. Yes, the booty tag,
- 46:03Speaker 1: the booty tag. We all friend tax, I'm all here
- 46:06Speaker 1: for it. Listen, just the cost of the makeup alone,
- 46:10Speaker 1: good lord, let's not even talk about the nails. Let's
- 46:14Speaker 1: not even talk about getting a new outfit to go
- 46:16Speaker 1: out in. Yep. No, no, no, no, no, no no,
- 46:19Speaker 1: that's justified. No. And I tell my boot because I
- 46:21Speaker 1: run out of makeup pipes at his house, you know that,
- 46:23Speaker 1: can you pick them up? And he was like, well,
- 46:24Speaker 1: I don't know which ones do you like, so you
- 46:25Speaker 1: should just buy them. And I was like, the least
- 46:27Speaker 1: you can do is buy me these makeupipes to keep
- 46:30Speaker 1: at your place. Exactly, buy me the damn white bees.
- 46:32Speaker 1: Just buy them. Figure it out. God, I'm so frustrated. Right,
- 46:40Speaker 1: I was really great. But yes, I still think this
- 46:43Speaker 1: girlfriend tax is a new thing. I agree, you know already,
- 46:47Speaker 1: like men, they like to waste our time, they like
- 46:50Speaker 1: to waste our money, they like to waste our youth.
- 46:53Speaker 1: We don't get paid enough. We don't get paid enough.
- 46:55Speaker 1: You know, we don't get paid at all. We don't
- 46:58Speaker 1: get paid at all. So as revenge, yeah, I think
- 47:01Speaker 1: it's totally just five. Take his money, Padrome wallets hidden
- 47:06Speaker 1: where it really hurts, his gadgets, his toys, his car,
- 47:10Speaker 1: and his wallet. Yes, those are the places. Yes, I
- 47:14Speaker 1: love it. So that's our that'd go forth and prosper.
- 47:19Speaker 1: So um, we're to finish out. In closing, we wanted
- 47:24Speaker 1: to share with y'all a little story. So we are
- 47:28Speaker 1: back on Apple podcasts. Lord, yes, oh my god, speaking
- 47:31Speaker 1: of revenge, speaking of goddamn. Okay, So, as you know,
- 47:37Speaker 1: months ago, we were taking off Apple podcast for whatever reason,
- 47:40Speaker 1: and the thing is Apple doesn't really tell you why
- 47:42Speaker 1: they could take it down, and they send you a
- 47:44Speaker 1: list it could be one of these, and we looked
- 47:45Speaker 1: at them. We're like, well, it could really be any
- 47:47Speaker 1: of these. Right of them were pretty all of them.
- 47:49Speaker 1: It's pretty vague, it's pretty big. One of them is
- 47:52Speaker 1: like if your your image isn't the right size, and
- 47:55Speaker 1: we knew that ours wasn't, so we were like, okay,
- 47:57Speaker 1: maybe it was that there are some odd details the
- 48:00Speaker 1: very specific. So anyway, I have been working on this
- 48:05Speaker 1: probably since July has been at the helm of this battle. Yes,
- 48:08Speaker 1: I have been fighting with Apples literally, so July, we
- 48:13Speaker 1: resubmit and when you when you submit your your podcast
- 48:17Speaker 1: to Apple, they send you like thank you for your submission.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Your under review right would go under review rejected. So
- 48:22Speaker 1: I'm like okay. Then we were like, well we need
- 48:24Speaker 1: a new feed. So we're like, okay, well we're gonna
- 48:26Speaker 1: get an AudioBoom anyway, so we use that again. Nada.
- 48:29Speaker 1: So and I don't even get a response at this point,
- 48:31Speaker 1: not even like thank you, but no thank you. Right,
- 48:35Speaker 1: So finally I emailed them and I'm like, hey, like
- 48:38Speaker 1: we have submitted. I haven't even received like that it's
- 48:41Speaker 1: under review. I just want to check, like, am I
- 48:43Speaker 1: doing something wrong? So they email me back and they're like, well,
- 48:46Speaker 1: after reviewing your feed, like there's a lot of inappropriate language,
- 48:51Speaker 1: which is like bitch. Where So me and Lula are
- 48:54Speaker 1: very upset, but me, you know, am like, Okay, well
- 48:57Speaker 1: we need to get back on Apple. So we're gonna like, unfortunately,
- 48:59Speaker 1: we're gonna have to handle this tactfully, even though I
- 49:01Speaker 1: want to go off on them. So we go and
- 49:04Speaker 1: we edit out anything that says boot positive, anything that's
- 49:07Speaker 1: sex positive, anything that says home which is not even
- 49:11Speaker 1: not even that money like no, and that's not even that.
- 49:15Speaker 1: And then to top it off, this is a rule.
- 49:18Speaker 1: You cannot have anything that would be considered offensive to
- 49:22Speaker 1: a child. They literally said that in an email offensive
- 49:26Speaker 1: to a small child, a small child you would not
- 49:28Speaker 1: want a small child to hear. And I said, first
- 49:30Speaker 1: of all, why would a child be listening to a
- 49:32Speaker 1: podest small child? First of all, that's what I really
- 49:38Speaker 1: want to know. They literally said that ship to me,
- 49:41Speaker 1: and I was infuriated, so of course, leaving me. I
- 49:44Speaker 1: had to pull out all the receipts and I did
- 49:46Speaker 1: all of my research, and let me tell you all
- 49:48Speaker 1: of the inappropriate ship that is on Apple podcast. Okay,
- 49:53Speaker 1: there's this like anti splat shaming podcast by women, so
- 49:56Speaker 1: shout out to them. However, example example A. They're also
- 50:00Speaker 1: white women. Their podcast is called Guys We Fucked? What
- 50:07Speaker 1: is that? Is that? Is that appropriate for a small shot?
- 50:09Speaker 1: I didn't think that that is appropriate for us. I
- 50:11Speaker 1: don't see them being taken off podcast. And you know
- 50:14Speaker 1: those men and so fucking Charlemagne has his show Brilliant Idiots.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Well idiots is offensive to me? Is it not right?
- 50:20Speaker 1: Can it not be offensive? We saw another podcast that
- 50:24Speaker 1: shout out to you guys who followed us recently, but
- 50:26Speaker 1: I think you're called like the bitch face podcast on Apple.
- 50:30Speaker 1: So we're being told that we can't have like bullshit
- 50:33Speaker 1: in the title or we can't self censor, but then
- 50:35Speaker 1: all these other ones come up. So what we did
- 50:38Speaker 1: was we took out everything that said like we already
- 50:41Speaker 1: said like positive ho and then we go and we're
- 50:44Speaker 1: like you know what, lesmami submit and bullshit is the problem.
- 50:47Speaker 1: So what we do, like any person that sees all
- 50:50Speaker 1: these examples, we put the little asterix right that was
- 50:55Speaker 1: not enough. So even though we put the asterix, I
- 50:58Speaker 1: resubmitted and I was in contact with them and they said,
- 51:01Speaker 1: we still see it. Here's a screenshot, here's it highlighted,
- 51:04Speaker 1: and what was it? Las, mommy submitth and bullshit, even
- 51:07Speaker 1: with the asterisk bull So we're like, you know what,
- 51:11Speaker 1: We're gonna swallow this one. We're gonna just deal with it.
- 51:15Speaker 1: We fucking take out anything that says bullshit, mommy submit
- 51:18Speaker 1: and bullshit in our in any of our descriptions and
- 51:21Speaker 1: our subtitle whatever. We take it out. Finally they're like, okay,
- 51:26Speaker 1: your podcast has been reapproved. Please allow twenty four hours
- 51:30Speaker 1: for it to be to appear in the iTunes store. Okay.
- 51:34Speaker 1: It was twenty four hours and nothing, and a few
- 51:37Speaker 1: days later nothing. They really did not want to put
- 51:40Speaker 1: us in. Two weeks passed by and still nothing. So
- 51:45Speaker 1: finally I emailed them a millionth time and I'm like, hey,
- 51:48Speaker 1: you said that it was reapproved. It's been almost two weeks.
- 51:52Speaker 1: What what is going on? Right? Right? And very nicely,
- 51:55Speaker 1: because the thing is when you work with them, it's
- 51:56Speaker 1: not the same person that replies so very nicely. This
- 51:59Speaker 1: person eyes and it's like, oh, I'm so sorry, I'm
- 52:02Speaker 1: refreshing it manually right now, please allow another twenty four hours. Finally,
- 52:07Speaker 1: three hours later, it was finally back on Apple podcast
- 52:11Speaker 1: victory when we tell you we had to fight, like
- 52:14Speaker 1: literally we did the most to get back on Apple
- 52:19Speaker 1: on Yes, of course I really did. And I did
- 52:23Speaker 1: it like really specifically for our locomotives because a lot
- 52:26Speaker 1: of you, even on on just on random posts, you
- 52:30Speaker 1: all would comment, when are you going to be back
- 52:32Speaker 1: on Apple? How are you on Apple? I can't find you?
- 52:34Speaker 1: So I was like, all right, this is obviously we
- 52:37Speaker 1: know that Apple is like a big platform. We're false
- 52:39Speaker 1: listened to their part. It's where I listened to my
- 52:41Speaker 1: podcast too, So I totally get it. We're back on
- 52:44Speaker 1: Thank you fucking goddesses. Yeah. So, and we even thought
- 52:50Speaker 1: about like Apple censoring us? Are we going to have
- 52:54Speaker 1: to do an expose day on Apple? Is this from phobia?
- 52:57Speaker 1: Is this racism? We were wondering. We were like, is
- 53:00Speaker 1: is them phobia? Like? Is this like because we talked
- 53:03Speaker 1: about sexual assault and rape? And that was also a question.
- 53:05Speaker 1: I was like, is this because we talk about sexual
- 53:07Speaker 1: assault and rape? And I I sent them screenshots of
- 53:11Speaker 1: podcasts to talk about sexual assault and rape. So it
- 53:13Speaker 1: just didn't make any sense, right. It seems that they
- 53:16Speaker 1: were super strict with us and really not strict with
- 53:20Speaker 1: many others, and it doesn't make a lot of it
- 53:22Speaker 1: doesn't make sense. We don't get it. Even Mom and
- 53:24Speaker 1: I would even like, do any of our ex's work
- 53:26Speaker 1: at Apple, Like, we weren't really trying to rack our brains,
- 53:29Speaker 1: like did I sleep with anyone who was Apple? Now
- 53:32Speaker 1: said Apple? Like? It felt so personal, like who does
- 53:37Speaker 1: not want us on Apple Pie? It was awful. I
- 53:39Speaker 1: hope there were selling Apple after this episode. If anyone
- 53:43Speaker 1: from Apple is listening right now, that was some tripe ship.
- 53:45Speaker 1: I'm sorry it was. It was a small child, a
- 53:50Speaker 1: small child. We should be able to We should not
- 53:52Speaker 1: have had to edit any of that stuff out. I
- 53:54Speaker 1: completely agree any of the cussing. And it was not
- 53:57Speaker 1: even bad like compared to other podcasts. No, no, no,
- 54:03Speaker 1: but anyway, anyway back, We're happy to be back on Apple.
- 54:07Speaker 1: It took forever, but it was well, No, it was
- 54:09Speaker 1: not worth the way, but but it was worth They're
- 54:12Speaker 1: doing it for our listeners that really wanted us back
- 54:15Speaker 1: to listen, like that is their primary place of listening.
- 54:17Speaker 1: So shout out to y'all. We did the work. We
- 54:21Speaker 1: do all this for y'all because we love you. We
- 54:23Speaker 1: love y'all, um, and so that's it. Stay connected with
- 54:28Speaker 1: us via um, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, hash radio, hashtag wrong
- 54:36Speaker 1: or our hashtag you know the hashtag, you know all
- 54:40Speaker 1: of them. Let us know what you think. Have you?
- 54:43Speaker 1: Have you ever taken revenge on an ex boo on
- 54:46Speaker 1: a former partner? Revenge story? Let us know. We'll do
- 54:50Speaker 1: a little text post to y'all revenge can Let us know.
- 54:53Speaker 1: I'm excited. I'm sure there's some good ones out there.
- 54:56Speaker 1: I'm sure I have never I've never thought about it,
- 54:59Speaker 1: but I'm thinking, like, what would I have done? I
- 55:01Speaker 1: think that my best revenge has just been walking away
